I had gotten thinking about Avatar the Last Airbender when Zuko confronted Ozai during the eclipse invasion. Zuko gave a little speech, and I took that, made some alterations, and that's what this is.
This also expresses my desire for Hunter to be able to do magic now, because Flapjack is still there, just in a slightly different way.
The fully animated bit was honestly just supposed to be two frames, but I made some posing whoopsies and apparently fixing that required animation. Don't question my logic, it worked out in the end. I'll make a dedicated post for it later, so keep an eye out for that. I just want this to gain some traction first.

Kumon: Sumi-san's play was super entertaining!
Kazunari: Even though you were a guest performer, your presence was totally strong~.
Muku: You played an excellent part...!
Tenma: The story and the production were enjoyable, too.
Yuki: And the costumes.
Misumi: Ehehe!
Izumi: (I was surprised to hear Misumi-kun received an offer for a guest performance, but I'm glad to see he's doing well.)
Izumi: (He's got extraordinary acting sense, so I hope he'll get more opportunities like this.)
Kazunari: I'm scrolling SNS right now, and Sumi's reputation is popping! People are even saying they're gonna be his #1 stans after this!
Muku: Even though it's only opening night, people already feel that way?
Kumon: That was quick~.
Yuki: I mean, this is SNS people we're talking about. It's like Kazunari-to-Kazunari communication.
Kumon: The story this time was about a journey, so now I wanna go on a trip too.
Misumi: Yeah, yeah, I get that!
Muku: Should we have another training camp?
Yuki: Training camps and traveling are completely different.
Izumi: It's nice to just take a relaxing vacation once in a while.
Tenma: I won't be able to do anything for a while. I've got a lot of location shoots to do for dramas, so my schedule's packed.
Kumon: Really~.
Muku: You mentioned having to record a variety show yesterday.
Misumi: Tenma's super busy~!
Yuki: Then why don't we just go without him?
Tenma: Oi!
Kazunari: Ah, I'm actually preparing for a group exhibition right now, so I'm also kinda busy.
Izumi: Speaking of, you said the process was really difficult, right?
Kazunari: I've finished my piece for the exhibition, but I've still got a lot to do.
Kumon: Sumi-san's also in the middle of his performance, so we'll have to wait until everyone settles down again, huh~.

Kamo: Even though we go to the same university, it's rare for us to bump into each other like this.
Kazunari: Yeah, I just finished these invitations for the group exhibition. Here, take one.
Kamo: Thank you. What a cool design, it feels really lively.
Kazunari: Right? I don't get as many chances to do many student exhibitions anymore, so if you wanna see it, please come!
Kamo: I'll definitely be there.
Kamo: Are you planning on becoming a designer after graduation, Miyoshi-san?
Kazunari: Umm~, I mean, not exactly a designer... I'm gonna be an UMC!
Kamo: An..... UMC?
Kazunari: Basically, a profession that does everything I want to do. Including traditional Japanese painting, graphic design, and acting.
Kazunari: I guess it's kinda like a freelancer? I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I'm gonna do.
Kamo: I see... That seems like something you'd do, Miyoshi-san.
Kamo: Most of the people I know who are aspiring designers plan on working for a company or design firm to gain experience before branching out on their own...
Kamo: Judging from all you've done and accomplished so far with that theatre company, I think you'd be able to make it as a freelancer.
Kamo: Though if you're going to be a designer, I'd recommend building connections with companies other than your theatre company while you can.
Kazunari: I see~.
Kamo: ....Sorry for saying something so snobby!
Kazunari: No, it's okay! It was helpful!
Kamo: Good luck with your exhibition!

Tsuzuru: I'm home.

Kazunari: Tenten is putting his job before me!
Tsuzuru: What are you even talking about.
Tenma: Tsuzuru-san, if it'll shut Kazunari up, go to the exhibition for me. Please.
Tsuzuru: Miyoshi-san's exhibition? Aren't you going with Summer Troupe?
Kazunari: I'd be happy if others came, too!
Muku: Let's go together!
Izumi: It's good to get some different input every now and then, right?
Tsuzuru: Well, I don't really see go see art much, so it could be fun.
Tsuzuru: Even though I've still got some time until then, I've been thinking about Summer Troupe's upcoming play, I may even get some ideas for it.
Muku: Yay! I'm looking forward to it.
Yuki: We still need to set a date.
Kazunari: Tenten's work comes first, so it's impossible for him to join, huh.
Kumon: Yeah, Tenma-san's work comes first, huh.

The following is the script that was prepared for the A3 artist talk. While I deviated from the script a bit during the artist talk due to shortened time constraints, this is the original 6 minute script that was prepared.
'Mother-Father, You Guide Us' was chosen because it contains several layers of convergence between seen and unseen. Primary among these is the co-creation of the painting between three of the spirits in our system. System is a term we use to describe our collective being. The painting is deeply symbolic, depicting events which occur simultaneously in the material and metaphysical worlds: a journey in which all four spirits in our system are guided by the blood of our ancestors, ancestral spirits, and ambiguously gendered gods.
'Mother-Father, You Guide Us' is a depiction of the spirit world which is layered with the physical world. The journey that occurs in unseen realms is inextricably linked to the journey that is occurring right now in the seen physical.
In the painting we are all together in a mythic form, rowing along a river of blood. The river represents the guiding ancestors and the path they lay for us. The blood is that of our deep ancestors, who we call the Mother-Father and depict as an intersex bovine. The Mother-Father relates to Nut who is the goddess of the sky and of the heavens guiding the dead. So we are guided through several lives and through this life. The bull’s head calls forth several mythological figures like Hathor, Attis, Apis, and Dionysus. The Gorgon mask on the boat represents an ancestral spirit and goddess who protects us. The firelight is our collective ancestors who guide us.  Flanking the Mother-Father are the Sea and the Volcano which represent venerated ancestors of place. The stars surround them all and beneath the river of blood is the endless river of souls living and dying and being reborn.
We chose color shift paint and a limited pallet to highlight and obscure various details.

Our work frequently engages with the underseen and unseen. It’s integral to our practice and not only because of our being multiple. Ultimately our work is about storytelling. We are telling underseen and unseen stories by sharing our own story. We are also telling the stories of the spirits we interact with.

We recently put together a fairly large body of work called Spirits We Are that showed at Anchor House of Artists in Feb. This was our first foray into allowing ourselves to be seen. 
The first piece here, Beloved Guide: A Sun Darkened Moon, is one of several five foot tall banners we painted as mythic portraits of ourselves. Still on view at Anchor House in Northampton.
Our work has become focused on telling our story from our perspective as a form of personal healing and a way to help destigmatize experiences that are considered outside the ordinary. 
Typically stories of people who hear voices, see visions, share a body, or have other “unusual” experiences are told by people who have never experienced these things. Often the person is depicted as sick, crazy, evil, or dangerous. At best, these stories spread misinformation. At their worst, they legitimise dehumanising others.
By telling our own story we are taking back our humanity and autonomy. Part of our way of saying this was to use scale, vibrant colors, and symbolism to present ourselves as mythic persons who claim our humanity and assert it with vivacity. 
Continuing with this theme of destigmatisation, we have our next piece, “The Sacrifice”. This piece is actually a digital study for a future painting. The Sacrifice is part of a larger story that was revealed to us via ancestral spirits. Here we are telling the story of our ancient queer ancestors who have been largely erased from history.
We identify as transgender and third gender, so connecting with these ancestors has been integral to our art and spiritual practices.
Depicted in The Sacrifice is our interpretation of an ancient devotional rite that dates back to the Neolithic. For thousands of years, people with male genitalia would partly or fully castrate themselves before becoming a priestex of one of several Mother goddesses. Such as Cybele, Rhea, Isis, Diana, and so on. These stories simply aren’t being told in the US. Third gender people continue to be a part of cultures in the Mediterranean. Yet few in the US are aware of this rich and continuing queer heritage. 
So, we are adding our small contribution by sharing these stories through our art.

Finally, we have two pieces that were created in relationship with the land where we live.

The last piece here is a painting of a land spirit. It was painted from a drawing done in meditation with the land we live on (image right).
Here we are attempting to show something that we did not see with physical eyes. The lines act as storytelling devices that hold encoded information about movement or matter or energy. 
What you see at first glance is only part of the story. To understand it fully, you have to read the lines. But we haven’t completed a codex yet.
The first, a living mask, was created with guidance from the rushes, starling, moth and from the spirit represented (image left). This mask is treated as an individual and is considered to have a spirit and to be able to channel the depicted spirit. 
The mask is renewed each year and so looks slightly different each cycle as old or damaged materials are replaced with fresh ones.

Overall our work is created in cooperation with the unseen with a purpose to reveal stories that are hidden by a society that demands homogeneity.

PLAY TRANSLATION — SKY GALLERY
a/n: this is my first time translating a play!! so please excuse the mistakes!! let me know and i will rectify it!! please enjoy!!
(The stage this time is Sky Gallery, a place said to bring good luck to college students and painters.)
(When a solo exhibition happens, newcomers wanting to be painters, believing in the rumour, believe good luck will come in and their work will surely sell.)
Aoumi: Sakurada, thank you for your hard work. This solo exhibition was also a great success.
It’s amazing that most of the works will have buyers in the second solo exhibition. Fans are following.
Sakurada: Oh, I…
Aoumi: Sakurada?
Sakurada: It won’t sell after all…
Aoumi: Huh?
Sakurada: Each work is like a precious child! I’m terrified to sell it!
I can hear them all upset with me! I’m sorry! It was my bad! I won’t sell you!
Even if we live in water and sprout, we will always be together! (AN: i am,, so confused by this line)

Aoumi: Sakurada, calm down!
Sakurada: Are you really so terrible you’d sell your child!?

Aoumi: Hmm… well, I guess that’s right.
Shirato: Mr. Aoumi, don’t get wrapped up in all that!
Aoumi: Ah, I’m sorry.
Sakurada: Sorry Mr. Aoumi. I had so many things for this solo exhibition… after all, I…
Aoumi: I understand the overflowing love for your work. I think that’s what makes your work so appealing.
But the day comes when children have to leave the nest.
All the works up here are packed with Sakurada’s love and have the power to fly across the world.
Don’t you want to see the children nesting up to find their place and empowering different people?
Sakurada: Ah, you’re right… this is a fledgling! I’m so stupid!

(Kumon has turned the quirky new painter Sakurada into a nice character.)
(Kazu’s Aoumi looks more mature than usual and Tenma’s slightly chilled Shirato are both friendly and nice.)
Shinonome: Hey.
Aoumi: Oh, Shinonome, welcome. I’ve been hearing a lot about your reputation these days.
Shinonome: Eh, thanks!
Aoumi: Glad to help you. Shirato, could you bring me some tea?

Shinonome: Shirato?

Aoumi: Do you know each other?
Shinonome: We’re high school friends — same art club!
Shirato: I didn’t realise Shinonome was developing individually here.
Shinonome: I didn’t even know Shirato worked here! Didn’t you get a job right after high school?
Shirato: A lot of things happened.
Shinonome: Yeah, but I’m happy I get to work with Shirato again!
Shirato: Actually, we’re separate. I’m an apprentice.
Aoumi: Mr. Shirato, please join us. I thought it was time to learn about the project launch.
Shirato: It’s original…
Shinonome: Yay! Nice to meet you!
Tsuzuru: The up and coming painter Shinonome is closer to Ikaruga…
It fits perfectly. It feels like the stage is brighter.
(After the meeting with Shinonome, a new college student brings his work to the gallery. )
Aoumi: Nice to meet you. I’m Aoumi, owner of the Sky Gallery.
Shirato: It’s Shirato.
Moegi: Haha, nice to meet you. I’m Moegi.
Aoumi: Okay, can you show me your portfolio now?
Moegi: Um, yes, this is— awawawa!
Shirato: Is everything okay?
Moegi: Oh um, thank you…
Aoumi: Let’s see it.
Moegi: Oh, how about that…?
Aoumi: I think it’s really good! The details here are also nice.
These works are so close to everyday life. The customers will love them too.
Moegi: That’s right! I also love this painting! This one has a very good colour balance.

Moegi: Then… this picture has a cloud motif.
The inside and outside of human beings are expressed by the appearance seen when entering the clouds, but the gap is good.

Yamabuki: That’s right! I think it’s really good too!
The painting deals with multifaceted motifs within the theme, and it’s very deep!
The more I look at it, the more I see it, and the more I can approach the theme from various directions!
Aoumi: Yeah. Let’s hold a solo exhibition together.
Yamabuki: Ah, um…
Aoumi: What happened?
Yamabuki: That… I’ll stop! Excuse me!
Aoumi: Wait…
Shirato: Well, isn’t this popular?

Shirato: In that case, you don’t have to force them to develop.
Aoumi: But they both came to the Sky Gallery themselves, right?

Aoumi: Did you get in touch with Shinonome?
Shirato: No, nothing.
Aoumi: Strange… I’ve had the meeting running for 30 minutes but I can’t seem to connect with him at all.
Shirato: Must be late…
Aoumi: I’m worried I can’t get in touch with him.
And I have to design the guide and print it. He won’t be on time, right?
I need the main picture, but I haven’t heard from him.
Shirato: By the way… When I was in high school, I suddenly went absent and I couldn’t go home. I was missing for a few days. (There’s something about a police officer here I can’t quite translate.)
