How to make icons like these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flags: Idol system, Bubblegender, Musicstar
Warning: This tutorial relies on the idea that you have some understanding of how to use photoediting software like photoshop, however if something that doesn't make sense then feel free to ask and I will explain it as best as I can.
All the icons we made for this can be found here! Thank you for reading, please consider reblogging this post and the icons because this took forever to write up and the icons take a LONG time to make.
In this tutorial I will make DID/OSDD Aoi Miyake icons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway let's get into it!
Step one, choose what you're going to make (and gathering resources)
This may seem obvious, but going in with a plan makes these so much easier.
In this stage we consider three things:
The flag and/or colors we want to use in the icon, this is important as it can affect the images used or even the character depending on how similar their colors are
Character and the general colors associated with them, this is important as it can makes the filtering stage easier (or harder) and can make an icon look 'wrong' or 'right' sadly
The border of the icon and how that will affect the icon itself, sometimes they're easy to work with, others not so much. Our method differs from a lot of other peoples so we take more time with them than most others
In this case I will be making DID icons of Aoi Miyake from D4DJ, however due to how most of her cards have a blue tint I will be using the plural peafowl flag by m0dem0n than the original DID flag- This is to save time and make th icons look more harmonious.
We will also be using this mask by i'mjustchillinghere as the icon base
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step two, coloring the middle image (optional step)
This is a lot of guess work and everyone has a different process for this. Essentially we're going to make a PSD that makes the image look better with the colors of the flag.
As shown above we have the flag and the character image, but they don't match completely. The rose and other blue accents are too saturated compared to the flag and the black is too black and the wrong blue hue, the eye could also be a bit greener and saturated imo.
What I like to do is open the image with the flag behind or infront, so I can see the colors I'm working with.
Tumblr media
Then I open the hue editor layer (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue and Saturation). It's very important to clip the hue layer to the image so it doesn't start messing with the colors of the flag (we've had this happen many times before it's very awkward trying to match a color that keeps changing) to clip right click 'Clipping Mask'.
Your screen should then look like this:
Tumblr media
Okay so if you need to adjust the screen to get the icon in the center so you can see everything do this now.
Next where the box with the hue options says master, click it.
Tumblr media
These are all the color options you can change, in this we'll mostly be using, yellow, green and blue. For other projects blue and cyan sometimes get 'mixed up' and can control both shades so be careful with that.
Other color settings we personally use are: Vibrance and Selective Color (both are located under the Layer option), but in this case I'm happy to just use Hue and Vibrance.
This is what the icons look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No color editing | Just Hue and Saturation | Hue and Saturation + Vibrance
Now your middle icon is ready turn off the background layer and save the image as a transparent png!
Step three, preparing the mask for use
So the mask is the base of your icon, however if you clip all aspects of your icon to the mask it looks like this and you can't see the flag.
Tumblr media
So what you need to do is layer the mask. This will vary in difficulty, it can depend on how far apart the pieces of the mask are and how they interlink. You could erase the border parts but that takes a lot of time.
This icon is simple because to me there's three clear sections, the middle part, the border and the rose. What you need to do is copy the layer three times and get the wand- I would reccomend having the wand strengh over 100 or else black lines may remain, but this will depend on how close the black parts are.
Hide the top two layers and work from the bottom up. Select all the areas you want to delete, in this case I can only delete the rose (the border is too close to the middle part and would delete that as well) and then hit delete.
In this case, I will just erase the border by hand, and then BOOM, you have a base!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hide this layer and move to the next, for this one I'm removing the middle and the rose.
For the next layer you can select what's in the layer below and delete it without it impacting the border, which makes the icon process easier, however in this case I'm going to give out the border layers for you here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step four, using the mask
NOW you can clip the flag to the layers! We always clip it to the base and border layer.
As for the rose... We make a seperate layer and clip it to those rose. Then (using the eye dropper tool) pick colors from the flag to use to color it in! As shown:
Tumblr media
Next step is to add the image you colored!
Go to File > Open and Place and then choose the PNG from your gallery and place it in the icon. Once it's there fiddle around with it until you get the image you want and then BOOM!
Tumblr media
Now you have a singlar icon!
Feel free to repeat this as many times as you want and make as many icons as you want.
-
All the icons we made for this can be found here! Thank you for reading, once again please consider reblogging this post and the icons because this took forever to write up and the icons take a LONG time to make.

D4DJ Lore...?
Kinda messing with me right now that this is real lol. So I saw this post on Twitter:
Tumblr media
Which is a meme (I thought) of an interview with Nakamura Kou, the creator of D4DJ. Here's my rough translation of the 3rd sentence onward which stuck out to me:
In terms of the setting, the image is a near future about two to three years from now in a timeline where the Lehman Brothers collapse never happened. Young people are more energetic, and they're more interested in older culture and music, the image is a world where DJs are in fashion.
But it's real! And I guess it makes sense with what we see of the setting. There's a similar thing going on in Aikatsu, where there's a near future with hologram technology. This makes the logic of elaborate performance setpieces make a lot more sense, but unlike Aikatsu I can't recall a ton of actually crazy performances like that. In fact, most of the performances are pretty standard and not far from what you'd see today.
Another reason why you'd maybe want to establish this setting is maybe just to be able to use a futuristic aesthetic but also explain how the music sounds pretty much like what we have today. I like Carole and Tuesday's take on this, where the story takes place in 2050 or so but pop music isn't super different from where it is now, because according to Shinichiro Watanabe, pop music today isn't too different than it was 50 years ago in a sense.
There's a last aspect of this which I think is an astute observation but again, is something I would not expect from an idol franchise. It's not that D4DJ imagines a utopia necessarily, it's that any realistic vision of the future now, even a near future, pretty much is a dystopia. So if you want to establish a version of the present or any time close to it that is optimistic, colorful, etc., then logically something has to be different. I find it interesting that Nakamura actually thought about this and tried to shape the world to fit this observation somehow, even if I think no one would really bat an eye necessarily if it was never explained why precisely everyone is having a good time in a cheery idol anime. I wonder if utopias will come back into fashion soon.
It seems like an unnecessarily specific detail but as I mentioned in my Digimon Ghost Game post, these media mixes actually tend to put a lot of detail into their worldview or setting, even if most fans don't actually notice a lot of it.

intro post!!!
hi, I'm Jess!!! as the title of this blog implies, I enjoy rhythm games.
I like explaining and telling people about things I'm into, so I made this blog for people to ask questions about rhythm games, whether those "questions" be "How do you play x?" "Where can I find x?" "What's your high scores?" "Who's your favorite character?" or even just you telling me about your experiences with rhythm games :)
here's a list of games you can ask me about (anything else will leave me totally clueless, sorry)
-Rhythm Heaven
-Project Sekai/Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!
-Bandori/BanG Dream Girls Band Party
-D4DJ Groovy Mix
-Parappa the Rapper
-Phigros
-Tapsonic Top
-Arcaea (however I am VERY bad at it and I don't know much story wise, so ask at your own risk with this one xP)
this is what I play right now, this list may grow later. I want to get access to more console/arcade rhythm games, but I'm stuck with what I have for now. my dream is to find an arcade that has DDR or a DDR-like game, but I have yet to find one. :,)
ask rules below the cut!!! please read them, they're very important! /gen
FYI: I use she/her pronouns.
RULES:
1. I am a minor. Please no NSFW, even if it is a joke. Similarly, if your blog is unsafe for minors or you don't want them interacting, please stay away from this blog.
2. I don't mind non-rhythm game related asks every once in a while, but please try to mainly only ask about rhythm games. If you're unsure if it's okay to send a joke/unrelated ask (will be tagged as #not rhythm games), DM me and I'll tell you. (I'll usually be okay with them, but if I have a lot I'll likely say no.) On the other hand, compliments and concerns are always welcome, you don't need permission. Also, please no chainmail.
3. Don't be a jerk. It won't be worth it because you'll just be blocked immediately.
4. I don't have much knowledge on gacha (prosekai, bandori, D4DJ, tapsonic) so if that's what you're looking for, then you're out of luck. Sorry.
5. We love and respect Saki Tenma in this house. Bow down to Saki. /j
and that's all!!! I hope you enjoy my blog and (hopefully) get the answers you need!

Summer Anime 2021: we take those
As delta awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into Anthony Fantano.
Magia Record S2
Tumblr media
I wasn't a fan of Magia Record, but surmised that S1 wasn't entirely worthless, so I gave S2 a shot. And early on, S2 is definitely the best version of Magireco - while it still struggled to justify its existence, at least it focused on plots that didn't point out the fundamental flaws such as the lore being both overly complicated yet fairly uninteresting, having far too many shallow characters, not to mention being an insult to PMMM. It also looked amazing, so I was ready to say that this time we got consistently entertaining pointless fanservice if nothing else. But in the back half all of the issues came back with a vengeance and the production chops evaporated. It's just a mess: The Magius story is still as bland as ever, and I still only barely care about the new main characters of Magireco, nevermind the extended cast (when I even remember them) - which is a deadly issue when that's all the content, the storytelling is borderline incoherent and even the storyboarding doesn't hold up. I suppose the PMMM cast appears more, but since this show is so all over the place they end up seeming like decoration at best. So yeah, S2 isn't actually any better than S1, even though it arguably has higher highs. 5/10
D4DJ Petit Mix
Tumblr media
I gave this a shot because I do like Bang Dream Pico a lot, and Petit Mix is uh... fine? The main issues are that it's not nearly as absurd as Garupico, and D4DJ itself being far more absurd and goofy to begin with. So Puchimiku ends up not providing much of a meaningful contrast to the main show, apart from being (more) slight and (more) random. It's still fairly enjoyable because it's more of an okay thing, but entirely forgettable - in fact, I have already forgotten about it. I guess it's just Pastel Life then. 6/10
IDOLiSH7 S3
Tumblr media
So I've been standing up for Idolshi7 for a long time, pointing out that it's probably my favorite idol franchise show overall. But I have to say, as of S3 it seems to be starting to collapse under its own weight. It's just running out of new places to go, and it can't truly escalate because the franchise concept is immutable. This is very apparent in the beginning, when we get to Yamato's story. Not because it's bad, but in a way because it's too good; it goes far harder and cranks up the drama to absurd degrees, which would be great if it didn't end with the most disappointing plot reset I've seen in a long time, when all of this "getting hallucinations and choking a bitch" business is resolved with a group hug and an offscreen phone call. After that, the spell was essentially broken. We get super detailed backstories on Re:Vale, I guess? I thought that whole business was better off as an unexplained twist, but we have to fill airtime here so we get a lot of Yuki being a dick in the past. We get yet another delightfully villanous executive, but that's nothing new and in the end it's just in service to introduce yet another band, this time consisting entirely of edgelords, and it will be interesting to see how the next sequel will attempt to make the audience like these assholes. And we get the rest of the cast just sort of sticking around doing their thing again. Now this all sounds very negative, but i7 still has extremely solid fundamentals and production chops (and it was never great at storytelling to begin with, so you take the highs where you can get them), and it's not that it doesn't try (it's honestly a miracle it even held together as long as it did), it's just increasingly turning into a case study on why Love Live's model of not sticking with a cast too long is probably the smarter way to go after all. Barely a 7/10
Shiroi Suna no Aquatope
Tumblr media
So you might be saying "hang on a minute, that show didn't end yet, what are you doing", to which I say "you clearly haven't watched it then". Aquatope's first half most definitely has an ending, and the fact that it continues for another cour is immaterial to that. The second half is basically a sequel, and since we're a fair bit into it now I can also say that it's more different than most sequels are as well - though we'll get to that when it's over. Looked at on its own, this show started as the usual P.A. Works FEEL Team Six jam, maybe just that tiny bit more interesting that made me actually watch it - The beginning is a very standard and very middle of the road "visit the countryside to get healed with magical realism" yarn, but over time it shifts from Fuuka to Kukuru and becomes more of a very concrete coming-of-age story that's actually well thought out and less predictable than expected. It also may or may not be hella gay (early signs point to hahaha yes, later signs point to hahaha no). So yeah, that ending is not only present but also very good and if the show ended right there I would not complain (if I didn't know the second half would be the true sequel to Shirobako, of course, and I'm not even joking). Still, it takes a fair bit to get there - While that path isn't exactly bad, it's also not nearly as interesting as the later stuff, relies a lot on vague sentimentality, and while the hacky fantasy aspect is always less important than you'd think, it's still there. 7/10
Vanitas no Carte
Tumblr media
Let's get straight to the point: Vanitas has one major upside and that is that it's intensely sexual. It's not only horny as fuck, but outright erotic at points, and that's not something I see often in anime. Of course sexual vampires is nothing new, but Vanitas shuffles the concept around just enough to drive the point home even harder (for starters, casual necksex among vampires is a thing here). So that's great, but what about the rest? Well... most of the time it's pretty good, with a bombastic presentation that gets a lot of humor out of absurd hamminess. But on the other hand, it also has a tendency to indulge in rote shounen plotlines, and when it does that, it just becomes a weaker Fire Force (a show that's already not great at shounen template nonsense), and its very anime humor is not always on point, an issue it also shares with Fire Force. I do like the characters (in particular Vanitas and Jeanne), but not enough to make them bickering while walking down a hallway of midbosses entirely worth it, if you know what I mean. And just in general, it tends to work better in single scenes than it does as a whole. Vanitas is wacky, wild, sensual and generally a good time, but it has structural issues that hold it back and may or may not doom it in the long run. 7/10
Sonny Boy
Tumblr media
So. How about some capital-A Arthouse? The astute reader might remember that while I approve of headier stuff in principle, in practice it seems to not work out most of the time and I was particularly dissatisfied with the recent works of Messrs. Ikuhara and Yuasa, who embody this type of work ca. 2021. Now Shingo Natsume is throwing his hat in the chinstroking ring and he definitely takes no prisoners. I will say that the list of adjectives one could apply to Sonny Boy is very impressive: I'd call it clever, visually stunning, bold, unique, creative, artistically consistent, unpredictable and confident without any hesitation. But here's the thing, despite all of that I don't think I actually like it very much. I certainly don't dislike it, which is already a massive step up from what I think about the aforementioned clowns, but I never felt a close connection to the material. This is pretty funny, because for all the coming-of-age sentimentality Natsume packs into this, it still comes across as a pretty austere and intellectual exercise to me. Of course, that's not an accident; the storytelling is intentionally vague and at points wilfully obtuse to the breaking point - Which has a surprising amount of charm by its own, but it still prevents me from relating to the characters on a more personal level, and the other avenue of appreciation (writing kiloword-length analyses of the deepest deepities at display here) is also not something I'm into. In fact I think that the latter would be outright detrimental, because Sonny Boy works far better as an abstract mood piece than any truly profound statement, which is easy to see at the occasional instance where the meaning is eyerollingly obvious. In the end, Sonny Boy actually comes with a strong recommendation from me, especially for something that could so easily have gone very wrong given the first impressions of a bunch of highschoolers Living In A Society - Though I respect it more than I like it, even if I do respect it a whole lot... so make of that what you will. It's all in your head, maaaaaaan. 7/10
Kageki Shoujo
Tumblr media
And again with the shows that only really have one selling point, but what a selling point it is. The main character of Kageki Shoujo, Sarasa, is such a fluffy, lovable and T A L L (like, so tall) goof that nothing else in the show hardly even matters. Well, she's not on screen 100% of the time, so I'll have to look further anyway. So incredible lead (and her sidekick Ai, an almost-Adachi whose dork tendencies are also adorable most of the time) aside, what is there to Kageki Shoujo? Eh, it's alright. A Marimite-lite mixed with a generic competition slash doing ur best storyline that's perfectly functional but pretty shallow and held back by tonal missteps. In particular, early on the show goes to a couple of fairly grim places - which I don't necessarily have an issue with, but it treats them so superficially that all it achieves is needlessly harshing the buzz. It also curiously insists that the school is a cutthroat hive of scum and villainy which isn't really borne out by much of what we get to see. Plus, it also has a spectacular non-ending (the least ending of any show this season, especially compared to Aquatope's dark horse "most ending" title), which may be fixed in a potential sequel but doesn't help at all right now. But hey. Sarasa. SARASA. (And also Ai). 7/10
Love Live Superstar
Tumblr media
Heyyyyy, it's Love Live. Yeah, it's the winner by default. Who'da thunk it? The focus on a smaller cast, general disregard for the mobile game roots and focus on the "core" appeal of Love Live as a narrative may make Superstar the best iteration of Love Live yet, but make no mistake: Even if it is, the difference is negligible. This is exactly what I said about Nijigaku, because Superstar deviates from "baseline" Love Live just as much (or rather, little) - just in the opposite direction. But again, this is all minutiae that only people who already watched this would ever care about. The characters are still really nice (and the smaller cast leads to more interplay, which is even nicer, especially when it's Keke and Sumire antagonizing each other), the comedy antics are still fun as hell, and the big sappy drama is still impossible to dislike. But there's also still a number of curious plot dead ends like the school being in danger of closing after all (which is anticlimatically resolved by Dad Ex Machina, making the whole subplot a distraction at best), and none of this is anything remotely new. The one thing that's not opposed from Nijigaku is sadly the production value, since Superstar is also surprisingly cheap for an allegedly premium product (apart from the CG music videos, which still continue to get better and better). I will say that Superstar is probably the best starting point for someone new to the franchise, because it just looks the most respectable on paper and seems somewhat easier to get aboard with, even if that doesn't make much of a difference to the end result. The ultimate question is: Can Love Live ever exceed the 7? I think it's possible, but not this time. 7/10

Merm4id Unit Story - Chapter 1
And here’s my first translation post! I’m kicking this blog off with translating the unit story for Merm4id in the D4DJ Groovy Mix app. This is my first time trying to translate an entire story (up until now I only did little introduction translations and small convos), so I’m sorry for any mistakes, typos, or anything worded weirdly!
Translation below the cut, hope you enjoy!
*Please don’t repost my translations or claim as your own! Thank you.
Chapter 1: A DJ's Dream Paradise
========================
-Seihou University-
Tumblr media
Rika: Ugh, my head hurts... I'm beat... I went overboard yesterday...
Marika: Ah, there she is.
Marika: Oi, Rikacchi~
Rika: Good morning, Marika. Today seems to be the same as always, huh.
Marika: Rika looks like she's about to die any second now. You also slept through most of the lecture earlier.
Marika: As expected, it's because you pulled an all-nighter yesterday?
Rika: Pulling an all-nighter wasn't a good idea, huh...
Rika: But even so, I still came to school! Praise me~
Marika: Yup, Rika is a good girl. You can't miss any of today's lectures after all.
Marika: What are you doing after this? You look like you've already hit your limit.
Rika: I probably should go back home and sleep... Marika, do you have a modelling job after this?
Marika: That's right. I have a photoshooting session for a magazine today.
Marika: It'll be published right after I'm done. I'm planning on having a sweets buffet to celebrate.
Rika: That's amazing!
Rika: I want to try doing something showy as well. Like partying in the southern islands with all my might.
Marika: The southern islands sound nice.
Rika: I want to live there, not travel. Living in a tropical region is the best, isn't it?
Marika: Yup, yup! I want to try living like that!
Rika: I wanna make that real someday~ Though, I don't really have a chance like that. Ah...
Marika: Rika? What's wrong?
Rika: ...It sounds like a crazy dream, but I might actually be able to pull it off.
Rika: Marika, this flyer! It says they're looking to recruit an exclusive DJ at a Resort Hotel in Tokonatsu Island!
Marika: Huh? Let me see...
Marika: "The contest's winners will be hired to work at the hotel's newly established Clubhouse as the exclusive DJ."
Marika: Working as a DJ while living in a resort hotel? Amazing!
Rika: There's no way we can pass this up! And of course, you're coming with me!
Marika: Yup, I thought you'd say that. If I'm with Rika, then it's fine.
Rika: Alright, then it's decided! By the way, DJs are definitely "that", right?
Rika: Those that I've seen several times at parties! They played a bunch of cool songs in a row!
Marika: It seems pretty difficult, doesn't it? I wonder if we'll be able to do it...?
Rika: Well, it'll work out one way or another! Let's think about it after we try!
Rika: Wait for me, resort hotel!
Tumblr media
-Club-
Club customer A: Hey hey, look at this! It says there's a resort hotel looking to hire an exclusive DJ!
Club customer B: But they're looking to hire the winner of a DJ contest, right? It's impossible unless you're a pro.
Club customer A: That's true. This is another one of those unreachable dreams, isn't it.
Tumblr media
???: An impossible dream... That's right
???: Looking at the DJ booth from below like this, it really is a place that I don't belong in...
???: I'm going home...
Tumblr media
???: I wonder what's up with that girl? I was looking at the pamphlet for a while...
???: Exclusive DJ at a resort hotel... This is it
???: It's a difficult goal, but if I can make it there, it'd be the coolest thing...
========================
T/N: Tokonatsu "常夏" means everlasting summer. I could've chosen to call it "Everlasting Summer Island", but... Somehow doesn't sound like a real place

What I’m Watching - Fall 2020
Oh it’s another one of these, woohoo.
Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club - Tops the list since I’m anticipating it the most.
Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? Bloom - Likewise, super excited for this.
Jujutsu Kaisen - See no reason to not watch the big probably massively overhyped new shounen I likely won’t care about.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (2020) - Apparently this is a re-adaptation so I can get away with watching it having never seen any of the other Higurashi anime. Good enough for me.
Tonikaku Kawaii - Girl looks cute and is voiced by Akari Kitou.
Noblesse - I watched the other two Crunchy manhwa.
Kamisama ni Natta hi - New Key thing, sure, that’s interesting enough. Girl’s cute and is Ayane Sakura too.
Majo no Tabitabi - I think this got announced quite a while back and I’ve been really anticipating it just because going off of everything we know about this so far it seems like something I’d adore.
Adachi to Shimamura - Yuri poggers.
Ikebukuro West Gate Park - Sounds pretty interesting, apparently this is a pretty well beloved Japanese novel, and also it’s Doga Kobo, you know the cute girl dudes, so I wanna see what they do with this crime drama thing.
Akudama Drive - Honestly it doesn’t sound especially interesting but I watched the PV and it looked really good so why not.
Assault Lily: Bouquet - Also one that got announced a while back and I’ve been really anticipating, love the character designs, really love the thighs, and they’re magical girls too, and also it’s Shaft. Pretty exciting.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear - Cute girls.
Iwa Kakeru!: Sport Climbing Girls - Cute girls with actual muscle? Sounds perfect. Actually I’ve seen the PV and it kinda looked like dog shit, but, the girls are still cute I guess.
Maoujou de Oyasumi - Looks and sounds cute, Inori Minase, Doga Kobo.
Munou na Nana - I can see myself dropping this really early but main girl is cute and that’s enough for me.
Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima - This is obviously some bishie boy fujo bait bullshit that I probably won’t be able to stand but the fact that they’re rapping has me interested.
Senyoku no Sigrdrifa - Girls look cute, I’ve not really explored the “cute girls in planes or other military vehicles” genre, why not start now.
Taiso Samurai - Sounds like it could be alright, there’s some cute girl on the key visual who I already love.
Ochikobore Fruit Tart - Cute idol girls, my fucking jam.
Rail Romanesque - Hence just Maitetsu, I’m watching this entirely because the character designs, specifically main girl, are fucking adorable. But also it’s got a fucking banging cast.
A3! Season Autumn & Winter - I’ve seen the rest of the show.
Maesetsu - Cute girls.
D4DJ: First Mix - I watch all the Bushimo multimedia shit.
Haha what the fuck this is too many anime.

INTERVIEW: D4DJ Voice Actors Yuka Nishio, Aimi, and Risa Tsumugi
Tumblr media
Danni Wilmoth contributed to this article.
Everyone has wanted to be a DJ at least once in their life. Just imagining yourself up on stage in front of the bright lights and bumping crowds knowing full well one flick of your wrist can set them reeling is enough to get the heart pumping. Odds are most of us will never get to be a DJ, though. Thankfully, anime has got us covered with D4DJ First Mix, this season’s hottest (and only) show about becoming the most show-stopping, pulse-pounding DJ there is!
D4DJ First Mix focuses on Rinku Aimoto, a high school girl returning to Japan from abroad. She transfers to Yoba Academy, where DJing turns out to be quite a popular activity. After attending a set on campus and falling in love with the world of DJs, Rinku gathers her friends to start their own DJ group called Happy Around!
After the premiere, we caught up with actresses Yuka Nishio (the voice of Rinku Aimoto) Aimi (the voice of Kyoko Yamate) and Risa Tsumugi (the voice of Saki Izumo) from the show to talk about the characters they play, preparing for their roles, and what they like most about the DJ lifestyle.
Tumblr media
To start off, could you introduce yourself and your characters?
Yuka Nishio: I’m Yuka Nishio and I’m the voice of Rinku Aimoto from Happy Around! Rinku can sometimes be seen as an oddball by others since she is from an island filled with wilderness in Africa. Rinku is extremely bright and cheerful, like the sun that gives energy to everyone, and also like a storm that pulls everybody around her into whatever she’s interested in.
Aimi: Hello everyone. I’m Aimi and I voice Kyoko Yamate. Kyoko is the vocalist of Peaky P-key and is a cool charismatic girl.
Risa Tsumugi: Hi! I’m Risa Tsumugi and I voice Saki Izumo! Saki-chan is… if I describe her in one word, the universe. Her interaction with the big sisters in Photon Maiden who support her warmly is very cute!
Tumblr media
Please tell us the most charming part of your character.
Nishio: Rinku’s charm is that you just can’t hate her regardless of her lack of common sense, and her extremely cheerful nature due to growing up in the wilderness!
Aimi: Kyoko spares no effort to improve her music and is strict with herself, but she shows smiles to her friends often. That character gap is her charm.
Tsumugi: Saki is just so adorable! Please excuse me from being agonized by her cuteness every time I play her. (Laughs) Even though she appears to be a person with common sense, she can be odd and goofy sometimes. However, her style on the stage is totally different from how she usually is, which is her charm. She also has “synesthesia” so please take notice of that part of her as well!
Tumblr media
D4DJ First Mix released the first episode on October 22nd for early streaming. Are there any scenes from the 1st episode that was memorable to you? Are there any parts that the fans should pay special attention to?
Nishio: The scene where Rinku learns how to DJ from Maho was a memorable scene for me. Maho shows Rinku how to DJ, and she explains it as well so the audience can also understand what a DJ does, so please take a close look at that scene! Another scene would be the one right after that where Rinku senses that “WOW WAR TONIGHT” is coming up next; it was also a memorable scene to me since I have similar experiences often.
Aimi: The concert scene with Peaky P-key! It was so lively! I felt the excitement and couldn’t stop myself from dancing! I want everyone to watch it again and again!
Tsumugi: The first episode was already very “Happy Around!” like! (Laugh) I love their energy and how lively they are. The opening song is filled with their energy, and I love it! I also sing in the opening for a little bit as Saki with Kyoko-san, and their relationship is so precious…so please enjoy the opening song as well!
Tumblr media
“DJ” is the theme of D4DJ. What kind of impression do you have about DJ's? Was there any change to your impression before and after joining the project?
Nishio: My impression of DJ’s didn’t change since I used to DJ at a club before joining D4DJ. However, clubs had an intimidating impression for me since I thought it would be full of party people before I started DJing. Now, DJing is a fun tool to share our favorite music and to enjoy music indefinitely by mixing and arranging!
Aimi: I didn’t have much knowledge about DJs before, but I got to feel how limitless music is! There are no restrictions to the performances, so I enjoy trying different methods to create exciting concerts!
Tsumugi: Since I also play a role as a DJ in a different title, I appreciated the joy of DJing through my role again. In the beginning, I was wondering “what does a DJ do?”, so I hope more people will know about the DJs through D4DJ!
Tumblr media
When playing your character in the anime, is there anything you prepare in advance?
Nishio: Rinku is usually full of energy and excitement, so I uplift my mood as well before I play her by listening to my favorite songs or by running to physically energize myself.
Aimi: Kyoko is a role that requires convincing dance skills and high-level performances, so I started with building my stamina. I’m going to try my best to create her charismatic atmosphere!
Tsumugi: Actually, I had recorded for “D4DJ Groovy Mix” before the recording for the anime, so I was able to go into the role smoothly compared to back then. When I play her, I’m extra careful about not faking her cuteness. Saki has this pure and natural cuteness, so I try not to break that image of her.
Tumblr media
Please tell us what you hope for the fans to expect in the future development after the 1st episode from your own perspective.
Nishio: All the members will be gathered and Happy Around! will be formed. Please look forward to how Happy Around! will grow, and how they build their friendship. There are concert scenes in each episode, so that’s also something to look forward to as well!
Aimi: In the first episode, the story of HapiAra-chan (*Happy Around!) excited me all the way from the beginning to the end. I think Kyoko felt the same way. Please look forward to how the members of Peaky P-key will come into the story!
Tsumugi: Please make sure to check out when and how Photon Maiden will be involved in the story, and how they will interact with HapiAra-san (Happy Around!) I suppose the key point is that Photon Maiden is a unique group since it has a producer and the members were selected from an audition!
Tumblr media
The official YouTube channel is streaming D4DJ First Mix with subtitles in 7 languages, and anime fans all over the world are watching. Is there anything you would like to tell the overseas fans?
Nishio: Please enjoy D4DJ through the anime and also its music! D4DJ original songs are allowed for everyone to remix and upload, so I’m looking forward to listening to everyone’s remixes! (Note: Please refer to the official website for the regulations on the usage of D4DJ original music.)
Aimi: We will try our best to deliver the music of D4DJ to the world! I promise the best music and the best time at the live concert, so please come see us one day!
Tsumugi: WOW!! Hello everyone!!! I’m really happy that many people from different countries know and are watching D4DJ!! Anime, concerts, games and more are coming out, so check them out now!!

D4DJ First Mix Anime Review
Tumblr media
I just review this anime last week, and I like it more than Bang Dream. Both Franchises are made from the same company, Bushiroad. I did a reaction to Bang Dream for episode one in my other post. I didn’t finish the other episodes, because it didn’t interest as me as much. I’ll tell my thoughts, and how I feel about D4DJ First Mix.
Plot
For those who don’t know what D4DJ, it is originally a rhythm tap game where you can listen to techno music. Similar like piano tiles, but a notch higher. Their theme is mostly DJ music. So, it starts with a energetic girl name Rinku Aimoto. She just came back from Africa, and is excited to come back to Japan. One day, she heard a similar song that she heard when she was young. Inside the music room, there was a girl name Maho Akashi. Rinku couldn’t help her excitement, and interrupted the song Maho put up. They talked about the song and DJs. Rinku didn’t know what are DJs, so Mahou showed a performance of a famous DJ group, Peaky P Key. After their performance, Rinku wanted to do something similar to them. Now Rinku starts to meet new people, and form Happy Around.
Characters
Rinku Aimoto
Similar to Kasumi Toyama, Rinku is energetic and happy go lucky. She rarely get sad, and loves music. When she gets hyped up, she spins around. Rinku also have a fond of food, and eats in a unique way when mad. I love how she really friendly with people and you can’t help, but love her. Sometimes when she has too much energy, she has the ability to run really fast. She is an interesting protagonist to start with. Her role in the group is dancing, and vocals.
Maho Akashi
Maho is the DJ of the group. She is responsible, and hardworking. I learned some things about how to DJ. Even though some things looks simple, it feels hard to me. Maho loves cooking also. I remember in the series she cooked beef stew with high quality meat. My mouth was watering when I saw the beef stew. She looks like the type who would be a good leader.
Muni Ohnatuto
I actually was suspicious of this character. I was thinking if she was evil or not. When Rinku recognizes her as her childhood friend, I felt relieve that she wasn’t evil. Her role is vocals and VJ. It’s similar to a DJ. They just have to make creative backgrounds that goes with the music. Muni is not your typical all cute character. She acts a little arrogant, and a little bit of tsundereness. But that makes her interesting as a characters anyway. I love this tsundere bunny.
Rei Togetsu
She is literally an angel that must be protected at all cost. She can a little naive when it comes to an average girl life, but she is really supportive. Her gentle and kind attitude is why people love her. I really love the interaction with her and Muni. Her role in the group is playing the keyboard, and vocals.
Other Characters
There were other groups like Peakek P Key and Photon Maiden. There were the only groups that was active til the end of the anime series. Of course, some other groups got only a cameo appearance. In the two groups I mentioned, some of them some character development. Saki and Ibuki were able to find their own music, while Kyoko and Shinobu were able to help guide Happy Around. It was a cute sequence. The other characters in Phonton Maiden or Peakey P Key we didn’t know much about. It was really disappointing to me that the character I like didn’t show it in the anime. Take Noa for example. She acted like a cool and friendly member of Phonton Maiden, but I found out recently that she has a fondness of cute things. She doesn’t hide it like she does in the anime. In conclusion, I love the side characters, but wish to see more of it.
Songs
Songs play a big role in a music anime. I prefer if I know the song than hear it the first time, and then forget it. The songs for me were great. My favorite out the three would be Peakey P Key. It was supported Aimi’s talented voice(Kyoko’s VA) and Melodies that wound pump you up.Happy Around was my second favorite. Their songs are what represents them. They would always change it up, and the song will show development in them. Phonton Maiden was okay by. All I remember is Here The Light and Akatsuki Fruits Mix. The background sounds amazing though. The opening and ending were great also. I recommend if you listen to the opening of you like DJ type of music.
Final Thoughts
To be honest, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy D4DJ. I tried to watch Bang Dream the first season, and immediately felt like giving up. Even though they share the same similarities, there some key elements that stood out to me. I guess the pacing, and visual designs is what made me intrigued. I did not regret watching this, and am blessed that I get to listen to new songs.

the d4 yaoi yuri explanation post time yayyyyy!!!! this post and this poll will explain why this is happening btw.
there are heavy spoilers for persona 2, revue starlight, revue of souls (thing from the movie), roselia's 1st band story as well as semi-general spoilers for the side nova, side origin of rondo, rondo's 1st unit story and a little bit of d4dj first mix!)
before you say anything, yaoi and yuri are not based on gender, even though the examples im using are two boy couples and two girl couples. the word count is also 2,081 words so if u genuinely are curious, please continue reading!
im doing yaoi first to make my life easier, then yuri, yuriyaoi, and then yaoiyuri.
my example for yaoi is not the more popular one (sasu.naru/naru.sasu) but these two!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these two ^ are kyo (one on the left) and iori (one on the right looking gay rlly gay) from the kof franchise!
theyre fated to be rivals because of their clans, but they fight for their own personal reasons. iori is obsessed w kyo, you see. to the point that when he could stop having fire powers that are connected to his curse -- a curse that will make him die very young and every woman of the clan upon giving birth will die-- he decided to not do that and keep it so he can kill kyo. iori doesnt like violence, but when it comes to kyo? he has exceptions.
kyo is also semi not normal about iori. iori almost died twice, and during those two times, kyo brought him back to life with his flames in the manga and manhwa even though he says it's a pain. iori has many nightmares about kyo, most of which involves him being friends with kyo.
also there's this:
Tumblr media
everyone in the game, even the newcomers, notice how obsessed kyo and iori are with each other. even characters that haven't been in the game for a while.
this is why neosophi is like these two (at the beginning. the obsession, the want of wanting the other to live because you cant live without them (sophia) and the fact that the other wants to be friends with the other deep down (neo).
thanks to the latest abyssmare event in en, theyre starting to lean to yuri rather than yaoi, but they still have many things to work out, so im keeping this. the real yaoi relationship in d4 is actually weronika and neo but w these 4 ships the most yaoi one has to be neosophi, sorry.
now, onto the yuri !!
the examples i could be using are so many, but i decided to go with these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ yukina (left) and lisa (right) from bandori!!
some of you probably know their relationship but for the people who don't know, lisa and yukina are childhood friends. yukina is the leader, composer and vocalist of roselia, while lisa is the bassist. the both of them understand each other so well yet they have difficulty opening up to each other at the beginning. nowadays, they have good communication and can tell when the other is upset or struggling with something, lisa makes sure that yukina is okay and yukina does the same for her.
yet again, theyre childhood friends so their fates feel almost intertwined, like they were always meant to be together. yukina has even said once that she feels that lisa was fated to be part of roselia, even though lisa quit bass at first.
hayakoko is very much like them (from what we know abt their relationship the moment), they both understand each other like no one else because out of everyone in their group they know each other the most and got closer (and was almost separated) because of music. they make sure the other is okay and feels safe.
now that i've explained how yaoi and yuri are (to me), it's time for yuriyaoi and yaoiyuri!
first, the difference! yuriyaoi is when there are more yuri elements than yaoi elements, while yaoiyuri is when there are more yaoi elements than yuri. both of them NEED to have elements of both for you to classify it as either! but sometimes if the relationship has an equal amount of yuri and yaoi elements, then it's okay to use them interchangeably, it just needs to specifically have the same amount of yuri and yaoi elements in the relationship.
something i have changed from that post is that i made tsubaoi yuriyaoi rather than kyoshino, which is because they both have the same amount of elements of yuri and yaoi. (and are most alike compared to neosophi and hayakoko)
so, enough stalling, first up is yuriyaoi!
my example for yuriyaoi is actually these two guys from the persona series! (i could make an actual post of just them and it hurts that im condensing so much of their relationship, so if you would like to know more about these two, just play the game.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ their names are tatsuya (silly w the brown hair) and jun (the one w the bangs and is smiling so nicely)
jun and tatsuya are childhood friends that lost contact with each other because of events in the game. they are both literal parallels to each other in that they are "shadows" to each other, look similar to each other and their stories are similar (they have papa issues). but they are also opposites. jun is very soft, gentle and emotive while tatsuya is rough-looking, intense and because he is the protag for p2 he is a silent protagonist.
even with tatsuya's rough exterior he is very kind, is a bit awkward when interacting with people, and is willing to do anything for his friends. jun is good with science and astrology, while tatsuya is good at physical education (specifically sprinting). they also both exchanged treasures to each other. jun gave tatsuya his father's lighter, while tatsuya gave jun the watch his father gifted him. there was this one part in the game, where one of the characters pointed out how they are alike which made jun embarrassed but happy about it.
at the near end of the game, if you know the persona lore, there are things called shadows -- a side of someone that they dislike about themselves -- and main characters needed to fight that version of themselves. when they faced tatsuya's shadow, he taunted tatsuya and said that he hated jun. there is a choice to say if you hate jun or not, but canonically tatsuya doesnt hate jun, which is evident in eternal punishment (the other persona 2 game). it's the same as well for jun. they hate the side of themselves that tells them that they should hate the other, which causes some sort of conflict between them that is resolved based on what you say when one of the characters asked tatsuya which one of them that he likes.
if u choose jun, they will be lovers, but even if the relationship status was 'best friends', the dialogue in their contact (the first image) for them would be the same even when they are lovers. it shows that tatsuya and jun are very passionate for each other no matter their relationship, lovers or not.
now. how this kind of yuriyaoi is like tsubaki and aoi. both tsubaki and aoi have parallels to each other. tsubaki is a girl that struggles with how she sees herself and her worth like aoi, but instead of her looks it's with her singing. both tsubaki and aoi are good at singing and djing respectively, the other noticing and loving that fact about each other, but singing and djing are opposites in a way (like w jun and his love of science and tatsuya with his skill with sprinting). because with singing, all the attention is focused on you, while for djing you are almost invisible to those around.
they are, too, opposites in terms of personality, aoi is very kind, gentle and patient. while for tsubaki, she can be quite intense and brash sometimes, but is simply just awkward and has difficulty with talking to people. tsubaki can be very kind to those that she trusts and keeps her friends close to her heart and aoi does as well. tsubaki and aoi did not exchange treasures like tatsu.jun, but they did exchange words that are like it. in side origin rondo, at the part with aoi talking to a "shadow" of herself, that side of herself tells her that tsubaki, hiiro and nagisa dont care about her anymore and that she should too (similar to jun and tatsuya's shadows telling them to hate each other) before tsubaki reaches out and saying otherwise. at the first rondo unit story, aoi did the same for tsubaki as well, that reaching out being the entire reasoning rondo is rondo.
and so! before i start making this post about tsubaoi and tsubaoi only, onto yaoiyuri!
my yaoiyuri example was difficult to get because it required that it had more yaoi elements than yuri and it was not another male couple (it also had to be similar to kyoshino), but after a few seconds of thinking, i came to the conclusion to use these two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this ^ is tendo maya (brunette) and saijou claudine (blonde) from revue starlight!
im sure some of you have heard of these two idiots, but i'll explain to those who are unaware, maya and claudine are rivals. claudine is an ex-child actress while maya comes from a family of famous actors. both of them are in the same class (both top students) and are partners in everything theater pretty much. now you must ask, where is the rivalry aspect? well, claudine keeps on challenging maya all the time in some way. in eating (who gets to eat first), in acting (look at the quote for the first image) in the underground fight club for stage girls and many more!
the reason for this rivalry was that claudine didn't really know how amazing maya was properly at first until she got humbled by maya's abilities in the audition to their school and decided that she needed to be on the same level as her, causing claudine to be the only one out of the entire class to be around the same level as maya. claudine always challenges maya and the other does not mind it, in fact, she loves it. every single time claudine challenges her, maya returns with the same amount of passion for it, causing the both of them to become better as stage girls because they keep pushing each other to their limits.
in the movie, there is these revues (search up the definition pls--) for certain pairs, one of them being these two. their revue is about claudine being a devil making a deal with maya, who is a "vessel of god", to show her a performance no one has ever seen before. during the entire revue for these two, maya says that she is perfection and that she is not a human, but at the middle point, claudine points out how prideful and arrogant maya is, showing that she is human. because of this, this causes maya to get angry at claudine and let their true battle begin. cue the homoerotic sword fighting, the faces being milimeters away from each other and really gay lines that are questionable at best. near the end, they say this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and maya loses and says that claudine is beautiful, implying that the beautiful performance that no one has ever seen before is claudine because people focus on maya so much they dont notice claudine's accomplishments. their revue ends with the both of them promising each other to keep on being rivals until the end.
so, how does this flavor of yaoiyuri fit kyoshino? well -- it's a bit obvious -- but kyoko and shinobu are rivals as well. both of them are admirers of each other because of how skilled they are in music (like how maya and claudine admire each other for their skills in acting). both of them (shinobu and maya) are arrogant w their abilities to the point that if they do something they are unfamiliar with they get flustered easily. when the other (kyoko and claudine) first met them, they thought they were on the same level until the other (shinobu and maya) humbled them which started their rivalry.
shinobu and kyoko both challenge each other in song-making and songwriting to better each other because theyre the only ones who are on the same level as them in those abilities. they also just, yk, challenge each other in general i think.
so, this is the end of the d4dj yaoi/yuri post explanation! i hope u all enjoyed reading until the very end! i would like to thank all of those yuki.lisa posts i read in my free time that opened me to how crazy those girls were, my older sibling playing p2 and going insane over tatsu.jun, my older sibling playing fighting games and me checking out those stage girls!

OPINION: Farewell, My Dear Cramer's Soccer Team Is Bad (And That's Good)
Everyone loves rooting for the underdog, and there's no better genre in anime for that than sports. From watching Hinata jump his way to the top in Haikyu!! despite his height to seeing Sena zip through his opponents to victory in Eyeshield 21, sports anime captures that feeling of a satisfying, hard-earned victory. Even in shows where the protagonist is traditionally skilled in their field, like Hajime no Ippo's Ippo, challenges still arise for them to inevitably overcome with guts and determination. While losses happen, we all know what we want in the end, and what we'll get one way or the other: victory.
Not in Farewell, My Dear Cramer, though. No, the girls' soccer team at Warabi Seinan High School kind of sucks right now. And you know what? That’s alright. There’s more to competition than winning.
For the unacquainted, Farewell, My Dear Cramer follows a handful of middle school soccer talents as they decide to attend Warabi, a school with a notoriously bad girls' team. Just before the start of the series, in fact, Warabi had suffered a rather embarrassing loss, so devastating that most of the team just up and quit, including every single second-year. That means as Midori Shosizaki and friends are entering the team, there are no seniors — even the captain herself is only a second-year. Morale is low and skill is nowhere to be found, but the freshman girls make it their mission to fix up the disgraced team.
They lose their first practice game — which only emboldens the girls to try harder at improving the team. This is where the series really seems to get the experience of competition: for most people, it's an eternal uphill struggle. They have a talented coach, but his apathy after their failure keeps him from really trying to improve the team. The school has a good boys' soccer team and potentially even amenities, but they are kept from those resources because the school would rather foster known successes, to the point that the boys' coach claims that letting the two teams practice together would actively harm the boys' development. What's a girl supposed to do?
Speaking from experience, roadblocks like that are an unfortunate but real part of competition. I didn't exactly grow up wealthy and wasn't a natural-born athletic talent, so if I wanted to even participate, I had to work for it. Scraping together money for equipment and finding the places I could practice my swing are memories from childhood that come to mind when watching the Warabi girls struggle in Cramer.
While I didn't stick with sports forever, I'm a competitive person at heart, and later discovered the joys of competitive trading cards with games like Yu-Gi-Oh!. Anyone who has played will tell you it ain't cheap to keep up with the meta — something I can attest to for sure. As welcoming as some communities can be, there always seems to be an old boys club that knows all the ins and outs and tests their decks together — another hurdle to jump when you're new and trying to find your footing.
Still, I persevered, and what I gained from that experience of even trying is more valuable than any tournament I topped or prizes I won. Finding like-minded individuals in similar situations introduced me to some lifelong friends. Late nights spent testing in hotel rooms and crashing at each other's houses before a big event are memorable not just because of the rewarding ways we improved each other at the game, but also the ways we grew as people by pushing our limits together. Cards were expensive, but we learned how to get creative with our resources to turn prizes from winning one event into the cards and gas money we needed to compete in the next one. It was a precarious cycle, but it was one sustained entirely by our passion and effort, which is something we could take with us into every endeavor we would ever take on, not just card game tournaments.
So when the Warabi girls put their heads together to find ways to keep competing and improving even when the world seems to have given up on them, it feels like the anime has a very real understanding of those hidden merits of competition. When they're told they can't practice with the boys' team, Midori finds an unconventional futsal tournament for them to compete in. This even serves another purpose, as placing well in the tournament earns them some money, another resource they otherwise wouldn't have. They use the money to buy themselves nicer-looking uniforms, which helps them feel more confident in themselves.
One thing leads to another, and that leads to yet another, and while no single achievement solves all of their problems, each gets them closer in its own way to their ultimate goal of improving their team and participating in a real tournament. What they don't realize yet is that their goal, while admirable, is hardly the most important thing they're gaining from this experience. Each of the girls is slowly opening up as the story unfolds, becoming more confident and comfortable with themselves as they work together to achieve a common goal. Improvement at the actual game continues to come slow; they have played some official matches, and there are plenty of stumbles and clumsy mistakes to be found, despite the new uniforms and other successes.
While I loved competing, I was never a world champion at anything. Years later, that doesn’t matter to me, because with hindsight I know so much more mattered from that effort than the literal results. That’s why I find Farewell, My Dear Cramer engaging — it understands that perspective perfectly. While Warabi has newfound talent, it's still ultimately a show about a girls’ soccer team that’s kind of bad. It is noted a few times how much potential some of the girls have, but hardly any of that potential has actually bubbled to the surface. Instead, Farewell, My Dear Cramer is about something more true to life than abstract concepts like "talent" — a group of girls trying their best to be their best, achieving small goals along the way, and becoming better versions of themselves, on and off the soccer field. It's a show where it's OK to lose, where the value in effort is entirely in the effort itself.

Fullmetal Alchemist Director Seiji Mizushima Helms D4DJ Anime for Bushiroad at Sanjigen
54-year-old acclaimed anime director Seiji Mizushima (Fullmetal Alchemist, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) will direct an anime for Bushiroad's DJ-themed new mixed-media project D4DJ. 3DCG studio Sanjigen (Arpeggio of Blue Steel -Ars Nova-, BanG Dream! 2nd&3rd season) works on anime production. The news was revealed at the "D4DJ D4 FES. -Departure-" event held at TOKYO DOME CITY HALL on January 31, 2020.

D4DJ Unveils More DJ Idol Girls, Announces Third Live
Bushiroad's new mixed media project D4DJ is kicking into high gear with five of its six DJ teams announced!
Previously, two groups—Happy Around! and Peaky P-key—were revealed, with their real-world members showing off their skills in live concerts. Three more teams have joined the growing group, which will be featured in an anime, game, further concerts, and more.
First off, check out the original two's unique looks. Happy Around! has a very cute idol theme going:
Meanwhile, Peaky P-key has a cool streetwear style:
Now, on to the new groups. First up is Photon Maiden, who look to have a cyber-idol style reminiscent of Vocaloid:
Merm4id has a beachy, tropical look:
And Rondo look like they're going to be the Roselia of the squad, with a romantic, gothic aesthetic:
Each group has its own unique sound that matches its aesthetic, as shown by samples of the first singles from the project: "Dig Delight!" by Happy Around!, and "Denran Countdown" by Peaky P-key:

D4DJ Reveals Its New DJ Idols, Teases 4 More Groups
Bushiroad has finally revealed the eight stars of upcoming mixed media project D4DJ... and then teased us with my mysterious silhouettes!
The first pairs of four are designed by artist and designer Yache, who has previously created work for Vocaloid videos on Nico Nico:
Nothing else has been revealed about the eight characters yet, though it's worth noting they all have the same school uniform. Is it safe to assume that, like Love Live! and BanG Dream!, we're looking at a school setting?
These girls aren't the only DJs in the game, though. Four more sets of four are now being teased:
All will be revealed—we assume—at the first D4DJ live, taking place July 20 and 21.
