A brief analysis of color symbology in the important characters of Code Geass
Next, I'll discuss the symbology behind the color palettes of six major Code Geass characters. The purpose of this post will be to show how colors describe character traits. I clarify that I am not an illustrator or an animator. I'm just a quasi graduate who loves Code Geass and symbols and I want to use my knowledge to combine two things I like. And that I want you to take into account four points about the symbols and, therefore, the colors: The first is that they are polysemic. I'm going to adjust to the context of the series and the nature and role of the characters. Well, to give an example, violet is the color of sexuality and lust and I don't think that was what the animators had in mind when they established violet for Lelouch. The second is that they are ambivalent. They have two sides. One positive and one negative. The third is that the meanings of the colors vary depending on the cultures (and the times). I've tried to stick to universal meanings. And the fourth is that the symbols aren't isolated signs, they establish relationships between them and reinforce or annul meanings. Don't forget that there are colors that are born from the combination of two; so those resulting colors inherit certain meanings from their "parents", so to speak. Hence some of the connotations are repeated.
Tumblr media
Having said all that I had to say, let's start with Lelouch. Black is Lelouch's signature color. He always plays chess with black, his casual clothes are black, his army is the Black Knights, his Knightmares are black, the two great rebellions he has led have been dubbed the Black Rebellion, one of his nicknames is the Black Prince, his hair is black!
So what does black symbolize? Well, black is precisely the color of rebellion and protests. It symbolizes how illegal and forbidden are many of the acts that Lelouch carries out. It's also a symbol of elegance and youth. This is because most of the youngsters claim that black is his favorite color and don't be surprised by this, but Lelouch is a youngster.
Black is the color of dirt and evil. How many times has Lelouch dirty his hands with shit for carrying out his goals? Infinite times! "The world does not change with beautiful words", it changes with actions and many are dirty. How much evil did Lelouch do for the greater good? Phew! We could spend hours talking about it!
Black is the color of brutality, violence and hate. Three meanings that it has in common with red and these two colors make up a standard combination (it's no coincidence that one of the people closest to Lelouch and with whom he forms a powerful team has red as his distinctive color). Lelouch harbors hatred towards his father, his family and the empire that disowned him. Hence why he is so ruthless against Britannia. Unlike Suzaku, he believes that violence is the answer.
Black is the color of death, destruction and mourning. Lelouch brings death and destruction wherever he goes (to give a couple of examples, just think of the Battle of Narita and the Japan Administrative Zone massacre). In the same way, he always has mourning in his heart. He is reluctant to let go of loved ones who die (since the death of his mother).
Black usually has a negative connotation and whenever he is next to bright colors he will subvert the positive values of it. In association with yellow (which is a color present in Lelouch, albeit to a lesser extent), it connotes selfishness, guilt, and melancholy. Lelouch started his rebellion for selfish reasons and ended up consumed with guilt as he watched his revenge spiral dragging innocents and loved ones into harm. He is a character with a melancholic-choleric temperament.
[Black symbolizes bad luck and Lelouch never overthrew Britannia while he was wearing black, is that why he was always so close to landslide victory? :v]
Soon I will return to black to point out two specific aspects, now let's talk about Lelouch's second distinctive color: violet.
The combination of black and violet is one of the least negative and symbolizes magic and the dark forces of nature and magic. The Geass was a supernatural gift that Lelouch possesses. Violet is the color of vanity and extravagance. Zero was a striking character, partly because of his manner, partly because of his aura of mystery, and partly because of his looks (Lelouch is arrogant and proud, but there is a shade of difference between pride and vanity).
Tumblr media
Violet is the color of power. This is because extracting the violet pigment was difficult and therefore very expensive; so only the nobility and members of royalty could afford to buy clothes of this color. The fact that Lelouch has chosen purple as the color of his Zero costume seems funny to me because it means that he hasn't renounced his princely roots (the series itself wanted us to be clear about it and, for that reason, gave us the dialogue from the snow in episode 10 of the first season). He is and will remain a prince (in fact, his arrogance and negative outlook on vulnerability are a product of his upbringing in Britannia). Yellow reinforces this meaning.
It is the color of penance, martyrdom and mourning. Lelouch bears the weight of his sins and suffers as a result. Lelouch never quite gets past the dueling stage.
Violet is a singular color because it derives from the mixture of red and blue and these two colors represent opposite values. In violet these values are in communion. Hence, violet is considered an ambiguous color. In terms of morality, Violet is in the middle of good and evil, just like Lelouch, who is capable of doing good for the worst reasons and evil for the best reasons. This tells us about the amorality of the character. Violet combines the values of blue and red.
Blue is the color of coldness and intellectual qualities. Lelouch stands out for his intelligence, although the haters deny it. Red is the color of passions and Lelouch is a character moved by passions. He is very passionate, only he knows how to channel his emotions. Most of the time he is calm and he analyzes coolly, even in pressured situations. Only when his loved ones become involved does he lose control of his emotions and subservient to them.
In its negative aspect, violet symbolizes the abuse of power and who is distinguished by purple, besides Lelouch? His father who is a full-fledged tyrant.
Britannia is distinguished by the color white and white symbolizes the divine. It is the color of the gods and royalty, of absolutist monarchies, to be exact.
White as opposed to black symbolizes what we are all thinking: the eternal fight of good against evil. The angels are always attired in white robes and have white wings while the demons have black wings. Although the interesting thing about Code Geass is that it inverts those values since the Britannia (the whites) are the bad guys and the rebels (the blacks) are the good guys.
White recovers its positive values with Suzaku and Euphemia. Let's go with the second.
Tumblr media
White is the color that represents good. I had already said it. And it is, additionally, the color of integrity, honesty, transparency and purity. White shares all these connotations with blue. In fact, white and blue are the colors of spiritual virtues. Blue is the color of trust, friendship and sympathy. What does this tell us? That Suzaku is a boy with a noble and pure heart and a good friend.
White is the color of innocence and, curiously, blue is the color of the unreal, that is, of ideas that are far from being realized. It is the color of dreamers and fantasy! Is this a subtle sign that Suzaku is some poor self-deluded idealist? Maybe.
White symbolizes mourning (in oriental countries and don't be surprised by this fact either, but Suzaku is Japanese). Like Lelouch, Suzaku also has a hard time saying goodbye to loved ones who leave this earthly plane.
On the other hand, blue represents the calm, the passive and the introverted. It is the color of longing and peace. Suzaku longs for a world of peace. He tries to leave violence as a last resort, before opting for peaceful ways when dealing with conflicts.
Blue connotes sadness and loneliness. Suzaku is a melancholic and withdrawn type. Note that he doesn't tend to socialize. He is more comfortable closed in on himself, in his comfort zone. I remind you that when he entered Ashford Academy he didn't try to make friends and everyone teased him until he demonstrated his bravery by saving Lelouch from falling. He didn't try to bond with the rest of the Knights of Round either, rather, it seemed that Gino adopted him just like Anya [normally, extroverts adopt introverts]. As he drowns in his problems, he isolates himself more and more from the people who love him and the rest of the world.
Speaking of melancholy, he had mentioned that it symbolized the union of yellow with black. Yellow combined with white connotes weakness and fear. Suzaku's fear of the dark side of him. Deep down, he is just as pragmatic and selfish as Lelouch, but he is terrified to admit it. His weakness to accept his true self and his reality.
By the way, yellow, in its negative aspect, symbolizes lying and both Suzaku and Lelouch are skilled liars. It's a very contradictory and fickle color (it radically changes meaning when paired with another color) and Suzaku and Lelouch are full of contradictions. That is what makes them so human. Likewise, yellow is the color of traitors and Lelouch and Suzaku have betrayed their loyalties for different reasons.
Tumblr media
All the positive meanings of white that I highlighted in the previous slide with Suzaku apply to Euphemia, so I'll move on to talking about pink.
Pink is the color of charm, courtesy, sensitivity, delicacy, tenderness. In short, all the qualities considered typically feminine and that Euphemia possesses. I don't think I need to justify myself or provide examples.
Pink is the color of illusions and dreams and, in that sense, it reminds me of blue. Let's not forget that the dream of a peaceful world is inherited by Suzaku from Euphemia (she is an idealist at heart). Although she was aware of the evil that afflicted the Elevens and the grudge that Lelouch harbored in her heart, she was simplistic. We could say that Euphemia had a rosy vision of life (a good and insightful person, but a lousy politician without the necessary cunning and pragmatism). I reiterate that white is the color of innocence and pink is the result of mixing red (which is the color of love and Euphemia has plenty of love) and white.
Tumblr media
White is also the color of neutrality and if there is a neutral character in Code Geass is C.C.
Perceive that C.C. is the only member of the Black Knights who wears a white uniform which I had already said is the color of the enemy, which is weird, but makes sense (let's just say she's really only true to herself). She also has a black uniform with the Black Knights symbol on her chest. She adopts black because of her alignment with Lelouch, but it's not like she really takes a stand on the rebellion. She is there for personal reasons that are neglected in the political context.
Green is the other color that predominates in it. Green symbolizes balance and consciousness. Whenever Lelouch is about to collapse, C.C., who is the voice of reason, is there to bring him back to earth (she did better in the first season, let's be honest). Green is the color of intermediate and impartiality, par excellence. In itself it is neither good nor bad. As C.C.
Green is the color of youth and immaturity. Due to the Geass, C.C. has earned eternal youth and, at certain moments, she behaves like a carefree teenager who doesn't measure the consequences of her actions (yes, I mean the scenes of her in Ashford and her interactions with the Black Knights ). In contrast, yellow is the color of maturity and C.C.'s eyes are amber. So many years of experience have given him a few kilos of wisdom. For me, C.C. part of the archetype of the mystical Greek goddess Hestia, the one who is young and old at the same time.
Yellow is the color of security, confidence and tranquility. In her role as her confidante, C.C. has known how to bring these sensations to Lelouch.
Green is the color of otherness (the strange). What color do monsters, aliens, witches and demons paint? Green. C.C. is the only Code Geass character with green hair. She manages to stand out in the sea of characters because of her looks (she has to, she's a witch).
Green symbolizes freedom. Because of her immortality, C.C. feels prey to this existential plane. She is wandering aimlessly through the flow of time that seems endless. At the end of her journey, she manages to free herself from those ties and learns to feel good about herself, renewing her will to live. Let's not forget that, although she wanted to die, she needed to live first because she had not really lived her life. Green is also the color of life and bitterness. At first, she was frustrated. She did not fulfill her wish to be loved and was forced to live an immortal life that she did not want.
Tumblr media
Like C.C., Kallen takes on black after bonding with Zero; but it is indisputable that Kallen's color is red.
Red is the color of emotions and passions. Good and bad. Our face turns red with shame, anger, shyness, love (in fact, Kallen is the character who has blushed the most in the series for different reasons). It is the color of love and hate. Kallen loves her family, her friends, and Lelouch as much as she hates Britannia. She is the most emotional character in the series. I also think that she is the most impulsive and that's why: she gets carried away by her emotions.
Just as red has a natural alignment with black (Lelouch), she has a natural opposition with the passive soft blue and innocent white (Suzaku). Red symbolizes strength, courage and aggressiveness. Kallen's fighting style is aggressive, both in hand-to-hand combat and in a fight between Knightmares. Unlike Suzaku, she's not going to give you a chance to give up, she's going to kick your ass openly. She goes without saying that her two greatest virtues are her bravery and her strength (and I would add her poise).
Red is the color of fire and Kallen is a burning flame. If you approach sparingly, she keeps you warm. If you approach carelessly, you can get burned. She is warm and, at the same time, hot-tempered.
Red is the color of danger, violence and the forbidden. It is associated with the revolution. This reminds us of the meanings of black that we had reviewed with Lelouch. Kallen follows Lelouch and doesn't question him because they share his methods, his goals, and his beliefs. Do you see why black and red get along so well? Both are rebels by nature.
Red is the color of allure, and Kallen is the most sex-appealing girl at Ashford Academy. I'm not saying it, all the boys who wanted a kiss from her.
Red is the color of war and anger. Paradoxically, it is the color of freedom and justice, which are the two things that Kallen wants and demands for her people. Like white, red is a political color.
Kallen also wears pink (which results from the combination of red and white) and I think it brings out the softer, more youthful and sweet side of her.
Tumblr media
To finish, I leave you with this curious fact. Let's see how much of you have noticed…
Throughout the series, Lelouch and Suzaku wear black and white respectively (I'll open a parenthesis for clarification: only Zero's cape is black, but, if you look closely, in R1 his suit is a darker violet than in R2 and I It seems that the modification is in line with his change, since in R1 we have the meanest and most vile Lelouch and in R2 we have the most self-sacrificing and noble Lelouch). By the time the series is winding down, Lelouch and Suzaku are reversed and now Lelouch wears white, posing as the Emperor of Britannia, and Suzaku dresses in black, reaffirming himself as Knight of Zero.
What does this mean?
It means that Lelouch and Suzaku have exchanged targets.
Lelouch, who wanted to destroy Britannia, is going to change it from within as the Emperor himself.
Suzaku, who wanted to change Britannia, is going to liberate the world by destroying the tyrant who oppresses it as Zero.
All in favor of the same purpose: to build a friendly world and establish an era of peace. Everything was thrown in our faces through the symbology of color before the meaning of the Zero Requiem was revealed in the final episode and we didn't realize it. [In addition, I think it is also a way of externalizing the final transformation that these characters have experienced at the end of their inner journey].
Were the colors chosen randomly without any special motivation? No symbols in Code Geass? Ha ha ha! Look how the cows fly!
This is as far as this analysis ends. They let me know if they knew this information. I hope you liked it a lot. I invite you to tell me in comments what you think and what is your favorite color.
I have two (I can't decide): the black and the pink. [Nobody cares to know, but I'll leave it there].
We will be reading, God willing and if not, too. To hell!
Greetings and thanks for reading.

Lost Stories 2024 New Year's Event
I got 2024 New Year's Lelouch because, after watching the event, I suspected he might mention Rolo in his lines, and he does indeed! Lelouch: Tomorrow, Nunnally, Rolo, and I are planning to spend time together as siblings, just the three of us. It feels like a dream to be able to spend time peacefully like this... As you might guess, the story of the New Year's event (not voiced, so I'll post screenshots from here on) is in fact a dream that Mario/Maya has, where, among other things, Nunnally and Rolo are both siblings to Lelouch. Although Mario/Maya's brain didn't fix Rolo's antagonistic attitude towards him/her...
Tumblr media
Rolo (to Mario): You are inconveniencing others by standing in the middle of the path like this. How about being a little more considerate?
Tumblr media
Nunnally: Oh, Rolo, come on, speaking like that again... I always tell you you shouldn't do that.
Tumblr media
Rolo: But Nunnally, this guy is the one who... Like in every other instance where Rolo and Nunnally have interacted, they address each other without suffixes, so they seem to treat each other as equals rather than one of them clearly being the older sibling. Also, Rolo referred to Mario as "koitsu", which is openly disrespectful, especially since Mario is older... The reason Mario is standing there dumbfounded is that he still hasn't realized that he's dreaming. He is confused after seeing Britannians and the Black Knights working together, and also when he meets Rolo and Nunnally with one another:
Tumblr media
Lelouch: Mm? They are my little sister and my little brother. Isn't it obvious for them to be together? Mario: Your little sister and little brother... I guess there's nothing wrong, right... Why did I think it was strange...? Sorry for saying something weird all of a sudden...
Tumblr media
Nunnally: Fufu, you're an odd one, Mario-san. (TN: Uses my username rather than Mario)
Tumblr media
Rolo: He was already odd before... Lelouch: Hahaha, you're being called out, Mario. Mario: Ahaha... You got me. Then Mario wants to understand what's going on with some new event at Ashford, but the bell indicates that they need to go to class.
Tumblr media
Lelouch (to Mario): I'll explain later. Rolo, take Nunnally to the classroom.
Tumblr media
Rolo: Yeah, got it, Brother. Let's go, Nunnally.
Tumblr media
Nunnally: Yes, please, Rolo. Brother, Mario-san, see you later.
Tumblr media
Lelouch: Yeah. See you later, you two. After this scene, the characters teach Mario about the event. It seems that there's going to be a competition to decide the future of Ashford Academy. And there are three teams, each with different members and intentions for the kind of school life Ashford Academy should promote: ・Suzaku's WHITE team (Suzaku, Nunnally, Savitri, Anya, Schnee): "Disciplined school life with a focus on morals" ・Kallen's CRIMSOM team (Kallen, Rivalz, Benio, Gino, Shirley): "Energetic school life with a focus on passion" ・Lelouch's BLACK team (Lelouch, Rolo, Ledo, Milly, Nina,): "A free school life with a focus on individuality"
They will play different games, and Mario will join a different team each round. The first round is a karuta game where you need to guess a country after hearing a hint. At first, it seems like Nunnally's team will win (but Kallen's, the team Mario is part of this round, does):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rolo: They are strong, huh? Nunnally and the others.
Lelouch: As expected of my little sister. To think that she would remember all the kaminoku... (TN: A karuta term) The next game is hagoita doubles, which is more or less similar to badminton, and where Suzaku's physical strength makes his team win (Mario was also part of the winning team this time). Rolo has to make his snarky comment against Suzaku too:
Tumblr media
Ledo: One more point and it will be match point. What could we do?
Rolo: There's no point in asking. Nothing can be done against that monster. So they apologize to Lelouch for losing, but he understands the situation:
Tumblr media
Ledo: My apologies. We couldn't win against Lord Kururugi after all.
Tumblr media
Rolo: Sorry, brother.
Tumblr media
Lelouch: It can't be helped. Kallen is about the only one who could compete head to head against Suzaku. The next game is about flying kites, and Lelouch asks Mario, who is on his team now, to control the kite.
Tumblr media
Lelouch: So I leave the 3rd event, High Altitude Kite Battle, to you.
Mario: But I'm lost… What even is that? The "High Altitude Something"…
Tumblr media
Rolo: It's the High Altitude Kite Battle. You don't even know something like that?
Mario: I don't think you'd usually know, though... Milly and Ledo explain that the objective is to cut the opponent's kite string.
Tumblr media
Mario: Ah, so it's fighting kites. (TN: "Kenkadako," which is an exist word, unlike the fancy term Lelouch used)
Tumblr media
Rolo: No. It's High Altitude Kite Battle.
Tumblr media
Mario: Why is Rolo so fixated on such a strange thing... A-anyway, in a nutshell, I have to win at the fighting kites, right? I think Rolo is being pedantic about the term just to go against Mario or maybe to defend the term Lelouch used. Maybe he's jealous because Lelouch entrusted the game to Mario? The dialogues don't point the reason out explicitly, though! By the way, it's mentioned that Milly drew the design of the kite, which is Zero's mask, and Rolo says "I also helped paint it".
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Well, since Mario wins, there's yet another tiebreaker round which involves KMFs and where everyone ends up having to work together, until Mario wakes up from the dream. I don't think the rest of Rolo's lines are all that interesting, so I'll stop the translation here. You can probably find videos of the whole event if you search for its name: 三色志開幕!~新しい朝に願いを新たに~
As I mentioned last time, Turns 12&13 should arrive in a couple weeks, and I assume that, afterwards, together with Turns 14&15, it will be the moment to release a new Rolo alt with his plugsuit version (other characters have their plugsuit version as separate units too). Hope my sakuradite is enough for then...

Hey 🤗
Before making the request, I wanted to tell you I really like how and what you write ❤️
I saw the scenario of the first kiss you did for Naruto characters, could you also do it for Lelouch, Suzaku, male Kallen and male Cornelia (I'm obsessed with them in the male version; if you don't mess with characters' genderbends, you can not do them), please?
Thank you very much 😘
Code Geass ~First kiss~
Manga/anime: Code Geass
Warnings: nothing
(Y/N): your name
Kal: male Kallen
Cornelius: male Cornelia
Thank you very much for the compliment! Yes, I can make stories with male versions of female characters, but I'd rather not do the opposite.
Tumblr media
"Z-Zero?" A meek voice rings out in the temporary headquarters of the Black Knights.
Lelouch blinks from behind his mask and looks away from some documents to look at the voice that had called him. (Y/N) was there, playing with her hair and with her pink-tinged cheeks, avoiding eye contact with her leader. The boy lets out a small sigh behind his mask, annoyed at being disturbed.
"What happens?" (Y/N) flinches at his words and shifts uncomfortably, the pink turning red on her cheeks.
"W-well, Tamaki told me you wanted to talk to me about the plan..." Lelouch's purple eyes narrow: he had never told Tamaki to call her. Damn Tamaki, he did it to embarrass him, the boy thinks.
The leader is both frustrated by the interruption of his work and annoyed by Tamaki's prank, but he suppresses the urge to get angry to avoid scaring the already intimidated girl in front of him. Actually, not because he doesn't want to scare the girl, but because he doesn't want to scare (Y/N): ever since Lelouch met (Y/N) at school a few months before obtaining the Geass, he's always felt a very strong attraction towards her; then, that attraction turned into love.
Furthermore, when she showed up in front of Zero, saying she wanted to join the Black Knights, his first instinct was to forbid her from participating in the missions due to the fear she would get hurt. However, the boy was then dissuaded from carrying out that behavior by C.C. to avoid anyone noticing his preference for the girl.
So, Lelouch quickly thinks about how to extricate himself from the complicated situation he's in: "(Y/N), I-"
He can't even finish the sentence he was about to say, because a loud sound screeches in their ears, echoing in the room occupied by Zero and (Y/N). The girl is stunned and closes her eyes, preparing for the worst, when they feel the ground shake and pieces of the ceiling begin to collapse. When she doesn't feel any pain, she opens her eyes.
"Z-Zero? A-are you okay? A-are you hurt?" One of Lelouch's arms is against the wall next to (Y/N); the other arm holds her close, caging her body with his and acting as a shield.
"I'm fine." The boy pulls away from the girl, loosening his grip.
After standing a little distance from her, Zero calmly presses a button on the side of his mask with one hand, shocking and astounding (Y/N) when she hears the whirring of gears, causing the back of the mask to retract.
"Z-Zero, what are you-"
"Answer me, (Y/N) -he interrupts her- are a few months enough to fall in love?"
"I-I think anything is possible in love. Why did you ask me this?"
(Y/N) swallows, watching the boy adjust his mask so his mouth is visible.
"Because I'm madly in love with you." The girl doesn't even have time to realize what he said, before Lelouch grabs her face and brings it close to his, and presses his lips to hers.
Tumblr media
"Suzaku, I'm scared" (Y/N) whispers.
While she and her brother Schneizel were in a meeting, an attack by the Black Knights was reported, so Suzaku, (Y/N)'s Knight, grabbed her hand and started running to carry her to safety.
After they moved away from the attacked area, the princess felt the pressure collapse on her; she burst into tears, both because of the fear for her life and because of the concern everyone had managed to escape to safety.
The girl feels strong arms around her and then herself being carried against a warm body. Her eyes open: she sees her Knight embracing her.
"I'll protect you, princess." Suzaku says softly in (Y/N)'s ear, holding her tighter to him.
"S-Suzaku..." The princess murmurs in surprise, looking at him shyly and sweetly, heat flooding her cheeks.
Suddenly, loud battle noises ring out and the sounds of explosions, which cause the ground to shake, almost causing the princess to fall, are heard. Suzaku's eyes widen a little, and he immediately turns, almost as if to go back.
"Where are you going?" She cries.
"I must go back to fight with 'Lancelot'. Please, princess, stay here, so you'll be far enough from the combat zone."
"But Suzaku, you have to follow me -she whispers- I'm scared."
"Princess -the boy approaches the girl, with his eyes full of pain- I have to fight again to protect you." (Y/N) knows Suzaku must respect his duties as a Knight.
"But... You can't protect me if you're there." The girl says, trying to convince the boy to stay with her, since she doesn't want him to go because she fears he might die.
"I have to go -Suzaku replies with regret- those from the R&D Division have already called me before: they need 'Lancelot'."
"Wait!" (Y/N) screams as her Knight turns and takes a few steps towards the headquarters Zero attacked, running to hug him from behind and starting to sob.
"Please, please, don't go! I already lost Euphy, don't leave me too!" The princess can't breathe because of the tears and sobs, and she's crying so much she can hardly stand up straight: she's in the middle of hysterics.
So, Suzaku immediately hugs (Y/N), first hesitantly, fearing her panic attack might get worse, then more tightly, after seeing she showed no sign of resistance and, indeed, she seemed to calm down the closer he was to her.
"I'll never leave: I'll always stay next to you and protect you."
Minutes pass, and (Y/N) slowly calms down, cradled in her Knight's arms and soothed by his sweet, relaxing words.
"Hold out your hand." Suzaku says, placing a watch on his princess' outstretched hand, and he continues: "This watch is very important to me: it's the last gift my father gave me. Keep it safe for me -he gently closes her hand- and, when we meet again, you can return it to me. I swear I'll come back to you."
After saying that, the boy starts to turn around, but the girl calls his name, so he turns back again to look at her.
"Princess?"
"I love you, Suzaku! Please, come back." After saying those words, which shocked him, (Y/N) looks at her Knight softly, and she gently presses her lips to his.
Tumblr media
Britannian Military Prison in Japan, evening.
After another day of torture, (Y/N) is in her cell, hurt, sore and crying in pain.
Unfortunately, the Britannian Military had discovered the girl was one of the Black Knights' girlfriend, so it had captured her and has continued to torture her to have information about them. However, it was wrong: (Y/N) didn't even know her boyfriend Kal was one of the Black Knights.
While the girl was reflecting on her boyfriend, a very loud noise is heard and the ground begins to shake, and her cell's door is thrown open. That scares her a lot, so she tries to hide herself in the most remote corner of her cell. Nevertheless, it isn't a soldier who enters, but a tall man, dressed in black and with a mask on his face: he's one of the Black Knights.
"(Y/N)!" The girl recognizes the man by his voice.
"Ohgi? It's you?"
(Y/N) already knows Ohgi: he had come to Kal's house several times while they were together; her boyfriend said he was a friend of his brother and, after his death, he continued to come to visit him. The girl never would have thought that kind man was one of the Black Knights.
"Yes, it's me. (Y/N), are you ok? Kal was so anxious about you... Come, he's waiting for you outside." Ohgi holds out his hand towards her, but (Y/N) pulls away.
"I don't want!"
"Why?"
"I don't want to see Kal: he lied to me the whole time! I don't want to go back to him! Please come back. I don't want you to get hurt because of me."
The man looks at the girl for a few seconds, torn between whether to leave or try to convince her to follow him. However, before Ohgi can make a decision, sounds of footsteps are heard, and then a head pops out of the door: Kal.
"(Y/N)!" Kal rushes to embrace (Y/N), wrapping his arms around her waist and burying his face in the crook of her neck. Nevertheless, she doesn't feel good in his embrace like all the other times: his lie has hurt her too deeply. In fact, she violently and quickly breaks away from the embrace.
"Stay away from me!" The poor girl screams, quickly pulling away and falling to the ground from the force she broke away with.
"Darling?" The boy tries to move closer to his girlfriend, but she pulls away again, trembling and almost crying from the pressure and worry.
"What happens? Are you ok? What have they done?"
"The soldiers hurt me, but you hurt me more: why did you lie to me? You were taking advantage of me, weren't you? I'm a Britannian, were you pretending to love me just to get information about the Britannians?"
"No!" Kal exclaims.
"I swear to you: I've never taken advantage of you. When I fell in love with you, I wasn't one of the Black Knights yet; after I became one, I didn't want to tell you anything because I didn't want to worry you or put you in danger." He continues more calmly, gently helping the girl to get up.
"You don't necessarily have to continue to be my girlfriend, but at least let me continue to protect you, please. I don't want anything to happen to you again." After saying that, Kal hugs (Y/N) again, taking care not to hurt her, and he brings his face closer to hers, until they touch their foreheads.
"Will you let me protect you?" After she gives her nod, the Black Knight captures his girlfriend's lips with his in a tender kiss, while continuing to hold her tightly, as if protecting her from all harm.
Tumblr media
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be."
"Sorry." (Y/N) repeats, as she finishes treating Cornelius' many wounds.
"I already told you not to be." The prince replies.
They both remain silent for a few minutes. (Y/N) is embarrassed to be so close to the person she loves, Cornelius is trying to repress the groans of pain caused by his wounds.
"Are you angry?" The woman breaks the silence, worried her superior was angry with her. In fact, (Y/N) was a new Knightmare Frames pilot, but, during her first mission, an attack against the Japan Liberation Front, a disaster happened: the group led by Prince Cornelius, in which she had been placed, was the victim of a surprise assault, and (Y/N) would have died if it weren't for her commander, who threw himself into the path of a spear to save her, but injuring himself.
"Not with you." The prince answers.
"Why not with me?"
"Why should I be angry with you?"
"I was careless. I almost got myself killed. Because of me you got hurt!" The soldier screams with a broken voice, surprising Cornelius with her outburst.
The man, recovered from the shock of the woman's outburst, smiles almost sweetly, and he gently caresses her head.
"Don't worry. I don't care you cause me trouble or I hurt myself to save your life."
(Y/N) wonders if what Cornelius told her was some kind of confession, while blushing profusely. Nevertheless, despite wanting to ask him the meaning of those words, she can't say anything other than an apology.
"Stop apologizing or I'll get angry."
"Excu-" (Y/N) stops before finishing the sentence.
"I can't help saying that!" Due to her phrase, the prince bursts out laughing, making the soldier blush again.
"I've done it!" The woman exclaimes happily and, after seeing the man's confused look, she continues, but with a bit of shyness: "Since you're always so serious and, forgive me if I say it, even a little sad, I set myself the goal of making you laugh at least once."
After a few seconds of silence, Cornelius murmurs: "You're wonderful, (Y/N), you know?"
"Really? Are you serious?"
Without even realizing it, the soldier steps closer to her superior, taking his right hand in hers.
"I really mean it." The prince whispers, tucking a strand of her hair, which had escaped from her bun, behind her ears with the hand that wasn't held by hers.
"I think this is why I fell in love with you." Without giving (Y/N) time to realize his words, Cornelius bows his head and presses his lips softly and delicately to hers.

What I Believe Is The Answer To Solving The Problems Of Code Geass. Spoiler Warning!
Let me first clarify that I'm not talking about personal issues that fans have with Code Geass, like the Black Knights betraying Lelouch. Those are not the problems I'm referring to. I'm referring to the problems of the world in which Code Geass takes place.
What is the answer to how broken characters like Lelouch and Suzaku are? What is the answer to healing a world constantly at war (not helped because of Britannia and its rule of Social Darwinism)? I think the answer is simple, yet so hard to truly understand.
Cheesy and corny as you might think, the answer is this: Love.
By which I mean truly unconditional love. And which characters represent this kind of love so perfectly? Those characters are Shirley Fenette and Euphemia li Britannia. Both of these girls demonstrate how incredibly loving and compassionate they are.
It is Euphemia who encourages Suzaku to keep living, because she loves him (and after her declaration, he is able to come to terms with his feelings for her and realizes he loves her too). It is Euphemia who wishes to bring Lelouch and Nunnally back together in her life with her well-intentioned Special Administrative Zone plan, which would also give Suzaku and Japan their rights back. And she's willing to give up her status as princess to do so, since she wants to be equals with Suzaku. She even manages to convince Lelouch to stand down and go along with her plan, and Lelouch admits that Euphemia is his most formidable enemy. Not Clovis, not Cornelia, not Schneizel, not V.V., not even Emperor Charles zi Britannia and Empress Marianne vi Britannia. No, this honor goes to Euphemia.
As for Shirley, it is she who comes to terms with Lelouch's secret life as Zero. It is Shirley who encourages Suzaku to forgive Lelouch for his misdeeds, just as she has forgiven him for accidentally killing her father and seeing how lonely Lelouch is. She is also lonely, as she's the only student at Ashford Academy who, thanks to Jeremiah Gottwald's Geass Canceler, has an idea of the truth going on, and immediately takes action when she knows something isn't right. The fact that, at that point in time, Nunnally is suddenly the Viceroy of Japan when she knows that simply can't be right allows her to empathize with how lonely Lelouch is in a world full of lies, and why she declares that she wants to be someone he can be honest with. This love she demonstrates shows that, if she had lived, the Zero Requiem would have been unnecessary.
And it is because of Euphemia's death that Suzaku spirals further and further into madness, not helped by the fact that Lelouch is Zero, and the fact that Lelouch is leading a rebellion against Britannia much like how his own father, Genbu, wanted to fight Britannia even when there was no hope of victory. Many of his actions against Lelouch are both to uphold his view that Britannia can be changed from within, like Euphemia was about to do had she not been accidentally subjected to Lelouch's Geass at the exact worst possible moment with the worst possible command. It is also out of spite, as he believes Lelouch is compromising any hope of peace between Japan and Britannia out of spite. Not helped by how Lelouch callously blames the deaths of the SAZ on Euphemia to rally the Black Knights in further rebellion, and by how he lies to Suzaku's face about how "horrible" Euphemia is. This foreshadows how the Zero Requiem will happen at the end, as Lelouch constantly makes himself the worst possible person for people to hate him, because, like Suzaku, he is full of self-hatred, especially after killing Euphemia to stop the massacre he unwittingly started.
As for Shirley, had she lived, there was hope for Lelouch and Suzaku to at the very least manage a bittersweet ending to their lives while keeping world peace, like they do in completing the Zero Requiem. When she dies, Lelouch loses any hope of a happy ending, and his life from Ashford Academy is permanently closed off, and his friendship with Suzaku is further strained. Her death starts a domino effect of pain and suffering for Lelouch and Suzaku, which (literally) explodes with the F.L.E.I.J.A. nuke, directly caused by Suzaku's "Live!" Geass, and indirectly caused by Lelouch placing that Geass on Suzaku in the first place.
When they both think Nunnally is caught in the explosion, only then does their relationship finally start to heal, as they come together to bring down both Emperor Charles and Schneizel to bring about the peace they want for Nunnally and the world. But any hope for Lelouch and Suzaku to have a happy ending for themselves is gone, because the girls who loved them unconditionally, Shirley and Euphemia, are gone. In completing the Zero Requiem, Euphemia's "sins" are taken away by Lelouch as he makes himself the Demon Emperor, and Suzaku runs him through as Zero. Lelouch's punishment is to die as the most hated man in human history, and Suzaku's punishment is to live while desperately craving death. Their acceptance of their fates as penance for their sins, and their sincere desires for mankind to move into the future with happiness, is made possible only by the love that Shirley and Euphemia freely give to them. That love is then passed on to Lelouch and Suzaku, who, in completing the Zero Requiem, share that boundless love for mankind to finally be free from war and move into the future with (hopefully) unending peace.

Your arts are amazing! I'm looking forward your new arts of geass and titans.
What do you think about relationship of Suzaku and Lelouch before Zero Requiem? Аfter all the events. And do you have some headcanons about the unholy trinity in emperor period of time? ;) Maybe cute, funny or glass moments?
Oh, thank you so much! This means a lot, considering I’m a big fan of your art as well! I love your artstyle and am occasionally checking how if there’s something new.
About the boys, there’s just so much to unpack. Might be an obvious analysis, but I think a lot of the conflict comes from the way Suzaku projects his own self hatred from killing his father on Lelouch due to his methods. He cannot deal with what he done so he rejects everything Zero, and thus Lelouch, is. Other factors like Euphemia and the “live” geass pile up and complicate the problem. He can’t let go of his attachment to the Lelouch he used to know tho, which almost makes me believe he alienated past lelouch from present lelouch.
Lelouch, on the other hand, is always trying to close this gap between them and bring Suzaku back to him, even after he swears for the millionth time that Suzaku is no longer his friend. There is a lot of people that Lelouch cares about, and he was eventually ready to lose a lot of them, but never Suzaku (as C.C points out quite a few times).
SO…after the events in the world of C, Suzaku, in some level, comes to terms with living in this reality (since they all choose the future together), instead of some made up ideal one. In that moment of acceptance of the events that led him there, he also accepts Lelouch and once again comes to recognize him fully (instead of separating sides of him). Lelouch can also get a better grasp on the flaw of his ways for trying to force his wishes on others and recognizes his selfishness, agreeing with Suzaku.
In summary, I believe that this moment allows them to reconnect, and although they still have a bag full of issues to work on, they are once again able to be sincere with each other and show their true selves (even if not always communicating it verbally). I am ship biased, but I like to think that they started this new phase very rigid and unsure, but eventually development some sort of romantic relationship. Suzaku would have somewhat of a tough time figuring out what role C.C plays in Lelouch’s life and how he feels about it, but would come to understand it and adapt himself into this dynamic. Lelouch is the hugest simp and is rather happy with how things settled ( with added angst knowing it has an expiration date).
Lord, that was a lot. Since I already made a whole essay I will try to be brief about my headcanons abt THOSE MONTHS.
I have thousands of them, so I will just mention a few.
1- Whenever he can, Lelouch cooks. He would have it served to cc and suzaku in his private chambers (If his room in the Black Knights ship was big enough to have a whole library, I’m sure that the imperial chambers are equipped with at least one nice table). Not only fancy dinners, but simple things like breakfast and tea.
2- Unlike C.C, Suzaku has his own room (he often needs his own space), but that doesn’t mean he sleeps there every night 👀
3- Suzaku and C.C bonded over annoying Lelouch and picking up on his dramatic mannerisms. They don’t initially have any beyond-platonic interaction, but once they decide to kiss in front of the others, thinking that it would annoy Lelouch, but to everyone’s surprise he just goes 😳😳😳
4- The three of them spend a lot of time in the gardens (as previously shown in official art), laying on the grass or just sitting nearby a lake. Those are the most blissful moments for Lelouch, but they always bring him a sting of pain because they remind him what he is giving up.
5- About the empress dress, C.C wears it sometimes, unlike shown in the anime, but she’s picky about comfort, so she mostly settle’s back to the white undergarments/straight jacket, much to Lelouch’s displeasure.
I will have to stop here since this is already unbelievably long, but I’m always open to talk about this and I would love to hear your own takes on these topics!!! Feel free to always hit me up on my dm’s, if you want.

You just made me realize how I am still in the same fucking boat but with a different coat of paint. Suzaku and Dimitri are similar just like Edelgard and Lelouch. Like before, I'm still on the side of the character that gets a lot of misunderstanding and hate (Suzaku, Dimitri) because the edgier one is more popular. I can't believe it.
-snort-... sorry bout that. but yeah, their is a lot of overlap there, though i would note theres some important differences between them. namely that unlike edelgard and dimitri where one, dimitri, just definitively has the more heroic qualities and narrative function over the other, lelouch and suzaku are a lot more of a 'gray area' as the kids like to say these days by design. and thats because lelouch and suzaku are actual foils to each other, built from the ground up to compare and contrast in every aspect.
Lelouch is intellectual but physically weak, suzaku is physically adept but not intellectual [which is not to say hes dumb, just that hes not 'class smart' as it were]. lelouch is represented primarily by the colour black, black chess pieces, black knights, zero. suzaku is represented primarily by the colour white, white knightmare frame, white pilot suit, white devil. lelouch is reactive, prefers bold action well paradoxically hiding behind a mask, someone who believes the ends always justify the means. suzaku is proactive, prefers moderation despite the seeming inaction of adhering to that moderation, someone who believes the means always justify the ends. they are opposite ends effectively, and because lelouch and suzaku are both extremes the story stresses how when they're apart and especially when they're competing is when they are at their most self destructive and self sabotaging. but thats also because the story makes sure to stress that the two of them are equals in the narrative effectively, equally good and equally awful.
lelouch has his noble ideals but hes an awful bastard in his methods who only ever starts to feel regret or guilt over them when personally confronted with the consequences, and even then those consequences have to be directly framed in a manner of hurting someone he loves or cares for. see lelouch burying britannian soldiers and part of a city alive under mountain rubble to secure dubious strategic edges in a battle he lost anyways, and only really starting to feel guilty or bad over it when it turned out he accidentally buried Shirley's dad alive.
conversely suzaku is much more amical to people and conscious about his actions and making sure people dont die, buuut hes also rather aimless in what hes actually trying to do because a lot of his own idealism is coached in suicidal guilt which only intensifies with every mistake he makes and every tragedy that enters his life. someone mentioned it to me and i think its a good way to describe suzaku but hes effectively 'the conflict of shinto aesthetic against bushido spirit' personified. he kills his dad as a kid to prevent his dad from dragging the country into a death spiral defiantly fighting a war it cant win, and then spends the rest of his life looking for a place to die, especially in battle, because of the dishonor he perceives himself committing. he both greatly values and cherishes all life, well having no regard for his own. which is also why he gets sooo god damn depressed about seemingly being unable to die in r2 and why his seeming solution to the clear injustices side 11/japanese people face in code geass is to be the 'model citizen' and hope that changes peoples opinions well rigorously adhering to authority and order.
that went on longer then i thought and its very rambley and unedited/off the cuff.
but to drag that back to fire emblem, as i said theres an important difference to edelgard and dimitri that makes a comparison between them and lelouch and suzaku not as salient as it might be outside of a general comparison of how fandom often reacts to characters. namely that the two just... arent written as foils to each other, or atleast failed to be properly conveyed as foils to each other. And honestly i would put that at the fact that theres not really much actually going on there behind the curtain with edelgard as a character, which is why none of her relationships to other characters really seem to have substantive weight or gravitas to them.
like, why does she believe in a darwinist philosophy? how does that actually relate to her history or trauma? that she dislikes crests makes sense in relation to her trauma, but then why does she spend so much of her ire towards the central church when they had nothing to do with her trauma? well that would seemingly relate back to her darwinist philosophy... but why does she have that philosophy? its recursive and self feeding seemingly by accident because the game never comments on it [and i imagine if it did it would be very unflattering for her in the sense of 'because i survived and became stronger from the experiments people should pull themselves up by their bootstraps'].
and ya cant have a foil if one of your characters might as well be a paper cut out contrasting against a fully realized well rounded character.

Some of Okouchi and Taniguchi's words about Kallen and Lelouch during the airing of Code Geass
Tumblr media
Animedia Magazine July 2008 did an interview about bonds between characters, with Taniguchi toward the China Arc :
Bond with C.C., bond with Nunnally, bond with Suzaku: nothing new. Bond with Shirley: Their friendship bond seems to be changing? She will have her chance to shine after Turn 11 ! Bond with Kallen: According to the director, she is an essential character. She will be captured by Suzaku in the China Arc. Check it out. Bond with Schneizel: Nothing. Only Schneizel saying "what about me?"
Translation by Koshimizu While this one doesn't tell much, that's where we got the fact Taniguchi considered Kallen an essential character, and since it was mentionned in an interview about her bond with Lelouch, you can even say she was meant to be an essential character due to her relationship to Lelouch.
Tumblr media
From Newtype, August 2008 Kouzuki Kallen - The Warrior That Continues Believing in Zero. From Terrorists To The Black Knights Trusting in Zero? or Lelouch? Live As A Japanese Meeting Nunnally and Suzaku Again Versus Knight of Rounds Luciano Back in Battlefield!
Ōkouchi: Lelouch and Kallen's relationship changes after she knows Zero's identity. Fukuyama: Well, honestly, to Lelouch, I don't think Kallen will become a love interest. *laughs* Kallen is the type that doesn't worry too much. She stands up and acts right away. When she needs an answer she asks away. I think she's a totally different type from Lelouch. Ōkouchi: Well, Lelouch is the type that worries too much. *laughs* Kallen also has two roles, Stadtfeld of Britannia and Kozuki of Japan, which she played separately in an awkward way. While Lelouch is using lies to play the role of Zero and a student separately, she's not lying in either of them. Fukuyama: Like what Kallen said in season 1, "this character setting is so wrong for me!" (in Stage 3) *laughs* Note from the translator: Don't jump to conclusions. ;) A VA's opinion doesn't affect the story's direction. Kallen's VA also picks on Zero/Fukuyama a lot off-screen. (Ōkouchi, however, is the storywriter. His opinions do matter. And it looks like he was going to say something before getting shot down. XD) Translation by Koshimizu This interview is actually pretty telling, because while Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu (Lelouch and Kallen's seiyuu) both played through the airing of the show as people who didn't ship Kallen and Lelouch (because of their playful relationship, they played a lot of role together and have a very banter/teasing kind of relationship because of that), Okouchi, writer of the show, on the other hand, tried to advocate for them in this interview (it's much clearer in japanese, that's why the translator said he tried to say something before Fukuyama countered him); He also talks about their differences and similarities while not using those to counter the possibilty of the ship so that was actually a pretty positive interview for them.
Thanks to @codegeassfacts for the interview and allowing me to post it, I had some elements but a lot were missing, if you like Geass, don't forget to check out his blog, it's filled with information about the anime, a sort of alibaba cavern !

Random Rolo Ramblings 4: Worst Staffing Choice Ever!
In @rolotouto’s latest post the question was brought up why Lelouch chose Rolo of all people to “rescue” Nunnally (as plays out in Turn 18: Final Battle Tokyo II). I would like to give my tuppence on this issue after pondering it a little (mostly from memory) and hope other people will add theirs. I apologise for being a bit repetitive, I already wrote some of the following before, in slightly different words, but since this came up again, I’ll jump on the occasion.
First of all, Rolo is of course pretty suited for the job, there is his Geass, he probably has some fighting skills (even though he does not really need them), at least he knows how to use a gun. He is also a capable pilot, which comes in particularly handy for this mission.
Then there is the fact that he his very loyal to Lelouch. The latter may even be convinced that his authority and his sway over Rolo are enough to ensure that Rolo will do as he is told. It may even be possible (but I am really not sure about that) that Lelouch simply underestimates Rolo’s fear of Nunnally’s return or cannot even be bothered to consider his feelings. Besides, Sayoko has also been assigned to this mission, so maybe Lelouch thinks her presence is enough of a safeguard. (He could not be more mistaken.)
And finally, speaking of Sayoko, we have to realise that Lelouch did not have  many options. Rolo and Sayoko are more or less the only ones that are loyal to Lelouch, not Zero (apart from Jeremiah, who is busy fighting Suzaku , C.C. is incapacitated at this point). The Black Knights think this mission is about rescuing Kallen and maybe kidnapping, sorry, arresting the Governor General. (In fact, they are only just learning about Lelouch’s true identity and Asahina even wants to go in and arrest Rolo).
All in all, Lelouch’s choice is at least understandable, albeit ill advised. Or is it? Probably yes, but it is still interesting to notice that, like Lelouch, who professes that he wants to kill Rolo, but never does (”I keep missing my chance!” Really?!), Rolo seems to be stalling. Why does he not kill Nunnally on the spot and gets a KnightMare Frame first to “escort” the escape craft? Does he want to avoid a confrontation with Sayoko? She could not really stop him. Or does he think it looks more inconspicuous if the craft gets “mysteriously” destroyed in the fray by an “enemy” KMF?
Or is he, at least subconsciously, afraid of Lelouch’s reaction to Nunnally’s death? When he believes that Nunnally was killed by the F.L.E.J.A. and a shaken Lelouch calls him, he understands Lelouch’s condition and at least tries to break the news to him as gently as possible (”Nunnally was inside of that light...”), before telling him directly when Lelouch refuses to catch his drift. Could he not also have anticipated this reaction in the case of him killing Nunnally? At least he should have.
Opinions?

HERE IS WHY SHIRLULU IS A LEGITIMATE SHIP -PART 2
Warning: I'm not a writer and English is not my native language. So kindly bare or DM me about it. Criticism is welcomed not hate.
Continuation Of Part 1
LELOUCH BEING BOYFRIEND CODED -
1. Lelouch's protectiveness for Shirley -
Being protective of someone is one of the one key traits of being in love.
From what I have noticed ( with rewatch), Lelouch's protectiveness for Shirley is like a second nature, like reflex action.
Here are the instances :
R1 stage 14
From the moment he realized that there was another person who knew his identity (which he had forgotten due to Shirley), instead of worrying about himself, he worried about what might have happened to Shirley, and the thought alone stresses him. He had to force himself to calm down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lelouch then meets Mao, a powerful Geass user who could read minds. Mao clearly has advantage while Lelouch is unprepared which puts Lelouch in danger but all he could think about was Shirley.
The anger and stress is clear on his face ( also in his voice)
Tumblr media
R2 stage 13 -
Lelouch jumped after Shirley to save her.
Sure, he trusted Suzaku to help them, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of Lelouch falling to death along with Shirley.
Lelouch must be aware of the risk, he was also aware that he cannot afford to die when is in the middle of an important mission and he has huge social responsibility. Despite that he still jumped. This shows how protective he is about Shirley.
P.S - Lelouch has been shown as a weak athlete with no stamina or strength, and a guy like that was able to hold on to Shirley not to mention she is struggling in his grip. This scene surprised me. (lol)
Tumblr media
the reason why Lelouch let Shirley go with Suzaku, was not because both would get suspicious of his identity, not because they could interfere with his plan, but for Shirley's safety.
By the looks of it Lelouch doesn't want Shirley to be with Suzaku. I wouldn't call it jealousy but he was afraid if Suzaku would take Shirley way like he did with Nunnally.
Tumblr media
R2 Stage 03
When Lelouch had planned to save black knights from execution. He planned in such a way that Shirley won't have to face any problem. Even among all the chaos, he didn't forget to think about her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
R2 stage 12
Lelouch instinctively protected Shirley.
Tumblr media
R1 Stage 21
Kallen had pushed the pile of steel planks (assuming) to distract everyone from Oghi, and it was about to fall on Shirley, and she was rooted on her spot. Lelouch rushed to help her, but Kallen eventually protected her.(Not a proper Shirlulu moment but everything counts)
Tumblr media
Lelouch, who always wanted to keep Shirley safe and to see her dying in front of his eyes must have been something truly traumatic.

Talking a bit about Kallen's story arc
I came across a comment on Reddit not long ago (in case you don't know, it's a nest of C.C. fanboys) saying that Kallen was overrated since she had nothing beyond her relationship with Lelouch and the episode with her mom. It is not the first time I have read an opinion like that, although, fortunately, it is not very frequent.
Actually, Kallen does have a character arc. It's just that it's developed in a very subtle way. And by that I mean that I didn't realize what it was the second or third time I watched Code Geass, but much later. This is because the series doesn't tell you directly, they show it to you. I understood it better after reading Kallen's poem. Everything she says there is in the series. But they don't explain it to you with words like in the poem. The same thing happened to me with Euphemia's little story arc (yes, she has one of her own).
Tumblr media
At its core, Kallen's story arc is about transitioning from a reckless and immature girl who finds herself adrift to a selfless heroine with a purpose that transcends her. It is a coming-age story in all its definition. In that sense, it is essentially similar to the Lelouch arc as the rebellion brings out the best version of themselves. This is compassion, empathy, altruism. It's not very noticeable because Kallen isn't Machiavellian like Lelouch is, although she is just as pragmatic. One of the best samples you have of Kallen's development is in the penultimate episode of the first season.
In the early episodes, Kallen is deeply concerned with protecting her identity to the point that she does not hesitate to take risky actions that include killing others. But, in this penultimate episode, when the members of the Student Council refuse to obey the Black Knights thinking that they would harm them, Kallen unmasks herself before them to calm them down and ask them to trust them. Kallen prioritized the safety of her friends over her secret. The thing is that she had already done it before. By Zero. Kallen comes out of her Guren to ask Suzaku to let Zero go in episode 18 of the first season. She again places more importance on the safety of her leader than her identity. The difference between the two moments is that she calmly makes the decision to reveal herself in episode 24. That was not her last option as it was in episode 18.
Tumblr media
You'd think there wouldn't be any further development for Kallen in season two. But it's not true and, personally and based on Kallen's poem, I like to see her relationship with Lelouch as a temptation for her (temptation in the sense that it can lead her astray). Characters in visual media are often built on two pillars: what they want versus what they need, and up until that point, Kallen hadn't had to choose because the choice was so clear. That is, she had not faced a challenge. By the end, however, she must choose between the boy she loves and doing the right thing, and though Lelouch helps her choose the latter by keeping quiet about his feelings, Kallen decides of her own free will to do the right thing and, by extension, embrace her identity, her values and her brother's dream. Not caring that Lelouch has returned the kiss. Also in this second season Kallen is consolidated as the best Knightmare pilot of the series. Her most badass moments are here (and there are still people who have the nerve to say that she was relegated to the background; sorry, man, you're talking about C.C.).
I would like in the remote future to both write an individual analysis of Kallen as well as an analysis of her (misconstrued) relationship with Lelouch. On my Code Geass Facebook page I do it in Spanish and I use this space to address the international community. Now I am watching Code Geass again with a good channel of reactions on YouTube (since 2020 I have imposed the tradition of watching Code Geass once a year and with them I will fulfill my purpose for this 2023...) . I will see what new things I will discover now. I discovered what I have just told you on my return visit last year.
Fans only complain about her fanservice, spit on her relationship with Lelouch, accuse her of things she never did, and judge her harshly. They never take Kallen seriously. I want to be the first to do it, if no one with good analytical skills does it.

I've seen people compared Edelgard to Lelouch and it's a bit insulting tbh. Lelouch would never commit the same mistakes as Edelgard did in the game.
Lelouch would never work with the people he believed caused him pain. This is the reason why he'd rather work with the Black Knights than reclaiming his title as Prince to get answers and revenge. What does Edelgard do? Work with her tormentors. Lelouch did his best to convert Suzaku and join him. He saw his value not just as a friend but an asset on his crusade against the empire too. He tried all options available. How does Edelgard compare? Screw how much value they bring. Murder Dimitri and Claude!
Lelouch also knows how to listen and acknowledge when he's wrong. Also, when he does admit his mistakes, he shows remorse and course corrects as best as he can. He never ignored CC, Suzaku, Euphemia, and Kallen. Edelgard? Does this even need explanation? Sorry for dumping this on you. But it's just annoying how Edelgard is propped up as the "Lelouch" of the story when their similarities are little to none. Lelouch is the leader of rebels trying to bring down the empire occupying a colony for goodness sake - a position that's the exact opposite of conqueror Emperor Edelgard! He also joined the war initially to get revenge for his mother's "assasination" and sister's maiming. He never fought to change the world at first. He was in it for selfish reasons right up until the end when the truth of the Geass and his parent were revealed. Did the people claiming this really watched Code Geass? Do they truly understand Lelouch's and Edelgard's characters at all? Because if Lelouch had been in FE3H, the war would just be against the Church or Those Who Slithers since he'd definitely get Dimitri & Claude as allies. Lelouch is all about efficiency - wasting the Kingdom and the Alliance as resources in a pointless war is something he would not do. He knows how to work with people and make them desire to work with him too which Edelgard did not display in the game.
Ohhh no, no need to apologize! I’ve actually been meaning to get back to watching Code Geass, I watched the first episode years ago but never got to watching the rest of the anime despite how much I’ve been wanting to lol, this description of Lelouch is kinda makin’ me wanna go finish it!
But yeah, from all the descriptions of Lelouch I’ve heard over the years, Edelgard... doesn’t seem much like him lmao, outside of the superficial stuff like “does morally questionable things to achieve their goals,” I think the comparisons end about there. Dunno that much about the guy but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of person that would have bandits attack where she is to try and do... anything, whether it’s (the canon) kill Dimitri and Claude or (the fanon) Teach Theory lol

Newman’s Anime Reviews - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Hello and welcome again to the 2nd of my 2021 anime challenge review.
For February I’ve watched something that my friends were trying to make me watch for years.
It might actually be more than a decade that I’ve been putting this title off and they were quick to add this to my challenge list once the opportunity arised.
Were they right to recommend this title to me? Should I have watched this anime earlier? Those 10 years ago?
Perhaps. Still - I’m coming here with mixed feelings on this show. But… I’ll talk more about it in the review proper.
Today’s title is the 2006’s anime by Sunrise.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Tumblr media
Now where do I even begin with this show? What even is this? What the hell is happening?
Well…
The Empire of Britannia is one of the 3 major political powers in the world of Code Geass - ruled by the Emperor Charles zi Britannia they invaded the country of Japan 10 years before the start of the plot.
Their absolute military dominance thanks to the use of cool mecha has led to unconditional surrender of Japan which is now known as Area 11.
It is there that our protagonist - Lelouch - the young Britannian student plans to take his revenge on the Emperor himself for what he’s done to him and his wheelchair-bound sister.
I feel that it is important to put emphasis on this last part here because this is the ultimate motivation for our MC. Something that’ll drive him forward no matter what.
He wants to create a safe world for his sister. That’s it.
Tumblr media
Need to protecc.
The question that remains is: How?
How do a teenage boy banished to one of the colonies is supposed to change the world and cause a major power shift?
We get first glimpse at his supposed skill almost immediately - with Lelouch easily defeating an adult player in the game of chess. Nothing much so far but it’s an indication of his real power “shown” later on.
Lelouch is a genius… Or at least this is what the anime tries to convey to us. He is clearly smart and a gifted strategist with lots of charisma and a penchant for theatrics.
However - this is still not enough. That’s why something happens to push our protagonist forward at this stage. In a weird turn of events, a run in with anti-britannian terrorists and a top secret research subject Lelouch obtains the titular Geass.
What is a Geass? It is a power gifted to an individual which in case of Lelouch allows him to give anyone he establishes an eye contact with a single command that this person must follow.
Tumblr media
This is actually one of the tame ones.
From there on Lelouch joins and reforms the “terrorists” into “Black Knights” - a Rebellion led by his alter-ego the masked man called Zero - and starts executing his plan to take revenge… I mean to make the world a safe place for Nunnally.
From there we follow Lelouch as his Rebellion grows while he himself learns the limits and drawbacks of his power and tries his best to hide his identity as Zero.
Initially the show is quite entertaining - especially when it comes to battle scenes where we get to see Lelouch improbable planning and tactical skills at work. As for the other parts…
Yeah… I should have watched this show those 10 years ago because right now the parts with MC’s school life just don’t do this for me… They really slow down the plot and while they do serve the purpose of establishing various plot-important details it’s just...
Well the pacing sucks.
Without any breaks and just the action sequences the anime would be very much rushed but the break parts at school just go on forever, developing into trivial stories used to deliver some little bit of exposition or character development. The balance is off and the show doesn’t get better until the mid point…
Speaking of which…
Tumblr media
Nice mountain you’ve got there...
There’s a major shift that happens somewhere in the mid-point of the anime that is bothering me to this day.
Who is the bad guy?
It might seem like a trivial question to many.
Obviously it’s Britannia! With their world conquest, asshole Emperor, warmongering royals, discrimination of conquered nations they call Numbers (in case of Japanese it’s “Elevens”) and engaging in wanton destruction and genocide for no good reason. They’re basically the Nazis.
With the above in mind there’s nothing wrong with Lelouch being willing to use all means at his disposal to achieve his goals… Right?
Monsters need to be stopped.
That was kinda the thing until the Battle of Narita where the Black Knights’ tactics caused the destruction of a town.
Now - this by itself could have been used to drive the point home with the Rebellion losing a lot of PR. After all the town was in the JLF controlled territory, inhabited by the Elevens and stuff…
Well. You see - the creators of the show didn’t think that was enough and/or missed the opportunity.
First of all - there’s no PR backlash for the Black Knights whatsoever. Nobody cares. The Britannian are now leading the rescue and recovery operations in the area and… It’s just weird. Why would they suddenly bother?
Secondly - it suddenly turns out that the people in the enemy-controlled territory were… Britannians? SOMEHOW. This is made to inflict personal level suffering to MC and some other characters as one of the character’s relatives dies in the event.
Third of all - after this very point there’s a major change. We no longer get to see Britannians committing atrocities but do get Lelouch crossing line after a line in the pursuit of his goals.
I think the creators realized that to make it appear more grey vs grey they can’t show Britannians as complete monsters but… It really doesn’t feel to occur naturally here. Were the person in charge of Britannians change again? Yes - I could accept that they are a better person than the previous leader. It isn’t so. And even if it was it wouldn’t undo their previous actions and made the characters that stayed seem really inconsistent.
It’s a major turn off for me when consistency in storytelling takes a back seat for a point to be made.
Tumblr media
Because Zero’s not edgy enough without it I guess...
There’s also another kind of inconsistency here when it comes to battles.
The cool mecha used by the Britannians are… Well. In the early parts they seem indestructible until the plot demands they’re not.
At first it seems that only other mecha have the weapons that can affect them. Then we see that some weapons do work BUT it is only when MC is commanding the battle.
It’s a magic wand that removes the plot armor from Britannians whenever Lelouch is there and often gives them to the allies.
Often - being the key word here.
One good thing is that it doesn’t stick. Plot-important characters don’t die but they are not immune to damage either. The mechas often get wrecked and require fixing. Lelouch himself is subject to this quite often as he’s not an outstanding pilot like others on his side.
It is thanks to that aspect of the action parts that the anime is not becoming one-sided and remains entertaining. You’re drawn to it to see what’s happening because it’s not just another battle.
Tumblr media
Yes... Really entertaining battles...
I think it is becoming apparent what’s the issue here.
There are a lot of things done wrong with this anime. Things that don’t necessarily break it but I can’t just overlook them. Things that are putting me off. Inconsistency, bad pacing, weird editing where some scenes are cut extremely abruptly - as if to reduce time.
There’s also the usual issue of geniuses written by people who are not geniuses. Lelouch brilliancy is only guaranteed by the fact that people on the other side will do something stupid. Some of his actions are not the brightest and some are just downright stupid and easily could lead to his downfall were his enemies to have half a brain. Or worse - one action is such a poor choice it simply falls apart on it’s own - and you could expect it to the moment “it” happens (is there a point in keeping spoilers on this show? I’m talking about Geasing Shirley).
There’s also the braindead Suzaku - a subject so controversial on the Internet that I’ve hesitated to touch it here and decided to only reduce it to a small paragraph.
Yes. Suzaku is an idealistic foil to Lelouch. He serves his purpose. BUT. His idealism is stupid - not by the virtues he’s holding but by remaining blind to what is happening around him. He wants to end the discrimination without using violence but the Britannians are killing Elevens for no reason whatsoever. Time and time again the side he’s on goes against his principles and he still sticks to them. It is becoming less and less possible to emphasise with him with each incidence.
Still - there was a certain charm to this anime. It was fun to watch and only getting better the farther in I’ve gotten.
Not including the school drama.
All in all the score I was about to give was still going to be pretty low at this point. The anime was decent but far too flawed for my tastes… That was when the last story arc started.
Tumblr media
The pizza...
I must say. The rug was pulled from under my feet.
Those events were really unexpected. Emotionally draining and yet entertaining as nothing before in this show.
So many lines have been crossed in an instant - there was no return. Not anymore. Shit was happening and it was a spectacle to watch. Some men just want to see the world burn. Duh. I watched events unfold and I enjoyed it very much until the very end.
The end of a 1st season that assured I WILL watch the 2nd one when I find the time (I didn’t so that it wouldn’t affect this review).
All in all - the show’s grand finale is the high point that offsets all the problems I’ve talked about earlier. It is simply done perfectly.
And speaking of endings. It is time to finally end this review as well...
 Final Score: 7/10
Status: Completed Season 1
Sentence: Lelouch vi Britannia commands you: Watch Season 2!
Previous: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Custom Toonami Block Week 71 Rundown!
Code Geass: Lelouch establishes the Black Knights floating iceburg country complete with representatives and shit and somehow no one on the team monitoring Lelouch notices he disappears right when Zero is exiled, like yeah half of them are in Lelouch’s pocket anyway but you’d think him just yeeting himself out of the country would be difficult to hide from the oversight committee. Anyway Brittania being Brittania is going to have a political wedding with the Chinese Disturbingly Loli Empress and their literal oldest Prince, like they couldn’t even pick a slightly younger prince to make this less creepy, it’s literally the First Prince who’s like 40, I’m sure Charles has fucked more recently and they have a younger prince but no we have to really hammer home how creepy this is. So yeah now that Lelouch’s new band is under the Chinese banner, having them make peace with Brittania and sell them out would be bad so Lelouch decides to crash the celebration and… challenge Schnizel to Chess, because reasons. And both of them just proceed to completely ignore the rules of Chess for shit that’s thematically appropriate before Nina tries to stab Zero and Schnizel says he has all he needs about who Zero really is. Also Milly’s here and I feel bad for her because all of her friends are several degrees down the sanity cliff now and she’s just there trying to hold their cliché student council group together while wondering if she really will have to marry Lloyd or not because it’s been a year and they threw together this Chinese marriage in like two days so who knows anymore. Anyway Xingke crashes the wedding because of his adorable backstory with the Empress and Lelouch crashes Xingke’s crashing of the wedding by literally appearing out of nowhere which is pretty good for a guy as shitty at athletics as Lelouch and also Jeremiah is on a chair in a desert and this is important or something.
Inuyasha: So we start the Panther Deva filler arc and it’s pretty good honestly, we have an array of Captain Planet Panthers to fight with elemental powers of varying strength to give Koga, Miroku, Sango and Sesshomaru something to do so it’s not just the Inuyasha Wind Scar Power Hour and we have some good foreshadowing/fluff of Inuyasha eating steak in the modern era and fucking around with Kagome’s cat and pissing it off which is a good thematic throughline about how petty cats are and the whole thing has this sunset coloring and it’s really pretty. Anyway Kagome gets captured, you know how it goes, Koga’s pissed because Inuyasha is always letting Kagome get captured and he has a fucking point, bitch is captured more than Princess Peach at this point. But turns out the Panther Demons run behind a barrier and too bad for them Inuyasha just got a new anti-barrier sword to try out.
Yu Yu Hakusho: So Suzaku’s kind of broken, he can dispel his clones to heal himself which apparently gives him all of his energy back because he went from exhausted to just being able to re-do the clones again and start blasting Yusuke so he heals and rests indefinitely as long as one of the clones is alive that’s fucking insane. Anyway apparently despite just healing, Suzaku got his guidance system damaged by Yusuke’s first attack and his aim has been getting progressively worse so he just has to sit there with stormtrooper aim winging Yusuke now and then to torture the poor guy despite going Super Saiyan last time Yusuke only had one shot in him but now he does the whole Life Chakra deal and gives his life for one more even Super Saiyan-yer burst and Shotguns Suzaku’s clones into dust and somehow transmits energy to Keiko through the tv to protect her. It’s pretty convenient that Yusuke learned an AOE attack right before fighting someone that needs all of their clones to be killed at the same time to stay down but yeah, arc over, pretty fun, Yusuke pulled so much power out of his ass he literally dies but some spirit mouth to mouth with Kuwabara saves him with surprisingly little consequences for either of them while Hiei says he’d never drag himself down to save anyone and I’m sure that won’t come back to haunt him. Also Yusuke FINALLY tells Keiko he’s a Spirit Detective given this is like the third time she’s been held hostage by a demon she probably should’ve figured this out sooner.
Fate Zero: Caster’s sitting there talking about how Saber is his waifu and like dude Saber is EVERYONE’s waifu but apparently it’s not actually Saber he’s after but a Saberface so he’s not wrong but he’s also not right. So yeah, he orders more child murders which knowing this guy there isn’t a situation that calls for less child murders. Also Lancer’s teacher asshole dude is cheating by using two E-Tanks for his servant after being all ‘haha old magician families are just better lol’ he has to use two dudes to make his servant fight and still got rolled by Iskandar. Also Kiritgusu bombs the fuck out of his building which given this takes place in 1994 is probably in very poor taste. Also Kirei meets Kiritsugu’s battle maid and shit goes down but everyone’s like “Okay Caster’s more insane than usual so we should probably take care of that” and Gilgamesh claims he’s gonna teach Kirei about pleasure while shirtlessly drinking wine so there’s that.
Konosuba: So Dio-voice Dullahan is back and he’s pissed because Megumin keeps getting off to destroying his home. Though through a combination of luck, Darkness being a meatshield, Aqua’s absurd water/holy power and Kazuma’s dumb luck along with Megumin blowing up the henchmen, everyone plays a role in defeating him in the most ridiculous manner possible. Despite not actually getting any money from it, it’s nice to see the group come together and actually accomplish something in their own way. Makes me think maybe this series won’t just be dicking around about nothing forever, which is fun don’t get me wrong but I don’t think I could stand 52 episodes of one note character jokes with absolutely no progression.
Sailor Moon Crystal: Tuxedo Mask blows the load on the whole Silver Crystal deal to the whole town so now everybody knows about it and can keep an eye out for it. So despite Tuxedo Mask being nothing but helpful Luna assumes he still may be bad and has the power to brainwash a whole town despite his only notable skills thusfar have been standing on telephone poles like Itachi Uchiha and cheerleading. Anyway Luna takes everyone to Zordon’s Morphing Control Center under the aracade which you think would’ve come up by now and reveals she’s a moon cat which you think also would’ve come up by now. Luna’s really just been “We gotta do the thing cause I say so” this entire time. Anyway they wreck the tv broadcast and kick the King’s ass but we have a Disc One Final Boss as Queen Beryl shows up and uses her Conqueror’s Haki to knock out the other Guardians without touching them while Usagi has an existential crisis about her crush maybe being problematic. They give motivational speeches to each other, basically Usagi telling him that they both have to try harder despite feeling powerless and them immediately wilting and saying she’s hopless so he can have a turn giving her a speech and then she gets surprised when he knows she’s Sailor Moon despite literally just telling him she’s the leader and has to help everyone and shit. Anyway, you know how this goes by now, Ancient Moon Laser Beams, bad guys fall, Queen retreats and Usagi wakes up in Mamoru’s apartment ready to reenact Fifty Shades of Moon. Hey an actual fucking cliffhanger for once, that’s kinda neat.
Durarara!!:  Mikado’s plan finally comes together and he meets with Ms. Yagiri while Celty confronts the girl with her head who says her name is also Celty. We get Mikado’s backstory about basically creating Reddit to make The Dollars a Stand Alone Complex, a gang that doesn’t actually exist outside of the rumors of its existence, man this kid’s been watching too much GitS. Still despite it going predictably awful with guys doing shitty things in their name by some miracle some of Mikado’s wide-eyed optimism gets through and his belief in the good of humanity makes the Dollars a gang that’s good at its core. And now they use that good to outnumber the Yagiri goons and let Mikado get away while Celty jumps off a roof on her bike and has a mental breakdown which people seem to hear for some reason. Also Seiji broke out and is using his yandere energy to hunt down Mikado.

eep i'm sincerely sorry but if i may ask you another question... (feel free to ignore ask if you want or are busy, i'll understand!!) i'm wondering if you can reccomend any more manga like Lelouch the Tutor and if there are any other translations of other mangas such as those, may you please tell me? Thank you for your time 💝🍀🍀. maybe even if they're not translated...if you know what sites to read them or buy them-? 💜
I mean... no, not manga. CG has had a LOT of manga spinoffs, but LtT is very much the only fluffy high school AU (apart from maybe Code Black), and I think it is probably also the only manga with a canon Lelouch/C.C. pairing (though one presumes that's where Re;surrection will eventually head). For example, in Suzaku of the Counterattack, C.C. actually dies and Suzaku winds up with "her"* Code.
See, you have to understand: almost all CG manga were either plotted out or literally completed before the original anime concluded, and Sunrise's approach to licensed spinoffs (at least with this property) has always been very hands-off. It was Gorou Taniguchi, I believe, who said that they didn't want to hamper the creativity of the people working on spinoff manga, video games, etc.
So, in Lost Colors, the PS2 game released early in 2008, your (male) player character can date a number of the female characters, C.C. included, as well as Lelouch himself (though in a much more subtextual form, as one might expect from a non-BL game of the time period).
In Nightmare of Nunnally, Nunnally is a Knightmare pilot herself and the Knights of the Round are, like, creepy zombies, and Rolo is Lelouch's twin.
And, IIRC, the eponymous manga Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion... just doesn't have any mech in it, and ends very differently from the TV series.
For the more canon-compliant manga, it's either like Renya or Oz or Lancelot & Guren (and therefore not really about Lelouch-and-C.C., much less Lelouch/C.C.), or it's... well, again, the only other thing even slightly like LtT is definitely Code Black: Lelouch of the Shred Guitar, but that's much shorter even than LtT, and it — like the vast majority of these — is just not very 'shippy.
You might like them, you might not, but there are no explicitly romantic kisses in any of them. The Code Geass 'ship wars were, for a long time, firmly undecided, and that's reflected in these manga adaptations. There might be subtext, or unrelated minor character relationships, but that is about it.
A few of these manga did get licensed translations into English — the one just called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Suzaku of the Counterattack, and maybe Nightmare of Nunnally...? But I can only find the first one on Amazon with a quick Google search, and they're all going to be out of print. (Bandai Entertainment was really ambitious with its initial release of CG stuff, but then it... well, went bankrupt.) Your best bet for English copies is going to be eBay, probably.
Now, if you want doujinshi, fan-made amateur comics, I'm sure there have been plenty of cute ones centered around Lelouch and C.C., but I wouldn't really know where to go looking for them, sorry. 😥 😔 😟
*Well, I mean, it wasn't a direct transfer, he sort of just manifests one from sheer will. But again this manga was completed before the original TV show.
ETA: Also gosh, you're not bothering me. I'm just sorry this answer is so very definitely not the one you were hoping for!! Since Sunrise keeps making these spinoffs, there's always the chance something more like LtT will materialize in the future. ❤
