Antares is an eye-catching star, shining with a distinctive bright red sparkle on northern summer evenings. Indeed, in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s a red beacon in winter evening skies. This star, also known as Alpha Scorpii, lies about 550 light-years away. It’s the brightest star in the zodiacal constellation Scorpius the Scorpion, which has figured prominently in the sky lore of ancient cultures. Antares’s nickname is the Scorpion’s Heart. Its magnitude varies between 0.6 and 1.6.

Where the Cauldon is at?

Sagittarius Alpha Star was located at the very center of the galaxy in the manga. It was the location of Sagittarius Zero Star and, by extension, the Galaxy Cauldron.

Sagittarius A*-is the supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center of the Milky Way. It is located near the border of the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius, about 5.6° south of the ecliptic, visually close to the Butterfly Cluster (M6) and Lambda Scorpii. (wikipedia)

Near the center of the actual Milky Way galaxy, there is a source of radio waves identified as Sagittarius A. Within the center of the galaxy is a supermassive black hole. It is possible that Naoko Takeuchi intended a connection between Sagittarius A and the supermassive black hole, and Sagittarius Zero Star and the Galaxy Cauldron, but nothing has been officially stated either way.

Tiago Henrique McGowan is Fùěr (also known as Sigma Tauri) meaning Whisper, because this star is marking itself and stands alone in the Whisper asterism of the Net mansion. The Net mansion is one of the western mansions of the White Tiger, his representative animal.

Marcos Gabriel dos Santos is Sabik (also known Eta Ophiuchi), from the Arabic السابق al-sābiq "the preceding one". He's the love Auramere that came right before Tiago.

Harriet Coleman is Electra (also known as 17 Tauri). Named after one of the seven Pleiades, Electra is also the designation of a comet. By way of explanation for the fact that only six of the seven stars in the constellation were readily visible, it was said that Electra, unable to behold the destruction of Troy, hid her eyes, or turned away; or, in another version, Electra, in mourning, let down her hair, and left her sisters altogether and became a "long haired star" (i.e. a "comet"). Harry has a lot of talents that she keeps hidden behind her "cool girl" mask.

Daniel Soares Prado is Aldebaran (also known as Alpha Tauri) meaning "the follower". The star comes right after the Pleiades cluster, and it's the brightest star in the constellation Taurus. Daniel follows truth wherever he goes, not caring about the consequences.

Bloom Seong is Mukokseong (also known as Alkaid, Eta Ursae Majoris and the Seventh Star of the Northern Dipper) meaning "the most corner star". Alkaid derives from the Arabic phrase meaning "The leader of the daughters of the bier", also known as the mourning maidens. By being the seventh and youngest sacred flame priestess at her temple, she is represented by this star.

Elisa Topaz is Meissa (also known as Lambda Orionis) meaning "the shining one". She's the youngest of her friend group and her energized personality is represented by this star.

A shot of the moon through the trees. I really wanted to capture the moonlight through the glass insulators on the transmission lines. About a third of the way in from bottom left is the variable double star Antares (alpha Scorpii) in the constellation Scorpius. Antares is also part of the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex, one of the most colorful and beautiful regions in the night sky. Unfortunately, what you see here, Antares at 20° is about as high as it will get in the sky. We're just too damn north.

“I managed to finish up at the Alpha site and get back here for a late dinner out in the central shaft. And I was sitting here when the clouds parted. It was dinner time by our clock, but midday on the surface above. And the light of Scorpii shone down through a translucent ceiling. But it wasn’t merely translucent. Somehow, I don’t know how, it broke the light and scattered it in arcs and rainbows, rebounding off projections on the pillars and guardrails on each level to bounce back a hundred times.

The patterns… I…I can’t describe them. I mean I’ve seen holographic images and laser symphonies and all that. I’ve seen what the human mind can conceive. And you remember what the sun setting behind the crystal structures on Vega was like. But this was something else. This was some sort of blending of nature and physics with the creativity of a conscious mind. And it elevated both.

The images changed with the movement of the sun across the sky, shifting like an old-fashioned kaleidoscope. And for, I don’t know, 20 minutes, there was nothing but dead silence in that chamber. There’d been all kinds of activity going on at levels above and below and it all just…stopped. I didn’t really notice, but people came out of the living quarters and out of the alpha site tunnel and everyone just… stood there. It was one of those perfect moments.

When the clouds came back we all sort of looked at each other. Little smiles. Then after a few moments, we all just drifted back to what we’d been doing. I had to reheat the ration pack, which made it even less palatable than it was before, but it was totally worth it. I didn’t think to get a recorder going, but you might want to check through general uploads from other members of the team in the data packet. Someone would’ve caught it.

No way that a recording could do it justice though.

And this is what we came here to learn. Something about who these people were that is much more eloquent than their technology. I mean whatever they might be able to do, or how much faster they can travel beyond light speed than us, how they can turn a planet from a storm-raging toxic permanent night to a habitable haven means nothing to me next to the knowledge I got in those 20 minutes.

I learnt something about what the Proximans think of beauty and what it means to them. I mean… they built this colony city, attached it to a ship and sent it god alone knows how far through space. It would have taken forever to construct it, not to mention the space and energy and resources that went into something this large. And they did so knowing they were sending it to burrow into a dark hole on a dark world where it would be in shadow for, who knows, fifty years at least?

But they still thought it important enough, still thought it crucial enough, to create a thing of beauty, something that can’t help but lift the spirit when you see it, against the day when they would be able to clear this sky and have the light of their new sun fall on the ceiling dome and send a well of colour and light down to what was once the darkest of places. That speaks of a people with poetry in their soul.”

Most of North America gets to see the Moon blot out Antares Thursday night. The long drought of lunar bright star occultations ends this week, as the Moon meets the bright star Antares. This event is one of the best bright star versus the Moon occultations for 2023, and is a harbinger for a series of new occultations of the star once every pass, as the Moon swings through Scorpius the Scorpion every lunar synodic period or 29.5 days. Despite the cryptic-sounding name, occultations in astronomy are simply when one object passes in front of another, blocking out the light from the more distant object. These can involve planets, asteroids, or as in this week’s case, the Moon and a bright star. In the current epoch, four bright stars lay along the Moon’s celestial path: Spica, Regulus, Aldebaran and Antares (Alpha Scorpii). The occultation of Aldebaran by the Moon in 2016. Why Occultations Are Important to Astronomy Lunar occultations can also yield useful scientific data: for example, these events can reveal close double stars seen as they wink out on the limb of the Moon in a step-wise fashion. Grazing events can be especially dramatic, as the star plays hide-and-seek along the lunar limb, revealing peaks and valleys along the Moon’s profile. The Moon is 58% illuminated, waxing gibbous during the event, contrasting with +1st magnitude Antares. All that light from Antares took 554 years to get here, only to be blocked out in the last instant. The International Occultation Timing Association (IOTA) has a list of times for the Antares occultation here. A Dark Limb Ingress Occultations during waxing phase are always particularly entrancing, as the dark limb of the Moon leads the way, obscuring the star or planet during ingress. Antares will return to view about an hour later during egress. Observers across northern Mexico and central Florida will be treated to an especially dramatic view, as Antares grazes the southern limb of the Moon. Most of Canada, northern Mexico and the contiguous United States (CONUS) sees the occultation transpire under dark skies, while Baja California and the southwestern United States sees the event in twilight. And Spica makes two. This is the first of 68 occultations of Antares by the Moon, running out to August 27th, 2028. Spica joins the lunar occultation hit parade in 2024, with 20 events running out to November 17th, 2025. How to Observe Thursday’s Occultation Antares is bright enough, that you’ll be able to see the occultation with the naked eye. Of course, binoculars or a telescope will certainly enhance the view. This sort of bright star event also lends itself to making a video recording of the occultation. A simple imaging setup might include a telescope, smartphone and phone adapter clamp. Scorpius, (Latin: “Scorpion”) also called Scorpio, in astronomy, zodiacal constellation lying in the southern sky between Libra and Sagittarius, at about 16 hours 30 minutes right ascension and 30° south declination. Its brightest star, Antares (Alpha Scorpii), the 15th brightest star in the sky, has a magnitude of 1.1. Its name comes from the Greek for “rival of Ares” (i.e., rival of the planet Mars) and was probably given because of the star’s red colour and brightness. The brightest X-ray source in the sky, Scorpius X-1, is found in this constellation.

In astrology, Scorpius (or Scorpio) is the eighth sign of the zodiac, considered as governing the period from about October 24 to about November 21. Its representation as a scorpion is related to the Greek legend of the scorpion that stung Orion to death (said to be why Orion sets as Scorpius rises in the sky). Another Greek myth relates that a scorpion caused the horses of the Sun to bolt when they were being driven for a day by the inexperienced youth Phaeton.
