Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai sareru - By Puni-chan (8/10)
Tumblr media
This one grew on me. I don't know if it's being funny on purpose or not, but it is funny. Tiararose and Aquasteed are a good couple, with extremely funny names. I also like the idea of an attractive yandere character who constantly, dramatically rejects other women. Sue me.
I double checked. This isn't listed as a comedy....but...hear me out. The silly funny bullshit makes it better.
Tiararose is stuck with an adulterous fiancé named Hartknights. He cheats on her blatantly with a girl named Akari, who is the first villain she meets. He believes Akari's bullshit. He tries to banish Tiararose...but...uh...she's nice? She has a good reputation. Everybody in court knows Hartknights has been cheating. Tiararose is also from an important family. Her dad is the current kings aide.
Tumblr media
Akari's flimsy story about bullying falls apart. It's really embarrassing...for them. Prince Aquasteed steps forward and he proposes. Aquasteed is the main lead from the sequel to the otome game Tiararose is currently in. So, he's automatically better. His country is richer. He's smarter and more handsome. He's secretly very possessive and he constantly fantasizes about kidnapping Tiararose. He's been hotly jealous of Hartknights for years, and now that idiot has thrown away the perfect fiance. Aquasteed proposes in public on purpose, to pressure the king into accepting the new engagement.
The king apologizes to Tiararose. He also removes Hartknights from his position as crown prince.
Tumblr media
It's obviously the right choice. Hartknights is not a good negotiator. He believes obvious lies as long as a cute girl is crying in front of him. He's not even king yet, and he tried to use his power as prince to banish his innocent fiance. His lover is a crazy, rude madwoman with no respect for court etiquette. Hartknights has a younger brother, who becomes crown prince instead.
It's...a happy ending???
Huh?
Ok, so Hartknights cheated because he was unhappy. He did it because he hates being responsible. He likes wild women like Akari. He still loves her, even after he realizes that Akari is interested in Aquasteed. (because he's stronger etc.)
Tumblr media
Akari tries to murder Tiararose. Akari also knows this world is an otome game. She thinks she deserves her happy ending. When Aquasteed appears she realizes that sequel characters are available for romance too. She immediately tries to seduce Aquasteed. It doesn't work. Akari's holy powers awaken. That's a big deal. If your country is protected by holy powers you get prosperity/luck as long as the holy person in question is alive. She is also a godly powerful mage. Every country in the world wants her, as soon as she manifests.
Even Aquasteed.
When Akari tries to blast Tiararose Aquasteed saves the day.
Tumblr media
He admits that Holy Power is tempting. He has a duty. It is his purpose to bring prosperity to his people, but he loves Tiararose. He loves her so much that he's willing to put in more work. He doesn't need a holy goddess for a bride, as long as she will have him. He literally spits on ultimate power, and he tells Tiararose she doesn't need to worry.
(Tiararose is pretty weak by the way, so his dedication is insane.)
Tumblr media
Hartknights tries to repair his relationship with Tiararose but it's way too late. At this point Akari is imprisoned, and Hartknights visits her. Hartknights feels guilty about the cheating, but that’s it. He genuinely loves Akari. Akari realizes this, and she gives up on prince Aquasteed. Hartknights and Akari are actually a believable couple. They are both immature thrill seekers, and Hartknights hates "proper" women. They...become a loving couple??? Tiararose forgives the murder attempt because killing the holy magic user would cause a war. Hartknights kinda gets the perfect life. His responsible little brother does all the work. His wife is a holy magic user, so he has power forever no matter what. The king decides that Akari and Hartknights will support the next king from behind, because they're too...uh (dumb and rude) to be politicians.
It's hilarious.
It makes sense.
It's an ok ending.
Tumblr media
Aquasteed brings Tiararose to his oceanside country. It's rich, pretty and full of fairies. Sky and forest fairies really like Tiararose. Being blessed by fairies is a good thing. It makes Tiararose a very valuable bride. Everything is going well. Aquasteed occasionally has possessive thoughts, but he's so happy that he doesn't need to be overprotective. Everybody likes Tiararose. Why wouldn't they? She's a merciful, well educated, high ranking lady.
Hooray.
Tumblr media
Wait.
There's another love rival. The heroine of the sequel isn't a Japanese schoolgirl or anything. She is a woman blessed by sea fairies, and she's also Aquasteed's childhood friend. She was his number one wife candidate before he fell in love with Tiararose. She's way scarier than Akari. Akari is a rude moron. Aishira is gorgeous, pleasant, and skilled at ladylike things like making jewelry. Also, her dominance over the sea makes her an amazing military asset.
Aquasteed knows about her talent for jewelry making. Aishira and Aquasteed design the accessories for Tiararose's wedding gown together. Aquasteed aggressively spoils Tiararose during their flashy engagement, and Aishira starts to feel jealous. Aishira is a dutiful lady. She never thought she would marry for love. Seeing Aquasteed dote on his bride makes her...melancholy.
But don't worry.
The king of the fairies, Keith, decides that he favors Tiararose. So, when Aishira tries to cause a scene at the wedding...haha...the king threatens to murder her on the spot.
Also, Akari is a wedding guest. Now that she's happily married to her lazy prince she has become a good friend. She also tells Aishira to shut the hell up and not interrupt the wedding.
Tumblr media
Ok, so Aquasteed picks up Tiararose bridal style. He walks right up to Aishira, and he rejects her in the church in front of everyone. While she is crying uncontrollably. He didn’t even notice her feelings, until the battle in the pews started. He truly does not give a fuck. Aquasteed is the sort of yandere that is capable of being nice. He is capable of being nice to people he doesn't like, but boy is he brutal.
Tumblr media
The story isn't over yet. Crail, the fairy King of the sky, comes down. He wants to befriend Tiararose. His gender is also ambiguous, but Aquasteed is very jealous of him. He acts overly familiar with Tiararose, and this causes issues with the sea. The Sea King loves Crail, so she starts harassing Tiararose. This is such a silly, long, magical soap opera. You'll get at least one laugh out of it.

Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai Sareru 2
Tumblr media
Author: Punichan
Illustrator: Akeno Naruse
Label: B’s Log Bunko
Release Date: 15 February 2017
My Score: 3 out of 5
The volume starts with Tiara and Aqua returning to Marineforest, Aqua’s country, to announce their engagement and prepare for the wedding but it doesn’t take long for them to run into Aishila, the protagonist of the sequel game who Akari warned Tiara about. Thankfully, it would appear that she is not someone who was isekai’d, like Tiara and Akari were, and she doesn’t seem to have any romantic interest towards Aqua but Tiara can’t help but feel anxious and jealous. To make things more dramatic, Marineforest is home to many fairies and the forest fairies have become enamoured with Tiara and this includes the king of the forest fairies, Keith, who takes on the appearance of a handsome man and flirts with Tiara.
I gotta say, Aqua really needs to up his game in the communication department. I really do not know why he didn’t give Tiara a heads up and say that he needed to spend some time with Aishila due to her immense power meaning bad things for the kingdom if she’s unhappy. Tiara would still probably get jealous but at least she wouldn’t be left in the dark. He pulled this shit to a lesser extent in the first volume with Akari but there it made more sense because he probably didn’t consider that Tiara would get anxious over their relationship but he should know better now. And Tiara really should feel more comfortable with communicating her anxieties to Aqua so hopefully that character development will come.
The setting for this volume is far more fleshed out than it was last volume, to the point where it almost feels like a completely different world. Tiara mentions that she has weak magic and she can infuse her magic into her cooking to provide some light healing effects and I’m like “was magic ever mentioned in volume 1? Like, I know that Akari had some magic but I thought that was something unique to her”. Despite the inconsistency with the world, I did think that it was interesting with the fairies and their powers and everything so I didn’t mind it too much.
Overall, though, I just thought this volume was okay. I did enjoy it more than the first volume and Akari is definitely my favourite character in the series due to some of her actions at the end of this volume but I’m still not really invested in the romance and drama that is the core of this series so I wouldn’t rate the volume higher than 3 stars.
Adaptation Notes:
The manga continues to be enjoyable and I really like the cute designs for the fairies. There are a couple of small scenes that were cut but they didn’t make much of a difference to the story so I’m fine with them being cut. The art is so cute that I still would say that the manga is a more enjoyable read than the light novel for me.
I am interested in reading volume 3 but, again, I’m just not that invested in the romance so I’m going to take a break between the volumes because I have some series that I want to read more than this series. Hopefully, I will eventually get around to reading volume 3 but it’s just not a priority at the moment. I still definitely recommend the series if you want a light and fluffy romance though.

What is a Role Isekai?
So a while ago I made this post:
https://wonderingwhereileftreality.tumblr.com/post/181794156578/what-i-love-and-we-need-more-of-reincarnation
and given the amazing response from it, and the suggestions I read through, I think I finally managed to coin the term for something in the ballpark of what these manga/webcomics are. The term I came up with was “Role Isekai”
So what defines a Role Isekai? Here are the traits I’ve found so far:
- Main Character (MC) reincarnates somewhere; usually some medieval and/or fantasy world, though it can deviate.
- MC finds their self in a particular role in a story they’ve seen before; sometimes it’s a novel/game they came into contact with in their past life, sometimes they’ve time-traveled before a certain tragic event
- If the MC finds their self before/during the event, they usually set up with 1 of 2 goals: either they try to deviate from fate (normally because it results in their death/exile), or they try to stick close to it and end up deviating it anyway.
- If the MC finds their self after the event, they have to face 1 of 2 slightly different goals: either they find some way to escape their punishment, or they embrace that punishment and end up with characters coming after them anyway
- There’s usually some kind of romance/harem involved, though it’s not ultimately required
and these are the elements of a Role Isekai. Some of the entries I made on my previous post fit these criteria, some don’t and are just typical Reincarnation Isekai (which I should make a post about later). Here are the examples of Role Isekai I’ve taken from my list:
- Akuyaku Reijou Nano de Last Boss wo Katte Mimashita/I'm a Villainous Daughter, So I'm Going to Keep the Last Boss
-  Akuyaku Reijou no Torimaki Yameyou to Omoimasu/I'm Thinking of Quitting the Villainess' Entourage
- Akuyaku Reijou no Tsuihougo! Kyoukai Kaikaku Gohan de Yuuyuu Sister Kurashi/The Banished Villainess! Living the Leisurely Life of a Nun Making Revolutionary Church Food
- Akuyaku Reijou wa, Shomin ni Totsugitai!!/The Villainess Wants to Marry a Commoner!!
- Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai Sareru/The Villiainess Is Adored by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom
- Albert-ke no Reijou wa Botsuraku wo Goshomou desu/The Daughter of the Albert House Wishes for Ruin
- Koushaku Reijou no Tashinami/Accomplishments of a Duke’s Daughter
and many more.

Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai Sareru 1
Tumblr media
Author: Punichan
Illustrator: Akeno Naruse
Label: B’s Log Bunko
Release Date: 15 October 2016
My Score: 3 out of 5
This was a cute and fluffy romance light novel and, while I did enjoy it, there’s not much more to it. If you’re craving a fluffy romance series and you like otome game isekai, I’d recommend this.
Story:
Genre: Reincarnated-as-a-villainess, Otome Game Isekai, Romance, light novels for ladies
Tiararose regained her memories of her past life and realises that she has reincarnated as the villainess of an otome game that she played in her previous life. This happens the day before the graduation party, where she will meet her doom, so there’s no time to change things around so she resolves herself to her fate. However, when her fiancee, Hartknights, is breaking things off with her in front of everyone, the prince of a neighbouring country, Aquasteed, comes to her rescue and proposes to her. Aquasteed was a romantic option in the continuation for the game that Tiararose was unable to play before her death and it turns out that he’s had a crush on her for a long time. Her father leaves the decision up to Tiararose on whether to accept the proposal or not and it’s time for her to decide her fate for herself.
This volume doesn’t really have much to offer aside from the romance that the volume focuses on and I think whether you like this volume or not will depend on whether the romance works for you or not. It mostly worked for me because I just wanted Tiararose to be happy so I was rooting for their romance but I do think that it’s a bit quick and could have been developed better, especially on Aquasteed’s side of things. Aquasteed likes Tiararose because he often visited the academy’s library and, outside of the window, he could see Tiararose as she ate sweets and read books and was enamoured by how her expression could change so much while reading a book. So, yeah, they’re romance is very cute and fluffy and I don’t recall Aquasteed ever doing anything with Tiararose without her consent (it’s a low bar, I know) but I don’t think that the volume does anything to really make it stand out from other romance series or otome game isekai series and the climax of the volume feels quite rushed and weak.
I wouldn’t rate it above 3 stars because of those issues and because I’m not really much of a romance fan so, while I did find the volume enjoyable to read because it was so fluffy, I still couldn’t really get interested in the story.
Character:
Tiararose is someone who puts a high value on the rules of the society that she lives in. Her alleged “bullying” towards Akari, the heroine, comes from Akari’s lack of regard for societal rules as Tiararose warns her against acting too familiar with men who are already engaged and reprimands her for acting inappropriate towards the prince who is of a much higher status of her. Even after she regains her memories, she’s still very respectful of the rules in the way that she acts, especially when it comes to Aquasteed so the revelation that she was isekai’d doesn’t change her personality much. She also has a massive sweet tooth and, because Hartknights was a dick, she’s inexperienced in romance so her reactions to Aquasteed’s advances is very cute. I felt affection towards Tiararose pretty much instantly and it was easy for me to root for happiness and her romance with Aquasteed as a result. While her relationship with Akari is more enemies/eventual rivals, she does have a cute female friendship with her maid, Fillyn that somewhat makes up for it.
I got to be honest, I have trust issues and Aquasteed seemed too perfect to be true so I kept on waiting for him to do something dickish and he never did. He’s just a genuinely nice guy who I unfortunately don’t care much about as a character but I’ll admit that he is a good romantic interest for Tiararose and I think readers who are more into romance than I am are going to swoon over him a lot.
Akari is alright. Like her name implies, she also came from Japan and she is pretty selfish because she is the position of “heroine” and thus believes that she should be able to take whatever she wants, including Aquasteed. I found her entertaining but she doesn’t have much depth here. Hartknights is one of the worst characters I have ever read about and I hate him so much. He’s just a very annoying character and he gets way too much screen time that he really does not need.
I do want to give a special mention to the king and Tiararose’s dad because they both are very supportive of her and recognise that she is way too good for Hartknights and are like “get it, girl!” about her romance with Aquasteed so they’re great. Tiararose’s servants, especially Fillyn, are very supportive of her and are adorable.
Adaptation Notes:
The manga adaptation features art by Hoshina and is ongoing with 6 volumes currently released. I definitely do prefer the manga to the light novel so far. It doesn’t change much from the light novel but a few scenes are rearranged, I think one scene is cut and there’s less narration. I’d recommend it over the light novel because the art is very cute so it works really well and ends up being more enjoyable to read as a result.
Recommended for:
I recommend this to anyone who wants to read a sweet and fluffy romance in an otome game isekai setting.
The first 7 volumes are available through BookWalker’s Kadokawa subscription so I probably will read the second volume but we shall see if it can hold my interest.
