Hallo! Tis I, hit user .mogspawner welcoming you to my fanblog!

I mostly plan to repost/post Minecraft content related to S.O.S Smp and smaller, more indie MCYT series I think you should check out, and why !

The plan is to use a platform to show off content creators who I think dont get a lot of attention and who should.

I am an adult! I'm also in a relationship and an unnamed content creator myself. I identify as gender-fluid to protect my identity both irl and online so any pronouns go.

About Me.

I am your average generic, EVOSmp, YHS, Aphmau, Yogscast raised individual. When it comes to Minecraft servers I am extremely niche, I like pretty much all forms of Minecraft and will give any series a shot. However, I am not very likely to ever join large fandoms I wasn't originally in to start with.

I was into Hermitcraft roughly around season 3-4, starting with Xisuma/Mumbo perspective. My love for the content creators there (Including Bdubs) started in my youth and I'm very proud to have been supported and loved in this community for so long.

The life-series kind of falls in place there too but the biggest thing that was the start of my re-hyperfixation was EmpiresSmp and the introduction of Mythicalsausage. I have been a long since viewer of Lizzie & Joel from their old days on Minecraft and I continue to watch them to this day!

There are also SMP's like Deceit which I will go into in other blogs! So keep an eye out for things you will thank me for!

For me, saying I kin so and so is basically affiliating myself with them comfortably. Be it social or just a: "Oh my god that's so me." Other time's its a delulu moment where I genuinely think I am that person due to specific trauma which I wont disclose. I'm not one of those people who will say DNI if doubles because at the end of the day, we are chaos incarnate! Take these as the characters in stories, not the actual people please. These only pertain to MCYT related things!

blackrock 10 year retrospective

so! it’s been. ten years since the blackrock chronicle started. let’s talk about that

i got minecraft in august 2012, right around the 1.3 update, after a camp friend showed it to me. like any other minecraft-playing 12 year old in 2012, i immediately took to the internet and discovered minecraft videos and parodies. one of these was Screw The Nether, the singer of which one of my friends identified as martyn. i watched martyn’s tekkit series (rip) and didn’t recognize one of the names on his waypoints: rythian. naturally, i looked up rythian on youtube, and found this little series called The Tekkit Adventure.

the rest is kind of history.

this series has meant so much to me over the last ten years. from making real life friends because i was reading fanfic and they asked what i was reading to desperately trying to explain the series to friends in 7th grade art to one of my friends making me a charm bracelet with blackrock themed charms for the holidays to the tumblr explanation of the finale to all the different yog servers ive been in and now being a fandom boomer in modern day mcyt spaces. i still cry watching the final episode of season 2. i still only really know the lyrics to zoey’s sk8rboi parody and not the original. frankly, im a lesbian because of this series. i had a MASSIVE crush on zoey as a kid and barely even knew it, and as an adult, im just sitting here like “ah.” she was some of the first lesbian rep i’d seen Basically Ever and i cannot thank her enough for that.

to celebrate, i dug through all my old sketchbooks and notepads to bring you all the blackrock/yogscast fanart i could find from the last ten years. i’m sure there’s PLENTY that’s missing. it’s all under the cut, chronologically listed. cheers, blackrock fandom. we’re still kickin’.

Oh my god og yogscast. The good ol days before everything went downhill at a rapid fire pace 😂 i had been wondering why your writing gave me like, OG minecraft fanfic vibes and everything makes sense now!!!

I never watched SOL all the way through [and probably never will now] but man, all their modded play throughs [FLUX BUDDIES!!!] inspired my writing SO much - my novel was originally, a veeeeeeery long time ago, a flux buddies/yoglabs fanfic

AHHHHHHH YESSS!!!! <3 Well, no one will watch SoI all the way through to be honest because they're never gonna finish it rip </3 But back then I remember the minecraft fics, especially Yogscast/SOI MC fics, treated the MC world like it was- well, a world rather than a game, just a bunch of people living on this planet that just happens to be infested with mobs (and some of these mobs were SENTIENT Mr. Astley my beloved </3). There were no mentions of inventory or health bars or respawn mechanics, everything was just "hey it's real life, BUT with this lore" and that has stuck with me over the last ten years and so yeah <3 I started watching them somewhere between episode 10 & 20 of SoI season 1 and tbh I still love them despite everything that's happened (with a few obvious exceptions, some of them can go to hell <3), but god yeah there's nothing quite like the classic yogs and their modded series. YOGLABS MY BELOVED <3 I mourn for yoglabs every day, it was a GOLD mine.

Like they always had a new story for every series they had and even if they weren't full on RPs like SoI it was always SO much fun, so I would say that has probably really affected how I handle MC worlds <3 I write around the MC world as if it's just that- a world, a story, a setting rather than a game they're playing. And it so far has worked out nicely for me, I think <3

Favorite relationship: uh i’ll be honest i don’t have a favorite dynamic of his rn. they’re all roughly equal in my mind. would love to put him in the same room as grian for longer than just a base swap and shake them a little bit. also obviously the dynamic i have wholesale invented between him and sarc Owns, but that’s because i made it up for myself

Favorite headcanon: @autisticlalna‘s alpha-z au, baybee! i really love the added layer of depth that comes with the implications of “zed is a clone of The Original Original Lalna That Worked At Yoglabs” and i think it adds a fun addition to his sciencey thing. it’s just really unique and also it means he can be little a sinister. as a treat

Idea for a story: uhhhhhh idk what if zedaph invented a new weapon called a gun i’d like to write a sequel to stormwatching the sandbox someday! of course, that relies on simplysarc uploading enough for me to squeeze more lore out of him, but. yeah

First impression: oh yooo there’s a yog in this grian series? i didn’t know grian knew any yogscast members! i don’t know much about martyn but i’m excited to see where this goes!

Impression now: i rattle him gently and his one mcc coin falls out of his pocket. every time i watch his teams in mcc they do absolutely awfully and the one time i didn’t watch his team, he won. i’m very sorry martyn. also his lore is alright i guess

Favorite moment: i honestly think his double life series through cleo is hilarious in every possible way and it kinda owns

Unpopular opinion: ...yeah i’m still not a fan of the watchers lol. i tend to justify it with “this is some kind of entity pretending to be the watchers” but i just do not vibe with watcher lore. i feel bad because i know his lore isn’t intentionally the exact same as the fanon watchers i have disliked for so long, but it’s way too close coincidentally for me to be comfortable with it

Favorite relationship: just like with 3rd life ren. its renchanting duo. how could it ever be anything else. however also like i’ve mentioned in previous asks i would go absolutely insane over the thematic implications of a true impulse-martyn day one alliance in a traffic game, you would never get me to shut up

Favorite headcanon: anything bridging third life and yogscast i am SUPER down for. i think @strifesolution is the person i’m thinking of who likes drawing explicit parallels between the sacrifice at black heart altar and whatever the hell parvis and strife are doing in blood and chaos? and i think that OWNS.

Is the Dream SMP the first thing MCYT (minecraft youtuber) that you have gotten into? If not, what are other MCYTs you enjoy, or used to?

Oh ! That’s a good question. Dream SMP is NOT the first MCYT content I’ve been into ! I can say 100% the first MCYTs I EVER watched was The Yogscast, back when I was like 10 and didn’t even own the game yet- Simon and Lewis were my first introduction, and biggest impact when it came to Minecraft, their original Survival Series ‘Shadow of Israphel’ still one of my favorite things to date. I’m sad that the series wasn’t able to be completed, though. There were also a lot of other creators along the way that I can still fondly recall too- Slyfoxhound ( Miss you, Homies Power Level Friday- ), Tobuscus, Chimneyswift, Stampylonghead, Captainsparklez- The list goes on ! There was also a smaller content creator that I can’t seem to find again that I remember watching a lot of too- His name was something like “Swoopbat” “Swoops” “Bats” - Something around those lines, but sadly all I get is actual minecraft bats, terra swoop force, and so on. When looking through my old subscribe list I can’t seem to spot anything familiar, so if the name was changed or if he deleted at somepoint, I’ve no clue.

It Was 2013, So I Was About 8-ish?, And My Older Brother Was 13! He Loved Watching Videos And Playing Games, And His Favourite Game At The Time Was 'Minecraft'. So We Would Watch A Few Minecraft YouTubers, Especially 'Yogscast', Since They Were Trendy Around Then! But Then They Changed Up The Game A Bit And Played A Different Game On Their Channel, Which Ended Up Being 'Little Inferno'! And I Fucking Loved That Game, And I Still Do! So I Wanted To See Other People Play It To See What Their Reactions Were Like!

That's The Moment When We Came Across Thy' Mr.Jacksepticeye! I Loved All The Impressions He Gave Each Character And The Way He Did His Intros With That Game! The Audience of My Channel

Okay, holy hell....

I wrote a freggin’ long history and now that I’m lookin’ through it... it’s a mess.

I’m going to TL;DR this who want the point but if you’re seriously concerned about this and want to understand the history then I recommend reading but understand this post is a mess of explanation but it’s worth the read IMO if you are interested in this history of my MC content and who it’s intended for.

TL;DR: My heavy story content isn’t aimed at kids/younger audience, if that was not evident from S4 alone then there is plenty of evidence from BEFORE and during Diaries days to support this. The heavy MCD implications also show I’m writing for that older audience who grew up with me. I’ve retained a lot of my audience from those days and know that young adults watch my stuff (hence a small reason for my lack of growth due to not conforming to kids content, you’ll see other MC YTers who convert to Roblox taking off in comparison) Some of my content can be found on the YT kids app and if you are a parent/guardian concerned about the heavy material I recommend using the YT kids app as it censors those seasons/episodes. It’s not 100% perfect but the kids who do watch me only know me for the content listed on the YT kids app. Most parents who let their kids have free roam of base YT are already aware of the lack of censorship from all sorts of YTers and have expressed they are aware of the material in my content and allow their kids to watch under their supervision and guidance. Who/What people watch on YT is up to them to decide. I rate my vids in the self rate system to be aimed at the demographic I’m writing for.

OKAY THAT’S NOT TL;DR, BUT CLOSE ENOUGH. The rest goes into detail and is what I originally wrote if you want to understand my prospective. AGAIN IT’S EVERYWHERE.

Alright so I’m in the addressing mood, but let’s start this train with one thing at a time. Today I want to clear up a misconception that a lot of people tend to have about my channel.

“Aphmau has a kid audience.”

To some extent, this IS true. These days people naturally associate “Minecraft” with kid friendly content. Especially with YouTubes crack down on what is advertised to kids via search. (Which as a parent: thank you YouTube.)

To another extent, this IS false.

In the early pioneer days of MC a whole ton of adults were playing the game which promoted the popularity of it. These were also the days YouTube didn’t have heavy censorship so everything was free game. There were adults cursing and talking about sex during gameplay, having tiddies in the thumbnail, to adults playing MC drunk. Again totally the early days of both YT and MC.

During this time a lot of the MC audience was mixed, both young and older. (I was in the older crowd; was watching Shadow of Israphel by the Yogscast at the time before my channel started) Eventually time passed and it was obvious that the game by itself appealed more to the younger demographic and it kept that audience. [I’ll get back to this point later].

Around the time I entered the MC scene it was the untamed wild west. Hell, I remember doing a Cops and Robbers video with Adam about being high the whole time. Around that time I was writing Diaries which had a lot of adult themes, war, topics, violence, death, [babe house, tho that’s not bad], sexual implications, blood, etc. etc. I also had side series going on that were more light hearted [Pixelmon, Mod Mod World, etc.] I also played games such as Saints Row, Hunie Pop, Dead Space, etc.

Again all this was in the untamed wild west of the internet.

Fast forward to today, all of those youngins who consumed that content have now grown up. They are either finishing up High School or already in College or they have always been adults and are just older (and by that I mean they’re even more cooler now) Surprisingly a LOT of them have been with me from that long ago... and holy crap you guys... thank you for being with me for that long <3

Fast forward to today again, you’ll see MC and YT have been censored heavily.

If you want to be a successful MC YouTuber these days - You gotta make content aimed at kids to get on that YT kids app - and just let me say there’s nothing wrong with that at all! I’m all for peeps makin’ their content the way they want to for the audience they want to consume it. (always disliked when creators would belittle others for the kind of content they make)

Let me say this: Diaries and MyStreet [plus a few other series] have always had heavy adult themes in them. I have been watching my audience grow from the start and know who I am writing for since a lot of peeps who are watching the more intense series have aged with me.

“But you have kids who consume your content!”

Yes, there are children who consume my content because it is on the Minecraft platform. You will also notice the most vocal peeps in the YT comment section/twitter/insta/etc. tend to be youngin’s who will shame you for liking a certain ship, hate you for your opinions, etc. [they are NOT ALL like that] Understand that these peeps (while I love and appreciate their support, wish they read my PSA’s and were a bit more understanding sometimes) are often in the minority of those who consume the more intense storylines/game play. Of course there are exceptions. Creators after YEARS of experience, data, and analytics will know who watches what content based on statistics and feedback. Some of our decisions are based on the analytics we receive and what people show they want in content by watching it.

Now, where are these “children who are watching my content” consuming it from? The YouTube Kids App. (GOD THIS ISN’T A PLUG BUT IT’S GONNA SOUND LIKE ONE BECAUSE I GET INTO PARENT THINGS, ALSO THIS IS RELEVANT TO WHO CONSUMES MY CONTENT SO IF YOU CARE ABOUT THIS TOPIC PLEASE BEAR WITH ME)

As a parent, I use the YouTube kids app. The YouTube kids app has a LOT of options to make sure kids under the age of 13 are consuming the content their parents want them to watch. (But the age you can set goes all the way to like 20+ for some reason) There are two options:

1.) [Younger] More restricted, meant for preschool kids and elementary school kids.

2.) [Older] For parents who think their kids are old enough to be less restricted and it even warns parents that there may be suggestive content, violence, etc. In this option.

There are a lot of kids consuming the more tamed versions of my content which they know me for. There are some children I meet at fan meets that don’t even know that certain episodes of Diaries or MS Season 4, 5, or 6 exist or that I even do RP’s. (They seem to like my content for Snipper Clips, Love Balls, MyCraft, etc.) I’m perfectly fine with the app gating off my mature content, rightfully so since it’s not meant for that demographic. With a lot of that being said I cannot control what is and is not seen on that app, but know that a lot of my mature content is off of it.

That being said, my writing is aimed at teens, young adults, and adults.

The problem is people see MC as being “ONLY FOR KIDS! THIS IS A KIDS SHOW IF IT’S IN MINECRAFT!” which to me... as someone who has been using the platform since the Wild West days... to pretty much tell similar and just as harsh stories since then... is pretty much the equivalent of saying: “IF IT’S A DRAWN LIKE A CARTOON IT MUST BE FOR KIDS!” Or “VIDEO GAMES ARE MEANT FOR KIDS” (which are very ignorant statements because cartoons and games can be for adults)

Again the problem lies in the fact that I’m still using MC as a platform to tell stories. And really, that’s not a problem since I know where my content is being consumed, I know who consumes it, and I know who I am writing for.

The kids app exists for parents who are active in their child’s lives and make sure my content is what their kids want to consume and I use that as a barrier to entry for younger kids who don’t get the themes in my mature content.

The people who have grown up with me and know the adult themes in my story often times don’t want to admit to their friends that they watch Minecraft because of the stigma that comes with that statement and often times won’t participate in the community. Btw, side note: For those that are vocal I sincerely appreciate you who have been around forever and help grow the community.

[ADDITIONAL UNIMPORTANT NOTE: We actually did a test run to see if our audience was younger than we thought. I tried doing a ROBLOX RP to see if maybe our demographic was there instead of MC. (...Also I wanted to make something for our kids to watch.) It turned out the feedback from the audience was so overwhelmingly negative on it because peeps didn’t want to see the channel turn into a “kids channel” with kid directed content]

But again... the problem is the stigma that comes with using MC as a storytelling device. A lot of YTers bowed out of MC because they felt they no longer had the creative freedom they once had before censorship happened. Which if I had been completely kid friendly from the beginning I could see where the problem is, however this is not the case and adult themes (be they subtle or not) have always been there.

My content is for those who want to consume it on the main YT site/app. Anyone under the age of 13 SHOULD be using the YT kids app, but that is in their parents hands to decide what is appropriate for their kids. I advise fellow parents when they ask me in person to make sure my content is for their kid(s) and to have open discussions about the topics at hand if they decide to allow their kids to consume my content. I understand parents cannot be there 24/7 but they should not entrust media to be the core source of conversation for a mind that’s still growing and needs a parent/guardians guidance.

I will continue to use MC as a platform and the YT self rating system to make sure my content gets pushed to the right outlets, I cannot monitor who sees my content. Eventually I’d like to move to another story telling platform OR modify MC so it doesn’t look like MC anymore but rather something that looks similar to the unity engine. (We tried this with Ultra Nova but didn’t have people who cared about the project enough to help with it. Jason ended up doing the modeling and it didn’t come out like we had hoped) Jason and I would love to get into animation (2D/3D), but that is not possible at the moment, however we are working on that and maybe later FAR down the line you’ll see that! (you can see with S6 we’re getting a feel for it! Animation ain’t just there for show it’s for prepping for the future)

I will do my best to open up more about my creative choices.

I understand some peeps are upset about the Ein/Aphmau thing and I plan on addressing that (maybe in another blog post later this week but it might just say what I’m about to say). Peeps tend to get riled up as soon as something negative happens and are on “attack mode” which leads to provocation and just a whole mess of emotions coming from both sides. But since I’m trying to be more open right now I’ll give it my best shot to address it later. For now to give a brief summary: not all stories/characters are 100% planned. My writing for stories years ago was not written knowing exactly where the characters would be year(s) later. Again a topic to get into depth for another time. I know there are peeps out there who won’t listen and will probably see everything I say as an excuse. But hey, I’m gonna open up and if they want to believe me or not is up to them. I understand why they’re upset and I value and respect their opinions, but implying someone’s absolute moral beliefs on a taboo subject through a fictional story is just odd. I think my girl Michaela best sums that up in this post.

My responsibility as a creator is to create. I do take responsibility in who sees my content through the systems that are set in place for that. But there is also a responsibility in the viewer to know the type of content they’re consuming. In the future maybe I’ll add in self ratings since that isn’t completely and transparently done through YT.

Whew, I hope that sums things up or at least gives an answer to a few things.

Lalnable Was a Thaumaturge

Hello! AH its good to be back into Yogscast shit, but I’ll just dive into this one right here:

In todays episode of Wizard School, Duncan was overcome by an Unnatural Hunger, a Flux event that causes the Thaumaturge to crave flesh from humans- specifically rotten flesh or zombie brains. During the event, Duncan panicked and began eating anything he could grab- a steak, then nether wart, before very quickly settling on Rotten Flesh with very little trial and error.

This, coupled with a few previous points in Yogscast Lore, has lead me to a possible... theory.

The timeline, as it is understood at the moment, places all modded series after YogLabs. To confirm this: Lalnable states he needs to go “Back” in time to YogLabs, ends up at Flux Buddies, and states that it wasn’t far enough. Knowing Lalnable is actually the original Duncan and all others we have followed are clones that were tampered with by Lewis, which is also confirmed in Flux Buddies S2 and Flux Baddies, and the first modded characters we meet are Duncan and Sjin, then logically YogLabs occurs before even the first Tekkit Series and the infamous War.

We also know with certainty that despite it not appearing in an episode, YogLabs has a magical research wing that would have featured a large spherical library, and a Starbucks of course, where several episodes would have featured YogLabs dabbling with Magic.

The pieces then are pretty obvious when laid out like this: I believe that Lalnable was originally placed over the Magical Department of YogLabs, and in his Yogscast Brand Incompetence TM or maybe willingly as Duncan is doing now for Research, he slowly contracted Flux, and was driven by the same Unnatural Hunger that struck our Magical Duncan this episode. It’s worth noting that OUR Duncan stated “Its just meat that’s rotten, it’s not THAT unnatural” when consuming the rotten HUMAN FLESH to satisfy the hunger.

The final, conclusion from all of this might have larger ramifications both on Magic Duncan’s future, and the backstory of Lalnable. I am stating that Lalanable was driven to cannibalism by the effects of the Flux, and that Magic Duncan is experiencing the same. History repeats itself after all. And what's more, this would imply that Lalnable is, in face, the end goal of the Flux Buddies series. He holds the key to curing Kim. But will he? And if he does, will it be in time to prevent Duncan from falling to the same temptations that drove his progenitor mad so long ago?

Mantle of Flames Names

Hey it's Thursday so guess what!

Mantle post!

Alright so, since one of the last things I posted was a character list I figured anyone who read it saw some.... familiar names. See: I have a habit of either A. Introducing a character based off someone as a one off joke or B. Naming a character after some other character because I don't have a name planned but the group asked and I panicked. Which would be fine, if my group didn't have a horrible habit of clinging into one off characters. (See Kyo, Buck, Tazd, or Left guard (who trust me, is a story for another day.)) So I figured I'd bare my shame out in the open and list off all the characters (I can remember) that are references and what they reference.

-Kyofushin: Yep starting with the biggest reference character I have. Name personality (well, original personality. He's grown over the years) voice and appearance Kyo is based off of Lyinginbedmon, mainly his character The Witch. Hell, Kyo used to have a shop called "The Witch's Well". What can I say, I like a good fox witch.

-Raven: Not so much in name but appearance and personality wise Raven is actually based off Rythian (of the yogscast). He looks edgy wearing a flowing black jacket and a purple face mask, is a super powerful mage, and stays rather emotionless and calm, but is actually a sweet boy. Sums up Rythian pretty well in my opinion.

-The Storm Sage: And rounding out the yogscast trio is a drow mage that specializes in lightning magic based off Kirin Dave. Personality name and voice was used. I had to watch a lot of Kirin and Lying videos to prepare to play them and Kirin's voice was actually really hard to mimic, but eventually I found a line that if I repeated it I could get the voice well enough. Funny enough (if you know anything about underyogs) Kyofushin and The Storm Sage actually fought at one point, Kyo got a nice scar over the eye from it. There was no clear leader though since the party stepped in. Fun fact: his actual name is Faeram.

-Bao Moonclaw: Actually based off Beowulf believe it or not. Hence why his daughter is named Grendel. Over the years has decreased how much his personality is based on Beowulf and is more just in name. (Even though I'm just now realizing I spelled it wrong. Wow, only took 2 years.)

-Carric Vax: Mostly his last name and originally his voice were based off Vaxildan from Critical Role. But over the years his voice has gotten softer and his last name actually got changed to Hilahila so... not sure if he really counts.

-Majora: A dress designer from like session 3 that they keep going back to. Name based of legend of Zelda obviously.

-Arthur, Morgana, and Mordred: This trio were introduced together as 3 guards set to watch Kyofushin at one point. I had been binging Merlin at the time hence the names. But I do really like Mordred, both the character and the name. Funnily enough Arthur actually died a while ago during a giant battle. Mordred's still kicking though... for now.

-Sol: Yup. Kythor has a calico tabaxi right hand running her thieves guild and I named him after a Warrior Cats villain. And the worst part? I loved it. But damn did the party hate him. Oh and speaking of warriors-

-Hollywing: Hollywing in name and appearance is based off a mash up of Warrior Cats Hollyleaf and my character Shadowwing, including her different color eyes to have one from each character.

-Sam, Lynn, and Neer Altava: Ok this one is obscure. But all three of them, in voice personality name and appearance, are based off characters from this obscure minecraft series called "Dragons of Elsewhere". Neer is actually based off the least as both his appearance voice and personality have changed to be more chaotic the longer I play him. They were supposed to be one off skyrates for a pirate adventure, but you know... my group. But hey Dragons of Elsewhere is really good and you should go watch it so they'll make more episodes. Actually now that I think about it, let me just rephrase this-

-Basically every skyrate ever: That's right folks I am horrible at coming up with specifically skyrates in advance apparently because guess what, almost every skyrate ever has been a name randomly grabbed from a show or something. Seriously! I've got Corvo from Dishonored, Ichibod and Calamity from No Evil, at least 3 of Captain Hunter's crew were named after Escape the Night cast members, hell even Hunter's first mate Kraven's name was taken from Critical Role's Kraven Edge.

Man I'm bad at names.

Actually, to prove that point let's just rapid fire some name only references to round out this list.

-Kovu: lion king. His name was actually originally going to be Nuka.

-Lassie/Lassiter: Psych

-Sloan: The Adventure Zone

-Aiden: Beyond 2 Souls.

-Elton: Elton John.

-Guinevere: Merlin, again.

And I think that's it... well mostly, this isn't even including other things that just barely don't make the list. Like how Zephyr was named after a character from a book I wrote. Or how it's a running joke in our group to have a character named Percy in every game so I have a teifling named Percy. Or characters that have such a brief appearance that even I forgot about them, like a recently named a random Raven Queen cleric Israphel (another yogscast reference). Or how I name a lot of characters after my coworker's.

Long story short? I'm so happy I got a book of names for Christmas.

(Also, I've come to the realization like the only people reading these are my players so... hi guys... see you in a week?)

(Also also, I've somehow managed to not be stabbed to death for 20 years straight as of today so... that's a thing I guess.)

(This is about to be a BIG rant on my part about MatPat’s video on YouTube he made today, so I’m gonna put my rant under the cut but you can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/iB7C7o920zE )

MatPat summarized my whole opinion on YouTube in the video I mentioned above. Content creators, especially gamers, give back to their communities more than most, in more than just monetary values. I’ll admit, while I personally want to go into a Psychology field, I’d love to BE a YouTuber. And one in the gaming sphere, for that matter! Or maybe more like a variety channel with gaming and the rest in it. But that’s beside the point.

YouTubers give content because that’s what they want to do. They’re entertainers, educators, and yes, some could be bad, some could do stupid things, but look: Humanity is inherently flawed. YouTube in and of itself is comprised of people. Cat videos? Done by people. YouTube Gaming? People playing those games. Beauty Vloggers? That’s people on the screen right there.

There is no way I can describe my outright rage towards ad companies pulling ads for a bad press story one niche channel did in one small video in a sphere of so much other content from the platform. If that were the case, why don’t they pull their ads anywhere else? Racism, sexism, bigortry, and so, so much more happens on the Television. But you still see Disney advertising their theme parks, their movies. You still see all these ads for products you’ll never need just there, on your screen.

YouTube is television, sort of, catered to watching what you want, when you want, from who you want. Television, you’re stuck with what’s on right now on the upwards of like, 800 channels out there. I want to watch the Kirby Anime! Where do I go? YOUTUBE. I don’t care that each of a hundred and one videos, each of which about twenty minutes long, have an ad at the start. That’s a hundred and one ads over the course of a hundred and one videos, for about forty hours that I’ve wasted of my life watching Kirby beat Dedede at his own game. But that’s beside the point.

“No one wants to hear good stories from YouTube.”

With today’s reality, the news is full of... shit. For lack of a better word. I’m in Canada, so I watch local news - car crashes, events, shootings, fires, sports, entertainment, weather - and some satirical comedy shows out of the US - presidential, presidential, oh my god can we hear something that isn’t presidential I want to gouge my eyes out, disaster, Stephen Colbert’s “Meanwhile” segments, and interviews - and it’s a whole lot of shit. I get no real “feel good” stories.

But here’s the thing: MatPat mentioned charity streams.

There was the one by... oh, my memory’s failing me again, but the Trans DK64 livestream. I heard about that! It made me so happy! I watched (not live, of course, I’m a bit slow for that sort of thing) Awesome Games Done Quick from their YouTube channel, and watched their Mario Odyssey playthrough when they hit two million just to make the runner do the re-fights, and to support the charity. It made my little heart so happy at like, midnight one night when I watched the whole thing, to see so much kindness.

Because all “real” news gives us is depressing.

Give me some feel-good stories about the Yogscast Jingle Jam raising 3 million. Give me some stories about AGDQ raising two million for cancer research. Give me some stories about Markiplier raising almost a million for charity. Give me some stories about that twenty million MatPat spoke of that YouTube content creators raised this past year.

You want to know why I think this?

Because the media can’t control the content.

They can’t control the creators and what they want to do.

They can’t turn to a YouTube channel and say “no more use of guns on your gaming channel” because, here’s your wake up call, a lot of games have guns in them.

YouTube lately has, from what I can see in my own personal watching, done something about their content creators, because the Yogscast seems to be... censoring some swear words. They censored cunt before, and it was funny at the time because it came out of nowhere in a TTT video. But now they censored Lewis saying “Duncan, I think I fucked up.” in the recently completed SevTech series on Duncan’s channel. You can fuck up - EVERYONE is entitled to fuck up at least once in their life - and Lewis, the idiot whom we love so much for being awkward and terrible and having almost no filter when it comes to stupid comments, thought he fucked up.

But they censor it, and the gravity of Lewis realizing with a sinking heart that he’s fucked up is lost, and it’s just irritating beeps and Lewis sounds worried in tone. I can get it being in a television show - Children may be watching! - but on YouTube, the only thing you can stop is age restricting things to 18+.

And you can just make a new account that’s over 18. I have a spam Gmail account I use for signing up for things for school that I really didn’t want on my main email, and through the random act of hitting random dates and years, it’s an 18+ account I can use on YouTube. I mean now I’m over 18, but still.

I think they realize that kids have access to these 18+ concepts online, but there’s nothing they can do about it. Go online, look up boobs, the only thing stopping you might be Google’s Safe Search, which is easily turned off with a click of a button. Go on, look up Call of Duty with all its gun violence. Nothing’s stopping you! You can watch someone else play the games you can’t because of age restrictions.

I said before that I want to go into Psychology, and I’m currently in some Psychology courses at College - soon to HOPEFULLY be a Psych program next year for two years, possibly with Co-Op. Regardless, I think my class today in Developmental Psych taught me a couple key things. And I’m going to mention one of two here: Parenting.

Sounds kind of out there on a YouTube-based post, but bear with me.

There are four types of parenting, more or less, and I’ll just list them from my lecture slides (if they’ll load for me...) because I’m not going to bother with images that probably won’t load anyways: Permissive, Authoritative, Rejecting (and other terms for this one), or Authoritarian. I’ll cover each quickly for you.

Permissive Parents are parents who don’t control their children much, but are very nurturing. “We love you so you can do what you want”. Simple as that. Authoritative Parents are parents who control their children but care for them. I like to say helicopter parenting falls somewhere within here, but “I must know what you’re doing at all times because I love you and care about you deeply.” I know this part very well, and this is the “golden standard” which I’ll be returning to. Rejecting, Neglecting, or Uninvolved Parents don’t care and don’t control. “Do whatever, I don’t care.” Not good, lemmie say. The last is Authoritarian Parents, who are controlling with no nurture (or little of it). “You must do as I say because its my way or the highway.” I’ll return to this too.

Let’s talk about Authoritative. Take this concept and put it to YouTube. They want what’s best under their views for their users, so they control the content (or try to) that’s put on their side. Helicopter Website? But they don’t care about the viewer, they only care about money, I hear you shouting from the depths of this hellsite. Then Authoritarian, I raise to you. You must abide by these things to protect the children who may or may not see this content because it’s this way or the highway. Or the ban hammer. Whichever.

Now I said two things from my lecture today, so here’s the second: Gender Development. I can hear confusion. So here, let me clarify. Children around the age of two or three learn to differentiate the sex of themselves and others through physical appearance. Gender and sex are not the same. I’ll say it again. Gender and sex are not the same. Gender is a social construct. Sex is biological. Sex, in layman’s terms, is whether you have a puss or a wang downstairs, and if you have something else, that’s intersex. Gender is how you feel. I personally feel like social constructs don’t fit, so I am gender non-conforming. Because Society wants it to be black or white, I’m gonna be green like Luigi.

But think about it: YouTube has content for everybody. So... Children who go to YouTube for entertainment see these people and start thinking. I have another Yogscast example, bear with me.

Sjin, one of my personal favourites, does a thing (almost?) every Jingle Jam, and he dresses up as Elsa and sings Let It Go. He’s fantastic. And hell, he looks good in the Elsa dress. Think to these children told that boys can’t wear dresses and makeup and like girly things from a young age by society looking at this grown-ass man living the life and singing a Disney song for charity. That’s not something society wants, they want black and white. They can’t have Sjin in a dress because he wants to! They can’t have men wearing makeup and doing girly things! No way in hell that’s happening! And yet YouTube... is here... and Sjin is Sjelsa.

He gives open arms to people who don’t feel like they can conform to society’s standards and says, with his actions, it doesn’t matter, so long as you’re happy with who you are. No one can deny that Sjin loves Frozen, and loves Elsa. He’s happy. And some people, seeing a grown man in a dress go “I don’t want my kids seeing that, its indecent and not what a man should do!”

Dude. If you’re a woman wearing pants right now, then go put on a skirt. Its indecent.

Or so people would’ve said several decades ago.

Because Society is changing.

And these old crones need to learn that Society is being run by people who open their arms to difference, and instead of saying “its this or that and nothing else”, they kick the false dilemma fallacy that it originally held and say “Hey, you’re different, and I want to know why if you’re willing to share. Oh, that’s it? Cool! Let’s continue our lives both richer with the knowledge we’ve gained today.”

Life isn’t black and white anymore.

It’s not even monochrome.

Life is in colour. And society needs to catch up.

As per usual...

TL;DR: Society, as shown by MatPat with his video on YouTube, wants to paint any new thing in a bad light and really only a bad light even though its good. I theorize it’s because society is the helicopter parent nobody likes and the censorship to everything that nobody deserves.

Let people live their lives. Honestly.

Fanfiction Writer Asks

Fuck it, I’ll do it myself, because I know I can’t count on you nerds to actually ask anything. :p

1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?

I really don’t know. I’ve been writing creatively since I was like 6. I don’t really remember writing for fandom until Pokémon, but I’ve been in fandom since the original Sailor Moon and Ronin Warriors/Samurai Troopers.

2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?

I guess the Yogscast. Except I only really like a few of them, and it sure as shit isn’t the main channel people. I haven’t found a new obsession because I can’t sit still for tv anymore, and I’m a patient gamer/reader. So once I find something I like, it’s probably old and everyone’s already moved on.

3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.

OCs. I am boring, shy (and thus no fun), and quite good at ruining the moment.

4) What is your favourite genre to write for?

Action/Adventure. Fight scenes. Getting out of dire as fuck situations. Underdogs.

5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?

I have so many… XP I guess a story I wrote in called Royal Infamy. It was literally hundreds of pages long, spanned at least 4 different fandoms, and could’ve been a standalone series if I just changed the names. Unfortunately it’s been lost to the ooooolllllddddd (and I mean 2001) internet. I like to think that maybe it’s on some ancient server, saved by those sorts of people who try to archive the entire internet and have literal exabytes of hoarded data. It was also how I met my SO of 13 years.

6) If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why?

A Prince of Persia fic. I don’t even like Prince of Persia.

7) When is your preferred time to write?

I never get as much inspiration as when it’s 1am and I’m supposed to be going to bed like a normal person. But never at a normal hour in the evening unless I’m inspired at work and have to rush home before I forget.

8) Where do you take your inspiration from?

It used to be from all the anime I used to watch, now it’s cobbled together from fantasy books and video games.

9) In your xxx fic, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?

Like erotic fic? Eeeh. I’m so terrible at it that I literally only have one, I’m writing it right now, I’m not finished, and I don’t particularly like it because I keep subconsciously writing away from the part where they hold hands because I’m conflicted and discomforted by the whole thing, to be honest. Like, even when I was adolescent and supposed to be thirsty as teenagers are, I just wasn’t and couldn’t. My ex tried to get me to write something for him, and I still couldn’t do it. *shrug* It doesn’t help that I’ve never been big on shipping. …Those characters sure are standing next to each other, yep.

10) In your xxx fic, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?

Hahah… endings. That’s good. (Also see previous question.)

11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?

Not that I can recall, unless you count ‘stop doing that thing’, ‘okay’ *does it more*

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

Rythian. Fuckin’ edgelord. Just everything about him and his OC is *kisses fingers*.

13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?

Unfortunately Rythian is usually entangled with other people from the Yogscast. :p

14) How did you come up with the title for the xxx?

Current project doesn’t even have a title, that’s how non-committed I am to it (she says even though it’s fast approaching a novelette.)

15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?

If it’s an OC of a particular universe, there’s probably a naming convention, and I go by many names. If it’s just generic freestanding story, I keysmash and pick through it until it rolls off the tongue.

16) How did you come up with the idea for xxx?

Classic ‘rivals who hide their sexual tension behind their distaste for one another.’

17) Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.

“I haven’t seen your face since when you first came back from The End. And the … incident with trying to rid you of your curse.” He chuckled. “I’ve actually seen a lot more than your scars.”

18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?

Like 75% of my work is abandonware. I have ADHD, I get bored, and I usually take so long, the fandom “dies” before I can finish. And the moment is gone.

19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?

Royal Infamy. And make it mine this time.

20) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently?

Probably Royal Infamy.

21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?

Ilona Andrews. Her style is exactly what I aim for. …Okay maybe not the monster fucking, but the rest of it. Exciting, tense, a little bit scary.

22) Do you have a story that you look back on and cringe when you reread it?

The Prince of Persia fic. The first draft of the erofic. The weeb crack.

23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?

Silence. My brain goes 100% towards analyzing music and then I can’t focus on anything else.

24) How do you feel about writing smutty scenes?

Eeeeeeehhhhhh *whines* I don’t wanna…

25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?

Nope. I don’t write that kind of pain.

26) Which part of your xxx fic was the hardest to write?

The part where these two people who’ve tried to murder each other could even reasonably be in each other’s presence, let alone fuck. Also eternal hatred for evasive genital description brought on by a broken, puritan society.

27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?

I should start making outlines. My current three projects keep going off the rails.

28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?

To go in with no expectations of people ever responding let alone giving feedback to anything. You’re just tossing shit in a hole and for every ton, one flower might grow.

29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?

I did a thing about how Lalnable Hector created Echo, and *crickets*.

30) In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?

Mary Sue. And you’re goddamn right she was. And I’ll fucking do it again.

Nope, not for fear or anything, I just don’t think to share before it’s done because I’ll probably abandon it anyway.

You fucking made me open one of my old Gundam Wing crack fics to check. Now I don’t know because I’m still cringing.

*shrug* Like… I haven’t done a collab in *checks calendar* 17 years. I don’t have any live fandoms. I’m not big on trying to meld with other people’s styles.

…Okay, now I seriously can’t tell if xxx means erotic or a particular example. 😐 Anyway, I for some reason lost the ability to link songs to fics/personalities. I just don’t think of any particular person when I hear a song and vice-versa.

43) Has anyone ever guessed the plot twist of one of your fics before you posted it?

That would imply enough people cared.

44) What is the last line you wrote?

Despite the queen pushing him, he couldn’t move even if he wanted to (which he didn’t.)

45) What spurs you on during the writing process?

If I don’t fucking do this it’s going to bother the fuck out of me for weeks, even if I don’t finish. Just get it on paper so it goes away.

46) I really loved your xxx fic. If you were ever to do a sequel, what do you think might happen in it?

More action and intrigue.

It's a series and the first episode is on his youtube channel! The rest is on an app called VRV, which is free.

Theres definitely a yog for everyone, some do a lot of livestreams, some do VODs, and the group as a whole really helped me out when I needed a distraction from everyday life.

Now, love, you may wonder why do I wanna post a lot of random funny stuff you could watch if you wanted to. Well, sometimes people get really depressed. And that's okay. These channels and videos helped me get through one of the worst times in my life, and I really hope they can help you too! I'm definitely gonna update this list as I remember and find more stuff for it as well. If you wanted to, maybe you could make a sort of playlist or short list of things that always make you smile, from youtube to random shows, to anything really! If you decide to make it, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it! Making this list made me smile and relive some happy times, so maybe if you make one it might make you smile too.

I don’t watch Yogscast much, what happened?

Ahh yes, well, as a whole the company isn’t doing so great re: what personalities and content they’re bringing on, and all the fantastic folks they had during the golden days (tbh while they had narrative modded Minecraft series running) have split. As for Sj*n specifically, he finally was investigated for nude soliciting allegations and he (along with CEO Turps, who confessed to similar behavior) left.

So the new Yogscast is kiiinda garbage (only three original members remain) and while Sj*n was still a garbo back then, the character is worth plucking from him and we can just pretend that he was an NPC.

So. I want to ask a thing. How did you come up with the designs you chose for the characters?

God damn, that’s a hard question to answer! There are a lot of facets that go into character design… and hell, a lot of it can be summed up as “because it felt/looked right.”

Of course, the base of all their designs came first and foremost from the Yogscast’s various Minecraft skins, then it was supplemented with aspects of various fanart/fancannon the fans of created for Yogs. Naturally there where some other outside influences (I watch a lot of Anime and American cartoons for example,) but I tried my best to keep close to the core of the characters.

In general for drawing them I had three steadfast rules.

Each character can only have a max of three colours (plus Black & White). No one will mistake one character for another and colour choice with the silhouettes will be my first step!

I hate drawing legs & feet at the best of times. Everyone gets black legs. No exceptions.

No one gets any skin colour of any kind. I want the characters to pop out on screen from the backgrounds, and skin tones will eat into my colour limit for each character.

Let me give you a few dot point examples of some of the inspirations for some of the character designs…

Dr Lalna Duncan Jones & Kim Nano Sounds. (FluxBuddies)

Both of their designs are almost entirely based on a fanart sketch I did for SuperYogs. I kept their clothes almost entirely unchanged!

Kim needed a lab coat. The excuse is that its because she works for Yoglabs, when in reality, I wanted to give her something that would go woosh when she turned around or struck a pose.

Under her coat is mostly taken from her earlyer minecraft skin though, hair-clips included!

Duncan’s outfit is from his non-fluxxed base skin, however I did drop his gloves and warmed up his shirt to be a turtleneck instead.

The most difficult thing about Duncan was that I needed his face to be friendly but still hold the possibility for evil (After all, Lalnable would have the same face!). So I went for exhausted/tired. Shadowy eyes work well for both.

Also, this is more for Lalnable then anyone else, but I’m sure I took some cues (hair & face mostly) from Tenninhouse’s alternate costume for Duncan.

Lewis Xephos (Yoglabs)

His hero outfit is basically a flat rip from his Minecraft Skin.

Yoglabs Military-esk uniform? Hugo Boss WW2 designs. (Lewis is ‘literally’ Hitler after all.) It makes him look like more of a “bad guy”. I’m subtle, like a brick.

THIS picture by tenlayer. I saw it and went “THAT. I want him to turn around and then BAM dark as FUCK! Just. Like. That!”

I am pretty sure I was inspired by cerebrobullet’s image of Xephos too.

Rythian Enderborn (Blackrock & The Princess)

It is hard to tell, but I did use his older, darker, minecraft skins from the first season of Blackrock as a base to start from.

Unsurprisingly, batman (the animated series) was an influence for Rythian’s style, most noticeable in the opening of the show. (it was originally the whole original concept of the comic to be batman-esk but I toned it right back to keep the Yogscast fun… Rythian kept most of it though.)

Well, it was either batman or, No joke, Umbrella Rythian by Sinns.

I am pretty sure his hair & mask was inspired by this Rythian Doodle by Winters-Shade, I have it saved on my computer.
