let’s bring this back around! who are each of your ocs top 5 favorite cats?
this took me like 500 years to answer and i'm so indecisive even in posting this, however... :) lists assembled! some of them are in order, some aren't, some have multiple cats filling one "slot" because they're usually family and "equal" in the sense of being a favorite. i'm also doing my best to limit dead characters unless they're recently deceased, but...some are too important to leave out.
also the striked out text is for repressed feelings, because i can't get enough of that shit.

i feel liiiike maybe Morninglight might have the sort of shrug emoji at the rules type beat that would get acorn to loosen up with regards to even thinking about a cross-clan romance, plus, like... he’s pretty : ) Morninglight might be able to get Acornfang out of his shell a little more, show him a different side to looking at things, Acornfang could do the same in return... it might not be very long lasting relationship but i feel like it would be a little fling where they could both end on good terms and learn from it

acornfang seems to inevitably be walking the path of falling for nutfur, and i think they’re genuinely super good for each other. like, acornfang spent a majority of his youth mourning his mother and going through difficulties surrounding that, but i feel his bond with nutfur kept him from really falling into the depth of his sorrow. nutfur is a good support for acornfang, and he brings out a lighter side of him that really seems to compliment nutfur’s own easygoing and friendly nature. with nutfur just recently losing his own family member, i can only assume acornfang’s doing the same duty of helping him through that struggle in return, and i think it’d be sweet for them to come closer together and out on the other side of their mourning as a pair.
juniperpaw miiiight have something building with weaselpaw, but because i am selfish and biased towards my own interests, so! a more random ship that i think would be intriguing would be webpaw and juniperpaw. i feel like deep down they have pretty similar motivations and a desire to do good / be impressive in some manner, but they cope with that in very different ways. to me, juniperpaw would do best with someone who can match her more stubborn manner, and webpaw’s a good contendor there, being quite stubborn herself. they’d probably butt heads to start out with, but i think with time juniperpaw might come to admire webpaw and webpaw would realize there’s more to juniperpaw than being a bit stuck up...it’d be a cute rivals to lovers arc!
brightheart is a cat i can’t actually see going further than flirtation with anything cross-clan, so considering her options within creekclan, i actually think that she and echopaw could be interesting. they were both trained by currentstar and therefore could maybe meet / get to know each other via that shared connection, and i just feel that echopaw would be attracted to the sort of confident aura brightheart has. or...puts on. she’s a lot more sensitive than she lets her clanmates know, and if echopaw was able to get close to her, i think she’d be a good cat to help brightheart handle her feelings. i mean, echopaw handles quill who is much more emotional and volatile, so perhaps with time, she and brightheart would find a way to understand each other.
mothfur really needs to find her place in nettleclan, and figflower is also another warrior i feel struggles with belonging. if they were able to get to know each other, i really think that they’d be able to find that sense of purpose / find a place to belong...to each other! it might take some time for them both to emerge from their respective shells, but together they’d be stronger than they are apart.
lilystar’s perfect match is palestar, no i will not apologize, no i will not elaborate.
pumpkinpelt is a sweet boy who needs an equally sweet boy to match him, and okay, he’s an npc now but...i actually really like the idea of pumpkinpelt and minkcloud. pumpkinpelt himself never got entirely wrapped up in the palestar shenanigans of his clanmates, but he’s supported a lot of them through it, and i think minkcloud could use that sympathy and genuine understanding. minkcloud’s also the sort of cat who just genuinely is a sweetheart deep down, misguided but sweet, and seeing him come around and learn to trust pumpkinpelt after all that happened in fogclan...it’d be cute. don’t @ me.
i’m going to cop out on honey frost because i’ve typed so much here and simply repeat that i think he and little bee would be precious together.

JAGGEDCLAN
Spidertooth has a lot of friends and makes them extremely easily. They're friendly, their open to mpst cats and love being like that. Despite that there are definitely a few cats that they prefer over others, and they're almost all their age and cats who went through a lot of the same stuff they did.

Leech Stream doesn't exactly... have true friends at this point. He's really not that old, but he stands as the second oldest cats in the tribe and one of the last two of his generation with Cold Sun. He mostly guides the younger cats in the tribe and swallows his own worries, feeling like he shouldn't burden the young with an old man's worries.

Standing at 4th oldest in the tribe, there's a lot she doesn't air out.

But now she is gone, away with Frecklecloud doing who knows what, hanging on to 2 friendships she knows she's not allowed to have anymore.

so i only sort of cheated by combining some families into one number...listen. it had to be done, okay? i separated cats if there was a genuine instance of my character preferring one sibling over another or something, but generally, siblings + kits stay on the same tier. also i included dead cats. as minimally as i could, buuut...
NETTLECLAN
Crowstar admittedly doesn’t have a lot of deep relationships with currently living cats...he’s friendly enough with just about all of his clanmates, but a lot of his best times are stuck in his past. He loves the majority of his family and the she-cats who raised him (Swanface, Applenose, the whole nursery squad) but the cats below are the ones who he’s still the most actively fond of or outright stuck on in a case of a lot of the deceased ones.

Flintpaw is...not good at making friends. A lot of cats he’s cared for in his life are gone now, and currently he’s devoted himself almost exclusively to his sister and her kits. He still has a certain fondness for the tom even if he’s seemingly moved on to brighter things than hanging out with NettleClan’s failure of a medicine cat.

Poppycloud has always had problems forming deeper relationships. She didn’t think of friends or loved ones was something she was allowed to have for a lot of her life, and that greatly impacted her ability to socialize and bond. She’s great at surface level conversations, but only a few cats have been able to breach her walls and get to know the real Poppycloud. Amberleaf just barely missed the cut on this list, because as much as Poppycloud misses her sister, she really doesn’t know her at all anymore.

Peachflower is an anxious wreck, and as a result, isn’t really much of a social butterfly...the majority of her favorite cats are family, with Hollyfur as the one exception. She’s alright with her social circle being relatively confined, and she does get along well with most of her clanmates outside of these cats, but the ones listed here are the only ones she feels totally comfortable with. As an honorable mention, throwback to Blue, her very first friend...she still misses her sometimes.

Beestripe grew up feeling rather lonely despite having two siblings and his father around. His sister Petalfrost outshone him a lot in their childhood, and he didn’t really learn how to branch out until he grew older and became closer to Currentstar. He still cares deeply for his family in Honeynose and Cinderstar, but feels more comfortable reaching out to new cats now. Special shout out for Mintwhisker, who he’s not particularly close with, but is a cat who he’s fond of!

Beyond family, Starlingstep is admittedly growing a bit soft on Eveningstorm, and oh look, who’s that there at the bottom, hmm? The sister she insists is dead to her? You can’t fool anyone, Starlingstep. I know your secrets.

Now that Palestar’s gone, Coppertail still clings desperately to the memory of her and the mother she wanted her to be, but aside from her slowly growing camaraderie with Privetcloud, she’s sort of reverted back to a state of having no real friendships.

Tiger Breeze...doesn’t like anyone. That’s sort of her thing. Except she’s starting to realize that being totally closed off isn’t working for her, at least in the case of her nieces...beyond them, the two cats Tiger Breeze could even claim to mildly like are the two spring-borns she sees as allies. Not friends, really, but cats who she can at least tolerate...I literally could not bump her up to a total of five cats no matter how hard I tried, though.
