The history of the real life von Erichs!!
I finally decided to get around to making a post about the Von Erich family and the real life story, now a bit of a disclaimer this is in no way shape or form to be meant as disrespectful or offensive towards the family , I’m just wanting to share the history behind them and I’ll also link the documentary that explains more of the Von Erich story.
Trigger warning: mention of Sucide, drug use and death, and Cancer.
So i got really interested in wrestling like a few weeks ago, after i watched the movie ironclaw and watched a documentary on the real life thing.
The movie and documentary is based around the Von Erichs (original name Addkison) there were six brothers i believe
Jack jr (he was named after their dad fritzs who’s real name was Jack)
Kevin
David (he was named after their mom’s brother who was 14 at the time of David birth and he was dying of cancer)
Kerry
Mike
And Chris
Jack died when he was six he was eldest and well that was the first death of many that would follow, in the 80’s the brother kevin, david and kerry followed in there dads footsteps and became wrestlers , they had become the biggest wrestlers in Texas and they even called David the yellow rose of Texas.
These three fought against another group named the fabulous free birds, up until 84 when david was supposed to fight against rick flair for the world championship title in Japan, but that never ended up happening, the morning of the match Bruser broody found David dead in his hotel room. After that they tried replacing David with another “von erich” who frizts (the dad) claimed the other person was a cousin, but everyone found out that wasn’t true. They lost some fans after that.
Next in death was mike and Chris
One in 87 one in 91 both of sucide
Chris wanted to be like his brother’s but that was hard he had Asthma and had to take medicine for it , which caused him to have brittle bone , he ended up braking his shoulder in the ring and got toxic shock syndrome, he survived that but that caused some damage to his brain and he ended up taking his own life.
Last brother was kerry who died in 93 in the 80’s he got into a motorcycle accident and lost his foot not alot of people knew that and he fought with only one foot no one could tell, but he got addicted to pain meds his life ended in sucide as well, in 97 there dad fritz died of brain and lung cancer. After that Kevin the last living brother still alive today retired from
Wrestling and moved to Hawaii with his wife and kids, his mom died in 2015, kevin is the only last surviving original Von erich brother.
His son’s are actually wrestlers to , alot of people specially the mom believed the death were do to a cruse but Kevin doesn’t believe that.

The Von Erich Family Curse Left Only One Surviving Son
In the 1950s, wrestler Jack Adkisson created his sinister alter ego, Fritz Von Erich, and began what would become a successful career in the sport. The Von Erich family curse began during this time, in 1959, when Jack's six-year-old son was lost in a bizarre electrical accident: knocked unconscious by a short circuit in his family's trailer park, he fell into a puddle and drowned.
Jack's remaining sons went on to become successful wrestlers, though they, too, suffered unfortunate fates: David Von Erich died suddenly in 1984 at age 26 during a wrestling tour in Japan, reportedly from acute enteritis of the upper intestine, though he was rumored to have mixed alcohol with a bottle of sleeping pills; Mike Von Erich, after shoulder surgery in 1985, contracted toxic shock syndrome, which he narrowly survived. He suffered from an altered mental state and sunk into poor mental health. He ended his own life in 1987 at the age of 23.
In 1986, Kerry Von Erich was wounded in a motorcycle incident that led to the eventual amputation of his foot. After struggling with pain and drug addiction for years, he took his life in 1993 at age 33. The youngest son, Chris Von Erich, dealt with numerous health issues which ultimately overwhelmed him: he, too, ended his own life at age 22 in 1991. Six years later, Jack Von Erich succumbed to cancer of the brain and lungs.
Doris, their mother, passed at age 82 in 2015. Kevin Von Erich is the only surviving member of the family.

saw the iron claw
Tumblr media
Probably one of the best films I've seen this year, didn't expect to like it this much but O really do. Saw it at a mid-day matinee showing; originally i was going to see Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom but when I saw that The Iron Claw was also showing I knew I had to see it (though i did flip a coin and it came up Aquaman but I still saw Iron Claw). I went in thinking that I wanted a schlocky pulpy movie to pass the time, and there is a place for movies like that; but when I saw this movie I got exactly what I needed: something that surprised me, something that made me actually feel. I think the thing that really got me when watching it is just how genuine the brothers are. all the brothers are really good in this, not a single one is worse than another each one elevates the whole lot. This film made me cry my eyes out and made me clap at some sick wrestling. I do completely get why people think this movie doesn't have much oomph, most of the deaths happen offscreen; this isn't a very gruesome movie, but near the end the oomph finally comes and completely destroyed me. I'm not going to say exactly but if you see the movie I think you'll know. This movie works even if you know everything about the Von Erichs but still you should go in as blind as you can just cause.
p.s. all the brothers are super hot but the movie's so good that i genuinely stopped noticing their bodies and was more focused on their minds/personality
4.5/5 damn good film

The Iron Claw
Tumblr media
A24 producing a pro wrestling biopic about the Von Erich family is so exciting. I’m not at all familiar with writer and director Sean Durkin but I’m still really hyped, especially since the cast looks solid. The movie is going to have a challenge with portraying professional wrestling but I have faith that it will be done well.
According to IMDb the cast includes:
Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich
Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich
Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich
Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich
Maura Tierney as Doris (Fritz’s Wife)
Lily James (Character Unknown)
Maxwell Jacob Friedman (Character Unknown)

Hey guys! So I wanted to take a quick break from my Hannibal posting to tell you some more history on the Von Erich family specially the dad. I’m writing an essay on this (just for fun cause why not) and thought I would share some history About the main man behind this. Fritz(jack) von Erich.
*Fritz’s Von erich father and mentor*
Fritzs(real name jack) was born in jewett Texas in 1929 his sir name was Adkisson. He met his wife Doris( who’s Maiden name was Smith) while in high school, they got married in 1950 when he was 20
And she was 17.
He attended southern methodist university where he threw discus and played football. He was reported to have played for the now defunct Dallas Texans, but that wasn’t true he was signed as a guard but was eventually Cut, he then tried playing for the Canadian football league.
In 1952 is when they’re first son jack Jr (named after Fritz’s ) was born.
Fritzs was trained and booked by Stu Hart. While wrestling he was paired with Waldo Von Erich, and they were known as a pair of evil German brothers.
Several years later in 1959 Fritzs son Jack Died of a electrocution and drowning which caused Fritzs to stop traveling the east coast and allowing his former wrestling partner to continue using the name Von Erich.
The 1960’s was a big time for Fritzs despite jack’s death he continued wrestling and in 1963 he won both versions of the AWA world title. His major circuit was when he was playing in St, Louis Missouri at Sam Muchnick’s NWA territorial stronghold,
He wrestles there until 1967.
After he voluntarily left the territory after losing the match for the NWA world heavyweight champion against then champion Gene Kinisk.
Fritz soon became a promoter after that for most of the Dallas territory and overseeing the Huston and San Antonio territories as well.
(This next part is me giving credit to wiki links for what I’m about to write/ copy paste)
Adkisson was a part of rebuilding Japanese wrestling after the stabbing death of Rikidōzan. He became a star due to his feuds with Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba, and his "Iron Claw" hold, which became one of the most popular wrestling moves in Japan.
In 1982 shortly after retiring he held his first retirement match against king Kong bundy in the newly renamed world class champion wrestling based in Dallas. The promotion was known for its high production value and use of entrance music along with the use of television syndication. The promotion was one the most successful territories in the United States, due to having major draws like wrestling such as his own sons, the fabulous free birds ,bruiser broody and other big names at the time.
His last match was in 1986 against Abdullah the Butcher only by disqualification in Dallas. At the end of the 1980’s the promotion pool was thin it would eventually be merged with Jerry jarrett’s continental wrestling association to create the USWA( United States wrestling association) in 1989.
