How to spot a recast (Iplehouse skin tones and faceups)

Alrighty everybody I decided to put this together to help y’all spot recasts that are tan skin tones. Please know that I’m only using Iplehouse dolls as references because that’s all I have to compare with. All my dolls are from Iple so I can’t give proper warnings with other companies. I’m sorry. This post is going to be photo heavy so I’ll put it under a readmore, but for the first recast awareness post where I compared a recast to a legit body, you can find that here on my personal blog.

I will also be discussing some faceup things I have noticed with recasts, as in the recast comes with a faceup when bought new--not done by a artist.

Okay so when it comes to Iplehouse tan resins, they have Peach Gold, Real Skin, Light Brown, and Ebony. I have not seen ebony as much with recasts, but’s still out there. I’ll be going over the other three colors in detail since I own them, have photos, and found tan recasts that are similar to those. I am not promoting recasts by inserting photos of them, and got these photos from ebay where the dolls were explicitly stated as being recasts.

1: Peach Gold. PG is the shade after normal on the darker spectrum of Iplehouse’s colors. It’s a peachy pale skin tone with warm golden undertones. It also comes in the “glow” option where its partially transparent for a more realistic look, and the glow options tend to lean more on the warmer end. PG is pretty consistent in color from batch to batch, I own 3 PG dolls and they’re all very similar. Here is my SID Grace (2017) who is the regular PG, first photo is taken with flash, second is my normal house lighting that is on the yellow side, and last is with flash and with my glow PG Mari (2016).

(ignore that they’re all kinda piled on my couch hahaha) As you can see next to the glow PG, there’s more pink and less gold. Now, here’s a couple photos of a tan recast Grace (same sculpt) to compare to.

(sorry for the bad quality, ebay mobile is like that), as you can see the recast tan is darker than PG, but VERY warm like it. So since its darker, lets compare to the next skintone from Iplehouse.

2: Real Skin RS is the medium of the darker shades, it’s a wonderful tan color leaning on the olive side. It has a lot of yellowy green undertones and reminds me of a latte with lots of milk in it. Its the most consistent tan color, I have two dolls in this color and several parts all ordered from different times and they all match perfectly. It also comes in the glow option which is more warm on the yellow side and a shade darker, I don’t have a doll in the glow for a comparison. ALSO important to note is that Iplehouse dolls in PG, RS, and light brown made before 2014 did have a soft glow to them because they were made with french resin. Iplehouse switched to matte colors in 2014 due to difficulty with the french resin, and in 2016 they introduced the glow line which is not french resin. Okay so lets look at some photos! Here is Josh, my SID Edan (2015) and Rhys my FID Rex (2018). First photo is Josh with flash, second is him in my normal house lighting, third is Rhys next to a window with natural light, third is him with flash next to my light brown Bianca (2016).

As you can see lighting makes a big difference with this tone but it always remains an olive color with yellow undertones. It does not match the orange base of the recast Grace I showed above or the recast FID Rex (same sculpt as Rhys) I am going to post below. You can also see that compared to light brown, theres a big contrast and light brown isn’t orange toned either, just warm.

Again, it’s a very orange, missing the headplate but since those are now being recreated by recasters they don’t matter *insert upside down smiley face here*. The resin is shiny all over, and also isn’t consistent in color throughout the doll. The chest, eblow peanuts, and head are darker. I wanted to include the description because the seller mentions that he has no seam lines which is not something you’ll see on legit Iplehouse dolls. They have seams because Iple doesn’t like to leave sanding marks. Now lets move onto the darkest color I have reference photos of.

3: Light Brown. LB is the second to last of the tans, in 2015 they darkened the color a bit and it is the most inconsistent color out of all their resins. I have 3 LB dolls, and two match while one is a little lighter and more warm toned (you saw her above). LB is dark, warm but not orange, and reminds me of milk chocolate. It also comes in the glow option but again I don’t have a doll in that color haha. Here are some photos of Rex my YID Chris, he’s the newest LB doll I have, first pic is with flash, second in my house lighting, third is compared to PG and RS.

With flash, he shows more yellowy tones, but without it shows his true color despite my bad house light haha, and the last one I feel is a good comparison to show that he’s darker than the tan recasts come in (yes I know this can vary from recaster but majority seem to be around that same deep orange color).

Now I’m going to talk about a few skin tones I don’t have good comparisons of but have noticed things: White: Iple’s white isn’t fully white, it’s paler than normal but it has pink undertones and when it yellows it goes really yellow, its matte as well. Recast white is paper white and glowy. Normal: Iple’s normal is very pink and usually mellows within the first year or two, when it yellows it yellows out to a nice color, kinda like a very pale olive. It’s also matte. Recast normal is a porky pink unlike how legit normal is a normal with LOTS of pink undertones, recast normal is literally like a light pink with some yellow added in to try and balance, or its the opposite where its very yellow with hardy any pink, but one consistent thing is that its not matte, its glowy because its Chinese resin. Ebony: Iple’s ebony is SUPER dark and cool toned with a good mix of blue and red undertones, when it yellows it doesn’t green it more “cools” as the blue tones take over and it still looks realistic. Recast ebony isn’t anywhere as dark and is again super warm. I haven’t seen many in this shade so thats all I can say on that.

Faceups. Things I’ve noticed is that faceups from recasters always have this fake plastic kinda look to them, where they look like they were stamped on. One recaster colors eyebrows purple. Another one rips off Iple’s faceups but does poor quality on it. Another uses sparkles under the sealant or glossy sealant. Look at the recasts I posted above, the faceups look stamped on. Please note all my dolls except one currently have faceups by me, but here’s some old photos (of my dolls) comparing Iple’s faceups to some other recasts I found on ebay. Legit’s up first:

For Iplehouse OG faceups, everything is consistent with colors, its all blended nicely, natural, and the linework is super neat and thin (iple expose your secrets to me PLS). Anyway, these are all over 4 years old, and since then Iple has changed their style a bit, but its all still very high quality. Here’s the recasts:

Set 1: stamped on look with heavy linework and blushing, ultra saturated colors, and “sharp” eyebrows and lashes. Also the eyebrows arent even, something I’ve never seen Iple do (again Iple faceup artist reveal your secrets to me).

Set 2: purple brows! those eyebrows are PURPLE guys, so is the shading around the last ones eyes. Colors are off, looks rushed, and again thick and heavy linework.

Okay thats all I have to add. I hope this helps you out and again, all these photos are from ebay recasts for sale, the photos aren’t stolen ones I triple checked. Please reblog this because now ebay thinks I want to buy recasts and keeps sending me emails about them.

To my baby mission

Mission, it’s been an hour since you left. I rushed to shower and seeing you with your head tilted on that purple mat, i told you repeatedly “sabar mission, tahan skjap, nunun bagi makan kjap”. I looked at you and my heart felt heavy. i dont know what the feeling was back then but i just didnt feel so good. i wondered if i should give you your glucose water first then leave to shower. but i was on my period so i had to go shower, i decided.

I was in the midst of showering and left the stove on to boil pumpkin which was the only food you could consume in your diet. It was not long after that i heard obeng scream. i wasnt sure if i heard it right, so i kept flossing. another. i knew i had to go down. obeng wailed and she screamed and mama was screaming back at obeng to stop shouting. i shouted back at mama telling her to stop yelling and told obeng to lower down her voice. mission, i love you. i will continue to love you and i hope to remember you forever.

your original name was mitsu, meaning........ shine in japanese, you have 4 brothers: three of you triplets (mika and mizu), and a younger brother (Muji) - he’s not here anymore either. you and your brothers were the weirdest bunch, mama didnt like all your tails bcuz it was folded - she had a thing for straight tail cats. but your rounded tail became a trait we love about you so much. your tail would always mengait other stuff like my charger, or sandals. it was powerful and could flick anything and hit the floor like a dog wagging their tail. you reminded me of a dog, bcuz you had long ears, big feet. you also reminded me of a monkey becuz you had that white thing on your head. you reminded me of a lion, becus you had a big nose.

you were loving when the new batch of kittens showed up (i forgot about this until obeng showed a picture of you sleeping with baby johnny). you looked like an anime cat. just like burai.

as you grew older, you were the most most most fiesty cat! loving to humans, but a fighter to other cats. you couldnt stand looking at a cat and your head will automatically tilt to the side and you would be in fight mode. you were loving to your brothers though, only sometimes you would fight if you guys got inside the house... weird.

then the worst happened. last year in dec, your stomach looked bloated and you got really sick and yellow. we brought u to the vet and they said you had fluid in your liver? they injected you twice and nothing came out. you were so patient. during the car rides, and when being examined by the vets. the vets were amazed by you as well because you were so obedient and ur butt would always rise up to the air if you were stroked. they said it would be reoccuring and you had 50/50 chance to live. seeing you get poked, and them saying that, i cried. i couldnt imagine the triplets to be just... twins. the idea scared me, mission. the fluid drained to your testes and it expanded. they said it was a tumour? we had to go back to the vet like 4 times almost each week? for review bcuz you werent fit enough for surgery. then finally after we got back from our holiday, they set an appointment date for january i think or was it late december? you had to also wear that big helmet bcuz you kept liking your balls and your fur was a mess. we made fun of you bobbing your head and eating in weird positions. you were fine after.

2 weeks ago, you got sick again. fever, we brought you to the vet. they said why was he not being reviewed after castration? i said we werent told. you had pus on your balls. you were in pain. then you had to go for a blood test which was $120. low Hb, high WBC etc. anemic. they had to use a needle on you again, yet you were patient as if it didnt hurt. you were so strong mission. you were fine after, for like a week, then you got fever again. it was 2 days after we stopped giving pumpkin.3 days we forced fed you and today we brught you tot he vet. i was at school, but kaka and obeng went and the dr said you were fine. more meds. i was relieved. you could make it. youre so strong. just later that night it somehow took a turn for the worst.

mission, im so sorry. im sorry as much as i can be. as much as the world’s ability to occupy many things. i love you and i cant believe you held out for the longest time.

Mission was so weird bcuz he liked bread and egg . he liked tuna which is something he couldnt eat. bcuz protein. he could eat 2 slices of bread himselft. he didnt chew it but he licked it. the sound of plastic triggered his appetitie and he meowed almost every second of the day. he was so lving and he had a specialised box where he slept. he slept almost every where else though. he was so big and muscly, bcuz he got sick, he became just long and skinny. its so sad to think about. i will try to think about happy things. but its so hard bcuz those happy things are just memories now. you were called mission through out your life becus when you were little your meow sounded like a radio transmission, so thats how the name transmission came about. you dont meow like that anymore though. i forgot how your meow sounded like before. you meh meh all the time too. mission, i love you so so much baby im sorry i didnt/ couldnt help as much as i should have. please please forgive me and pls have us in your memories. i hope to see you again soon bread boy. i hope your ok now. and happy in heaven i love you very much. please know that :( im so sad. i love you.

Cullen making bat cookies for Dorian

It was perfect, he had only come out to the shops to pick up some more dog food and a few other bits. Now he had an idea that would hopefully heal his lover and take some of the stress out of his shoulders. Cullen grabbed the cookie cutters from the clearance shelf, nipped round the baking section (spending far too long perusing) and headed straight to the check out. He couldn’t wait to get home, grin set wide on his face.

Six hours later, a four batches of bat cookies binned and one very pleased dog did not help Cullen. As soon as he had got home he had put aside everything planned for the day so that he could make this for Dorian.

He had so much work piled on him recently, always coming home late looking like he had seen too many meeting for one person, he had soothed his shoulders and given soft kisses in the evening, but it wasn’t enough to lift that weary look from his steal grey eyes. Cullen was lucky in a way to work such flexible hours, but sometimes he wished to be by Dorians side, working again to take the weight off.

Beeping from the oven pulled him from his thoughts. He had just finished stirring the icing, black had been a failure but the dark purple was coming out much better. Dusting more flour from his shirt he walked over and hoped not to be greeted by more singed biscuits waiting for him on the tray. He used to be good at this, it was a hobby when he was young, but he appeared to have lost the knack for it in all those years he hadn’t picked up a mixing bowl.

They were golden, not too crisp and not too soft. Finally. Perfection. He slowly pulled them out, eyeing the Labrador mix that sat opposite him. Benny had already tasted some of his early creations, and seemed to be quite happy with the charred remains of them as he got them out the bin. Cullen frowned.

“No, you have had quite enough for today, and I finally have it right!” The mutt huffed and went back to licking any tip bits that had fallen to the floor and Cullen smiled at him, he was ecstatic to get them right, even if Benny didn’t appreciate it.

The fresh hint of lavender followed as he placed them to cool on the side. A calming scent and favour that was sure to unwind tight muscles. Hopefully the shape would put a smile on his lovers face again, he hadn’t seen a genuine one in at least a week. Smoothing the icing over each one, careful not to drip, Cullen took care and attention to each design, making them individual. He finished with a final one, pure white with dark eyes, Dorians favourite type of bat was complete.

Minutes later, as Cullen admired his work, the sound of the door opening and a skitter of claws startled him.

He glanced at the clock as he quickly plated each one up. Dorian was early. Why? The kitchen was a mess. He looked down and discovered that he was even more of a mess. No way to greet his lover. He panicked. Not knowing what to do he grabbed the plate and headed for the hall, hoping to keep Dorian happy in the lounge so he wouldn’t see what a mess he had created. Brushing himself haphazardly he hurried along.

Heading round the corner and he was face to face with Dorian. Glad to not loose his balance as he was startled Cullen deftly circled them so Dorian couldn’t peak into the chaos.

“How was your day? Did your meetings go well? How was the weather? Thats a beautiful suit on you! Here look I made you biscuits!” Dorian stared blankly at his boyfriends odd behaviour. But as he looked down it all fell to the wayside. Cullen was thrusting a plate of bat shaped biscuits at him, and he welled up as he read the message on them.

“I love you too” He mumbled against Cullen’s shoulder as he pulled him into a hug, the plate still held to the side as he engulfed his lover. Tears fell slowly as he was overwhelmed by joy and what Cullen had done for him. A nervous chuckle escaped the blond man as they pulled apart, and his hand instinctively scratched the back of his neck.

“I just wanted you to relax for a moment, my dearest, you have been working so hard.” Cullen leaned in and kissed him on the cheek, moustache tickling his lips. “Come lets go relax for a moment before I go clear the mess I have made of out kitchen.” He looked a bit sheepish at that but gently led them to the plush sofa.

A smile hadn’t left Dorians lips, and for the rest of that evening they relaxed, melting into the cushions as the biscuits did their work. Benny took the liberty of taking his fair share, but even then, their night was still perfect.
