Amara Reference Sheet

So a while back I spotlighted a really cool artist, EvaXArtss, and I'd mentioned that I'd eventually repost the reference sheet she did for me. Here I am following up on that, albeit with a censored version to help try and get more visibility going.

Commissioned Art: Friendly Dining

Thanks to the lovely @furipasart, we have ourselves one of those rare moments where the usually solemn and stone-faced stoic, Amara, is seen being happy for once in her life.

Whether it's because she has a tail once more or because she's in good company with a new friend she likely just made, who knows.

Wanted to do one of these again, not gonna lie. I think I did this a couple years back, so once again I'm doing a playlist for everyone's favorite buff lady, Amara Alistratova. Is your OC confident or shy when it comes to fighting? 👀

I'd say Amara, the OC in question, is honestly pretty confident about fighting all things considered. She's just very stone faced about it like many other things in her life. The type to act like she just wants to get it done and over with so she can go get some shopping done before the stores close.

Truth be told she enjoys it every once in a while, especially if she has a durable enough opponent (par the course with any Saiyan really), but there was a small point in time she was rather fearful about the idea of fighting. Didn't like the idea she could lose control of herself in a fight and all hell breaking loose.

Fusions Maidah and Ampo battle it out to see which one is stronger, but it seems that they might be getting a little carried away...

Who'll win? The Cosmic Queen of Terror or the Electric Executioner? It's rather too early to know.

This is a commission that was a year in the making and my wonderful friend Inkweaver has absolutely managed to pull it off! If you'd like to commission her, go for it! I'd highly recommend it!

Shipping Thoughts

Okay so this is more of those "spur of the moment" types of thoughts and i'm probably not gonna function much until i get it out of the way.

So as a(n amateur) writer and as someone who likes to have all of their bases covered in every such way possible, I'm surprisingly very indecisive when it comes to writing romance and having that sort of "Be All, End All" definitive pairing for certain characters... but with that being said, I suppose that the best way to cover an uncovered base like this is to go with the stance that every pairing* is equally valid and therefore has their own right to be treated as such. However I should also strongly note that some character relationships might be better off in other directions. * = pairing that I approve of. (So basically only applying to my friends' characters as long as they are also on board with the idea.)

Now this admittedly really was also just something that wouldn't leave my thoughts from the moment it cropped up, because as we know that once anyone gets certain OC Thoughts, those thoughts just remain there like things that will never leave.

Some New Stuff

So the direction of this blog kinda just goes all over the place and that's fine in all honesty. I know what I like and I appreciate the people who have similar interests in what I like and enjoy the posts I occasionally make.

That being said, I'm likely going to start bringing in some additional stuff into the mix of whatever fandom stuff i already post. I've basically just been sitting on what feels like loads of content in terms of google docs, so eventually I'll get around to sharing that stuff.

One of my current Pet Projects is just developing what was originally just meant to be a Spidersona AU into a full blown Marvel AU, dubbed Earth-189898.

I kinda have just been developing that on the side while still writing up whatever stuff i come up with for Amara's universe, Dragon Ball Universe 66.

I don't really have much else to say, but I wanted to at least talk about some developments.

certain kinds of stories, OCs and other things kind of just end up being funny for me to think about if only just because I think about how Amara would interact with them. Sometimes this leads to really funny/cool scenarios, other times this just leads to what basically amounts to me just slandering/bullying other characters because it's immensely funnier that way. Love me some of that.

Like No I don't think some rando ass creepypasta ".exe" character is going to get the drop on her. That's just going to be them trying to hit her with some dollar store ass jumpscare and then getting their face caved in. 'Boutta be some "why do i hear boss music?" type beat and it's not her hearing the boss music, it's them and it's this because they picked the absolutely worst possible target.

Of course now like I said, not every thought of interaction is just meant to be me thinking of how hard a certain kind of character is getting bullied and such. Like I said, sometimes it's just thinking about how cool/how fun her interactions would be with other characters. She could be like the cool-headed big sister figure to someone who really needs one or what have ya.

Would your OC do well in a fighting scenario whilst teamed up with with another character who's kind of a coward/crybaby? They'd pull their weight, sure, but it's a matter of if they'd be tolerateable or not

Yeah probably. She's surprisingly flexible when it comes to working with other people. It's the other person/people that the synergy depends on overall in that regard. After all even cowards can sometimes come in clutch. Just look at Luigi when it comes to the Mario & Luigi series, guy's a total coward but he still stands tall with his big brother even in the face of danger.

As for tolerance though... Amara's probably going to tolerate it for at least one fight before immediately telling the other person to get their act together. How much she chooses to mince her words depends on how much of a crybaby they are.

Artist Spotlight: EvaXArtss

first I'd like to say that it's been a good while since I've even done one of these kinds of posts... or really any posts in general now that I think about it. Apologies on that, lot has been going on. I also want to stress that I tend to wait a little while when posting commissions because I want the artists to get as much traction possible on their own posts on their platforms.

Now getting into it, I'd like to go ahead and share some commission work and spotlight probably one of my favorite artists in a growing list of favorite artists: EvaXArtss.

The very first commission I ever bought from her was a full body piece with three characters. Those characters being my OC Amara, her OC Chikara, and another fantastic OC, belonging to the also fantastic Komiplier, Komatsu

Following this commission and loving the way it turned out, I would later buy another commission from her. I gave it some thought and looked back on some prior attempts at getting reference sheets (from different artists) for my big girl Amara, how I wasn't satisfied with them.

side note: while I've talked about them in prior posts here, I want to stress that I only hated the very first attempt as I felt I had been scammed out of my money, the second one was pretty satisfactory, but the art style didn't lend itself as well as I'd hoped.

So when I looked at Eva's reference sheet for her girl Chikara, the lightbulb lit up and it was then I decided I would commission her for a new reference sheet for Amara. Two pages, one for the character herself and one for various forms. (I'll probably post this ref sheet again later on its own, but it's important to spotlight here anyways)

Side Note: Now, there are two versions of this piece as well, A censored version and an uncensored version. I'm no artist, so I don't care much if my account gets flagged for posting booba, but I do care about her accounts getting flagged for doing that. The censored version is found on her twitter and instagram.

Now, I'll gladly commission her a third time if i have to, but I also want to stress that if you're ever going to commission her or really any artist for that matter, please be respectful and please be patient. Quality cannot be rushed and shouldn't be rushed.

Commissioned Artwork: Year of the Rabbit

Once more I come along with a post sharing some recently finished artwork that I have commissioned. Starting this year, as of January 22nd 2023, it is the Year of the Rabbit according to the Lunar New Year. Since I wanted to get this done eventually anyways, I took the opportunity to put in a commission order to my good buddy GX and get some artwork of Amara in a bunny suit.

There is an alternative version of this piece, but I'm simply going to post a link to it rather than post the artwork itself here.

Commissioned Artwork: Chibi

So a little history to go here: For the longest time I've always wanted to commission one of my favorite dragon ball artists on twitter, the incredibly talented Koi (@/SwagkashiArt; please go follow her and support the Buff Lady/Bardock/Broly propaganda she provides), but I've usually either missed the window or didn't have the money to do so. It wasn't until recently that I was finally able to commission her, and even then I still feel like it was a close call due to Twitter nearly screwing everything up in the process (Thanks, Muskrat). What we have here today is just another one of Koi's fantastic artworks, one that I am always going to treasure as well.

Undoubtedly I'll definitely be a repeat customer for Koi, whether she opens up more chibi commissions or she opts to do more traditional commissions. With all that said, I can't stress enough how thankful I am that she took on my request. Thank you again, Koi!

Characters and Settings

I'll admit off the bat that I am not an amazing writer, but I would consider myself a pretty alright one. One of the things I tend to think about is my characters and their settings or how they would work in different types of settings, if they can work in those settings.

My main character, Amara, is the one I'll be using for this post. For a basic rundown of the character: She is an original character made for the Dragon Ball series, namely a Saiyan who hails from another universe, often acting cold and aloof to mask her true emotions. She is 6'11" and capable of potentially destroying a planet if she was forced into such a position to do so, due to the raging spirit that dwells within her in the form of a green haired berserker of legend.

So thus she can work in a number of settings or genres, especially if we were to change around certain aspects of her character and origins. She could fit in most shonen works due to being created for a shonen series. For instance, she could fit in a setting like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure if we were to change that Legendary Super Saiyan form of hers and make it into her Stand among other things. Could call it something like 「R H A P S O D Y」 or even 「G E N E S I S」 and make it resemble a ghostly version of herself in the aforementioned form.

However, there are certainly types of genres where she would be the least fitting in my opinion. She does not work particularly well in anything involving horror, as I feel that her stoicism and subsequent lack of fear would make her an uninteresting character and thus also a character who breaks the pacing of a horror narrative. To simply put: If she is the night guard, she's getting fired for destruction of company property.

where mixed results come from is if she were placed into anything involving romance. Amara herself is terrible at romance, more specifically she is terrible at expressing her emotions and feelings due to her need to maintain a veneer of stoicism among other things. While this might present a challenge for a potential suitor to overcome, it leaves her in an awkward position of not knowing how to be gentle with rejection, should the scenario arise. She can work in the genre, she's just not particularly suited for the genre due to the above problems. When it does work though, she is a steadfast partner and very supportive of her loved ones.

I could go into a number of other settings and scenarios where she could and couldn't work, but I think this is a good stopping point here. On that note though, I will pick back up with her story in the future. I put it on the backburner due to my job and other things taking up a lot of time, thus leaving me with no time to write any chapters and have them posted by the weekend. Everything is starting to settle down more, so I'll try to get back into it.

Recent conclusion I've come to is that one of the better things about Tumblr, opposed to Twitter, is that if I want to express a desire to get commissions, I don't have to worry about some complete rando trying to sell me on commissioning them or telling me to check my DMs and seeing that they are trying to offer their services to me.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love to support artists and all that, but I would much prefer to approach an artist myself. Especially if the artist is someone I know I can trust to deliver a product that I genuinely enjoy instead of something that makes me regret the purchase.

All said, I'm not making this post to shit talk any specific artist, I'm just making a conclusion based on prior experiences and how different it is between the two platforms. I'll end off this post by sharing two different artworks of my OC, Amara and putting my thoughts into the alt text.

Intrusive OC Thoughts

Everyone's probably had these about their own OCs at some point another, just random thoughts that managed to worm their way in. Here's just a few that came to my mind:

Through sheer force of will and determination to beat a man's ass, Amara manages to perform the impossible by forcing her way through stopped time in order to land a haymaker so mighty that it'd make even Star Platinum blush. The Time Stopper in question is only lucky that she only landed the one.

In a given scenario where she interacts with other versions of herself, Amara would undoubtedly get into a fist fight with all of them. There's an unspoken rule that they must fight to see which one is the strongest one.

She probably would have a genuinely difficult time in the world of Sonic The Hedgehog. Not because of any platforming challenges, but because she has to actively resist trying to pet everything. Even the badniks.

She probably would actually barely tolerate DBZ Broly but get along well with DBS Broly.

Amara might actually be a fantastic lounge singer.
