But how was Alicent the "epitome of evil stepmother"? She and Rhaenyra got along until Daemon started grooming Rhaenyra and Alicent began having sons (rivals for the throne). She questioned Rhaenyra's safety around her sworn sword before. Both as adults said nasty things about each other. Sounds like normal nobility to me. Alicent's priority was her own children over Rhaenyra, that's all, same as Rhaenyra prioritized her sons over her stepdaughters.

SHOW ALICENT IS THE LOML

Show Alicent is so much more interesting and complex than Book Alicent and for me, this change is one of the best the show has made.

Instead of a one-dimensional evil mother-in-law, we have a character torn between conflicting motivations, driven by good intentions, who embodies the heart in conflict with itself and who has a true narrative arc.

I LOVE AICENT HIGHTOWER (In the show) cuz in the book there was no redeeming qualities about her or backstory that I'm aware of.
