I had these Wattles videoed as I drove back from Taree and then stopped to get some better shots. Firstly the silver wattle was everywhere (Acacia dealbata), also called blue wattle or mimosa (not that mimosa), these wattles are in the legume family and are native to southeastern Australia in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory and widely introduced in Mediterranean, warm temperate, and highland tropical landscapes. Secondly another Acacia, a dear little one with almost white flowers. Acacia dealbata is a lovely delicate evergreen tree that has a ridiculous amount of small bright yellow pom pom type flowers in spring. It isn’t frost hardy, but that doesn’t bother us coastal dwellers as it is very suited to our mild climate and it also makes an excellent screening tree. I have planted this little chap in our window box along with some Cylcamens for Winter interest.
