im genuinely so curious, i just don't get what you see in her besides the fact that's she's hot, kinda charming and has a bit of chemistry with leighton.

I'm going to be honest, I actually thought Leighton and Alicia had more chemistry. They were so much more flirty and dancing around each other. With Tatum I felt like leight was still trying to prove herself, especially when she was showing Tatum things she enjoys and I'm so proud of her for standing up for herself. And I feel like Alicia cares more about her on a soul level, whereas Tatum was mostly in it for her looks

How is it massively different situation between Alicia reaction to the picture takedown and the republican dad dinner with Tatum? Both situation Leighton was panicking of something private being seen or known by her parents before she could tell them herself when the time is right. Only difference are the responses by the girlfriends at the time. I get breaking up knowing the relationship will not work, but putting full caps on your dating profile is childish and an extreme response of how you thought of your ex who essentially didn't do anything wrong but was scared in the closet. It not like she went out to cheat on her or was dishonest, she even try to come out a bit with going to the hotel. It just required patience and eventually Leighton would of gotten more comfortable being out the longer she settled into college life and realize she has a good support system like her roommates.

1) It was a different situation because at the time of the photo incident, Alicia and Leighton were dating. Like, in-a-relationship dating. And Leighton wasn't out to ANYONE, not her friends, not anyone on campus. Alicia was the only person in Leighton's life who knew, other than the random soccer moms Leighton had hooked up with. That's a lot of pressure to put on a partner. In contrast, by the time we meet Tatum, Leighton is already out to everyone but her parents and has been openly hooking up with girls on campus for awhile. They didn't have to hide their relationship a majority of the time they were together. The only time she ever asked for discretion was in front of her dad. And mind you, she did it much more politely this time around! I'm not saying Leighton did anything wrong by being closeted, but I'm also saying that Alicia is allowed to prioritize her own well being and not want to re-closet herself.

2) Could Alicia have handled the situation with more grace and maturity? Sure. But she's a deeply passionate person. That's like, her main character trait. She cares A LOT. Its not shocking that when she gets her heart broken, she lashes out a bit. It makes sense for her character. And I really can't fault her for having big feelings or being firm about her boundaries. It's been awhile since I've watched season one, but I assume the all caps comment is about some bit Alicia put on her dating profile after the breakup saying something about how she doesn't want to date someone in the closet? If that's the case, sorry to break it to you, but your ex is allowed to put whatever they want on their own dating profile after you break up. It's not like she was outing Leighton or name-dropping her in said profile. Leighton is perfectly allowed to stay in the closet if she wants, but Alicia is under no obligation to continue to stay in that relationship if it is not serving her. She's also allowed to be upset about the way things went down. Leighton made her feel like a dirty secret, and I'm sure that felt shitty. Again, Alicia is not a perfect person or partner, but it's not like she could have known Leighton just needed a few short months before she'd be okay with being out to her friends and family and the entire fucking campus. You can't expect someone to just wait around and HOPE that things are going to change. She's not a bad person for prioritizing herself. Which is not to say Leighton should have just come out before she was ready! The timing really just wasn't right for these two in season 1. It wasn't anyone's fault. I've been Leighton in my life before, and I've also been Alicia. It's hard to go through your entire coming out journey and do all the work you need to do to live your life as openly as possible, only to fall for someone who isn't quite there yet. One of the worst heartbreaks of my life happened because I fell for someone in the closet and realized it wouldn't work out. I'm glad it was a relatively quick turnaround for Leighton, but that's not the case for everyone. I don't blame Alicia for getting out of there when she did, and I'm glad things might still work out for them. We'll see!

I know the girlies found that blonde twincest shit hot (can't relate, though I do love Gracie and did like Tatum) but you simply aren't here for Leighton and her growth if you're mad about her not being with someone who represented the worst parts of herself. Tatum was a mirror in more ways than one and Leighton didn't like what she saw staring back.

This was perfect. This was about character development.

Everything about Leighton's story so far and Alicia and Tatum's parts in it has made sense, and I will never not show appreciation for queer characters -especially lesbians- being written with care.

Thank you, writers. This has been wonderful. She's wonderful.

Note: while this breakup didn't come out of nowhere, in my opinion, and should have been completely expected, I will concede that all that happened with Leighton in the last episode would've been better fleshed out over a few episodes. This issue with pacing could be bad writing, but I honestly haven't seen a show worth watching these last few years that hasn't struggled with pacing these short ass seasons.

bro I don’t understand why everyone is switching up on Alicia. Like yeah she told Leighton she couldn’t be with someone so closeted, but she NEVER forced her to come out. She actually said that it was ok if she never came out. She just had to respect herself and her own mental health so she ended things with Leighton. But she NEVEr said “you need to come out or we’re done” she basically said “I need to respect myself and my boundaries so we can’t do this anymore.” WHICH IS VALID. Look, I’ve had a girlfriend say the same thing when I was closeted. It’s not about forcing you out of the closet, it’s about respecting her own needs.

And as for the thing with Tatum, she never acted out of character. She says from the very beginning that she thinks school functions are lame and it is very doubtful that that will ever change. She was introduced as a doppelgänger for Leighton and she remains as such. BUT she is a doppelgänger of early season 1 Leighton. She is the Leighton who wanted to room with anyone other than the main 4. She is the Leighton that acted like a snob and thought everyone not “on her level” was lame. So it was not out of character for her to be a bitch at the women’s center fundraiser. Early season 1 Leighton would’ve acted the SAME WAY. Yes, Tatum was sweet when getting dinner with the dads, but early season 1 Leighton was sweet too, as seen by her offering to pay for Kimberly and her mother without telling anyone. However, Leighton has undergone so much transformation that now she isn’t the same judgmental bitch she once was. But Tatum is at her core because she is a callback to early Leighton.

Look, I’m not saying it wasn’t rushed, but we as a fandom should not be putting Tatum on a pedestal for being something she wasn’t. She was a judgmental bitch and we knew that from the very beginning. People were just caught by her moment of sweetness, but like Leighton says, she doesn’t know Leighton on a deeper level.
