Hello!! I've been a fan of your art and writing for a while now, and I wanted you to know your works a big inspiration and comfort to me!! Anywho, thoughts on Davebot and Commander Vantas :]
Tumblr media
first of all, wow, thank you so much!! that’s so kind <3
mkay so...
the thing is,
sigh. so. okay.
okay listen—
OKAY THE FIRST THING I GOTTA SAY, and I mean this ought to go *without* saying but I’m still just going to say it: this is all JUST MY OPINION!! it’s subjective, I’m not saying other people are wrong just bc we may happen to disagree about this!
TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, though, I only really engage with “beyond canon” or “dubious canon” or “post-canon” content in the way I’m doing right here, which is to say, drawing silly requests to dress up CKat as Hatsune Miku or whatever. or sometimes drawing something featuring meat or candy DaveKat specifically for my dear friend bug, who loves the epilogues and HS2, and still has a lot of hope for a happy DaveKat ending in *both* timelines. (love you bug, love your optimism, and I hope for your sake that HS2 doesn’t disappoint!)
because **MY** opinion of all that is that it sucks and shouldn’t exist, lol. sorry!! I hate its very existence! I ignore it and I mostly avoid it because it upsets me deeply, and I only engage (very shallowly) with the elements I can fully get behind, which usually means “cool outfits” or “cool designs.” Davebot looks real cool, man! that’s about all I can say about him without wanting to vomit!! his very existence makes me sad as fuck and I hate it, idk what else to tell you. I hate that even though that story goes out of its way to point out how non-canon it is, just by nature of being an officially sanctioned product it kinda IS canon, and the fans sure treat it that way, and I’m not even saying they’re wrong. if Hussie wanted the epilogues to actually be treated like fanfic maybe they shouldn’t’ve attached their name, man, idk.
anyway, I know drawing CKat and Davebot as just silly little guys without actually fully engaging with/reading post-canon sorta makes me part of “the problem,” like those “fans” of Homestuck who don’t understand it at all bc they HAVEN’T READ IT yet insist on making art about it that misunderstands the characters? but tbh I just don’t like or respect post-canon stuff in the same way I like and respect the original work. to me it is fanfic, and not even like a good one that I would bookmark or download a PDF of, lol. sorry if this disappoints you! I still think the designs are cool ✌️

Thoughts on
Katie and Sadie
Mike
Trent
Dakota
and Sierra?
katie and sadie -
they have very little screentime so i don’t have much to say about them. i have definetly seen a lot of girls like them, but that was usually when i was primary school age, not as a teenager. at times they can be really annoying, but their friendship can be pretty wholesome at times. reminds me of how attached i was to my friends at… well, not their age. there’s nothing really bad about them, but not much good either? really indifferent about them.
mike -
fresh tv did NOT know how to write a character with a mental disorder… besides the bad representation, i think mike is a pretty nice guy! i love silly-with-a-hint-of-mental-disorder characters like him. he’s one of the better characters from gen 2, and he’s… sweet? that’s how i’m going to word it. also. i‘m going to say it right here. i LOVE svetlana (or swjetłana, as they call her in the Polish dub). my favourite alter (i think that’s the term?) of his. totally not just because she’s slavic and i crave representation, she’s just a very fun character and a very skilled gymnast! i also like vito. he’s cool. very unfortunate what they did with mike in ass stars!
trent -
trent is a very interesting character. i could go on for ages, analysing his behaviours, figuring out his past traumas and what caused him to end up the way he is. there is so much to talk about with trent! that’s why i love trentcourse: it’s just a bunch of people talking about this guy!! he’s a sweetheart. his chill, coolheaded, and a really kind person. he’s not made much real enemies, and. ugh. i love his relationship with gwen. just,,,,, so pure. action kinda fucked him up a little bit, but in a way it gave him a bit of depth? my personal theory on why he kinda just. snapped was that since action started so early after island, he hadn’t gotten the chance to pack enough meds, and anyone who’s needed to take any sort of medication for that kind of thing will probably know that if you’re going to go off of medication/start taking medication, you need to do it gradually, and that’s for a good reason!!!!!! anyways i love trent. he and cody are the traumatised boyfriends.
dakota -
I LOVE LOVE LOVE DAKOTA!!!!!! SHE’S SO FUCKING SILLY. genuinely. she is my favourite character of gen 2 alongside jo. she’s a bit how i used to imagine myself to be in the future! fashionable, famous, rich, successful, and in a healthy relationship!! (samkota is SO WHOLESOME) her turning into dakotazoid was actually really great. i kinda prefer her that way! she could still be confident with her body despite being a twelve foot tall mutant! i don’t fully understand people who draw her as ‘healed’ from that because like. i don’t think you can reverse something that drastic. and also she’s comfortable with it! she doesn’t seem too upset about it (iirc of course. been a while since i’ve rewatched roti). anyways dakota is amazing, i love her and her relationship with sam, and i think she and zoey should be best friends!!
sierra -
ok i don’t know if you’d want to hear it but. i’m sorry. i hate her. like every moment she was on screen i’d get SUPER uncomfortable. her actions towards cody were horrible and i am not going to ignore them even though yeah she’s a fictional character!!!! i don’t know if her actions were meant to come off as jokes or not but either way it’s not funny at all. i like her design, her voice acting is AMAZING, her face is very expressive (and i love that in a cartoon!), paris in the springtime was one of the best songs of the season (but it will never beat her real name isn’t blaineley), but she’s just. not a good character. she had potential! i would’ve loved it if she was a villain, like, you set up alejandro to be the main villain but them BOOM! sierra is actually a manipulative mastermind who will blackmail anyone and get them eliminated!! or something like that. but yeah i don’t like sierra.
i hope this is an ok response!

HII hello my lovely!!!! how are you doing!!! i hope youre having the best month <333 okay so. writing to u bc....i have recently started listening to joan baez after seeing your posts (i am eternally grateful btw...) and now OH MY GOD i am. in love with her. like!!!!! GAHHH <333 i would absolutely love to know your favourite baez songs. ALSO all your thoughts on baez + dylan i am enraptured they are sooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! :'))))))))) like. you KNOW!!! literally cannot stop watching live performances interviews etc of them and feeling unwell after... :(((( anyways!!! lots of love to you and eternal kisses and a million yellow daises <3333 MWAHH xx
HELLO BELOVED!!!!! I read this ask while with my mom so basically we spent the last 2 hours putting this together:
every song and every poem is joan's song and joan's poem, i genuinely don't care who wrote these 👍 walt whitman? lorca? rimbaud? dylan? sounds fake to me. 🤷‍♀️ (<- girl talking about some of her favourite poets. well! they do not exist when joan is in the room🥰) okay so, we pictured this as some sort of poetry reading, that's also a concert, but it's also an opera number and you're in the theatre. (i witnessed a super cool outdoors concert thingy today so i'm a bit overwhelmed by that! hope some of the energy translated to the playlist hehe)
FRIEND! I AM SO TOUCHED! This blog was created for this very purpose, it is very much not about me I just occasionally use it as a diary, but I primarily wanted to share everything I loved with others and every time something like this happens I feel like I'm doing what I was always meant to do so thank you! For reaching out and being so kind! Joan forever ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
I GET THE BAEZDYLAN THING!!!!!! I try not to get too crazy about real people (Jo. Jo. Jo. you were born to be parasocial *shaking myself by the shoulders*) Putting my silly ways in a box under my bed now, I do attach myself to the art primarily so all my affection for the person behind it stems from that art and doesn't exist separately as its own thing because I don't exactly know these people, I just made 73838374937583 stories about them as a kid. BUT! THE THING IS! The essence of BaezDylan translates to their artistry and I could never tell you more than those live recordings tell you because it's literally this... okay okay so it's like do you know when you read a book and you feel like the author had some great life secret whispered to them and then some of it pours into you through the pages??? THAT is BaezDylan (I am writing them as one person on purpose)... I don't think they could explain what was going on there because it sort of outgrows anything a singular person could be, it just had to find a home in the music because it couldn't fit anywhere else. I've only started believing in these things wholeheartedly recently (even though, in a way, I have always known), but they have that thing where you know this one person, but their name isn't that important. It's like they're you in some primal way so you speak the same language, but they're also there to teach you a lesson and that immediately makes them a little unearthly in return. I would insert quotes and start analysing them, but I might start crying so I won't do that.
I LOVE YOU 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Hetalia
I cannot rate this with a good conscience ❤
I have autism and Hetalia is my special interest so this is literally 3k words long and I have absolutely no regrets. I could have gone on longer but I wanted to remain relevant to the class. If you don't reply to me I will cry.
I'm gonna break this into a few sections so you can skip around. I'm going to try and stick to just season 1 with this discussion, which won't be too hard cause it's the most insane one. Also, I just want to say that I wrote this all before I read the attached article and I'm now seeing that I literally could have written that article because I know everything about Hetalia.
When do we cross the line between stereotyping and just straight-up racism?
Hey, why are we idolizing WWII Germany?
Oh, we are portraying war as silly and funny, okay cool.
Is this Japanese Nationalism? (a surprisingly controversial argument)
The Sub and the Dub are 2 totally different shows
The Fandom (and linking back to other class-related terms)
Okay I'll name one good thing
Alright, let's get started.
1.
A lot of people will argue that Hetalia is not racist at all because they are making fun of everyone. If you are portraying all of the countries as their most common stereotypes then it evens out in the end. I would argue that this is in fact, not the case. Especially when you set your show during WWII. I will give Himaruya credit in that he mostly focuses on European countries to make fun of, making a lot of the stereotypes less so targeted at minorities. However, a lot of these jokes are still highly insensitive and frame some countries in a worse light than others
Just look at the difference between how Northern Italy is portrayed as opposed to Germany or Japan. Or how France is a predator, Belarus is into her literal brother, and Spain is seen as a creep. It is often times mocking an entire country's intelligence, appearance, or personality. While it is not always that serious, it does lead me to the second point.
When you personify a country and mock it, you aren't just mocking a piece of land, you are mocking an entire population of people. These jokes may seem harmless but they can still be hurtful. While I don't believe that liking Hetalia translates to your actual views on world events, it can unconsciously impact your real-life thoughts and behaviors.
(also why does Britain see imaginary magical creatures, what is that referencing? According to the wiki, it is some popular folklore story of a rabbit who lives on the moon but like.. what? If Himaruya was doing this much research into these countries' cultural backgrounds why is he portraying them like this?)
2.
This show portrays WWII Germany in too positive of a light for my liking. I've noticed a trend in anime where they seem to love Germany (or Germanic aesthetics) a lot (AOT I'm looking at you). Now I'm not well-versed in the interpersonal relationships between Japan and Germany, but the idolization is not it. The way that Japan in this show is portrayed as being literally obsessed with Germany is the biggest example (Italy is also shown having an immense appreciation for Germany and is often gushing about his positive qualities, even writing him a song while he was being kept prisoner). But I mean look at how Germany is portrayed, even his stereotypes are mostly positive, he is hardworking but helps out his fellow allies, makes great food, and is super strong. His only negative trait is that he sometimes doesn't understand social scenarios and that makes him very awkward. However, he will always go out of his way to try and better understand his friends (like Italy) by purchasing books to try and help him learn the appropriate way to act in scenarios).
Tumblr media
This is 10x worse in the dub but we will get there. When one of your main characters, the one you are portraying in the best light, is a literal war criminal hot anime boy, you can understand why I would be concerned. I mean they gave him the whole blonde hair blue eyed appearance like come on. Now I'm not going to go into depth on fandom or anything here but Hetalia knows that its demographic is young tweens (primarily girls) so how can you be surprised when this portrayal of Germany leads to WWII fanfics sympathizing with Germany and 14 y/o girls in German military uniforms doing questionable things. (also Germany becomes a canonically gay character in Hetalia in like season 4 or something and that just makes me so mad, like yeah, of course, the gay character is WWII Germany that so cool) (okay, I would like to clarify that technically Sweden is the only confirmed gay character. Sweden is bad representation though because he has one-sided feelings for Finland and makes him uncomfortable by constantly referring to him as his wife)
3.
I mean yeah, obviously this isn't going to be an accurate portrayal of history but some of this is just totally misinformation.
Austria invading Germany is literally just Austria annoying him in his house for a really long time. But also there's like actual wars... and like all of the events of WWI are canon... and like there are some really serious episodes
Also, we literally see a bunch of countries going to war personally, like fighting on the frontlines. Which to me confirms that these people are all literal murderers, like mass murderers lowkey.
Do you know how many weird USSR jokes there are throughout this? So many. Lithuania is pretty much just in a running gag where he keeps getting manipulated by Russia into coming back to live with him. (Yeah, there are so many USSR fics as well).
ALSO! why is the American revolution portrayed as the saddest thing to happen thus far, the storyline is stretched out from episodes 16-20 and it is all drastically different from the tone of the rest of the show. Britain is literally on his knees crying saying that he can't shoot America (which also implies these countries can physically harm/kill each other). Like that is the war you wanted to make all sad and sentimental? Why? Is this how Japanese people think that we view the Revolutionary war? Because that is a pretty inaccurate view.
Anyways back to the original point. Some historical events should not be played for laughs sometimes. It is incredibly disrespectful for actual victims of these tragedies to portray these events as funny or goofy.
Though I will give credit because Himaruya does make all sides of the war look like idiots who have no clue what they are doing, which is a sentiment I can get behind.
4.
As a both non-Japanese and non-Korean person I can not really give my opinion on this however I can share with you both sides of the argument. This is mostly in relation to the original comic strip, but has some relevance to the anime as well. I just wanted to bring it up because it is interesting to me. (This is briefly mentioned in the article but I wanted to expand on the argument).
You may or may not have noticed that there is no South Korea character in this show, however, there was in the original comic. In the comics, South Korea is a pervert who is constantly touching Japan and he also takes credit for the inventions of other countries. Now I'm obviously not going to go into the past history of these 2 countries because that would be incredibly long but the South Korean National Assembly reviewed Hetalia and determined that it was a "crime against South Koreans, akin to slander". So yeah, South Korean people were not happy with this portrayal and the character was inevitably removed from the anime before release. (This is a real picture of the South Korean National Assembly reviewed Hetalia, the corner shows South Korea groping Japan inappropriately)
Tumblr media
There are two opposing views to the Japanese Nationalism take and I'll link them both (Belittling Japanese Nationalism Hetalia: Axis Powers is the title of the first one)
The first one pretty much argues that Hetalis is not Japanese nationalism because it paints Japan in just as negative of a light as all of the other countries, no one is left out of being made fun of. Japan is seen as socially awkward, emotionally repressed, and obsequious.
The second argues that Japan is often shown to be more intelligent than other characters as well as often being of the voice of reason (especially compared to China) and most of his negative attributes are not nearly as harmful as some others in Japan’s case, even his “negative” stereotypes are inoffensive, as they pose no threat of meiwaku.
I think we see in the dub that Americans are a little more willing to make fun of themselves. Though there are a few good Japan self digs, like the capitalism joke in one of the first episodes.
5.
Oh boy I've been waiting for this.
The dub is 10x more offensive than the sub. Most people consider it a crack dub.
So many of the jokes are rewritten that it is practically a different show. The sub is from a Japanese perspective and the dub is from an American perspective.
First of all the accents in the dub are so bad like it is actually atrocious. Japan is really annoying because not only is his voice stereotypical but he always says 'nani?' instead of 'what?' as if that is a normal thing that people do. The narrator is the best part of the dub and she is hilarious.
So I don't really feel comfortable even typing out the jokes here so if you want to hear them I included the time stamps for the three nazi jokes I remember in season 1 (the last two being worse).
Episode 1 (1:35:1:38)
Episode 7 (2:13-2:19)
Episode 48 (1:28-1:31)
Those are just a few examples and it gets worse. The dub literally had no reason to include these jokes because there is not even an insinuation of them in the sub and it makes literally everything a million times worse.
I will give the dub some credit for being so utterly ridiculous that it's funny. I will provide a few timestamps for the funniest jokes that only appear in the dub from the first 19 episodes (but I really recommend looking up Hetalia dub funny moments on youtube because some of them are really priceless):
Episode 13: (1:45-2:05)
Episode 14: (1:12-1:22)
Episode 17: (0:59-1:15) (2:06-2:11)
6.
Now I've had this post typed up for a bit and originally I wasn't going to talk about the fandom but after reading the article that he assigned (and going through the fandom unit), I see that there is a lot of reference to fandom in particular so I want to at least mention it.
Not the 2 biggest problems with the Hetalia fandom are racism and the fetishization of gay men.
As mentioned in the article, there have actually been multiple fan incidents of them dressing up in WWII German military uniforms Germany/Prussia cosplay, and standing in front of temples with fake guns or doing nazi salutes in convention photos (If we want to bring racism and fetishization of gay men together there were two people who kissed in a holocaust memorial museum in Italy and Germany cosplay... there is no picture of this so it might be a rumor but it was well-known so it is worth mentioning). There were also a lot of people using imperialist Japan flags in cosplay/fanart and writing incredibly inappropriate fanfiction about real-life events.
If you would like to see any of these incidents feel free to look up "Hetalia the Boston Incident" I don't really wanna include the photos here.
The fetishization is not unique to the Hetalia fandom, but it is amplified to the max. Obviously, within Hetalia, there are almost no female characters, so this leaves only male characters to be shipped with one another. Now suddenly Germany is an uwu gay bean and not an actual war criminal. At the moment of writing this Hetalia has 32105 M/M fics on ao3 which is only one of the three fanfiction sites, with ao3 not even becoming popularized until after the peak of the Hetalia fandom. (the most popular ship being America/England who refer to each other as brothers in the show as England raised America, showing another problematic part of the fandom). I would argue that Hetalia has one of the gayest fandoms (My Hero Academia is giving it a run for its money though) and I agree with the article that it is inaccurate to say that this is only done by straight cis women. The fact of the matter is a lot of queer teens used Hetalia as an outlet to express their own sexuality through these characters. The straight women that do fetishize BL are likely only doing so because anime creators suck at writing good female characters.
I think that the "level of gayness" turns straight fans away from watching the show (again MHA is the same way today) as it is hard to interact with the fandom without seeing some yaoi content. However, many people view this as something wrong or cringy, when in reality it is a normal part of fandom culture. When gay people have such little content that is actually gay, you cannot blame us for creating our own through characters that we like/relate to. Again, I think the only issues that arise here are the problematic ships that give young people a bad impression of relationships (abusive, incest, pedophilia, etc) or the arguable problematic ones like China/Russia or Lithuania/Russia as again these are real countries with real political relations. (However, I will never forget the time that there was Russia/China fanart on the news, maybe they approve and I shouldn't be complaining)
Tumblr media
The thing is, Hetalia only seems so bad because the fandom is so large and so young. A lot of shows have fandoms that sexualize the characters and have kinda problematic fans, but the sheer volume makes things seem worse. This is something that we covered when we watched Genshiken, but there is a lot of negative stigma behind this fandom in particular, but it is just a loud minority that gets a lot of news coverage between fandoms.
It also raises the question "Is a show responsible for the response of its fans?"
Because while Himaruya has no control over what people do with his characters or how they interpret a plot, if a majority of people are leaving your show spouting vaguely racist rhetoric and interpreting your show one way, isn't there some validity in that interpretation? I think a creator has to be aware of their audience, which in this case is a very young and impressionable audience who might not understand how offensive some of the things they are doing really are. They don't hold the same ability to separate fiction from reality.
That being said Hetalia had a large impact on fandom culture as a whole, largely starting things like 'ask a character' panels (along with like homestuck but we don't talk about her). If you go to any convention you will probably find a Hetalia cosplayer, and if you watch any dub there is probably a voice actor from Hetalia there.
I also want to mention Hetalia is also a fandom full of cultural capital, If you don't know every niche fact, you're not a real fan, If you haven't read Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart you haven't even met the entry-level requirements to be a fan. There are also no characters that are too sacred to be altered within the fandom. If you want to put Germany in a maid dress have at it, if you want to see all the characters as girls you're in luck cause Himaruya literally drew them. Fanfictions can take place anywhere from WWI to the present day and you can put any characters in any scenario and make it believable. There are thousands of pieces of fanwork, fan art, fangames, and fan AUs. These characters are malleable to fit your personal preference and there is really no way you could be mad at this as Himaruya does this himself, with no real established canon.
a Hetalia fan once said, "No one cares if Hetalia was written by a Japenese Imperialism apologist when you're 31 chapters deep into a human Au soulmate fic about Austria inviting Prussia to see his boyband perform in Berlin"
Himaruya is also the king of moe characteristics because he turned these Hetalia men into any cute thing he could think of, Chibi versions (Chibitalia), female versions (Nyotalia), and cat versions (Nekotalia). He has no reservations about drawing the characters in a dress or in cat ears. He gave the characters human names to allow for more standardized human AU's and made a DS dating game. He encourages fans to take his characters and use them in their fanworks as they see fit, canon is up to interpretation itself. I think Himaruya himself was a huge part of fandom culture (not that I could tell you cause no one knows anything about the guy) and saw how the female characters were often treated by fans and turned it on its head, allowing for females to sexualize the males this time.
Also, none of the male characters in this show resembles a Hegemonic form of masculinity. Even the most masculine character in the show (Germany) can be seen doing more "feminine things" like wearing a dress or proposing to a man. Which, you know, I guess is a good diversion from things you would typically see in an anime of this nature (but again there are a lot of instances of characters being feminine being played for laughs, like a man being girly is something inherently funny). Feat. Germany proposing to Italy with a tomato ring.
Tumblr media
7.
I am Hetalia's biggest hater, however, I cannot deny the impact that it has had on my life and how much I love to talk about it. Hetalia is what introduced me to anime and fandom (and tumblr) for the first time. I met a lot of people I still talk to today because of this show. It encouraged me and a lot of other people to actually get interested in history. Thanks to this show I can identify every country in Europe, and it was a lot easier to remember historical facts if I just imagined the Hetalia characters. Also, Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart is a literary masterpiece and there is a reason it almost has a five-star rating on goodnotes (https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/22064556) I love you George DeValier I hope you're doing good wherever you are.
I would like to make it abundantly clear that despite everything I've said that might make me sound like a woke blue-haired liberal, I don't really think this show is some horribly racist show or that the people who enjoy it are racist. I just wanted to provide a deeper outlook on the impact a seemingly dumb show can have on real people. I can't really blame the show for the terrible response of the fandom and it did honestly get better in later seasons that are not focused on WWII.
Despite all the bad stuff, it is a relatively funny little 5-minute watch, and you can really just jump in at any point you want to. If you don't take it as seriously as I do you might even enjoy it a little.
If you actually read this far I have major respect for you, I'm really excited to see what the general consensus on this show is.
Tumblr media
Prussia and South Italy were my favorites in case anyone cared
If you're wondering why I didn't do my presentation on Hetalia despite my extensive knowledge, it is because I would be incredibly biased and I would go off the rails I think.
Also, my biggest fear is current Hetalia fans finding this and killing me, that might seem irrational but the Gundam fans found me last time so I wouldn't put it past them.

Yeah honestly I think the reason rewrites are getting so much hate now is because of like 2-3 popular rewrite creators being really pushy about people making their own rewrites. It’s the same reason Shaw was getting so much hate in the beginning too because most people don’t like having things forced onto them. I can’t know for sure obviously but I’ve been following a couple of rewrite creators for a long time and before these 2-3 popular creators started being so pushy I never saw any of the other rewrite creators get any hate, I’ve seen people get death threats for using Bright or Shaw but never for a rewrite. I seriously miss the days when having a rewrite of Bright was just something others would do for fun or to make the character more personal to them but now it’s being forced as some moral obligation.
As for how I write Bright I don’t plan on giving him some sort of redemption arc but I have removed the possession anomaly and amulet so he’s just immortal and unable to be harmed kinda like Clef. However I can’t change the name or anything else because then he just starts to feel like an oc as opposed to an actual established character. Although I do enjoy most rewrites and even Shaw I just can’t get attached to them in the same way sadly. Also I can’t really speak on removing the Dr Bright tag from rewrites I know some of my friends get triggered by seeing rewrites in the tag but I can’t personally attest to that.
I have to disagree; most of the popular blogs are stating their boundaries, telling people why they don't want their stuff to be labeled as Dr. Bright contents, and providing information on why they don't want it. People don't actively seek out people and demand that they make rewrites; if you think what they're doing is pushy, block them.
Point blank: The reason people disliked Shaw was because DJK was presented in such a terrible light and had stolen credit from the real creator, who was a victim. I can understand Shaw because DJK claims he ‘killed’ Bright, which in itself was really shitty and performative as to boost his relevance by introducing ‘his’ cool new OC. He didn't ‘kill’ Bright; he didn't do jack shit. Hell, he didn't even acknowledge the antisemitism. At some point, racism, incest, or sexism were attached to the character. Simply changing his name does not fix anything; in fact, it sweeps it under the rug and still treats it as the butt of the joke. Not only that, but people found out that the real creator of Shaw actually had plans to redo and fix the character, not to completely erase Dr. Bright but to remove the negative parts. They decided to remodel the character as well because Dr.Bright was suppose to be self-insert by AB.
People wanted to do the same thing because they didn't agree or because they wanted to make a version of that piece. Either it's changing the character as a whole, changing the amulet and the lore along with the name, or keeping everything the same but rewriting the lore and lightly changing the name to have the same hold as Bright.
We're not outwardly telling people to change; we're just asking them to remember the victims and to change the lore of that character. Remove AB from the lore and create your ideal of 963. If it's the sexy Tumblr man, cool! Do it! Be happy and set your lore! But don't be disrespectful about it. We do it for fun, but there's people who have disrespected us and refuse to which started this whole situation. We asked many times for people to not tag our stuff as Jack Bright/Bright/ or anything of that manner, as we do have our own tags, which are 963-Rewrites/Bright-Rewrites/ or our Rewrites name. That's why we keep pleading with people to respect our wishes, but many people don't.
Many people haven't. Or many people have created a fuss with our wishes.
Most of the Doctors or personnel are well-known OCs from the authors because they have been around longer or when the whole fandom began to rise up. Everything in the foundation is someone's OC or creation. That's the whole point of creating for someone to see your creation, or OC./lh/NM

-wip reveal game
game: post the names of all the files in your wip folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have wips.
(i have genuinely so many and most of them are just the titles of the stories themselves so here we go...)
other people's weddings (scoops rom com au)
laundry day (chan fluff fic that died before it even began, really)
corporate wolves (dont even need to talk about this one fjdska)
untitled (three sentences and an idea i had once attached to nothing of substance but might factor into the wonwoo sports au)
the heart is darker (half abandoned horror fic, might repurpose)
in the mind of madness (fully abandoned mad scientist!taeil fic)
chariots (jaehyun college au, sort of a slow burn in reverse fwb thing)
untitled (two paragraphs of mingyu angst i wrote when i was trying to pull myself out of writers block)
not like this (perhaps the whisperings of a seokmin friends to lovers)
kino au (umm side project maybe?)
CHM - scene by scene #2 (a place to work on scenes from cant help myself without getting overwhelmed by the amount in the actual full doc)
can't help myself (the actual full doc for the series i started on @gyusense)
sun and moon (taeyong vampire au)
marry me (taeil au, might repurpose might finish who knows)
longshot (chan band au that i want to finish but lost steam on. rivals to lovers of a sort)
after hours (cool magical realism supernatural sort of jaemin fic)
shadow and blade (wu xia assassin au originally intended for kun, might repurpose for hao with a slightly adjusted plot)
storm of the century (atmospheric horror. might repurpose for an original short story)
from what i once was; expansion (pretty much what it says on the tin)
advantage line (scoops rugby au)
jelly kim fic (was gonna write a cute law student rom com type thing. maybe still i will do it)
home and away (sequel to home is a feeling that i genuinely dont know if i will actually ever finish writing)
the way the soul sighs (some real floaty romantic snippets. was gonna be a haechan thing back in the day, now who knows...)
dream circus prologue (an intensely ambitious project for the dreamies that i lost ALL steam and motivation to write)
the single girl's guide to falling for your roommate (doie roommate au, rom com. was considering one for each 127 member at one point lol)
the raven but it's about jaehyun's dick (well.....just what it says on the tin)
i will spare you the rest LMAO
was tagged by @sapphichui @husbandhannie @bfwonu @gfcheol

incomprehensible lightlament tagger here so I feel obligated to defend my honor.
I think for me it comes down to 1) a lot of the (especially earlier) senior staff writing kind of sucking objective ass but then having these brief flashes of the most intriguing shit you’ve ever seen in there. mediocre stories with a great deal of potential are like crack to me (at least when it comes to actually making fanwork) bc they get my braingears turning as to how to expand on them (+ of course the handful of fucking brilliant senior stuff tales hidden in the clutter that will fuck you up forever that work precisely bc of the notoriety of the characters theyre about and that, I suspect, were created by people who felt very similarly to me) and 2) I just. rlly like the foundation as a setting and like pretty much every goi-associated character the senior staff all ultimately offer some unique perspective on foundation doctrine; clef is interesting bc of his shitty self-loathing deflection complex motivated by his past on in the goc & the fact he doesnt even work here of his own accord (see: the vanguard side of the no return canon for some pretty cool recent writing on this), light is interesting bc of her determination to hold on to a veneer of morality despite the general fuckedness of everything which, given the prominence of her being in some way entangled with the o5s, can turn her downright hubristic in some tales (see: the new faces splintercanon on the resurrection hub for this). which isnt to say original characters cant be that but having these established fairly iconic characters can be a useful shortcut and with the sheer context of everything that already exists on these guys you can usually end up somewhere very interesting a lot quicker than if you were to build your own characters from the ground up.
I will say though I immensely respect the notion of just straight up not caring about any of the big name characters, I kind of envy you if I’m honest. I think like stroytelling enjoyer motivations aside part of the senior staff’s appeal does also stem from people especially in fandom being more willing to engage with stories that have characters they’re already emotionally attached to in them which, y’know, isn’t a sin, people like what they like, but I do think people miss out on some real bangers hidden on the wiki because of it. I recognize I am part of the problem here, but, yknow, I dont control what the brain attaches itself to.
anyway, cheers! sorry again about the lightlament, i will say that isnt normal youve just accidentally stumbled into a mutuals circle of people who are categorically not normal about dr light. spiders georg etc
I think I get what you’re trying to say here, and again, it’s largely similar to why I wanted to write Resurrection-family articles in the first place. There is a bit of a difference though: I read Resurrection when I was a lot younger, when it first came out. Back then I hadn’t really been as discerning or critical of what I read on the wiki, so I either didn’t notice or didn’t care about the flaws in the story, and I liked it pretty uncritically. Even back then I wanted to write for it, and years later, when I decided to write for the Wiki, I still did. At that point, I noticed a lot more issues with Resurrection on re-read, but I was already attached to the canon. It was really influential to how I viewed the wiki, so in spite of its flaws it’s important to me as an SCP writer. These days, though, I’m probably far too critical to get attached to things in the same way, hence my general apathy towards staff stories (though it might be worth noting that even back then, I found senior staff stories annoying as I outlined in a previous post).
I also understand your second point about the staff representing interesting aspects of the setting. As a writer, though, in a lot of cases I just kind of figure “why bother with all that baggage when I can just write my own character that I’ll enjoy writing more and is better tailored to my needs?” And, again, these characters just seem too ill-defined to get a good bead on. That sort of falls back to the whole “why bother with wrangling all that when I can make my own character.” I wrote Iris because I find her whole deal as an established SCP to be interesting at a basic level, even if I find the original SCP-105 article itself to be bland and uninteresting. I am aware that by trying to write one solid interpretation of her I am only adding fuel to the fire of her having too many interpretations but one day I’ll have the majority of 105 tales under my name. Then who’ll be laughing.
And I definitely get just wanting to use characters that people already know. From a more cynical standpoint, it would help with interest in your content - as I’ve said before, my tales featuring more original characters haven’t done well - but just on an “I have an interest in this thing and I want people to talk to about it” level I get it. Lord knows how many times I’ve latched into a character from something only to see a grand total of two dudes and an ambitious octopus who also like them on the internet.

What's professor layton? What's so cool about it? Tell me all about it!
Tumblr media
him. he is professor layton. protag of the professor layton games.
the professor layton games can be summed up as "puzzle-loving quintessential british gentleman and his apprentice solve mysteries together" but the thing is. that this description obscures just how fucking insane everything is.
like professor layton is so smart and intelligent and polite and charming and he loves tea and he's so stereotypical that you don't realize this man is insane until he's having a sword fight with an 80 year old vampire man while they're both high off their mind. he befriends nessie. he named his car the laytonmobile and it's literally just. car with a taller roof. so he can wear his hat, in the car. he gets into SO MANY SWORD FIGHTS. he's carrying so much trauma with him that he just doesn't mention.
and this is what the plots are like! like people JOKE about that one thread of professor layton and the very big dog where they come up with absurd explanations but that is ACTUALLY WHAT THE GAME IS LIKE. like no, the magician is not real, he's actually using an insane amount of paid actors, drones, trickery, and wires to pull it off. we're never going to explain why he just grows wings sometimes though. like yes, the entire town is robots. we're not going to address how weird that is or how that even works. like no, time travel is fake, EXCEPT for this one girl, who can time travel but only to explode. the people going "professor layton vs ace attorney's plot is so implausible and stupid" HAVE CLEARLY NEVER PLAYED A LAYTON GAME. because the series is just LIKE THAT.
AND I LOVE IT.
like the games are so ridiculous and charmingly so! just like its protagonist, it's so charismatic in its insanity and sincerity! and like the stories, while ridiculous at times, are like, really emotional. and i love it and i got so attached to these funky little guys. like the character writing in layton games is so much that i'm attached to the npcs i meet along the journey,,,
also the gameplay is point and click puzzle adventure and i love. pointing and clicking. i love looking at all the things and finding collectibles. i love seeing what my characters have to say about everything because they comment on what they're examining and have conversations and it's so!!! !!!!!!! you know??? the puzzles can be hard sometimes and i do have to look some up but other times i actually feel smart when i finish a puzzle myself!! and it makes me happy :)
thank u for letting me ramble, anon :)

nnnngh i'm repeating myself but also
while musically this trilogy has been Alright -- not the best, hi maison, but definitely Solid especially in the b-side department -- conceptually... yeah. the "save the earth before it's too late" concept is a good and interesting one -- let alone making a whole trilogy centered around it, let alone as a girl group! the n/f/t thing sort of ruined it for everyone a bit, but honestly whoever sincerely believes kpop groups and kpop companies are going to be serious about activism is an idealist, to be polite. they're here to make money and also music. BUT. it just felt so... idk, disjointed? not fully there?
the dystopia trilogy at least had the "tree of language" bit, the thing that started a tiny little story and let the audience know what the comebacks are going to be about. and it tied scream and odd eye neatly! sure, they didn't achieve bts levels of sincerity in their lyrics (LET THEM WRITE LYRICSSSSS GOD), but the general meaning was there, and the story surprisingly ended badly. things are bad -> things shouldn't be bad -> well, we tried to find the ideal world where things wouldn't be bad but we failed. it was something!
but i feel like the apocalypse trilogy just... dropped the ball on more than one front. it doesn't even live up to its name! even if you don't associate the word "apocalypse" with darker, heavier and more guitarry sound, the first album literally had together, cherry and playground on it -- they're poppy and cheerful! come on! vision was a turn in the right direction -- once again the lyrics talk about mobilizing yourself and picking up the fight, hell yeah!, and fairytale was absolutely stellar, but on the other hand the rap quality and the number of actual songs on the album dropped, which only made the obligatory mellow piano ballad more irritating. but hey, onwards to the final part...! and the final part is. a love song.
don't get me wrong, i love bon voyage with all my heart in its gorgeous melancholic-yet-full-of-energy glory. but it's a love song. someone said it's a song about leaving the person you love for the greater good? to do your duties and save the world? but like, man, i don't get this from the lyrics. it's a love song from the point of view of someone who tries to leave because they have scars, faults, bad experiences under their belt, but despite everything they still can't, and keep on imagining the future they could share with their loved one.
this... would be something, definitely, if there was at least some sort of introduction, if the previous two title tracks weren't manifesto-type songs to Everyone. if the mvs showed deukae not just as cool warriors with superpowers fighting (?) some kind of enemy (?), but also real people with feelings and attachments -- for example to each other! everyone and their grandma is doing lore, but for example bts and currently ateez have those little diary things where members(' characters) write down their adventures. we're trying to change the past! overthrow the oppressive regime! while having our own problems, fears, people we worry about! holy shit, what happened to yeosang! and it would've really worked well with deukae! i don't really care about lore that much myself, but perhaps it could keep the fans occupied between comebacks and render references actually meaningful rather than "oh hey, this is the same dance move/similar (something) as in (mv title)!".
but it's just not there, and instead the trilogy is just a mess. sure, you've got a fucking. furry cell mascot out of absolutely nowhere, and yoohyeon is on a horse, and sua is jumping real high to... grab a pigeon mid-flight? but how does it actually connect to the story? what's going on? back in vision, dami was doing Something, was she a spy? in this mv, gahyeon is doing Something to the barrier, will she succeed? we just don't know! and it's irritating. the mv is just a slideshow of unfairly pretty shots, but they're pretty for the sake of being pretty and nothing else. we've gone a Long way since chase me, and while the budget sure is bigger... yeah, chase me and other older title track mvs actually kept you watching, because you were wondering where it would all lead. there's some guy! that's creepy! horror imagery! this is vaguely disturbing! where are they going with this? now it's just... oh she's pretty. oh she's pretty. oh she's pretty. that's it. and honestly, it's not like this is bon voyage's invention, deukae mvs have been steadily losing plot elements for a good while, but this mv is like... the epitome. yoohyeon's on a horse.
IF they're not breaking the... well, it's only two albums, so you can't call it a "tradition", but if they're not going to break the barely-there-tradition of special mini albums between the eras, their next comeback will be one and i'm already wondering what it's going to be. especially considering it's probably going to come out in like... november, and that's already fair into the Dark Part Of The Year, spooky season etc, so if they want to give us a darker sister of BEcause, i'm all ears, eyes etc.

HII can i ask about your OCs (again), more specific questions this time but honestly talk about anything you want and take as long as you'd like !!!
about leo!! how did they get into woodworking and is there anything specific she likes to make/favourite thing he has made? craft is SOO COOL :0 andd what pronouns they’re more comfy with, if any! i'll mix a few for now
ivy and lavender!!! amazing interests i also love nature and science/bio stuff (omg i just realised their names are kinda related to that, THAT’S SO CUTE) , do they like to go on walks and hikes together? ORRR any stories about them spending time together! also i love the way you weave the canonical settings/worldbuilding from the book/series into your writing – it’s so intricate and natural and i’m just in awe! Like magic settings and the little conveniences,,, ANYWAYS this reminded me about that and i imagine you also do that for ivy and lavender’s stories :)
etta and sashaaaa what was their first meeting like? or first impressions ? i think they would be really fun :]
etta has like . main character vibes HAHASH , kinda similar to frances’ type of protagonist which is so nice!!
Some of these turned into commenting about ur OCs part two 😭 but I think your OCs are very cool and everyone should know about them >:) which is why i sent an ask!! but also feel free to skip qns/ message instead if you want to post on your blog only after you’ve written more things :D
( i typed this a while ago , sending it a little later :)) no pressure andd leave it in your inbox till you want to talk about your OCs! )
HI!!! :D ask anything you like at any time you want, i’ll never tire of talking about my ocs or writing hehe
leo got into woodworking through their job. they live in this terrible patriarchal + cisnormative society that puts a huge emphasis on gender roles, and things like woodworking, manual labor, and careers that involve having authority over the village are considered men’s jobs, whereas things like cooking, sewing, childcare, and domestic activities are considered women’s jobs. so leo (who is amab) is only able to take a man’s job, although even if they got to choose anything they’d still choose woodworking just cause they like it! they very much enjoy creating things, both as a career and for fun
her favorite thing she’s made is a wooden replica of her favorite knife! it’s an almost exact match, right down to dimensions and her initials scratched into the handle. she used the real knife to make it, and it lives on a shelf in her room :)
regarding pronouns, idk honestly lol. i use he/him in the story itself because that’s the way leo thinks of himself (because of the society he lives in and all, he has no idea that there might be other options - at least at the beginning), but outside of it i use any! i feel like leo probably wouldn’t use he/him exclusively if he lived outside the story, if that makes any sense. and other people are free to use any as well :)
ivy and lavender yes!! their matching names were originally placeholder names but then i got attached to them haha. it felt slightly ridiculous to give them names that not only matched each other but also their interest in plants and the green and purple outfits i picture them in, so i decided that they chose their own names in order to remove accountability from myself 🤪
they do go on walks and hikes together! they’re constantly outside, learning more about flora and fauna or just having fun. and yesss i love little worldbuilding details! i don’t think there’s a ton in their story as i haven’t written much yet, but hopefully there will be one day!
etta and sasha’s first meeting was SO fun to write omg. one saturday etta is in the kitchen doing homework when the doorbell rings, and when she opens the door there’s sasha. she recognizes them from school (they’re pretty noticeable, they have bright blue hair and eccentric outfits) but doesn’t really know them. instead of making any sort of introduction, sasha simply holds out etta’s water bottle and tells her she forgot it. and etta is SO confused (partly because she didn’t even notice it was missing in the first place lmao) but sasha explains that she left it on her desk in english class, and they sit there during the next class and noticed that the name on it was the same name on the mailbox on the house across the street - oh, yeah, i live across the street from you etta! wait, you are etta, right?
she is indeed etta, so she takes it, and sasha is pretty much just like “ok byeee” and leaves. and she’s left in the doorway like “what in the world just happened” lmao. and then they become friends a bit later!
i agree, she does have frances protagonist vibes! she and sasha are partially inspired by frances and aled so i guess it makes sense lol
tysm for the ask aaaa 🥺💛

2. When was the last time you cried?
Two nights ago haha cause I gots all the anxiety.
3. Do you have kids?
Nope and I never plan to.

Sometimes; it really depends on who I’m talking to. I can be very jokingly facetious though in person.

How they treat others around them and move about in a space they occupy. It’s my go to observation because it usually says a lot about a person and if I want to engage with them.
6. What's your eye color?
Hazel Brown
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
Both! Films should make you feel something at the end of the day; wether that’s uncomfortability or joy. I’m here for any type of film as long as it’s well directed and written.
8. Special talents?
Let’s see, I can draw very well ( I do all kinds of art tho). I do lots of cool stuff like special effects makeup and prop making :>!

Watching films, writing, crafting, cosplay and making art

Yes! I have 3 dogs and 1 cat
12. What sports do you play or have played?

13. How tall are you?
5’7 1/2
14. Favorite subject in school?
History and English
15. Dream job?
Oh god. I would die if I could be a costume designer for films or stage plays. But in this economy? Impossible for me financially to go to schooling for it haha.
If I’m grounded in reality? Anything that pays well, is remote or at least minimal interaction with other people; and gives me great healthcare and dental.
I don’t even have 15 mutuals to tag because I had to restart my blog 🥲. So I’ll tag @dantexxorihara @brokengrlxxx @tyjrose @diamondsarent-forever cause whether we chat a lot or not I appreciate my mutuals :>!

So, I finally watched Velma.
Before I go any further I just want to make something clear, no I’m not defending this show against criticism, nor am I trying to convince you that it’s some sort of hidden gem. I’ve watched all the episodes that have been released at the time of writing, and in all honesty, I think Velma is pretty mediocre.
Not good, but nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. So, if you just wanted my honest thoughts about Velma, there you go, you can stop reading now, go back to whatever it is you’re currently doing. As for everyone else, get comfy, because this is gonna be a long post.
I wanna get the positives out of the way first, I genuinely like the show’s artstyle, in an era where every single “adult” cartoon has to look like Rick & Morty, this show stands out from the rest by having its own unique artstyle, that being said, Norville does look weird whenever he’s facing forward. But that’s a minor nitpick.
Kinda wish the quality of the animation was a bit better though, but it’s an animated show made specifically for streaming, so the animation quality was always gonna be so-so.
As for the characters, I didn’t find them as unlikable or annoying as other people did - mostly because I never really had that much of a personal attachment to the Scooby gang to begin with - though if I had to pick a favorite I’d have to go with Norville, I find that his optimism and general good nature is a breath of fresh air, as I’m so sick of every modern adult animated series having every character be an unlikable asshole or a complete dumbass.
Nevertheless I do agree that the “Look at how much of a loser Fred is!” jokes got old real quick, and I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t even like Fred. But those jokes weren’t bad enough to make me want to quit watching.
As for the other jokes, they’re super hit and miss, I do feel like if the first two episodes just toned down the raunchy/”meta” jokes then the backlash wouldn’t have been so bad, because there were some jokes that made me chuckle, like Brenda’s funeral, Norville’s hair brained schemes to win Velma over, the school fighting tournament name being too long etc. But sadly, those types of jokes are few and far between.
Oh, and the hallucination sequences are pretty cool.
Now that we got the positives out the way, let’s talk about the negatives. I really don’t understand why this show needs a recap at the start of each episode. Did the showrunners think people were gonna watch the show out of order? Or did they do that because they were planning on airing the show on Adult Swim in the near future? Either way, it’s super annoying.
Also, I really hate how the show just awkwardly cuts to the end credits. I know Harley Quinn also did this, but it’s way more noticeable here. Almost like the end credits are trying to jump scare you to death.
But I think my biggest issue with the series as a whole is its obsession with trying to be as “meta” as possible, it really got on my nerves, to the point where I legit wanted to yell out “I get it! You’re self aware.”
Thing is, I don’t mind meta humor. Archer and American Dad are two great examples of how to properly implement meta humor into a sitcom narrative, but what makes those two shows work is that they’re not trying to impress the audience by showing how smart they are.
Simply having the characters point out tired old cliches and tropes isn’t clever, it’s taking the easy way out. I honestly wouldn’t have minded this as much if Velma was the only character who was making “meta” references, but every single character does this. To the point where I was expecting someone to look directly at the camera and say “Are these self aware meta jokes doing anything for you?”
Look, I get it, the reason why they’re doing this is because of Rick and Morty, a network executive most likely looked at the meta humor from that show and said “Do that for a Scooby Doo spin off aimed at adults.”
If the show would just tone down the “We’re so meta” gimmick and put more effort into fleshing its characters and story out, then I honestly think it could be pretty decent. But as of this writing, it just feels like it’s struggling to find its own identity.
Who knows, maybe the writing will get better down the line, but as of right now it’s a mess.
Alright, time to talk about the “controversy” surrounding this show - because that’s all anyone wants to talk about - so here goes……
I don’t give a shit about any of this culture war nonsense, nor do I give a shit about these Twitter threads over analyzing every single joke, and I certainly don’t give a shit about Mindy Kaling or her political views, so why am I bringing any of this up? Because the discourse is annoying.
It’s okay to just admit that you don’t like the show, or that you think it’s “cringe” or whatever, but all this discourse has become unbearable. You cannot go anywhere online without running into someone complaining about the show. It’s Ghostbusters 2016 all over again, and I’m just so tired.
I’m tired of the internet latching onto a piece of media and creating never ending discourse about said media, I’m tired of seeing people who genuinely liked working on shows/movies get bullied and harassed. And I’m just tired of people being unwilling to say “Wow, this looks like shit” and moving on with their lives.
Yes, no media should be immune to criticism, but going out of your way to ruin someone’s livelihood because they created or worked on something you hated just makes you an asshole who deserves no sympathy.

🖊 vino
OH if i dont have so muchhh to say about him holy crap
ive been hella fixated on him lately tbh.. so i could go OFF uhh lettsss seeee
his entire story is so sad cause as a character he never had the feeling of being a part of a family or even having a genuine friend plus he had to fend for himself for a lot of his life AND he was used as an unwilling test subject by his organization in the past and ended up having severe trust issues ✨ which led him to not be able to accept kindness in a healthy way (no im not projecting......) and often assumes any attempts at kindness are someone trying to get something from him. so he basically has a wall up 24/7 to protect himself. which is hella sad
in that same vein he latches onto anyone who shows him genuine kindness or respect though hes very bad at showing his affection towards others .. after he was freed from the care of the scientist who'd been abusing him for testing he was very wary of most people but the one person who showed him clear sympathy was mocha and from then on he'd grow an attachment to him, making him one of the only people vino feels a sense of safety around
uuhhhh this one is kind of a big symbol in the fic but i dont want to go tooo in depth for the sake of letting people recognize it on their own but there is one thing that appears in it that is a symbol for his trust throughout the whole story and i love it but i also wanna let people learn about it themselves once i write the fic so AGH
i also initially was going to focus his whole character around him being a vampire used as a weapon which would obviously be terrifying but considering his backstory has a lot to do with him being socially rejected for being a vampire i decided he'd likely reject that side of himself.. hence (very small detail most people probably dont notice) he has scars on his ears from attempting to shape them to be more humanlike and he tries never to smile with his teeth PLUS he never uses his teeth/claws to fight and instead prefers weapons
some other more fun fact type things:
vino's design has probably changed the most from start to finish, initially i wanted him to have shorter hair (like chin length?) and a hood and for him to be more of a character who operates secretly, but i decided to make it closer to his canon design cause it makes way for a lot more parallels, plus something else with his design was i was going to make him much more clearly genetically altered with constant claws (that went entirely up his arms) and blacked out scleras but i decided instead that i wanted to make those elements less apparent to allow for them to be more significant in scenes where they appear (typically when he experiences a strong emotion or is in a state of distress is when those traits would emerge)
his name was SUCH an unnecessary struggle for me holy shit originally i was thinking smth along the lines of bloody mary (which would be cool but then i was like i feel like thats way too low hanging) and then i thought maybe red wine.. but no i didnt really like that and eventually i settled on vino BUT the reason i chose vino was not only because it means wine but ALSO because i wanted it to be a play on the latin prefix veno- which actually means "when pertaining to veins"
vino, despite being sort of stoic and cold, is very easy to fluster and absolutely awful at social interactions (which is why he tends to avoid them)
because he cannot see himself in mirrors, mocha took to braiding his hair every once in a while
hes actually a real softie under all his angst and anger he just doesn't know how to show it ^^;
SO SORRY i have sooooo many thoughts about him errrmmmm i didnt mean to rant but. here we are

ok ^_^ narancia or triesh TRISH I MENAT TRISH
I'LL DO BOTH. Trish first but I'll do Narancia too seperately!!
Both are beloved though
[Not Spoiler-Free. Long post, under the cut]
First Impression: I, like alot of people I think, didn't immediately like her at introduction. Because the real beauty of her character comes later. But even at the start she still caught my eye
Being that the whole rude snobby thing seemed like an act to protect herself in this situation since she began to quickly open up later, she is amazing and I adore her. The complexity of that fuels me. However when I DIDNT know it was a defense mechanism it kept me from getting attached immediately because it. kindof worked for that purpose?? she wasn't exactly too rude or harsh, just blunt, but because of that it did take me some time to realize how great she was.
But even in her first few minutes of being introduced she's still hilarious and badass and there was still the charm of that which got me attached. Turning Narancia's switchblade back around on him, namely. Even if his guard was mostly down.. Good for her. 10/10
Impression Now: Unfortunately like 90% of the teen girls Araki writes, she suffers from sexualization and Written By Araki syndrome and it wounds my soul. That I will openly complain about because come ON, but she has captivated me completely otherwise.
Her determination and complete resilience. Her competence and bravery in the Notorious BIG fight despite just having discovered her power in both eternally trapping an unkillable relentless stand and ensuring everybody on board landed safe. Like come on she's so cool. and adopting the catchphrase of her mentor/father figure..
Alot of her character is genuinely so tragic and like alot of things in part 5 I wish her past (eg her childhood with Donatella before she became sick) were more elaborated on and shown but I cannot complain too much. She stayed strong and the amount of ass she kicked even with the help of others is commendable.
Favourite Moment: ok obviously the end of the Notorious BIG fight because her strength and perseverance genuinely have Bruno in Leone in awe of her for a moment but! that speech she gives in.. I think the Clash/Talking head arc about her father.. Fucking love her she's so good
Idea for a Story: Despite my adoration I don't really have one. Trish stays in the mafia post-VA and becomes bffs with the survivors AU. But also I want to listen to her songs from PHF oh my God
Unpopular Opinion: Despite not having anything wrong with it I don't think Giorno and Trish is a good ship ok ty. personal preference but if there is anything I know about Giorno it's that he doesn't like women and the opposite for Trish/ j
But in all seriousness uhh not exactly an unpopular opinion but as for Diavolo I genuinely do not think she got anywhere close to the closure she deserved. Her last moment seeing him was possibly just him being thrown into a canal- I feel like she never got proper justice for all of what happened to her or closure for any of her feelings (especially with the loss of half the group and the man that could be considered her father figure). He technically was brought to justice, yes, but. I feel like for her it was never really wrapped up. She didn't get answers. Relief. Nothing, really
Godd FUCK part 5's ending I enjoy part 5 but omfg
Favourite Relationship: God there's alot to talk about but this one is already getting long I won't say much. I love her and Bucciarati sm, it's the kind of comfort she never previously got, and since she and Mista were starting to warm up to eachother I wish we could've gotten a look into that friendship some more. Sibling-Type dynamic
Her many parallels to Giorno fascinate me too
I don't really have anything for her ship-wise
Favourite Headcanon: Spa days with Mista. They do their nails and face masks together and gossip and watch movies. sometimes they'll rope Fugo or Giorno in /j

sorry if i keep sending you asks i think it would feel a lil weird to dm bc my accounts on sns tend to be kind of throwaway accounts bc i don't know how to build an online presence prob freaks ppl out lol but yeah exactly you can tell that a lot of new jikookers experienced fan fiction for the first time with jikook so they just be reading and writing whatever. no critical thinking just big cocks and alpha knots is what it takes. the thing is that imo years ago you used to like a pairing and then get inspired by them to make up stories/characters, whereas i feel that now jikookers first and foremost see jm and jk's relationship and personalities in That specific way and it translates to fics as well. they keep saying it's just fiction but i don't buy it lmao i think it's the opposite so yeah it kinda fucks the whole thing up yk. OH btw i know that author!!! i have one of their naruto fics saved in my bookmarks so i'm def familiar w them, i'll check it out! ty <3
(i'll censor the names just in case) yeah they're rly good! hmm rk1ve1nk did an interesting spin on omegaverse in Forest,F1re. very animalistic even though the characters were made in a lab, super unique fic. Mo0nJar by them too is pretty cool. changing genres completely, user cartograph1c writes these weird lil fics, def recommended!!
HEELLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i swear i get so excited when i see you in my inbox hello hello hello
yessssss surveycorpsjean has been Around writing bangers. i am just discovering bakudeku the last few months tho so im extra insane about them 👍also recommend watching trigun for normal reasons (please. please please please please we need more people with trigun brainrot. if u like the hanged man archetype and characters doomed by the narratve and tragic siblings you will Love trigun.)
thank you very much for the fic recs!!!!!!! i have heard of the first author but cant think of the fic ive read so i will check it out. im such a fucking sucker for super animalistic a/b/o..... that furry shit is so good
i have so many thoughts about the way people talk and think about jimin these days but im so scared putting them on public posts will get me doxxed or some shit. people are very attached to the idea that jimin acts openly queer which is really like. well. yeah. i definitely think people reallyyyy need to remember it doesnt matter how much you believe someone famous is queer theyre just presenting in a way that makes them happy and you really do NOT need to decide whether that's queer or not lmao in fact i think it says way more about someone when they decide he's queer because he doesnt act like a "typical man". like yeah in his performances obviously he explores gender some times but like sometimes songwriters are also exploring themes and thoughts that are purely creative. sometimes its not about them (and sometimes it is!) but. yeah. you can PERCEIVE him as queer if it makes you happy but you gotta remember thats not fact thats just what YOU think. yknow. and i also think this translates kinda into the fic people consume and create.
like here's the thing. people dont need to ACT a certain way to be considered men like thats ridiculous if youre a man youre a man regardless of how you act or what u say or what bits you have. same for any gender. which is why i generally think critiquing the cringey wattpad fics is a slippery slope. however, do i also think a lot of them have a very distinct cishet girl fantasy..... yes. but its embarrassing to write Y/N fic. so theyve gotta vent their desires somehow which is like fine i dont give a shit what people write. (as much as it bothers me how uncritically people read it and get it popular) but sometimes in a/b/o especially....... its VERY clear when your biases come out. which is why its sooooooooo obvious when someone who has never met real life queer people writes it. for example grouping "women and omegas" like they fill the same role despite being different subgenders when u could specify like. omegas and female betas. if u wanted. implying that women are still women even if theyre alpha but omegas are not men anymore. you get me? the fact that u decided to include male/female gender essentialism in the fic genre specifically around Not doing that is so unbelievably on the nose. and yet i see it everywhere. (i also think this is a symptom of people never having read other fandoms tho. they dont even know about gock [girl cock]).
also fics where the major antagonists are a group of girls that harrass jimin r super mean bc god we cant have a MAN do that or he's a predator. you get me? and the alpha jk who is quiet and broody and doesnt even HAVE to fight bc he's soooooooo strong the other alphas are just scared of his vibes. like you know the type of fic im describing. in general whenever the major antagonist of the fic is a bunch of women who also want to fuck jk (which like. if we're supposed to believe jk is soooo hot... like. they should?) and the author calls them a "gaggle" of women and emphasises how they "giggle" and their high pitched unpleasant voices..... brother we have some serious internalised misogyny to unpack with that one.
sorry this is such a massive rant I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS. IVE READ SO MUCH BAD FIC IVE NOTICED SO MUCH
