Can I please ask for a smut Damon request using this picture. Imagine distracting Damon whilst he’s concentrating on a phone call to ric and he punishes you for being a naughty girl for interrupting his call and pins you to the bed . Sorry I’m just a very naughty minded girl when it comes to Damon 😜
Apologise
a/n: thank you so much for the request i loved writing this!! hope you enjoy! <3 (also, i'm so sorry it took so long)
pairing: damon x fem!reader
warnings: smut, fingering, unprotected sex
word count: 644
Tumblr media
You chuckle against Damon's skin, your lips dragging along his stomach as he squirms beneath you, his phone pressed to his ear.
You can hear Alaric's muffled voice coming through the speaker as you hook your fingers under the waistband of Damon's jeans, prompting him to curse at you under his breath.
But he doesn't make a move to stop you, only attempting to stifle a groan as he keeps his phone to his ear.
And you find yourself stifling a laugh when you hear Alaric ask if everything's okay.
"Yeah, Ric," Damon says, his voice strained as he squirms beneath you. "Everything's great. Nothing wrong here."
You find it all the more amusing by how hard he's trying to cover, despite the fact that he's practically groaning into the phone, one of his hands absentmindedly playing with your hair.
Once you manage to pull his pants off along with his boxers, you waste no time in wrapping your hand around his length, eliciting a startled sigh from him, his hips jerking into you from the contact.
"Are you sure you're okay?" You hear Ric ask him, and it makes you chuckle.
Damon glares at you as he speaks.
"Yeah, Ric, everything's fine." He assures him again, readjusting himself slightly beneath you. "But you know what, I uh─I might have to call you back."
Before you're even able to wrap your lips around him, he's threading a hand into your hair, pulling you up so that you're face to face with him now.
"Were you not aware that I was on a call?" He asks, pressing his mouth into a line as he looks at you.
"I was aware."
"Hm." He hums, twirling a finger through your hair. "What am I gonna do with you?"
Before you have a chance to offer him any suggestions, he's flipping you onto your back, his fingers snaking around your throat as he hovers over you.
"As much as I loved your hand around my dick." He smirks, his free hand trailing down your body. "You really shouldn't interrupt my calls like that."
"What're you gonna do about it?"
He doesn't offer you an answer, and instead you feel his fingers slide beneath the waistband of your jeans.
"Now, you've been a bad bad girl," he tuts, pressing a finger against you through the fabric of your panties. "And bad girls get punished."
You laugh. "And how is this a punishment?"
"Oh, you'll see." He smirks, sliding his hand inside your panties, his fingers swirling around your clit.
You sigh, throwing your head back into the pillows when he pushes a finger inside of you.
Except, he doesn't move, instead choosing to remain painfully still, a wicked smirk on his face as he looks down at you.
"Damon," you whine, looking down to where his hand had disappeared in your jeans. "Come on."
"What? I'm not doing anything."
"Exactly, you're not doing anything."
"What would you like me to do?" He asks, a knowing grin on his face as he moves his hand ever so slightly against you. "You want me to fuck you?"
"Yes," you sigh, nodding your head at him.
"Apologise."
"What?"
He smirks. "You interrupted my call. Apologise."
You continue to resist, shifting uncomfortably beneath him, but he won't let up.
"If you apologise," he says, slipping his hand out of your jeans now. "Then I'll give you what you want."
"Okay, I'm sorry," you finally say, giving in.
"That's right."
And with that, he's flipping you over onto your front, his hands already tugging your jeans off. And within seconds, he's inside you, already moving at a brutal pace as he holds you up, rough fingers digging into your ass.
"God," you moan, your mouth twisting into a smile as he fucks you. "I'm so so sorry. So sorry."
"And I forgive you."

Hi I was wondering if you could make a Klaus Mikaelson Love one shot where the reader is Carolines twin sister and also Klauses mate but Klaus don't want her to get hurt by his enemies so he spends his time on Caroline and the reader is a vampire so she can feel the mate bond and doesn't understand why he hates her so much to ignore their mate bond so she goes into depression and doesn't eat or drink blood she doesn't leave her room and she is in pain all she wants is Klaus but she thinks that Klaus doesn't want her and Caroline starts worrying about her so she gets Bonnie to do a spell to see what's wrong with herand they figure its because of Klaus rejecting her.
ends in smut only if you want to it doesn't have to!!!

Resisting the truth
The concept of soulmates wasn’t something Klaus believed in. A ridiculous theory really.
And when people claimed to have had them he took pleasure in killing one just to watch the other crumble at the sight.
Even when Rebekah insisted that Marcel was hers, he wouldn’t let them be together. It was a stupid idea and he wouldn’t condone it.
He didn’t believe it in any respect.
So when he felt that odd pull, well he didn’t know how to respond.
Looking at her, he didn’t understand. She wad his type yes but from what he could tell she was only a vampire, she couldn’t have been a witch. So he didn’t know where the pull was coming from.
Even in Alarics body he could feel it. At first he thought the teachers body was attached to her but then he bumped into her in his own form and the attraction was even stronger.
Klaus didn’t like new things and didn’t like feeling things but he also knew if he killed her now then the bloody Salvatores would retaliate and most likely would grab their precious doppelgänger and run. So he left her be but kept a close eye on her.
Following her when he got the chance and learning things about her while trying to find out what kind of trick she was playing on him. She was meant to have been used for the sacrifice, first Caroline replaced her and then Jenna.
And then once he left Mystic Falls with his good friend Stefan, for whatever reason, all he could thing about was her.
Countless dreams haunted him and the urge to draw her face was driving him close to insanity. To begin with he thought perhaps killing her was the best option and then Stefan had to go find Klaus’ stash of sketches of his dear friend Y/n’s face and decided to tell Klaus all about her.
And somehow, hearing about her made him feel less crazy. He found himself asking pointless questions and listening to stories from Stefan. Until of course one of them realised that they were talking about her a little too much and they both awkwardly avoided the topic.
Having her walk straight into him yet again at senior prank night only made his thoughts worse. He loathed how his body reacted so quickly to her, just one inhale of her freshly washed hair and his dick was pressing up against his jeans. His hand grabbed both her arm and the doppelgänger’s before dragging them both back to the main hall. He proceeded with his plan as normal with minimal glances to the girl although he could feel her eyes on him the entire time.
He was entirely unaware she could feel the bond just as well. But she was less cautious about it, she was a teenager and experiencing new feelings. Ones she didn’t understand but she wasn’t a paranoid control freak so she leaned toward the feeling rather than away.
In fact she even followed him occasionally. When she had nothing better to do and wasn’t needed by the group, she tried to dig into his persona. But he was a difficult man to pick apart and she often just went back home when she got bored.
Sometimes she tried to talk to him, or just smile at him but he wasn’t the easiest to communicate with unless he was running the conversation. And she often felt like she was just annoying him so she tried to leave him alone but something just kept leading her back to him and she found it easier to go with it than resist it.
He found her a bit of a nuisance but at least she was a pretty one. And the more she was around him the more he warmed to her. The more beautiful he found her and the dirtier his dreams got.
Eventually he couldn’t handle the amount of time he was spending fucking his own hand and made his way to a witch formation. Only to be faced with the impossible truth.
And then he saw her in a different light. She had both a target on her own back and his back. So he did the one thing he knew how to do really well, push her away.
And god did he push hard. Ignored everything she did or said, avoided her like the plague.
He assumed she had a silly little crush on him and nothing more but he didn’t know she was taking the rejection of the bond so harshly.
Being a vampire it was massively increased and quite frankly it was soul destroying.
He didn’t see the way her skin was greying;the emptying of her eyes. He wasn’t there to see how her mother had to cradle her in bed like she were a small child again. The look in Caroline’s eyes as she tried to get her sister to be excited for their birthday.
What was even more cruel was Klaus coming over to her house to heal Caroline without even checking on her. Giving her twin sister a birthday present but not her? He never spoke to Caroline before, how could they possibly have formed a better friendship than them?
Had she entirely misread everything? Had he not smiled at her with that same look in his eye? Had he not initiated flirtatious interactions and inched closer to her?
She didn’t feel the hunger she used to feel for blood, almost as though it weren’t appetising at all any more. Repulsive even.
Caroline worried beyond relief as she witnessed her sister fading right before her. Stefan and Damon couldn’t get her to eat, Elena and Bonnie couldn’t entertain enough to get her out of bed, nothing was working.
Not until Bonnie offered to do a spell, with Liz’s reluctant permission she performed it to find what was wrong. And the answer both shocked the group and sort of made sense. They had all noticed at some point the strange need they had for each other. But through Damons research in the past when he believed Katherine was his soulmate, he knew what the ultimate result of a rejected mate could be. And as much as he hated Klaus, y/n was like a little sister to him and if she needed him for a little bit then he would push back his revenge for a moment. Plus it would put him in Elena’s good books and Liz’s.
So he let Caroline go and beg Klaus to save her sister.
Klaus wasn’t sure how to respond when Caroline came in with a white oak stake held to his chest while she yelled every offensive word she could at him. He had her by the throat quickly, throwing her off and to a wall but she was straight back at him. Screaming at him asking how he could have done this.
And after a very long back and forth argument, he realised what he was doing to the Forbes girl. But he wasn’t exactly sure how to react.
He knew he was no good for her, he would only be the cause of her death but apparently he would be that anyway. Which he found to be ridiculous but whatever.
But the second Elena let it slip to Rebekah that her brother had a soulmate, she had him by the hair dragging him to the Forbes residence and forcing him inside. Caroline and Liz left the house and Locke them in, despite Klaus being able to break it down.
While in there he couldn’t help but feel the forceful tug towards her room. Her heartbeat was so weak and her scent was fading. He tried to resist the pull like he had forced himself to for so long but hearing her pain filled whimpers as she shifted onto her side had his leg bouncing. Her dry coughs and groans had his teeth biting at the skin around his fingers and finally when she gave a cry out for her sister he got up to go and see her.
His heart hurt seeing her halfway desiccated and he reluctantly came to sit at the edge of the bed. Her eyes were heavy as she peeked up at him, her brows furrowing before a sadness filled her
“Are you here to kill me now?” She rasped and he frowned
“No my dear, no I won’t be killing you” he whispered, he felt bad now that hr had considered doing so in the past but better knowing that he no longer desired to.
“Why not?” She asked confused “you don’t want a soulmate…” she trailed but neither of them said anything because they both knew she was right, he never had wanted a soulmate.
She nodded weakly, sighed softly and relaxed back against the bed. He hesitantly shifted further into the bed, gently pulling her a little closer so her head lay on his lap.
Slowly he brought his fingers to her hair, just gently stroking her as he silently went over his options, wondering what was truly best for each of them in this scenario.
Would she really be better of with him as a soulmate?

Shopping or Babysitting?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flufftober, October 10th
Female vampire reader x Josie Saltzman x Hope Mikaelon x Lizzie Saltzman
Summary: You guys go shopping and you and Josie end up more like babysitters
Warnings: swearing, other than that just cute and funny and fluffy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why the hell does Alaric need all this shit again?" You groan while pushing a shopping cart around Bells grocery store.
"Something about a fire happening in the kitchen and burning all the food and the counters and cabinets, everything really" Josie answers, feeling the same way as you. She places a carton of blueberries in the cart.
"Ooh, we should get whipped cream" Lizzie says, walking over to the refrigerators. "It's not on the list" Josie calls after her twin.
"Wait, where's Hope?" You look around all the displays from where you're standing. Your eyes land on the auburn headed girl distracted by rearranging an end cap shelf of pancake mixes.
"You know what, how about you grab a box, and Lizzie, you can get one can of whipped cream" you sigh, calling out to them both. Josie looks at you with a confused look on her face.
Hope and lizzie come back with their item and place them in the cart beside eachother.
"Now, if you both don't get distracted and we get the hell out of here quickly, then I'll make vampire pancakes for all of us. Got it?" You explain and look at them as if they're children.
They both excitedly agree right away. "Good idea" Josie whispers to you and you nod your head, agreeing.
"What's next?" Hope asks. Josie looks at the list in her hand "uhhh, tortilla chips. Wow, now that I look at this list, it had the most random order" Josie answers and tilts the list over for you to see. "Huh, it does. Almost as if Jackass just wanted us out of his hair" you say as you turn the cart into the chip isle.
"You know he's my dad, right?" Josie says, trying not to chuckle at how you casually talk about him in such ways. "Oh, I know, but you've got to agree that he's a dick most of the time" you tell her, keeping a close eye on the other two teens in front of you both.
"Hey! Put those down, we're down here for tortilla chips, not any of those" you exclaim, making Josie look at what's in their arms. "How did you guys grab that much so fast?" Josie lightly chuckles. Lizze and Hope have their arms full of different chip bags. They have small pouts on their faces while you make them put the bags back on the shelves.
"Wait, do we still get the pancakes?" Lizzie asks when they walk back over to you and Josie. "On one condition" they both nod. "You each have to have on hand on the cart for the rest of the time we're here" you cross your arms.
"We're not five year olds!" Hope exclaims, Lizzie agreeing with her. "Do you guys want the pancakes? Yes? Then one hand on the buggy at all times" Josie raises an eyebrow.
"Fine" they both mumble, taking a hold of the cart on either side.
You guys walk out to your car with the shopping bags in your arms. Once you place everything in the trunk, Lizze and Hope start to have an argument. Over what? You and Josie have no idea.
"I'm starting to feel like more of a babysitter than a personal shopper now" you sigh. "Glad I'm not the only one" Josie closes the trunk. You open one of the back doors to the car. "Okay you two, shut up and get in or no pancakes and I mean it. And if you're really good during the forty minute drive, then maybe we can watch Harry Potter" you nod for ghem to get it.
"Okay, Mom" lizzie says jokingly, and Hope nods her head. They both climb in the back and start doing up their seat belts when you close the door.
"Remind me to never have kids" you groan. Josie chuckles, "Same here" she says, making you chuckle as well.
You both get in the car, and the drive back was surprisingly peaceful.
Once you get back, you guys bring all the groceries inside and to the slightly charred kitchen. "And you guys paid for it using the card I gave?" Alaric asks, stepping into the kitchen.
"Sure we did" you roll your eyes, sliding things onto a shelf in the fridge. "What did I say about compulsion" he grits his teeth.
"Oh fuck off about that, compulsion is way easier, plus no money was spent, you're saving money" you throw the credit card to him.
"Don't fall into the trap, Dad, we both know you'll lose" Josie says, closing one of the pantry doors. Alaric groans and leaves the four girls alone again.
"Hey! Why did you get to go against the rules and not get in trouble?" Hope asks from where her and lizzie are sitting on one of the counters. "Because I'm older then all of you, and Jackass" you answer them. "...fair enough" Hope mumbles.
"Pancakes?" Lizzie perks up. "Of course, you two weren't horrible, so it wasn't that bad" you get all of the ingredients and materials onto the counter you and Josie are standing at.
"All you guys have to do, is stay there and don't touch or try to help with anything" Josie says, getting a mixing spoon from a drawer. Hope and Lizzie can't cook for the life of them, so it's best to keep them far away as possible whenever you and/or Josie are cooking or baking.
"Alright, here you guys go" You and Josie hand Hope and Lizzie their plates, the opening credits of Harry Potter playing on the screen. "Thanks" they both say, already entranced into the movie.
The pancakes all have a smiley face out of blueberries, and vampire teeth made from the whipped cream. Something you annoyed Damon with until he gave up and then he started annoying Bonnje with eventually in the prison world. (Yes, you teased him endlessly when Bonnie told you about it).
"You know, we're a pretty good team" Josie sits beside you. You wrap am around her shoulders, your plate in your lap. "Hell yeah we are" you kiss her on the cheek, playfully.
"Gross" lizzie icks. "Yeah, we're right here" Hope swallows some pancake.
"Yep, never having kids" you mutter under your breath. Josie hears and chuckles, making you smirk.
Winter Garden
Tumblr media
ღMy Third contribution to the tipsy drabbles~
ღPairing: Gardener! Yeosang × Lady of the house! Reader (f)
ღGenre/Trope/Au: smut, forbidden lovers, power dynamic couple, historical au
ღWord Count: 507
ღRating: 18+ MDNI
ღWarnings: public sex, penetrative sex without a barrier, pullout game, dick-drunk, hidden affair
ღSummary: your affair with your gardener was fulfilling, exhilarating, and most importantly, a secret
Tumblr media
When you had decided to go for an early morning walk today you had not expected to be currently fucked up against the ivy covered wall of your mansion.
Your illicit affair with the groundskeeper of your large estate was perhaps not the smartest decision you had made but it was certainly fruitful. Especially since Yeosang was hitting the inside of you just right.
“Yeo-yeosang,” You whined, gloved fingers clutching the dead vines in front of you. It was still late winter and you could see your breath in the air like tiny clouds.
Yeosang grunted behind you, more concerned with his thrust game and keeping your skirts up than curious as to why exactly you were whining his name. You said it again with more urgency, especially as his pace behind you quickened.
“Don’t--” You paused to swallow. “Don’t come inside of me!”
Yeosang chuckled deeply behind you. “Would you like me to make a pretty rope of my cum on your ass?”
You were struggling to focus now, the pleasure emanating from your lower half encompassing most of your thoughts. You choked on a gasp as Yeosang began to hit the end of you with his enthusiasm to chase his orgasm. All you could manage in response was: “Please.” Pitiful, but still got your point across.
The tiny hat perched on the side of your head, with the half veil to shade your face from the sun, was starting to slide out of its bobby-pin hold with the way that Yeosang was fucking you so good. His noises began to crescendo, a rough and warm groan eagerly slipping from his red lips.
Your orgasm hit you first, exploding in a cry that Yeosang had to quickly mute with his hand over your mouth. Your eyes fluttered closed so that you could drink in the pleasure painting your nerves. Yeosang came soon after, having delivered you to yours, he pulled out and came messily all over your ass. Yeosang allowed his hands to rest on the plumpness of your ass, fingers digging into the flesh as he came down from his high.
You were panting and attempting to catch your breath when Yeosang pulled your skirts down with alaricity. “Ah--Jongho, what brings you out here so early?” Yeosang said cheerfully.
Jongho eyed your rosy cheeks and the spark in Yeosang’s eyes. “You’re up to something. I just know it.”
Yeosang shrugged his shoulders. “I was just asking for an opinion of the shrubbery shapes.”
You attempted to not squirm at the icky feeling of Yeosang’s cum rapidly cooling on your skin. You nodded first to Yeosang, then to Jongho, the butler, and dashed off with a fistful of your skirts held high in the air. “Good Day, Gentlemen,” You said curtly.
Perhaps you could catch Hongjoong after he finished making the bread for the day to distract yourself from the fact that you almost got caught by Jongho while Yeosang fucked you within an inch of your life and that you had skipped breakfast for it.
The Agreement
kai parker x reader | requested by @chocolatepalacecloudhoagie back when i asked for fluffy prompts bc i was having a hard month
summary: helping kai adjust to a normal life has its ups and downs, but he, of course, always wins in the end.
tags: domesticity, adjusting to normal life, lots of comfort & cuddling, gemini coven lore, minor indirect mention of abortion where kai's being a dick, but he's mostly soft in this fic, bartender!kai, mentions of alcohol, minor bar fight, minor mention of assault, accidental murder, protective!kai, protective!damon, bonnie is kinda mean in this one, damon secretly wants to be friends with kai, angst & fluff ish
word count: ~9.9k
a/n: this is so cheesy and somewhat choppy but bare with me 😅
Tumblr media
You, Damon, and Bonnie have made a deal. Neither will kill Kai, as long as you can help the witch settle into a new life in Mystic Falls. Those are the terms made, and boy, are they hard to get.
“You can’t fix him, Y/N. He’s beyond fucked up,” Bonnie scoffs, “and I don’t want to be partly responsible if I were to make some crazy deal with you that goes wrong.”
“I just want him to try and have a normal life, Bon. He spent twenty years in an abusive household and another twenty years in isolation. He has no idea what normalcy is.”
“By the sound of that, he’s too far gone for you to even try.”
“Just give me a chance to work with him!”
“I don’t even like you being with him! He’s going to hurt you, and I don’t want that to happen to you.”
“I haven’t given him a reason to hurt me, Bon.”
“He doesn’t need a reason. He just does things.”
“Well, in that case, I’ve given him a reason not to hurt me. I’m the only one willing to try and help him adjust.”
“Y/N-”
“I see the point you’re making, Y/N,” Damon interrupts his best friend, “but are you really going to put all this work in for him? Seriously?”
“Yes! I don’t get why you guys are so against this. I’m helping you out; I’m giving you one less person to worry about that could raise hell in this town.”
“He already has-”
“Bonnie, please.”
“It would be easier to just kill him.”
“Bonnie!”
“Look at him! He’s plotting right now! No one is quiet for that long unless they’re plotting something.”
You sigh and turn to follow her gaze. Kai is sitting on a barstool, in the room of the boarding house that’s surrounded by windows, watching snow fall.
“He’s just observing!”
“Sure he is.”
“And he’s probably trying to tune out this conversation, too. I’d be, if people were talking about me, and two of them wanted to kill me.”
Bonnie gives you a hard glare.
“Four months,” Damon says suddenly.
“What?”
“You have four months to get him settled.”
“Don’t give me a deadline. It took you longer than four months to stop killing people when you got back to town. And the only reason you did is because Elena finally fell for you. But then every time she dumps you, you kill people again.”
“Thanks for the summary.”
“My point is, I might need longer than four months. I can start with the killing stuff first, teach him he can’t do that, but getting him on his feet might be some work.”
“Easy. Pull the chair out, he’ll figure it out.”
“Damon-”
“I know what you meant. Fine. Six months max. If he’s still (A) killing people, (B) in my house every time I come down for a cup of coffee, or (C) a complete and utter basket-case, by that time, then he’s,” Damon makes the gesture of a throat being slit, “done. No more killing, no more kidnapping, no more terrorizing. Got it?”
“Fine.” You roll your eyes at his insistent face. “Got it.”
“In return, I, nor Bonnie, will kill him unless you take longer or he goes off the rails.”
“You guys do you know you can’t kill him, right? If he dies, so does Jo, so does Liv. Alaric will never speak to you ever again.”
Damon hesitates, but Bonnie already seemed to have an answer to that prepared. “Don’t think I won’t toss him back into 1994, or make a new prison world entirely, if I need to.”
“Bonnie-”
“But if you think you have him under control, you don’t need to worry about that now, do you?”
You sigh, then look over to Kai. He’s still turned towards the window, but you don’t doubt he’s listening. “No, I don’t.” You straighten your posture. “And you won’t need to worry about him, either.”
“Alright, Ms. Confident,” Damon mocks, “guess we have a deal. You have six months to get that weasel somehow adjusted to real life, and we won’t kill him, or throw him in a prison world.”
“Nor will you antagonize him for fun, Damon, which I know you like to do.”
“I do not-”
“Mason Lockwood. John Gilbert. T-”
“Alright! Fine. Bonnie and I will stay out of your way while you work on your little project.”
“I’m going to prove to you he can be good. Just mind your own business while I do it.”
“Fine.”
“Deal?”
“Deal.”
Two minutes later, you gather Kai and hurry out the door.
“Did you hear all that?”
“Yeah. I’m on thin fucking ice.”
“Mhm.” You then grab his arm before he can slip on real ice right outside the boarding house.
The pair gave you a rather strict set of rules to follow, and Kai’s surprised you didn’t give up on him just hearing the terms. He makes sure to thank you on your way to the Grill, where you’re headed for coffee. He hopes he sounds genuine, but still tends to struggle with that stuff sometimes. You, being the loving person you are, give him a smile and a kiss to the cheek in return. You then walk hand-in-hand to the restaurant, where you plan to carefully explain a few places you’ll help him start.
Two coffees and a lava cake later, you catch his attention.
“So, this is a bad example.”
“What do you mean?” He looks up at you, chocolate syrup dripping from the side of his lip.
You reach out to wipe it off, then lick it off your own finger. Kai then wipes off the rest with his napkin, the little that you missed. He smiles at your lack of hesitancy to reach out to him.
“It’s like, five o’clock-ish, and our dinner shouldn’t be dessert-”
“This is your influence. I fed myself properly when I was locked up.”
“Oh really?” You ask with a sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, actually, I did. And in fact, the first time I met you, you were in this very same seat, with Caroline, eating a lava cake.”
You narrow your eyes at him. “Fine.”
He smirks at his win.
“So you cook. You need somewhere to do it.”
“Like?”
“An apartment, maybe?”
“I can just move in with you.”
You bite your lip. You love Kai, but you’ve only been dating for three months. Of course, he’s spent days and slept over before, but it might be too early for the ‘moving in together’ stage. “You could,” you start, “or we could find you an apartment close-by. So you can get a little bit of autonomy, figure things out for yourself. Have a place to get away, if you need.”
“I don’t think I’d need to get away from you,” he chuckles.
“I certainly hope you won’t, but, I don’t know, I think it’ll be good for you to have your own place. Just for a little while.”
“Do you not want to live with me?”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying! I’d love to, but it might be just a little too early for that. And I really think you’d benefit from having your own space. I’ll help pay rent for the first few months. Well, unless you want to go to college? Live in a dorm?”
“At Whitmore?”
“Anywhere.”
“But you live here.”
“Yes.”
“And you’re not in college.”
“No.” You’re not sure where he’s taking this.
“I don’t want to be away from you. I don’t even want to live away from you.”
“You live away from me now.”
“That’s different. At least in the boarding house, there’s people.”
“People who have no qualms about killing you, Kai. What’s this actually about?”
“I don’t want to be alone!” He finally admits. A few people look over from the shout, but you wave them off. “I was alone for eighteen years, I can’t take it anymore!”
“Kai, there are other people in apartments, too.”
“But not in the same room! They’re all in locked doors. I’ve seen plenty of shows. Besides, what if the time away makes you not want to be with me anymore?”
“What?!” You ask, genuinely surprised.
“You’re the only person that cares about me. What if space apart makes you not?”
“Baby, that’s not going to happen. I’m not going to stop loving you just because you move into an apartment.” You lower your voice, recognizing your conversation has an audience of three old men. “We’re apart now,” you repeat, “and I still love you. A couple minutes apart, even less time than our distance now, isn’t going to change that.”
“I still don’t want to be alone, Y/N.”
“Tell you what… we’ll find you one in the same building that I’m in, maybe even the same floor. We’ll be two minutes apart at most. You can come find me at any time; I’ll give you a key.” You reach out to take his hand. “When we’re dating for longer, we can talk about moving in together, but for now, I really want you to try living on your own. Please? We have to prove to Damon and Bon that you can, or you know what they’ll do. Do it for me, so I can keep you safe, okay?”
Kai bites his lip. “Okay. Same floor.”
“I think the woman across the hall is moving out anyway.”
He nods.
“Besides, I don’t want you too far from me, either.” You wink. “Who else is going to cook for me?”
He smiles at your first comment, but at the second, pushes your hand playfully. “See, you admit I can cook.”
“Never said you couldn’t!” You pause. “So that’s a definite ‘no’ on the college thing?”
He nods. “First of all, you wouldn’t be there. Second, I don’t care for the college experience that’s so hyped up in movies. Third, I’ve read thousands of books while being locked up. If I wanted to study one thing really intently, I either already have, or I would’ve.”
“Okay then.” Obviously, his mind is made up. “Sounds good.”
You both eat a few more bites of the cake, then he crinkles his nose. “I know you’re gonna say it sooner or later, so I might as well ask now… are you gonna make me get a job?”
The cynical look on his face makes you want to laugh, but you manage to hold it in. “Yep.”
“Crap.”
“It doesn’t have to be something crazy. Hell, you could work here. Be a bartender or something.”
“Do I have to work with people?”
“I thought you just said you want to be around people?”
“Not stupid people, though. Y’know, like the what-you-call-Karen types that would make me want to wring their neck.”
You chuckle. “Baby, that’s a type of person difficult to avoid. Any job is gonna have its fair share of annoying people. Unless you deliver mail, or something.”
“What’s that require?”
“Valid driver’s license.”
“I have one of those.”
“Valid?”
“Made it myself, but it got me through airport security.”
You sigh. “Can you drive?”
“Yes. Taught myself.”
“Would you pass a test?”
“I don’t know. But I drove BonBon from Mystic Falls to Portland without killing her.”
“Lower your voice when you say stuff like that!” You warn again, waving off a man.
Kai seems to ignore you. “Though half of that trip, we did fly…”
“You flew a plane?”
“Had eighteen years to learn!”
“Okay. Let’s get off this topic. You spend so much time in this grill, it might be a good place to start. As long as you show up, do your best, and don’t,” you lower your own voice, “spike people’s drinks for fun-”
“I would never!” He fakes offense.
“-I think you’d be good.”
The boy takes a sip of his coffee. “Fine. Just for you, I’ll try it.”
“Great! I’ll talk to Matt.”
“Ugh.”
“And don’t mention that you killed the manager, because they never found out who did that.”
“Noted.”
“And he’s besties with the Sheriff.”
“Great. You don’t want me to work here for an extra set of eyes on me, do you?”
“No, ‘course not. You’re my sole responsibility, I don’t want Matt involved at all. I just think you’d be a good bartender.”
“Okay.”
“And you like it here, so you might be more comfortable here.”
“What are the odds you could work here, too?”
“I have a job.”
“You could quit it and work here.”
“Kai…”
“Fine. Talk to Matt.”
“Okay.” You stand up to find the other boy. “Stay here.” You kiss his head as you pass him, then head to the bar.
Kai stares into his coffee while you wait by the bar. He likes the Grill, but doesn’t know about working in it. The customers around him are often annoying, and he doubts his ability to remain patient with them. Still, you made a deal to keep him safe, and if his two little prison world friends are going to uphold their end, the two of you have to keep yours. He sighs, then turns to find you. You’ve caught hold of Matt, but as you seem to explain the situation, he rolls his eyes. Kai bites his lip. He has to make this work, for you, even if he doubts his own ability to fit into the world.
As you turn to look at him, he looks away abruptly. A minute later, you return to your seat.
“How’d it go?”
“He’s gonna give you a chance… on one condition.”
“Which is?”
“If I’ll work here, too.”
The boy’s eyes light up. “Really? I thought you said I should do it myself.”
“Well then scratch that. It’ll be more fun together anyway.”
Kai smiles before growing serious again. “So apartment, job… anything else to cover?”
You’re quiet for a moment. There’s a lot more to cover, but you’ve just tackled two of the biggest factors when it comes to normalcy, and you don’t want to overload the poor boy. So instead of bringing anything else up, you shrug. “We can tackle it later. For now, let’s finish this cake.”
Grateful, he nods. He knows, not only from Bonnie and Damon, that there’s a lot more expected of him than just housing and working. He’s lucky he has someone that understands that. “Okay.”
“Okay,” you reply back.
*****
For the next couple nights, Kai stays with you until you can secure a room for him in your apartment complex. Turns out Ms. Mary White had moved out just recently - wanted to find a complex with fewer stairs - and Kai would be able to move in by the end of the week.
Of course, that process doesn’t come without its own issues. A key piece of information required for renting an apartment is proof of one’s identity. When Kai is asked to present his, he stares blankly at your landlord.
“Uh, I think my father has it in the attic of my childhood home.”
“Well can you call him?”
“He probably burned it,” Kai mutters.
Your landlord’s eyes quickly widen at the same time yours do. Your boyfriend’s blunt honesty is quite fatal for the situation; your landlord does not need to know about his abusive childhood, nor the crimes Kai had committed over twenty years ago. One Google search could quite possibly open a whole can of worms you aren’t ready to contain.
In the following two seconds after that, you dial Caroline’s number.
Luckily, the vampire comes to your aid. She compels the man into forgetting both the conversation, and his need for any proof of identity. She seals his spot in the apartment, and simultaneously, in his new life.
As Caroline then helps the two of you settle in, Kai catches her attention.
“Why did you help me?”
The blonde faces him. “Well… for one, Y/N cares about you. If she sees good in you, and the ability to change, to be better, then I trust her. Two, I do owe you for helping my mom. She’s healing, slowly, ever since you siphoned the vampire’s blood out of her system, and I never fully thanked you for that. And third… I know someone like you. Someone who came to Mystic Falls, and wrecked absolute havoc, but for some reason, he had a soft spot for me. I was used in all of the plans they would make to distract or ‘neutralize’ him, and with time, it worked. He got better. He’s an ally now. A friend, even.”
“So Y/N is like you, and he’s kinda like me. You see that happening? You can see me getting better?”
“Klaus did.”
Kai swallows. It means a lot to hear someone other than Y/N have faith in him. “Thank you.”
“All I’m saying is prove them wrong. Damon’s an ass sometimes. And remember, he was the villain too, a while back.”
“I heard some stories from them back in the prison world.”
“Well they probably didn’t even cover half the stuff he did. Trust me, Damon has no room to judge.”
Kai nods.
“Text me if you guys need help with anything else. Kai, good luck. Treat Y/N well.” With a smile, she’s gone.
“Klaus,” Kai repeats.
“You’re not half as bad as Klaus,” you inform him, “killing-wise, I mean. That thing is a thousand years old and has killed probably five times more people than his age.”
“She said he got better.”
“He did. Still kills, obviously, but he is a friend to us now.”
He nods again, processing the information without replying.
You spend the rest of the evening settling him in with the little stuff he has. Most of his belongings are clothes, and whatever else is either from 1994 or stolen somewhere along the way. You have some extra furniture in your apartment, and earlier that day, bought him a comforter. It’s enough to live, and he seems fine with it. Besides, you both know he’ll be in your apartment most of the time, anyway.
*****
A couple days after that, you start your new jobs at The Grill. You’re only part time, considering you’re already a dedicated employee elsewhere, and Matt’s fine with that as long as you “watch him” at least most of the time. The boy is clearly not excited about the reformed serial killer joining his work team, but at the same time, Matt’s not one to turn down anyone looking for a fresh start.
At first, he keeps Kai in the back, away from people. A smart move while he still adjusts. He’s mostly tasked with filling drink orders and cleaning up, and only after he’s been working in the restaurant environment for a week is he actually allowed to hand people their orders. So far, he’s incident-free, but you can tell Matt is just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
His heart almost stops the day he sees Damon enter on a day he has Kai serving drinks.
Matt rushes to the back, trying to find you to take over before the vampire can saunter over to the bar.
“Bourbon. Neat.” Damon says to no one in particular.
Kai swallows hard at the sound of the man’s voice, but then stands up to pour him the drink. As he passes the glass to him, Damon’s attention turns from the distant game of billiards to the unidentified bartender.
“Oh.” He blinks in surprise. “It’s you.”
“Yep, I am working here now.” Kai enunciates every word, still in disbelief that he does.
“Gotta say I’m shocked. Had any urges to kill anyone yet?”
“No, it’s been mostly tame. There was one lady the other day who was so drunk, she fell out of her chair, but that was more amusing than anything else.”
Damon snorts. Part of him wishes he could have witnessed that, but he’ll be damned if he admits that to Kai. “And her inconsiderate ways didn’t have you tempted to toss a glass at her head? Maybe you are improving.”
Kai bites his tongue. He knows Damon’s just trying to get under his skin, and the bar is too busy for him to react. Besides, one wrong move and the vampire will call off their deal.
Luckily, a heartbeat later, you pop around the corner from the kitchen.
“Hey, how’s it going?”
“Your little pet served a drink.” He takes a sip. “Ten points to Slytherin for getting my order correct.”
“Be nice, Damon. I’ve never seen you attempt to get a job.”
“Why would I need a job? I’m a vampire, if you haven’t forgotten. I don’t need money, and I don’t need to buy food-”
“Because you just eat people? Right. And you do buy food, let me remind you, and drinks, on a daily basis, which requires money. But since your nephew - whom you killed - was rich, you don’t need to work for anything. So no, you don’t need a job, but if you were born into a less rich family, you’d certainly need to, to support your hobbies.”
“Touché.”
You shrug. “I’m just sayin’.”
Damon glares at you, sips the rest down in one gulp, then spins the glass back to Kai. “Refill.”
Knowing you’ve won, you give your boyfriend a kiss to the cheek as he pours another glass. You’re halfway back to the kitchen when Damon clears his throat,
“I could report you for PDA.”
“Try me.”
He doesn’t.
That night, you praise your boyfriend for keeping his cool under the unexpected presence of Damon. Truth be told, you hadn’t even considered the man’s frequency at the restaurant when you spoke out for Kai to work there; you only thought about where he’d be most comfortable. Kai admitted he started pushing buttons, but your interference diffused the situation immediately. You give him a kiss, then snuggle into his chest, legs over his as you sit in his lap. Kai grabs you before you can get too comfortable, turning your cuddling into a make-out session. Unlike his shift at the bar earlier, things escalate pretty quickly.
*****
Weeks pass of coaxing Kai into a normal life. He’s doing well despite the cards handed to him, and you’re sure to tell him how proud you are each night. There have been a few instances where he’s yelled at customers who’ve yelled at him, and then he had to muster up an apology to them. On two occasions, you’ve traded places with him, seeing either Damon or a crowd of college kids approaching the bar. But though he’s had a few mistakes, he’s received compliments, too.
One woman, a regular, and very picky about her cocktails, told him she’s impressed with his ability, especially given his age, and that he makes some of the best drinks she’s had. She always leaves a good tip, and has made sure to tell the manager what she said to him.
Kai only gave a dimpled smile and a polite, “thank you,” and decided not to tell her he’s actually in his forties, and had nothing better to do for eighteen years than craft cocktails.
“See,” you then said to him, “I knew you’d be a good bartender. I didn’t even know you could make cocktails.”
“I couldn’t tell if she was hitting on me by the end of the night,” is all he replies.
You scrunch your eyebrows, but then widen your eyes at the fifty percent tip. “Yeah, maybe just a little.”
*****
As much progress as he’s made, he’s not done yet. Kai’s had about three months of getting on his feet, and now he has to address a big issue that both of you have been avoiding. On a calm night neither of you had work, you decide it’s now or never to bring it up.
So, laying across his lap again, you fiddle with the ring on his finger as a show you’re half-watching runs in the background. Tension builds in your shoulders as you try to form a good question. Within minutes, he can tell something’s up with you.
“What?”
“I have something to say, but you’re not gonna like it.”
“Spill.”
“So… You’ve fought hard against the fate chosen for you by your father. He didn’t think you were capable of leading the coven, so he cast you out. Made you feel like you were less of a person; of a witch, because of the way you were born.”
“Point?”
“Against all odds, you came out on top. You broke down the barriers, literally and physically, and became the leader. Now,” you pause, “you gotta lead.”
Kai swallows as if he hadn’t anticipated this aspect of his choices. That, or he never expected to get this far, and therefore, never thought about any way he’d do it. “I am,” he finally says.
“How?”
“I’m alive, aren’t I?”
“You’re telling me your father never had any specific duties he’d have to perform as leader? No responsibilities? No expectations? Nothing?”
“He had to find a wife and have a set of twins.”
“Kai-”
“I know what you mean,” he sighs. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to lead a coven! What the hell do they do? Do I have to feed them? Give them water?”
“They’re not plants, Kai. Th-”
“I know!” He pauses the TV, but luckily doesn’t try to get off the couch. “But I don’t know how I’m supposed to do that myself. I saw my dad do some of it; he’d go to meetings, and set the standards, and was there to congratulate every stupid baby ever born-”
“Kai,” you warn.
“Sorry. I just… they hate me. How am I supposed to lead them when they hate me, and frankly, I hate them, too.”
“You’re just gonna have to do your best. Don’t do exactly what your father did, but use his leadership as a guideline - whether that's what to do or what to not do, that’s your choice. Try to co-exist with them, and follow whatever rules are absolutely required.”
He bites his cheek. “Will you help me?”
“Of course.” You kiss the side of his face he’s biting to make him let go. “I told you before, I’m always gonna be here for you. If that includes helping you make decisions in regards to your crazy coven, then so be it.”
*****
You’ve never seen anyone from his coven aside from his immediate family, so seeing more of the group that you’d ever anticipated was terrifying, to say the least. The whole plane trip across the country, you’re both having trouble sitting still. As he consumes mini pretzels at an abnormal rate, your tapping foot is probably peeving the passengers around you. Still, he tries his best to prepare you for what den of lions you’re about to face.
“So… meetings are usually just comprised of “elders” and their wives, plus anybody else deemed important enough to attend, or anyone who has something important to share. The elders are the decision makers, and now that includes my dad - elderly, and a past leader.” You snort at his choice of word, but then remember Kai’s actual age and realize the man probably is elderly. “So he’ll certainly be there. Jakob’s had it out for me since day one. I’m assuming he’s still alive, and he’ll be filled with piss and vinegar to see me in person. Leon’s fine. He carries the siphon gene and hasn’t had children because of it. His great uncle is rotting in a prison world somewhere, and I only know that from reading the journals from when I was in ‘94. Patrice is… unimportant,” he says, not knowing what else to say about her.
“Jeez… is anyone in your family actually pleasant?”
“My Aunt Maisie.”
“Oh, so one person.”
He nods. “She’s where Jo got ‘Laughlin’ from. You’d think if she was trying to hide from me, she wouldn’t pick the one name I’d immediately recognize.” He doesn’t say anything else on the matter, but there’s clearly more to it. You don’t push. His childhood isn’t something he wants to relive, and going to this meeting is doing exactly that. Instead, you change the topic.
“So I got us a hotel for the night, and a flight back the next morning. Partly because I know you don’t want to be here, and to be honest, I don’t want to be here, either. And, partly, because when you took off yesterday to prepare for this stupid thing, Matt texted and said Jenny missed your cocktails.”
The comment makes him smile. Even though the grill regular definitely flirts with him most nights, he’s come to enjoy her presence.
“Though I told him you’d need tomorrow night off, too, because this is going to be mentally draining, on top of the plane trip that crosses several time zones. And maybe Saturday, also.”
“Thank you,” he says genuinely, relieved that you understand him in such a way. He leans over to kiss you five seconds before the plane hits turbulence.
*****
On top of the four elders Kai mentioned, his father included, six others were also in attendance. Three were present when he was a kid, though Kai deemed them of lesser importance - they’d rarely speak, and usually only vote - and three had been elected sometime post-1994. He knows them from biannual gatherings and special occasions, but had never really spoken to them. And that reason is, of course, because he was rarely allowed out of his room for those occasions.
When he first enters the room and meets their eyes, small chatter fades to complete silence. Breaths are held as they look the boy up and down. They stare at him, then at you, and a little at your clasped hands. One-by-one, they address him, all by his full name, making his eyes twitch.
Joshua is the last of the elders to greet the new leader, being the most recent to join the council. He looks down disapprovingly before finally spitting a welcome.
“Where’s A-” Joshua turns on his heels and walks away before Kai can ask the question.
His sister then stands before him. “Aunt Maisie passed away in ‘99.”
Kai’s throat dries. “Why are you here?”
“I’m carrying the next set of twins, of course I’d be here.”
You squeeze his hand, trying to comfort him. He bites back a reply, but you can feel the anger coursing through his body.
Nothing important happens in the actual meeting. Jakob, as Kai predicted, shouts most of the time at no one in particular. Everyone knows he’s mad at Joshua, though, and you later learn that he originally wanted to kill the siphon boy at a mere eight years old. This time, Kai squeezes your hand to calm you.
A couple minutes is spent talking about the future of the coven. Patrice points out that although Jo is pregnant, her husband isn’t the leader. Something in her tone hints that the leader’s girlfriend should be the one to be pregnant and to bear the next set, but she’s instantly overridden by everyone shushing her about not wanting to continue the siphon, nor Kai in particular’s, direct bloodline.
In summary, you and Kai flew all the way to Portland just to be annoyed for three hours. That night, you cuddled him on the hotel bed, massaging your hands through his hair. He put up a strong, confident front to prove his ability to lead, but melted the moment you coaxed him into your arms in the privacy of the room. He’s quiet for a long time, and you’re the one that finally breaks the silence.
“I’m proud of you.”
His shoulders relax but tone hardens. “Why?” He wants to believe you, but doubts himself so much that he can’t yet.
“Because you stood up to them by coming here. You’re making an effort to prove your worth to them. Not like you should have to do that, but they’re a bunch of assholes who think you do. But regardless of that, too, it took a lot of strength to face the people who’ve done nothing but cause you pain. You handled both Jo’s and Jakob’s hostility well.”
He exhales, racing mind beginning to ease. “Thank you for coming with me.”
“Of course. Thank you for braving this step and showing them you’re more than capable to lead.”
“They’ll never think I am.”
“That doesn’t matter. They have no say in it; you’re already doing it.”
“For twenty-two years. Until whatever is germinating in my sister’s womb pops out.”
You bite your cheek to keep from laughing. His back rests against your chest, though, and there’s no way he didn’t feel at least a chuckle. “Well then that means we have twenty-two years to figure out something else instead.”
“Pennyroyal tea?”
“No!” You say quickly, unsure if he’s joking or not. “I mean more like, I don’t know, whatever that one woman was saying.”
It takes him a moment, but then his eyes narrow. “You want to have twins?”
“Better me than Jo to have the set that will eventually take over. Even if I’m a couple years behind, they’ll have to accept the current leader’s set over his sister’s, right?”
Kai shrugs, having no idea. It sounds true, given what was hinted before the elder was shushed, but he doesn’t know. Regardless of the answer, he sighs. “You wouldn’t want that kind of tie to my coven.”
“I’m dating you, I kinda already have it.”
“Yeah, but that level of ‘in it’ is something you can’t get out of.”
“I’d do it for you.”
He swears his heart stops. You would marry into his coven and produce a set of in-line twins just for him. Kai is still trying to wrap his head around the fact that you’re dating him, not to mention you’d suffer a coven meeting for him, but to also go that far… just because you love him? He can’t process it.
He wonders… maybe, he misheard you. “Did you say-” When he turns to face you, he realizes you’ve fallen asleep. Your hands remain to hold him, though you’re no longer playing with his hair. He watches your breathing for a moment, still bewildered. At some point, though, his racing mind and tired eyes drive him to exhaustion, and he finally falls asleep in your arms.
*****
Joshua’s presence at your terminal prevented you from never mentioning the conversation, as you were already late to catch your plane. The salt and pepper haired man had a few last, weak words for his son, as he tried to thank him for attending the meeting, but still shame him for winning the merge at the same time. When he made a spiral hand gesture in search of the right thing to say for the fifth time, you snapped your fingers to speed up the process, and finally then did he spit out something half-meaningful. You got on your plane with two minutes to spare and had, for the time being, completely forgotten about your earlier talk.
*****
You’re nearing the fifth month mark in your agreement with Damon and Bonnie, but to be honest, you aren’t worried about it one bit. They have no reason to punish Kai; he’s done nothing but make good progress since the deal was made.
That is, until one night at The Mystic Grill goes horribly wrong.
*****
A rather impatient series of knocks has you opening the door with your eyes rolling.
“What now?” You swing it open, expecting the pizza man. The last time, the man was so terrified of the neighbor’s dog that was barking, he was quick to hand it over and leave, forgetting his tip in the process. “I promise, the dog isn’t getting out. He’s just-”
Instead, Damon stands on the other side. “What dog? I’m not-”
“No.” You try to close it, but he stops it with his foot.
“Wait, Y/N.”
“What do you want?”
“Can’t just check up on a friend?”
“I still have time to work with Kai. And for your information, he’s doing great. We don’t need your commentary.”
“I’m just curious.” He tries to look past your shoulder into the room. “Where is the little weasel?” Unfortunately, he spots him on the couch and offers a wave.
“He has his own place down the hall, we’re just having dinner together. Got a problem with it?”
“Kai Parker has his own apartment? Wow!”
“Shut up, Damon. And why are you really here?”
“Jo told Alaric, who told me, that Kai’s been going to coven meetings lately.”
“Yeah. So?”
“Just seeing if it’s true! So what made him go?”
“He’s the leader; he’s taking up the responsibility. Like a leader does.”
He scoffs. “No influence from you?”
“Of course I’m helping him, but I’m not making decisions for him.”
“Really? This apartment, a job at the grill, being there for his family, that’s not you telling him what to do?”
“If didn’t want to do it, he wouldn’t. I don’t know if you know him, but Kai doesn’t do anything unless he wants to. Sure I’m guiding him, but he has the ultimate say in all of these decisions.”
“Yeah, except if he doesn’t follow the rules, we’re gonna kill him.”
“If you can catch him,” you challenge, “because if Kai decides he doesn’t want this life, I’m prepared to run with him.” You watch Damon’s face before continuing. “But the thing is - he does. He does want to fit in, and he does want his life to have meaning, and he doesn’t want to waste it. Contrary to what you all think, he’s really trying to start something here.” Damon stares at you. “So I’d appreciate it if you’d butt out and go away.”
The man clicks his tongue, but then ultimately leaves. “See you later, Y/N.”
“I’m sorry you had to hear that,” you mutter, joining him on the couch.
“You didn’t mention the guy at the bar.”
“Didn’t seem relevant. Damon makes mistakes, too.”
“What if he finds out?”
“I won’t let him hurt you. You’ve been making such good progress; you’ve been a downright angel most of the time. One bar fight in my defense isn’t going to erase all that.”
“Y/N, I killed him. He’s going to send me back to a prison world. I can’t go back there.”
You take his shoulders gently and pull him down into your lap. “He’s not going to hurt you, Kai. I promise. Rest your little head, okay?”
He nods. “And you’re sure you’ll leave with me if it comes to that?”
After the incident, he had a meltdown, fearing for his life, and almost preparing for Bonnie to burst through the door and send him away. You promised that if she were to come for him, you’d abandon this life and run with him, even if that dissolves the terms of your agreement with the pair. You had then admitted, too, that if Kai decides he doesn’t adapt well to domestic life, even without the incident that had occurred, you’re prepared to leave with him. Damon knowing that little contingency plan probably wasn’t the best, but you doubt the man believes you anyway.
“Of course. I promise.” You assure him.
*****
At nearly midnight, one week later, you hear a banging across the hall. After a moment, you poke your head out and see Damon at your door.
“The fuck do you want?”
“I thought this was your door?”
“I’m with Kai.”
“Ooh, in his apartment?”
“Did you think I was lying?”
He shrugs. “A little.”
“What do you want, Damon?”
He comes up to you with a piece of paper in his hand. He reads, “obituary of forty-two year old Patrick Johnson. Died in a bar fight last week. Split his head against the countertop. No arrests have been made,” he looks up, “happened at the grill.”
“So?”
“Sound familiar?”
“No arrests have been made.”
“Well I didn’t do it. Stefan didn’t do it. It could’ve only been Enzo, or your little “reformed” sociopath in there, and I think we both know who’s to blame.” You roll your eyes. “It’s easier to just tell the truth, sweetheart.”
“So what if it was? What are you gonna do? You’re not invited in; you can’t touch him.”
“Just tell me what happened, Y/N.” He makes a push against the boundary, but it doesn’t budge. “Look, Bonnie hasn’t seen this yet. Just tell me, and I can make it go away.”
“Why would you do that?”
“The goodness of my heart?” You snort. “Come on, Y/N.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I can go show this to her then,” he points his thumb in the other direction, “because I can promise you who she’ll point the first finger at, and considering Enzo’s been so busy sticking his nose in my brother’s business lately, odds aren’t in your favor.”
You hesitate. “Fine.”
Kai watches from the couch with bated breath. Damon gives him a little wave as he notices him. “Hello, Malachai.” You glare at the man, who then half-apologizes. “Sorry. Explain.”
 “There was a fight one night when we weren't working. Matt wasn’t working either. Kai had nothing to do with starting the fight, but unfortunately, we were sitting right in the middle of it. We got up to leave, but then some man grabbed me and reached down my shirt, and Kai lost his cool.”
“Details, please.”
“He pushed him into the bar but the man kept fighting back. He spit in Kai’s face and made attempts to pull at his clothes. All the while, yelling all this shit about what he wanted to do to me, screaming profanities. Made comments about other women, too, but when he specified that he had been watching me all night and was waiting for Kai to leave, Kai pushed his head down into the countertop. He still fought. After a couple of blows to the counter, we heard a crack. It wasn’t his fault, Damon, don’t hurt him, please.”
The man stares for a moment, then at Kai. “Y’know… I’m surprised you even made it this far. I had no faith in you.”
“Damon-”
“But, I have to say, I’m impressed by your progress. Y/N here wants you to be better, and clearly you love her enough to be better for her.”
“He’s doing it for himself, too, Damon. All he’s ever wanted is to be accepted, and-”
“Save the speech. I admire the progress you’ve made, and I’d honestly hate for all of Y/N’s hard work to go to waste. Now, Bonnie hasn’t seen this yet, and you’ve toned down your menacing almost one hundred percent, and I can agree that this incident isn’t your fault. So, if you promise not to repeat it, and don’t ever speak a word of this to Bonnie-”
“She doesn’t even talk to me anymore.”
“-we don’t have to let her know it happened. I’ll go Liz, clear your name from it. She can put the blame on someone else or claim it was an accident. Just tell me that you won’t let this happen again.”
Now you’re the one staring at Damon, wide-eyed with surprise. “I-I promise.”
Kai nods, agreeing. “I didn’t mean to get in a fight, and I certainly didn’t mean to kill him. I just couldn’t let it go and he wouldn’t stop.”
“I’d do the same if it were Elena. Hell, I’d do it for Y/N, too. What’s one less douchebag in this world?”
The boy half-smiles. “Hey, Damon?”
“What?”
“If Bonnie does find out, or if she has a suspicion, what do we do?”
He shrugs. “Tell her what you told me. He wouldn’t stop. It was an accident. You were protecting Y/N.” Damon looks at you. “I know you two used to be close, so even if she’s mad about it, she’ll understand. I won’t let her do anything in terms of the agreement, I’ll, as Elijah always says,” he says with a smirk, “keep my word. And hey, you might even win brownie points for defending her.”
“Thank you.”
“Just don’t let it happen again. Next time someone starts shit, call me to compel them away, or call Liz.”
“Okay,” you reply.
“Speaking of compulsion,” he adds, “how’d you get this apartment?”
You’re quiet for a moment, then admit, “Caroline helped.” He laughs. “Don’t tell Bonnie.”
Damon puts his hands up as if to surrender. “Not a peep.”
“She said I remind her of someone named Klaus,” Kai offers.
“Ah. Yes! Baby Klaus.”
You shake your head, offended. “Not at all!”
“I’m kidding!”
“You’re a jerk.”
“All kidding, sourpuss. Alright, off to Liz.”
“Thank you again.”
“Hm. Be good.”
The death was ruled an accident the next day.
*****
Six months on the dot, Damon summons you and Bonnie back to the boarding house to rule if Kai can stay, or if Bonnie can boot him back to a prison world. The boy is nervous, despite you promising him he has nothing to fear. If anything, she should be the one anxious, upset she can’t go through with her little plan to trap him again.
The two of you show up right on time, and to your surprise, Elena’s the one to open the door.
“Hi,” she smiles. You two haven’t seen much of each other lately. Bonnie’s been adamant about her friends avoiding both you and The Grill, and many of their nights have been spent at the Scull Bar instead.
“Hi,” you greet her back. Kai gives her a smile, too, but nervousness twitches at the tip of his lips.
“I’ve been seeing the other Parker so much, it’s refreshing to see a different one,” she references Liv and her salty-ass attitude. “Hey, Damon’s said you make a mean cocktail. Put it to the test?”
Damon’s been keeping a secret eye on Kai and reporting everything back to his girlfriend. She wants to believe he’s changed, Caroline, too, and asks the question as a small way to test it. When he gives her a more confident smile and steps inside the house, she takes it as a good sign.
You follow them inside.
“Y/N!” Damon welcomes, arms open wide. He pulls you into an unexpected hug, but then whispers in your ear, “careful, she’s bitter.” The hug suddenly makes sense, and you thank him for the warning before hugging back. “And where’s the little weasel?”
“In the kitchen with Elena. She wanted a cocktail.”
“Ah. I may have told her he’s built up a little fanbase at The Grill. Jenny the Drunk is no longer his biggest tipper.”
“So I’ve heard. All the milfs want my man.”
“Well, he is closer in age to them than you.”
“Shut up.”
“Y/N,” Bonnie’s voice interrupts your banter. She smiles at you from afar, eyes clouded with mixed emotions.
“Hi,” you reply with a similar tone. Not cold, but not exactly warm, either. “How’ve you been?”
“Okay. Been studying a lot. Been helping Jo with… I’ve been busy.”
You nod. “She’s close.”
“Yeah. You know?”
“She stopped coming to meetings.”
“Meetings…?”
“Coven meetings. They’re in Portland, so we have to fly, and she’d always be there, too.”
“You’ve been going to coven meetings?”
“Kai’s the leader, he kinda has to.”
She gulps, as if not expecting him to be so productive in the six month time span. Before she can say anything else, though, Caroline comes out of nowhere with a bright yellow cocktail and a bendy straw.
“Mhm! You have to try these, they’re so good! Who’d think Kai could make such a good tropical drink? I wouldn’t until thirty seconds ago.”
You laugh. “Where’d the bendy straw come from?”
She shrugs. “Found them in the cupboard, probably Damon’s secret stash. Bonnie, you want to try?”
“No.”
“Okay.” She retreats back to the kitchen, promising she’ll bring you one.
“Did he learn that skill at The Grill? Matt taught him?”
“He learned in the prison world. They only had to train him on the more modern drinks.” She doesn’t answer. “He’s really been trying. Not only trying, but doing really well.”
“What about-”
“Guys, come in here! Damon’s summoning you,” Caroline calls.
You share one more glance and then follow her voice to the kitchen.
“Decision-making time,” Damon announces, fighting with his tongue to find his straw.
“Preferably before we get drunk,” his girlfriend agrees.
Bonnie looks less than thrilled. “This agreement was made between Y/N, Damon, and I, and only the three of us will actually be making the decision.”
Her slight attitude makes the room silent.
Caroline’s the first to speak up. “That’s fair, I guess.”
“Thank you, Caroline.” The girl looks back down at her drink. She made input to keep the peace, not to argue on the behalf of one side or the other. “Y/N?”
“Hm?”
“You mentioned Kai’s been going to Gemini meetings. Anything else he’s done?”
“Yeah, well, we started with the apartment, then the job. Felt like The Grill would be a good place since he was a regular, and that he’d be comfortable there. With time, I helped him ease into his coven role, and we go to Portland monthly for meetings. Nothing important ever really happens, they all just argue.”
“You mentioned you’ve seen Jo. She’s around eight months now. That hasn’t been a problem?”
“She wasn’t at the last meeting. Her father said he nor Rick wanted her flying. And no, it hasn’t been a problem.”
“He’s not worried about the next set of twins taking over in twenty years?”
“We’ve discussed it, but no, it’s not a problem.”
“What do you mean ‘discussed it’?”
“That’s actually none of your business, Bonnie. The only people who should be concerned with that are those in the Gemini coven, and considering you’re not, you don’t have the right to ask. And, actually, Jo got pregnant and engaged without even consulting her coven, too, so frankly, that business only belongs to Kai and I.” She blinks, not used to being told off so directly. “We’re not concerned about Jo, nor the twins. Besides, that’s over twenty years away, and not worth worrying over right now.”
“Fine. So he’s adapting well?”
“Yes.”
“Bonnie,” Damon starts, “I know we were skeptical, but I think they’ve proven us wrong-”
“One more thing.” You gulp, knowing exactly where she’s headed. “A couple months ago, I read an article where a local bar fight turned deadly. The man’s death was ruled an accident. Do you know anything about that?”
“That was-”
“And don’t you dare lie to me because we both know-”
“I wasn’t going to lie,” you snap back. “If you’d let me talk, I could explain.”
“Oh, so you do know about it? I want to hear it from him,” she nods to Kai.
Kai’s nervously chewing his lip. When you give him a gentle tilt of your head, he begins to explain. “Okay, yes, that was me. I was defending Y/N. I-”
“We told you no more killing people. The deal’s-”
“Let him explain, Bonnie,” the vampire interrupts.
“You’re defending him?!”
“Just hear him out first.”
Kai looks to Damon, then back at the girl. “The guy got physical with Y/N. He was yelling all this profane shit about her and grabbed at her shirt. When I got in the middle of them, he started hitting at me, and spitting. Every time I tried to shake him off, he’d come back for more. It was a complete accident; I didn’t mean to kill him.”
“So you did kill him.”
“Did you not hear me? I said it was an accident; he was trying to get to Y/N. I wasn’t going to let him touch her.”
“Think about it, Bonnie. If you were there, you would’ve given him a magical headache, and if his brain burst, oh well! The only difference is that Kai didn’t use magic. If anything, it’s better that he didn’t.”
“I’m sorry, I’m still confused. Why are you defending him? And why do you seem to know about this?!”
“I did know about it, okay? And I’m sorry for not telling you, but this is why. He was defending Y/N and I can’t blame him for that. C’mon, Bon. You’ve always been worried about her getting hurt, but he keeps her safe. It’s crazy, even for me to admit, but he does.”
“So you’re okay with him staying? You’re serious?”
“Look, he hasn’t been bothering us. Hasn’t been bothering Jo. This is the only person he’s killed and it was in Y/N’s defense. He makes great cocktails. Let’s just put this whole thing behind us.”
“Bonnie, I’ve missed your friendship these last couple months, and if you give Kai a chance, you’ll see he’s really put in a lot of effort into building a life here.”
She glares at the both of you, then back at him. She even looks to her friends for support. They shrug. “Fine.” She holds up a finger, “but if he falls back into old ways, he’s gone.”
“Thank you, Bon.”
Kai offers his thanks as well, and a second later, you jump at the feeling of his lips on the back of your neck. He apologizes for startling you, but then wraps his arms around your waist. Bonnie watches, both at how unafraid you are of him, and how in love he is with you. She fights the urge to smile, wanting to keep up her cold exterior for a little longer.
After some time, plans are made to get together for real. There’s a lot of work to be done in rekindling your friendship, but you’re on the path to getting there. As for her negative feelings about Kai, she’s just going to have to see his change for herself.
*****
That night, you’re curled in bed together when something suddenly harbors in his mind. He hesitates for a moment, unsure if he wants to bring it up; if you even remember it happening, but then curiosity begins to fester in him.
“Can we talk about something, Y/N?”
“What’s that?”
“I was reminded earlier, when you were talking about Jo to Bonnie… in the hotel room after the first meeting, did you mean it?”
“Mean what?”
“What you said about, like, having twins? That you’d do it for me?”
You backtrack your mind several months to that conversation. It happened a little like this one - you holding him, him being a little weary about the day’s events. Ah. “Yes.”
He perks up. “Yes, you remember it, or yes, you meant it?”
“Both. I do remember that conversation. And yes, I would give you a set of twins if you wanted to keep your bloodline in the leadership.”
“Why?”
“Why?” You repeat his question, glancing at him to see if he’s serious. His face is riddled with confusion - definitely serious. “Because I love you. And they might have doubts about you, but I have faith in your ability to lead, and I believe you’d be a good father, too.”
Now he crinkles his nose. “Why?”
“Well the man who raised you barely did at all. He isolated you, and hurt you, and treated you like crap just because you were born differently. And despite that, and despite a few bumps along the way, you’ve proven you’re capable of deep, gentle love. You prove it to me daily, and you’ve proven patience at your job and with Bonnie, and understanding. You’ve managed to survive despite the circumstances you’ve been given, and all those things are traits I know you would teach a child, because you’d do everything to prevent raising them like your father raised you; to make sure they grow up in a loving environment, like one you should’ve been given. And, you’d teach them how to survive in this coven, because unfortunately, as leader, you’re still tied to them, but you would teach them how to remain strong. And even if we ever happen to have twins and they’d need to merge, you’d still make sure their lives are meaningful before it.”
Kai’s quiet for a while. “If we did that, I wouldn’t want it just for the benefit of the coven. It would be out of my love for you, and if we have a desire to have kids. Not like Jo, where it was an accident, but not like my father, who only needed a leader.”
You kiss his head. “I agree.”
“So you would be okay with that? If we did, at some point?”
“Of course. When the time comes for that, we can talk about it more, but yes.”
“Good, because I’m not ready now.” He relaxes, but then stiffens again. “But wait, Jo… if we’re trying to beat her to this, don’t we need to do it now?”
You choose your next words carefully, unsure if they even hold any meaning. “Well… if I’m understanding it correctly, the leader’s twins would be next in line, regardless if there’s another set in the family. So even if Jo’s are, say, nine or ten, if we have a set, wouldn’t they be next in line?”
“But they don’t want to continue my line because of the siphon gene.”
“Yes, but you’re still the leader, so maybe we can argue that when the time comes. Besides, we can’t do anything about it now. She’s eight months and I’m, obviously, not even in the same playing field.” You rub his arm comfortingly, or at least, hoping it’ll bring him comfort in light of your next few words. “Maybe… okay. First off, I don’t think Jo wants to participate in the merge with her future kids. She’s already tried to escape this family once, I doubt she wants her kids brought back in it. So maybe if we have a set, she’ll just let them take over.”
“But she might merge them just to prevent my line from continuing in leadership.”
“Or, she might welcome kids raised by you and I to lead instead, if we can prove to her we can raise good kids,” you half-joke. He nods. “Because as much animosity as she has towards you, I really don’t think she wants her kids following in coven tradition. Even so, if she does merge hers, we can just follow right up with ours and take it back.” Kai lets out a small chuckle. “But even if hers do take the leadership, I don’t think they’ll try to hurt you. By then, you’ll be settled in, and we’re already far away from your father. Jo trusts me, I think, and we can continue to make peace with her. We’ll be okay. You’ll be safe, I promise. As long as you’re with me-”
“-I’m safe.”
“Exactly.” You kiss him. “And if by somehow there’s a huge falling out and the coven does get violent again,” you shrug, “we’ll just become vampires.”
At first he laughs, but then grows serious as the words hit him. “You’d really do that with me? Transition and live forever just to keep them from killing me?”
“Mhm. I would live a thousand lives as long as I have you with me in all of them.”
Can you recommend historicals where the heroine is more like silly? Not that she's stupid or anything just that she does or says things that are funnily awkward
When a Girl Meets an Earl by Elisa Braden immediately comes to mind. The heroine is like, super beautiful and every man wants her, but she's OBSESSED with this stoic Scottish earl. Because he's BIG. Like, she sees him lift another man off the ground by his neck to defend her friend's honor, and she's like "MY GOD. I NEED THAT DICK" and basically sets out to have him. To a hilarious degree. And he's very resistant, lol. But this bitch also doesn't even know he's Scottish until like, they're about to get married (due to her machinations)??? He drops the English accent and uses his natural one to freak her out and she's like "OH. YOU'RE SCOTTISH?" I love her.
Elisa Braden heroines are often kinda silly in general, with some exceptions. The Temptation of a Highlander has a heroine who constantly says accidental double entendres because she's so into the hero. The issue is that they're obviously not alone often? So she usually says them in a public setting? Like "hahaha you could certainly break me in half" and everyone falls silent. The poor girl is nothing but Freudian slips because she's so desperately horny.
Kleypas does a few silly heroines. Beatrix Hathaway definitely comes to mind, though I haven't done my re-listen of Love in the Afternoon yet and I remember literally nothing from that book besides letters. But she's obviously in Tempt Me at Twilight a lot, and the girl is batty. Obsessed with animals, prone to saying weird shit at any given moment. Pandora Ravenel is similar in Devil in Spring. She's really smart and super ambitious, but she's also seen as a little odd. I believe she also has an inner ear thing that makes it difficult for her to dance, so people think she's sillier than she is.
Grace Callaway is great for silly heroines. Olivia from Olivia and The Masked Duke comes to mind. Just hurtling herself into danger, constantly trying to aggressively flirt with her dad's friend who's like "PLEASE. STOP. TEMPTING ME." A true brat. The heroine from The Duke Who Knew Too Much (I think this is Olivia's parents book lol), Emma, is also similar ridic. I shall never forget the scene where she and Alaric are spying on people behind a curtain and she's all *eyebrows eyebrows* and he's like "WHAT???? BITCH NO" but she's already on her knees stuffing his dick into her mouth. Like, she literally does a full chubby bunny "try to cram as much of this thing into your mouth as possible" deal because she has no idea what she's doing and doing it behind a curtain with people in the room seemed like a good idea at the time!!!!
Naturally, Tessa Dare heroines lean towards silly a lot of the time, because her books are hilarious. The heroine from When a Scot Ties the Knot is very smart, but she has anxiety so a lot of people think she's silly, and she's also like? An illustrator who does scientific drawings of nature? And she's desperately trying to catch her lobsters fucking so she can draw lobster sex?
Eleanor from The Duke's Perfect Wife is one of my favorite heroines because she like, refuses to take a moment seriously (until she does). Literally jumps into a carriage with her ex-fiance, with whom she had this incredibly hot, intense relationship, and is all "I HAVE YOUR NUDES". And he just like. Blinks.
Sarah MacLean has a lot of somewhat batty heroines. Imogen from Knockout is really smart, but also legit insane and hilarious, And you have a hero who's just trying to keep up, lol.
Stephanie Laurens heroines are hilarious. I would for sure recommend Scandal's Bride on this front. Like, this woman is BATSHIT and says the funniest things. Again, this is the one I refer to as the hero being like "when that redhead gets freaky it DOES something to me".
Hope living with Jeremy? :O
Thank you bestie, you're so cool ily !! I know what I've written here doesn't actually have a lot of Hope living with Jeremy lmao but this scene actually follows on from an interaction between the two of them, and I swear there is a lot more of them throughout the rest of the fic, this just happens to be where I left off last time I was writing
<3
"A football game?" Hope repeats, eyebrow raised.
Alaric nods but doesn't seem bothered about elaborating further.
"So, there's a troll on the loose right now - probably looking for me or already knocking on the school doors where your daughters live, and you... want me to play in a football game?"
"That's right," he says.
She stares at him. He stares back. They both know what's happening here. He thinks he's being smart by pretending this task he's giving her is crucial to the bigger plan, and she knows he's bullshitting so he can try to figure it all out himself.
"I'm not going to waste time playing football," she tells him plainly.
"You won't be wasting time," he insists. "If, like you said, the troll is going to the Salvatore School, then we both need to be there. This football game is the only way that can happen." He sighs. "Look, no one there remembers you."
"Well aware of that, thanks," she snaps.
His features soften. "I know. What I'm saying is that you can't just waltz onto the grounds. They won't let you, they'll think you're one of Malivore's monsters."
He has a point there. It would be her first thought. She shifts uncomfortably, her scowl deepening the more she considers his plan. There's a reason she never signed up for the Salvatore School's sports teams - she's not good at sports. Nor does she enjoy any part of them.
Alaric straightens. He shrugs. "So, either you play in the football game or you can go back to the house. Jeremy's got a strict training schedule, but I'm sure he'd be happy to let you join him, if that's what you want. Between the two of us, he doesn't have a lot of friends. In his words, it's not easy to make friends and keep them when we live in a world full of vampires, werewolves and witches. You know, you two might have more in common than you think."
She glares at him, refusing to let his low blow sting. "Fine. I'll play in the stupid game."
And because I appreciate you sending me a request, here is another little scene that was actually the sole reason I wanted to write this fic:
"You know," Jeremy huffs, stopping to catch his breath, "you remind me a lot of someone."
Hope takes another swing at him, forcing him to step back. He laughs in surprise, shakes his head, then motions for her to try again as he readies himself this time.
"I hear that a lot, funny enough," she says dryly. "Kind of comes with everyone who ever knew you having their memory wiped of your existence." She swings again, sinking her fist into the palm of his hand as he blocks the blow, to her frustration. "People don't actually remember you but they know there's some familiar about you."
Jeremy shakes his head again. "That's not what I mean."
"No?" She ducks his fist with ease and snaps back up to trap his arm in both her hands. She raises an eyebrow. "Then what did you mean?"
He escapes her grasp, though she's not entirely sure how. He's faster than she thought he would be for a human. Stronger, too. Not quite werewolf or vampire strong, but definitely stronger than he should be.
He puts a few feet between them and she lets him, taking the opportunity to catch her own breath as her heart furiously dents the inside of her ribcage.
"I knew this guy, long time ago," he says. "Bit of a dick."
"And I remind you of him? High praise. Thanks a lot."
Jeremy laughs and waves a hand at her pointedly. "He would've said the same thing." He tilts his head. "Or he'd have ripped my arm off. He had a bit of a temper. Tried to kill me a few times, actually."
"Sounds like a great guy," Hope says sarcastically, and grabs her water bottle off the ground, taking a drink.
"Not really," Jeremy agrees, "but he also wasn't the worst. He was actually my only friend for a while. I met him at college. Turned out, though, he was a vampire who was sent by his brother to keep an eye on me so he could kill me if my sister pissed him off too much. Which kinda sucked, because I actually liked him. I got a dog and we'd take it on walks together. So, yeah, he was a bit of a dick sometimes, but not all the time."
Hope pushes the lid back down on the bottle as she absorbs this. She tries to swallow the lump in her throat as a small smile fights its way onto her face.
"He sounds a bit like my uncle," she confesses. "Or at least, that's how my parents used to talk about him." She rolls her eyes, a chuckle escaping her now. "My mom told me my dad would complain about him all the time, but that, deep down, he would do anything for him."
Jeremy shrugs one shoulder, grabbing his own water bottle as he says, "That's just how families are. I know Elena and I have had our fair share of fights and haven't always had the best things to say about each other, but... at the end of the day, we understand each other better than most people ever will."
She nods slowly and bites down hard on her cheek. It doesn't stop the stinging in the back of her eyes no matter how much she wills it to. She swipes the back of her hand over her face under the pretence of wiping sweat out of her eyes.
"What was your friend's name?" she asks, trying to distract herself from the attack on her mind that thinking about her parents always seems to bring on. "Unless you made him up. Ric told me you don't exactly have many friends."
"Oh, did he?" Jeremy tosses his water bottle back to the ground with a grin, then says, "Well, he was definitely real, and if you don't believe me, you can ask Ric. Kol tried to kill him once or twice as well."
Hope freezes. "What?"
"Yeah, like I said. Bit of a dick. Then again, just about everyone in my life has tried to kill me at least once. Damon did kill me."
Her heart was beating too loud to hear anything he said.
"I... I need to go," she says.
She doesn't give any explanation; she walks back into the house and right out the front door. Though, where she's going, she has no idea. Her feet keep moving and she lets them carry her - all the way into the town square. She stops abruptly as her eyes are drawn to the Mystic Grill. Landon doesn't notice her, watching him as he clears one of the tables. He heads back inside without so much as glancing in her direction. The tears come freely now.
Send me the title/number of a wip and make me write it!
Finally decided to do a TVD rewatch now that the 'verse is complete. Since I know how everything ends I thought it would be interesting to see how I react with that knowledge. Curious if my feelings might change about characters, ships, storylines etc. (obviously I am fully aware there's going some bias).
Adding my thoughts after I complete the half-way mark of each season (there is simply too many episodes to do a recap of each one). I am talking to the void mostly here but feel free to leave comments, thoughts on my posts for those who still follow me or just find this post. However, I am not here to argue, I simply DO NOT CARE whatever you think is right totally, please leave me alone.
S1 Episodes 1-11
I am loving the dark atmosphere of the first season, feeling so much nostalgia! Nice to go back in time to when vampires were scary on this show. That's not really criticism because every supernatural show goes through this. The big bad must always be upped as it goes on but it was nice when the stakes were lower and the mythos was being developed.
Damon makes me feel so uncomfortable so far... I know he was the 'villian' for most of the beginning of the season but his treatment of Vicki and Caroline is just so predatory and gross. Which brings me to...
WHY HAS NO ONE GIVEN CAROLINE A GOD DAMN VERVAIN NECKLACE ALREADY!!! Stefan and Elena both know Damon was using her (and they know damn well he hasn't stopped). Her Mom has the vervain to give her and just has not for no reason!! GET AWAY FROM HER ALREADY! I got so mad when Damon was compelling her AGAIN in the 10th episode. I'm so glad she outlives them all, justice for my baby!
I'm sorry but Stefan is so creepy and self-righteous in the beginning, I remembered this but did not remember how bad it was. Also he did not need to kill Vicki, that pissed me off. I don't think it did as much when I first watch this (mind you that was literally 14+ years ago) but just knowing how freely everyone neck-snaps around here it was bullshit. His one cool moment remains when he told Logan he can't walk in the sun. The manipulative way he used Elena’s adoption to get her to forgive him had me rolling my eyes (then of course she used it against Jenna to get out of trouble lol).
I can't remember who the other vampire is who turned Logan, I'm thinking its Pearl's henchman but yeah I don't remember that part. I also didn't remember the crystal so I like that some of this is like a 'mystery' again.
I did remember that I thought Tyler was such a dick in the first season and yeah confirmed. Though now I remembered his Dad was an abusive piece of shit. Still, fuck Tyler for now.
Alaric looks so different I don't hate him (yet).
I still hate Matt #bias
The progression of Bonnie realizing her powers has been well done, again nice to just see the simple magic again. (Stefan totally wanted to bang Sheila back in the day... maybe they did)
Jeremy just met Anna and I still love them, I wish they got more time. They were the only 'ship I like in this season when it first aired.
The Bonnie, Elena and Caroline friendship is nice but I am annoyed they haven't done more to protect Caro from Damon. Especially when she doesn't know what's going on and they do (though Bonnie only just got all the deets). This might be magnified by my love of Caroline I admit but I hate the prop-y way she's being used so far.
I kinda rolled my eyes at the whole Katherine/Damon/Stefan stuff before Elena knew they were vamps because OMG Stefan is 17(!!!) Does no one thinks it's weird he's like "it was a long time ago" A LONG TIME AGO LIKE WHEN YOU WERE 12?! They should have made him at least 20, just bothers me.
I liked that not every vampire had a daylight ring and it was more of a novelty. That is something that could have stuck more in the later seasons.
Lines that made me laugh:
Caroline: Yeah, Elena wasn't so lucky today. It's only because you missed summer camp. God, I don't know how you're ever going to learn the routines. (Bonnie offers to help her) I guess we can put her in the back. (all right in front of Elena lmao oh Caroline never change)
Caroline: So, Elena...how long do you think this fight with Stefan's gonna last? Is it...like a permanent thing? (eyes on the prize baby! lol)
Stefan: (imitating Damon) Now that the secret society of vampire haters is off our back, I can go back to my routine of how can I destroy Stefan’s life this week. (never gets old!)
Damon: *shoots Logan with wooden bullets* Payback's a bitch, isn't it? (all in the delivery here lmao kudos to Ian)
"Hey baby guess who's back and ready to dick you down"
"Who?"
Alaric made a pointed show of looking behind Ciar, and then himself, before raising a brow. He worked hard to keep a grin from his lips.
"Not you, surely."
i spent most of this week's fun writing time trying to wrangle my brain into finishing arranged marriage (the first part's done! i just need to let it marinate for a couple of days and use fresh eyes to make sure i've wrung most of the awkward out), but here's part of the new thing i let myself write as a little treat. i have zero plans for it other than, vaguely, shenansies.
Klaus retreated to the permanent privacy of his and Caroline’s spelled suite, a home décor must when your children were the world’s only tribrid, the last Heretic confirmed to still live, and the blackest witch since Dahlia herself had slithered the Earth, were prone to dropping by unannounced, and not at all inclined to limit their expressions of disgust at any indication of parental intimacy.
The first time Lizzie burst into their bedroom uninvited, the resulting chaos convinced him of the necessity of that. In the end, Hope managed to throw the much taller, squirming girl, still shrieking about her mother being defiled, over her shoulder and staggered all the way out of their house. Caroline had been tempting in nothing but an artfully draped bedsheet, cheeks flushed pink with her paroxysms of embarrassed laughter, but Klaus resigned himself to not bedding her without an appointment again until he could bribe Freya into warding it to hell and back.
Decades older, now, their children might be, but part of them would always stay as young as they appeared.
Collapsing onto the settee and sprawling out into the corner, he sipped his bourbon and pulled up contact information he had only very rarely had occasion to use over the years.
When she answered his call, it was in a hoarse, exhausted alto. “We can be at Heathrow in two hours.”
“Pardon me?”
“Yes, if you want me to fix whatever you or the girls have got yourselves into this time, Enzo is coming with me.” On the other end of the line, there was a rusting and shifting of mattress and linen and then the soft padding of the witch’s bare feet on creaking, old hardwood. “And I don’t care how much he provokes you. I don’t care how many times he hugs them or how many cutesy nicknames he uses. I don’t care how obnoxious he is, because if he truly steps over the line, you know Care feels remarkably little guilt about punching men in the dick.”
An understatement if there was ever one. Once, a visiting older vampire had, evidently, grown particularly weary of remaining among the reanimated and taken his chances in groping Caroline aggressively enough that his fingers had gone places she was of the firm opinion they did not belong. She’d punched him so hard; his genitals had been pulped. By the time Klaus got involved, he found her berating the man for his sartorial choices while grinding her stiletto into whatever was left. Not that he thought it an overreaction, but it was a tad hypocritical of her to object when he added the vampire to his decorative skull collection.
“So, Enzo isn’t staying home, and you’re not allowed to maim, torture, or kill him in any way, shape, or form.” There was the click of a light switch and then hushed, domestic noises: the clink of metal against metal, water poured, loose tea measured, the click of an electric kettle turning itself off. “Now, who’s the fuck up this time?”
That was fair, he supposed. After all, he’d never contacted the witch except in times of crisis. Caroline’s kidnappings had petered out over the years, and stopped altogether when the last coven to conceive of a supposedly foolproof plan hadn’t lasted past the attempted nabbing. Between Hope’s pathological distrust of witches, aside from her aunts and the twins—understandable, in Klaus’s opinion, given the circumstances of his daughter’s existence—the lingering remnants of Lizzie’s hero worship of her mother—again, understandable—and Josie’s slightly deranged loyalty to the parent who had spent decades trying to fix what Alaric had broken—bit of a pattern emerging—the girls could not be relied upon to have a reasonable response.
Caroline hadn’t even scolded them overmuch for not firing a warning shot before turning her abductors into smears of ash and blood. She’d never been the sort to get a kick out of her own kidnappings, unless she’d had a hand in planning them.
“Believe it or not, we currently number among us not a single fuck up. There’s no emergency.”
Bonnie set something glass down with a hard thump. “Why the Hell did you wake me up at 4:30 in the morning, then?”
“Well, I don’t exactly keep up to date with your itinerary, witch,” Klaus replied with ire to match. “You’re capable of ignoring a call when abed, are you not? Besides,” Klaus continued to avoid being hung up on, “the girls do need help. Urgently.”
She sighed and the sounds of her preparing her tea resumed. “Fine. What terrible ideas do I need to save them from this time? If they’re harassing Damon and Elena’s kids again, I want plausible deniability and am ending this call.”
“Worse.” Klaus slumped lower and gave his drink a despairing sip. “They’ve decided it’s Caroline’s and my fiftieth anniversary in October and have their little hearts set on a family destination celebration.” He let that sink in for a moment before finally arriving at the crux of the problem. “The entire family.”
“Shit.”
10 of my possibly unpopular TVDU opinions…
But this was really interesting to write and I would love you hear you guys's thoughts!
-S
+600ish words.
CW/TW: Creepy people, racism, mistreatment of actors, my opinions.
I don’t want to say people's real names in this post because I don’t know them personally and I don’t want to get in trouble and to put it clearly: THESE ARE MY OPINIONS AND YOU CAN HAVE DIFFERENT ONES AND THAT’S OKAY!
Elena for the most part, is a victim of her circumstances. She is a bit annoying but for most of the show she is a teen who has lost a lot of her family. But I completely understand that fans don’t like her because when I was watching the show for the first time, I didn’t like her either (and I still really don’t).
I don’t love Kol like a lot of the fandom does. It’s mostly because his actor doesn’t seem like a good person and I cannot really separate the character from the actor. Also, I find Kol a bit too whiny for my liking, but I get why people like him so much.
Alaric is creepy and becomes a worse person the longer he is on screen. Especially when Caroline was having the twins and that whole thing was going on. Also the few first seasons of Legacies that I watched, I found him just insufferable. It doesn’t help that the actor seems to be quite a horrible person in real life.
Stelena is better. I’m in no way a shipper but Stefan and Elena made a better couple (or at least a bit healthier one). I also find Damon really creepy towards the main girls in the first few seasons. Damon was turned when he was 24ish which means that he was basically hitting on 16-17 year-old girls. (Also, he was a dick to Bonnie.)
All of the older vampires are queer in some way. I really believe that especially the Mikaelson siblings are bi/pan/stuff like that, because when you are literally thousand years old, you are fucking everyone regardless of gender.
I hate the last two seasons of the Originals. I feel like Hollow was full of wasted potential and the characters felt really different. It really feels like season five was just for rushing to the end so they could make Legacies, so it felt that nothing meant anything. Also, I really disliked Hope in season 5 which made me not really excited about Legacies.
Also, I hated the ending of the Originals. I understand that we were never getting a happy ending and that’s fine but the ending (and the whole last season) was such a mess. It felt like the writers were just trying to pile as much trauma for Hope as possible.
Season 2 is the best season of TVD and season 3 is the best season of The Originals. You might see something common with these two seasons (Elijah and Klaus) and I will not feel bad about it. Elijah really shines in both of the seasons and in general both of them are really fun.
Legacies ruined the universe for me for a long time. I tried to like the show, I really really tried, but I hated what they did with the universe and for a while I couldn’t enjoy the TVDU at all. Them changing the magic makes me so angry and all these new supernatural creatures just popping up every episode got me so confused and lost with the style of the show. I stopped watching after two-ish seasons and what I have read about the show later on, it didn’t seem great.
This isn’t really unpopular but the mistreatment of people of color off and on screen is insane. But it's good that a lot of the fandom sees that and calls out the problematic behavior that the creators have shown. Some of the choices made by the creators are awful and I hope the people affected by those decisions have been able to heal.
his princess | alaric saltzman
ship : alaric saltzman x fem!! reader
WARNINGS : fingering, oral ( female receiving, daddy kink, some sir/dr kink, spit, spanking , legal age gap
NOTES : this inspired a dark! alaric fic in me….. thinking dirty thoughts
request? : yes @fulchecker
summery : alaric and you are hunting for malivore monsters, yet you get a little distracted
Tumblr media
Malivore was no joke, sending monsters day after day was getting exhausting. Hope needed a break and decided to have a movie night with the rest of the super squad. And not wanting to leave Alaric alone you ditched your squad and headed with him to go hunt a gremlin … or something.
Okay, maybe you lied. Maybe you just wanted to get to admire your best friends dad alone without them here! Could anyone blame you? His print in his jeans showed he liked your flirty touches!
Alaric didn’t want to act on his impulses. But when you would call him dr. saltzman in your sickeningly sweet voice he would want to tear his pants off and pound you on his desk. But he couldn’t do that — You were his daughters bestfriend!
The gremlin was easy to track, easier to kill. And now you sat in the car with your headmaster — your hot headmaster.
“Get some rest, We should be back soon” Alaric said — his hands gripping the steering wheel.
You bit your lip “I’d rather stay up and talk with you” You gained the confidence to say. It wasn’t unusual for you to throw flirty comments at him once and a while. Doing it when you knew Lizzie or Josie wouldn’t notice.
Alaric raised a eyebrow, your in uniform short skirt and low cut top had his dick hard already. “Is that so?”
You nodded “Yes, sir” You treaded on dangerous territory. Watching the way Alaric gulped, Adjusting his hand placement on the steering wheel.
“Sir?” Alaric questioned. That was a unusual title. Dr.Saltzman / Mr. Saltzman or even a Alaric from hope was what he was used too.
“I mean you are in charge here right?” Alaric’s jeans tightened around his cock at your words “Maybe i should call you.. daddy” Your own eyes widened at your words. But it was just what you needed to say to get what you wanted
The car came to a jolt “What did you say?” Alaric said — caught off guard
You went to apologize “Dr. Saltzman im so-“ He cut you off with his hand on your thigh
“No-No. Say it again” He demanded
“… I’m sorry Daddy” Something in Alaric‘s eyes changed.
His hand trailed up your thigh and touched your slit through your panties. Your pussy was wet and you could hear him chuckle under his breathe.
“Tell me you want this, If you don’t, I’ll stop” His finger rubbed your clit through your panties as you through your head back against the seat.
“P-Please keep going” You panted out. You felt him move your underwear to the side and insert a finger in you and you let out a loud moan.
“That’s a good girl” He said as he rubbed your clit with his thumb
“Daddy please!” You whimpered, bucking your hips to try and get more friction.
“Shhh Princess” He pushed your hair out of your face and pumped another finger in you — You felt like you were floating as his hand was pumping in and out of you.
“Daddy” You mumbled in your foggy state of euphoria.
“Just let go princess, Let go for daddy” He rubbed at your clit and you felt your hips buck and your legs shake as you came hard. Alaric was still rubbing your clit in your high and pushing your hair out of your face — repeating “That’s a good girl, cum for daddy”
You let out a soft moan as you relaxed in your seat. You heard Alaric get out of the car and heard your door open. The next thing you knew he was lifting onto the car hood — Ass up and tugged down your skirt.
Smack You let out a whimper
“You are a naughty little girl, princess” You moaned at his words smack “Teasing daddy since you first arrived at the school — Infront of my daughters, your bestfriends. What would they think of you now?” smack
He flipped you over and undid your school uniform top. He played with your nipples “You are so beautiful darling”
You thanked him through tears, your ass was red and raw “Thank you daddy”
Alaric spit into his hand and rubbed it over your pussy “Be a good girl for daddy” You suddenly felt nervous that someone would see you — looking to the side you saw nobody else was on the road
Alaric’s tongue began lapping at your cunt. You reached down and grabbed his hair, humping at his face as his nose edged you on and on and on- until you were about to let that knot in your stomach explode and then- he pulled away.
He tsked at you “Daddy needs to cum too baby” He lifted your legs up and you moaned the loudest you ever have as you felt him enter you.
His thrusts were rough and jolted you against the car. He loved the way your boobs bounced against your face and you were shaking from the overstimulation. Alaric thrusted himself deep inside you as he felt his thrusts get messier.
“Daddy” You moaned as he sucked ok your nipple and when you felt his warm cum hit your pussy you felt the knot in your stomach explode as he did his last thrusts in you. You guys stayed like that for a few minutes until he pulled out. Pressing a soft kiss to your lips.
“Let’s not tell Lizzie and Josie about this yet”
“Yet?” You questioned
“You thought this would be a one time thing” You smiled.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead “Come on Princess” He helped you off the car and grabbed a wipe to clean you up.
if you could omit a storyline from the tvd show. which one would it be and why???
okay to complete this ask, i had to recall the main storylines from each season. this is what i produced. i will stick that below along with my decisions and thought processes.
also, i say it in the notes, but if this form of answering asks is too chaotic, i can switch back to the neat paragraph format i used in the avengers x kai post. i can cut out my gibberish and actually capitalize my sentences again 😅 just let me know which you prefer!
no tw except for spoilers all the way to season 8
the seasons & their storylines
1 - damon + kath / tomb
2 - stefan being a dick (+ wolves)
3 - mikaelsons
4 - shane + cure
5 - silas + travelers
6 - kai + geminis
7 - heretics + rayna cruz
8 - fucking sirens + stupid donovan family reunion
now... to judge them all and remove one...
alright… tbh, it took me way too long to remember the second villian of s7, because post-lily, my mind went blank
then it went, ah, yes, that stupid hunter storyline
and then i immediately selected that one bc i hated watching bonnie get abused again
this storyline was so stupid; the seven year time jump was so confusing
we were also given NO CONTEXT and MINOR HISTORY into bonnie and enzo's THREE YEAR RELATIONSHIP
like i love both these characters, but them together came out of nowhere
also… damon caring so little for enzo and vice versa in seasons 7 & 8 after all the history they had together PISSED ME OFF SO BAD, like they don't care for each other at all?? not even romantically, just platonic care / trauma bond, NOTHING?
anyway that's aside the point
i loved early season 7
nora, val, and mary louise were funny; matt being angry all the time was funny; bonnie and damon coming back from europe and immediately killing a heretic was funny
bonnie had so much sass in this season
but then plec had to drive her underground again with the magic pills & nearly killing her & all that shit
and i liked rayna, to some extent; she was pretty cool
but there was no reason to drag bonnie in the mix and make her kill her friends just because she took some stupid pills, just because some relative of enzo wanted her to open a vault
that st. john stuff was insanity; i still don't understand it
i don't think the characters did either; probably not the actors, either
i also don't like that the rayna storyline killed off nora and ML, like, let the lesbian heretics live, fuck off julie plec
and bonnie and nora should've had a fling but that's a different story
so yeah… the 7 years into the future storyline + hunters is the storyline i would erase
also… i don't know why caroline kept showing up with blood on her face and ranting about stefan, like, i was genuinely confused
it kept reminding me of season 2 when damon dated that newscaster but then stefan killed her.. or whatever happened...
anyway, let's take a look at a close contender… season 8 - donovans
why… the fuck… did the donovans have to have a family reunion?
i do not care about his dad, i do not care about his mom, i do not care about vicki, i don't care about matt, and i certainly don't care to see them all in one place
matt only survived bc zach and julie plec were hooking up i stg
this man and his whole family are weak links
the sirens didn't bother me all that much, compared to the donovans fucking existence
i actually liked seline, ish
[unless i just liked the actress bc she's in that containment series so i associate her with chris 💀]
but i liked that she was playing games with alaric
i think she and kai would get along well… fucking with alaric, nearly killing twins… plus his comment about wanting to fuck hot cannibals…
this post isn't about kai moving on
the sirens were hella annoying at first and i hated them, but as soon as they released damon & enzo, i started to like them
then they died
speaking of death, stefan's death was so stupid
i have a lot to say about that but that's for a different time
kelly ruining steroline wedding was so stupid
gtfo woman
another contender… the stupid travelers of season 5
what tf was happening bc i genuinely don't know
i have no idea what happened when tyler was possessed
i don't even know what to say bc i was so lost the entire time
but i wouldn't omit the storyline bc the spell that eradicated them is what kai sucked up later
and then he became all hot & dangerous
but where did they go after the spell kept them out??
where did they come from, where did they go??
i liked liv & luke, they were both grumpy & slightly dickish
the travelers shit introduced them so that's cool... bc they had to stop the dopplegangers or something, i have no idea
liv has a vendetta against life for no reason. she's just so angry
she doesn't even remember the Great Sibling Slaughter of 1994, she was 4. why are you so bitter, liv?
we'll never know ig
idk tho living with joshua parker post-1994 doesn't seem fun. doesn't seem fun pre-1994, but i feel he'd be even 10x angrier after, so maybe it's just the childhood trauma. sorry, liv
also i might've shipped her with bonnie just a little bit… just a smidge… thought bon would be real cute with another witch
aside the point
stefan's dopplegangers were great… i like both of them more than i like stefan
but the kill the dopplegangers thing was confusing and if not for early s5 with silas & quetsiyah + blonde twins in later parts, i would hate s5
other seasons' notes
season 4... i hated shane bc he was creepy, but i found it funny that bonnie was so into him. damon was so perturbed at this
oH! not a storyline, but omit them killing kol bc fuck elena. that's my other man
but i know why they did it
and i adored davina bringing him back
so ig not omit, but fuck them for killing him, especially for their own personal gain
kol died so that jeremy could dramatically yell while ripping off his shirt
season 2... so i just remembered that s2 was more than just a precursor to klaus / middle part elijah; it also had wolves
i forgot about them initially, bc i don't care about most the wolves
tyler, i have so many mixed emotions; hayley, hated in tvd, liked in s1-2 of the orginals, didn't care for her later on; mason, nice to look at, don't care about him; jewel, or jade, idk, blonde girl that was looking for mason and found tyler, hated her; the random apperance of stephen amell… gtfo off my screen
wouldn't omit the wolves bc they had a point (ish) and grew the show, but i just don't care
not to say i don't like werewolves bc i fucking love the werewolves (cough twilight cough) but i don't care for the tvd wolves - the originals included, fuck off jackson
that was mean… he was a good man, good husband… i just don't care, i'm sorry
oliver was way worse, let's focus on him instead. he can fuck off; jackson can stay
so yeah, the hunter curse thing in s7 needs to go
unless you're kai and there's sexual tension involved & you're mutually causing each other pain, don't hurt bonnie
the magic pills were confusing, don't hurt my lesbian heretics, either
st. john stuff made no sense; probably just an introduction to the armory so alaric could feel important again
one final note
i hate that the beautiful salvatore mansion was turned into a school for weasel-y children to destroy
children are messy, that thing's an antique
i hate alaric
oh, i know i also made a post about wishing kai didn't kill jo so that alaric wouldn't have feelings for caroline, but i don't know if i fully stand by that post
as much as i wanted kai to have a redemption arc, him being a heretic was fun (while it lasted)
if they were dedicated towards keeping kai alive (therefore omiting his death storyline), he'd be a great time
i can see him and damon becoming buddies & being absolute menaces together
damon fights it sooo hard at first, but can't help wanting to dive into kai's bad influence
he makes vampirism feel like vampirism again… raising hell and not being afraid to be the bad guy
while simultaneously getting bad looks from all his friends and promising he's trying to be kai's good influence, but we all know he's not trying that hard
jo would survive and raise her twins with her creepy husband
she'd live in fear of kai coming after her kids any given day, but would try to ignore the thought
maybe they move away & free us from ric for good
but while this sounds really fun, i don't know where the story would go from there
kai would definitely get stuck under lily's control with the rest of the heretics & he'd have a big fucking fit about it
if enzo got with bonnie with kai still alive, that would be ugly
he would totally fuck a siren… and then help them kill the twins
but…
him killing jo & raising absolute hell was very fun & i loved it
his sudden return in s8, effectively pissing off damon & ric was hilarious
loved that he got back & immediately killed a grill employee
just like old times
i really wished they didn't kill him off, but i did like his pop-up later on
so… the storyline I would omit:
hunters. as explained.
back-up omissions:
kai death
stupid legacies
                                                     Chapter 6
   When Elena finally arrives, she's soon transported from the cot in the nurse's office to the backseat of someone's car. The setting sun and all the movement was causing her vision to blur, so when it finally cleared she realized she was alone in the backseat Stefan’s car, with Damon in the front passenger seat. “Hiya sparky how are you feeling?” he said softly, giving her a smile, a genuine smile. Even if he was a massive dick most of the time, he could be a good guy, sometimes. “I’m ok,  I guess, no need for stitches, that's good right?” He replies almost instanlly “Yup, better than having you bleed out.”  she lets out a huff of laughter.
  The silence only lasts a few seconds before Damon opens the passenger side door and slides out of the car. Before she can ask what he's doing he closes the door and rounds the car to the backseat door to her left. He opens it and slides in, “So tell me,” he starts closing the door behind him “What really happened?” Rubbing her eyes she lets out a yawn. “I tripped and fell over someone's backpack and smashed my head against the corner of my teacher's desk.” She said sheepishly, embarrassed now that she realized this was the cover story she was giving. She was also careful not to mention the name of her teacher fearing she would get the same reaction from him as she got from Alaric. Her head starts to feel like it's splitting in two when Damon starts to laugh loudly. In the tiny space it was booming and paired with how sensitive she was right now, it was  agony. “Really sparky? Alaric made all this fuss because you tripped and fell?” All she could do was groan and shrug in response. “He chuckled again, quietly this time “Sorry. '' he pats her leg and sighs.
“Here I thought someone hurt you, well with the way Alaric was talking.” she paused to look at him “What?” she said puzzled. “Oh yeah he was freaking out, said something about your teacher or something, thought he might have hurt you.” She stays quiet after that trying to think of why Alaric had such a grudge against Mr.Mikaelson. “ Hey Sparky?” She's snapped from her stupor and focuses back on Damon as he speaks “Yeah Damon?” he looks out the car window for a second, then continues on with his question “Are you lying to me?” he puts his hands up in a form of surrender and continues. “I know you might not want Elena to know what truly happened, so I wont tell her if you don't.”  a beat of silence passes before she answers “Damon, why would I lie to you about giving myself an injury?” he sighs “Because maybe you didn't give it to yourself?” She can't tell if he really thinks she's lying or he’s just asking to ask. “Damon, I tripped and fell, what more do you want from me?” she slumps in her seat “The truth, come on sparky cough it up.”  “I am telling you the truth, I swear!”  her voice raised an octave, frustrated she was getting interrogated again apparently. Damon hums in thought “I for one think you're lying, but I can't force you to talk if you don't want to talk.” She waits for him to say something else but he doesn't. Before she processes what just happened she looks to her right to see Stefan and Elena walking out of the school. Stefan looks pissed Elena looks confused and ‘worried’.
. Stefan rounds the car getting into the driver's seat and Elena in the passenger one. “Hey Nov, how are you feeling?” her sister said. Shifting in her seat she clears her throat and repeats what she told Damon. “Thats good, getting stitches suck.” Stefan says, his voice has a bit of a bite to it, it just confirmed to her that he is indeed angry. He pulls out of the parking lot sharply, sending her flying straight into Damon. He catches her and lightly pushes her back in place “Hey man how bout you slow down a little huh?” Stefan scoffs propping his elbow against the door “How about you shut up Damon.” Rolling his eyes Damon doesn't comment further, deciding to leave it at that. The ride home is quiet and slightly strained with some questions seemingly unanswered. They were probably going to ask when they got home when everything was said and done, so all she could do was mentally prepare for it and enjoy the silence she had now.
    Pulling into the driveway she can see the silhouette of her brother sitting on the swing resting on the front porch. At the sight of the car he immediately gets up and starts making his way over to them. He quickly jogs over to her side and yanks her from the car by her arm as she opens the door. “Jeremy be careful!” She can hear her sister fuss but all she's worried about is returning the bone crushing hug he has her in. “I was so worried, when Alaric called I thought something bad happened, I'm so glad you're ok.”  She chuckled into his chest taking a deep breath and squeezing him tighter. “Yeah, I’m ok Jer, just a bit banged up.” he pulls away and holds her at arms length to examine the bandage on her head. “What happened?” “She tripped and fell.” she heard Damon say. Jeremy's sudden cackle startles her, “You tripped?” He questioned, he doubled over with his hands on his knees to keep him from falling over. “Alaric made so much fuss over your clumsy ass.” His laughter is contagious and soon she’s laughing hysterically too. Elena and the brothers watch on from the porch waiting for the both of them to stop giggling. “You guys come on, it's cold out, let's head inside.” Their laughter dies at Elena’s request “You're more than capable of walking into the house without us aren't you Elena? Why don't you go inside, we'll come in when we're ready.”  Elena crosses her arms and starts to pout “Fine, when your done Nova come talk to me.'' She turns and stomps into the house with the brothers right on her trail.
“Hey, are you sure you're ok?” Jeremy asks her, she gives him a small smile  “I’ll be ok, don't worry Jer.”  looking down he starts to kick the rocks underneath his feet. “Are you ok?” she asks. Looking away from her he answers “Yeah, I’ll be ok too.”  She nods and takes a deep breath; she also starts to kick at some of the rocks beneath her own feet.  Slowly she begins to walk to the open front door ``You coming?” she asks. Putting his hands in his pockets Jeremy kicks the rock away from his foot for good and replies “Yeah, lets go.”  Walking through the house, she maneuvers into the kitchen and heads straight towards the medicine cabinet, so she could get some painkillers. Her and Jeremy part ways her to the kitchen and him to his room “Night Jer.” “Night kid, hope you feel better in the morning.” she gives him another smile  “I hope so too. '' is her reply.
Walking into the kitchen she grabs the bottle of medicine and opens it when she hears Elena pipe up.   “Nova, can you sit down please?”  she nods her head as she spills the meds into her hand. “Yeah just a sec.” Grabbing a cup and filling it with water she downs the pills in one go. Taking a couple more sips before dumping the rest of the cups contents into the sink along with the cup she rounds the corner of the Island and leans up against the front of it “What’s up?” she questions.Elena rolls her eyes ``Sit down Nova.” She pulls out the chair next to her and slaps the seat a couple times for good measure. Sitting down on the chair, she can't help but feel nervous, the forgotten knot in her stomach making an appearance at the wrong time. “So I've heard different versions of this story but I want to hear from you what happened.”
 Nova doesn't think this kinda question deserves its own intervention but she answered hesintantly “Um.. I was getting up out of my seat to leave class and I tripped over some girl's backpack, and I fell onto the corner of the teachers desk.” Elena nodded her head a couple times, licking her lips, she asked another question. “What happened after, do you remember?”  “Remember, of course I remember I didn't lose my memory Elena I just hit my head.”  Stefan and Damon share a glance before Stefan clears his throat. “So do you or do you not remember what happened.” He leans back in his chair and crosses his arms. Nova scoffs “After I hit my head the teacher had someone go get the nurse and he gave me tissues to hold to my head, when the nurse arrived she put me in a wheelchair and took me to the nurses office, I stayed their for a while then Alaric showed up, flipped his shit because I was injured, told me I needed to switch classes, then you guys showed up and now were here.” Damon frowns  “Just what is the name of said teacher Nova?” Nova leans back in her chair and tilts her head to the side “Why do I feel like this is an interrogation?” Damon scoffs “Because it is sparky.” Elena hits him in the arm and Stefan whacks him in the head. “No it’s not Nov.” Elena glares at Damon ``We just want to know what happened from your perspective.” Nova rubs her eyes and yawns again. “Well I just told you my perspective, can I go shower, I have blood in my hair.” Stefan throws his head back, she expects a snap back or retort but he says nothing. “Not quite, there's a couple more questions I want to ask you.” she shifts in her seat uncomfortably  “What else is there to know?” All three of them look at each other then at her. “Well how about you answer my question sparky, who exactly is your teacher?” closing her eyes she rested her head on the table in front of her “Does it really matter?”  “Yes,” said all three in unison. “I don't remember his first name but his name is Mr. Mikaelson.” A deadly silence fills the room. The three of them share another look “And why did Alaric tell you to switch classes?” She honestly could say for sure so her best guess was. “Uh.. I think he said something along the lines of, he's a bad person, he brings bad luck, then he told me he thought it was in my best interest to switch classes, so i'm going to go down to the office tomorrow to see what I can do.”
   A deep frown settled on Nova’s face, and Elena noticed “Do you even want to change classes Nov?” she scoffs “ I mean kinda, I think Alarics blowing this whole thing out of proportion.” Leaning forward to put himself back in the conversation Stefan rests his head on his hands. “So why do it, why change classes.”  she ponders for a moment then answers him “Because Alaric said I needed to.” she shrugs.  This catches his attention “Really, so you don't want to switch classes yet you're going to switch classes because Alaric said so?” she shrugs again “Well, Arnold’s in this class so I could really use a class without him this year.”  Damon snorts and wiggles his eyebrows ``OoOoOoO Arnold. '' he said in a high pitched girly voice. “No not oooo Arnold, he needs to stay far far away from her.” For once she and her sister actually agree on something. “So your just going to change your schedule, just like that, it took Elena three weeks of asking for you to do your electives in the first place.” Nova shrugs once again, she notices she’s been doing that a lot lately when it comes to conversing with the Salvatore brothers.  “I don't know Stefan, Alaric just told me it was in my best interest to switch classes, has Alaric really ever been wrong?” They all answer roughly at the same time.  “Yes'', “All the time.” “When is he never.” Really shows you the trust the three of them have in him.
  “So Alaric just said to do it, and you're doing it?” Nova rolls her eyes  “I mean when you put it that way it just sounds bad.”   Stefan nods his head in consideration “ Yeah he compelled her.” Elena’s head snapps to look at him “Stefan!” she exclaims. He scoffs “What it's not like you were going to make me do the same thing too.” Nova is extremely confused “Compelled?” Her attention is brought to Damon when he moves her chair to face him. “Sorry for this Sparky.” before she can ask what he's talking about he grabs her arm and starts to speak. “You will forget this conversation happened, you don't know anything about compulsion , and you won't listen to Alaric's order.” Stefan stands up furious “Damon what the hell, we can't just leave her with him, he could-.” “Stefan,” Elena interupted “This could be a good opportunity for us to see what the Mikaelsons are really up to, because where there's one there's usually more of them not far behind.” Now she's really confused. “Guys what's going on, who are the Mikaelsons?” she examines the area around her slowly “How did I get in the kitchen?” Damon rolls his eyes and compels her again. “You won't remember any of this, sit. '' he points to the couch in the living room. Nova has no other choice but to walk over to the and sit down. She tries her best to follow their conversation.
 “Elena we cant send her to spy on those maniacs, I thought you wanted to keep her as far away from them as possible .” She can see Stefan start to pace around the kitchen “Stefan trust me, I know how it sounds.” “I don't think you do Elena, haven't we spent the last oh I don't know SIX YEARS  protecting her from our kind and our world, and now you just want to throw her in head first?”  Elena shifts from one food to the other “Not head first Stefan, she doesn't even have to know what they are or who they are, just compel her to ask him questions about his life, family, plans, anything, then she’ll come home everyday and report back to us.”  Stefan stops and whips around to face Elena “Elena she isnt a toy, and she certainly is not a soldier, and what if she’s lying what if Finn did hurt her and she doesn't know.” She throws her arms up “We don't know what happened Stefan, she’s clumsy ok, I believe her when she said she tripped...” She zoned out for a few seconds after that , Damon said in the car he thought Mr. Mikaelson hurt her when Alaric first called them. Is that what they thought she was ‘lying about’, did they really think he hurt her, and did they really think she was lying to them about it.
   “Stefan she’ll be fine, sparkys oblivious but shes not stupid, she can handle herself.” he shakes his head  “Well I for one dont like this, we might as well give her a death sentence.” Stefan practically slaps his face and drags his hands down it at Elena's reply. “It's not a death sentence, she'll be fine if you compel her!” he cocks his head to the side and holds his hands up “Hold on, did we not learn our lesson on messing with people's minds, Jeremy is a prime example for that, do you want to make her resent you too.” Elena stomps her foot and huffs like a child, “Damon you agree with me, don't you?” he shrugs “Yeah Elena I do, but not without precautions, sparky's one of the people in my life I can tolerate and I don't really want her to be another body in the ground.” She rolls her eyes ``Obviously we’ll make sure she's safe.” she retorted. Stefan pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs “Ok well, we should start now before sparky runs away because by the look on her face she's about to bolt.” Damon says with a chuckle. The three of them all turn to look at her and she takes an opportunity to analyze their faces. Stefans is full of concern and guilt, Damon looks indifferent, but he's hesitant she can tell, and Elena she looks ecstatic, happy, over the moon.
   “It's ok you guys, this way we have a set in stone way for me to stay safe from Klaus if he comes back.” Stefan crosses his arms ``By what, throwing your sister into the danger we've worked so long keeping her from, I’m all for keeping you safe but exposing her to everything all at once without her even realizing, I don’t know Elena.” She throws her head back “Stefan she’s gonna find out sooner or later, this way she'll have an experience with the supernatural first hand, while being safe.” “Safe, how?” he bites back. She's' silent for a second before she snaps her fingers  ``Alaric, we can ask him to watch over her.`` Stefan drops his head in defeat “He has classes to teach, he can't look after Nova , he has other kids to look after and worry about as well.” pushing herself to sit on the counter Elena answers his concern “He’ll be fine Stefan, he can listen to her heart beat every once in a while if anything.” Stefan’s silent for a moment. “Little brother I dont think your gonna win this one.” Damon says with a smirk. He sighs “Fine.” he says “But we're gonna do this my way.”
Elena and Damon follow Stefan as he enters the living room. “Give me her bracelet.” startled she looks down to her wrist to see it bare ‘when did I lose it’ she thinks. Her head snaps to the right when she feels the couch diviet under someone's weight . “Nova, look at me.” turning to Stefan she furrowed her eyebrows ``Stefan, what are you guys talking about what going on?” he sighs and turns to Damon ``Don't look at me like that, if we're doing this your way, this is all you.”  Stefans hand snaps out quickly and grabs the bracelet from Damon's extended hand. He takes her wrist with his other hand and she flinches hard. He stops what he's doing and looks at her, he looks hurt. “Elena, wha-” Stefan then forcefully turns her head towards him “You will go to school tomorrow and everyday after that and gather any kind of information about Finn Mikaelson's life, anything and everything you hear you tell us when you get home.” She nods her head “I’ll tell you when I get home.” she repeats “None of this happened, you didn't hear anything, you came home you ate dinner with us, then you went to bed.” He steps away and waits for the compulsion to kick . Nova covers her mouth as she lets out a loud yawn. '`I'm pretty tired guys, I've had a horrible day.’ standing up all the bones her body snap and pop as she stretches “Good night Nov see you in the morning.” Elena gives her small waves as she passes.
Reaching the top of the stairs she looks up and sees her brother standing a few feet away from her,and he looks pissed. “Hey Jer.'' Jeremy whips around and grabs her arm lightly when she goes to pass him. “Hey, what did you guys talk about?” she blinks and shrugs “Nothing much, I got some medicine and ate dinner with them.” he nods, clicking his tongue “Nothing else?” she raises an eyebrow “Um… yeah that's all. '' he nods again “So what did they want to talk about? '
“What?” letting go of her arm Jeremy starts to scratch his elbow, something he always did when he was agitated. “It's nothing never mind goodnight.”  With that, he bolts past her and down the stairs, out of her vision. “Uh, night?” shrugging, she turns around and enters her room, closing the door with a soft click, finally ending her long, horrible day just to start another one in the morning.
