🪨👀🪨 Edit. Medusa, Gian Lorenzo Bernini . . LO SGOMENTO DI MEDUSA - La figura della giovane, trasformata in mostro dalla dea Atena, compare di frequente nella storia dell'arte. Quasi sempre è raffigurato il momento in cui Perseo, trionfante, esibisce la sua testa mozzata (Cellini), oppure si rappresenta soltanto il capo anguicrinito, ormai troncato (Rubens). Lo stupendo busto marmoreo dei Musei Capitolini, generalmente assegnato (ma non senza voci contrarie) a Gian Lorenzo Bernini, fa eccezione: la testa di Medusa è ancora attaccata, per l'appunto, al busto, e sul volto non si legge la consueta espressione mista di ira e di terrore, con la bocca spalancata, bensì un'espressione di infinita tristezza, che deforma gli occhi e le sopracciglia e fa dischiudere le labbra. Come chiarisce Steven Ostrow in un bell'articolo recentemente pubblicato su "Arion", il momento scelto da Bernini è un altro: non quello della morte di Medusa, ma quello della sua punizione. Come racconta Ovidio, Atena, irata che la bella giovane si sia accoppiata con Poseidone all'interno di un tempio a lei sacro, trasforma i bei crini della ragazza in sibilanti serpenti. Sul volto lo scultore ritrae dunque lo sconfinato sgomento che invade allora la povera Medusa. La metamorfosi, sottolinea Ostrow, è il momento berniniano per eccellenza, e qui ne abbiamo ben tre: quella di Medusa in mostro, quella della carne in marmo e quella pure in marmo dello spettatore, pietrificato dallo sguardo della creatura mitologica e dalla maestria dello scultore. .
