Listen. The team went their separate ways at the end of season one in part because Sophie conned them and in part because they felt like it was time, they reached a natural breaking point, they did some good and now they don't need to be together anymore.
They came back together in season two in large part because they realized they wanted to continue the work and that they needed/wanted each other other, but also because Sophie conned them.
She had the whole world and she was in a show specifically in Boston (where she knew Nate--the hardest person to convince--was going to be).
She arranged it so they all arrived at roughly the same time (seems likely she gave them an arrival time, probably saying that's when she'd be able to come out and see them before the show), without anticipating ahead of time that they would be seeing each other and thus having second thoughts (all it would have taken was one mention that she was inviting everybody; instead they all seem to expect they were each the only person invited), and shortly before the beginning of the show so that she has just enough time to make them feel guilty enough to stay without leaving enough time for anyone to politely excuse themselves.
And she set up a situation in which she was sure to have their pity, thus making them both stick around a little longer and want to cheer her up (Sophie knows she gets bad reviews on stage; she doesn't understand yet why people don't like her performance or how to do better, but she's one of the most observant people in the world--she knows. She knows the team knows.).
Sophie put all the dominoes in place and then let them be who they are, because she was right and they do belong together.

Seeing as the person who drew this for me and listens to me yell about these two and Rudyard is currently Illegal For Tumblr, I have been given permission to post this!
So a huge thank you I'm crying @ gunhorse ;0; my kids look great and I wuv them... I'm sobbing.
(And for those wondering, the agent named Bravo encounters Katale a fair amount though completely intentional from her. He thinks that she's just a very nice woman who got mixed up in the wrong crowd and she doesn't seem to wish him hard and he doesn't wish her harm so in the end when he sees her he's putting his gun away into a shoulder holster because he's a Good Boy.)

The difference between us fic writers is, we write about all manner of nasty things. But we also tag them as a means of warning readers. If the work contains something I don't want to read about, I don't read it.
In the case of Our Flag Means Death: There was no tag warning about the death of a major character. But I learned about it through other people.
So with that in mind, I will not continue my viewing of the show. Because I honestly don't want to see this character's death.
I hope it DOES continue onward. Maybe Izzy WILL be brought back through some miraculous twist of fate. Or maybe it's wishful thinking.
But, as it is, I am putting this story down... Our Flag Means Death ended with La Vie En Rose.

I keep being told that my grandma's neighbor's son is "weird" and "super autistic" and that I can't possibly be autistic because I never acted like he does. But here's the thing all I see when I watch him is a kid playing in the dirt. Like yeah OK most kids don't do that *nowadays* but like kids do weird shit. I'm told it's hard to talk to him. I assume that they simply aren't approaching him right. He may be shy! I don't care that he's somewhere between 7 and 11 years old he might just not like strangers. That's normal, kid shit. How different from me can he possibly be? He's human. I'm human. He's a child. I was a child. I bet if I talked to him and found out his interests, I could have an easier time talking to him than the people telling me he's "strange" ever could. You just have to know how to interact with kids. It's amazing that I know you talk to them about their interest while actual parents don't when I will freely say I don't want kids. How am I better equipped to treat them like humans? Also, the little boy seems like he's going to grow up and be a perfectly okay person who'll do just fine in whatever field he chooses. I don't know his interests, so I can't say what that'll be, but I'm sure he'll do great.

an idea that i think would be funny: a fic in which nhs wants to Do Something. he is genuinely very bad at it and is flying by the seat of his uhhhh underpants all the time. i repeat: no hidden genius powers. he is not very smart, and struggling all the time. however, because he’s also god’s favourite little comedian, somehow some things happen to have good results, some have bad results but people magically don’t notice, and in some cases his squirming actually helps someone. he is incredibly stressed and tired all the time and nmj is like “what the fuck, he’s not even doing anything” and, yes but he’s Trying (and failing, and it takes energy too)
