David Dunbar Buick was born at 26 Green Street, Arbroath on September 17th in 1854.
He emigrated to the USA with his parents at the age of two. Although he founded the Buick Manufacturing Company which later became General Motors, Buick’s early success was largely due to his patented process for bonding porcelain to iron, a process that helped fuel the craze for white porcelain bathtubs. But Buick wasn’t all about tubs.
In 1899, after becoming engrossed in this new technology known as gasoline engines for automobiles, Buick established the Auto Vim and Power Co. to produce engines for farm and stationary use. He sold his plumbing business for $100,000 to raise capital for his new venture and began tinkering with using the engines he produced to power four-wheeled vehicles. Two years later, he founded the Buick Manufacturing Company to make engines for various car makers and to make cars himself.
Unfortunately Buick, although a brilliant craftsman was a terrible businessman, he actually only made 120 cars along with his partner Ben Briscoe, before selling his remaining share to William C. Durant who insured that the company grew successfully, so although countless cars have bore his name David Buick died of cancer on March 5, 1929. At the times of his death he was working as an inspector at a Detroit trade school. Buick, the man, was all but forgotten. Briscoe wrote in 1921 that had Buick been able to keep his shares in the firm, they would have been worth more than $10 million at that time. Their value today would be almost incalculable.
Buicks are still made, according to wiki they sold over 1.2 million vehicles in 2015, the main market nowadays is China! The cars baring the Scotsman's name are also sold, mainly in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

A Whole New Chapter
In past blogs I’ve written every week or two. Here I am nearly 3 months into this current adventure and I finally sit down to write. I was really planning to give this up but I’ve endured a fair amount of grief from some of my readers, and with a hopefully blog-worthy event coming up (road trip!) Georgia has encouraged me to get back with the program.
Lots of catching up to do! But before I even get to the Philippines, I’ll take you back all the way to our previous trip. One day, as I was paying the bills necessary to maintain a home in the mountains of California, I thought about the monthly costs for electricity, propane, water, sewer, home & auto insurance, property taxes, etc. and wondered why we were paying so dearly for a home we only used half the time, and planned to use even less in the future. Georgia and I thought about it and talked and decided to downsize and relocate our base in the US, and spend most of our time over here – maybe 9-10 months a year.
And between May 2023 and our return here in March, that’s just what we did. We first found a small home on a ¾ acre lot, still under construction, in Fernley, Nevada. This promised much lower expenses than Graeagle, plus Nevada has no state income tax. As one example, our homeowner’s insurance is $328 per year, while we paid more than that every month for the house in Graeagle. Everything else has scaled accordingly, and though we’re not particularly in love with Fernley, it gives us what we need when we’re there, and we feel safe just locking up the house and leaving for 5-6 months at a time.
Tumblr media
The new US Headquarters in Fernley
The house in Graeagle was put on the market in September, and in one day we had a buyer, with cash, and the deal was done! We stayed in the house until after Georgia’s son Matt was married (in Graeagle) then began the move to Fernley. By November 15 we were Nevada residents.
Max
Although Max was well taken care of while we were gone, by Georgia’s sister Dignah, we were the ones who suffered, missing him terribly. We decided to bring him with us, and leave him here during our short return trips to the US. Our caretakers love dogs so it should work out well.
I asked my nephew, who flies for a major airline, about the best way to fly a dog overseas. “Easy” he said, “he just needs to get registered as a medical service dog then he gets to fly in the cabin, for free.” Lucky for us, he’d done that for one of his own dogs and knew the ropes. Soon enough, Max was a “trained and certified” service dog, able to alert to Georgia’s condition. And no, ADA laws do not allow you to ask what that condition is.
Tumblr media
Doesn't he look handsome on his ID card?
That was indeed the easy part, and only guaranteed Max a comfy seat on the plane. The path started with Max’s vet, who researched the health and vaccination requirements both for import to the Philippines and export from the US. Max got to know his vet well over the next few months but, as attested to by the lengthy USDA export form, he was perfectly healthy. A complete medical and vaccination history was provided to the Philippines Bureau of Animal Imports to receive an import clearance, and various US DOT forms had to be completed.
Thus armed with a large stack of paperwork, and a suitcase full of Wubbas and Chuckit balls, we set off for our flights from Reno to SFO, then SFO to Manila. The gate agent in Reno didn’t want to see any of the papers; she told us that it would be handled at SFO before the international flight. Nope, at SFO we just walked onto the plane and settled into our business class seats. Max had it pretty good for sure!
Tumblr media
Surely we’ll have to provide paperwork to get Max through the airport in Manila, right? Well, again, no. Through Immigration, baggage claim, and Customs, Max just trotted along beside us. The whole trip and not once were we asked to provide any documentation. Welcome to the Philippines, Max!
The most amazing thing though, was Max’s bladder control. He used an animal relief area outside the Reno terminal before our first flight, wouldn’t go near the stinky in-terminal relief station in SFO, held it through both flights, then through the terminal in Manila, finally taking a potty break outside the terminal. Super-human!
Kawayan Cove
It was nice to get back to our home, after being back in the states for a very busy 10 months. Nice especially as the caretakers had done a good job maintaining both home and gardens. Ready to move in and relax!
After greeting everyone and making some instant friends, Max spotted the swimming pool. It was a hot day (and he soon found out that every day is hot here!) and in he went. A quick lesson on where the steps were so he can get in & out and now swimming is a daily activity. Usually when one of us is there to throw the Chuckit ball, but we’ve seen him go down by himself and sit on the bench with water up to his chest, just cooling off.
Tumblr media
Mabini
Last trip, I wrote about our visit to nearby Mabini/Anilao, a famous dive spot in the Philippines. We noted that the second hotel we stayed in was dog-friendly so for Georgia’s birthday this year we decided to go back, taking Max this time. We all enjoyed relaxing, swimming (both pool and beach for Max), getting massages (sorry, not you, Max), and of course the bar and restaurant. We went diving one day and I got in a couple enjoyable dives, spotting lots of fish, octopus, nice corals and crinoids, turtles, and a number of colorful nudies (nudibranchs).

New Car
I had a plan for this trip to replace our Innova with a Toyota Fortuner SUV (a model not available in the US but similar to the Toyota Highlander). More luxurious, better ride and handling, but still retaining a lot of utility for hauling people and stuff around. Georgia had a better idea (as she's prone to have), to get a really small car mainly for use in and around town, something that will be easier to drive and park in the crowded markets.
We originally settled on a Toyota Wigo (again, no equivalent in the US), a very compact “city car” with a mighty 1.0L engine. Buying a new car here isn’t like in the US, where you practically have to shake salespeople off your legs. Even a test drive isn’t standard here; we actually had to go to 3 dealerships to get one. OK, one dealer did let us drive a Wigo, but only around the dealership parking lot! In the 3rd dealership though, we noticed a little bit larger mini-SUV called the Raize. About the same height and width as the Wigo, but somewhat longer and with lots more room inside. Comparison drives between the Wigo and Raize convinced us that the Raize’s even mightier 1.2L engine was worthwhile, plus it was more comfortable overall. A deal was struck and we’re now enjoying our new mini-SUV!
Tumblr media
Georgia’s mom is also wanting a car for the Philippines, and it turns out that our Innova is exactly what she’s looking for. We’ve made a deal to sell it to her, so now we’re looking for its replacement. I may get my Fortuner after all!
Driver’s Licenses
Regarding the story above, I got to test drive the cars; Georgia didn’t. The salesperson noted that her license had expired the day before, which was her actual birthday. Mine didn't expire until July so I was good to go.
We’d been clued in to the existence of a Land Transportation Office (LTO) branch in a nearby shopping center that only handles driver’s license renewals, which was said to be very efficient compared to dealing with the full-service LTO. The requirements for renewal are basically passing a medical exam and a written test. We went to the medical office, conveniently next door to the LTO, for our exams. After filling out a short medical history, my exam consisted of getting weighed, height measured, and reading one line of inch-high letters on an eye chart. Every other result of the required “exam” was just filled in by the staff. And then, as I was waiting for my exam results to be registered, I was handed a certificate stating that I’d passed the written test with a score of 92%. VERY efficient indeed, considering that I’d never seen a test. I do wonder what questions I got wrong though…
In less than an hour overall, we both walked out with 10-year renewals on of driver’s licenses. I’ll be almost 80 when this one expires, hope I’m around to get it renewed!
And BTW, I’m mad because Georgia outscored me on the written test, getting a 96!
Billiards
Billiards is a popular activity in the Philippines, probably because it’s played indoors in air-conditioned rooms. I’ve played occasionally here with Herve, who has a table, but this year we’ve hooked up with Kawayan Cove neighbors Graham (of English garden fame) and Andy (a New Yorker who lives mostly in Singapore). Also in our group, from neighboring developments, are Jean (Belgian), and Robert (Canadian). We call our informal group the “Sandy Balls Billiards Club” and we play a “tournament” every weekend, each putting 100 Pesos (about $1.75) into a winner-take-all prize pool. I’ve won once, hoping to continue to improve my game.

Road Trip!
We’ve been talking about a road trip to the far northern reaches of Luzon for some time; we finally decided to do it. And just like our road trip to Baguio and Sagada in 2018, we’re not driving or taking our car, rather hiring both. Reminds me of an old commercial…
Car rental = $40/day
Driver = $20/day
Food and Lodging for Driver = $10/day
Sitting in the back and enjoying the ride = Priceless!
Our itinerary will include La Union, Vigan, Pagudpud, Santa Teresita, Tuguegarao, and Baguio. Stay tuned!
Sunset(s)
We’re still enjoying our sunsets, nearly every evening. Since it’s been almost 3 months I’ll throw in some bonus photos!

All for now, take care everyone!

Take the housing market. Home sale prices have come off of their 2022 peak, but they're still 47% higher than they were in 2019, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index. Even if you manage to find a deal, getting a loan is going to be costly. Thanks to the Federal Reserve's interest-rate hikes, mortgage rates are much higher than they were just a couple of years ago: somewhere around 7%, compared with just about 2.5% in 2021. Not only do these high rates weigh on prospective buyers, but anyone thinking of selling their home — hello, boomers — is likely to be turned off because their current mortgage rate is probably lower than a new one. With both buyers and sellers feeling the squeeze from higher mortgage rates, and with homebuilders unable to keep up, the inventory of available homes has collapsed. And as much as a lot of people would like to see a housing-market bubble burst, that's probably not in the cards.
The car market is in a similar situation. Vehicles are expensive. Loans are getting tougher to come by, and even if you manage to get credit, elevated interest rates are making financing costly. Car insurance is much more than it used to be, too. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' most recent consumer price index indicates the cost of car insurance is up by more than 20% over the past year.
When it comes to work, the vibe is static, too. Yes, the labor market is strong, but it's not a great time to go looking for a new job. Companies aren't laying people off en masse, but they're also not bringing employees on board quickly. Hiring has slowed significantly from where it was in 2021 and 2022. And, it's much lower than one would expect with the current unemployment rate.
"Employers are hiring as if there's a relatively weak labor market, not a strong one," said Matt Darling, a senior employment-policy analyst at the Niskanen Center, a center-right think tank.
The downshift in hiring has also tipped the balance of power back toward employers. While wages are still on the upswing, switching jobs may not come with as much of a pay bump as it did during the Great Resignation of 2021 and 2022. That may be fine for those who are happy in their jobs, which many people are, but it's not so great for those who are feeling a little antsy or underappreciated. And for those Americans who find themselves out of work and looking for a new gig, it's going to take a minute. Darling told me that for the unemployed, it takes about twice as long to get a job as it did before 2008. A job search that used to take 10 weeks at a similar unemployment rate now takes 20.
"That's obviously a huge source of dissatisfaction, because 20 weeks is a long time," Darling said. "What's that, five months to be looking for a job?"
What this all translates to is a scenario where some Americans feel trapped. They can put food on the table and fill up their gas tanks, albeit at a price they'd rather not be paying. But it's hard and expensive to move up the ladder in many meaningful ways. In a consumerist society that encourages people to want more and a culture that prizes itself on economic mobility, this level of stillness is uncomfortable. While it's still possible to get a better job or a new house, those things feel like they're off in some nebulous future, out of your control.

Short Term Loans UK Direct Lender: - Developed to Help Needy People Out of Fiscal Crunches
Tumblr media
Nobody enjoys blatantly citing insurance as protection from harm, but in order to manage crisis uses efficiently and promptly, they need credit assistance at all costs. They are now aware of the credit product known as short term loans UK direct lender, and they may apply for these advances online by completing a brief application and sending it to a loan specialist for verification. The reserve is quickly endorsed into your ledger. There is no lengthy printed content or faxing with this medium.
With this extreme advance item's arrangement, the customer can apply for a short term loans UK direct lender ranging from £100 to £2500 together with a flexible two-month reimbursement residency. Recognizing financing expenses is never difficult because loan costs are also relieved for the customer. The profit money is available for use towards any of the listed financial needs.
- The cost of other doctor visits or your mother's registration for wellness
Grocery store invoices
- The costs associated with the child's education
- Unexpected auto repair - Resolving MasterCard charges, etc.
Awful credit factors, such as CCJs, IVA, abandonment, late or missed payments, Chapter 11, or skipping portions, are easily accepted to receive financial assistance with short term cash loans when they successfully meet all requirements, such as being eighteen years old, residing in the UK, receiving benefits, and having a working credit history.
What terms of repayment are available for Short Term Loans UK?
The finest results from £1000 short term loans UK direct lender are achieved when the money is repaid quickly. For instance, if you can pay off the debt in 12 months, you might accept a 1,000 loan offer. A 1,000 payday loan, on the other hand, is exactly what it sounds like: a short term loans UK that you must repay when you get paid again in a month. In any scenario, making late payments can result in significant financial difficulties; seek assistance from the lender as soon as you can if you encounter difficulties. (Caution: Making late payments may lower your credit score.)
We are aware that, despite your desire, it is not always feasible to make larger transactions with a debit card. Finding a competitive interest rate and making sure you take each product's representative rates into account are the keys to success.
Which lenders provide the greatest value?
When examining any 1000 loan UK, keep the following things in mind:
Review the terms and conditions of the loan.
How long is the repayment period?
How does the APR compare to other deals that are comparable?
Which payments are due each month?
What is the entire amount owed?
Would the credit check pass you?
If you pass the crucial credit check, you might potentially receive a £1,000 loan directly into your bank account. However, it is necessary to be aware of all these factors beforehand.
Among the short term loans direct lenders available on the market nowadays is often a 1,000 loan. You'll be able to compare interest rates and monthly repayments more easily the more loan options you look at (with an apr representative example for each).

Farmers Insurance will stop offering its policies in Florida, including home, auto and umbrella policies, in a change that will force thousands of people to change their insurance provider. The company said in a statement that its decision to get out of Florida was a business decision necessary to manage its risk exposure in the hurricane-prone state. Farmers serves 100,000 customers in Florida but said there will be no impact to customers who use Farmers’ owned subsidiaries like Foremost Signature and Bristol West. “Such policies will continue to be available to serve the insurance needs of Floridians,” Farmers Insurance spokesperson Trevor Chapman said in a statement. “Affected customers will receive notifications detailing when their coverage will end and will be advised of options for replacement coverage.” National insurers don’t have a major presence in Florida, including Farmers, which has barely a 2% share of the state’s insurance market. Florida requires affected policyholders to receive a 120-day notice that their policies aren’t being renewed. [...] Earlier this week, Farmers limited new homeowners insurance policies in California because of high costs and wildfire risks. State Farm and Allstate also made similar changes in that state.

Cowboys
Tumblr media
Jared missed the way things used to be. There was no finesse left in this world, or so it seemed - back when he was coming up, stealing a car had been a finely skilled profession, the work of masters of a craft to which he had devoted many years of his own study, but it sometimes felt that time had made a fool of him. In today's game, any cowboy with a crowbar felt themselves qualified for a little grand theft auto, and all of that careful practice had been rendered almost obsolete.
It had been harder, back in his day. More important to do things right. From the careful jimmying of the windows, to the deft hotwiring of the ignition, he'd brought a sense of elan to the proceedings, completing each job with minimal fuss and in complete silence. Not so the car thieves of today, whose primitive smash-and-grab tactics set off every alarm in earshot, left the tarmac strewn with window-glass for anyone to trace, and even damaged the very thing they were supposed to be stealing.
But they got away with it. That was the most frustrating thing, in Jared's view - other than the dozen other ways in which they drove him up the wall. When he'd been a child, neighbours might have left their doors unlocked, but they'd also kept an eye out for each other. They'd kept an ear out, too: without landlines of their own, they'd listened for the ringing of the phone box on the nearest corner, and rushed out to take any call that came in. It didn't matter that it wasn't their business: they would find out whose it was, and pass on the message to its intended recipient.
That had all changed. Today, the phone boxes were gone, and a car in the lay-by could be blaring for ten minutes with barely a twitch of the curtains from the house next-door. If the neighbours bothered to acknowledge the alarm at all, it was only as an expression of annoyance, focused on their own suffering in the face of such a dreadful racket. They did their best to block the siren out, failing to consider that its awfulness was purposeful, and that it might have been designed to cut through their concentration for a reason.
The cowboys didn't even have to worry about leaving a trace. The cops didn't care, any more than the neighbours had: on arriving at an empty driveway, they just filled out an incident report, and gave the victims a reference number for their insurance. The thieves could drop their wallets at the scene of the crime, leave the car's GPS location on, and offer it for sale on social media, and the police would still say there was nothing they could do.
It was driving Jared mad - and, more importantly, it was driving him of business. Skills which used to be prized were now useless, and he was finding he could no longer compete with the cowboys now flooding the market. Quantity over quality. That was the modern way. It was the Wild West out there, and all of the old norms had gone out of the windscreen. There was nothing he could do to turn back the tide.
Of course, he could still go fishing.
He'd followed them, sometimes, when the alarms kicked off. Jared had trained to avoid that sound like a death knell, so he was still sensitive to it, even if nobody else was, and it called to him whenever they were working nearby. He'd started turning up to the scene of the crime - at first just to watch, to scoff at the amateurs and throw his hands up at their inexplicable success, but then he'd started taking it personally.
That curiosity had not been easily let go, and he'd wondered what other bumbling mistakes the group had made, how easy it would be to tail them home - no trouble at all, it turned out - or what exactly they were doing with all their clumsy loot. Things like that. He hadn't expect them to lead them to a parking lot chock-full of cars, all corralled together like a herd of cattle, a hundred head of sheep in a single paddock, without a single padlock holding them there.
Jared guessed that these thieves, if they'd even thought that far ahead, had figured they'd be safe from being targeted themselves. They knew to listen for the alarms, the smashed glass, even if most bystanders didn't bother - having only learnt their own way of doing things, they fancied themselves immune to it. They'd never had the benefit of Jared's education. They'd never learnt what he could do.
It was slow work, one car at a time, but he began to sneak in every night - rustling their herd by inches, taking back what they'd taken from others, what they'd taken from him. It might still be subtle by their standards, but it was the easiest work of his career: like a walk in the car park, falling off a Leaf, or taking Camrys from a baby.
The beauty was that he enjoyed all of the same advantages. They couldn't call the cops. They weren't insured. They couldn't follow him, or at least not as easily. Jared knew the old ways - how to keep a low profile, how to cover his tracks, how to steal a car and make sure that it stayed stolen. He might be nothing but an old, washed-up thief, equipped with a misplaced sense of honour and a certain set of skills, but he could be more than a match for the arrogance of these cowboys.
One car at a time, he could sprinkle a little finesse across the world. One car at a time, with gear-stick wedged firmly in reverse, he would show the world the way things used to be.

Windshield chip repair DIY or hire a professional
Tumblr media
When it comes to windshield chip repair, you have the option to do it yourself (DIY) or hire a professional. DIY repair kits are available in the market and can be a cost-effective solution for minor chips. However, it's important to note that DIY repairs may not always provide a long-lasting or aesthetically pleasing result. Factors such as the size, depth, and location of the chip can affect the success of a DIY repair. Additionally, if not done properly, DIY repairs can worsen the damage or compromise the structural integrity of the windshield.
On the other hand, hiring a professional for windshield chip repair offers several advantages. Professionals have the expertise, experience, and specialized tools to accurately assess the damage and provide an appropriate solution. They can ensure that the repair is done correctly, minimizing the risk of further damage. Professional repairs often yield better cosmetic results, making the chip less noticeable. Moreover, some insurance policies cover the cost of professional chip repairs, making it a convenient and affordable option for many.
In summary, while DIY repair kits may work for minor chips, it is generally recommended to hire a professional for windshield chip repair.
Auto Glass Ottawa, #1 windhield repair in Ottawa team are experts and use specialized tools to ensure a safer and more reliable solution, with the potential for better cosmetic results.

How to accelerate business growth?
There are 7 tips you can use to help  accelerate business growth.
Hire the right people
Focus on established revenue sources
Reduce your risks
Be adaptable
Focus on the customer experience
Invest in  yourself
Always think ahead
Tumblr media
1. Hire the right people
You need a strongest crew to justification you in achieving your objectives before you can even consider the development trajectory of your business.
In order to guarantee fast  growth, Christian Lanng, CEO and co-founder of business software supplier Tradeshift, said, "Hiring the best people you can is a surefire way to ensure rapid growth." "Having the right group is everything."
Your business will be better prepared for future growth if you have motivated personnel who are dedicated to its success. Furthermore, freeing up your time and energy to focus on critical work will enable you to perform at your best and foster a combining work environment.
2. Focus on established revenue sources
Bill Reilly, a Wisconsin-based auto repair businessman, advised focusing on the core consumers you already have rather than trying to gain new ones. According to him, you may achieve this by putting in place a referral or customer loyalty programme or by experimenting with marketing techniques based on past purchase habits to promote repeat business.
If you're looking for finance, it's crucial to focus on your existing market. In the past, Reilly added, "we would accentuate our company's desire to become a franchise, which didn't resonate with banks. "We found that it's important to underline the size of the market for what we do. A banker would be interested in this because they are more concerned with the return on investment.
3. Reduce your risks
Risk is an inevitable part of starting and growing a business. It’s impossible to control everything, but there are many ways to limit internal and external threats to your company and its growth. One important resource to help you accomplish this is your business insurance provider.
“Small businesses need to manage their development  to avoid disruptions that can bring business to a grinding halt,” said Mike DeHetre, senior vice president of underwriting and insurance at Preferred Mutual. For example, “the theft of employee data, customer records, and product designs can destroy a small business, generating significant costs and eroding customer belief in oneself  and faithful,” he said. “Not every business owner’s policy covers data breaches or other cyber losses. Small businesses should be prepared by seeking insurance products that help them recover, including those that cover the cost of remediation and lawsuits.”
As your small business grows, you may add space or equipment, create new products or services, or increase your operating and distribution footprint. Therefore, DeHetre recommended reviewing your policy periodically to ensure you have the right coverage.
“It’s easy to forget this step amid fast expansion, but you don’t want to find out that you’ve outgrown your coverage just when you need it the most,” he said.
4. Be adaptable
One trait that a lot of successful startups have in common is the ability to switch directions fastly in response to changes in the market. Lanng said an agile approach to development, both in your product and your company, will help you grow more quickly.
“By allowing yourself to homogenise and change fastly, you’re capable of testing various viewpoints  to business and search for  what works best,” Lanng told Business News Daily. “It allows you to fail, pick yourself back up and keep going.”
Chris Cornell, founder and CEO of Manhead Merchandise, said his company has found adaptability to be key in expanding its client base beyond its initial focus on music merchandise.
“Look at current pop culture trends for a chance to become part of the movement when it makes sense,” he said. “In an era of internet fame, we looked to expand our horizons beyond the music industry. We partnered with ‘The King of Pop Culture’ and Insta-famous pup Doug the Pug to release his new gear. Recognizing the reach and popularity of Doug, we were capable of taking his merchandise to the next level, extending our business model beyond bands.”
5. Focus on the customer experience
Customers’ perceptions can make or break your business. Deliver quality experiences and products, and they’ll fastly sing your praises on social media; mess it up, and they’ll tell the world even faster. Fast growth depends on making your current and potential customers happy.
“Compared with large companies, small businesses are nimble and often better able to see, anticipate and respond to their customers’ needs,” DeHetre said. “The most successful small businesses exploit this advantage by bringing new and innovative products and services to market more quickly and developing and nurturing long-term customer relationships.”
Dennis Tanjeloff, president and CEO of Astro Gallery of Gems, agreed. He said listening to your customers and giving them what they want is of utmost importance.
“Diversify your offerings so you can best cater to the customers’ changing tastes,” Tanjeloff said. “Remember, you are here to serve the customer — it’s why you are open for business.”
6. Invest in yourself
In the early stages of your business, you’ll likely see a very lean profit margin (or no profit at all), so any money you make should go directly to helping your business grow.

In the early stages of your business, you’ll likely see a very lean profit margin (or no profit at all), so any money you make should go directly to helping your business grow.
“A startup’s capability to invest in itself [helps] accelerate growth,” Lanng said. “In those departed years, it’s critical to make sure that you’re redirecting any revenues back into the company. It’s vital to invest early and heavily in order to grow quickly.”
While it might be tempting to pocket all of your profits, it’s better to invest in your business’s growth so you can reap bigger benefits later. Determine which parts of your business need more consideration. For example, do you need to hire more workers, expand your marketing efforts, or secure additional funding? When you find an important  area that needs development, give that area your financial support.
7. Always think ahead.
While activity is a vital quality for a startup, you can’t fly by the seat of your pants when you’re running a business. Planning your next step — in expectation of all possible scenarios — is the best way to stay grounded and secure as your business develops.
Thinking ahead is broad advice, but it can be as simple as reviewing all in-process contracts, like comparing rates with the best credit card processors and seeing if you can negotiate a better deal.

David Dunbar Buick the founder of the Buick Motor Company passed away on March 5th 1929.
Buick was born at 26 Green Street, Arbroath on September 17th  in 1854, young David emigrated to the USA with his parents at the age of two.
Durant who insured that the company grew successfully.
David Buick died of cancer on on this day 1929, at the times of his death he was working as an inspector at a Detroit trade school.
The cars baring the Scotsman’s name are also sold, mainly in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
At the turn of the millennium, over 35,000,000 motor cars had been built in his name, which will never be lost to history.
A statue to honour Buick was unveiled in Michigan, as seen in the pic, another was planned for Arbroath as far back as 2018, but as yet so far it has not been erected.

Wtnv quick rundown - Live show - The Librarian
Featuring the voices of Andrew W.K. as Intern Andrew, Sympathy Sanders as Tamika Flynn, Meg Bashwiner as Deb, Kate Jones as Michelle Nyugen, Hal Lubin as Steve Carlsberg, Dylan Marron as Carlos the Scientist and Mara Wilson as the Faceless Old Woman.
If wishes were horses, those wishes would all run away, shrieking and bucking, terrified of a great unseen evil. Welcome to Night Vale.
The main plot of this live show is that a Librarian, Randell, has escaped. It wants to try out other professions* but is eventually taken back by other Libarians (along with a courple of citizens) due to this being impossible. Before this it enters 'a' theatre (indicated as being whichever one the show is taking place in via encouragments by Cecil for audience participation), where it briefly terrorises patrons.
The Librarian escaped when it's titanium electrified cage was damaged by the collapse of the papier-mache and balsa wood scaffolding during the construction of a new children's wing, knife pit, upgraded computer room with several empty desks and a loud speaker which repeats the phrase 'technology ruins lives!' and thicker plexiglass.
The construction crew is called Colston Constractors Inc and were told they're constructing a new Pinkberry so they'll actually do the job, since nobody wants to work so close to Librarians. They apparently have antennae.
Intern Andrew** is sent to investigate. He had friends called Johann, Jamie, Xerxes and Hasad. He dies trying to fight a Librarian.
WEATHER: “Serpentine Cycle of Money” by Carrie Elkin and Danny Schmidt.
Intern Andrew**'s mother used to work in the coal mines before they were converted into holding pens for those who vote incorrectly. This involved her doing something with a fencing sword, axe and a pig. She was also looking for both coal and the tiny valuable hearts of rare bats.
Down there she would see and fight hazy, feathered, swarming, weeping, gawping, gasping things with claws and spokes and stingers. When she came home she’d be covered in coal dust and lymph.
**There are bonus tracks of the intern in the library where instead of Intern Andrew it is Intern James Urbaniak, Intern Molly Quinn or Intern Wil Wheaton.
There is also a bonus track of a new segment called 'Louie Blasko's Music Moments'. Louie himself is present, where he avoids answering anything about his insurance fraud, of if he's been appearing is children's mirrors to teach them bluegrass and then takes their souls to the mirror world. He teaches us some bluegrass (which is mostly a lot of screaming, angry lyrics about making people close their eyes and just well, lots of weirdness).
*Liesel Schmidd, who owns the auto body shop near 'Somerset and Gray' hears an eery voice which asks her if she likes what she does and tells her it's lonely and wants to come home with her. This is Randell, the librarian, who wraps a limb around but is scared off by a blowtorch wielded by Liesel's sister, Pica.
*Randell also visits the Green Market board president, Tristan Cortes and delivers his mail.
*He also gets into the Dog Park, where the Hooded Figures flee in all directions (revealing matching black and white Nike shoes) but is repelled by Tamika Flynn and her armed child militia. As they cause Randell to flee, they shout suggestions for new material to him.
Tamika also gives a speech (recorded at the time because there is always several organisations recording everything) about the importance of books and how she and her army will never back down from defending NV.
Librarians are described as being pseudo-reptiles with exoskeletons and childlike hands which enlarge and slither in a serpentine way. They have a rigid caudal spine, many round black eyes and hairy brown teeth.
Deb is promoting American Express Obsidian Cards. It’s accepted worldwide by any merchant that keeps their store dimly lit, and lingers sadly all day on memories of lost loved ones. It gives you full purchase protection, extended warranty on electronics, a deathless hunger that can never be sated by mere carnal appetite, and the quiet loss of one part of your body every month (which one is a surprise). It also gives you points for airlines or it points at the nearest airplane if you put it on a flat surface (she doesn't remember which). It replaces everyones existing card, wallets, things around them and if they touch it and touch somebody else it will kill them.
Cecil has an 'Amex' card which is just a post-it note that says Real Amex card on it with a thumbs up and he's kept it since college despite never finding anywhere which actually takes it.
Cecil also admits he tries not to listen to or remember anything anyone says to him since taking in knowledge can be dangerous.
The SSP are buying people's illegal or unregistered firearms. This was not supposed to be told to anyone.
There is a Thursday night event at Dark Owl Records. Michelle tells us about it, where she and her staff plan to discover fire for themselves (using gasoline and lighters). She says she doesn't really want anyone to know.
She also says she already knows about the librarian and many other things due to a magazine called Füteür. You can find this magazine by going to the heart of the Whispering Forest, something Michelle can do because she's immune to positive feedback (so isn't tempted by the trees compliments) and climbing a tree called Redge to find the kiosk. Michelle likes it because it means she never has to have her parents or anyone over 30 tell her something she doesn't already know. She is wearing an outfit made of spiders.
Route 800 is going to shut down so construction crews can play Bloody Mary.
There's an annual Children's Fair at city hall but nobody can attend until all the feral animals there are under control.
Steve Carlsberg is secretary-elect to the PTA so stands in for Diane Crayton (who has throat spiders) telling us about the funraiser they're having at the rec centre to increase the number of school clubs. It will involve a seated dinner, a silent auction, a live auction, a secret underground auction, two fake diversionary auctions, and a raffle drawing where we hunt, capture, and clean the winner. The intended clubs to be funded are a glee club, a drama club, a chess club, a pyrokinesis club, an blood stone circle prayer society, a speechless debate club, and an armed political insurgency club.
Cecil asks about a science club, even though he doesn't know why science is beneficial, and though Steve is weary because most parents don't believe in science he says he'll see what he can do.
The NV Junior League is opening a time capsule from 1915 which was buried by disgruntled Subway employees.
Carlos has a machine that lets him listen to Cecil whilst in the otherworld. Sometimes he hears broadcasts from before they met and from the future (which he turns off). He doesn't understand why everyone is afraid of librarians, as he heard from his friends who liked to be in libraries that librarians were mostly kind normal people. Carlos himself has 'never had to read a book' so never went to a library in college.
The Greater NV Medical Community is asking for people to donate blood. As well as by needle, they say that citizens can give blood via court injunction, satellite, wolverines or a carefully-staged 'accident'. They also seem to think 'you' are cute and want to know if 'you' are seeing anybody. Cecil tells them 'you' are, to take pressure off of 'you'.
NV has artificial natural disastors, like scissor fog.
The FOW states that she is still the best candidate for mayor. She also whispers a shorter name she goes by to Cecil, but he's not allowed to tell. She also warns him of many dangers that 'we can't see' but this is also done in whispers.
In NV, Stephen Kings' 'The Dark Tower' series is considered a nonfiction travel guide.
Stay tuned next for a shuffling movement outwards, the dimming of lights, and a large hall left empty and silent until the next time it is not. Goodnight to all of you, listeners. And goodnight, Night Vale. Goodnight.
Proverb: To quote the great Herman Melville, “call me.”

other budgeting things I need to work out once I get up the nerve to actually look at my bank account:
change my automatic transfers so more per month is going into both my TFSAs (one is loosely slated for a house down payment or travel, and the other is....retirement??? idk. but I should keep putting money in em so when I do want to do a big expensive life thing I have some funds). One of these doesn't even have auto transfers set up yet bc for some reason the bank didn't add that option online/on the app until recently.
somehow increase the weekly grocery budget bc even though I think my current budget should be more than enough, inflation has been kicking my ass. Plus cooking brings me joy and I want to find a way to keep up that hobby even if it means cutting my spending/fun money budget...
make sure a decent amount is still going into my immediately accessible savings account, which is used for apartment/car repairs, emergencies, little vacations etc. Oh, and the stupid life insurance payment that's coming up in April. Love my grandpa for getting all the grandkids policies when they were babies, I'm sure it'll be useful when I'm old or whatever, but that yearly fee is. OOF.
hope I have some left over bc who knows how much my rent will go up in the spring. lowkey praying for some kind of market crash that means the average rent prices tank in the next month and my landlord can't justify increasing my rent...
