Person: Babies? I thought-
Bruce, dragging them over to a group of people: Here we go! Meet my precious angels.

Damian, 14: Greetings. Goodbye now.

Bernard, on hour 76 of no sleep and hyped on coffee mixed with an energy drink going on a 45 minute rant about his latest conspiracy theory: sorry what was the question
The poor reporter who just wanted to get the next scoop and go home: I asked how it feels to be dating a Wayne
Bernard, having a flashback to this morning when Tim didn’t give him a goodbye kiss: Oh its great, I get constant access to the Dilf that is Bruce Wayne

LMAO someone give Dick Grayson a medal for understanding that when Bruce stalks you and asks to take your blood, it's his way of showing he loves his kid.

Jason and Tim are arguing, Jason brings up how Tim stole his mantle
Tim, yelling: I did what I was supposed to do!! I got an adult! It's not my fault the adult wouldn't help! I had to take matters into my own hands, I will not be shamed for that! If you want to be mad at someone? Don't be mad at me. Or Bruce. Or Alfred. You wanna be mad at someone? Be mad at Dick Grayson, because when I saw that Batman was falling apart at the seams, I went straight to him! I asked him to help, when Batman was going to tear Gotham apart, piece by piece, in his grief, I BEGGED Dick to help, and he said no, so I had to step up because otherwise no one would.
Jason, not angry anymore: Wh- Tim, you were, you were 13! It wasn't your job to fix a grown man, you didn't have to be the one to save him...
Tim: Then why didn't anyone help!!
Jason: Tim...
Tim: why didn't anyone help?

"No, Jason, you don't get it! When they look at you, that's what they see, they see YOU, but when they look at me? They still see you. That's all they've ever seen. Don't you get it? I was never a replacement or a poser, I have always been your placeholder. I'm just a Jason shaped person they got so they could talk to me until they were done grieving. I was never meant to stay, but then you came back and you attacked me, and my Dad died, and Damian showed up and Bruce went missing, and suddenly it had gone on too long, gone too far, for anyone to be able to ask me to leave. I'm only still here because it would be somewhat cruel to ask me to leave. That's IT. When I walk into a room, I still expect someone to call me by your name, I still expect someone to look through me with those sad eyes they always had when you were gone, you weren't here while they were grieving you, you don't know what it was like. You think you can just walk in here after being dead for years and just understand my situation? You can't, that's not how it works. Now for godsake, can't you just leave me alone for once? Your face has already been haunting me for YEARS, just, please, please leave me alone. Please."

Red Robin AU: Maximum Angst
Tim left to go save Bruce. It didn't matter that no one believed him. It didn't matter that his loved ones, people he trusted, tried to stop him. It didn't matter that everyone wrote his theories off as some sort of mental breakdown and grief stage denial. None of that mattered.
Tim was right, and he was going to prove it.
Two years after Tim left, Dick gets a phone call. It's from Superman.
During a JL mission, some villain gets away from a large JL team up by mentioning one fact: Bruce died in the timestream waiting for someone to save him. He had left clues, as many as he could given his circumstances, of his continued existence and predicament.
Dick, with the help of Damian and some of the JL, leaves Gotham to gather the evidence. Even after two years, art curators and museums are weirdly tense when he brings up the exact piece he wants to see.
A few months of carefully collecting his dad's last momentos occur before Dick has the realization: Tim was right.
Oh gods, Tim!
He can't believe, with all the responsibilities he had to juggle, that he just forgot about Tim!
This cues another frantic search as Dick retraces all of Tim's steps. The man allows himself a little laugh when he realizes that Alvin Draper is wanted for being an art thief.
Despite the sloppily covered trails, Dick finds himself at a dead end. The last location Tim might have gone to is in the middle of a desert. When Dick arrives at the spot, an LoA assassin is waiting for him.
Batman is glad that he's dressed in his uniform, he's glad that Damian didn't accompany him, and Dick prepares for the attack.
The assassin regards him neutrally.
The vigilante lowers his fists, but he's still tense in preparation. The assassin rolls their eyes and holds their hand out.
There's a com.
"What's that for?" Batman growls out.
Another eye roll from the assassin as they sigh. "Ra's knows you're looking for Timothy Drake-Wayne."
Hesitantly, the retired acrobat plucks up the com. After placing it in his ear, a smug voice greets him.
The Demon's Head cordially invites Batman to dinner.
Great.
Dick, wanting to find out where his brother is, has no choice but to follow the assassin to what's most definitely a trap.
Later, when Dick is haunted by the memories he desperately combs to liberate himself from his guilt, he'll darkly chuckle as he longs for it to have been a trap.
When the doors swing open to reveal Ra's al Ghul lounging at the head of the table, a feast is laid out before the young man. He forces himself to sit at the opposite end and listen to Ra's prattle on and on about how extraordinary Tim is. How the young outcast knew his father was alive. How he had to resort to taking Ra's hand in order to finish his quest.
As the evening is winding down, Dick had only spoken a handful of sentences. Ra's swirls a wine glass and gazes wistfully into its crimson hue.
"It's a shame, Richard, that it took you twenty-six months to scour for information about Timothy. I'm sure the realization of such would bring him despair."
There's a pause as the Detective's successor runs mental calculations. It has been thirty months since Tim left Gotham.
Emerald eyes, not too dissimilar to the shade of green Dick's son owns, bear down on a man too small for Batman's mantle.
"He died knowing his death would kill his father. It's a shame we lost them both that day."

l feel like bruce wouldn't have no clue whatsoever as to what happened while he was lost in time--by that i mean Tim's Quest to Find Bruce Wayne. Tim's Missing Spleen. Dick's decision to make Damian robin.
when bruce is first rescued by booster gold, he doesn't think much about tim's absence, doesn't think much of anything, really, he was just glad he was home. weeks pass and he's getting to know damian, reconnecting with dick, (and attempting to reconnect) with jason...
he'd probably be sitting at lunch, mid-bite, when all of a sudden, Someone is missing. obviously, damian is at school and dick has his life in bludhaven and jason wouldn't step within a thousand meters of the manor on a good day, so it takes him a few seconds
because it wasn't missing as in he's not present, currently, right now, in this house, missing as in
where did he go?
he hadn't seen tim in...months. when was the last time he'd seen him? probably the watchtower right after booster gold had dropped him off. he hadn't even actually seen the boy. just heard he had found him...
how Had tim found him? how had tim been able to when everyone else thought he was dead? So he makes it his quest to find answers and obviously, he doesn't get it from dick. His eldest clams right up at the topic, refusing to give him a straight answer. the longer it took to find answers, the more antsy he was. what had happened while he was gone?
where was tim? where had he been? so he asks alfred, to which the butler replies with vague, utterly unhelpful answers (he had a feeling that the butler truly, did not know either, and was also at a loss as to where timothy drake had been)
i feel like bruce would be the type to either obsess over it or try to ignore his gut feeling that Something Is Wrong by burying himself under case upon case upon case. then one day, he sees it:
it was obviously meant to be something he'd never find, encased behind password upon password, firewall upon firewall, and when he does break through what he thought had been a rather odd file given all the protection and layers, his heart drops
file after file, report after report, all written by and for one person and one person only: tim. timothy, oh, his son.
fingers pressed to his lips, only dim blue light of the batcomputer, he reads, and reads, and reads
it doesn't end. just when he thinks it's finally done, he stumbles upon the splenectomy
he can't help but shudder a soft sob when he's finished, silently crying into his hands because had he even thanked tim? had he even done anything more than glance at the boy that had sacrificed...everything to find him?
p2 soon bc i have to go!

God sometimes I just get stuck thinking about how complex and heartbreaking the dynamic between Dick and Tim post Bruce's trip in the time stream would be. I know people tend to go all the way in one camp or the other, picking sides and whatnot, but the dynamic is so much more heartbreaking when you know that they both did the best they fucking could and it really, horribly, boils down to the fact that Dick, stretched thin as he was, had two traumatized children he felt responsible for but only viewed one as a child, so he focused on that responsibility, while the kid he viewed as an equal was also a traumatized kid needed more attention than Dick had to spare
It's heartbreaking and it makes me cry, but I honestly think the tragedy of acknowledging that it boiled down to a situation where Damian and Tim both needed attention and Dick just didn't have that amount of attention to give just gives that newly created dynamic the complexity it deserves
I saw a fic that said in it's notes "Dick is crushed under the weight of eldest daughter syndrome and Tim is lost at sea with middle child syndrome" and y e ah. Tim and Dick were closest to each other.......when it was easy for them to be close. It meant that Dick got to know Tim as a kid who could handle shit and Tim got to know Dick as a brother more than a caretaker. It meant that when Dick got more demanding responsibilities, he thought that Tim was reliable enough to give some space. It meant that while Dick was juggling to keep everything up in the air, he knew he couldn't catch every ball every time, but Damian was made of glass and he would shatter if Dick dropped him, but the Timmy he knew was rubber, durable, bounces back. He could skip a few rotations.
But Tim had been going through so much, was more like a robber ball that had been fucking frozen. He could still bounce back, but not nearly as much, not nearly as well, and when Dick fumbled trying to catch him because he expected that he wouldn't have to right away, Tim was suddenly out of reach.
It's a collection of errors and no one did anything wrong. It's a tragedy because Dick and Tim were close and knew each other well, but then context and circumstances changed and the rift happened and I get feral thinking about and consume fanfictions every time because FUCK

What if Janet went into Labor with Tim during a Wayne gala and Bruce helped deliver him, but Bruce didn’t realize Tim was the same baby
Until a random stakeout/confrontation with a villain/league meeting, he remembers suddenly and just straight up goes
“I birthed you”
He then starts to think back to all the other women he helped and like...
– Teenage Bruce stopping in the middle of his day to help Mary Grayson call the hospital when her water breaks in public
– His first test of people skills as Batman is looking after Sandra Wu-San, not knowing she'd become Lady Shiva
– A short while later Batman does the same for Sheila Haywood because Willis didn't bother to show up
– Arthur Brown being too absorbed in his scandals and early scheming to be present so Batman swoops in for Crystal
– Then Janet Drake going into labor at a Wayne gala and Bruce helping her through that
– Couple years later, Batman keeping Elaine Thomas company in the twilight hours
– He stops to help Talia amidst a dangerous battle, not knowing the baby is his and her maintaining the secret
– He gets sidetracked on a time travel mission and assists a stranger, not realizing it's Mary Pennyworth
