Rex Ingram as Jean Christophe in Haiti, by William DuBois, as a tempestuous liberated slave who led the people of Haiti in revolt and defied Napoleon Bonaparte.
The play opened at the Lafayette Theater in Harlem, March 2, 1938 and transferred to Daly's Theater on West 63rd St. on July 11. It ran until Sept. 24 (168 performances). It has been described as a "melodramatic recounting of the 1802 uprising, led by Toussaint L’Ouverture, that Orson Welles used as a basis for his now-famous Voodoo Macbeth, but Haiti depicts the actual events that transpired to give the Haitians back their country and rule."
It was a production by the Federal Theater Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The Times's critic Brooks Atkinson called Ingram's performance "gusty" and noted, "Mr. Ingram has been a good actor for a long time. It is not very often, however, that he finds a heroic part like that of Christophe, the leader of a cause. Massive inside a gaudy uniform, active as a pole-vaulter, and gleaming with sincerity, Mr. Ingram gives a rattling good performance." He also noted, "What with one thing and another, there is enough history in Haiti to make it socially respectable."

Punch Out Men's Bracket OCs! (World Circuit)
Tumblr media
THE BOYS ARE BACK! And they've had quite the makeover! Name: Treble Trouble/Joshua Matthews Age: 28 Height: 6' Weight: 150lbs Nationality: Australian Position: #3 World Circuit Record: 18-10 (11 KO) Stance: Southpaw (Left-Handed) "Hands down the noisiest boxer in the history of the WVBA, there's never a moment of silence when Treble's in the room. A loud-mouthed death metal/rock performer with an equally noisy fanbase who devote their entire lives to him, he's knows how to get an audience riled up and excited. Unfortunately, he can be quite a sour loser after some matches and that anger is often taken out on whichever poor soul is against him next match..."
Name: Rusty Hook Age: 38 Height: 6'4 Weight: 174lbs Nationality: Scottish-Caribbean Position: #2 World Circuit Record: 20-14 (14 KO) Stance: Orthodox (Right-Handed) "This grizzled old pirate captain is honestly slightly terrifying when he's in the ring but he's usually a jolly drunkard who enjoys singing sea shanties and generally acting like an idiot. Rusty isn't too popular with the WVBA fans due to the shocking amount of cheating he pulls during his fights. Kicking, elbow bashes, ankle grabs and spitting are just a few of the boorish tactics he pulls to ensure he gets the win. The WVBA WOULD intervein buuut... they really can't be bothered." Name: Kim Seo-Joon Age: 26 Height: 5'11 Weight: 141lbs Nationality: Korean Position: #1 World Circuit Record: 10-12 (5 KO) Stance: Orthodox (Right-Handed) "Seo-Joon's first impression on many people is that he's an arrogant, snarky asshole and... he slightly is. His position in the World Circuit is solely based on his fame as a k-pop idol outside of the WVBA as his actual boxing record would normally have him wallowing in the Minor Circuit. However, once you get past the smug grin and 'I am the best' attitude, he's actually quite a loyal friend who had it rough when he was younger." Name: William Dubois Age: 32 Height: 6'1 Weight: 148lbs Nationality: British-French Position: World Circuit Champion Record: 20-12 (14 KO) Stance: Orthodox (Right-Handed) "This incredibly talented butler seemingly has a magic touch with anything he does! William's skills as both a servant to the wealthy and as a boxer are very impressive, almost too good for a human being! No matter how much praise and attention this attracts, however, he always seems to remain humble and modest claiming that 'he is nothing more than a butler to those who require his service'. Juuust make sure you don't ruin his bowtie during a fight... It leaves him rather miffed, to put it lightly."

Forty years ago (4 March 1984) on this day in show biz history the made for TV adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire premiered on ABC. This interpretation – starring Ann-Margret as Blanche DuBois, Treat Williams as Stanley Kowalski, Beverly D'Angelo as Stella and Randy Quaid as Mitch – was green-lit during Williams’ lifetime, but he didn’t live to see it. “Ann-Margret looks too healthy to portray Blanche DuBois, the physically and mentally fragile Southern belle protagonist of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, but we forget this discrepancy five minutes into her marvelous performance,” AllMovie concludes. “The 1984 Streetcar Named Desire is less a remake of the 1951 version than a companion piece - a praiseworthy alternate version of the same sturdy material.” John H O’Connor of The New York Times, meanwhile, raved “Ann-Margret transforms [Blanche’s] disintegration into a journey of incredible pain and heartbreaking beauty. Her performance keeps building in intensity until, by the final scenes, she reaches a pitch of vulnerability that is almost unbearably riveting.” You can watch it for yourself on YouTube.

I don't have a specific ask but I just wanna hear more about the Dubois Brothers. Pretty please I love your hs au
of course garf!
so, there are four dubois brothers. william, javier, sebastian, and frankie. the older three are MUCH older than francois. they’re all in their mid-late 20s while francois is in his mid teens.
will, the oldest, was also the one who fought the most with lance. daniela (their mom) was the glue that was holding their relationship together, so when she died everything fell apart. once he turned 18, he completely left the family behind and joined the marines. he gave frankie a blue hoodie before he left, that he eventually grew into and now wears all the time.
he moved up north after his time in the marines and met a guy that he started dating, named collin. they have a 3 year old daughter
javier, the second oldest, was forced into being a mediator after daniela died. he would have to step in when will and lance fought to get them to be quiet and stop scaring frankie. when he eventually left, he stayed in contact a bit, but for the most part moved on with himself.
sebastian, the third oldest/second youngest, tried to stay out of all the infighting as much as he could. he was also the brother that helped spark frankies interest in music. he probably stayed in contact the most with his family.
frankie, when he learned to drive, went around and found his brothers and reunited them. he even got will and lance to reconcile.
i have too many thoughts about them. also they all play baseball together :)
