World Wizard Entertainment Final: FUCKING TROUBLE
(And is Vince McSam in the room with us now?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well folks, this is it. The final.
We've lost some good wizards along the way. Also some evil ones. Probably some neutral ones as well, I dunno, this wasn't the alignment quiz. We've campaigned, cat-fought, and cried crocodile tears for who was the most wizard, who was the strongest wizard, and sometimes, who just made the funniest argument.
And in this last round, we've had to say goodbye—for now, but not forever—to our champion, our guiding star, our last hope....
A moment of silence... for Veth's Big Naturals.
But do you know what? It's what she and her huge, wizardly knockers (and, maybe, somehow, also Cerrit's roguely big naturals?) would've wanted. Her boy, Caleb Widogast, in the final round, up against the Calamity's dearest heart of hearts, Laerryn Coramar-Seelie.
Pfffft, alright, enough of that heartfelt fuckery.
There's no crying in wizardry, as they say! If you want to see previous polls, rankings, and methodology, please check the tag here. Otherwise, let's get to the trash talk!
(But for real, again, keep it weird and funny, not just... mean. Contrary to popular belief, people can in fact tell the difference. This is for fun.)
Our final round match-up, wizard to wizard:
So come, one and all, and vote for the last wizard remaining! Laerryn, give it your best shot. And Caleb, AVENGE THOSE TOTS!

Essek completely devastated by his loss:
I studied dunamancy for years, sacrificed everything for learning and it only got me to the semi-finals? What was it all for if-
Veth: Yeah that's great hotboi, anyways I already got Laerryn and Caleb to agree to give me the trophy so I don't really care who wins
Essek: YOU WHAT

I hope @quiddie is sharing all the love for Veth's big naturals with her ex husband Sam Riegel because I do need him to make an ad spot about this craziness

nothing funnier than barty taking notorious bad bitch professor aurora sinistra to the yule ball actually. while still disguised in moody’s old man body. barty crouch jr is in a life-or-death imposter situation with monumental stakes doing the most impressively sustained method acting anyone has ever seen. but if there is one trait he cannot ever manage to suppress it is his rizz

As the World Wizard Entertainment tournament finalists attempt to fireball their way to victory, I think it is not too early to announce the winner of a special award. The title of Archmage of Congeniality is given to the wizard who has most made this competition enjoyable.
Given that these wizards are fictional characters who are not literally participating in a tournament and interacting with one another, this title actually recognizes a contingent of fans who have dedicated themselves to enthusiastic fannish participation, passionate fandom fun, and positive engagement in the course of campaigning for their chosen wizard.
With maverick strategy that highlighted her prodigious bust size, called on the legacy of Exandria's greatest mage slayer, leveraged the relationship with her opponent and arcane mentor, and created many delightful new fanworks, the supporters of this wizard exemplified the spirit of campaigning for one's fave to win meaningless polls in a way that was constructive and uplifting and that brightened our dashboards with whimsy and passion.
In recognition of the spell of joy and delight that this wizard's supporters cast on this small corner of the fanspace during this silly series of polls, I bestow on Veth Brenatto the title of Archmage of Congeniality of the World Wizard Entertainment tournament.
Congratulations to Archmage Brenatto and especially (with all the loving sincerity in the world) to her fans and supporters who made this competition surreal, unexpected, and more enjoyable than it had any right to be.
One level in wizard goes a very, very long way. Live, Love, Veth.

To break character, though I have done quite a bit already in this post, and at the risk of repeating a lot of a post I made earlier today: I am full of genuine love for all of you who contributed to #VethSweep posting and made this tournament incredibly entertaining. I am also so excited for the Veth fans amidst this outpouring of support and shenanigans in her name—I hope some of this energy sticks around and adds to your ranks. All that I've said in this grandiose speech is all so very sincere, and my heart is full of joy and delight this evening.
Veth is not the grand final winner of the tournament, but she is absolutely and thoroughly the winner of our hearts.

No matter who wins the World Wizard Entertainment finals, we've already proven that whether you're the saddest wet blanket of a man, or the baddest bitch in the Age of Arcanum, the true measure of a wizard is not the quality of your paper and ink, or the depth of your hubris.
Research grants may come and go, but the constant over a millennium, the defining quality of the best wizards, is the bisexual maelstrom in your heart.

Veth v. Laerryn: the hypothetical fight mechanics breakdown no one asked for
The weasels have the wheel and they want to figure out how such a fight would go mechanically (based off of the information we have on critrolestats).
Cause if they don’t have the right spells, a high level rogue can fuck a wizard’s shit up.
The biggest advantage to a rogue is their bonus action hide.  You Can’t Hit What You Can’t See still (mostly) applies for casters.  Laerryn’s Passive Perception of 17 isn’t bad, but it doesn’t compare with Veth’s 25 minimum roll with Reliable Talent.  And even if she wastes her action to look for Veth... okay: with a +7 to Perception, against Veth’s +15 (at an equivalent level 14 at least)... that’s a 1.5% chance Laerryn has of actually spotting Veth.  Ooph. So.  Laerryn pretty much can’t see Veth.  That takes a considerable number of her listed spells out of the running.
Basically Laerryn’s gonna need to use the LORGE AN CHONKY AoE spells that don’t require line of sight.  There’s only two listed on Laerryn’s CRS character sheet, but iirc that only reflects what’s been used in game, so let’s go over some other possibilities! (* for those she may not have)
Fireball: ol’ reliable right here is a great one with excellent damage output.  The only problem is that it’s a Dex save, and even if she failed (she has a +10), with Evasion the most Veth would end up taking is half damage.
Reverse Gravity: depending on the environment/if there’s a ceiling, this could royally screw Veth out of her ability to hide.  She’d need to be really quick in casting Invisibility before she’s dragged up and out of her hiding place so Laerryn couldn’t just wreck her once she’s out in the open.  And with Feather Fall as a reaction, there’s no fall damage when the spell ends.
Slow*: would limit Veth to either an Action or Bonus Action — meaning no more hiding after she attacks!  If Laerryn cast this in order to end concentration on Reverse Gravity, this would remove Veth’s reaction, meaning no Feather Fall and Veth would take full damage.  But.. Veth is proficient in Wisom saves thanks to her Resilient feat.
Storm Sphere*: continuous damage on a failed Strength save?  Hell yes!  The damage is fairly minimal, but the description says that the lightning bolt strikes out towards a creature of your choice within 60 ft of the storm... it does not say that you have to see them.
Horrid Wilting/Cloudkill/Sunburst*: these are all large-AoE damage spells, each requiring a Con save (which Veth only has a +1 in).  Sunburst, which blinds enemies on a failed save, is particularly useful.
Basically, Laerryn’s win is going to rely on what other spells she has in her arsenal, as without those it’s insanely unlikely she’ll be able to spot Veth in time to prevent a sneak attack or use one of her targeted attack spells.  With just the spells we currently know?  ...It doesn’t look great.
Veth’s win is going to rely on making her saving throws while staying hidden, and whittling down Laerryn’s 142 hit points (175 with Arcane Ward).  But with 8d6+5 damage every round that she’s hidden? I think she could actually do it.  She’s crazy enough to pull it off, she has some solid saving throws, and she has a ridiculous stealth check.  Unless Laerryn preps the exact right spells, Veth could take this whole thing.

Regulus laughs at James, who is a mess and has a lot of reasons to be laughed at.
James’ shocked pride at being able to fit his fist in his mouth after Remus told him to shut up was defiantly a reason to laugh at him.
And James took out his fist and smiled at the sound. The content and ease that Regulus was sharing with him. He felt like he was boneless, calm, melting under the sunny heat of that happy little sound.
“I love you Regulus.”
Regulus blushed and smiled back fondly at the gold drenched James in front of him.
“I know.”
“The Empire Strikes Back has been out a week! A week! I miss the days when you sneered at muggle technology! Why did Remus even share the wonders of the cinema with you!”

Like, truly. Yes, Caleb actually should, rightfully, win the poll against Veth, but I genuinely do think that there's something insane and wonderful about just... how HARD people are campaigning for Veth and how much work is being put into generating the silliest possible campaign speeches for her and, most of all, how much it's ACTUALLY WORKING. She is less than 450 votes behind Caleb and has almost 45% of the vote as of writing. It's actually way more even than it logically should be.
Truly, like, this sort of shenanigans is what makes this sort of thing fun. Not to get sentimental on you all, but it really is like... core fandom-type experience. This is legitimately fun.
Vote for Veth—for Big Naturals, for Caleb's pride as a teacher, for rogue solidarity with Cerrit and the mage-slaying threat he posed to Laerryn, for "Counterspell THIS, you filthy casual [cocks crossbow]", for the insanity of a Laerryn vs. Veth final, for the underdog, for the upset, for chaos, for the bit.
But, really, no matter the result in the end, these past couple days in this small corner of the fandom has been genuinely a great example of how fun fandom can be.
