Ngl when they sent him with Yassen to take out Max I thought maybe they weren't going to send him after Jones and I was going to be disappointed but nope its fine we're fine its all good (ep 6 is going to emotionally kill me)

Tom Harris. He went from being the stereotypical best friend character to the glue. His parents probably don't know where he is most of the time, and they don't seem to care, he idolizes his big brother in the way only a boy raised by his brother could. He's willing to give up spending time with his idol to keep his best friend safe. He's fully aware that his friends could do this without him, but as long as he's alive he makes sure they never have to. He hates museums and Spiderman, and he's bad at cool spy tricks like hopping over walls or hacking but he can keep a level head hundreds of miles from home when a ship with his best friend aboard explodes. His first instinct is to get them to safety, regardless of how much he wants to stay. He's strong enough to drag Kyra out of harm's way while she's falling to pieces. He is eternally optimistic, he doesn't give up hope that Alex is alive, and he refuses to leave him, even in a lot of emotional turmoil and physical danger. He comes up with solutions quickly, and he knows how to tie a bowtie. He eats cereal straight out of the box. He records everything because he wants to make films. He records everything to make sure that there's evidence to protect Alex this time. he has microbangs. He's Alex and Kyra's number-one hype man. He calls his best friend's guardian more than he calls his parents, he doesn't believe anyone is ever broken beyond repair. He would dress up as a pizza man and bike for miles just to hug his best friend and make a poor analogy about anchovies.

So this is my first digital art. I can't quite get the hang of faces quite yet when drawing on a tablet. When I get the skill of faces down, I'll deffo add to this but for now here's my little sketch. Not amazing but gotta start somewhere.

Rewatching that John/Yassen flashback scene and I love how calm John is, how good he is at lying and keeping a cool head to protect his cover, because of course it's what he's been doing for basically two years while he's been been Scorpia

And what he's demonstrating is basically spy skills. An assassin doesn't necessarily need to hold a conversation, they could just as well be a sniper shooting from a distance as we've seen Yassen do before and as was the case in the Amazon flashback in the book, but the fact that we see John teaching Yassen about keeping calm and keeping his cover is such a nice subtle way of already making John more spy-coded even before the reveal

SPOILERS AHOY but I only just now realized the last scene of Alex Rider S3 mimics the assassination attempt on his life in the books omg.

What Yassen said: "John never deceived me or played me"

What Yassen wanted to say: "John loved me more than you"

Tom's reaction to Alex and Kyra DID ME IN because like. Man spent the whole season lowkey trying to get them to address their feelings, he knows 100% that they're both in love with each other. He doesn't skirt around it, and he doesn't for a second pretend that he doesn't know what's up. But all it takes for him to completely lose it is a subtle handhold and Kyra gently touching Alex's face and he's all "OOOOOOOO this is wild I can't believe this, who could have possibly foreseen this outcome? certainly not me. DID YOU SEE THAT?? WhEn DiD tHiS HaPpEn? DiD yOu KnOw AbOuT tHiS?? THEY'RE HOLDING HANDS SHE TOUCHED HIS FACE" as if Alex hasn't been publicly looking at her with the most indecently embarrassingly down bad I'm in love with you eyes for MONTHS and as if he didn't know that Alex is Kyra's whole world. As if he hasn't walked in on them with Kyra's shirt off (he actually seemed less surprised and more scandalized even before he figured out what was actually going on) He's acting like Jack is a traitor for not telling him when he's made it perfectly clear he's well aware of their feelings for each other the entire time. He's out here acting like he's not the captain of this ship.

ok ok i know we all love the happy ending for yassen but let me be emotional abt Alex's happy ending in s3 ok - warning for spoilers of the book for those of you who haven't read them

i just can't stop thinking about what book!alex would say if he could just get to see that moment when Alex comes home and goes straight into the embrace of Jack and Tom, if he could see the Kyra kiss, if he could see the resignation of Alan Blunt, and the promise of Mrs. Jones, seeing Yassen explicitly saving his life more than once. It just makes me so happy and emotional that there is now a canon alternate universe where Alex didn't have to see Sarov shoot himself in the head right in front of him, where he didn't have to feel so lost and isolated and scared that he joins Scorpia and tbh looses himself for a while. An au where he doesn't have to watch Jack seemingly get murdered. Where he doesn't have to live with that guilt, carry it everywhere and then be responsible for Jack's eventual release from Scorpia. An AU where he doesn't have to get to know Ash, the only biological family he has left, only to be betrayed by him.

Book!alex seems tired to me, quite often. He must be asking "why me, why do I have to do this". But I think that if we showed him tv!alex's ending, his future prospects, like the doctor showing vincent van gogh the future at the museum, book!alex would just go "ok. I'll do it so he doesn't have to" and it is breaking and healing my heart at the same time
