The opening and closing of the front door brought you out of your books and you heard Rosa’s voice echo through the building. Snapping your book closed and tucking it under your arm, you made your way down the stairs, hearing Eugene’s voice soon after. He must be playing another one of those video games. Rolling your eyes, you took a few more steps into the kitchen, Darla running right past you.
“Is that him? Oh, my gosh, Billy!” Darla exclaimed, running forward and wrapping her arms around the boy’s waist, ignoring Victor’s warning of slowing down.
“And that’s Darla,” Rosa chuckled.
“I’m Darla,” the girl grinned up at him, her thick glasses sliding down her nose.
A small smile wandered onto your face as you looked upon the scene, only to have your name called moments later. “(Y/N), come say hi to Billy!”
You waved at the boy who looked to be about the same age as you, if not a little older. You plucked your notebook out of your pocket and wrote a small note to him. ‘Hello.’
“She’s mute,” Victor explained, casting you a sideways glance, “childhood trauma.”
“Oh, I didn’t…” Billy began, pity filling his eyes.
You waved off the apology before turning to Rosa. ‘Do you need help to set the table?’ You signed, a bright smile on your face.
“I’m doing it!” Darla exclaimed, pouting her lips at you before her eyes lit up, “oh yeah, the poster! I made you one! Come, look!” Tugging Billy along, Darla rushed into the dining room, you following loosely behind. “Oh, no…”
There on top of the pink paper were two extremely heavy looking weights. Underneath the weights, however, were the words ‘WELCOME HOME NEW BROTHER’ in pink glitter glue, silver rhinestones decorating the edge. “Sorry, Pedro must have been working out…” In a poor attempt to save the poster, the young girl tugged at a corner, only for it to rip. You and Rosa cringed as Darla passed the corner to Billy.
You smiled thoughtfully, signing to Darla, ‘I can fix it with tape.’
Before she could respond, Mary came walking into the room, a phone against her ear. You rubbed your arm awkwardly as Victor and Mary exchanged a few words before pulling out your notebook once more. ‘I hope you like it here.’ You wrote quickly, watching in anticipation as Billy read the note. He offered a hesitant smile before Darla asked him a question.
“Do you like vegan food? See, I love animals.” A high pitched beeping sounded from the kitchen and the young girl pushed her way past her family. “Oh, no…”
“Oh no, we might have to eat a real turkey!” Victor exclaimed before running off to help Darla.
Billy looked from you to Rosa, “is that…”
“It’s okay, come, I’ll show you to your room. (Y/N), do you wanna come?”
You nodded eagerly before following the two up the stairs, running into Pedro who said nothing. “Is he also… you know…?”
“Oh, he’s just quiet. He can talk a lot when he wants to.”
You shrugged, signing, ‘Pedro can be nice, though.’
“I’m sorry, I don’t understand,” Billy frowned, looking sympathetically at you.
Nodding in understanding, you waved the apology off once more as Rosa continued her tour, “Freddy, this is Billy Batson. Please make him feel at home, okay? Maybe don’t say anything too weird.”
“Oh, one weird thing,” Freddy began, but you were already out the door.
***
After the Victor said his prayer at the dining table, Billy asked his dying question. “Can all of you understand sign language?”
You coughed, choking on your water. Mary looked at him, eyebrow raised. Eugene huffed at him, holding onto your arm (out of the other kids, he was most attached to you). Pedro was indifferent while Freddy looked insulted, and Darla… well, Darla slapped his arm. “That’s rude, Billy!”
‘It’s ok,’ you wrote, ‘I’m used to it.’
You nodded at Rosa, who quickly explained. “Victor and I knew sign language before we met (Y/N). It was just by chance that we happened to adopt her. She’s a sweet girl, Billy, she’s not that bad.”
“I know, I just wanted to ask,” he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “Sorry if that made you uncomfortable, (Y/N).”
‘Don’t worry abt it,’ you wrote quickly, ‘I’m fine.’
***
School the next morning was the same as any other day. You got teased, picked on, mocked, the whole shebang. But today was special. After all, Billy was joining the school and you finally had someone to talk to. Or rather, just to hang out with. Sure, there was Freddy, but all he talked about was superheroes and pop culture, and that was enough to bore anyone. At some point, you had to just drone him out with a note that asked, ‘did you do the maths HW?’ to get him to shut up.
You walked silently into the school while Darla explained things. “This is our security scanner,” she said, taking her bag off, “like in an airport. It’s totally safe.”
“I know what it is,” Billy said awkwardly before turning to you, Pedro and Eugene who were standing behind him. “Is she always like this?”
The three of you nodded in confirmation and you shot Eugene a warning glare as he continued to play on his phone.
“Signs make me uncomfortable,” the little girl continued.
“She’s almost never uncomfortable,” Eugene responded, only to have his arm flicked. “Hey!”
‘Don’t be mean,’ you signed and the boy huffed.
Walking into the hallway, Darla attacked Billy with a hug around the legs. “Have a good first day, big brother!”
“Look, you don’t have to hug me all the time,” the brunet said, pulling away from the embrace, before crouching down to eye-level. “We’re not actually brother and sister, so…”
It pained you to see the disappointment in the girl’s eyes as she looked downcast. “Oh… I’m sorry,” she whispered softly and Billy’s smile evaporated.
Darla turned around and walked down the hall, Freddy noticing her immediately. “Hey!”
“Hey…”
He wrapped his free arm over her shoulders, Billy calling out, “I didn’t mean to make her-”
Freddy just shrugged before walking Darla down to her class. ‘Don’t worry,’ you wrote on your paper, ‘Darla is a strong girl. Ik you’re not too fond w us.’
“I didn’t mean to make her cry,” the boy repeated himself, a frown on his face.
‘Let’s just go to class, ok?’
“Yeah, okay.”
Lunch came around and you sat beside Billy at a lunch table, eating you gross cafeteria food. The two of you sat at lone table, as per usual, when Freddy limped towards the table. “Flight or invisibility?” He demanded as he sat down, roughly placing his tray of food on the table. He dropped his crutch and turned to face you and Billy. When no answer came from either of you, he asked again, “if you could have one superpower, flight or invisibility? What would you pick?” Not letting you answer, Freddy began to ramble. “Everyone chooses flight! You know why?”
“So they could fly away from this conversation?” Billy asked sarcastically and you snickered from beside him.
“No, ‘cause heroes fly,” Freddy said, ignoring his statement. Billy rolled his eyes and went to stand up. “And- and, who doesn’t want people to think they’re a hero, right?” He continued to talk as Billy left the table, “but invisibility, no way, I mean, that’s pervy! Spying around on people who don’t even know you’re there? Sneaking around everywhere, that’s a total villain power, right?!” He yelled out the last words and the cafeteria turned silent as all heads turned towards him. Freddy huffed, grabbing his food and his crutch before chasing after his new brother.
“No,” you whispered under your breath, eyes on your food, “no one wants to be invisible because it hurts.”
“Hey, hey, hey, look who it is! Our second favourite foster child to pick on!” An oh-so annoying voice exclaimed. You didn’t need to turn around to see who it is.
“Wait, so who’s our first?” Burke asked his brother, smirk on his face.
“Freddy, of course, you brother of mine!” Brett snickered, “what are you gonna do, cry? What, are you sad you don’t have a real family?”
The two boys let out a laugh, high-fiving each other before leaving you alone. For some reason, if you could choose between flight and invisibility, you would choose flight. Then you’ll have both powers.
School came and went, and you walked beside Darla as you walked down the stairs. “How was your day, (Y/N)?”
‘Same as usual,’ you signed.
You looked to the front, only to see a car almost run Freddy over. You let out a scream, grabbing Darla’s hand and whipping Eugene’s phone away from him. Ignoring his cries of protest, you ran over to where Freddy was, helping him up. The car doors opened up to reveal Brett and Burke Breyer. You held in a groan.
“What the hell?” Mary snapped, “What is wrong with you two?”
Brett scoffed, pushing Freddy against the car with his shirt. “No way that’s gonna buff out.”
“You gonna pay for this, Freeman?”
“For the dent you made almost hitting me? Yeah, sure, you take these?” He pointed his middle finger in the air and you slapped your palm against your forehead. The boys let out sarcastic chuckles as they pushed your foster brother to the ground, relentlessly kicking him in the stomach.
“Brett, stop!” Mary yelled.
“Don’t touch my brother!” Darla cried.
“What, you need your fake family to stand up for you?” Burke laughed.
“Stand up for yourself, Freeman,” Brett laughed.
“Here, Freeman, stand up for yourself!” Burke snickered, shoving the crutch in Freddy’s face mockingly.
“What about you, (L/N)? Can’t do anything for your ‘brother’, can you?” Brett sneered.
“Leave him alone…” you mustered, feeling eyes at the back of your head.
“I can’t hear you!”
“Leave him alone!” You yelled, only to be pushed by Burke to the ground. You let out a cry when he kicked you in the stomach, trying to use your arms to block the blows.
“Pathetic,” he muttered before turning back to Freddy.
“What are you gonna do, go home and cry to mommy?” Brett taunted, bending down. “Oh, yeah, you don’t have a mommy!”
You got up to pull Brett away from Freddy, but apparently you didn’t have to. “Hey.” A voice sounded, and Burke turned around only to be hit in the face with Freddy’s crutch. Hitting Brett in the crown-jewels, Billy let out a sarcastic snicker. “Man, sorry about that. That wasn’t fair, but then again, you don’t fight fair.”
Burke let out a scowl, pushing Billy against the car and punching him harshly in the stomach. “Back off, ass-bags, I know how to use these!” Eugene snatched the nun chucks from Burke’s pocket and whipped them around before hitting himself with them.
Billy took the distraction and bolted away from the scene, the bullies about to start chasing them.
“Stop!” You screamed, pulling Brett back by his jacket.
He scowled at you, “let go, bitch!” he kicked you in the shin before running off to chase after Billy.
You whimpered in pain, clutching your shim as the boys left your view. “Freddy!” Your eyes lit up in remembrance, and tried your best to help him up.
“Take it easy,” Mary said while Pedro, Eugene and Darla helped Freddy up.
“I’m fine,” you mumbled, but you knew a bruise would start to form from where they hit you. Boy, did you hope Billy was okay.
***
You buried you head in your knees, hot tears flowing down your cheeks. The others were downstairs; Rosa was calling the police while Eugene and Mary were trying to find Billy online. Darla sat beside Mary, working hard on another craft project, while Pedro was doing… something.
If only you were stronger than this. Maybe if you had the strength to do something, Billy wouldn’t have run away. You wiped your face with your jumper sleeve, your eyes filling up with tears once more. Memories filled your head from before Rosa and Victor adopted you, and you choked back a sob.  You whimpered, clutching your stomach that Rosa had wrapped in bandages; there was already a purplish bruise growing at the surface.
‘You’re weak.’ A voice echoed from the back of your head. ‘You can’t even speak.’
“Yes I can…”
‘It’s your fault mom isn’t here anymore. It’s your fault dad is dead.’
***
“You’re a bastard!”
“Lauren, how much did you have to drink?”
You crouched down from behind the bookshelf, a frown on your face. Why wasn’t dad looking for you?
“You have some nerve showing up! How’s your little mistress, Soren? How is she?!” Your mother let out a scream, the weapon in her hands shaking.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t be an idiot! You’ve been seeing her, haven’t you?! That’s why you show up late every day!”
“Lauren, I’m not cheating on you.”
“LIAR!” And that was all you heard when a deafening bang echoed around the house. Everything was happening in slow motion; the bullet made its way to meet your father’s chest, and your mother was screaming. Or maybe that was you. Maybe you were the one who was screaming, whether it be from fear, sadness, or shock. You heard sirens in the distance, and you heard the gun in your mother’s hands clatter to the floor.
“Hey, are you alright?” You burst into tears.
“I would like to call the prime witness, (Y/N) (L/N), the defendant and victim’s daughter.”
‘Just tell the truth,’ you repeated the words the prosecutor had told you.
“Who hurt your dad, (Y/N)?” The prosecutor asked, fixing up his cravat.
You frowned, recalling the incident. “Mommy did.”
“SHE’S LYING!” Lauren screamed when the judge gave his conviction, “YOU’RE A LIAR, (Y/N)! YOU’RE A DISAPPOINTMENT! YOU’RE A TERRIBLE DAUGHTER!”
The tears that cascaded down your face dropped on the floor, and you felt a hand on your shoulder. “It’s going to be alright.”
“Will it, Mr. Miles?”
“Let’s get you home.”
***
You snapped out of your flashback when you heard a creaking on the stairs. “Billy?”
You didn’t hear an answer when you heard a thunder crack, cutting out the power. You let out a shriek, falling backwards on your bed when you heard footsteps at the door. “(Y/N)? Are you okay?”
“Freddy? Is that you?” Using your phone’s flash as a torch, you guided yourself to the door. “Billy!” You threw your arms around him before quickly pulling away. “Sorry, I forgot you didn’t like hugs,” you mumbled before slapping your mouth with a hand.
Freddy awkwardly patted Billy on the shoulder, before retreating to his room.
You turned to leave, when the brunet grabbed you by the arm. “Hey, I’m sorry for today. Did I worry you?” Opening and closing your mouth like a fish, all could do was nod. Tears began to brim your eyes and Billy began to panic. “Oh no, please don’t cry, I don’t wanna make two girls cry in the same day.” You manage a small giggle before going to pull your notebook from your pocket when Billy stopped you again. “Please talk to me.”
“Okay.”
***
You sat cross-legged on your bed, Billy sitting on your wheelie-chair at your desk. “It’s been a while since I had someone to talk to.”
“No offense, but I though you couldn’t talk,” he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
“None taken. Like Victor said, childhood trauma. I mean, seeing your dad get murdered is pretty big, don’t you think?”
“Your dad was murdered?”
“My mom killed him. Had too much to drink and pew, pew, pew. One second dad was playing hide and seek with me, the next he was on the floor bleeding while mom was being arrested. I was the main witness in the murder, so I had to stand at the witness stand. You know what she said to me as she was being dragged away?”
“What?”
“She said I was a disappointment and a terrible daughter,” you fell back on the bed, a long sigh escaping you. “Ever since then, I was too scared to talk in fear of ruining someone else’s life. Rosa and Victor changed that for me.” You let out a little yawn.
“You sound tired. Maybe you should go to bed.”
“Who knows when I can talk to you again?” You mumbled, your eyelids drooping.
“(Y/N), you can talk to me anytime.”
“Yay… we’re friends!”
“We always were.”
***
Fast forward a few days later, you were at the mall buying Christmas gifts. It was after school and you had dropped off your things at home. You still hadn’t bought anything for your family which, to you, was a pretty big problem. You were just buying yourself a muffin when you heard screaming coming in all directions. Within seconds, the glass roof of the mall had shattered, showering people with glass. People were running in different directions when you heard it.
“Billy!” Oh no.
You whipped around, only to see Freddy being attacked by a flying man. Wait, what? Doing your best to do it quietly, you followed them, creeping behind them as the man flew, holding Freddy by his hoodie.
“Billy,” the man growled, pushing Freddy roughly against a locker. You flinched at the sound, concealing yourself behind the door. The man took his sunglasses off, revealing a glowing blue ball where his right eye should be.
“S-super villain,” Freddy stuttered, “Super villain! Super villain!”
“Worse. Much worse.”
The boy began to ramble, “I won’t let you read my mind; my mind is blank!”
Banging Freddy’s head against the locker, the man sneered. “I don’t have to read your mind, because you are going to tell me. Where is he?”
Dark grey mist filled the room, slowly turning into figures. Three figures were there, one with huge bat-like wings, another with spikes covering its body, and another with a long slimy tongue. “HELP! HELP!” Freddy screamed, trying to pull away.
“If you don’t tell me,” the man said slowly, the creatures advancing towards the two, “they’ll kill you.”
The one with the tongue crept closer and was about to gnaw on Freddy’s arm, when you screamed. “STOP IT! STOP! He did nothing!”
“(Y/N)? (Y/N), get away from here, leave! (Y/N), get out!”
“Oh, if it isn’t another brave hero,” The man jeered, “(Y/N), was it? Word of advice: leave before I make you.”
“Let Freddy go! Take me instead!”
“Only if I get what I want.”
“(Y/N), get out, Billy would never forgive me if-” Freddy slapped a hand over his mouth when he realised what he had done.
“So our little champion has a girlfriend.” The man flew over to you and you cowered against the wall. “Tell me where I can find Billy.”
“Never!” You spat.
“I’ll tell you where it is if you let her go!” Freddy exclaimed.
“Tell me first,” he bargained, “then I’ll let her go.”
“208 (random street). Now let her go.”
Without saying anything, one of the locker doors opened up revealing a haunted temple. The creature hissed at you before being absorbed back into the man’s body, not without the winged one pushing Freddy to floor. The man grabbed you by the neck, cutting off your air supply, before taking hold of Freddy. You and Freddy were carried through the door, when the man pushed you against the ground, kicking at the bruise on your stomach. You gasped in pain while Freddy let out a scream.
“You said you’ll let her go!”
“I lied.”
The man threw you against the wall and the last thing you saw was him taking a struggling Freddy through the door before your vision became blurry and all you could see was black.
***
The door of a foster home was knocked on, and Freddy could hear the excitement from behind the door. “Freddy?” Darla asked upon seeing her brother with a tall bald man.
“Oh, how quaint!” Sivana watched as Mary pushed her brothers behind her. He took his glasses off. “Actually, I take that back. What a shithole.”
“Freddy, where’s (Y/N)?” Eugene demanded, as he was forced to sit on the couch.
“I don’t know.” The words tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop them while Sivana gave a sneer.
Taking out a black phone from his pocket, the mad doctor called a very specific number. “Come home, Billy. Come home.”
From the other side of the line, Billy could hear the screams of his family. Running up the stairs of his birth-mother’s apartment, he made his way to the roof. Without thinking twice, he jumped. “SHAZAM!”
***
You let out a gasp in pain, and you felt as if you were electrocuted. Your head was pounding and you felt as if your chest was on fire. This was not how you expected things to go. Then again, what were you expecting? Nothing less from a super-villain. You tried your best to get up, clutching your stomach in pain. Where in the world were you?
The dark walls of the temple seemed to loom over you, and you did your best to crane your head. A few ways in front of you were 7 large chairs, tall and regal. Thrones? Why the hell would someone need 7 thrones? You grunted as you made your way towards them, stepping over a glowing staff. Boy, did you hope they were comfy. When you sat upon one of the thrones, memories flooded into your head. Freddy. What happened to him? What about you family; are they safe? And what did that man want with Billy? That’s when it hit you.
The supervillain wanted Billy. He wanted him for one sole purpose. Another thought wandered into your head. “Nah, he can’t be gay.” So why… “Billy’s the power guy from YouTube.”
“(Y/N)…” A voice echoed. “Get up from the throne.”
You flinched, looking up. “Who’s there?”
“Get up from the throne.”
Panic coursed through your veins but you did as you were told. “Where are you?”
With a flash of blinding light, red embers were before you, in the shape of an old man. The staff that was once on the floor was in the man’s hand and you stepped backwards in shock. “Do not be afraid.”
You couldn’t speak. It seemed as if there was a force constricting your throat, preventing you from speaking. All you could do was nod.
“I am the wizard who gave Billy Batson his powers.”
“Is he okay?” You blurted, clapping a hand over your mouth.
“He will be fine. But you will not be. Sivana had cracked a rib and if it is not treated, you can die.” You watched as the embers brought its hand to the front, the staff glowing powerfully. “Put a hand on the staff and I will heal you.”
You glanced at the staff sceptically. “Are you sure you’re the expert on this?”
“Hand on the staff, (Y/N) (L/N), before it is too late.”
“Why am I so important?”
“You will bring the champion both his rise and his destruction. Without you, there is no Billy Batson.” Impatiently, he thrust the staff towards you. “Hand on the staff.”
“Okay, okay!” You did as you were told.
“Asclepius, tin therapefsei apo tis pliges tis! Tis doste ti dynsmi ns therspefsei o, ti synanta!” (Asclepius, heal her of her wounds! Give her the power to heal all she meets!) Lightning seemed to engulf you as the man said these words and you felt your rib, stomach and head tingle with warmth. Your eyes snapped opened to fond that the man was no longer there and the staff was on the ground.
“Okay… thanks sir! I feel a lot better!” You called out, hearing the echoes.
You heard footsteps approach, and you began to freak out. This was not funny. Before you could let out a yell, a deafening “YAAAAAAH!” was heard and a figure in red, yellow and white zoomed past you, kitting against one of the thrones. That had to hurt. The figure grunted, and before you could stop yourself, you asked, “Billy?”
The man struggled to get up, looking at you for a split second. “(Y/N), get out of here, before-”
He was cut off by you being thrown against the wall by a grey mist. “Look, the brat is still alive.” Silvana stopped to pick up the staff that was lying at his feet. “I dedicated my live to get here.” The crystal in the staff glowed an eerie white, and you watched in horror as he walked closer to Billy. “I scoured the earth. No one believed me. On one helped; not the wizard, not my family. I only had myself.”
“I get it,” Billy said desperately, climbing onto his knees, “I get what that’s like. Feeling like you’re all alone in the world.”
“Stand.”
“Feeling like there’s this one thing and if you could just find it, then you’ll finally be good enough.”
“Stand.”
Billy did as he was told.
“The champion’s name,” Sivana pounded the staff on the ground. “Say it.” The grey mist wafted into the air, taking for of the hellish creatures. You flinched as they snarled at the hero.
“Look, no offence, mister, but I don’t think these things have your best interest at heart,” Billy tried, but his word had no effect.
“Don’t listen to this child,” Lust hissed.
“Take the staff,” Wrath snarled, hitting Billy on the back.
“Hold it, and say the champion’s name,” Sloth growled.
“They’re using you,” Billy tried again; “You have to see that they are using you.”
From the corner of your eye, you saw Darla, Mary, Freddy, Pedro and Eugene creep into the scene, each carrying absurd weapons.
“Say your name.”
A harsh shring sounded and Sivana yelped as the batarang fell to the floor. “His name is Captain Sparke-Fingers,” Freddy said, trying to ignore the crack in his voice. You joined them, taking out a pen from your pocket.
Mary gave you a look of ‘seriously?’ and you rolled your eyes, pointing to the calculus book she had in her hands.
“And we’re gonna keep throwing things at your big, fat, ugly head until you let our brother go,” Darla snapped and you wanted to run over and hug the little girl while reprimanding her to not be so rude.
Thinking fast, Billy picked the batarang off the floor and imbedded it into Sivana’s right shoulder and throwing him against the wall. “Ooh, am I glad I didn’t sell that batarang,” Billy exclaimed, running down the stairs. “Pedro, is that a lamp?”
“It’s my only one.”
“Come on, come on, come on! (Y/N), you okay?”
“I’ll be fine,” you respond and the others were too freaked out to comment on your talkativeness.
“Guys, I appreciate the thought, but I don’t think your weapons are gonna help, you could put ‘em down now!” Captain Sparkle-Fingers cried out, turning a corner.
“The door was right here!” Eugene exclaimed.
“Billy, how do we get out of here?” Mary asked, exasperated.
“What, you think I know? I don’t know!”
Meanwhile, Darla was curiously wandering around the tunnels. “This way!” she yelled, pointing.
“Go, go, go, go, go, follow Darla! Good job, Darla!” Billy exclaimed, pushing his family into the tunnel. “Go, go, go, go…”
The six of you ran through the tunnels and over a brick bridge, Billy yelling out commands. Poor Freddy was doing more physical activity than he’s ever done in his life, while you were still wandering about what had happened before Billy and Sivana came through. Your group stopped at in a cave, gazing in amazement.
“Woah… so many doors…” Darla mumbled, staring at each one.
“One of these has to be a way out, right?” Mary asked hopefully, but you knew she was trying to make everything better.
“Yeah I would hope so,” Billy breathed out, eyes widening.
Eugene opened a dark oak door, revealing three crocodiles (alligators?) playing poker. The animals snapped their heads around before running for Eugene, who rushed to close the door. “Not this one.”
Pedro opened another door, and swirling smoke wisped around his feet. A small plant like creature poked out of the door, only for it to turn ugly and revealed its fang-like structures and lunging for Pedro. He closed it in a haste.
Mary and Darla opened a small square door, and the creature inside let out a roar.
“Okay, no more doors, nobody open anymore doors!” You exclaimed, throwing your hands up in exasperation.
“Come on, Billy, what are we gonna do?” Darla whined.
The boy- or man? - let out a sigh, “Darla, I don’t know!”
“Do what you used to do, just think! How did you get out last time?” Mary prompted desperately.
By now, everyone had crowded around the man in red. “Last time, I thought about the Subway and I was on the Subway!”
“That’s it then!” Freddy exclaimed, “Think about the Subway, think about any other place except for here!”
“You can do it, Billy,” you said, smile on your face.
Before anyone else could comment, Sivana advanced on your group. Lifting a hand, you saw his hand glow. Billy closed his eyes and you felt yourself grow dizzy for a split second, but when you opened your eyes, you were in… where were you? All you could hear was a poor excuse of music, all the while Billy pushing everyone out of the building.
“Really? This was the first place you could think of?” Mary reprimanded, hand covering Darla’s eyes.
“You’re welcome!”
“Where’s Freddy?” You asked.
At that moment, the said boy walked out of the building, yelling out, “you too sir, have a holly jolly Christmas!”
“Freddy, what are you doing?” Billy demanded.
“I was just- they were nice people!”
“Nice peop- never mind, come on!” Before any of you had walked 10 steps, an explosion sounded from behind you, and Sivana was in the air, carrying his staff. “Go, go, go, go, everybody go!” Billy huffed when he saw Freddy struggle. Proceeding to pick him up, he bolted to a carnival where he knew they should be safe for a while.
Yeah… well… not so much. Noticing Billy, people began to crowd around him. You shivered, your claustrophobia and social anxiety was not going to be happy.
“Are you the hero!?” “You’re the hero Power Storm!”
“Wait, no, he’s an impersonator!” Freddy exclaimed.
“Yeah! I’m an impersonation of myself!” Billy yelled and you were so close to hitting him. The crowd never wavered, asking multiple questions before he had enough. “Shazam!”
With a lightning strike and a puff of smoke, Billy was back to being Billy while the crowd wondered where the hero had gone. You lean in to whisper at the once-hero. “They’re thick, aren’t they?”
He nodded in agreement before pushing the others behind a wooden stall. “Champion!” A voice yelled from above, attracting people’s attention. “You don’t deserve that name; hiding behind innocent people who will now die, because deep down, you’re just a scared little boy.”
“Don’t listen to him, Billy,” You whispered, “you’re stronger than he makes you out to be.”
“RUN!” A voice yelled, and people began to clamour from their spots.
Sivana used the staff to send lightning at different parts in the carnival, one being the centre of the Ferris wheel.  The wire holding the wheel to the ground was slowly tensioned, and the riders let out a scream.
“Well,” Billy began, turning to Freddy, “you wanted me to be a hero.”
“Are you kidding?” the boy demanded, “okay, no, old guys up there who is harbouring multiple spiritual entities, plus, I mean, he has the same powers as you, plus, he knows what he’s doing, plus, I mean, you’re my best friend and I don’t want you to die…”
“If a superhero can’t save his family…” he looked at the rest of his siblings before locking eyes with you. “He’s not much of a hero.”
He stepped out of his hiding spot, readying himself before yelling, “SHAZAM!” Within seconds, He had Sivana on the ground, exclaiming, “we’ll try that again!” He looked at Freddy with a bright grin, as if to say, ‘good?’
The boy shrugged his shoulders while the man gave an exasperated sigh. He was about to say something else, when Freddy let out a scream. “BILLY LOOK OUT!”
Said man ducked, springing upright and gaping at his family, “Laser eyes?! Guys, he has laser eyes! Too bad your aim sucks balls!”
Without warning, two arms sprang out from behind him, pulling him against the wooden building. The thing jumped out and threw the hero harshly to the ground, letting out a roar. Freddy watched the old man walk towards where Billy had landed, his eyes lighting up in realisation. “That’s his power matrix.”
“His what-what?” Eugene asked.
“When the demon guys leave his eye, he loses his power… that’s why the batarang hurt him.”
You were about to respond when Mary had to open her mouth. “Hey! Over here!”
“Wait, what are you doing?!”
“Trust me, dividing conquer. We separate the sins from the eye and he’s just an old man.”
The six of you watched in horror as the sins emerged in grey smoke, each letting out terrible screeches. You bolted into the carnival as you heard all your siblings being snatched one by one. Man, you should have payed more attention in gym. You ducked from Pride who grabbed hold of Eugene and while Greed snatched Darla from Mary. ‘RUN, RUN, RUN!’ Your mind screamed, all the while your lungs were begging for a small break. You tried your best to even out your breathing and ignoring the burning in your chest when you realised. You weren’t tired. Why the hell were you not tired?
You sprinted over to the pin ball area, Mary right on your heels. “Where… did you learn… to run like that?” Mary breathed and you shrugged in response.
You turned your attention to Sivana who was repeatedly dunking Billy’s head under water, basically drowning him. Thinking fast, you shoved a quarter (or dollar) into the machine while Mary took hold of it. “Hey.” As soon as Silvana’s head turned, she fired.
You froze as Sivana caught the little ball in between his pointer finger and his thumb when you heard a soft growling from behind you. “Ah, shit.”
You let out a scream as Gluttony dragged you into a tent where all your other siblings were being held against their will. “Nice trick,” Sivana said, “catchy. One simple word. I have a better trick. Three words,” he turned to Gluttony with a sneer, “kill the girlfriend.” (PLOTTWIST, IT TRIES TO EAT MARY)
Your siblings let out screams as you felt Gluttony’s slimy tongue stretch and you tried your best to pull away. From beside you, you heard Mary’s pleads to stop while you heard your other siblings crying out in desperation.
“STOP!” Billy yelled and Gluttony put you down. You let out a gasp, falling to your knees, your legs giving way. You felt Wrath drag you in front of him and you let out a whimper.
“Billy, there’s one more demon guy in his eye!” Freddy exclaimed. “You just gotta rip it out of its face hole -” He was cut off by Sloth’s fingers wrapping over his mouth.
“It’s where he gets his power,” Mary continued.
“Reach for it,” Sivana said in a whisper, “I dare you.” Instead, Billy got onto his knees while Sivana nodded in victory, “wise decision. Hands on the staff.”
“Don’t do it Billy!”
“Billy, don’t do this, Billy!”
Ignoring their pleas, the hero placed a hesitant hand on the staff. You looked up to find all the sins but Wrath be absorbed into Sivana’s body and fear forced its way into your heart. Billy grasped the staff firmly on the staff. While Sivana was distracted, the hero flipped the staff out of his hands and hit him in the chest, pushing the villain to the ground. Wrath let out a roar and took hold of your waist, holding you roughly as it ran off. You let out a shriek, eyes squeezed together. Just as you though all hope was lost, you heard lightning strike.
Wrath growled, turning back to the tent it was just on. You took this to your advantage and wiggled your way out before sprinting as fast as you could away from the sin. Oh hell no were you gonna be eaten today.
You ran to the only place you thought was safe- the tent. Come on, who doesn’t want to be near a superhero while the world was being annihilated. You found yourself nearing the tent when there was a crash. A girl wearing a purple jumpsuit and white cape whizzed past you. That’s when you saw the sins emerge. Wrath was battling a green hero and you couldn’t help but groan. “Ah, shit.”
A blue hero flew past you, Pride just behind him. You could hear people creaming as the winged creature hit the Ferris wheel, causing some of the screw to fling off. Panic over took you. What were you supposed to do? Run away? Get the heroes to save them? Apparently you didn’t need to tell anyone; they already saw. One lady was falling with a yell, when the purple hero rushed – quite literally – and saved her.
“Hi! Wow, I caught you!” While she ran to get you to safety, you hid in a booth.
You should be safe… right? Pulling your phone out, you decided to film the whole thing. Might as well broadcast it.
***
You quietly emerged from your hiding place when you saw the red one – Billy – pull the eye out of Sivana. People from all over the carnival let out cheers of thanks and congratulations, and you clapped loudly yourself. The five other heroes flew down to meet their leader, and that’s when you realised. Your siblings were heroes?! So this is what happens when people get abducted.
Moments later, you found yourself face to face with the 6 heroes. “Billy!” You grinned, jumping up and down. “I’d hug you, but I can’t take you seriously like that.” You laughed, looking at the other heroes. “Hey, guys!”
“(Y/N), you’re alright!” Freddy (the blue one, you assumed) exclaimed.
“Yeah, I’m okay. You’re a superhero! Didn’t think your 5 year old birthday wish would come true,” you grinned up at him. “Pedro, Mary, Eugene, Darla! You all look so good!”
“Thanks!” Darla (the purple one?) giggled.
“Where now?” Mary asked, looking around, “where are we going to put the Eye?
Billy just grinned. “I know a place.”
With a flash of blinding light, the 7 of you found yourself back in the haunted cave. “You sure this is gonna work?” Eugene asked, forever the sceptic.
When Billy placed the eye on its stand, coral like structured encompassed it, and the 7 deadly sins were put back in their designated statues.
“You guys know what this place is, right?” Freddy asked, excitement lighting up his eyes.
“A dark haunted cave with demon statues,” Darla muttered while the others nodded in agreement.
The blue hero slowly nodded. “Well, yes, but also…”
He looked at Billy expectantly. “Lair! We gotta lair!”
The others grinned and chatted in excitement while you wandered to the thrones. “Is there supposed to be another hero?”
Eugene counted the thrones in his head. “7 thrones, 6 heroes…”
Ashes quickly began to swirl around you and you gazed at them in wonder. “That’s him!” Billy exclaimed, “that’s the Wizard!”
“Obviously,” the ashes said. “As you can see, there are 7 thrones. Mary is the Wisdom of Solomon. Pedro is the Strength of Hercules. Eugene is the Power of Zeus. Freddy is the Courage of Achilles. Darla is the Speed of Mercury. Billy is all of these powers.” Each sat at their designated thrones, leaving you at the bottom of the stairs. Just as you were about to pipe up, the Wizard cut you off. “Do not think I had forgotten you, young child. You are holding these heroes together. Without you they are nothing. You are the Stamina of Atlas and the Healing of Asclepius. Together, the 7 of you will protect the earth. Together, you are the saviours. Until we meet again, dear heroes,” with that, the Wizard’s ashes were blown away.
You awkwardly shuffled in your seat. “You think we can go now?”
***
The next day, you and your family took their seats at the dining table. Things had happened, to say the least. You sat beside Billy, and you felt him squeeze your hand from other the table. You offered a smile.
“Guys,” Billy piped up, attracting all their attention. “All hands on deck.” With exclaims from Rosa and Victor, Billy began his prayer. “Thank you for this food. Thank you for this day. And thank you for this family. And, maybe this time I’ll stay.” They all pulled their hands back, Billy continuing to speak. “Because after all. I’m home.”
EXTENDED ENDING (you know what I’m talkin’ about)
School the next day was, as usual, utter crap, especially for Freddy. Ever since the Human Power Storm didn’t show up to lunch a few days prior, things were hell. Billy had a bad cough that morning and stayed home, and you had different classes to him, leaving him alone. He wandered into the cafeteria with his tray and taking a seat at the back table. Almost immediately the people who were once occupying the seats had left.
You took a seat across from him.
“What are you doin’,” you heard Brett ask, “Waiting for your imaginary BFF to show up?”
Burke snickered and stole one of Freddy’s fries (or chips), shoving his head. Seconds later, Eugene, Mary, Darla and Pedro appeared taking their seats.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“Why, we’re having lunch with you,” Mary said, pretending to be offended.
“I thought you had different lunch periods.”
“Well, we made a very special arrangement.”
The boy side-eyed Darla. “Darla, what’s going on?”
“Why are you asking me?”
“Freddy Freeman!” A deep voice called out and said boy let out a snort, covering his face with the back of his hand. The kids let out exclaims of delight while the hero continued to speak. “This guy taught me everything I know about being a dope superhero, true story; you should get a few pointers from him.” He took a seat beside the curly haired boy. “What’s going on, my best bud, in the whole world, and also new kids who I’m meeting for the first time who also seem really cool.”
You exchange looks with Darla who was grinning ear to ear. You knew what was coming up next.
“I invited another friend, I hope that’s okay.”
A man in a blue costume with a diamond logo began to walk towards the table. Oh, if only you could see Brett and Burke’s face.
Freddy turned around, only to see his idol. He jumped ten feet.

Inspired by Take On Me (acoustic version) by A-ha
Warnings: Cursing , Fluff and a dash of Smut (18+ Older!!)
I left his car and walked into my house. I quickly unlocked the door and went upstairs towards my room. I pulled out a backpack from my closet and shoved in whatever clothes I could find. I began to dig into my drawers finding my black one piece swim suit. I packed in my PJs and other clothes in my bag. I walked over to the bathroom and took my tooth brush and the essentials . I shoved everything into the bag and hooked it over my shoulder.
I rushed out of the door and made a bee line to his house. I threw my up my hood and placed dark glasses over me incase my aunts car came by.  I went on the other side of the house and found the back door. It was open and I snuck inside. I walked around the pool and notice there was a jacuzzi beside it. I saw Josh through his sliding glass door. His house was gorgeous. I gently tapped on his window catching his attention.
“I’m really loving this spy vs spy look you got going.” josh greeted as he opened the door to let me in.
“I owe you one,” I spoke as he locked the door behind him.
“Let me take your sweater,” he spoke as I handed it to him, “I got some movies and popcorn for us.”
My mouth dropped as I saw his elaborate living room. It was like something out an Ikea spread. A flat screen tv hanged above the fire place as neatly decorated furniture was scattered about. A little corner of the room was filled to the shelves with books along with a cosy bench window seat. It connected with a large kitchen covered in stainless steel and wood.
“You have a nice place,” I complimented looking at the oak dining table.
“Thanks. Im trying to get a theme going, along the lines of rustic but home-ish??”
I titled my head, “So like city meets little house on the Prairie??”
“I have no fucking clue,” he shrugged as he pulled out two beers.
I chuckled, “Well that’s one way to put it. Your pool is really nice and a jacuzzi too.”
“Yea,” He answered, “If you want we could go night swimming?”
“That sounds amazing,”
“Perfect,” he smiled.
I felt a smirk tug at my lips. He brought out a beer and a wine glass and lightly patted the spot next to him. I placed my bag on the floor and sat next to him.
“What movies you got?” I asked as I eyeballed the DVD’s on this table.
“Let’s see I got mad max, kill bill, crimson peak, I recently got avengers infinity war,” he spoke holding up.
“Oh nice, have you watched it yet?” I asked.
“No not yet. You wanna watch it?”
“Of course but just be warned to be ready for a world of hurt.”
“Don’t tell me anymore,” josh chuckled as he placed it in the tv.
He came back and set out the chips and candy. We made ourselves comfortable as we watched the movie. I poured myself a glass of wine knowing how bad this movie would play out. I could feel Josh’s arm wrap around my shoulders, his fingers tips tracing circles around my shoulder. I smiled as I nestled onto his chest. Although I had seen this movie josh was purely invested in it. I knew cuddling was not going to last. I scooted away as he watched the intense fight scene between Thanos and hulk. Suddenly it came to the scene of Loki and the tesseract.
“No,” josh whispered in shock, “Oh no...”
I hid my smile as he gazed at the screen. Then came Loki’s death. I heard him gasping his hand on his mouth in disbelief. I chuckled and reached for my beer. He turned towards me, “He’s coming back right?? Y/n tell me that little shit is coming back??”
“I don’t know babe,” I spoke taking a slip. I stopped in mid drink. The terms of endearment just naturally rolled off my tongue with him.
“This whole movie is unbelievable,” he whispered as he now was leaning against me.
Within the next minutes of the movie I could hear josh mumble a few curse words. More or less of holy shit or I can’t. From his cheering on captain America, to his laughter at Thor and Peter quills pissing contest. It was heaven. Until it came to the horrible ending scene. Josh was now leaning forward his hand on my knee while the other under his chin. His eyes widen as Thanos delivered his last line to Thor. Then came to the snap.
Josh's hand went to his mouth, “Y/n what’s happening?!”
“Just watch the movie.”
“Babe I swear-,” he had paused as he saw Bucky Barnes turn to dust, “OH MY GOD!!”
I watched with a smile as he yelled in heartbreak.
“NOO!!”, he shouted in disbelief as he saw Peter Parker turn into dust, “WHAT THE FUCK?! NOT SPIDEY!”
Soon thanos appeared on the screen. Josh quickly grabbed my popcorn and threw a piece at the screen, “That purple son of a bitch!”
The screen went to after credits. Josh sat back and covered his face with his palms.
“You alright love?” I asked rubbing his back.
“No,” he spoke as he slumped back to his chair, “I have another year to see captain marvel kick that shriveled raisins ass.”
I laughed as his rested his head on my shoulder. He sighed heavily and went to TV.
“That was majorly depressing,” josh spoke ejecting the DVD.
“What would make you happy??” I asked as I placed my glass on the table.
Josh looked behind me, “Wanna take a dip in the jacuzzi??”
I looked back at the pool then at him,”That sounds fun.”
“Put on your bathing suit and meet me outside.”
He kissed the corner of my lips and went up the stair case. I went for my bag and grabbed my black one piece and went to the bathroom. As I switched on the light my jaw dropped. Everything was in pure marble and steel. Even the guest restroom decor was like a 5 star suite. I could only imagine what his bedroom looked liked. I could hear him shuffle and the door open and close.
I stripped out of my clothes and slipped on my swimsuit. I felt the cold chill as I walked out house and into the backyard. Off in the corner was the jacuzzi. Josh was already heating the water. Off to the side I notice there was a bottle of beer and my wine glass. He glanced over his shoulder, “Just heating up the water hun.”
I walked over to him as I crossed my arms over my chest. I began to shift my weight on my heels as another cold breeze blew through.
“How much longer?”
“It should be better now,” he spoke as he dipped his foot in. “Yup it’s warms enough.”
He walked in and I followed. I hummed in enjoyment as I felt the hot water engulf my goose-nipped skin.
“This feels so good,” I hummed as I closed my eyes.
“It does, doesn’t it?” josh spoke as he did the same, “You want some bubbles?”
“Please!”
He chuckled as he pressed a button to the side of him. A sudden rush of bubbles came into the jacuzzi along with a power water jet that began to massage into my back. I closed my eyes as I felt the knots in my back unwind.
“Oh my god josh this is perfect,” I spoke as it went lower, “Honestly your house is goals and this is the cherry on top.”
“You think so?” He asked.
“Absolutely, I could only dream about owning a house like this,” I complimented taking my wine, “I’ll probably be in so much debt though, not that I’m already am. I mean at this rate I’ll be lucky enough to find a flat.”
“Y/n if you need money I could give you some.”
I paused before taking another sip. There was no single hint doubt in his voice.
“You know I can’t ask that of you.” I placed the glass beside me. “I don’t want your money.”
“I know you don’t, that’s why I’m offering it.” Josh spoke in such a confidence even I couldn’t understand. He placed his beer behind him and moved in front of me. He placed his arms on the either side of me, so I wouldn’t have a choice but to look at him. I stood in silence for moment searching his face for any hint of doubt or joke. His brown eyes searching mine, “What are you thinking about?”
“You can’t be serious.”
“I am y/n.”
“Josh it’s not right. I can’t ask that of you. You’d be like my sugar daddy or something, it’s not fair of me to ask that. I couldn’t….”
My voice drifted off as I tried breaking his gaze but he titled his head catching it once more.
“Y/n, You haven’t given me a good reason not to trust you with my money. In fact you’ve proven me the opposite.”
I sighed heavily. He wasn’t wrong but this didn’t feel entirely too right either. His hand went down to my thigh resting on them while his bad hand remained to the side of me.
“You’ve forgotten what it’s like to be care of..” He gently whispered.
My eyes snapped up at him. I could feel his eyes strip away piece by piece of what I had kept away inside.
“W-what?”
“You heard me,’’ he affirmed.
I did. I heard him loud and clear. Josh’s hand came out of the water and cupped my face. His fingers caressed my jaw as though I’d slip away from him. I could feel his breath graze against my lips.
“Whatever burden you carry it’s mine now, understand? I don’t want you to worry about your loans or all that other bullshit okay? I wanna help you,” he offered, “Let me take care of you.”
I watched his eyes flick to my gaze then to my lips. He leaned forward and I was captured in his kiss. I hungrily kissed him back as he explored my mouth. I wrapped my arms around his neck as his hands moved my legs around his waist. His back was now against the wall while I sat on his lap. We broke apart trying to catch a breath.
“Okay,” I breathed.
“You gotta say it baby,” he spoke looking up at me.
His soulful brown eyes were shining now.
“I’ll let you take care of me.” I leaned down and captured his lips once more. His hands ran up my spine as his lips went to my neck. I bit my lip as an arousal began to build between my legs. I slowly moved my hips against his crotch, testing the waters first. Josh’s breath began hitch and his hand began travel up towards my breasts. I gasp in pleasure as his large hand began to palm my breast while the other gripped onto my ass. I could feel his cock began to stiffen as his hips began to grind against mine.
I want this, I wanted him. But something wasn’t right.
“Josh, w-wait.” I brought my hand up to his chest and he paused.
“What is it?” He spoke catching his breath.
“Can we go inside?” I asked breathlessly.
“Y-yea of course,” he replied, “Whatever your comfortable with kitten.”
He began to reach for the controller and turned off the jacuzzi. I began to fidget with my hands as I suddenly remembered he was going to a different side of me. He turned back towards me and rose a brow, “Is there something else??”
“Yea, I-uh??” I stammered as my mind began to race elsewhere. Just exactly how prepared was I for this?? My cheeks began to turn a slight pink as the fire from my chest began to sizzle out. I took a breath as I steadied my thoughts “Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve done this. Well, not a while, more like a 5 years but that’s not the point. The point is, is that I want this is be special. With you. I’d like to just take it slow with you.”
“Sweetheart If you’re not ready that’s okay,” he spoke assuringly.
“The thing is I am ready,” I admitted, “And I really want to with you. I just need some time to prepare. Like a shower.”
“I understand,” Josh smiled softly and kissed my cheek, “Thank you for telling me. God you’re so beautiful when you blush.”
“Quit it,” I spoke lightly splashing the water against his face.
“Even with that dark and brooding attitude,” he spoke kissing my nose, “Cute little softie.”
“Alright that’s enough,” I chuckled.

Fic: Over Breakfast
A/N: The idea was conceived during @frangipanidownunder ‘s @just-fic-already character workshop last week. It has been rewritten twice and it's close to what I intended but not really. I don't know if it is any good but I had fun writing it so I hope you enjoy. I tried to catch the typos. Hopefully, I got most of them. Oh and this is pure season 7 MSR fluff.
Tagging @today-in-fic
Scully hated layovers especially when it could mean she could in her bed a few minutes longer or not having to deal with Beltway traffic out to Dulles. and the fact that they hadn't even left the capital. At least the company was good this morning. As she sat in the C Gate bar and restaurant with Mulder next to her, they shared a breakfast sandwich between them and coffee. He flipped The Washington Post looking for the sports section.
"Aha!" He plucked the prized section from the rest of the pile. "I've missed the game last night and I want to see how the game ended."
"Was last night's view disappointing?"
She felt Mulder take her hand and squeeze it tenderly. "If your reactions were any indication for both of us then I consider it a night well spent. And I might pat myself on the back."
"Don't break your arm doing it."
The intimacy was a new thing for them. Ever since the new year, Scully was not quite what sure what to do with herself. It had only been a month since the mysterious alien artifact and when everything between them changed. Not that she was complaining. Not only did she experience a reawakening of her sexual life (more like a rebirth) but the shift between them grew more intimate like an old married couple.
"Haha, Scully. Do you want the entertainment section?"
"Sure," she answered and pilfered through the pile of newspaper. "Do you know how domestic this feels?"
"It feels just right." He flicked the paper trying to straighten the section. "Well, I lied. It's better."
"I would kiss you if we weren't in public," she said softly, opening the entertainment section. "But you know. Rules."
"I would take you back into one of those booths and be quick and fast, no matter who is here," he countered calmly as he turned the page in the newspaper.
"Maybe if we hit O'Hara on the way back," she murmured. She flicked open the entertainment section as Mulder fished for his half of their shared breakfast. Her eyes scanned the basics...new museum openings, soft news stories, reviews but something else caught her eye. "'Is He Worth It? A Quiz for Dating,'" she read out loud.
Mulder's eyes darted towards her. "What?"
"It's like one of those dating quizzes but..." She skimmed the article. "It's a bunch of suggested questions for first dates." She flicked another page looking for horoscopes to see if tonight she might be lucky. "It's silly."
"I could go on about it with psychology, Scully. Let's do it."
"Why, Mulder?"
"We aren't going anywhere. Come on."
She smiled and flipped the page back while rolling her eyes. "Okay. First question." She scanned over the beginning and settled on one of the middle questions. "What is your favorite scent?"
"What kind of question is that?"
"Just answer it."
"Sunflower seeds and you."
"You're being vague."
"I'm being safe. Your turn."
"When you cook us dinner and us."
"Us as in..."
"Keep your dirty mind clean," she scolded.
He chuckled and for good measure squeezed her ass. Scully felt her cheeks flush red and warmth rush to her core. "I would slap you if I could."
"You won't. Next question."
She licked her lips as Mulder turned the page in the sports section. "Times a wasting, Scully."
"Dogs or cats?"
"It doesn't actually say that."
She titled her newspaper section towards him and nodded encouragingly. "It does."
"Fine," he conceded after reading the blurb. "Dogs."
"Cats."
"Cats, Scully?"
"After Queequeg." She shrugged. "They're more independent and less likely to be eaten by alligators." He laughed out loud, almost spilling his coffee as Scully hid her grin behind her newspaper. "Besides, you remind of a cat as often as we end up sleeping on top of each other."
"I wouldn't have it any other way. Next question, Scully."
"What did you do to get grounded for the first time?"
He pursed his lips in thought."Playing a prank on Sam when I was seven."
"What was the prank?"
"Doesn't matter. Your turn."
She licked her lips letting him slide. "Getting caught smoking by the nuns for the first time as a freshman."
"You smoked?"
"I had a rebellious phase, Mulder. I wanted to be more than the science geek and try and be one of the popular kids. I wasn't an athlete. Following in Missy's shadow was hard. I didn't have my first boyfriend until my senior year with Marcus when I..." She blushed. "Well, we can trade the inevitable losing our virginity stories another time."
"I won't ask."
"But yes, I had a little rebellious streak and occasionally listened to music, excuse me, the devil's music that the nuns frowned upon."
He chuckled, turned his head, and rested his cheek on a propped up arm. "I think we would have been best friends in high school, Scully."
"But we wouldn't have what we have now."
"Mind-blowing sex?"
She hit his arm playfully. "Quiet!" She lowered her voice. "Yes and everything else."
"It's not like anyone knows us here, Scully. Next question."
"Fine. Reading in the bath or reading in the bathroom?"
Mulder looked like he was seriously contemplating the question, artfully stroking his chin as he churned over different thoughts. Scully laughed at his absurdity. "Neither. Couch unless you're sharing the bath with me, Scully."
"Shut up, Mulder. Tub, obviously. You know I love my baths."
"This little first date questionnaire is giving me nothing but ideas. Screw getting to know your date. This should be...dating ideas or something."
"Obviously you need more coffee because that makes no sense. Next question. Who would you invite to a dinner party? You get five guests."
"Two problems with that: who throws dinner parties and do we even know five people?" Mulder began to count one finger at a time. "Let me think now. The gunmen, you, Skinner..."
"What the hell, Mulder? How come I am not the first one that comes to your mind? In that case, Bill---"
"Oh no."
"Oh yes. My mother, Father McCue..."
"Fine. Just you. Us. We can get dinner and forget the party."
"You need to take me a dinner soon by the way. A real dinner and not the habitual sharing of the meals that we typically do. Next question. Walk on the beach or walk in the forest?"
"Forest," Mulder answered with hesitation.
"Oh hell no. It's a simple trip to the forest my ass, Mulder. Beach."
"Why the beach?"
"I like the ocean."
"Okay, for you, the beach. Just this once. Mark it under future date or weekend getaways to do with Scully."
"I would like that very much, particularly the weekend getaway. You know we're only a couple of hours from the coast in D.C."
"Dually noted." He tapped his head. "Next question."
"First gig and last movie?" Her face contorted with confusion as she squinted at the paper to make sure did not misread the print. "What is that supposed to mean? Never mind. We're skipping that question. Okay. Worst lie you ever told?"
Mulder folded the sports section and glanced down to their shared breakfast as his half of the sandwich and then back to her. "During your little rebellion period. I wasn't staring at you. Or should I say spying." His eyebrows waggled suggestively. "In the shower."
Her brow furrowed in thought trying to understand what he was referencing to. She remembered that after her little rebellion with the tattoo her and Mulder had been forced to share a motel room with a bathroom that lacked a door for some reason. "What the f...Mulder! I had sex with Jerse the and you were off being a peeping Tom trying to get back at me."
"What?"
Scully flashed him a sly smile. "Gotcha." Mulder frowned with disproval while his partner continued to smirk. "You know I didn't have sex with him. Or Padgett. I'll let you get me back later. Okay, okay. My worst lie though? When I ruined Ahab's dress whites with my mother's red nail polish one time and blamed it on Bill and he had it coming."
"You little hellion."
"Moving on, Mulder. What do you dream about?"
Mulder grew quiet as he let his thoughts wander as he recalled the almost fatal brain surgery months ago. "Simple things. You. Sunflower seeds. You. Baseball. A happy ending."
Scully grew warm. "Remember that night in the office when we first...after our little baseball date? You scored a home run."
"Yes." Mulder smiled in fondness. "Very much so."
"Well, aside from our good times, I had a nightmare once Skinner interrupted us because he wanted to watch us like a sporting match. Who's gonna come in first?" Despite her blushing, Scully was grinning from ear to ear.
"Ugh. Don't make me picture that. That's horrible, Scully."
"Good thing I can finish multiple times."
"It's a good thing I see to you first."
She patted his shoulder fondly. "You're a true gentleman, Mulder. Now, moving on. What song do you want to be played at your funeral?"
Mulder grew quiet as he remembered the time he had to pick out headstones with her mother and grimaced. It was something he did not want to experience again or even think of. "Not fair, Scully. You're immortal, remember?"
Scully looked down at the newspaper and folded it closed. He watched the blues of her eyes change from mirth to seriousness. "I had to plan your funeral once or twice, Mulder, don't forget that. Even if it wasn't real. The mushroom made it feel like it and I don't think it is something I could go through with again.
He took a deep breath and squeezed her hand again. "And I had to go picking out headstones with your mother."
She took a deep breath. "It's something I don't want to think about."
Mulder licked his lips thoughtfully. "Let's do this. Why don't we pick one song that we can both agree on? What about that one song? It was written by the Foo Fighters. I heard it not too long ago. What was it?" He snapped his fingers trying to recall the title. "Walking After You."
She smiled. "I would like that and I think that would be perfect." Uncharacteristically, she gave him a chaste kiss on the cheek in public. "Next time you stay the weekend, we read the Sunday paper over breakfast."
"I could go along with that," he agreed with a boyish grin. "And we should definitely do this more often."

Tsuyu: I’m home. Kero.
Beru: Welcome back sweetie. Your father and I are making dinner. We are hav...ing... Ribbit? *Beru smiles as she turned the corner wearing her apron to see her daughter only to be surprised that she was not alone.*
Izuku: H-Hello Asai-san. It is a pleasure t-to meet you. Sorry f-for the intrusion. I’m M-Midoriya Izuku. *Izuku nervously stutter bowing to Beru. with a blush.*
Tsuyu: *Tsuyu watched her mother look at her love then at her and then back at him then back at her while pointing at him causing Tsuyu to let out a sigh.* As e said he is Midoriya Izuku, the one that I told you are was meeting up with earlier today. Dad invited him to dinner when he was causing spying on us. *Tsuyu explained before adding while taking hold of the nervous hero’s hand.* Oh and just to have it out of the way now, Izuku is my boyfriend. Kero.
Beru: *At first the young couple watched as the older frog woman start at them with a trademark Asai stare, unmoveing like a statue, when looking up and placing her finger on her chin and muttering.* That would explain why Ganma insisted we cook so much curry. *She then stepped forward to Izuku returned the bow to the still bowing hero.* Its a Pleasure to meet you as well Midoriya. I’m Asai Beru but please call me Beru. My Daughter me a lot about your heroic fetes. Now if you could go and please wait in the living room I would like a moment to talk to Tsuyu and scold my husband for spying. Which I apologize for. Its an old habit of his. Ribbit.
Izuku: Now I see where Tsuyu gets her bluntness from. *He thought to himself also think how cute it is that they all croaked in different ways.* O-Oh okay. Sure. Th-Thank you As-Uh, Beru-san. *Izuku said, still blushing as she looked at his girlfriend who gave him a nod signalling him it was okay as he and the two Asai walked down the hall showing him to the living room, to which he took as seat on the couch before being left alone. However, he soon realized that he was in fact not alone when he noticed two small heads peaking over the arm of the couch, Izuku keeping himself from jumping in surprise before smiling and giving a small wave to his loves younger siblings.* Hello. You must be Samidare and Satsuki right? Your sister told me a lot about you two. I’m Midoriya Izuku. It’s nice to meet you both.
Satsuki: *The two children stared at the the green haired hero for a moment before the little girl turned to her brother and whispered loud enough for Izuku to hear.* Where is his crown and why isn’t he glowing gero?
Izuku: Huh?
Samidare: *Whispers back to his sister, which Izuku can still hear.* Satsuki, just because Sis calls him her prince charming doesn’t mean he is a actual prince. Don’t know why he isn’t glowing though?
Izuku: Glowing?
Satsuki: *The little girl and boy then hopped onto the couch, Samidare taking a seat as Satsuki to pock his cheeks and patted his hair.* Hey Prince charming, Sis said that you glow. Why aren’t you glowing? Do you need to rechange?
Izuku: *It took a few second to realize what she was talking about when it clicked him his head and said.* Oh. You must mean quirk. I glow when I activate it.
Samidare: Is that why you don’t get all muscular like All Might, kero?
Izuku: Eh? *Izuku exclaimed, staying calm but still panicking slight that Tsuyu maybe have told her family about One for All, he telling her the truth of his quirk to make sure not to keep any secrets between them.*
Samidare: Sis mentioned that she thought your quirk was similar to All Might’s quirk because its so powerful.
Izuku: *Izuku let out a small sigh of relief that Tsuyu kept his secret, he knew she would, and smiled.* Y-Yeah. That’s right. Al though because it is so like All Might he is teaching me how to use my quirk like his. *It was at this moment the two frog siblings stopped and stared in shock at Izuku.*
Samidare: You know All Might? Personally?
Izuku: Well yeah... He’s, uh, kinda dating my mom too. *Then after a moment of silence Satsuki got up and sat in Izuku’s lap and Samidare right next to him leaning in close.*
Satsuki/Samidare: Tell us everything.
~MEANWHILE! In the kitchen~
Beru: What. Have. I. Told. You. About. Spying? *Beru frowned at her husband who sat on a chair taking a tongue lashing, literally.*
Ganma: I-ow-am-ow. Sor-ow-ry. Gerow! *Ganma apologize between each tongue karate chop to his head.*
Beru: You should be. Ribbit. We are not into the PSIA anymore. Can could have gotten in a lot of trouble if caught.
Tsuyu: To be fair on that front, I don’t think he would have if Izu’s asking for permission to kiss me didn’t surprise him enough to make him croak. *Tsuyu chimed in only to have her mother whip away towards her making her gulp.*
Beru: This brings us to you young lady. *Her voice started firm and strict but quickly softened.* Why didn’t you tell us the truth?
Tsuyu: *Tsuyu’s gaze moved down to the floor.* In full honesty, I’m not entirely sure myself. On one hand I was afraid that you two would disapprove of me dating or worse of me dating Izu since he is my first boyfriend and scare him away.
Ganma: We’ll wait and see about that GerOW! *Ganma said only to get whipped by her wife’s tongue.*
Beru: Sorry please continue.
Tsuyu: Well  I assure you both he is a great and kind boyfriend, always thinking of my happiness and safety first. Always helping out others. So Bravo and will to put himself in harms way to save everyone especially me. *Tsuyu smiles with a slightly blush.* Plus, he admires me and doesn’t find my frog features ugly. If fact, I even walked in on him defending me to a class B student talking about how beautiful and perfect he thinks I am. I even recorded some of it Kero. *Tsuyu added pulling out her phone and showing her parents the clip of Izuku ranting about how amazing her quirk is as it turns to how beautiful and cute she is when someone points out Tsuyu record him causing him to turn bright red and freeze with embarrassment while trying to hide his face.* That’s my favorite part Kero.<3
Ganma: Hmm I still need to interrogate him though does he always act like this? Gero.
Beru: He is like a puppy if you turned them into a human. Ribbit. *Beru smiled before asking.* So what was the other reason why you did tell us the truth about having a boyfriend?
Tsuyu: Well... *Tsuyu now her neutral express turning to one of embarrassment.* I... Kind liked having the privacy of a secret relationship. Just being able to be with Izu without a worry in the world so we can go of dates, hold hands, share hugs and kisses, and cuddle and not worry about being spied on. *Tsuyu looked up to see both parents slacked jaws and shocked.* Kero?
Ganma: Ts-Tsuyu...What Exactly do you mean by “Cuddle”?
Tsuyu: What do you mean? *She asked think that it was pretty straight forward, remember her and Izuku cuddling in his bed while watching a movie.*
Beru: Honey. Do. Do need to have the talk? *Beru questioned.*
Tsuyu: Kero?
Beru: W-Well you see, when two people love each other very much like me and your father your body will start to feel- *Beru started to explain.*
Ganma: Beru! Don’t use us as an example for this! Gero! *He panicked.*
Tsuyu: Kero?
Beru: Why not? I think we are the perfect example.
Ganma: Because! Because do you really want that image in our daughter’s head? Wait, Should I even be in here for this? I mean I know I’ll but giving the talk to Samidare when he is older but! Gero! *The oldest frog man frantically exclaimed making Tsuyu realize now what her parents thought she meant by cuddle.*
Tsuyu: Oh... Oh! Mom! Dad! That isn’t what I meant by cuddle! *Tsuyu said as nervously as he boyfriend would have, making her glad he wasn’t here to see it.*
Beru/Ganma: Ribbit/Gero?
Tsuyu: I meant ACTUAL cuddling like when we lay down on a couch to watch a movie. That kind of cuddling.
Beru: Oh.
Ganma: Are you sure, gero?
Tsuyu: Yes. kero. *Tsuyu nodde as her parents let out a sigh when Tsuyu continued.* Beside, We both agreed to wait until after we become official hero after we graduate.
Beru/Ganma: RIBBIT/GERO!?!
Tsuyu: *Ding* Oh the curry is done, kero.
*Here is part 2 of Izuku meeting the Asai’s. As you can tell I am making most of this shit up as I go.*

The Fall, chapter 13
Chapter 13. And it’s still not done. I’m so sorry. Talk about excessive poorly written waffling.
Complete story Masterlist is here
Tumblr media
It was an odd routine, to wake up and spend the day with virtual strangers, sitting by the hospital bed of a man she barely knew, but it became normal relatively soon.  The group seemed to welcome the normality she brought. She could sense the tension they lived with, the constant threat on their lives, and distance they had to hold from day-to-day existence.  There were few trips to coffee shops, or supermarkets; no days out or movie trips. They’d made a new normal for themselves, but they were isolated and flung together by happenstance, and she brought something different that none of them had realised they craved.  She watched how they lived their lives waiting for a call that might come at any moment, how they pushed their bodies to the limit so as to always be ready for the next encounter.  Saddened, she felt for them, and felt humbled, as if her suffering was perhaps not as serious.  She stopped talking about Max, tried to put her efforts into listening to them, as if somehow her grief wasn’t justified. Two deaths compared to all they’d been through, and she’d been broken for years.  She didn’t deserve understanding or kindness.  She hadn’t yet found a way to be with herself.  She was all or nothing with her grief.
She had been at the Tower every day for over a week now.  She had little else in her life to take up her time.  There always seemed to be food, enough to include her; and she was always made to feel welcome and included.  It was a baptism of fire, to be introduced to so many people, so fast, but they seemed to relish it.  In their lines of work, you had to judge people quickly and decide if they were in or out.  She’d been judged as OK, and now she was one of them.  It seemed it was rare for new people to be allowed in, so she was something of a novelty still, and she cringed a little away from the attention. Nonetheless, her heart warmed at being included and part of the world again.
And in his own time, a little at a time, a day at a time, Bucky returned to the world, crawling out of the dark pit of unconsciousness he’d fallen into. Barton was the first to notice Bucky open his eyes.  It was late at night, and insomnia had got the better of him, so he was sitting by the bed, running a coin over and over through his fingers, talking aloud but with little intent.
‘So, this friend of yours seems nice. Feels good to have someone around who isn’t all about spying and killing for a change. I think she’d get on with Laura, was going to get her to come up, but I figure maybe meeting the kids would be hard, y’know.’ His eyes flicked up to the man in the bed, without expecting a response, and he noticed his eyes were open, and gazing around the room, but with little focus.
Barton reached over the pressed the buzzer, moving gently and continuing to talk.
‘Hey buddy, good to see you opening your eyes, been a while.  Know Cap’s been missing those steely blues…’ A nurse came in and he gestured.  ‘Our friend here’s opened his eyes, I figure that’s a good thing, right?’  The nurse moved forward, shining a light into Bucky’s eyes and watching the pupils react and his face contort into a slight frown.
‘All good progress, I’ll let the doctor know.’
‘Better tell Cap too, or there’ll be hell to pay.’
His eyes only stayed open for a few moments and were closed again by the time Steve rushed in, barefoot and bleary-eyed wanting to know everything, repeatedly.  Barton’s response of ‘well he opened his eyes, then he shut ‘em’ didn’t seem to satisfy him, and he sat down with a heavy sigh.
‘I shoulda been here Clint,’ he said, downcast as he rested his arms on his knees. Clint rested a hand on Steve’s shoulder as he left.
‘Can’t be here all the time Cap. Give yourself a break.’
Later, once the sun had started to rise, and Steve had dozed off in the chair, Bucky began to move.  His fingers twitched and he grabbed at something, nothing, movements spasmodic and meaningless. Disturbed by the slight sound of sheets rustling, Steve’s eyes flickered open and instantly he was sitting forward and gently holding onto Bucky’s hand, resting his other hand on Bucky’s shoulder.
‘Hey, Buck, it’s OK, take your time, take it easy…’ He muttered meaningless sentences until Bucky calmed, and the movements ended.
Over the next few days, Bucky opened his eyes more frequently although they suspected he wasn’t seeing anything. His movements gradually became a little more meaningful, although progress was sporadic and slower than Steve had patience for.  It was only watching her calm pleasure in Bucky’s improvements that stopped Steve pacing the room and demanding more from the doctors than they could possibly do.
‘How do you do it?’ He asked, slumping down in the chair, legs stretched out, but hands balled into fists showing his frustration.  ‘How do you not want to scream at how long it all takes and all the ‘two steps forward, one step back’?’
‘Well, he’s your best friend, and you’ve not had him back long, I guess it’s worse for you.  I’m…’ Steve interrupted.  ‘…I know, you’re just a stranger.  But you’re not, you know.  Maybe you didn’t know each other that long, but you had an impact.  He was excited, knowing you.  Kinda like the old Buck, y’know, when he met some girl.’
She flushed at that, looked down at Bucky, trying to picture the ‘40s charmer Steve had told her about in their long quiet conversations in the hospital room. She’d spent more time with Steve now, than she had with Bucky, but there was something about Bucky that drew her in. He began to move again as she watched, and Steve sat forward and held his friend’s hand.
‘Hey Buck, it’s Steve, you in there? Can you squeeze my hand?’  He’d been trying this for a few days now, without success, but as se watched, she saw Bucky’s hand tighten, knuckles whitening for a moment.  ‘Hey bud! Hey, that’s good, that’s real good Bucky!’  Steve’s eyes gleamed with unshed tears as Bucky’s hand loosened and he settled into oblivion again.
Day after day, it seemed, there were changes.  There was an air of tension and excitement in the Tower, that she couldn’t put her finger on. It wasn’t until she sat one evening, talking quietly to Clint, that he named the unsettled feeling.
‘We just don’t know, I guess – y’know – which one we’ll get back.’  He saw her look of confusion and gave a wry smile as he elaborated.  ‘They say head injuries can change the personality, right? I mean, it’s not guaranteed, but it happens.   So… since he’s already got two people in his head, Bucky and the Winter Soldier… which one wakes up first?’  Natasha called him away to help prepare a meal after that, and he left, patting her shoulder sympathetically. Mind racing, she sat back.  His past, she’d known about, but it seemed so distant to the man she knew that it was hard to remember they were the same person.  Now she felt a flutter of fear in her stomach and wondered what she would do – what they would all do – if the man who woke up was a threat.
The following day, as had become routine now, Steve picked her up in the morning.  She would be up, dressed, waiting. Sober and not hungover. Before he arrived, she would have eaten, cleaned, done all the little everyday things that make up a normal life.  She hadn’t had a drink for two weeks now, was eating better, looked healthier and more alive than before.  She tended to Bucky’s plants – both the one he’d given her, and the one she’d given him – with a care that suggested she felt that if only they would thrive, so would she, and so would he.
As they walked into Bucky’s room, the sound of the door opening seeped through his mind and his eyes opened.
‘Hey Buck, it’s us, back again,’ Steve said as he walked to the chair.  Bucky turned towards him, his eyes tracking Steve’s movements. ‘Hey, bud, yeah, good work, you can see me?’  This was the first time Bucky had shown deliberate actions, and they were both excited and on edge.  ‘Hey, it’s good to see you.  Seen who’s over there?’  Steve pointed across to where she stood on the other side of the bed. Painfully slowly, Bucky turned his head and looked at her.  She could feel him focus, felt as if she was under a spot light as he gazed intently at her, then turned back to Steve. He nodded slightly, and both were sure they saw him smile as he fell asleep.
Now progress seemed much steadier. Each time he awoke, he was confused, but awareness gradually settled in.  He was exhausted, and slept for long hours, but the periods awake grew, although he could still do nothing for himself.
It was late one afternoon, and they were both sitting by his bed again.  Tony had been in and there had been a hum of conversation all day. They all tried to stay quiet, so Bucky’s growing senses wouldn’t be overwhelmed, but inevitably there was noise, and sometimes laughter. It was a long time since she had laughed, and she was grateful for these people who had let her in ad helped her to heal.  Now Steve was telling her about a science fair they’d both been to, and what Bucky had been like in uniform, how all the girls had turned their heads to see.
‘Steve.’
Both their heads whipped around to the bed instantly.  Bucky’s eyes were open and he was watching them.
‘Steve?’
‘Hey, Buck, yes, it’s me.  We’re both here, welcome back pal.’ His eyes moved across and met hers, and as he said her name, she felt her face split into a smile.  His eyes went back and forth between the two of them. He knew her. That was enough for now.

Bonding
Tumblr media
Summary: It’s another late night with Tony. Ashley decides to turn on a movie, for the two of them to have some quality time together that she’s rather missed.
W: platonic self ship, familial self ship
((Note: Decided that I needed some fics with my dad. Just some adorable familial shit up in here. Let me know if you guys want me to write more platonic and familial fics. I really like Tony and my insert’s dynamic, and even though they’re not blood related, they still love and care for one another as if they are. And that’s really all that matters. This is just about them bonding, not at all serious.))
“Could you stop smacking so loud? I’m trying to focus here.”
I stopped chewing, glancing over at Tony who was furrowing his brows with tools in his hand. Slowly, I slurped up the rest of the noodles, setting down the container on the coffee table. I swallowed, shifting a bit on the floor and hearing him grumble under his breath as he continued working on his new prototype. Seems like every time I stop by he’s working on something new.
“I don’t smack.”
“Well, you were just a second ago. I’ve just gotta tighten this… and make sure that it doesn’t blow up again. It’d be nice if I could actually focus.”
Rolling my eyes, I folded my legs underneath me and continued to slowly and quietly chew the rest of my food. Tony nodded his head and grumbled a “finally she listens” under his breath. I decided not to make a comment, seeing the furrow in his brow. Tonight wasn’t a night to mess with him. Whatever he was working on must have been difficult, or at least it was proving to be difficult for him.
I tried to tell him that I could come back later, but he insisted that I stay. Not that I don’t mind spending time with him. It’s been a while since we’ve had a moment to sit down and just hang out together. It was too late for me to go home now, and I knew that Tony wouldn’t let me walk home even if I shifted in this late hour.
But if I knew that he was just going to be working all night, then I would have at least brought something to keep me occupied.
“We should watch a movie,” I said, suddenly, “You’ve got popcorn and stuff, right?”
“Yes, of course. You never know when you’re going to have a movie night at your place, right?”
Tony rolled his eyes and I could sense the bubbling sarcasm on his tongue.
“Oh, c’mon, Dad. Don’t tell me you don’t like movies.”
“I never said that. You think I have time to watch movies?”
He motioned with his hands towards all the tools and parts he had laid out in front of him on the table. I bit my lip, glancing around the room. Part of that was true, and part of that was bullshit. I could sense that he had been on edge the entire time I’d been here, and I wasn’t sure if it was because he was frustrated with the project or… something else entirely.
Tony heaved a sigh, setting down the tools and tapping his finger on the table. I continued to eat my food, poking at the noodles and pulling my knee up to my chest. It became extremely quiet. Almost awkward.
“I’m sorry,” He sighed, “I’m just… a little stressed at the moment.”
“It’s okay… maybe it was a bad idea that I came over.”
“No,” He said, sternly, making eye contact with me, “I’m glad that you stopped by. I wanted to see you. Just… gimme a few more minutes, okay?”
He turned his back to me once again to finish up, motioning behind him.
“There’s a couple DVD’s in that drawer over there.”
I snorted a little.
“You still keep DVD’s?”
“Of course I still keep DVD’s! Especially the classics.”
“I’m sorry! I just expected you to have them all just digitally downloaded and refusing to have physical copies.”
“Well, I do have them all downloaded. I’m not an animal.”
He smirked a bit, causing me to laugh rather loudly as I turned my back.
Shifting through the movies that he had, I had him turn on the large screen to allow me to see everything that we had available both physical and otherwise. Most of what he had was classics, stuff that I had never seen, and a few obscure titles that made me reread a couple of times. Finally, I settled on some random action film, knowing that he’d appreciate my choice.
By the time I had made my choice, he was cleaning up his workspace and putting everything away. He leaned down to ruffle my hair, causing me to grumble softly. He chuckled, sipping on the drink in his hands.
“You gonna give me some of that?” I asked.
“You don’t drink whiskey. But I have some wine. It’s red wine, but-”
“That’s fine,” I interjected, “Can you also pop some popcorn. That sounds sooooo delicious right now.”
“Of course it does. Alright, gimme a second.”
I smirked, leaning back a bit on my palms as he walked away. “Love you!”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Giggling softly, I waited patiently for him before I started anything up. I had missed the days that I was over here almost every single day when he wasn’t busy at least. We’ve gotten incredibly close over the past couple of years, and I wouldn’t be the person I am now without him. Every time I try to say that, though, he insists that he had nothing to do with it.
It’s easy for me to gloss over that fact and just accept that I made it here on my own. But it would be completely false. I don’t know where I’d be if Tony hadn’t chased me onto that rooftop years ago. Pursing my lips together, I pulled my knees up to my chest and sighed. I’ve always wondered how I was going to thank him for all that he’s done for me. But it would be impossible, considering he would never let me do anything crazy.
So I just stay by his side, and I show my loyalty in any way that I can. Call him out on his bullshit and try to be the best friend and daughter that I can be.
“I can’t believe you actually wanted me to make this. Didn’t you just eat?” He asked, setting down the bowl of freshly popped popcorn into my lap.
“Yeah, but it didn’t really fill me up. Besides, you can’t have a movie and not enjoy some popcorn.”
“Alright, that’s fair. What did you choose, anyway?”
Tony sat down beside me on the floor, sipping on a new drink rather slowly.
“Some spy movie. It looks like it could be good, or really cheesy.”
“Oh, you know that I love cheesy,” He said, sarcastically.
I giggled softly, pushing my elbow into his.
Turning on the movie, I grasped a blanket from nearby and wrapped myself up in it. Tony had the lights dimmed, and the two of us silently watched the movie together.
It ended up being extremely cheesy, but that didn’t make it bad either. Tony ended up chuckling a lot at the terrible jokes and terrible effects. He and I made a few bets about what would happen in the end, whether the main guy would get the girl or the girl would die tragically. We hoped it wasn’t the latter, silently.
A couple drinks in and Tony was extremely hilarious. Laughing at a lot of shit that he normally wouldn’t even laugh at. It was quite humorous to watch, and I giggled a few times at him after my second glass of wine. When the credits rolled, I had somehow ended up resting my head in his lap, sniffling a bit to myself.
“Are you crying?” Tony asked, glancing down at me.
“What? No! No, I’m just… my nose is running.”
“Because you’re crying.”
“No- Okay! Alright, yes I’m crying. But you have to admit that ending was kind of beautiful.”
I sniffled some more, and Tony let out a loud sigh. He ran a hand over my hair, shaking his head at me.
“It was cheesy,” He mumbled.
“Oh, yeah. Very cheesy.”
He laughed, hand brushing a few strands of hair behind my ear.
I yawned a bit, curling up in the large blanket and shutting my eyes tight. Now that the movie was over, I was feeling incredibly tired.
“Hey,” Tony said, shaking me a bit, “Hey, why don’t you go ahead and get in bed. Before you pass out on me and I have to carry you.”
“Could you?” I asked with a smirk, “I’m… too tired to move.”
Tony let out a sigh, shaking his head.
“No, I don’t think so. I’m not carrying you.”
I pushed out my bottom lip into a pout, refusing to move from my spot. I was too comfortable, the warmth of the blanket making it easy for me to drift off into sleep. Tony tried his best to get me to stand up, but I refused to move. He was becoming frustrated, throwing his arm down to his side.
“Ashley, I am not carrying you. I will make you sleep on the floor.”
“Fine, whatever. I’m already comfortable… and falling asleep.”
Tony huffed another sigh, mumbling under his breath about me being difficult. I cracked an eye open, watching him slowly set my head down on the floor as he stood up. Touching his hand to his forehead, he turned off the big screen and gathered a bunch of trash from the table and floor. It was funny watching him continue to grumble as he stomped off, throwing dishes into the sink and trash into a bin.
When he came back into the living room, I had my eyes shut tight once again.
Tony leaned down, sliding his arms underneath me and heaving me up into his arms. I let out a laugh, opening my eyes to see his thinly lipped frown. “Don’t say anything,” He mumbled. I held up my hands, slowly wrapping them around his neck to make sure that I was secure. The last thing I wanted was for him to drop me.
But since I was tired, I ended up resting my head against his collarbone, feeling the wave hitting me once again.
“No need to pretend now,” He mumbled as he carried me towards the guest room, “You got your way.”
“I’m not pretending, Dad. I’m actually tired.”
“Oh.”
I giggled softly, shutting my eyes since I was hardly able to even keep them open at this point.
Somehow he got the door open, turning on the lights and slowly setting me down on the bed. I glanced around the room at the bare and empty guest room. I didn’t expect for it to be full, considering it’s probably hardly ever used in the first place.
“There, happy now?” He asked, “I’m gonna be in the other room if you need me.”
He started to turn around when I called for him again.
“What?” He asked, turning around and seeing my pout.
“You’re not going to tuck me in?”
“Excuse me? Ashley, you’re not five years old. You are a grown woman.”
Narrowing my eyes, I untucked the blankets and threw the sheets over me, flopping down on my side.
“Fine. I just wanted my dad to be nice and tell me goodnight, but nevermind then.”
“Okay, how many glasses of wine did you have?”
“Just two! I’m a little bit of a lightweight, but I’m not drunk.”
Tony rolled his eyes, looking at me as I closed my eyes tight and stopped talking. He must have thought that I was seriously upset with him and not playing it up to be funny. Because his shoulders slumped a bit and he let out another loud sigh that I could hear clearly.
He stepped over to the side of the bed and patted my head, adjusting the covers a bit around me. Turning off the lights, he folded his arms across his chest and watched my sleeping form. I could tell that he knew I was somewhat faking being asleep, but he didn’t bother calling me out on it.
“Thanks for coming tonight, Wolfie. I enjoyed your company. Even if you make it really hard for me to focus,” He said with a chuckle.
“No problem, Dad. Anything for you.”
Tony smiled, ruffling my hair gently in response.
Things got a little quiet, and I could hear his footsteps fading away as he started to exit the room. I shifted a little in the bed, adjusting the pillow just right and feeling the comfortable sheets around me. Of course Tony would have silk sheets. I’d never felt such soft sheets before, and the room was the perfect temperature.
“Goodnight, Wolfie. See you in the morning,” He mumbled, hand on the door.
“Mmm… night, Tony. Love you.”
That last part I mumbled completely subconsciously, already slipping deeper into sleep at this point.
Tony chuckled, slowly shutting the door.
“Love you too, Wolfie.”
