Oh-kaayyyy

So there's a semi-annual inspection on my weekend. Is this legal? I'm not on section eight..... Anyway, I figured it wouldn't entirely kill me to clean up a bit now and I can do some more--like beginning to vacuum--over the next couple days. Like, no way in hell am I taking my recyclables out. I just put on my slipper socks; it's dark outside and it was cold earlier when I was returning my stupid fucking router.

Plus, my place never gets like......hoarder gross, just like, this person lives here and has ferrets for cats.

Anyway, I finally, finally got the goddamn stupid fucking router to work. So I finally downloaded the blogs I would most be sad to lose.

Uuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm

I didn't realize that basically, it tears the blogs apart and then if you want them put together, like in a book I would imagine......... you have to manually find a way to put that shit back together. Also, a blog as big as frogsandfries presently is (22,156 before this post)............at least on this laptop, isn't downloading nicely.....and also, would be someone's life's work to reconstruct. Sooooooooooo that's fun. Imagine you could cram an average of just like, 1.5 posts per page......I'm imagining a 5x8 book, because that's like, a normal book size.....a book of just this blog would be gargantuan. Or just a ridiculous number of volumes.

Also, does anyone else just think about the.....just overwhelming quantities of information they've created? Like, here I am undertaking turning someone else's life's work--thousands of pages of handwriting and typewriting--and not even thinking about the mountains of Me that I'm leaving behind. I mean, there are the books that I'm binding, preserving parts of the internet archive of fanfiction; stories that people wrote, openly admitting that they were inspired by someone else. And then there are the gigabytes of just photos that saved to my google cloud (not counting all the pictures I either lost or got posted to a blog and have been buried). I've already planned to put all my pictures from google into photo books. I've already planned to print them on some kind of glossy paper.

And this is just information from the past ten or so years.

What about moving forward? I have at least another three to five decades of life expectancy, and I don't see myself being any less generative. I'm still going to keep screenshotting wild things I find on the internet, I'm still going to keep gathering studies and references. Honestly, a book of just things that inspire me or that I would stick to a pinboard so that I can see them would probably be a whole book. My cats will probably get their own book. I'm going to keep logging and showing off the things that I create. I'm going to occasionally need to journal my thoughts.

I'm just trying to picture all of these honestly, what should be impossible amounts of information that we all produce on a daily basis. And for better or for worse, one day, the sands of time will just.....wipe it away. The first to vanish will be the things that were never preserved offline. And who am I, really, to cling to an opportunity for some form of immortality? I mean, apart from a person who is having these.....big, tiny, existential thoughts.

Anyway. I kinda started to do a 'strangers in my home' clean on my apartment. I never did end up finishing those 'colors of the sky' notebooks........ I have so many big projects..... I want to finally, one, crack the Darger texts and turn it into something that is.....what's the word that I'm looking for here.... I intend to probably post it to something like AO3 and maybe even post it to like, Amazon or some other PoD site for people to request at their leisure. I want to make it something accessible and malleable. Like, you definitely could download it totally for free yourself off of AO3, and print it on the paper of your choosing--or you can go the convenience route. Not that I even remotely expect any kind of notoriety for doing this. I'm just doing it because it calls to me.

Maybe then I can finally turn my attention to archiving and preserving my internet existence.

I put up those lights I've been mumbling about. I was having an issue with my internet which is really the only reason I left my home instead of being at work. My phone is dead rn, but it's really cool. It was gloomy today, but this strip of lights lights up the space like daylight. I really can't get over it and I'm so eager to buy probably my final set of lights for over the couch.

I'm also thinking about purchasing more jars, maybe in a few different sizes, for these fairy lights, and probably finding a way to pin a few jars of lights to the wall, for a bit of ambient lighting.

Also, I think this is my last random rambly thought, but if you have the patience, apparently you can just kinda one-fell-swoop download all your photos off your google cloud???? I probably won't do this unless I can muster enough self-control to save for a hard-drive because......can you even imagine downloading that much information all at once??

I really ought to at least pick at that project once in a while.

Autumn - Kíli x Reader

imagine: a drizzly, grey morning in September with Kíli

Kíli yawns and stretches, his spine popping, one vertebra after the other, like a xylophone. Autumn is a boon for his soul and a bane for his bones. Although he doesn't feel old enough to complain about his joints, hardly over the threshold of 30, it can't be denied that he's at the age where he can distinguish between soreness and aches. Two very different sensations, he'll have you know.

Outside, the sky is downed with dense, grey-black cloud, a mid-September chill breezing through the narrow slit in the window Kíli left open before climbing into bed, when it was still warm.

It's raining; a hard, constant pitter-patter against the roof and windowpanes adds to the ambient weekday noise that filters in. The nasally sound of the school-bus breaks as it climbs the street, and the rise and fall of children's chatter. The plop and splash of wellies in deep puddles chased by dull-to-shrill warnings from parents. Bright arches bob past below, reds and oranges and patterned plastics, some sporting big eyes that ogle him as they go by down below.

Kíli loves the apartment, close to everything while still maintaining a bit of privacy on the second floor. A balcony in the front, off the living room, and another in the back from the kitchen. The rooms are perfectly sized and the wood accents are original, early 20th Century oak, stained honey-warm.

Kíli sighs and grabs his thick, fuzzy socks from the floor, shoving his feet into their soft comfort before squeezing himself into the pillowy, turkey-shaped slippers you bought him last year on a trip to the States. He adores them.

He adores you more, though. And how well you know him, how in sync you are, how it feels like you've lived lifetimes together while still discovering all sorts of new and interesting things about one another.

Fuck it, Kíli thinks, twisting at the waist and leaning his weight on a palm, it's love. He leans across his side of the bed into your space and watches you for a moment as you continue to sleep; the gentle rhythms of your body as you breathe, and flutter of your lashes as you dream.

He whispers a kiss on your bare shoulder, tucks stray strands of hair behind your ear and smiles to himself when your cheek twitches in reaction.

You're adorable, he decides. Again. For probably the millionth-and-one time since meeting you two years ago.

Kíli rises and creeps to the door, leaves the room with a last, lingering gaze over your sleeping form, and makes his way down the hall to the kitchen.

Unlike his brother, Kíli isn't the best at cooking or baking. Don't get him wrong, he can throw together a decent meal if given a recipe (from a book, never from the internet - for some reason those always turn out over- or undercooked and completely unsatisfying. He has a theory that the people who blog their recipes tweak them so that they remain the only people on Earth who can do them justice), but, for all intents and purposes, you do the bulk of the cooking. Something you quite enjoy and he quite enjoys watching you do.

As you skip around, shimmy-shaking to whatever playlist you're into that day, negotiating with the ingredients between verses, and chopping, dicing, zesting and mixing like a musical performance.

Yeah, Kíli can admit he's completely under your thrall and there's nothing he wants to do about it.

He puts the kettle on and rummages through the cupboard above the stove to locate where you put the instant coffee you received from Amazon yesterday. Pumpkin Spice Latte, he reads when he finds it and pulls it out, from Starbucks.

Instant coffee, he can do. And he can do well.

From the fridge, he grabs the milk and pours a decent percentage of it into a saucepan which he places on the smallest element. Into the milk goes a dash of nutmeg, a sprinkle of allspice, a pinch of ginger and a shake-shake-shake of cinnamon that he whisks together as the milk heats up. The kettle clicks off.

In a series of practiced motions, Kíli sweeps into the cupboard where you keep your eclectic collection of mugs - he makes sure to pick an autumn-themed one (he's learned since the incident when he chose a snowman-shaped mug in the middle of July and caught you transferring its contents into a bulbous, pale green mug with cacti painted on when you thought he wasn't looking).

For himself, he picks a simple white mug with the words Keep Calm and Drink Tea in neat cursive on the front.

In your mug, he empties one of the sachets of instant latte mix, in his he drops an Earl Grey teabag, loops the string around the handle and pours the boiled water into both mugs until they're a little less a third filled. Next, he gives the milk a final stir, then tips it into each mug, sets the saucepan aside and reaches for the small, handheld frother tucked into the drawer in the little cart you bought from IKEA.

Once your coffee is nicely fluffed, Kíli sprinkles more nutmeg on top of the foam and smiles in satisfaction when the aroma of perfectly blended pumpkin spice hits his nose. Yes, he did good, if he does say so himself.

He retrieves the tray he found at the weekend market - a warm, cozy autumn aesthetic painted on the laminated wood - and proceeds to place your mug at the corner.

Thankfully, as he was off exploring the market, you decided to bake a spread of goodies from pumpkin spice muffins to cinnamon biscuits to crumbly apple cake. Most of the treats are to be packaged sweetly and divided between your family and Kíli's so nothing goes to waste, but, since that hasn't happened yet, Kíli plucks a muffin from the box and puts it on the tray beside your coffee.

He follows that up with an expertly ratioed bowl of your favorite cereal and two pieces of toast smeared in Nutella for himself.

Perfect.

Now, the finishing touch.

Tiptoeing into the living room - glancing quickly into the bedroom to ensure you're still sound asleep - Kíli sneaks over to the bookshelf and grabs a copy of the dictionary he's had since he was in school. He reaches into the empty space it leaves behind, his fingers closing around a small, velvet box.

As quickly and quietly as he can, Kíli scurries back to the kitchen and arranges the box - a burnt orange color that you always say reminds you of the trees in October back home - behind you mug, so you'll find it only after you've had your first taste of Kíli's stupendously mixed coffee.

You'll have to say yes then.

With a rallying breath and a nod to himself, Kíli collects the tray and pads back toward the bedroom.

You wake to an ode of how much you're loved: a smattering of dry, loving kisses to your shoulder and brow, the crispness of a damp autumn breeze and the comforting pitter-patter of rain against the roof. And, of course, the delicious smell of pumpkin spice.

What made you happy in the last 24 hours? hearing from K. getting a new backpack. 

What was the last book you read? I never remember the names. im not sure why, it just never seems significant to me to pay attention to the names.

What was the most fun thing you did in the last 24 hours? laying on the grass yesterday staring at clouds with nephews and their friends and naming what shapes we saw.

Have you done anything adventurous lately? no, not really.

What was the last thing you regretted doing (or not doing)? not asking more questions when I should have  What was the last thing you felt confused about? Ohhhhhhhhhk this is weird and embarrassing but i thought it was weird that K is supposed to be looking at homes but it seems hes at work (surprise surprise). its a day off for him, or was supposed to be. and thats so creepy that im looking, im struggling with not talking. i guess he should probably turn off location lol. 

What was the most delicious food you ate in the last 24 hours? ummmm dinner last night was good

Do you like the way your hair looks right now? no. its up in a bun and i have a headband on. its “get business done” hair. lots of packing and such. 

Do you think it rains too much where you live? it doesn’t rain enough. i would love for it to rain REGULARLY. 

What color is your laptop? silver. frick i love this laptop. its breaking apart but i can’t get enough.

Is your computer slow? Is it having problems? its not slow at all. it’s very efficient and speedy. I don’t use it for any heavy programming at all. 

Do you worry a lot, or do you live carefree? I spend probably most of my time leaning towards carefree.

She laughs against his cheek. His beard is soft but tickles her lips as it passes over. He’s rolling over as sleep takes him back, barely awake, but purposely crushing her beneath him. He knows she likes it, knows it makes her hot to feel the full weight of him knocking the wind from her lungs. He feels good against her, skin on skin, nothing between them anymore.

When he’s gone, she snuggles closer, pressing herself into his back. She kicks her knees up to fit in the curve of his, lays her hand on his waist, just feeling his heat. He smells like the woods; he was out early with the dogs, walking before dawn, but he always comes back to bed. There’s a hint of the lake on him too, and she pushes her nose between his shoulder blades, just breathing him in. It’s heat and man and the country; it’s perfect.

He’s gone so often for work, these little escapes to their cabin are so precious. It’s nothing fancy, not like back home, but there’s a cozy bed and a fireplace, a little kitchen to make a mess in, and big deck chairs down on the dock. There’s sun and leaves, water and that fall breeze they both love so much. It’s paradise, hidden away, just for them. No reporters, no managers, fans, family. Just the two of them.

She lets out a contented sigh against his skin and he shivers.

“Morning,” he whispers, first words always a little rough. His mouth is dry and he licks his lips as he covers her hand and brings it up to his chest. He crushes it to his heart and she can almost feel it beating. “How’d you sleep?”

“Pretty good,” she hums in reply, face still smashed against his muscular back.

It’s then that he takes her hand and bends his lips to it, offering a gentle kiss. She can feel him smile against her knuckles, that scratchy push of beard followed by the world’s softest lips. It’s almost unfair that a man should have such perfectly kissable and soft lips. Then again, a lot of things were unfair about Chris in general. If she could have stolen his eyes, she would have, lashes and all; no man had any right to have such beautiful lashes. His skin was like milk, his smile like an angel; the body of a god, chiseled from marble. He was unfair in almost every way.

He was also one of the kindest people she’d ever met. Sweet through and through, and adorable as all hell.

“Stay in bed,” he says quietly, “I’ll go make coffee.”

“And bacon?” she asks, kissing the nape of his neck.

He laughs as he rolls away. “Obviously.”

Breakfast on the deck; sunrise behind them already. They’ve stayed in bed too long and the day is wasting away.

Y/N sits in her favorite chair, sipping the dregs of her second cup of coffee while Chris tosses a ball to Dodger. Waffles is off by the edge of the water, digging up rocks as she sniffs for fish.

There’s a gentle breeze that smells of the end of summer. It’s really over; the heat is gone from the air, replaced by the smell of turning leaves and warming campfires.

She closes her eyes as the wind kisses her cheeks. She smiles into it; she won't mourn the summer's passing, for fall brings the best things. Autumn means big cozy sweaters and slippers lined with fur. It means a quilt on the bed and closer cuddles on colder mornings. It means walks in the woods, hand in hand while the dogs run ahead searching for rabbits. It means warm kisses with chilly noses brushing against soft cheeks.

A contented sigh drops her shoulders and Y/N sinks down deeper into the big chair. She watches the reflection of the clouds on the still lake, occasional ripples making everything shimmer.

Waffles breaks her concentration as a warm, scratchy tongue licks at her bare toes. She jumps at the surprise touch and laughs loudly, calling Chris over to her. He jogs across the grass and blocks the sun with his huge frame as he towers over her.

“Oh,” he groans playfully, “I was just about to do that.”

Shielding her eyes from his bright halo, Y/N looks up with a smile. “You were gonna come lick my toes? You’re gross.”

He laughs, knocking his head back as his body moves with the action. His voice is loud, booming across the lake; it’s beautiful. “OK, maybe not your toes,” he admits once he settles. “But I am a little hungry.” His eyebrows raise as his smile turns into a suggestive pout and Y/N can’t think about anything but his mouth and where he could put it.

She shivers with arousal and licks her lips slowly. “Poor baby…”

Her mug lands somewhere in the grass at their feet. He lifts her easily with strong arms and big, warm hands that nearly circle her upper arms. His kiss is deep and he tastes of mint; his body long and firm as she falls into him.

“Wanna head inside?” he asks, words just a whisper falling against her ear.

Words are hard in that moment but she mutters a faint ‘yes’ against the crook of his neck. Her arms lock around him and Chris leads her away. The lake can wait, the warm breeze will still be there later. He has other plans for the day.

Hand in hand they walk along the shoreline, toes sinking into the wet sand, feet massaged by pebbles and the kiss of a wave now and then. The lake is magic at sunset; gold and orange sparkle on the blue, the sky grows darker and the wind blows cool.

There’s no rush to head inside, no dinner date they’re late for, no phone calls, no real life. Lake life is the best life. There’s nothing to worry about but who’s going to make the coffee. Nothing to do but be in the moment, every moment.

His fingers pulse between hers, tightening his grip. She’s a few steps ahead suddenly and he yanks her back, spinning her around into his arms.

She laughs, eyes full of sweet surprise as he curves himself down around her and cups her cheek. Blue eyes stare deep into hers and her heart swells.

“What?” she asks, cheek on fire beneath his touch.

“I’m so glad I found you.” His voice is pure and happy, his smile too perfect to be believed. He dips his lips for a kiss and Y/N closes her eyes, focusing on the soft press of flesh, the feel of him, so afraid she’ll open her eyes to find it’s all been a dream.

“I love you,” she says on the end of the kiss, eyes fluttering open to find him still staring.

He smiles, eyes crinkling slightly, apples of his cheeks blushing brightly. “Well, that’s a good thing,” he teases, pecking her lips once more. “Because I love you too.”

Hollywood calls as it always does; Monday comes too quickly for comfort.

The road winds away from the cabin, sunlight flickers like strobe lights through the trees aside the highway.

The phones start to ring as service resumes, the road clogs with traffic. Life returns, heaviness leans on their shoulders once more, but their hands are still clasped, fingers still locked in a silent kiss. Forever.

“I was wondering if you could do a little thing with Loki where he and the reader just got back from a date and Loki says 'We should do this again some time.' (In friends, Phoebe says when someone says this they mean 'you are never gonna see me again') and the reader who is a huge friends fan, gets disappointed, but Loki reassures her that he meant it. Then next date they stay in and watch that episode of friends and Loki suddenly understands.”

Walking down the street you had a big smile on your face as you carried the large panda bear Loki had won you from one of the fair games, he did use his magic for it but you didn't mind, it made it funnier when the vendor was confused at how Loki managed to knock down every single pin in the tent. Looking to Loki the smile was still on your face "Loki?" You suddenly said and watched the god turn his head to you in answer "Can we take a selfie?" You asked and watched as his lips twisted into a small smile as he nodded his head, letting out a small laugh you reached for your phone in your back pocket, pulling it around and unlocking it and opening the camera app.

Trying to get the both of you in the frame was a bit of a struggle for you as your arms wasn' as long as you thought they were, hearing a small laugh you turned to Loki as he reached up for your phone letting his fingers brush across yours, sending a small shiver down your spine extending his arm Loki smiled at the camera as you did holding the panda bear higher up to get it in the picture, returning your phone to you, you smiled at the photo and set it as Loki's contact photo before returning it to your pocket and walking on.

Listening to Loki talk about his new life in avengers tower you nodded along as you turned the corner and you could see your house at the end of the street, how you met Loki was a strange in fact you could say it was a really funny story, how this god tried to take over your city but ended up being  locked outside your friends shop, where you took pity on him and took him out a sandwich, while the avengers were inside eating theirs, you never thought Loki would ask you out for a date, but so far it turned out to be one of the best you had actually been on.

Stopping outside your front door you turned to Loki and handed him the bear "Can you hold him, please? I need to get my keys" you spoke and once your hands were free you dug into your pocket and got your keys, turning to the door you placed them in the lock and opened the door before turning back to Loki and collecting the bear.  

Smiling up at Loki you wet your lips and asked "Would you like to come in?"

Shaking his head Loki wet his own lips "I can't, it's late and if I don't get back to the tower soon you'll have Stark banging your door down." Laughing at the thought you nodded your head "I'll lose my security deposit if he did that" you joked.

Loki smirked at you, turning his eyes to the panda, then back to yours he seemed lost in his own thoughts before he took a breath and said "We should do this again sometime." You heart sank into your stomach once Loki's words had hit your ears, you were a massive fan of friends and those words, hit a memory of yours from one episode the one where Phoebe says when someone says this they mean "you are never gonna see me again" taking a step back into your house you took a shallow breath "yeah sure, call me when your next free, goodnight Loki" you said as you step behind the door and started to close it.

"(Y/n), I mean it" Loki said as he studied your face and saw you looked sad, wetting his lips he went to say something again but you had shut the door, scratching the back of his neck he stared at the door thinking to himself if he did or said anything wrong, he was still learning all about Midgard, sucking in some air Loki turned and started walking back to the tower, planing the next date with you in his head, and he hoped you would agree to it.

It had been a whole week since the date and you still hadn't heard from Loki, looking out of the window you looked at the couples walking by and felt your heart sink a little turning your head back you let out a little sigh before you picked up the books and returned them to their shelves, looking around your book shop it was quite, you only had a few hours left before you closed it up for the weekend, returning to the counter you checked your phone, no notifications placing your phone back under the counter you got started on the paperwork you had been ignoring.

The bell rang above the door lifting your head and eyes to the door you were shocked to find Loki standing there with a bouquet of red roses and a half smirk, making your heart flutter as you straighten yourself.

"Loki, what are you doing here?" You asked as you watched him walked forward and handed the flowers over to you.

"To ask you if you would like to go on a second date with me" Loki inquired with a mischievous grin.

Smiling you dropped your head and shook it "you came all this way to ask me in person, why didn't you just call my phone?" You looked back up at Loki

Watching Loki laugh he also dropped his head and smiled before wetting his lips "Stark took my phone off me, apparently he is mad at me for the amount of amazon boxes, that keep turning up at the tower."

Laughing at his statement, you held your sides "Loki the god of mischief, has discovered online shopping" picking up your coat and keys to the shop you walked around the counter, it was closing time, turning off the lamp you and Loki walked to the door "so what did you have in mind for this second date?" You asked as you punched the alarm code into the box.

Opening the door Loki held it open as you walked out into the street, before closing it and letting you lock your shop up "I was thinking dinner and a movie" Loki questioned his choice when he saw the small change in your face.

"I have a better idea" you smirked as you watched Loki turn his head to the side, "follow me" you giggled.

Bringing the popcorn in from your kitchen you couldn't help but smile at the sight of Loki sitting on you sofa in pajamas and fluffy bunny slippers, handing him the bowl you sat crossed legged on the sofa and pulled the blanket over your legs "before we start, I have to explain this is a tv show, and it was one of my favourites, its about 6 friends and its called friends" you s explained to Loki who just nodded and turned his eyes to the tv scene.

Loki and you had watched about six episodes, and you did have to do some more explaining for Loki about the characters and the plot but he did slowly started to get it, you were watching another episode and Loki watched as you stood up, "I'll get us some more popcorn, you keep watching, I've seen this one like a thousand times" you joked as you left the room.

Watching you leave the room Loki turned his eyes back to the tv just as the character you told him called Phoebe was talking about dating, the character said "We should do this again sometime" and explained to her friends that when your date says this they actually mean that you would actually never going see them again, Loki suddenly understood why  you looked sad at the end of the first dated, making a mental note to himself to learn what not to say at the end of a Midgaridan date, as he wanted things to work out between the two of you, as you were started to become a person he really cared about.
