Ahhhhhh writing for my wolfie boy again ☺. I apologize if this is a little bad as I was trying to find a good way to write this and look up the artist as I haven't heard these songs before.

Pairing: Niklaus Mikaelson x F!Singer!Reader, Past!Damon Salvatore x F!Reader

Music was Y/N's pride and joy, having done cover songs putting them up on a YouTube channel and she was every popular gaining a huge audience. She started to make her first album right around when she found out that Damon had been seeing Elena behind her back which hurt her deeply and since then she hadn't talked to her so call best friend. Y/N's fans had been angry at Damon saying how dare he hurt such a cinnamon bun and saying how Elena was a terrible best friend.

"Love, I have something to ask of you."

"What is it Nik?" Y/N asked looking up from lyrics she was working on for her album. Klaus sat next to her.

"I am throwing a party and was hoping you could sing for my guests?" Klaus asked her as she stopped looking at him. Y/N knew that most likely Damon would be there along with the rest of her friend group.

"I'll love to Nik."

Y/N was a bit nervous and had asked Kol to record her for her channel as the songs she picked was sneak peaks of what she was working on. Y/N was announced to go on stage and heard the clapping seeing every that was going to prom had came to the party.

"How is everyone tonight?" Y/N greeted getting cheers as Damon stared at her and Klaus found Y/N just gorgeous as she wore the dress he got her.

"I here to sing for you all. Three sneak peeks at some songs I wrote." Y/N said getting loud cheers making her smile.

"The first is called 'Déjà Vu' so enjoy." Y/N said beginning to play people began to move to the music.

"Car rides to Malibu, strawberry ice cream. One spoon for two and trading jackets. Laughing 'bout how small it looks on you." Y/N sang as she played her guitar.

"Watching reruns of Glee, being annoying singing in harmony. I bet she's bragging to all her friends, saying you're so unique, him. So when you gonna tell her? That we did that too? She thinks it's special. But it's all reused that was our place, I found it first. I made the jokes you tell her when she's with you. Do you get déjà vu? Ah, hmm." Y/N sang and got cheers while Elena looked to Damon wondering if it was true.

"Alright everyone I'm sure alot of can relate to the next one here's 'Brutal'." Y/N said with a grin feeling more comfortable on stage.

"I want it to be,like, messy. I'm so insecure, I think that I'll die before I drink. And I'm so caught up in the news of who likes me and who hates me." Y/N sang as Klaus frown hating the idea that Y/N felt that way.

"And I'm so tired that I might quit my job, start a new life and they'd all be so disappointed. 'Cause who am I, if not exploited? And I'm so sick of 17. If someone tells me one more time "Enjoy your youth." I'm gonna cry."

"And I wish I'd done this before. And I wish people liked me more. All I did was try my best, this the kind of thanks I get? Unrelentlessly upset. They say these are the golden years but I wish I could disappear. Ego crush is so severe.... God, it's brutal out here." Y/N sang as she looked out at the dancing crowd then saw how Klaus watched her. The crowd cheered as the song ended and Y/N was now in her element as Damon frowned wishing he knew this about his ex.

"Here is for those girls who felt like me. This next one is called 'Jealousy Jealousy.'"

"I kinda wanna throw my phone across the room. 'Cause all I see are girls too good to be true. With paper-white teeth and prefect bodies....Wish I didn't care. I know that beauty is not my lack."

"But it feels like that weight is on my back. And I can't let it go. Co-comparison is killin' me slowly. I think, I think too much 'bout kids who don't know me. I'm so sick of myself. I'd rather be, rather be anyone anyone else. But jealousy, jealousy. Started followin' me. Started followin' me." Y/N finished as everyone cheered loudly and clapping as she waved leaving the stage as the band took over.

"Y/N." Damon said as the singer turned seeing her ex the first time in months as she had buried herself in her music.

"Salvatore." Y/N said not caring about the hurt that flashed in his eyes as in her mind Damon had no right to be hurt.

"We should talk."

"Sorry but I'm busy."

"With what?" Damon questioned stepping forward as in a blur Klaus was next to Y/N with an arm around her waist.

"Joining me for a drink." Klaus said leaving Damon no more to talk as he lead the young woman away.

"You didn't have to do that."

"But I did love." Klaus tells her as she found herself in his studio and she stepped away looking at his paintings. Y/N stopped at one of her making her blink as he step next to her.

"You shouldn't feel l like you aren't good enough Y/N. "

"And why would you say that?" Y/N asked smiling looking at him as Klaus looked at her cupping her cheek. Y/N had a suspicion that Klaus had a thing for her since he would bend over backwards for her.

"Because I'm in love with you. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met." Klaus tells her making Y/N's heart skip a beat as he leaned closer.

"I am in love with you too. As I can't believe I fell for my best friend." Y/N said softly cupping his face as Klaus crashed his lips against hers. Y/N kissed back pressing closer to Klaus making him growl while in a blur she found her self in Klaus's bed. Y/N giggled leaning back against Klaus's bare chest as she showed him how to play the guitar. Y/N was glad she said yes to singing for Klaus's party as she would have never gotten her happily ever after with someone who really loved her.

5. Tell me something you've been dying to say about one of your ocs/stories!

Thanks for asking! This got a little long, so I ended up putting it under the cut. But these were super fun questions to answer.

1. Because I always did, lol. But no, Alex hates Elena originally because she's super jealous of Elena. She feels like Elena has the perfect life with the perfect family and the perfect friends. As the story goes on she realizes Elena's life is no where near perfect, but she starts to resent Elena for being able to get away with anything and how far everyone in town bends over backwards to cater to Elena.

2. Alex has a complicated relationship with the brothers. She and Stefan get along pretty well when he first gets to town, and she's happy to have both a friend and a family member to rely on. She and Damon never really get along, they have a pretty antagonistic relationship with each other, and they fight a lot; the only reason she particularly cares about what happens to Damon is because she knows Stefan cares about him. But both brothers are obsessed in love with Elena and she and Alex do not like each other, so there's a lot of tension and distrust there.

3. One song I really associate with Alex and Elijah is Delicate by Taylor Swift. Specifically the line "My reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me". Alex is pretty unpopular in town because of her feeling towards Elena along with her pretty abrasive attitude, but Elijah immediately believes she's both a good and kind person and takes the time to get to know that person rather than letting her keep him at arms length like everyone else has.

4. There are a lot of fandoms I'm in that I'd love to make an OC for (or have an un-introduced OC for), but I think a big one right now would probably be Criminal Minds. It was my favorite show in high school and I'm currently doing a rewatch of it, so I have so many ideas.

5. Well, I've been dying to talk about my Supernatural OC Joey recently, so I'll share a tidbit about her. She is the vessel of an angel. This starts when she is only 12 years old, but unlike most of the angels (Cas, Gabriel, etc.) Zophiel doesn't take Joey's body, she is still in control until Zophiel is needed for something. This originally is a ploy on Zophiel's part to hide from Heaven by taking up residence in but not controlling a vessel, but later morphs into an actual agreement between the two.

Give Me Strength Chapter 16;

Alex woke up the next day later than she usually would, she slowly sits up on the bed and feels the cold air hit her exposed chest, her head pounded with a headache and there was a stickiness between her legs, her memory quickly reminded her what had happened the previous night.

"Oh... that's right." Alex mumbles. "Santino couldn't help himself, he just had to have both of us." Alex picks up her phone to look at the time before jumping up from her bed and running towards the bathroom, she needed a shower even if it were just a quick one to clean her pussy from the fun they had.

She climbs out of the shower and wraps a towel around her body before picking up her toothbrush, she brushes her teeth and her hair before leaving the bathroom and going towards the closet, she quickly picks a black set of underwear and bra along with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, she leaves the bedroom and practically running down the stairs, she was late for school and she didn't have the time to be a good host and make breakfast for Jenna and Santino, who was probably still in the guest bedroom asleep, she picks up the bag she had left by the stairs the previous day, still containing the drugs she had bought, she picks up her car keys and left the house.

Alex runs into school and towards her locker, nobody stood in the hallway confirming just how late she was, she opens her locker and grabs her history book and slams her locker shut before dashing down the hall towards history glass, she pushes the door open gaining everyone's attention.

"You're late," Alaric states, Alex shrugs before walking towards the back of the class. "Perhaps you could share with us why you are later."

"I've got a splitting headache, so no, I don't think I'll share," Alex says as she sits down at her desk next to Jayden. "I think I need a smoke." Alex held her hand towards Jayden, right now she didn't care if they were on school grounds or not, Jayden took out a cigarette packet from his bag and took one out, he hands it to Alex before fishing for his lighter in his jeans pockets.

"There you go, are we really going to do it?" Jayden asks. "Are we really going to live out the dream?" Alaric slowly walks towards the back of the classroom as the students in the room had their eyes on Alex and Jayden.

"Yes," Alex says, she places the bud between her lips and Jayden lights it.

"Smoking on school grounds is not allowed," Dana states staring at Alex, Alex looks directly at Dana as she removes the cigarette from her lips, blowing the smoke out.

"Here's the thing, Dana, I don't give a fuck right now," Alex says, Dana turns around to face the front of the room as Jayden lights his own cigarette, Alaric now stood between Jayden and Alex's table.

"What exactly do the two of you think you are doing?" Alaric asks bending over while placing his hands on their desks, Alex blows a puff of smoke into his face but it doesn't seem to bother him.

"Smoking." Alex states. "Living out the dream of smoking in class." Alex wanted to blurt out about her night with his girlfriend but decided to keep it for herself, he had helped her with the wound on her arm. "But please, continue teaching, I need to learn this shit." Alaric only stares at Alex, it appeared as if he was thinking for a moment before he stood up straight.

"Very well," Alaric says turning around. "But I'll only allow it once, do not make a habit of it." That surprised everyone, Alaric would never say something like that but nobody dared to question him, Alex smirks and glances at Jayden. "Be sure to pay attention."

"Don't worry Mr.S, I want to get out of this forsaken place and the only way to do that is to finish school." Alex mumbles.

"That was amazing, so much better than I ever imagined." Jayden beams as they exit History class. "This is not going to be the last time."

"You heard Mr Saltzman," Alex says. "One time only." Jayden rolls his eyes, knowing him he would probably do it again.

"Whatever," Jayden says, they walk down the hall towards her locker. "Are we going to go to this stupid dance?" He asks spotting a poster for the dance.

"Okay, no, dances aren't for us." Alex states. "Besides, We don't have anything that will fit with the 60s decades dance." They arrive at her locker and she opens it, she places her history book back inside before pushing her bag into it, she takes out her math book. "Please help me remember that this is in here, it still has the pills in it, I didn't have time to take it out yesterday."

"Okay, but I can't promise you anything," Jayden says, Alex closes the locker.

"I'll thank you when you remind me," Alex says. "Besides, I have company at my house, It would be rude of me to leave them alone all night."

"Wait, you have company over? Who is it?" Jayden asks.

"Just someone..." Alex says, it was better for if Jayden didn't know that it was Jenna.

"Is it a man? Wait, is it that other man... what was his name...?" Jayden trails off as he thinks.

"Elijah?" Alex questions.

"Yes!" Jayden says. "Is it him?" Alex nods her head.

"Yeah, he's staying over at my home, the hotel became too crowded and he couldn't concentrate." Alex easily lies, Jayden nods his head.

"Okay, Well, I'll see you at lunch then," Jayden says, Alex nods her head and walks past him towards her next class while Jayden went to his locker.

"Jenna," Alex says while walking down the stairs, she was searching for her bag when she remembered it was still at the school sitting in her locker, Jenna steps out from the living room. "I'm going to go get my bag, I forgot it in my locker." Alex picks up her car keys.

"If you want to go to the decades dance, you don't need to lie about it," Jenna says, Alex chuckles at the thought of her at the dance.

"Okay, firstly, I hate dances and secondly my bag has some important things inside of it," Alex says while opening her front door. "I'll be back as soon as possible."

"All right, drive safely," Jenna says, Alex smiles at her and walks out of her house, she closes the door behind her and takes out her phone, she quickly finds Jayden's number in her contacts and calls him as she walks towards her car.

"Jayden here." Jayden answers.

"You absolute piece of shit, you didn't remind me about the bag," Alex says.

"Oh, right, yes, Alex, remember to grab your bag before you leave," Jayden says, sarcasm clear in his voice.

"Dick," Alex says, she climbs into her car.

"Okay, sorry, sorry, are you going to go get it?" Jayden asks.

"Of course I am, and tomorrow you'll be needing stitches," Alex says and ends the phone call.

Alex climbs out of her car slamming the door shut and locking her car, she walks towards the school entrance hearing the music from the dance, she sees Elena and Bonnie exiting the school looking some-what nervous.

"Would you look who it." Alex couldn't help herself. "Elena and Bonnie, the two besties, did the dance get too boring?" Bonnie and Elena stop in their tracks.

"If it's so boring then why are you here, druggy?" Bonnie asks, Alex rolls her eyes at her comment.

"I'm just here to get something you little witch," Alex says, she could see Bonnie's eyes widen for a second. "Did I touch a nerve? Or are you really a witch?"

"Leave her alone." Elena quickly defends her friend.

"Why? Am I on to something? Do you two actually believe in the supernatural?" Alex asks, messing with them. "Wow, you two need to lighten up, I have some weed, it helps a lot with stress." Alex walks past them chuckling at their expression, she stops at the front door and looks over her shoulder as they start to walk away. "I wouldn't blame you if you did believe in the supernatural, this town is crawling with them."

"You're such a bitch, Alex," Bonnie says. "Come on, Elena."

"I'd rather be a bloody bitch than a witch," Alex says, she pulls the school doors open and walks inside and down the hallway towards her locker, she arrives at her locker and opens letting out a sigh of relief when she finds her bag still inside, she pulls the bag out of the locker and slings it over her shoulder, closing the locker in the process. "Thank goodness."

Alex walks down the hall and turns the corner only to see Alaric's back towards her while Bonnie and Elena stood a few feet away from him, Alaric goes towards Bonnie but with a flick of her hand Alaric flew through the air backwards, Alaric chuckles standing up from the floor and went towards Bonnie again.

"Is that all you have?" Alaric asks, Bonnie lifts her hands and with an invisible force Alaric was pushed backwards towards Alex's direction and the glass display behind her, his body slams into her as they both collide with the glass display case, Alex was instantly knocked out as the fight continued.

Okay, I’ve read the last chapter of TLTBILB like 5x and I’m still dying over the fact that not only is Tyler the most perfect boyfriend in the world. BUT, that he also wrote letters to Hayley about Bonnie. The fact that Bonnie is the only person who doesn’t realize how much Tyler loves her, is killing me softly. & how freaking cute & soft Jeremey is?? Like I hate him in canon, but he’s so cute in this fic. Alright imma go now, I just wanted you to know I’m obsessed with your fics! Your amazing❤️

Hey anon!

Gotta admit that TATBILB is just the most fun for me to write right now of all my fics. I have always had a major soft spot for Tonnie and honestly they were one of my earliest TVD ships when I first started watching the show before Klaus showed up and I became Klonnie obsessed. They just had so much potential to be great and I was salty that after all that BS that JP talked about not wanting to do a Oz/Willow redux (even though she had no issues with stealing literally everything else from BtVS) she put Tyler with a witch in later seasons anyway, one that just so happened to be another one of JP’s blonde self inserts.

Anyway back to the fic, I just love combining the story lines into the TVD-verse and I think it fits the characters so well. I love writing Oblivious!Bonnie and the whole idea of the fake dating trope and the seemingly unrequited love trope. Literally Tyler is the epitome of this gif…

And Bonnie just does not get it! Lol The journey with these two is definitely going to be a fun one and we are going to see Stefan and Vicki add some friction in the upcoming chapters.

Jeremy….oh sweet Jeremy. I honestly feel like I would have loved him on the show if they wrote him as Elena’s little brother that’s just trying to find his place which they kind of did but then they put him in these random pairings and try to force his relevancy to the plot in all the wrong ways and wrote him so annoying so I was over him fairly quickly.I would have liked Beremy interacting better as just friends because their chemistry was flat for me on the show and their relationship was poorly written and executed and I was hoping for they would go the bisexual route with Jere just for diversity and to be real he even had more chemistry with Tyler than he did with Bonnie. I liked Jyler dynamic and wanted it to turn into something when it first became a thing on the show which is why I have them paired together in Shades of Pink. But the Jyler chem is a convo for another post.

Honestly, Bonnie had more chemistry with Tyler onscreen with just shared looks and the whole thing was just a waste because they had a fairly active fanbase for a while even with them not interacting onscreen hardly ever, which should tell you something. The witch/wolf lore also had so many possibilities, especially if Tyler was written as a canon character of color under the right pen as the mythology there is plentiful and especially if Bonnie’ heritage and background was given the story arc it deserved and not mentioned in passing and used a plot device. That’s why I love writing the pairing!

Writing them all human is different though. I like the idea of them being regular teenagers with ordinary problems and with a romcom plot. In spite of them being in high school the first few seasons, we didn’t get to see it a lot on the show, especially with Tyler and Bonnie because they were sidelined, and Bonnie was a plot device. A lot of their normal teenage moments were filtered through their pairings at the time, Beremy and Forwood. While TATBILB is heavy on romance and they do develop a lot as a couple, they are rebuilding a friendship as well, exploring a shared history that I feel like should have been explored with all the original base characters of the show because it would have made all of their moments of danger and heartbreak and their lives being disrupted by the supernatural that much more poignant.

Bonnie and Tyler are also developing as individuals, particularly Bonnie in this fic. A lot of her wanting to stay in her comfort zone in the fic is fear based, which she doesn’t fully understand. I think its less about being in Elena’s shadow, and more about finally being around people that the are encouraging her to break out of that comfort zone and try new things, hang out with different people, and revealing more of herself to others and she gets that not just from Tyler, but from Jeremy, from Luka, from Caroline, and others as the story goes along. Because Elena may have been her friend but Elena was also her enabler and I feel like in terms of their friendship Bonnie staying in her comfort zone was encouraged by Elena because having her friend by her side all the time was something that was a part of Elena’s comfort zone. Bonnie isn’t just leaving her comfort zone though, its more like she’s expanding it and inviting other people into it and learning more about what she’s capable of and how people really see her. A reviewer put it well when they said that she’s been casting herself as the side character all along and she’s always been the lead and that’s exactly the point and what she’s realizing.

I think the girl’s being separated and Elena being off on her own where she’s not someone everyone knows and she’s not the center of attention and she doesn’t have people willing to bend over backwards to do what she wants and with the people she was closest to, like Jeremy and Stefan, getting closer to Bonnie in her absence and Bonnie experiencing so much that Elena won’t know about fully until she sees her again, no matter how many phone calls they make, it’ll be interesting when they finally reunite, which won’t be for a while yet.

As far as Tyler’s development, I’d like to think that his relationship with Bonnie will allow more people to see who he really is at heart, which is a good person who is very intense and angry at times but goes hard for the people who he loves.The show started to do that with Forwood which is why I liked them at first but they put him in too much of a box and didn’t allow him to interact with enough others and then his development lost its impact and he was sacrificed on the altar of KC and things just went pear shaped from there.

As far as the fic goes, I think that Tyler is still Tyler but he just allows himself to show certain sides of himself to people he cares about, people he trusts. He showed that side to Bonnie before and he’s able to do that again after so long. He can be a jerk and an asshole but that’s not all he is. There are people who know this, Matt, Hayley, Caroline and his family but it isn’t widely known and I feel like when people witness the connection with him and Bonnie it’s something that is very evident and something that made Bonnie fall for him in the first place when they were younger. You’ll also get to see where a lot of his anger comes from in the upcoming chapters and Hayley does reveal more to Bonnie about what Tyler’s letter’s said in later chapters as well. I want to have Tyler be kind of the inverse of the jock stereotype, because he has this image he puts on and this persona he wears that kind of melts off when he’s around Bonnie. Vicki will definitely take notice of this as well and there is going to be a lot of juxtaposition between those relationships and the way he is with each of them and the way that they are with him. Even though this is “fake” he isn’t used to someone as genuine as Bonnie and it makes sense for him to be all in. But Tyler has his own insecurities and Stefan’s presence doesn’t help them at all so we’ll see how it goes. It doesn’t help that while Tyler is familiar with Bonnie in the way she was before, she’s a little harder for him to read now because they haven’t interacted in a while. At times he has fun figuring her out but at other times its frustrating and while Stefan has been in the dog house so to speak, you get to see how easy it is for them to read each other and while its a different dynamic its one that Tyler is threatened by in a lot of ways.

Different anon here, I agree the problem with tvd wasn’t elena, it was the writing. And it’s obvious because after Nina left it didn’t get better. My issue was that elena never lived up to the hype. There was no depth or substance to her character. The writers just expected us to believe that she was this incredibly loving person whose friends would constantly fight for. For example they never go into detail as to why Bonnie has so much love for elena and is willing to die for her. 1/2

Well I go into great detail about the problem with Elena quite often:

Elena does have a clearly defined personality the problem is that the personality lacks follow through and therefore it doesn’t have clearly defined execution.

Elena is supposed to be a deeply empathetic and compassionate person who loves passionately and makes reckless decisions to keep those she loves safe. She is supposed to be a caretaker, which is why in 2x04 when Caroline is trying to drive a wedge between her and Stefan she tells Elena she’s too maternal not to have kids. She is supposed to be understanding and non-judgemental, which gives her the ability to ‘see the good in everyone.’ She is also supposed to have “darkness” in her because she will do morally questionable things to ensure the outcome she wants and she can be emotionally manipulative although that’s mostly towards Damon. And after watching season 2, I’m realizing she is supposed to have a legit martyr complex.

But like I said, the problem is follow-through. Elena can’t have a martyr complex when the narrative works so hard to keep her from actually having to sacrifice anything, the intent to martyr herself is not enough because it makes the audience go, easy for you to say, Elena, you don’t actually have to be the Bonnie in this situation, do you?

Elena being empathetic and compassionate doesn’t really work that well when she’s dating the man who single-handedly terrorized each and every one of her friends

If Elena can’t help but try and find a modicum of goodness in everyone around her that she would do mental gymnastics to find something in Damon, then her empathy would have to be a huge problem, like it would kind of have to drive her crazy. Like there’s a scene in Grey’s Anatomy when Meredith and Derek are fighting because they have a patient who is a serial killer and Meredith sympathizes with him and Derek is like, he is a fucking serial killer! and she watches his execution because she wants to show compassion and she sort of has a breakdown because of it

[cont’d] and she doesn’t even come across as a good friend because when she is with her friends, if they’re not talking about her problems and are instead talking about Caroline’s issues and the one, two times they talk about Bonnie, Elena doesn’t say much, she usually just shrugs or makes a noise (and that’s not Elena’s fault, that’s the writing’s fault).

Her being maternal and caretaker doesn’t work well when Elena doesn’t actually do much to show this. All she really does is hug people and that’s not enough. When Jeremy is a legit drug dealer in season 1 and gets into a fight with Tyler when he’s drunk and has an actual bottle, Elena literally lets Jeremy walk away, she pretty much let’s Jeremy do his own thing, if she’s as worried about him as the show is trying to tell us she is, then that’s when Elena goes to the smokers den and drags him into class, it’s when she’s blowing up his phone and calling everyone he hangs out with. She needs to be involved not passively concerned.

And the other thing is because Elena is supposed to be such a nice person and the show just wants to make her this wholeheartedly good person they forget that good people can have complex emotions.

the show wants to show that Elena is so understanding and can see things from every possible perspective that she could hug Tyler even after he brought a werewolf to the lakehouse and tried to hunt her and Stefan and kill them and I’m just kind of like … … I don’t buy it because you guys aren’t really selling it because you don’t give me the details that make that kind of behaviour seem realistic and not Mary Sue-ish. What I would need for that to be realistic is a scene, a quick one, where Damon is telling Elena that Tyler is a threat and needs to be killed and Stefan is saying that Tyler doesn’t need to be killed but he’s still potentially a threat and Elena being like well Damon you killed his uncle and all of us helped cover it up and now that he’s found out I don’t exactly blame him for being angry at us, he has every right to be angry at us, I have no idea what I would do if Jeremy wasn’t wearing the ring when you killed him so I think we just need to approach this with understanding since Tyler is in his right! And then she and Stefan go to the lakehouse and what happened happens and Tyler is MORE visibly shaken by what happened because Tyler is just kind of like “oh. my bad”

but if he was actually like on the ground, crying being like, I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S RIGHT OR WRONG ANYMORE and Elena kneels next to him and holds him then I could buy that.

Once again, in BTVS, Willow endangers Buffy’s younger sister Dawn because she’s going through a magic addiction and it creates a situation where Dawn actually slaps her and Buffy is walking away from Willow and Willow like falls to the ground, crying, saying she needs help

and even though Buffy is FURIOUS she still comforts her

[cont’d] Elena should have that. Elena should struggle with the idea of martyring herself, she should be like Stefan, do you really think I want to die? I’m seventeen, of course I don’t want to die, this entire situation sucks but what sucks more is that everyone else is bending over backwards doing things that will get them killed to make sure I stay alive, I would rather just be dead. You can call me selfish if you want, but none of you are dying if I can help it. Just something like that. Instead we get her having a breakdown over the fact that she was supposed to grow up and have kids and not become a vampire, they should’ve changed that to her breaking down about the choice she made but also not regretting it.

But characterization is not a problem unique to Elena. Damon has PLENTY of contradictions:

Season 1 was all about how Damon would do anything to get Katherine back — it’s not like Elena awakened in Damon the capacity to feel because he’d been feeling and waiting for Katherine for over 100 years. So when Stefan and Damon have that exchange in 2x01 when Stefan goes on and on about how Damon feels something for Elena and he won’t let Katherine come in and destroy that part of him and in season 3, when he’s like “I get it, Elena, I care too much. How ironic.” I’m sitting there like but that part of him was NEVER destroyed! Damon’s problem is that he can’t handle what he feels so he kills people because it’s easier than dealing with his shit. If anything it was Stefan who was unwilling to feel, unwilling to be vulnerable and let someone in and meeting Elena forced him to do that […]

And Damon doesn’t even try to hide the fact that he feels emotions deeply when he kills people because he’s hurt, he’s not stoic and he’s not a brooder, he doesn’t hide how he feels.

And I’ve spoken about the friend dynamics:

With Caroline and Elena I said that I would want actual development there. One of the issues with Elena is that the show just wanted her to be all around likeable, she had no problems with anyone and if anyone had problems with her it was a that person thing not a them and Elena thing. But Caroline and Elena would be more believable as friends and more interesting as friends if they started out as frenemies, if we kept it here

and we found out more about their backstory and how things used to be when Elena’s parents were alive, Elena essentially being the Serena to Caroline’s Blair except not as close as Serena and Blair yet close enough for Elena to care if Caroline got hurt

then Caroline became a vampire and got introduced into that world and through saving her life from Damon and Stefan teaching her and her just being around all the time and Bonnie not fully embracing the vampirism thing, the two of them got closer and became friends more than frenemies

I think that would’ve been better and I would’ve development over they’ve all been BEST friends since they were kids.

For Bonnie and Elena, I need a reason why Bonnie and Elena are bonded for life. I need a reason why Bonnie would go so hard for Elena and I need reciprocity. The issue with TVD is that the writers seem to think that hugging all the time shows closeness because really that’s all Elena does for Bonnie, she hugs her

and they have great chemistry as friends but they don’t have a story. What Bonnie and Elena need is an understanding that only they get.

But the issue I was having with that anon is that they kept conflating characterization with agency because for the way all of the characters are actually written, Caroline or Jeremy or Jenna or Alaric or Enzo or Matt would not make better “less boring” protagonists because they are not active. Is there potential in having them as protagonists, yes, but there was potential in having Elena as a protagonist too. As I said, Bonnie is the one who actually goes through an active journey and has to save people and has to sacrifice and has to learn spells and battle ancient vampires so aligning with her would be radically different than aligning with Elena but not so much anyone else and as you said, we see that in seasons 6-8. Caroline’s storyline in season 6 doesn’t go anywhere. Her mother died but Stefan and her relationship to him is really what we focus on, like seriously, they make her confront him about their relationship at her mother’s funeral and then have her turn off her humanity because he wouldn’t tell her he likes her. How is that any better than season one? In season 7, she’s impregnated without her consent and knowledge and instead of focusing on how that would affect her, we focus on Ric’s feelings. She doesn’t drive plot, she reacts to story. Bonnie was stuck in a Prison World with two serial killers then she was stuck in it alone and became suicidal and then had to claw her way out of the world, that’s an active plot and she drove it.

What are some of Claudine's likes and dislikes? I love how you craft her to be spicy and saucy with her tongue, yet accomplished in her studies and quick on her feet (literally and figuratively).

All that reading of the Bible and being secretary to administrative work, listening in to speechs of a very well-spoken and well-read man, and having to defend her faith and later on seduce and manipulate people paid off dividends.

Likes

Books.

After being forced to read and study the Bible and other (verystrictly curated) books about Christianity over and over again, andbeing denied all manner of literature that ends up on thebarges--either overrun copies of cheap/generic adventure/romancestories, or hardcover copies of serious texts like that of history orphilosophy--Claudine finds herself enjoying finally seeing all the“blasphemous and subversive” material that Frollo has so warnedher will corrupt her mind and turn her away from God.

Philosophy interests her primarily, as she’s always been toldthat there is but One Truth, and that is (the Christianinterpretation of) God, and seeing all the many different ways peopleinterpret the meaning of life, what is our purpose, and the manydifferent explanations as to why we do the things we do interest her.

She develops a great interest in Psychology, especially theconcept of “mental gymnastics” whereby people bend overbackwards, go through hoops, and perform all manner of impressivefeats of reasoning and justification just to defend their beliefs,their choices, and their worldviews.

Of particular interest to her is religious extremism and hypocrisyin Religions of all forms, though for obvious reasons she studiesChristianity first and foremost, and second is the way Auradon’s peoplejustify their unfair and inherently skewed social order.

On a leisurely reading note, she really likes romancenovels, adventure stories, and “slice-of-life” works that showher how relationships are supposed to be, protagonists overcomingoverwhelming odds and their own hang-ups through determination,personal growth, and friendship, and how life is supposed to be whenyou’re lucky enough to be born into a (mostly) well-functioningfamily.

Fashion

Because of the limited materials on the Isle, Maleficent having amonopoly on most supplies, and the Evil Queen taking the lion’sshare of good stuff for herself and Evie, a broke and withoutconnections girl like Claudine was forced to rely on just two fashionstyles:

Highly conservative and simple dresses with long sleeves andskirts, and repurposed linens, and of course

Heavily modified and scandalized school uniforms that theiroriginal owners had outgrown and couldn’t find anyone to hand itdown to

She really rather enjoys the expanded choice she has here inAuradon, access to raw materials and fashion from all over the worldas now she can go to all the Well Intentions branch in Auradon Cityand pick-up all the “pre-loved” items for a pittance, planoutfits in advance without fear of it getting stolen, and justgenerally mix-and-match with more styles, designs, and moods than sheever thought possible

It also helps that Esmeralda bonds with her by doing each others’hair and make-up, making outfits for each other that express thesexuality they’re so comfortable with than hide it like mostAuradonians do, along with assisting the drives for collecting goodsand items for the less fortunate

This is both for the ostracized and forgotten of Auradon, and thepeople of the Isle of the Lost. “True, they could just scavenge itfrom the trash, but it feels so much better to open a box that wasmeant for you specifically.”

Confident and Principled Public Figures

Personal bias: Claudine is a VERY big fan of my interpretation ofElsa in the Descendants universe, modeling herself after her assomeone who is not willing to just let awful systems thrive andquestionable decisions be because “that’s just the way thingsare,” be able to ignore her “Pharisees” without even givingthem the time of day, and she also rather enjoys the fact that theIce Queen is a Mistress of Sick Burns.

After living in a congregation of Yes People that just constantlyexcuse and justify everything in their mind so their fragileworldviews are never shattered, Claudine finds great admiration,respect—and if we’re being totally honest, sexual attraction—topeople that are willing to stand by their beliefs in the face offerocious unpopularity, threats and insults, and have unshakablefaith to one thing:

In her words, “What can I say? I get wet for someone whorises up and doesn’t back down until you give them a damn goodreason.”

Assomeone who dislikes plasticity, hypocrisy, and shallowness as muchas Claudine, Auradon “Reality TV” REALLY gets on her nerves.While nowhere near as trashy or awful as that of Jersey Shorehere, the point still remains that a lot of this shows areshowing carefully planned, scripted, and highly exaggerated versionsof events being pedaled as “the real, unedited thing.”

Claudinecan see right through the bullshit of the adventures of “The GoodSamaritans” with a quick Google search about all the good thingsthe show has actually done, and whether or not their workstuck after the end of the episode, and it gets even worse when shereads about (and sees for herself) the kind of complacency, lack ofcritical thinking, and shallowness excessive TV watching breeds.

Anddon’t get her started with the replies and the messages sentwhenever she criticizes the shows on Social Media…

Alongsideher fellow 3rd Wave VK Anthony Tremaine, she utterlydespises “the boob tube” and how something so good on paperbecame something so horrible in reality.

SocialMedia in General

Claudinedespises Social Media.

Shehates the careful cultivation of personas and outward looks thatdon’t nearly reflect the ugly realities, the careful cutting andpasting of which elements of your life to show off to others tryingto do the same. She hates the constant emphasis on number of friends,likes, and shares, as if that actually meant any sort of meaningfulachievement. She hates the fact that echo chambers, bias, and trollsare a thing there, constantly getting into arguments that she can’tend with her ultimate, never-fail rebuttal:

Kickingsomeone in the crotch, before flipping the bird at them.

Shehates how it just grows all the insecurities she has about beingostracized and left alone by everyone all over again. She hates thefact that it makes her hyper-aware of her appearance, that it bringsup her self-image issues when someone criticizes her for being toorisque, and she hates the fact that she finds herself constantlycomparing to other, prettier girls, with seemingly more perfectlives, and definitely healthy, happy, and not-abusive-nor-crazyparents and family lives.

Butmost of all, she hates that she can’t quit it.

Shehates the fact that “Outcasts” like her all over Auradon tend toconnect with each other on Social Media and the internet for avariety of reasons. She hates the fact that it’s one of her onlyreal platforms to express her opinion, use the voice that has beenconstantly shushed by her father and the congregation for so manyyears. She hates the fact that this very same thing that helpscultivate the “it’s always sunny and happy in Auradon” is alsothe one thing that is rapidly helping dismantle it as the Outcastsare now finding their voices once more, joining in solidarity withthe VKs to finally make Auradon a paradise for everyone.

Inher words, “I know I’m on Storybook like 16 hours a day,everyday—WHY DO YOU THINK I’M SO PISSED OFF ALL THE TIME?!”

Hypocritesand Opportunists

Thisis the reason she does not get along very well with Audrey, Chad, orher fellow 3VK Richard “Rick” Ratcliffe: they’re incrediblyhypocritical, engaging in mean and cruel behaviour despite seeing andthinking themselves as “Good” people; incredibly keen on jumpingon every last opportunity to better themselves and will flag fromtheir principles as soon as it proves more convenient to switch sides when the going gets tough; or both.

Shehas lived ten years of her life praising and loving a man whoespoused himself as the epitome of Goodness and Righteousness in aland of Sinners and Heathens, and from both personal experience andhearing the other side of the story, learned just how much his actiondoesn’t match his rhetoric, the things he will believe and tellhimself and others in order to justify doing the exact opposite ofwhat it is he’s supposed to be doing.

ThatFrollo was also indirectly responsible for Claudine almost dying in afire doesn’t help.

Inher words, “You can’t do anything with someone that’ll get softand back down at the first sign of trouble, and you don’t wantanything to do with someone that’ll do everything and believeanything just to get their way.”

I want Caroline to drop her brothers not because I don't like them but because she was never their priority. She knows that when it comes to everything Damon would choose Stefan over her & Elena and vice versa. Also to me it's clear she is an afterthought. Like they didn't think of HER when they married her to Klaus but when things got tough for them they all of a sudden decided to get her out. Had things gone smoothly they'd be like suck it up sis, it is what it is.

I agree but I also feel the lines are more blurred.

There is a reason as to why Caroline still is willing to fight for her brothers. Despite everything they still are her brothers and she loves them but in the same way they do to. But their love just isn’t enough. Not when both of her brothers have been twisted into the monsters they are now.

I think it is complicated because Caroline was also ready to move on with her life and given the chance to never look back. In her quest for freedom her family has been an afterthought which (and here is a spoiler of you) her father would never allow to happen. As long as Giuseppe was alive Caroline had managed to go to college but she was still under his watchful eye and he knew that as long as he lived he would be able to bring her back into the fold. Giuseppe valued two things the most. Honor and intelligence. He was into tradition himself but the fact that he had allowed his daughter the chance for education (something that could be useful for her...and their family) speaks volumes. Giuseppe would never allow Caroline’s mind to go to waste or to not find a way to use it as an asset.

Giuseppe was not a good father. He was one of the most successful mafia leaders which meant he was also one of the worst. And he ruled with an iron fist inside and outside his family. In his family he was abusive, controlling and strict and the way he handled his children(either it was preferential treatment or simply the fact that he prepared each one of his kids for something different which required different approach and handling) had created a divided between them too especially between Damon and Caroline. Stefan is no less broken or messed up too btw.

So Caroline wanted to escape the mafia life which included her brothers too. It was her right for sure but those also affected their dynamics.

Stefan on the other hand cares for her and has been her friend and confident but he is first and foremost loyal to his father’s legacy and to his brother that is now the Boss. Stefan is all about honor too. Stefan wanted to honor his father’s wish and at the same point it is not as if he could stop Damon once he had made his mind about the wedding. Damon is not only Stefan’s brother. He is his Capo. Damon in the Don of the Salvatore family. He is officially the head of the family now. And he is young and many want to overthrow him. He is in deep. There is no room for sentiments here. And there’s not a lot Stefan could do to help Caroline unless he helped her escape? To convince Damon wouldn’t happen. Or unless he deflected from the Outfit and took Caroline with him which would bring ruin to their family and would make both him and Caroline traitors and could lead to their deaths. He could have tried to convince Damon to stop Caroline’s marriage to Klaus sure and if that happened then what? With Giuseppe dying they all became weaker. Caroline going on her own was like putting a target on her back. Plus the promise of marriage was already made and if they broke it war would break again worse than before along with the Lockwood threat and then they’d have to marry Caroline anyway to someone else to ensure some alliance that would help them against the bloodshed. It was an one way street and so Stefan chose to side with whatever Giuseppe saw in this union and strive for peace even if it meant that outcome for his sister that she would at least get to live and not live her life on the run only to be found and be punished if not killed. No one escapes the mafia. Stefan knows it. And he also has to take care of his family because of Elena. He needs to protect her too. It is a matter of priorities in a situation of life and death.

And if we are being honest here Damon also said to Stefan that he has a plan to free Caroline and it does not fall in line with whatever Giuseppe wanted.

"Because at the first sign of trouble I will take her out of that snake pit and send her away," Damon lashed out and Stefan tilted his head in surprise, "this is what she wanted after all wasn't it? A life away from us? To be free from all of this? Eventually, I will make sure she gets it. When the time is right," Damon told Stefan.

Damon is willing to use Caroline as a pawn while also ensuring her life (her physical survival anyway) but in the long run when he has no more use for her he is willing to let her go. They are all paying a price here. In his mind it is only fair for Caroline to do the same. Why do they have to bend backwards and her to be only sheltered but benefit from their protection and wealth and have all the choices he and Stefan could never get? And in the end he is willing to set her free. Either it is because they don’t share a strong bond or because deep down they do in the end Damon is willing to bend the rules of their world and give Caroline her freedom once he has managed to secure his position and their family’s survival. Damon is not as clueless either. He knows their lives are at stake here so he is willing to do whatever is necessary to ensure they survive too. And after Caroline’s wedding he also got into a confrontation with Kol for her.

Damon’s mistake here is that he is treating Caroline as a pawn instead of a useful ally and can’t look past Caroline being ‘Giuseppe’s favorite’ and Stefan’s that he doesn’t move beyond his superficial need to be ‘honorable’ for their family’s legacy and survival. They both care but keep in mind these people are criminals.

If they communicated better however things would probably work out better for them too.
