10 Fanfiction Recs
In honor of IFD 2024 and @ao3org organizing the feedback fest, here are 10 fanfiction from my bookmarks (all complete, lots of oldies) spread across as many fandoms as I read.
Scylla and Charybdis by Mithrigil, puella_nerdii Fandom: The Hunger Games "Finnick decides that, come hell or high water, he is bringing his tribute home from the seventieth Hunger Games. That tribute is Annie Cresta. But Finnick never thought that he would have to choose between bringing her home and keeping her safe, and he wants both. How Annie Cresta crept up on Finnick Odair."
I heard Hunger Games was back in fashion, so have this fic from 2011 that's just so good.
Primary Colors by RobotSquid Fandom: Homestuck (no, I am not apologizing!) "As a young troll living in the desert with the Dolorosa, the Signless comes across an unconscious psionic wriggler. Over the next few nights, they come to understand and care for each other. Although seemingly destined to be apart, they make a promise to be together again. But the destructive ways of the highbloods are becoming more widespread, and as the Signless begins to dream, he dedicates himself to regaining the peaceful world Alternia once was. But troll society as it stands now holds no sympathy for a candy red mutant, a psionic slave, or the matespritship they have."
A canon-compliant (I think, I stopped reading Homestuck around this time) story about the Signless that's full of great world building and honestly I don't remember much but I have it on my bookmarks list for a reason, I'm sure.
A Long Road to Destiny by Miko Fandom: Final Fantasy VII (set in Final Fantasy X verse) "The summoner's journey is a long, hard path to walk. Having guardians you trust makes all the difference in the world."
The story follows Cloud, who is half Al-Behd, as he makes his pilgrimage to be a summoner. Early on, he's joined by Sephiroth, a former Summoner, and Zack, who wants to be Sepiroth's guardian, and the three begin quite the epic adventure to save Spira.
Immovable, unbreakable by Cards_Slash Fandom: Assassin's Creed "Altair has known since he was thirteen years old, the year he realized he was an omega, that his body was never going to be his own. He thought he had overcome his own fate when Al Mualim agreed to allow him to stay on as an Assassin but even becoming the youngest Master Assassin ever did not save him. Following the semi-failed mission at Solomon's Temple, Altair is gifted to Malik as a reward for his service. Malik doesn't want Altair but he does not turn down the chance to show him his place."
A retelling of the first game if Altair was an omega, lost his assassin status, was summarily married off to Malik, and had to work around all that to still solve the mystery and save the day. Altair is truly the biggest badass in this story, and the historical perspective on an Omegaverse is truly neat.
Teach Me How to Fight (I'll Show You How to Win) by Skalidra Fandom: Batman (DCU) "Dick is taken by the Court after his parents' death to be trained as a Talon. He becomes loyal, deadly, and the Court's primary Talon. At least until he meets a boy from the Court's secondary, darker kind of servant who gets assigned to be his partner, and makes him start to care about things other than serving the Court. Tim, a boy-genius member of the Court, could have told anyone who listened that pairing Talon with the other boy - Jason - was a poor decision, and the fact that the Grandmaster of the Court doesn't listen, at all, is something he's finding less and less tolerable."
I love this fic so much that it was my first attempt at fanfiction binding.
Oh, You Wondrous Creature by Ginia Fandom: Final Fantasy XV "Ignis Scientia had learned at a young age to perform his duties quietly and flawlessly. He learned not to draw undue attention to himself, as attention had often lead to pain and humiliation at the hands of those who considered themselves to be his betters.
He has no idea what to do when the attentions of one Gladiolus Amicitia are directed at him. He expects harshness and cruelty, but is met with something quite the opposite."
This is classic frenemies to lovers scenario. Ignis and Gladio start off disliking each other, but as Gladio uncovers more about the discrimination Ignis endures, he shapes up to be a friend, ally, and eventual lover for the steward.
Someone You Have To Let In by Arsenic Fandom: Batman (DCU) "Basically a horribly sideways BDSM-AU where Talia actually raises Jason from the dead to use him to get Damian to safety. If you're looking for super indulgent h/c, I got your back. If you're not, this is probably not the fic for you."
This was my introduction to the BDSM-AU, also called the Dom/sub AU, where people have biological imperatives towards either dominance or submission. The world building here is especially great, as there's parts that talk about how you raise kids in this kind of dynamic. Also I love me some Dick/Jason so there.
Holding Cell by red-catmander Fandom: Guild Wars 2 "Rytlock Brimstone is trapped in a human jail with a hairless mouse, a talking plant intent on infuriating him and a headache the size of the Black Citadel. Now he's stuck fighting in the arena, buying his freedom one slog at a time, and the only thing awaiting him when he gets out is scrapper duty.
He hates these people. He's sure of it. Especially Thackeray.
He really, really wants to hate these people."
Listen, this fic is hilarious. Like funnier than anything Snargle Goldclaw could write (if you know you know). It's Rytlock/Logan in like the crackiest way possible and while I unironically love this fic to pieces, it's main use in my life is to deal 1d6 of psychic damage to members of my GW2 guild.
Maan'alor - The Prime by papermachine Fandom: Star Wars (Prequel Trilogy Era) "Jango Vhett was Mand’alor only briefly to the Mandalorian Empire before he was captured by the Jetii and Republic forces on Galidraan.
Now an unwilling guest on Kamino, he is buir to Boba and he fears his protection can only stretch so far for the rest of the children made in his image. Jango doesn’t know if he can save all of the clones from the Kaminoans or the Republic, but he does know this: Verde sa akaan nau tracyn kad. Warriors are forged in the fires of war.
These children are made for war, and they have been fighting to stay alive since their creation.
He will do what he must to save them."
The series is ongoing, and this is technically the third installment in the series, but it's a great place to start reading. The series follows various characters in this AU where the Sith Empire, the Mandalorian Empire, and the Republic are all at war with each other. Meanwhile, an unwilling Jango is template to the clones, and he is NOT happy about is. But rebellions are built in secret, and Jango never was a very good spy.
hope has bloody knuckles by independent_variables Fandom: Star Wars (Clone Wars Era) "Davijaan discovers mountains, thinks about the war, and maybe falls in love."
I think some people are turned off from this fic because it's a relationship between Davijaan (Odd Ball) and an OC, but the main focus is on Davijaan and Cody's relationship with each other as clones, as having survived the Clone Wars with no Order 66. There's also some lovely word building around Pantora which is the real appeal of the fic, imo. And of course Loren herself is easy to like, with a strong personality and well developed character. You really want to root for her and Davi as the story goes on. Like, come on you two idiots! Figure it out! I do love this fic very much.
Oh my gosh picking only 10 fics was hard. Here's my bookmarks page if you want to see what else I'm reading.

Au where Desmond is a dragon, looking like an apple of eden, and going around through the times 'saving' things, aka changing Canon history so no good people die, like kadar/malik/sef/auditore family/Connor's tribe. He can speak telepathically, has some sort of breath attack (doesn't have to be fire, could be anything) and of course flies. And while he saves anyone, he is loyal to the 'protagonist' Assassin most (altair, ezio, Connor, etc)
It would be symbolic for Desmond to have a sunlight-type breath attack. It doesn’t spew actual fire but a beam of white light as bright as the sun and has the same temperature as the solar flare that he died to save the world from.
Desmond has no idea what the hell it is or how it works so he just calls it his ‘laser beam’ because it looks like a laser to him.
Also… you say dragon and the first two things I thought of are “oh god, Desmond’s hoard is gonna be all the important stuff in AC lore” and…
You know what would be funny?
If Desmond has this urge, this itch, this need so ingrained into his dragon self to…
Kidnap the AC protagonists.
Because dragons are well known to kidnap princesses and a brave knight going on an adventure to save these damsel in distresses are simply part of human culture by now.
Just imagine…
Malik, after having lost a rock-paper-scissor contest, having to be the one to ‘save’ Altaïr from the fierce dragon that destroyed Solomon’s Temple just to burrow deep into the strange place where the Ark had been, incinerating Robert and his lackies before they could kill Kadar then taking off with both the Ark and an angry Altaïr shouting to put him down or he’ll skin his lizard skin. When he get to the supposed dragon lair, Altaïr is just in the middle of the hoard, reading an old book, with a large dragon curled around him, purring like a cat… a large cat with a purr that makes the entire cave shake slightly. Malik just staring at Altaïr with a ‘why aren’t you trying to escape???’ and Altaïr just going “Malik, good, you’re here. I’ve found letters and journals that says Al Mualim has betrayed us. Here.” Altaïr throws a bag at him, making Desmond grumble in displeasure which he just rolls his eyes as he said “We’ll get you something shiny. I’m sure the Templars have something in Arsuf.” and Malik is just “WHAT???”.
And that is how the legend of a dragon underneath Masyaf is born. It is said it guards the most prized treasures and knowledge in the entire world.
… It should. The Levantine Brotherhood had to be careful in transferring all of Desmond’s hoard or they’d get an ear-piercing howl equivalent of “FRAGILE, HANDLE WITH CARE!”
And the most annoying part is that they all know Desmond can talk to them telepathically. He just prefers to howl whenever he wants to be annoying.
The next one to be ‘kidnapped’ is Ezio and Ezio doesn’t need any dashing knight to save him. No, no. He got Desmond to just stay in the Sanctuary (which was made to be just as big as his home in Masyaf before because the Brotherhood had decided all secret lairs must have a basement as big as that… just in case the legendary dragon decides to visit or stay a while…) by promising to bring him as many shinies as he can.
Claudia is his favorite Auditore though because she figured a dragon would be a better guard for their money than a bank. Also, Desmond is okay with getting funds for any reconstructions or buildings Ezio wants to do because Ezio gives him more shinies which meant that they also have extra emergency money if they needed it.
And he managed to destroy the Papal Army in a matter of minutes. Sure, that meant Rome was left defenseless and the Borgias became known as the family that got Rome destroyed and sacked but… weeellll… at least Monteriggioni later became an independent state which is nice?
Edward found him… sorta by accident. He heard the tales of the legendary golden white dragon, of course. Of how it hoards the greatest most priceless riches in the entire world. But, by his time, everyone believed it to be a legend. Only those coming from Italy and Levant truly believed the legend. But Edward did ‘find’ a certain journal that talks about it from the headquarters of the Assassins that Mary took him to. So he went out to find this supposed dragon hoard and… well… he got captured on the way to the hoard.
In his damn ship no less.
The dragon just swooped right in and taken Edward from the helm, much to the surprise of his crew.
Adéwalé was the only one of his crew that had the heart to try and find him. He found Edward pinned to a very large hoard by one huge dragon hand and Adéwalé realized what Edward had been doing when he heard, “Alright, alright! I’m sorry! I won’t try to pocket anything anymore! Promise! Yes, I know this is my third promise today but I’m serious this time!”
Shay had heard the legends of the dragon but never saw it. Until Lisbon… When he got to the location where the POE was… the dragon was there, curled around it.
It told him that this POE was unstable and touching it would cause an earthquake that would destroy whatever was above them and Shay just went…
Alrighty then. He isn’t going to argue with the dragon of legends that can talk directly to his mind.
If Achilles still wants to take the POE, he can take it himself.
Achilles heard and believed the stories of the dragon, of course, so if the dragon says that then yeah… better order Shay to find all the other POEs in the manuscript and make sure they remain untouched for as long as possible then.
Desmond chills in the Grand Temple during Ratonhnhaké:ton’s time. His laser beam incinerates everything but does not have to give out any kind of flame at all so he can use it without worrying about accidentally causing forest fires which is nice. Desmond ‘kidnapped’ Ratonhnhaké:ton when he was a child but he let him go anyway so Ratonhnhaké:ton just started visiting him before he could kidnap him. The villagers believe that this means Ratonhnhaké:ton has been chosen by the dragon and it’s a chill dragon that’s only main problem is it likes to hoard feathers for some reason and that agitates all the other birds in the area.
Charles Lee… Charles Lee didn’t live too long in this one.
Also, Ratonhnhaké:ton doesn’t need a ship. He has a dragon!
Arno got captured by the dragon early on. The most embarrassing part was that the ‘knight’ who came to rescue him?
The pretty redhaired de la Serre girl he didn’t even know the name of.
And. It. Kept. Happening.
It’s gotten to the point that his father would check the dragon’s liar first if he can’t find his son and Uncle Pierre has started calling him ‘dragon bait’. He honestly preferred being called pisspot.
“Maybe this time you can finally ask her what her name is.”
“Shut up, Desmond.”
Jayadeep had to be the one to ‘save’ Jacob and Evie from the dragon that ‘kidnapped’ them. He knew the dragon had a liar underneath London and Henry had actually talked to the dragon twice now. He liked to be called Desmond and he was the same dragon as the one in the legends so he thought it wouldn’t take a long time for him to ask Desmond to give the twins back.
Unfortunately…
“Please, Evie, we need to go-”
“Just a few more minutes!” (gasp) “This is the first edition of the-”
“I found the rum! Lots of it! Hey, Desmond, can you get drunk?!”
“And this is the actual journal of Leonardo da Vinci, best known as an ally of our Brotherhood and- oh. Oh. Oooohhh… there’s a lot of nude sketches of a man in this one.”
“Where?! Trade you for a casket of rum?!”
“I thought you wanted to get Desmond drunk?”
“Right! Come on, Desmond. Let’s try and see if you can get drunk!”
Jayadeep sighed and left the hoard.
He’ll try again tomorrow.

Ok so same person
but the reason I think that Al Mualim set up the Temple of Solomon for them to fail is that the team of assasins was SET to fail.
Al Mualim knew that Robert de Sable was going to be there, and with the amount of templars in the temple and the difficulty of the final battle with him, it would be obvious that the mission would need at least all members to be master assassins.
But they weren't
Kadar is a journeyman, not a fully-fledged master assassin. He wouldn't have the skills needed to defend himself or the field experience to know what to do. He was a liabliy and the Grandmaster who knew what Robert de Salde was like put him on?
Additionally, Malik who was a master assassin was also on the team, which would be weird if you think about how we've seen him characterize as a devoted brother and assassin, why have the risk of the mission not being completed if Malik would put his brother above the creed.
Then Altair himself. He's cocky, unruly, and doesn't follow the creed which is already going to put him at odds with Malik who lives by the creed and puts a wedge between Kadar and Malik since Kadar has hero worship for Altair. Altair is skill but his devotion is to Al Mualim not the brotherhood and its ideals.
So why, a seasoned and wise Grandmaster like Al Mualim, would put together such an underclass and dysfunctional team to retrieve the artifact?
Because it would have made his plan much smoother.
Now hear me out, we already know that in-game Kadar died and Malik was pretty much demoted to Dai but where Malik is sent speaks volumes of what was originally planned for him. Based on how Malik's anger and grief centered around his brother in game, I would like to speculate that Malik lost is arm trying to keep Kadar safe. As we know that failed but if Malik had died as well but Altair who is very well known for getting his missions complete gave the apple back without both of them. It would have completely alienated Altair from the rest of the assassins. And I would assume that both Kadar and Mail were liked as well, Kadar seems pretty friendly and Malik is very reliable.
And as Altair is alienated, Al Mualim would have easily manipulated Altair and actually won the battle. Given that Altair never would have questioned the creed.
And this is also supported by the fact Malik, who DID get the apple, and came back with his arm mangled, was shipped off to one of the most dangerous cities at that time for assassins. He wasn't supposed to live, only to be a wedge to alienate Altair.
As for your interpretation, I totally think that Al Mualim had backup plans, I mean cannon WAS a backup plan.
thoughts?
Well, I’m not sure what else I could really contribute, but I did like reading your thoughts :)) sorry for any misunderstanding
I’ll just broadcast it so other people can read some good ac1 thoughts, even though I don’t have much to contribute at all
I’m pretty lenient with interpretations and headcanons like this and I could see multiple aspects of it working out the way you put it, so !! Y know
Again, sorry I don’t have much to say, but I think others would have fun reading your thoughts too. Thank you!

I literally cannot believe that Malik Al-Sayf does not get the credit he deserves.
The man lost his arm, his future as an assassin in the field, and his younger brother, all because of Altair’s arrogance.
And even so, he was STILL able to forgive Altair.
Literally the words in response to Altair’s apology are so powerful:
I do not accept your apology because you are not the same man who went with me into Solomon’s Temple, and so you have nothing to apologize for.
Like holy shit, this dude is so underrated.

Series: The Heir, The Reader, and Clay
Title:Run It Again Fandom: Assassin’s Creed Characters:Desmond Miles, Malik Al-Sayf, Kadar Al-Sayf Pairings: Altair/Malik Chapters: I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII | VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV | XV | XVI | XVII | XVIII Enabler: @kingbob2-0 Tags: Time Travel, Desmond Raised By Others, De-Aged Desmond, Blood and Injury, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, WIP, I Googled Medicine In 12 Century Syria, I Googled When Children Lose Their Teeth, I Googled Properties Of Opium, I Did Fucking Research GDI Summary: They hadn’t found an answer yet, and Layla was impatient despite the promise of the Grey being timeless in its nature. She didn’t want to have to search for an answer that might never come–so she made another suggestion. Why not just change it? Why not counter the Isu influence on the Pieces of Eden where it counted, and counter what Juno inevitably did to the Eye in the Grand Temple?
It was all the push that Desmond needed to let himself be just that bit more selfish. So selfish he chose to be, and there was one moment where the Isu’s hold on the Pieces of Eden had a profound effect–the Levantine Brotherhood. Altair Ibn La’Ahad. Al Mualim. There was just one problem–Desmond was eight, a child, and didn’t remember dying.
Layla at least had his back, even if she was just a bit fashionably late.
Fever took Kadar.
They hadn't gotten far from the Temple; Malik had knocked over more debris in haste to flee which hopefully trapped de Sable in the room for a bit longer. A few well placed attacks to the wooden frames also limited the avenue of escape, although there could be no guarantee that de Sable wasn't right behind them, ready to finish the job he'd nearly completed within Solomon's Temple. They couldn't continue onward for much further as it was; Kadar had already begun to grow weak the further along they'd run and his wound need treatment now.
Treatment Malik could not provide.
Malik breathed in shakily and placed the back of his right hand to Kadar's forehead and felt the way his brother burned to the touch. He was sweating, shivering, and completely unconscious now. Before Malik had dragged him into this cave Kadar had already grown weak and tired; his wound had stopped bleeding, but the danger had only just begun and there was nothing Malik could do. He had no vinegar, no salt water or rose oil or wine or even opium. He could cauterize the wound but given how long they'd taken the less helpful cauterization could be. Instead Malik knew, here, he would watch Kadar die.
Kadar was barely out of his childhood. Malik leaned over and placed a kiss to his brother's brow, pressed their foreheads together and fought back the tears at the thought of it. Kadar was barely out of his childhood. What had Altair been thinking? Malik wanted to scream--of course he hadn't. The idiot had barely a thought in his head except killing and fighting these days with little regard for thinking or strategy. It shook him how much Altair hadn't bothered to even listen--seeing only an enemy, a man they were told to avoid unless necessary, an obstacle to remove.
A deep and heavy breath left Malik as he shuddered; he should end it here. Kadar would only suffer--Malik knew as the older brother he should end it here. It'd be a mercy killing, surely. He could be forgiven for this--it was a mercy. A quick, painless death to the painful, slow end that waited Kadar. It would be better to ease him; better to let him go. Malik fingered the shorter of his blades as he stared down at Kadar's feverish form. His lips trembled. It'd be so easy, just end it, let him go--he'll be free of the pain just let him go....
Malik tossed himself away from Kadar with a yell and dug his hands into his hair never-mind the pain of his broken arm and the way the bone scraped raw against itself he didn't care. How could he even thing such a thing about Kadar? He curled down and fought with himself. How could he think it'd be a mercy? This was his baby brother, his only family--a child by all rights, a novice who should have been nowhere near a mission such as this, who should have been safe in Masyaf or tending to a Rafiq at a bureau, not on a mission like this. Please, not like this.
Somewhere nearby rocks tumbled from above, followed by a child's yelp and the muffled sound of glass. It was enough of a distraction to pull Malik from his dark thoughts as he jerked his head up and out of his arms--hissed as it pulled on the broken bone--and began to sweep the cavern he'd taken as refuge. Nothing in the immediate vicinity, so Malik climbed to his feet and stumbled his way back toward the entrance when faint sniffling reached his ears. He moved a bit faster, turned a corner, and froze.
Hallucinating, Malik thought, I must be hallucinating.
The boy, a child that Malik wouldn't have even titled a novice, more like an initiate in age, sat on the ground in strange clothes rubbing at his head. His hair was shorn short in a familiar cut that Malik knew if grew just a little longer would curl into a mess when not taken care of properly. There was a cut on his lip, old-yet-fresh in the way it had scabbed over and clearly looked ready to scar--and it was familiar in a way that burned sick in Malik's gut. Cautiously Malik dropped down to a crouch and called out softly, "Child?"
Golden-brown, eagle-sight--and Malik had to swallow because this should be impossible. He opened his mouth to say Altair in plain shock but stopped himself when the boy scrambled back with a yelp and ended up slicing his hand open on a piece of pottery shard that slipped out of a burlap sack and smelled faintly of--of myrrh? Malik glanced to the sack, curious, and then back to the mini-Altair. The boy curled in on himself, muttering something that sounded like sorry and didn't mean to as he raised his hands and Malik--Malik burned.
"I am not going to hurt you, little one," Malik said softly, and the boy stopped for a moment, shuddered, and then looked at him. Those eyes brought Malik up short again, at the way the reflected and refracted the light into they were a brilliant gold sheen like a cats in the dark--and then they dulled to a more brown color and the boy fully uncurled and snapped his gaze to Malik's broken arm.
"You're hurt," the child said, and Malik gave a sad sort of smile. "You should see a doctor."
"I will," Malik assured him softly. "Later. Right now I--" and for a moment he stilled then remembered Kadar. He turned and looked back down the cavern, shifted until he could catch sight of his brother around the corner and--Kadar was safe, still feverish and unconscious, but safe. A part of Malik relaxed as he turned back to the child only to startle when he found the boy right at his side peering at Kadar with wide eyes; his hand bloodied and clenched to a fist at his side.
"Is he ok?" the child looked up to Malik and Malik had to swallow at the sight of gold-bright eyes again as he dragged his gaze from the hand to the child's face.
Hoarsely Malik said back, "No. No he is not." The boy frowned, opened his mouth to say something, then seemed to think better of it. "What is your name, child?"
"Desmond," Desmond said, then looked to the sack and back to Malik. "Uhm, mister. Do you know what that is?" Desmond pointed to the sack, to the broken piece of pottery that had the strong scent of myrrh to it.
Malik arched an eyebrow at Desmond; a part of him surprised the boy had no knowledge of either the sack or what was in it--he couldn't be certain to which the question applied given the point but he bet it was in regards to the sack itself or perhaps the scent of myrrh. At any rate he murmured a faint, "Myrrh," to which Desmond cocked his head in a curious, bird-like gesture that reminded Malik so eerily of Altair that he breathed in slowly. Malik's gaze darted to the broken pot and said carefully, "A tincture of it, at least. For perfume or...medicine."
Medicine. Malik stumbled on the thought--medicine. His mind drifted back to Kadar, to the sick feeling in his gut that pushed him to just end it, let him go, let it be peaceful and then back to the bag that had a pot of myrrh tincture, broken. A bag that might have more. Malik moved with a flutter of robes, quickly brushed past Desmond who flinched at the sudden motion and began to dig through the bag one handed with single minded devotion. He pulled out stoppers and sniffed contents, cautiously in case of anything poisonous, and felt just the slightest bit faint with relief.
"Medicine," Malik said, breathless, and then gathered everything up. He looked to Desmond, then gestured back toward Kadar and smiled, just softly. "Come, child. I could use your help." Malik paused, then looked to Desmond's hand, and added, "Once I have taken care of your hand."
Kadar's stab wound, now that Malik had the materials to properly disinfect and clean, then seal the wound itself, was not actually that deep--at most half a finger's length, and the width of a blade. The shock was what primarily would have killed him first, Malik understood once the wound was cleaned, cauterized, and sealed as best Malik was able with one working hand and Desmond's one littler hand to help. Infection was the second risk, and now that risk was lower. It took hours more before Kadar's fever finally broke, and that was only after the use of opium.
Malik took some of the opium himself for the pain of his arm, hated how it made him tired, but accepted that without it he would barely be functioning going forward. It cleared his thoughts enough that he could question Desmond's very presence at least, although he kept the suspicion light given how the child flinched at every sharp movement. Everything the boy said only raised more questions as Malik worked to carefully interrogate the child--eight, Desmond said he was a mere eight years--while he watched and waited with bated breath for Kadar to come back to him, or die.
"Teacher gave it to me," Desmond scuffed one foot with the strange shoe into the dirt when Malik gestured to his scar. "I wasn't fast 'nough."
Malik raised a brow and said shortly, "What, was your teacher using a live blade for practice?" with the faintest hint of disbelief.
"Mmmaaybe?" Desmond tilted his head, that confused bird-like gesture that felt like a punch to his gut ever time Malik saw it. If he hadn't known Altair he would've thought the bastard had gone and sired a child, except Altair had shown little interest in women except for Adha and even that was only a year past and Desmond far too old to be from the union--and far too young to be from Umar, either, which made his presence so unlikely that Malik wanted to maybe call it an act of a miracle brought by Allah.
Malik's gaze slid to his pouch, to the treasure of the Ark, and wondered if his thought of Desmond's presence being a gift not that far from the mark.
"Aren't you suppos'd to use live blades to practice?" Desmond asked, and Malik had to stop himself from ranting because no. Just--no. Instead he pinched the bridge of his nose and breathed out slowly, reminded himself that Desmond was a child who probably knew no better.
"No," Malik said forcefully. "By Allah, no. You use a practice weapon, something dulled that gives bruises--cypress and leather, not metal. Not a blade."
"Oh." Desmond looked down.
Malik breathed out, careful and measured. "It is--" it was not fine, do not say fine, so he shook his head instead and placed hand on Kadar's forehead instead of finishing his sentence. Cooler to the touch, more within his normal range and Malik relaxed. "His fever has broken."
"That's good, right?" Desmond asked, crawled up next to Malik's right side to peer down at Kadar with wide eyes. Malik rested his right hand atop Desmond's head, rubbed his fingers through Desmond's hair which brought the boy's eyes up to look at Malik wide and just a bit confused.
"It is a hopeful sign," Malik said, and it was true at least. The breaking of the fever might mean that Kadar would waken, and if Kadar woke then Malik could assess how quickly he could get his brother moving. His hand drifted to the pouch with the treasure. He thought of the Templars who could still find them at any moment--the trail wasn't exactly hidden, Malik had been more concerned about escape at the time, but now--now he worried about being found. His gaze drifted to Desmond at his side and he felt a chill down his back. If the Templars found the boy with them--
"He should go to a hosp'tal," Desmond frowned at Malik, almost accusatory. It dragged Malik from his thoughts; he blinked a moment, then arched an eyebrow at Desmond who crossed his arms and said petulantly, "He should!"
Malik sighed, heavily. "When he wakes, child," he told the boy gently. "I cannot move him as I am." Malik gestured to his now splinted arm--curtesy of the child next to him who had demanded that he splint the bone with such childish stubbornness that Malik couldn't deny him that. Desmond wasn't wrong anyway; the bone needed to be splinted before Malik did even more damage. Already he figured there would be permanent loss of the arm in some manner after the amount of abuse he'd pushed it through. There was little chance the bone would heal right at all.
Desmond pouted. "I could help."
"You are much too small and Kadar much too big for that," Malik responded dryly. "No, we wait for him to wake." Malik climbed to his feet, stretched, and thought back to the Templars and the trail. They were still a few days from Masyaf, and if luck would hold once the Templars dug themselves free of the Temple they would ride straight for the fortress and not hunt down the ragged tracks Malik left behind. Of course it'd be better if Malik went to cover their tracks now, now that Kadar had a better chance of survival--now that his wound was as cleaned and sealed as Malik could make it, and the fever had finally begun to pass.
His right hand drifted to his pouch, and then curled into Desmond's hair a second later as Malik smiled down at the boy. "Watch Kadar for me. I need to check outside." He watched as Desmond's eyes went round and wide, surprised to be given such an important task, but then smiled as Desmond settled down with a stiff nod and turned his gaze toward Kadar with singular focus. It amused him how much this small child reminded him of a small Altair, down to the stubborn set of his jaw when given a task he deemed important.
It also hurt to see such a tiny Altair in front of him in all but name, a boy Malik could not reconcile with the man he'd become so easily now. With a quiet sigh Malik turned and started out toward the entrance to the cavern. There were some ferns nearby he could use to cover some of the tracks, and if he remembered right a stream flowed a short ways away so he could gather some water. His waterskin was getting dangerously low and the heat of the day would sap what little he had left between the three of them when Kadar woke and they were able to leave.
If Kadar woke, Malik's mind traitorously reminded him and he frowned at the thought. That edge of give him mercy drifted through his thoughts once more, no less cruel in its coldness and Malik had to firm his heart against it. He would not. Kadar might yet live, the wound might not yet become septic. He hoped he'd done enough, done it quickly enough, to have at least increased Kadar's chances of survival. It had to be enough. At the very least if nothing else happened then Kadar could go to become Rafiq if not Assassin, between what damage today will eventually show upon his brother. Maybe Kadar will recover enough to continue his studies, but a part of Malik feared his career to being anything more than Novice had certainly come to an abrupt end.
"He'll hate it," Malik mumbled as he took a step out of the cavern. He raised his right arm and glanced up to the sky--night. The cold hadn't yet sunk into the ground, but the dark sky above signaled to Malik it soon will. A fire, he thought, for warmth and for food. There were some travel rations he had that he could share with Desmond. They wouldn't taste the best, and he doubted they would truly be filling to a child, but until he could find something more they would have to do. A fire, water, and hiding their tracks. Malik nodded to himself and got to work in silence.
Kadar woke with the sun and Malik breathed easier. A good sign, he thought, even as he forced Kadar to take some of the opium for the pain he no doubt felt. Desmond still slept in a little corner of the cavern, peacefully dreaming whatever young boys dreamed of after Malik had gotten the child to settle down. The rations the night before hadn't gone over all that well--Desmond at first pouted, then tried to be stubborn about the food, talking about ordering something to which Malik wondered just what sort of life Desmond lived to order food like some nobleman, yet be dressed in such ragged and dirty clothes; eventually thought he took the rations and ate, and eventually Desmond drifted into sleep.
Malik did not miss the days of stubborn young children; he could remember when Kadar had acted as such, pouting about the food on their table, stubborn about sleep. Tiredly Malik massaged the bridge of his nose while Kadar leaned against the cavern wall and watched him in a sort of daze.
"You should have left me," Kadar said, and it wasn't the first time since he'd woken that he'd made the comment and a part of it made Malik sick.
"That will not, and is not, going to happen," Malik replied forcefully, again, and Kadar fell silent. His gaze drifted over to Desmond, thoughtful, and Malik sighed explosively. "You are also not carrying him. Not with that," here Malik gestured to Kadar's stomach. "We will wait until he wakes."
Everything was a waiting game at this point. Wait until the Templars find them, or until Desmond wakes. Wait for Kadar to be awake enough to move, for the fever to stop. Wait, wait, wait. Malik hated it. He felt restless, as well as tired, and he knew he was on the edge of snapping at Kadar. He wouldn't though, Malik had to forcefully bite himself back because Kadar didn't deserve it. Kadar didn't deserve his ire or his frustrations; neither did Desmond and Malik refused to let himself take out his ire on either. They were children; they did not deserve it.
Kadar narrowed his eyes, but he didn't speak again for which Malik found himself the slightest bit grateful. He didn't know what he would do if he heard is brother speak as if his life were somehow less just one more time. His gaze drifted over to the child, to Desmond, who was curled up on Malik's white Master Assassin's hood and red sash, mouth partially open and drooling. From this angle Malik could see that Desmond was actually missing a tooth, probably recently lost. It struck Malik that for all Desmond had nodded or asked questions or complained, the boy hadn't smiled and when he spoke it wasn't with the wide, gaping mouth of a child.
Desmond shifted in his sleep, and Malik dragged his gaze away over to Kadar who stared at him almost contemplatively through the slight haze of an opiod. He hadn't seen his brother move much, which could be a good or a bad thing really, but Malik needed to know Kadar's limits. If they were to leave when Desmond woke, to avoid Templars and whatever else they could, then Malik needed to know the ways in which Kadar could move--and that he could move without furthering his own injury.
"Up, Kadar," Malik said. He got to his own feet and then raised a brow at Kadar who looked at him, confused. "I want you to walk to the cave entrance and back."
"...why?" Kadar asked, the barest hint of a childish whine in the back of his throat. Malik narrowed his gaze in response and Kadar, with a huff, got to his feet gingerly. He rotated the arm that had been dislocated with a wince, and Malik worried he'd let the arm be for too long in waiting until they'd reached the cave before he set it back to place. After a second Kadar began hobbling walk--slower than Malik would like, but careful which he appreciated. He watched until Kadar turned the corner, then settled to wait.
When Kadar made his way back, Malik greeted him and checked on the state of the wound. The muscles had pulled around it, the slightest bit, and there was the smallest of blood patches on the bandages Malik had wrapped around it, but otherwise the linens were clean and the wound undisturbed. Malik breathed a sigh of relief, wrapped Kadar's stomach back up, and helped his brother settle against the wall. A slight beading of sweat had gathered at Kadar's forehead and Malik fought back the urge to bite his lip as he placed hand against his brother's brow.
Kadar brushed Malik away with a short, "I am fine. It is just...sore." His breathing was heavier, Malik noted. He would not be able to outrun the Templars.
Quiet, Malik drifted back from Kadar and bowed his head. He gazed contemplatively down and placed his right hand upon the pouch with the treasure as he thought; Kadar would not be able to outrun the Templars if they found them, and Malik refused to sacrifice his brother to their whims. Then there was the child whose stamina Malik could not account for, a cut on his hand that needed to be watched and salved alongside Kadar's wound, and Malik's own injury to his arm to account for. It struck him then like a blow.
They would not make it back to Masyaf alive. Not together, in the least. Malik could ride back alone if he stole a horse; he could maybe draw the Templars off of the trail of Kadar and Desmond if he were truly clever. It would mean bringing them to Masyaf's doorstep. There was still a chance the Templars might not know of the Fortress in the Mountain; a chance Altair had actually used his brain and hidden his tracks which meant only Malik's remained. A part of Malik felt sick with the thought of showing the Templar's the way if they hadn't known it already. He would be putting Novices at risk, if he drew them there. His gaze drifted to Kadar who held one hand over his gut wound and breathed heavily, and then over to Desmond who snored softly and drooled in his sleep. Children, Malik thought. They were just children.
The Novices in Masyaf were children too, but they had Assassins and Master Assassins and Dai's to keep them safe; not to mention the Master, Al Mualim. Masyaf was defensible where Kadar and Desmond were wholly not. They were vulnerable but protected and here, Desmond and Kadar, weren't. The indecision burned in his chest--dare he risk his brother and Desmond and stay to the Creed, keep Masyaf safe and hidden or dare he defy the rules because of sentiment. Malik knew the choice Altair would make.
Altair would leave Desmond. Altair would leave Kadar. Altair would leave Malik. He'd report back and consider them dead and wash his hands of it. He'd not let sentiment hold him back; Altair would stay true to the Creed in his own interpretation, religiously so, and Malik knew it was why he was so favored by the Master. For all the Malik argued semantics with Altair, out of the both of them Altair had not once betrayed the Creed. Bent it, certainly, like with the worker back in the Temple--someone who could have been innocent, but more likely had not only which Malik understood in hindsight. Malik closed his eyes and breathed out slowly.
Malik was not Altair. He opened his eyes, hardened his heart, and resolved himself to his course of action. Altair would follow the Creed. Malik would not.
Desmond shifted and his hand stung and he fought back the tears as it brushed against the ground even wrapped as he opened his eyes and blearily peered around himself. He sat up and rubbed at his face with his uninjured hand as he tried to remember what happened and how he cut it--had it been dad again? Like the lip but not like the lip? Or had it been when he chose to skip training because his lip hurt and he didn't want to hurt again so soon? He tried to remember as he sat himself up, as he stared at his lap and the soft red cloth that slipped from his shoulders as he tried to remember and--Desmond didn't recognize it except hazily. A dream, he thought. Hadn't he dreamed the nice Arabic man who'd spoken with him and cleaned his wound? Hadn't he dreamed of the bag of weird smelling clay pots that he found stuffed in the tree he'd climbed to hide away in? Hadn't he dreamed falling from a branch, the bag being knocked loose, and landing on stone in a cave?
Blearily Desmond looked around; stone walls and stone ground and dirt and dust and a grey cloth bunched up as a pillow and a red cloth bunched up as a blanket and the merry remains of a fire and two strangers dark skinned like him, darker skinned like mom and Desmond blinked. He stared at them confused as his eyes burned and the world washed into that weird grey-and-blue-and-white-and-black indistinctness that he could see. He stared as the older man who had the start of a goatee and a broken arm washed a bright gold-white-safe-important-safe and the smaller man--older boy?--washed blue-gold-important-kind-safe-ally-friend and then Desmond blinked and his head hurt but he didn't care because it--
"--wasn't a dream?" Desmond said, half under his breath as his eyes went wide and he looked to-to-to Malik, that was the name the man told him. Malik-and-Kadar who were brothers with Hidden Blades which meant they were also Brothers but they wore strange clothing that Desmond didn't recognize and had honest-to-god swords and daggers and while Desmond trained with swords and daggers and Hidden Blades and throwing knives and every sharp object under the sun he also knew that they were considered old weapons and old ways and things were Different Now even if mom and dad refused to tell him what Different Now meant except that they had to live on the Farm and not in the City and that the City was Off Limits because of the Templars whoever they were.
Malik's head came up and looked to Desmond and he hand that pinched-but-not-pinched expression, the strange fondness that had made Desmond more confused than wary because why was he fond of Desmond? Desmond the screw up-not good enough-never good enough-need to be good enough. Mom was the only one who looked at him with fondness but she left him with dad more often than not because she had Work To Do and Desmond was Too Young and not allowed away from the Farm.
Desmond rubbed at his eyes again and tried to fight down the urge to panic because he was Here--wherever here was--and clearly not at the Farm which meant dad was going to be even worse and mom was going to be disappointed and then there would be more training and Desmond didn't want more training and--a hand in his hair broke him out of his spiraling thoughts and Desmond looked up at Malik who had tilted his head back as he scrubbed fingers through Desmond's hair and murmured soothing words in Arabic that Desmond understood only because mom taught him Arabic while dad taught him English.
When Malik noticed his attention he smiled soft-reassuring-kind-safe and asked, "Are you back with me now?" and Desmond ducked his head back down and nodded.
"Y-Yeah. 'M sorry."
"You have nothing to apologize for," Malik said, and then glanced over to Kadar and Desmond followed his gaze and Kadar stared and stared and Desmond wanted to inch down small even as he inched closer to Malik and wrapped his injured hand in Malik's white-white-white robes. He liked the whiteness of them it reminded him of his favorite white hoodie that he had hidden in the back of his closet and only wore when mom came home and he didn't have training.
Kadar got to his feet and Desmond saw that it looked painful. He held himself ginger-short-hobbled and walked with a weird not-grace-yet-grace as he limped over to Malik and Desmond gripped Malik's white-white-white robes tighter and winced when his hand stung-hurt-tingled with warmth and pain and used that to focus himself back as he leaned into Malik's side. Malik brushed fingers in his hair and said something soft that Desmond couldn't understand but looked to Kadar.
"Kadar will not hurt you, child," Malik said and Desmond nodded slowly. He knew that.
"He's safe," Desmond said back, but he winced when Kadar moved and tugged on Malik's robes and said, "but he's not okay." Desmond looked to Kadar who looked back almost surprised, and then Desmond raised his head to Malik and repeated, "He needs a hospital."
"I know," Malik replied, and Kadar looked to Malik and Desmond thought he looked angry-betrayed-hurt for a moment before he shut down. Malik continued for Kadar, "Desmond helped me tend your wound, Kadar."
Kadar ducked his head, mumbled thanks, and then shuffled back toward the entrance to the cave and Malik sighed heavily.
"Kadar is right," he said, words gentle-soft-kind as he looked to Desmond. "It is not safe for us to stay here any longer. We need to move."
Desmond curled away; they were leaving and Desmond knew that meant he would stay here. It had to right? He'd stumbled on them and didn't know where he was and he thought he'd been dreaming-sleeping-dreaming before he drifted off and he'd been freer with his thoughts and his words because they were blue-gold and white-gold and safety and important but they weren't Brothers really because they wore strange clothes and had weapons Desmond never saw on the other Brothers except the Hidden Blade. They definitely weren't from the Farm so they definitely weren't someone dad would ever want Desmond interacting with.
Malik got to his feet and started toward the entrance to the cave, then looked back to Desmond and arched a brow as if to say well? Desmond's eyes went wide and he grabbed the cloth that Malik had given him for a makeshift pillow and blanket and quickly got to his feet. He folded the material then held it out to hand back, just a bit hesitant, and Malik give him that patient-kind-smile.
"How about you carry those for now," Malik said, then beckoned with his right hand for Desmond to follow. "Kadar certainly can't and I have plenty I need to carry already," Desmond watched as Malik's hand drifted down to his hip pouch before he seemed to realize what he'd done. "Come, Desmond. We need to leave."
Desmond ducked his head because that we meant We and Desmond didn't know what to think about that. The strange-safe-important white-gold and blue-gold men wanted to take him with. A part of him knew that was the right choice but the rest thought about dad and mom and how they would take it because didn't that mean Desmond was running away? And Running Away was Not Allowed and Desmond tried to keep the Not Allowed things he did to a minimum because he didn't want more training and dad would give him more training and--Malik's hand was in his hair again, drawing Desmond from his thoughts. His hand then drifted down to Desmond's back and he pushed Desmond lightly forward.
"Come, child," Malik said, gentle in his urging. "Let us go." And Desmond--Desmond followed.

“From the first key art of Bayek, his posture and his missing ring finger to setting the foundations of the brotherhood like his successor, Altair Ibn-La’Ahad, The Reformer, it became quite obvious that the highly anticipated next installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is trying to recapture the feel of the original game”

What Fanfiction Should I Bind Next?
I can’t quite decide what book to bind next. I chose “Teach Me How to Fight (I’ll Show You How to Win)” in part because it is only 60k total (a little less than that actually) and it is easier to bind a smaller book since there are less signatures to sew. But, for this next one, I’m ready for a challenge.
Summaries for each fic are under the cut.
"the sun is our, the day is new" by notavodkashot https://archiveofourown.org/works/12302844/chapters/27967644
Fandom: Final Fantasy XV Pairing: Cor Leonis/Nyx Ulric
Two very competent idiots, one small child. It shouldn't be too hard, right? Or Nyx and Cor adopt Prompto (and each other), while Regis and Clarus have quiet, dignified freakouts in the background.
"Immovable, unbreakable" by Cards_Slash https://archiveofourown.org/works/2685119/chapters/6006827
Fandom: Assassin's Creed Pairing: Malik Al-Sayf/Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad
Altair has known since he was thirteen years old, the year he realized he was an omega, that his body was never going to be his own. He thought he had overcome his own fate when Al Mualim agreed to allow him to stay on as an Assassin but even becoming the youngest Master Assassin ever did not save him. Following the semi-failed mission at Solomon's Temple, Altair is gifted to Malik as a reward for his service. Malik doesn't want Altair but he does not turn down the chance to show him his place.
"Fool Me Twice" by Charmkeeper https://archiveofourown.org/works/18247526/chapters/43176068
Fandom: Final Fantasy XV Pairing: Prompto Argentum/Ignis Scientia/Gladio Amicitia
Ignis had bartered for the babe years ago now. It was supposed to be his. Too bad it was promised to someone else too.
"Maan'alor - The Prime" by papermachine https://archiveofourown.org/works/30731636/chapters/75845207
Fandom: Star Wars Pairing: None/Gen
Jango Vhett was Mand’alor only briefly to the Mandalorian Empire before he was captured by the Jetii and Republic forces on Galidraan.
He will do what he must to save them.
(The formatting for the Mando'a will be a challenge for this one)
"hope has bloody knuckles" by independent_variables https://archiveofourown.org/works/40008048/chapters/100190655
(you must be signed in to see this work)
Fandom: Star Wars Pairing: Davijaan/OC
She sat up from her slouch against the wall, studying him more intently. “Huh. The only footage in the news has you all in full armor. You're shorter than I expected.” He snorted. “I’ll be sure to file a complaint with the manufacturer on your behalf.” “Shit! That was unbelievably rude,” she sputtered, cheeks flushing, waving her hands as if to fan away her words. “It just slipped out, I’m so sorry! I promise I usually think before I speak, it’s just been a really long week. I’m– I’m Loren.” “I go by Odd Ball.” She relaxed a bit, and her smile returned. “Nice to meet you, Odd Ball.” “Pleasure’s all mine.” *** Davijaan discovers mountains, thinks about the war, and maybe falls in love.
"The Fifth Act" by Sinnatious https://archiveofourown.org/works/362128/chapters/587564
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII Pairing: None/Gen
Cloud has an accident with a Time materia, and finds himself in the middle of the Wastes at the start of the Wutai War. There are people to save... and for that, there are three people who need to die.
"Jason Todd: The Not-So-Outlaw" by GoAwayOlivia https://archiveofourown.org/works/7601896/chapters/17300497
Fandom: Batman Pairing: None/Gen (Friendship and Family pairings)
Jason Todd isn't what Batman made him, he isn't what the Joker made him, he isn't what the League of Assassins made him, and he isn't what the Lazarus Pit made him. He's his own person and he's taking himself back, one home renovation at a time. Also he might just make friends with the people who are supposed to be his brothers while he's at it.

Had another funny plot idea. Desmond in the Crusades, trying to stop certain things. Altair and co still go to Solomon's temple, only when they reach the end, all the Templars, including Robert de Sable, are dead and there's an unknown 'assassin' holding the treasure Al Mualim wants. And Desmond is staring at them like he just got caught at midnight with his hand in the cookie jar. (Where'd the time go? He thought he had like, another fifteen minutes to escape before they got there. Shit.)
You… you do understand what this means, right?
We now have, in our hand, the honored tradition of…
Altaïr chasing his target all over the city.
And this time it isn’t some Templar who has guards on his side.
No, no, no.
This time it’s with an unknown (most probably) Assassin who has the skills of three Master Assassin and a Grand Master (and maybe, just maybe, the vague Bleeds of a pirate).
So when Desmond panicked and booked it, Altaïr was immediately hot on his tails before Malik could even try to suggest they talk it- Nevermind, they’re already too far for them to hear Malik.
Malik and Kadar would stay behind just to confirm the kills (and realize that they were all killed by a sharp blade but not technically a hidden blade, perhaps a dagger or even a throwing knife of some kind… two of the guards were taken out by surprise at the same time, most probably, and there was a hint of a strange smell in the air…)
Back to Desmond and Altaïr…
Their chase would definitely have this kind of vibe:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they would be freerunning all over Jerusalem, from the busy streets to the rooftops, ignoring the guards who try to shout at them and sometimes they’d even take the time to take those guards down when they try to apprehend them but then the chase would continue.
Desmond didn’t actually have a plan other than get to the stables and grab a horse, hopefully outrun Altaïr.
Hell.
He didn’t even know where he planned to go.
Anywhere but Jerusalem, that’s for damn sure.
Goddammit, he should have made more smoke bombs!
Desmond got his wish and he finally managed to get a horse from the stable, Altaïr hot on his tail.
He had hoped getting a horse would give Desmond enough distance for him to finally escape Altaïr.
And, seriously, his legs were killing him and his lungs were about ready to explode, he hoped Altaïr was the same.
Desmond’s horse was fast and it wasn’t long before they were out of Jerusalem.
And that’s when Desmond realized he fucked up.
Because he had picked the first horse he saw, all in the hopes of quickly distancing himself from Altaïr.
But Altaïr…
Altaïr picked his horse.
The same horse he had been using for a while now.
The same horse that was noted to be one of Masyaf’s finest…
And fastest…
Well.
Fuck.
Desmond knew he was screwed the moment Altaïr’s horse caught up with him, galloping next to him.
And Altaïr…
The motherfucker tackled him off of his goddamn horse and Desmond couldn’t help the yelp of indignation that left his lips as he was suddenly bodyslammed off.
Now, a common reaction would be to try and fight off one’s assailant while they’re falling.
But Desmond..
Desmond trusted Altaïr.
And so, instead of fighting him off, he wrapped his arms around Altaïr’s arms and embraced him tightly as he braced for impact.
Too surprised by Desmond’s action, Altaïr forgot the next part of his plan which was to grab the horse’s reins so that they would fall to the ground nearby.
Instead…
They both skidded and rolled until…
They both fell to the nearby cliff, plunging into the uncaring wild currents below.

Dragon Age AUs
{ Quick Run-Down on the Dragon Age AUs/Verses for my non-Dragon Age characters. Fallout Run-Down // Far Cry Run-Down // Modern Rundown }
Fandomless OCs:
Adrienne Rydell: Witch of the Wilds; Former Mortalitasi
Altair:  Altair would be an ancient elf, probably sided with Fen'Harel during his whole thing and kind of wandering since. Seems very serious at first, but has a mean sort of playful streak. Doesn't like seeing people hurt innocents
Basir: Abomination / Fully Possessed Mage
Charlotte: Apprentice Mage, not much magic
Lorelei: Lorelei is a bit of a cinnamon roll. Restores books, technically a mage, but very little magic and doesn't realize it and she mostly just loves reading and learning. [But also has this habit of wandering into danger without realizing its dangerous.] Most likely to somehow befriend a dragon.
Mairwen: [oops, she’s over @daggersandsparks ] Apostate posing as a Rogue
Rana:  Abomination / Fully Possessed Mage
Soroth:  Demon / Fully Possessed Mage
Fandom OCs:
Malcolm: Defected Templar, protects civilians and apostates
Amita: Mairwen’s elvhen half sister. Fighter
Faustus: Elf-blooded Fighter, Former Venatori, current Blacksmith ;  Faustus would be a former Venatori [not really by choice, I was debating giving him a similar sort of thing to Fenris with magical experiments but undecided if I wanted Lyrium involved or not] who managed to get out and would have joined the Inquisition as a Blacksmith. He's pretty chill and playful. Likes making stuff and also can sing.
Felicitas: Grey Warden
Iovita: Venatori agent
Naenia: Witch of the Wild. Don't have much on why they'd be involved in the Inquisition, but they're a bit secretive, keep to themselves sort, but otherwise friendly. Doesn't like killing though.
Fandom Muses
Fallout Muses:
Butch: Rogue from Redcliff that thought he was a big deal until the events of DAO, where he had to get better at, well, everything.
Charon: Former Templar [Heavily Burned], now Mercenary
Cass: Inquisition Merchant
Christine: Antivan Crow who offers services to Inquisition. She's mostly serious, but at some point during her jobs she had her tongue cut out so she can't talk and communicates in Sign and writing. Pretty badass though.
Deacon: Deacon is a former Templar who got dissillusioned after some intense violence and started helping mages escape even before the mage templar war began, and now he mostly spends his time protecting the rebel mages. He's playful, constantly cracking joes, but also lies a lot [and has a VERY DEEP guilt complex]
ED-E: Mabari.
Joshua Graham: Grey Warden who rejected the Calling [no one knows how]
Vulpes Inculta: Venatori Assassin/spy
Veronica:  Veronica was a Chantry Sister but wanted to do more good in the world more directly and wasn't good at healing, but she was a scrappy lil' shit and decided to start helping by protecting people instead. She's generally optimistic and friendly, but has some conflicted feelings on the Chantry.
Yes Man: Brow beaten Orlesian government official.
Cait: Former Templar Mercenary from Kirkwall [addicted to Lyrium]
Curie: Dalish Healer. Very very isolated until joining to help, so she's super niave. But a GREAT healer. Both magically and with mundane methods.
Maxson: Templar Leader [Very Anti-Mage]
Other Fandom Muses:
Aziraphale:  Ancient elf who sort of... Wanders and owns a book store in Orlais? He has a human counterpart who “officially” owns the store, but strangely you never see them in the same place.
Bishop: Mercenary. Did work for Tevinter. Can be recruited
Neeskha: Thief from Rivain
Qara: Volatile apostate, a bit mad with her freedom [never underwent her harrowing]
Solomon: Mage of Unknown Age/Origin. Exclusively works with spirits and demons.
