L’appel Du Vide: 01 What a Way to Start
Not that anybody is really reading it here, but I decided to follow through with this story no matter what.
All chapters: 00 - 01 - All stories in PDF
Rhys is the CEO of Atlas and Jack’s AI is back, surprise, surprise! Now Rhys is dismayed, Jack doesn’t care much, and the events of Borderlands 3 are just beginning to unravel. Is there any way to fix the plot of this game? Would it be any better if Rhys had to cooperate with Jack this whole time? Well, this is your chance to find out!
Spoiler: yes, dammit, it would. Everything’s better with a bit of Handsome Jack in it.
Genres: Fix-It, Developing Relationship, Alternate Canon, POV Third Person, Humor, Drama, Plot-driven (kind of? well, it has plot)
Pairing: Handsome Jack’s AI/Rhys (they’re still just talking, dammit)
Characters: Handsome Jack’s AI, Rhys
Rating: M for Mature but not in this chapter lol
Size: around 3000 words (chapter 2/11)
Tumblr media
Sun set and rose, another day began. Rhys shaved off his moustache.
“Mornin’, sleeping beauty,” said Jack, who was sitting in Rhys’ chair when the latter one entered his office wearing only red bathrobe and home slippers.
“Morning,” replied Rhys, eying Jack wearily. Jack almost expected him to be surprised by his presence all over again, but it seemed like Rhys did not, after all, convince himself that the events of the previous day were just a dream, which, depending on how one looks at it, might even be considered personal growth. “Let me say how much I appreciate you not stalking me while I sleep. Just so you knew,” he said, painfully aware of Jack’s realness and determination to stay.
“Actually,” began Jack, idly following Rhys’s movements around the room with his gaze, “I watched you for some time, but your face looked so stupid that I started having these fits of hysterical laughter, so I left not to wake you up accidentally. I care for you so much, after all, and… Hey!”–he suddenly sat upright in the chair and pointed at Rhys’s hunched miserable figure–“that thing from your face disappeared! I could’ve sworn I saw it yesterday...”
“And now it’s gone,” concluded Rhys with a sigh.
“Phew, great job, pal. It was so awful, I cannot even begin to describe.”
“What? I thought you liked it,” said Rhys, nonplussed.
“Yeah, about that… I lied. Didn’t want to tell you this, but with that moustache, I wouldn’t let my kids anywhere near you,” said Jack and cackled.
Rhys scowled. He got rid of his moustache precisely because Jack told him he liked it, even despite the fact that it was particularly hard for him, considering the meaning it supposedly held. Since the day before he had this strange desire to do everything in opposition to Jack. Perhaps, it was deeply rooted in his former traumatic experience with the AI. Or in the fact that he had always been kind of mischievous, either one of those two.
“I see you’re in a good mood today,” said Rhys, making himself a morning coffee. He couldn’t say the same thing about himself – half of the night he spent persuading himself not to bang his head on the wall until Jack left for good. As a temporary means, it was as good as anything, but certainly wouldn’t be a reliable way to get rid of the AI forever. In any case, it seems not to have worked for Rhys previously, so he had to come up with something else. Changing the prosthetics took time, and he didn’t have that precious resource at his disposal in the needed amount.
In the end, when he finally managed to fall asleep, it was at the thought that he was actually a little sorry for what happened with Jack’s hologram during their last confrontation. Despite all the evil Jack had done, he used to be a significant part of Rhys’s life and helped shape him into what he was now. Most importantly, he taught him not to trust anybody and to always swing for the fences. Now, being the CEO of Atlas, Rhys could clearly see that this strategy worked perfectly.
“Oh, by the by, I took some time to look through your files and check out this Kawatagi guy we talked about yesterday. Must say, he’s a very promising candidate. Maybe, I should’ve chosen him as my successor instead of you-know-who,” said Jack in a conspiratorial tone, stroking his chin and narrowing his eyes. “Instead of you, I’m talking about you,” he added in a normal voice.
Rhys sighed, gently lowering two sugar cubes into his coffee. Here we go again.
“First, why the heck did you rummage in my computers without my permission? Second, his name’s Katagawa, more precisely – Katagawa Junior. And a candidate for what? Wait, don’t say anything, I don’t even want to know. Now get out of my chair,” said Rhys and proceeded to try and shoo Jack away with a few careless waves of his hand.
“It’s not like you can’t sit here. I’m just a hologram, you know.”
Jack was grinning, of course. Rhys looked down at him with his tired sleepless eyes and sighed the fortieth time this morning.
“Remember when we first met, you called me weird? Now you’re the one being weird, congratulations.”
“Oh, come o-o-on, don’t be so bo-o-oring.” Jack disappeared from the chair and reappeared on the sofa, lying on his side with his head resting on his hand. “You know, I think I’ve now seen enough of you to bet with confidence that you don’t have any friends. I bet I was your closest friend (and don’t forget that I was your imaginary closest friend), ‘cause I don’t see how someone can tolerate that attitude for long.”
Don’t worry, Rhys, he won’t get to you, you’re thick-skinned now, you know that, thought Rhys and put his mug on the table. He sunk into his chair and turned on the ECHO device to check for any new messages.
“Actually, I do have friends,” he said in his best I-am-not-offended tone.
“Yeah? Anybody in particular?”
“Zer0, for example. I am proud to call him my friend and I’m sure he’s proud to be called mine.”
“Zer0, yeah… wait, who’s that again?”
Rhys rolled his eyes. Some things just never changed.
“One of the vault hunters who… took part in your elimination, so to put it,” he answered carefully.
“Oh, yeah, that filthy bandit, I remember him! Well, not him killing me, of course, but I think I saw him somewhere. Didn’t he have that mental condition? I remember him saying some gibberish instead of speaking like normal people do. Yeah, right,”–Jack laughed–“I can see you two dorks being friends.”
“How could I have survived this long without you trying to offend me all the time? Unbelievable.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking! Or was that still your thought? I always forget I’m in your head. Anyway, to summarize our conversation so far, we’ve established that you’re a pathetic loner with only one creature in the whole world you can call a friend of sorts. You never seize to amaze me, Rhys.”
“There’s also Vaughn,” said Rhys through his teeth, beginning to lose his patience.
“And that is…?”
“You remember Vaughn, don’t you?”
“If I’m asking who that is, then, apparently, I don’t,” answered Jack, making the irritation in his voice sound as blatant as possible. “Why do you carry around that thing people call a head, huh?”
“He used to work for Hyperion with me.” Rhys threw a quick glance at Jack, looking for any sign of recognition on his face, but there was none. “Is short, wears glasses?” Still no signs. “Has a six-pack?” he said in his last desperate attempt to make Jack’s memory serve its purpose.
To his surprise, it actually worked. Jack snapped his fingers and rolled over on the sofa.
“Oh, that ne-erd, yeah, I remember him. Where’s he now?” he asked, not even trying to pretend that he really cared about the answer.
“He’s on Pandora, doing some bandit stuff. Guess he is working for the…” Rhys suddenly stopped, hastily thinking about what he had almost let out.
“For whom?” asked Jack indifferently. The answer still didn’t matter much to him, but he just couldn’t bear the thought of Rhys keeping something hidden from him.
“For the… err… for, well, you know… coughmson coughders,” replied Rhys, sounding like he was choking on something, and started loudly typing on the table, pretending that he was incredibly busy with his emails.
“What? Didn’t quite catch that.”
“Rimzon raide-ez,” indistinctly said Rhys into his fist and cleared his throat.”
“God dammit, Rhys, what the fuck are you saying there?” shouted Jack with annoyance and jerked up from the sofa. “Should I stand right behind you all the time to know what comes out of your mouth? Even your thoughts are more distinct than that.”
Perhaps, scared by the prospect of Jack constantly following him closely, even closer than he already did, Rhys gave in.
“It’s the Crimson Raiders, for god’s sake!” he yelled and landed his fist heavily on the table. He then took a deep breath to calm down and added, “He works for the Crimson Raiders. I just didn’t want to tell you.”
“O-oh. O-o-o-oh, I see how it is. He’s with team idiots now, isn’t he? Well, good to know. Now we’ve proven that all your friends are either stupid or nonexistent. Great.”
Rhys’s left eye was glowing as he was interfacing with the devices in his office. He took a sip of his coffee, scrolled down the list of new casualties reports and tried not to take what he had heard close to his heart.
“Now that I got my daily dose of humiliating you, let’s talk business,” said Jack and laced his fingers together as if he had a very profitable offer for his interlocutor. “I think we can squeeze something out of this Katamaga,” he began, and Rhys immediately exerted himself. He did not like the sound of that. “I think there’s more to him than you see. He doesn’t just want Atlas, you see, he very obviously wants you to work with him. What a fool! That’s a perfect opportunity for us to rob him of everything he has, including his pathetic corporation. I mean, I never liked Maliwan, but if it’s a gift horse… Who am I not to take it on your behalf, right?”
“I appreciate the thought you put into it, but I already have another plan, and it definitely isn’t allying with Katagawa Jr. He’s an obsessed psychopath and I don’t want anything to do with him,” replied Rhys confidently. He shivered even at the possibility of having another Jack-like associate.
“Enlighten me then. What genius idea has your corporate mind produced?”
“First, you have to promise not to yell at me. My head aches and I won’t endure any more than you already being here and talking to me,” said Rhys patiently, already predicting Jack’s reaction to what he intended to share. There was no way to keep it a secret, so he wanted to at least soften the blow.
“Yeah, whatever,” said Jack and yawned.
Rhys braced himself. Discussing this would surely be no easy matter.
“I want to make a deal with Lilith. She helps me defeat maliwans, and I give her something she wants in return.”
There was silence. Then there was a snarl and a nondescript squeal.
“WHAT. THE FUCK. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! MM, RHYSIE, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN?” Jack appeared standing on Rhys’s table right before him. The sight made Rhys spit out a bunch of his coffee. “You’re joking, right?” Jack squatted down to see Rhys’s face when he spoke. “Out of a-a-all people in these 6 goddamn galaxies you choose her? I see you’ve been a very bad boy in daddy’s absence, completely out of your mind!”
Rhys raised his index finger and burbled, “You told me you won’t yell. I specifically asked you not to yell, Jack.”
“What am I supposed to do then, huh?!” Jack disappeared and in the next second was already standing at the window with his arms crossed, thoughtfully observing the Atlas soldiers running around outside. “I thought you can’t disappoint me more than you already have, but it seems like you always manage to conquer new heights.”
“Look, there’s really no point in talking about this. I’m my own boss now and this is my decision. I was the one to rebuild Atlas from ruins, so I’m sure I’ll be able to take care of it. Please, Jack, I’m tired and sick and I don’t want all this.” Rhys sighed wearily and rubbed a coffee stain on the table with the sleeve of his bathrobe.
“Okay. Okay-okay-okay-okay, hear me out. Just this one time, just once, let me tell you something.” Jack turned to Rhys and Rhys gave him a little nod after considering for a few seconds. It’s not like he really had a choice, he just liked to think he had a firm grip on the situation. “Tell me, do you remember Lilith doing something, anything for the sake of somebody else?”
“Um, yeah, she killed you, actually,” replied Rhys confidently.
“No-no-no, honey, she didn’t do it for somebody, she just wanted to have her revenge on me,” said Jack, stressing what he viewed as essential pieces of information to make sure Rhys REALLY got what he wanted to say. Were he not a hologram, he would probably be shaking with rage as he did it. “She wanted to destroy me, because I destroyed her boyfriend who just wouldn’t let me wipe those bandit asses, which, by the way, included his, off my planet. She couldn’t care less about all those people that died, about Crimson Raiders, about her other “friends”. She is a murderer, just like you, me, like any other person on that goddamn planet. The only difference is that she, unlike us, didn’t have ANY good will.”
Jack’s intense stare made Rhys turn away. AI’s words made him consider what he knew of Lilith, but he felt almost wrong when doing so. He shook his head, trying to scare the thoughts away.
“You just hate her, that’s all. She may not be the best option, but when choosing between her and Maliwan, I believe, the choice is obvious.
“Is it? Is it, though?” asked Jack furiously with his eyes almost bulging out. “Let me tell you one thing. Two things, actually. Despite how surprising it might sound to you, I’m actually happy that she killed me. You know why? Of course, you don’t, otherwise we wouldn’t have this conversation now, dummy. So, I’ll be kind enough to explain. Even after her betrayal, I didn’t finish her off, which means I am better than her. “What is the second thing, Jack?” you might ask. Well, here goes: she is a stinking bandit. A bandit, and the only thing you should do with bandits is kill them, but I’m sure this much you should know by now.” After finishing his rant, Jack exhaled loudly and adjusted his unmoving hair with a swift motion of his hand. To top his speech off, he asked, “Still better than Katagawa?”
Rhys, however, still remained unimpressed.
“Jack, he killed his entire family to become the CEO of Maliwan. I imagine you would think it’s a reasonable thing to do when you want to run the corporation so bad, but I’m sure you know I disagree with that.”
“And what do YOU know about his family?” asked Jack, clearly upset by the lack of expected reaction. “Do you even know anything about the way he runs Maliwan? The only thing I know is that now they are more successful than ever (even though I hate to say it). Use your brains, kid, and you’ll go further than you could’ve hoped. One of these two alliances will bestow endless opportunities upon you while the other one will almost certainly get you stabbed in the back.”
“I hear you. I hear you and I disagree. I’m sorry, Jack,” said Rhys and shook his head apologetically. He was already imagining what would such a start of his day lead to.
“Oh my god, how can you not see that you have more in common with him than a skag and a grinder! He sees something in you, and that something makes him crave for your favor with such persistence. Just imagine how much you can squeeze out of him if you give him the tiniest thing in return. It’s simply a gold mine!”
“He wants us to merge, that’s enough of a reason for me to refuse him,” said Rhys with utter disgust.
“So what? Don’t worry about that, cupcake, you’ve got me, and I’m here to help. Who says we’re gonna merge?” Noticing how Rhys was shaking his head again, Jack leaned closer, trying to make the atmosphere more… companionable, and continued in a calmer voice.  “Believe me, I know that Atlas is your child and you would never sacrifice it. We’re gonna… adjust the conditions a little, little tiny bit. No merge, only the alliance. How does that sound?”
Rhys thought that Jack was once again confirming what a masterful negotiator he was. No matter what objections Rhys had, he always did his homework and learned his weaknesses. The long-forgotten feeling of a threat sitting right at his side returned to Rhys as he caught himself thinking over the possibility of allying with Maliwan. Don’t budge, Rhys, don’t let him see that you have second thoughts, he’ll eat you alive.
“Completely unachievable,” he was only able to utter.
“Come on, stop screwing around, will you? You’re wasting time with your fidelity to stupid principles. Have I ever given you any bad advice?”
Rhys chose not to say anything. It was as good an answer as any other. The leftover coffee in his mug already went cold and he frowned in disgust when sipping on it.
“Okay then, I’m beginning to grow real tired of this, so you better listen here, you little dipshit, and listen carefully…” Jack’s tone was once again peremptory and his eyes were drilling into Rhys’s soul. “I’m tryna help here, so stop pretending you’re a princess who lives in a tower filled with her little cute ponies and chooses to believe there’s no filth around her. Just do what I say and you’ll be on your road trip to success. And you’ll thank me later, believe me. If you choose not to do this, however, I’ll follow you around all the time, saying what a sore loser you are. All day, all night, Rhysie. You know me, I’m restless, and I can come up with millions of ways to make you hate your life. You won’t sleep, you won’t talk to anybody, you won’t eat your fucking lunch without me standing one centimeter away from your ear, whispering how much you suck. Now let that sink in. Once it has, give me your final answer.”
Jack’s eyes were glowing. His whole body was glowing because he was a hologram, that’s just what holograms do. Yet even though it was his permanent state, an unchangeable condition, his eyes looked different.
He really is serious, thought Rhys to himself. Well then, guess I’m going to die of starvation, sleep deprivation, and lack of human contact.
“Fuck you, Jack. Fuck. You.”
“Is that a yes?”

Borderlands 3 - Breakdown Mega Thread.
Tumblr media
Well holy shit guys. We got a teaser trailer full of good things, now we’ve got a full blown Borderlands 3 trailer. And there is certainly some things to unpack. We’re left pretty clueless as to what the majority of the story will be like, but we’re given enough to know what some of the driving points of the game will be. If you want to avoid spoilers quit now, I’m going to do my best to connect some dots. This is an initial reaction / speculation thread. Once again. Some of this is pretty surface level, other parts are pure speculation.
Here’s what I touch on:
Vault Hunters
The Antagonists
Sirens / A Siren theory
7 years between BL2 and BL3?
Psychos + Bandits
*just an fyi, if I put a “ ~ “ it means I’m not sure about the information.
So we have our Vault Hunters.
Tumblr media
First up is ~Amara the Siren. Other than the fact that we see her spouting six glowing arms, we’re not all to sure what her siren abilities are. During one of the “montage” sequences in the trailer we do get a single first-person shot of a siren using Phase Lock on an enemy. Seeing as we were not going to be playing as Maya, I’d say ~Amara has several Phase abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Flak, the android Beast Mast / Hunter class. The full extent of his abilities are unknown with the rest of the Vault Hunters but as his class name suggests, he seems to control / have an array of pets to assist in battle. Something notable about his pets is that they seem to sport some mechanical enhancements (image 2). The other notable thing about Flak is that at one point he’s firing a gun and there seems to be an aura growing around him (image 3). Presumably it’s an aura that damages nearby enemies, and maybe giving buffs to allies. I’m fairly certain this is going to be the class I start as.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now we have Moze the Bot Jock. Her ability seems to be centered around calling in a Mech / Titan / Bot of some kind to assist in battle. Taking it a step further than Mordecai, Gaige, and Wilhelm who could summon assistance in battle, Moze’s ally seems to be an ally that she can ride / control by not only herself, but by her allies as well (image 3). Of the four new Vault Hunters, I suspect Moze is going to be the tankiest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And last among our new Vault Hunter’s is Zane the Operative. His ability seems to be similar to that of Zero and Timothy (Jack’s body double) in utilizing a device that conjures a holographic clone of himself, most likely to draw the fire of enemies rather than taking it himself. My best guess for Zane is that he’s our sniper class, and relies on tactical approaches to combat. Judging by clothes, he seems to be wealthy. Wealthy enough to afford a holographic-cloning device.
Tumblr media
Now this is where I get really excited. I think a number of us were waiting see if Lilith would be an antagonist or an anti-hero in this game, and while this remains unknown she is certainly going to play a big part of this game and will carry a significant amount of focus from the antagonists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the biggest takeaway from our two antagonists is that the female is a siren! Take a look at those glowing tattoos in the first image above and this second one we only got a single frame of in a “montage sequence”. So these two seem to be at the head of a cult-like movement / organization called The Children of the Vault, which was alluded to in the Battleborn easter egg. What the purpose or beliefs of this cult is I’m not too sure yet. But they do seem to have a fixation on the Vault Symbol upside down.
This is where it gets real interesting. Let’s take a look at a couple images of Lilith:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With these first two images everything seems to be fairly normal. Lilith does seem to be alone but that isn’t so surprising judging by the end of TPS. She had some different views and has probably ventured out on her own some to explore herself. Now it gets scary. It seems like the new Antagonist Siren has the ability to strip away the powers of other Sirens AND gift them to someone else, even if they’re male! Check this out.
Below we see Lilith crawling towards a Vault Key. The significance is unknown, but could it be the “key” to an extraordinary power like stripping a Siren’s powers? Notice Lilith’s tattoos are gone both on her arm and chest.
Tumblr media
So knowing now that Lilith’s powers have been stripped away, watch the interaction between our two antagonists in the background. When they clasp arms an energy seems to transfer between the two, leaving the male with glowing tattoos! It seems like Lilith’s powers have been stripped away and gifted to a male!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know in Borderlands lore that only six Sirens can exist at any given point in time, and that they are female. Well our male certainly didn’t come about the powers in the “natural” way, but it seems like we’re going to be dealing with two Siren antagonists.
So now we know out antagonists are certainly a pair to be reckoned with. Can they take away the powers of more than one Siren, making themselves even more powerful? I suspect we will get into this as we are reintroduced to Maya alongside a new addition to Borderlands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this Maya’s daughter? Neophyte? Someone who became a Siren after the passing of Angel in BL2? Well we don’t know. But we will soon! If she is a Siren as I suspect she is, then our Antagonists will not only have their eyes on Maya but this young ~girl as well.
In the “Mask of Mayhem” there is an image of a character model passing a book to a small child, I assumed they were Sirens as the Siren class mod is a book. Here is the image below.
Tumblr media
I’m going to take that image as further proof that this young one is indeed a Siren that Maya is either passing the mantle to, or at least teaching her the ropes.
But now that brings into question the character model that I believe is the “counter-part” to our young Siren: this individual below.
Tumblr media
Is this individual also a Siren, but one already under the control of the Antagonists? Again. Speculation...
Onto some less serious topics and giving some first impressions!
Below we have Rhys standing with Zero! It’s nice to see these two decided to stick together for a bit. As the head of Atlas, it looks like Rhys has reinstated the Crimson Lance to some degree. It also looks as though his mechanical arm has a couple of bugs...
Tumblr media
Also notable is his mustache. Now this gets into a topic matter that I’ve seen rumored, a nd that’s that BL3 takes place roughly 7 years after BL2. That could explain why Rhys is in a secure enough position to pay a Vault Hunter (Zer0) to be his body guard AND reinstate a small army.
Further backing this 7 year theory is Maya and the young girl. If a small child came into a Siren’s power after the passing of Angel she could have been only a couple years old and would now reach the age she is standing next to Maya. This also explains Maya’s very long hair.
Another factor is Tiny Tina’s age! She’s not so tiny anymore.
Tumblr media
If it’s been 7 years, that would make Tina around 20 years old in the above image. After the passing of Roland, and Lilith leaving (presumably) it seems like Brick and Mordecai took Tina under their wing to raise her as a Vault Hunter in training! She certainly looks the part with grenades strapped to her forearm.
My last point on this “7 year theory” is that if I’m remembering correctly, in Borderlands lore the seasonal cycle of Pandora is roughly this: 1 Pandora cycle = 6 or 7 Earth cycles. This is why Pandora is so desolate. The DAHL corp shipped prisoners to Pandora as a labor force to build the beginnings of a civilization and begin mining. When they arrived most of the wildlife was hibernating so they got a pretty good start on their construction, but eventually the wildlife woke up. And began killing everyone.
DAHL pulled out and left the prisoners. And so the birth of Bandit camps full of Psychos and the rest making up the majority of what we’ve seen of Pandora with only a few hubs of “civilization”. Introduce rumors of an alien Vault, hello Vault Hunters.
If Gearbox picked up the story with only 1 or 2 years between games we’re starting to shy pretty close to a season change. Rather than re-introduce this and reminding everyone of these minute details, just fast forward a bit and age everyone accordingly.
Some Bandits and Psychos I picked out!
Tumblr media
What’s Borderlands without a Psycho?
Tumblr media
And we finally have a female Psycho!
Tumblr media
A very Daft-Punk-esque Bandit.
Tumblr media
And a... Pyro-Bandit? Pyro-Psycho? Either way he’s angry, got a couple screws loose, and wielding a flamethrower probably built by Elon Musk.
And that does it! I really wanted to give some first impressions of our Vault Hunters and out Antagonists, as well as the big deal. The fact that Lilith seems to have lost her powers... the rest will be in smaller posts or I’ll reblog this add more under the cut!
Let me know about your speculations as a “Reply” if you simply want to make a statement, if you want feedback from me / want it published be sure to send it in an “Ask”.

Museum of Mayhem Art Analysis
ahhh it’s finally here and it’s AWESOME. Lots of credit to @ifalnasminiatures for bringing this to my attention! Also credit to Hayder Hype for providing (nat zero six on gearbox forums) sources (Ashley Landry on twitter) in the description of his video because oh man it’s a lot
you can view most of these art pieces on the borderlands instagram as well
lots to talk about especially regarding the calypso twins so let us dive right in
tl;dr: tyreen has a weird red marking on her face in some old designs. i think troy used to be blind and missing his metal plates. more proof for my elpis/chemical sludge/lost legion theory that the twins are using said chemical sludge to give their followers psuedo-siren powers bc a dahl pumping station (hyperion pumping stations on pandora) but dahl had a presence on the moon
Tumblr media
one of my favorites, it reminds me a lot of the Mask of Mayhem, but for villains.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Punk Girl is shown again twice, probably further proving she’s tied in with the CoV somehow
we also got some crazy looking villains such as
Tumblr media
baby face. which is all kinds of extremely fucked up
Tumblr media
this dude who looks like he could be a miniboss with the glasgow smile and the cool goggles
Tumblr media
this guy who i legitimately thought was dr zed for a hot second there
could it be
the evilest brother?? pfft nahhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this girl who seems like she could be a unique character with a baseball cap. wondering if maybe she’s related to Punk Girl in any way. What’s the verdict on the other band members? 🤔
uhh let’s give it a solid maybe and move on
Tumblr media
this piece! very interesting to me
so, the very first thing i noticed is zane’s eye patch being on the other eye lol
amara’s tattoos are also gone, however that might’ve been for reasons similar to the japanese cover art of the game.
most interestingly is a point @ifalnasminiatures made and it’s that the calypso twins are actually palette swapped! you can see Troy is the one with the white hair and Ty is the one with the darker hair. which I think mayyy play into a few things we see later about the twins
we also see a tiny ship in the background. i can’t tell if that’s sanctuary-iii or the blue/yellow ship, it all blends together a lot due to the quality of the pic. but it is next to the calypso twins, which makes me want to believe it’s the blue/yellow ship we see with red markings all over it. you know this one from the mural of mayhem wallpapers
Tumblr media
you can see the reddish markings on the back right next to the engines
then we have ummm
this cover art
😬
Tumblr media
thanks for not using this one gearbox cuz
oh my god
she just reminds me of suicide squad, that’s not a good image you wanna dredge up from the deep recesses of your fans’ brains
she might be a unique character given the clothes/hair? cuz you don’t normally see psychos with stilettos on. or yknow, shoes in general. the hair also seems way to clean and neat to be a psycho/cultist
i just feel uncomfortable looking at this, so moving on
Tumblr media
a different logo. also not my favorite cover art, but at least im not physically uncomfortable looking at this. that poor girl’s pelvis... anyway
lots of silhouettes
interestingly, i feel like the roses might have been a thing they just put in for the new cover art. haven’t seen hide nor hair of them across any of the pictures i’ve seen.
we got a lot of figures. out of them i most definitely recognized amara, salvador, maya, another salvador?, zer0, moze (maybe?), and axton. i thiiink one of them is maya as well, but im not 100% on that.
i can guess why they didn’t pick this one: it’s hard to tell who’s who. a lot of these poses make the silhouettes kinda hard to see and the merging together at the bottom makes things even worse. i do think it’s interesting there are some bl2 characters on here as well, but hayder hype mentioned they very well could be placeholders, and given that i can’t make out fl4k or zane, im inclined to believe him.
Tumblr media
this art which was used during the promo for this event
rip elpis i guess LMAO
Tumblr media
a better look at the psycho himself from the promo released by the borderlands twitter.
there’s a new red planet which hasn’t been shown off before, looks like a gassy planet kinda like jupiter, but interestingly it has this green crack in the side?
Tumblr media
very reminiscent of pandora’s eridium scar. i am wondering if this is because this planet had a vault opened, or if it is tied to the Eridians at all. be interesting if it was their homeworld.
also i have no idea what the symbolism is in the homeworld destroying another planet but maybe we shouldn’t think about it too hard e_e
the other planet that’s being destroyed... idk fellas
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it doesn’t match up to me but like, this is only one shot
Tumblr media
i don’t know 🤔 if you really squint, maybe you can see that hint of purple at the bottom there?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here
tbh, i thought this was elpis the first time i saw it due to the cracks, but i figured elpis doesn’t have like continents across its surface, just craters. and wayyy more cracks.
so it’s probably not pandora and it’s probably not elpis.
huh...
Tumblr media
i do think the actual shot is suspended above promethea, you can see the familiar asteroid belt surrounding it
there’s also a planet in the background,
Tumblr media
which i imagine isn’t pandora bc no eridian scar
could be elpis or eden-6, or the 5th planet we don’t know about. i kinda get the feeling the 5th planet may be that gaseous red planet tho. which is probably going to be super weird to traverse now that i think about it. they said oz kits weren’t coming back, right? i wonder how that would work. hmmmm
Tumblr media
there’s also this redder planet here which i actually DO think is Pandora. if you squint real hard u can see the purple from the eridian scar. plus the color matches up pretty well with the pictures provided above.
Tumblr media
there’s also these two bodies over in the corner where the light is coming from. i can’t tell what they’re supposed to be
there are also these little dudes in the top right
Tumblr media
i assume they’re maliwan? they remind me a lot of the maliwan drop ship things that fly overhead when you enter promethea
Tumblr media
YESSS okay this is the start of some PRETTY WILD twin stuff
Tumblr media
troy: missing his tattoos, blind in one eye, has a weird mark above his eyebrow. also, no metal bits!
Tumblr media
Tyreen!!! with a red stripe across her left cheek going up to her eye??? no tattoos on her left arm as far as we can see, but that might be for marketing reasons (she’s also covering up part of her bicep). she’s also missing her coat and chains and wearing a different glove.
we also have a bunch of bl2 VHs taking up space. again i think hayder hype is right in that they’re simply placeholders. not much else to say, but
this trend of Tyreen having red markings on her face and Troy being blind in an eye (or both) actually continues through a fair amount of these posters!!!
Tumblr media
more cover art. one of my least favorites again... i just think it looks like the psycho is puking out the VHs. also, seems to be an older version of the psycho mask.
fl4k seems to be less rendered than the rest of the cast? like they have less detail, especially on their coat
also you can see an older looking space shuttle up at the top, which reminds me a lot of the one we use in TFTBL to get to helios. except less caravanny and more rockety
the splatter also reminds me of siren powers, with the purple and the glitter. it’s cool that it’s showing a different shot than what’s behind it. maybe a hint to siren powers because it’s sort of like a portal.
Tumblr media
more puke!
this time troy is blind in both eyes it seems,
Tumblr media
tyreen seems to still have a mark on the left side of her face, im wondering if this ties into her scars at all? it doesn’t seem as prominent as the previous red mark.
Zane seems to have an actual eye patch instead of his more high-tech eye patch, which reminds me a lot of the leaked character concepts from like january i wanna say
amara seems to be dual wielding lol i wonder if originally that was going to be one of her 3 skills but then they were like “wait salvador. wait. nisha. FUC-”
Tumblr media
also fl4k is being obscured by this weird saturn-like planet. let them be free!
moze is missing, the saturn like planet shows up 2 times total, and that blue/yellow ship is seen again behind troy
as for the purple stuff? you already know my theory that the twins are going to be using the chemical sludge on elpis to empower their followers. it could also just be straight eridium/slag. you know, like the testing from the WEP with bloodwing and even krieg. we’ll have to see. it would be interesting if they tied krieg into the story through there.
i do lowkey think it’s chemical sludge though, because some of it is actually glowing blue in places, you can see it clearly below amara’s feet. maybe some tie in to siren powers cuz they glow the same blueish color. who knoooows not i
Tumblr media
big shot of this psycho here, looks like he’s crumbling.
i really like the 4 VHs standing at the base with the elongated shadows. very dark vibes from this tho, probably not suitable for the series as a whole. i can see why maybe they decided not to do it.
i wonder if we’ll see this giant psycho statue somewhere on pandora. it would certainly be a sight to behold.
also i kinda wish we had cloaks like the concept art shows. cloaks are cool
Tumblr media
more sketchy art. this one is also kinda strange, i definitely get why they decided not to go thru with it.
possibly tie-in with the ‘mother’ imagery we get on the propaganda signs across pandora.
Tumblr media
lmfao the foot
very bl2 like, im glad they didn’t stick with this. i like that they decided to change things up
Tumblr media
troy seems to be blind and also missing his metal implants on his face. his jacket also looks a lot different, it looks more like tyreen’s with the spikes and stuff across it. we also can’t see his metal arm at all, tho we do see his sword! which looks a lot different, im glad they decided to revamp it to be more visually interesting lol
tyreen is more interesting to me. it looks like her right arm has like a silver coating over it? unless that is a metal arm as well. she also is wearing a different kind of glove. her tattoos are missing as well, but again, it’s probably because of the cover art. her scars also definitely seem to have reached her left cheek at some point.
Tumblr media
zane also looks a lot different, tho amara, moze, and fl4k look about the same.
Tumblr media
another shot of the ship, this one is definitely the blue/yellow one. there’s gotta be some significance with that, right? either we’re getting skins for sanc-iii, we’re going to be painting it a new color, or it’s a different ship.
what the HECK
maybe the twins stole sanc-ii and we’re using sanc-iii. idek. this ship is driving me up a wall lol
Tumblr media
gun head.
not a lot to say here. i actually like this one lol it’s very mellow and straight to the point. it’s nice that the logo is right in the middle, not at the top like most of them.
game. buy it. okay? cool.
Tumblr media
similar to the other background we did, a bit different. again, like @ifalnasminiatures pointed out, the twins are actually palette swapped here.
Zane also has the old eyepatch on his right eye instead of his left eye, and his jacket is black instead of blue. fuckin’ edgelord.
Tumblr media
one of my favorite ones out of all of them. it’s beautiful, i really wish they had kept it. Fl4k is missing but i assume they were meant to go next to Amara? i also think it’s interesting Moze is in the front, as I took Amara to be the leader this time around. Zane is also an older design, with the eyepatch back on his left eye again (starting to think this is an aesthetic thing lol) and a black jacket instead of blue.
We see the twins on the top. Tyreen has that mark on her face again, and Troy is the same as the last few covers.
We also see Maya, Zer0, and for some reason Brick? Which is weird to me considering we have a few other characters who initially feel much for important to the story (cough Lilith cough), but I’m not complaining.
the purple splatters again make me think this is a tie in to eridium/slag/elpis’s chemical sludge. i also like the logo being worked into the design instead of just thrown on top, i think that’s a nice detail
Tumblr media
i couldn’t find a great shot of this poster which is a shame because it’s one of my favorites
a lot of baddies to go around on here. i love the dude up top, he reminds me of the Anchormen from the captain scarlett dlc in bl2!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these dudes
we can see Punk Girl on the left again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this guy who appears to be in some medieval armor
i have no idea what’s going on there but i am EXCITED
i’ve been thinking and tbh i think the multiple planets thing was just an excuse for gearbox to go absolutely ham on the character designs/settings.
i mean why should they have to hold back all their medieval armor designs for another dlc like tiny tina’s? all their pirate/sea-fairing designs for a pirate dlc? fuck it! go WILD. i think they did, anywho
Tumblr media
there’s also this post which... tbh i can’t make out much at all. again, seems like an older psycho mask design. it looks like there are characters in the splatter on the bottom left, but it’s very hard to tell who’s who, especially at this angle and image quality lol
if we get a better shot later on i may return to this piece and try to figure things out!
Tumblr media
we also have this piece which is giving me huge ‘Happy Together’ vibes. very trippy
moze looks like she’s using an untextured atlas gun? dunno what’s going on with that tbh lol
i really like this one too. it’s cool. i get why maybe they wanted to go a little crazier tho, feels too simplistic for the MAYHEM vibe they’re going for.
Tumblr media
oof! can we get an F in chat for whatever planet/moon this is
lots of pink floyd vibes going on here as well
we see a different looking blue/yellow ship flying away from the explosion. it seems to missing a lot of the parts that make sanc-iii so recognizable including the engines/wings
i like the destruction vibe they’re going for here, really sells the “universe destroying power” the twins are supposedly going to get.
anyway, in addition to the cover art pieces, we also got a few concept art pieces as well!
Tumblr media
this bit which looks like a gun
you see the aiming mechanism up there? you see how it’s aimed at that planet/moon? yeah i 100% timed this so you’d see the above concept art with this immediately after :P (im kidding i didn’t but hey now you don’t have to scroll)
fuck yeah babey
we also have seen something similar to this in the gameplay trailer!
Tumblr media
i didn’t actually think it was a giant fucking GUN tho. can we get an F in chat for Promethea and/or whatever else this thing gets aimed at
Tumblr media
yooo
i thought this was opportunity at first cuz of the bridge but it’s more likely promethea
when u go meet zer0 you can see some water surrounding the city so i would guess this is somewhere else on promethea
im mostly interested in the giant fuckin triangle in the middle of that courtyard looking area
oh also the giant trench of destruction on the right there. that’s probably important, too.
Tumblr media
more concept art!
i think the bottom of the 4 VHs is actually what was leaked in january.
some art of the twins on the left there, tyreen is so much shorter than troy omfg
and this does indeed looks to be a younger version of angel so credit to @prettypinkdork for mentioning that on my angel post. it is nice to see those tech-y wings in action, definitely does prove it’s her.
Tumblr media
we can also see this art of what i think is Punk Girl, which is interesting to me because she looks to be doing something with her right hand. possible siren powers? maybe!
Tumblr media
we also get a much cooler, bigger version of that maliwan ship people were talking about, with what look to be maliwan... eye bots? surrounding it. this is soooo fuckin awesome to me because it reminds me of a sailboat. and airships are fucking COOL
but something interesting is that i don’t think this ship was actually always maliwan
Tumblr media
we got an A in the back here... for Atlas? i mean... you know it’s coming... the colors would match up. Yeahhhhhhh...
more interesting is that it actually looks like maliwan covered it up with their flags/tarps. i would not be surprised if this was claimed by maliwan possibly during the takeover.
Tumblr media
a cyclone, with a whole fuckin lot of detail. just... holy shit.
not much else to say here though. i like the stuffed animal on the side, though
Tumblr media
a better shot of jakobs manor which holy shit looks badass as fuck
big turret/observation thing on the right there? im not sure
Tumblr media
pretty sure this is eden-6. also more tropical trees? possibly a water planet? but maybe just ocean on eden-6. also there seems to be like webbing on whatever is on the road, so maybe some spider-like wildlife?
Tumblr media
most important to me is this
Tumblr media
yeah i would bet that’s eridium/slag/the chemical sludge from elpis
im pretty convinced this is something on elpis mostly because the DAHL logo on the side. which again, they were on pandora yes but they were mining for iridium not eridium. if this was pandoran pumping stations, that would be hyperion.
i do think this is elpis. and i do think the twins are using the chemical sludge that mutated the lost legion into those fake siren things to give their followers superpowers.”holy holy holy” indeed.
this, plus the rakk wings on the psycho in the mask of mayhem are just convincing me more and more
that’s all for now folks. i gotta run

Why You Might Want To Play Borderlands 3 More Than Once

Why You Might Want To Play Borderlands 3 More Than Once
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All four playable Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 bring their own distinct flavor to the game, and not just in terms of their unique skill trees. In comparison to the Vault Hunters in previous games, Borderlands 3’s Zane, Moze, Amara, and FL4K talk a lot, constantly speaking their minds and responding to NPCs during conversations. Your choice of Vault Hunter won’t impact the final outcome of the main story at all, but it will influence how you perceive certain events and understand the relationships of specific characters–encouraging you to play through Borderlands 3’s campaign more than once.
“We wanted to make sure that if people said, ‘I want to play through this game all over again with a different character,’ that they would then feel rewarded,” co-lead writer Sam Winkler said in an interview with GameSpot. “Not just in terms of different mechanics but also a slightly different interpretation of some of the stories.” The emphasis on Sirens in Borderlands 3’s plot means Amara has a vested interest in the story’s events, for instance, and FL4K–a nonbinary AI–explores their growing sexual attraction to Ellie by flirting with her every chance they have.

Having played as all four of the Vault Hunters now, I love how much each one changes how many of the interactions go. Previous Vault Hunters have rarely felt like carbon copies of each other–their unique abilities mean each one handles in a distinct way. But within their respective stories, each one typically reacts to every event in a similar way to their teammates. There’s no new insight playing as Brick instead of Mordecai or Maya instead of Zer0. So it’s a nice change of pace in Borderlands 3, and I’m already eager to see how each Vault Hunter uniquely responds to the streamer-like banter and violent habits of the Calypso Twins–especially Tyreen, a Siren whose curse-like Phase Leech ability and horrifying backstory (if true) write her as somewhat of a tragic figure.
To also encourage replayability, several side quests in Borderlands 3 contain choices, allowing you to impact the game in different ways. Don’t expect world-changing events but, for example, you can influence how certain characters will appear depending on what you do. In Borderlands 3’s prologue, for instance, Claptrap loses his antenna, and–for the rest of the game–he’ll just wear whatever you decide to give him as a replacement. “Maybe it’s a tin foil hat, or a human arm, or something else,” Winkler said.
Aside from the more vocal protagonists and additional agency in how certain side quests conclude, the story of Borderlands 3 is fundamentally the same character-driven tale of crass humor, murderous mayhem, and silly puns that defined Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Tales from the Borderlands. Almost every major character from the previous four games returns in this newest installment, though many have changed in the seven in-game years since the events of Borderlands 2. Because there’s been so much history in the franchise, Gearbox wanted to avoid making any of the previously established characters–such as Tiny Tina, Sir Hammerlock, or Ellie–into playable Vault Hunters. It was important that players were forced to use characters who had never interacted with Pandora and its inhabitants before so the story would then have to reintroduce the franchise’s lore, helping out series newcomers.
“There’s that wonderful cadence of Borderlands where the previous rounds of Vault Hunters become characters in the world, and that allows you the opportunity to learn more about them and where they’re from,” co-lead writer Danny Homan said. “But as a result, with Borderlands 3, you need a new generation of Vault Hunters because you need to see an old world through a new perspective. It’s so useful when you have a new cast who have just made their way to Pandora and they’re asking all the [expositional] questions that the players may be asking, like, ‘What the heck is a Vault? What am I doing here? Who is Lilith? Why is this robot trying to insult me and also give me stuff?'”

“We never want Borderlands 3 to feel like you have to know everything about the franchise in order to understand why a character is important,” Winkler added. “We want it to be accessible to both new and old players.” Not every bit of information in regards to past events could be fit into Borderlands 3’s early chapters though. As a result, Borderlands 2–which hasn’t seen a story expansion since 2013’s Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep–got new DLC earlier this summer, just ahead of Borderlands 3’s release.
“Our biggest goal with [Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC] was to canonize some stuff from [Tales from the Borderlands],” Winkler said. “A lot more people played Borderlands 2 than Tales, and so we didn’t want people to ask, ‘Where’s Helios?’ when they picked up Borderlands 3.”

Tales from the Borderlands is an outlier in the franchise, the only game in the series that doesn’t star Vault Hunters as the main characters and also isn’t a first-person shooter. However, it took Borderlands’ ludicrous humor to new heights, and it’s this level of ridiculousness that Borderlands 3 strives for.
“A lot of people would say ‘Don’t do an extended five-minute gunfight without any guns,'” Winkler said. “And yet Tales did it and I still see that [finger gun fight] all the time on the internet. That’s the energy we want to bring to Borderlands 3. Have people say, ‘Did you play that one thing? It’s insane.'” In this, Borderlands 3 certainly seems to fit the bill. On Eden-6 (one of the new planets you’ll visit in the game), you meet an Ice-T-voiced AI that’s been trapped in a teddy bear by its angry ex-girlfriend. The jokes that follow in that particular chapter go to places that are as shocking and unsettling as they are morbidly amusing. Borderlands 3’s story is definitely closer to the creative weirdness and pretty-much-anything-goes tone of Tales, as opposed to the unhinged attitude of the previous mainline games.

If nothing else, the story told in Borderlands 3 seems to be somewhat of an apotheosis for the franchise up to this point–rewarding fans with the answers to many of the series’ most long-standing questions. You shouldn’t expect to have everything laid bare though, as Borderlands 3 expands upon the franchise’s lore with brand-new concepts as well. “There are definitely events from previous Borderlands games that kind of reach an interesting culmination in certain ways,” Homan said. “The focus on Lilith from Borderlands 1 to Borderlands 3–there are some interesting stories that we’re telling there. People love the Borderlands universe and there are always more stories out there, and so when we’re trying to wrap up a story, we’re always trying to see new stories.” Winkler added, “Whatever Borderlands ends up looking like after Borderlands 3, I think that people will be able to look back and see one, two, and three as maybe a trilogy. But not necessarily with walls on either side of it.”
Borderlands 3 is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on September 13. On PC, Borderlands 3 has a limited-time exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store that lasts until 2020. Borderlands 3 will also be a day one title on Google Stadia, a cloud-based game streaming service scheduled to launch in November 2019.

DISPATCH, (04/05/17): Mirage Media has officially released information about visual and vocalist, Jamie Jung, also known as JJ on G-ZER0’s official website! JJ is a ‘94 liner and has been beloved by fans since his debut in 2013. Find out more about JJ below!
I, JAMIE JUNG, have read and understand the terms and conditions as my position of VISUAL AND VOCALIST and agree to honor the standards that are to be expected of me as an employee of MIRAGE MEDIA.
OOC INFORMATION
Preferred name: Dee Pronouns: she/hers Timezone: CST Other muses: n/a
IC INFORMATION
Faceclaim: Lee Hyunwoo Name: Jamie Jung Stage name (if applicable): JJ Idol concept: As JJ he was given the image of “shy sweetheart”. And it’s mostly true, being in front of people is something that’s difficult for him to do due to his anxiety. Although when the cameras are off and Jamie is with people he knows intimately his more goofy side manifests itself. Birth date and age: December 12, 1994 (22) Company name: Mirage Group Name (if applicable): G-ZER0 Group Position (if applicable): visual & vocalist Strengths: + ACTING: Although the space of an MV is usually a pretty limited space to act in Jamie takes to it pretty naturally. He generally has the least NGs in the group, a fact that he’s very proud of. + MUSICALITY: Jamie knows how to play several instruments: including piano, the guitar and the drums. It makes for a good skill to show off during variety shows but it also allows for him to occassionally put out fun things like a piano cover of one of G-ZER0′s songs. + SINGING: Although on debut Jamie was just a passable vocalist he worked hard to get his vocals to where they are today. He’s still undoubtedly better in the studio versions and when he’s standing still but he’s not nearly as shaky and breathy as he was when G-ZER0 first debuted. Weaknesses: - DANCING: A dancing king Jamie is not. Although he can pick up on choreography rather quickly it takes him time to refine it to a point where it actually looks good onstage. And due to his ongoing problems with back pain he often visibly lags behind the others in the group. - SONGWRITING: As much as he would like to learn eventually he just hasn’t had the time. He can read sheet music and successfully transpose music into a different key in order to do an instrumental cover of it but that’s about as far as his knowledge extends. Put him anywhere but in the recording booth in the studio and he’ll be effectively lost. - RAPPING: He’ll do it to elicit laughs but it’s certainly not a strength of his. He lacks both flow and the ability to come up with lyrics on the spot. Even when he knows the lyrics he still manages to get tongue-tied and trip over his words. Positive traits: friendly, upbeat, intelligent Negative traits: insecure, clingy, anxious PERSONAL HISTORY
i. his home is cold, not from the new zealand weather, not because his parents lack the funds to heat it (they have money to spare, money pouring out their ears). but because he is an accident. he’s a mistake that his parents can’t take back. so they name him jamie joohyeon jung and then promptly hire someone else to look after him.
( i.i “he’s just a kid!” “you work for me and jamie is my child not yours. i will punish him how i see fit.” “maybe you should act like a mother to him then.” “you’re fired.” “no. i quit.” )
ii. ‘we never should have kept you’. he hears the hurtful phrase early and he hears it often. the smallest of mistakes brings this reaction from both the woman who calls herself his mother and the man who calls himself his father. the boy named jamie simply ducks his small head and tries not to cry. (crying is bad, crying gets him a spanking and sent to bed without dinner). he doesn’t succeed and is sent to his room for the night.
( ii.i “you did a good job in the recital today. but where are your parents, jamie?” “they’re busy today.” )
iii. jamie is nine. his nanny is tired – too tired to be driving. jamie says he’s too old for the carseat his nanny is too tired to fight him on it. he remembers the smell of burnt rubber and the sound of squealing brakes. he remembers the world spinning and then nothing…blackness. jamie wakes up in the hospital. his mother looks mildly disappointed when jamie opens his eyes. his father is no where to be seen.
( iii.i “we don’t really know why his back keeps hurting. it’s probably nerve damage of some sort.” “he’ll live.” )
iv. jamie is fine and then he is not. sometimes it’s too long spent in the confines of a car. sometimes it’s the sound of squealing brakes. sometimes it’s nothing in particular. his heart nearly beats out of his chest, his throat is dry he feels like he can’t get a proper breath of air. “panic attacks” the doctor tells him. jamie doesn’t care what the name of it is, he just wants them to stop already. he can deal with the back pain but he can’t deal with feeling like he’s about to die every time traffic is just a little too thick.
( iv.i “has anyone ever told you that you’re incredibly good-looking?” “uh…no?” “i represent a company called mirage media, we’re always looking for new talent. you should call the number on this card.” )
v. his mother doesn’t want jamie to answer the company that scouted him on the streets of new zealand. jamie wants to be anywhere but home. his father buys the plane ticket and tells him not to come back. jamie is now sixteen and all alone in the city of seoul, south korea but he’s excited. determined even. he’s so far from home and has no back-up plans but jamie wants this so badly he can almost taste it.
( v.i “my name is ja–jung jamie. please take care of me.” )
vi. ‘he’s pretty but he can’t sing and he can’t dance so what use is he really?’ ‘he keeps missing promotions, G-ZER0 is better off without him.’ ‘he’s only in the group because he speaks english.’ he smiles through the criticisms, pretending the netizen’s words don’t dig like steel spikes at his fragile skin. he spends more time in the practice room. (longer than the maximum amount of time his contract says he should be there). he sings himself hoarse. he doesn’t tell anyone when his back is hurting him again. he pushes himself too hard, striving to at least keep up to prove he earned his spot in the group. and then one day he can’t even get himself out of bed. he feels like a disappointment even as the doctor is telling him he needs at least two weeks of rest.
( vi.i “i am fine.” “i am fine.” “i am fine.” “i am fine.” )
