Typography Tuesday

Last month, the Milwaukee Public Library's Arts & Media Department held its first Art Book Club session. Intended as an informal art book appreciation club that meets once a month in the Art, Music, and Recreation room, each session explores a different theme by looking at the wide variety of art materials in the collection. The collection is historical, non-circulating, and vast. I attended and spent an hour and a half mesmerized by the array of luscious materials presented.

There was design, architecture, fashion, and much more. As a type nerd, I was especially drawn to the several late 19th- and early 20th-century type specimen books on the tables. Here, for example, are some pages of chromatic initials by various European and American companies from Schriften Atlas, compiled by Ludwig Petzendorfer and published in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann in 1898.

MPL held its second Art Book Club session on the theme of "Animals" last night, but I missed it because I was conducting an evening instruction session. Dang! But I'll be attending future sessions when I can and I'll keep y'all apprised.

me impatiently waiting for tuesday to share a snippet bc im obsessed with bucktommy rn and after some editing im loving everything i've written in this fic so far and wanna share every word of it asap lmao

here's a bit more, and yes they are talking about the evan thing bc at first it bothered me so much, but it grew on me (with fics and some takes on it i saw and just the more i saw it and thought about it) and now im kinda loving it lol

“If you wanted me out of my shirt, you should’ve just said so.” he murmurs.

“I want you out of your shirt.” Buck says without hesitation, and Tommy releases a breathless, surprised laugh.

“Suddenly so forward.” he shakes his head, capturing Buck’s lips again. Well, Buck has been kind of shy and flustered with Tommy, but that’s not always how he is, not how he used to be.

“Oh, you have no idea.” Buck grins, and then, still a little hesitantly, places his palm over Tommy’s thigh where it rests over Buck’s knee. Tommy looks at him curiously, and Buck’s grin widens as he pulls his leg up and over his lap, getting Tommy to properly straddle him now, his shirt falling over his back again, as he releases a surprised gasp. “Now that’s better.” he adds, getting used to the unfamiliar weight, Tommy being bigger and heavier than Buck’s used to with his previous partners, obviously, but it- it feels good, right, almost comforting, Tommy’s steady and firm presence surrounding him now. Plus, it is kinda hot, too.

“Evan.” Tommy just says breathlessly, and Buck’s smile softens, one of his hands moving to the side of Tommy’s neck, just resting there.

“You know you’re one of the very few people who call me that?” he whispers, the mood shifting a bit from hot and impatient to soft and warm, and pleasant, and Buck really feels so comfortable with Tommy.

“Yeah, I noticed.” Tommy replies, settling more comfortably, wrapping his arms around Buck’s neck loosely, but his hands play with Buck’s hair lightly. He sits far enough on Buck’s lap that their crotches don’t touch, and Buck’s not sure if he’s happy about that. “Does it bother you?” he asks with a hint of worry.

“No, no, of course not.” Buck rushes to say. If it did, he’d say something. No, it doesn’t bother him. The opposite, in fact. “I actually-” he can’t help a small awed smile. “I think I like it.”

“Why do you sound so surprised?” Tommy tilts his head curiously, and he’s so cute, and Buck needs to kiss him. So he does. Because he can. And he can’t stop smiling.

took the start of this week way too chill because “I have plenty of time for the end of the week deadlines” and then today realised that it is in fact the middle of the week and I gotta hurry tf up now

Now that youre done with v3 may I ask about what your final thoughts on each character are? (Briefly, if you dont feel like elaborating too much-- like a senstence each maybe?)

Ok warning for opinions: I'm not head over heels for a lot of the cast

Shuichi- sweet boy I like his emo vibes (both in jest and also how he's actually pretty emotional)

Kaede- sweet girl gone to soon :'( why do this to the girl Protag

Kaito- fun guy I like him I hate his hair. Hypocrite (character trait) (not moral judgement) (affectionate)

Maki- grew on me a lot her expressions are cute. Also hypocrite (same brackets as above)

Himiko- good voice acting and I guess the character development was pretty good! Never grabbed me as a character tho

Keebo: my beloved. I didn't think he'd be so important! Thank you for being helpful and rational sweet robo boy.

Tenko: I've been told the translation made her a lot more aggressive than the original Japanese text but she sooooo annoying about the Degenerate Male thing and it was too much of her dialogue

Angie: most fun design, biggest cutie. I know she was kind of sinister sometimes but I forgive her BC I actually enjoyed the time she was on screen.

Korekiyo: coolest design, actually kind of intriguing character, but then the backstory hit... I dunno I could continue to be interested I guess but it's a little weird now.

Miu: I liked her more at the start but then I feel like she didn't grow at all? It's like she started being a bit different when Kaede was still protagging and then she just didn't stop being The Overtly Loud And Suggestive One.

Gonta: darling. Precious. Probably one of the saddest cases :(

Ryoma: I'm biased because fsr I liked him from the start. Didn't get a chance to develop much. Get him some therapy.

Oh my god there's so many of them aughshdh

Rantaro: pretty and good voice. What a waste of a good design since we didn't get to see him do like anything

Kirumi: I like her potential and I probably would have ended up liking her if she'd lived, but kudos for being one of the few calm and helpful characters.

Tsumugi: props for being incredibly unassuming if I hadn't already known. They really made her just boring enough to be not suspicious, but not too boring to be suspicious again. Annoying voice tho

Kokichi: only surpassed by the monokubs in how much l don't like him.

My house flooded last night. Not because of a leak or blockage or anything, it's just rained so much for so long now that the water has nowhere left to go. All the roads around here have water standing on them, some are flooded completely. The council did some work on the road and pipes a few years ago and since then, it's worse. All the water from the fields around ends up on the road and in my yard.

We're due more rain, and another storm is coming at the end of the week. There's nothing I can do to prepare or make things better. Sandbags won't do anything because it's coming through the ground and I can't do anything about the drainage system.

I'm hoping to buy a second pump - there are two places we need to pump the water out of the yard from, and moving the pump back and forth makes it all take longer because it needs to be plugged in and set up each time. A second pump would make things a lot faster and easier, and hopefully prevent more flooding inside.

Along with that, the gutter is broken right above the front door so when it rains there's an extra little shower there, the little hat thing blew off the chimney in the last storm so rain gets in there now, one of the radiators is leaking, the ceiling's still not fixed from the last radiator leak, and basically I'm reaching the end of my rope here.

If anyone wants to chip in towards the cost of the pump and fixing the damage and *waves hand* all of that, here's my Ko-fi. I've also got word trackers for writing and story development. Or you can just buy me a coffee aka tip/donate - every little helps, I mean that.

Typography Tuesday

New acquisition! A type specimen book from New York type foundry George Bruce's Son & Co., 1869. George Bruce (1781–1866) was a Scottish American printer and type founder. He and his older brother started off as type founders and printers in 1812 but jettisoned their printing business in 1816 to concentrate on founding type. His typefaces became widely popular among printers by the 1830s, and his company remained predominant for a generation. His son David Wolfe Bruce (1824–1895) took over the business after his father's death, and ran it until his retirement in 1890. The firm was eventually acquired, like so many other foundries, by American Type Founders.

i just know the qingjing disciples also had to make songs for each of their lessons

full bet they stayed up all night writing and composing their songs the literal day before the performance day because all of them were swamped with tests and essays the previous week

also fully confident that at least 5 of them have requested for the performance day to be moved a day later at the most, only to be met with a concise "no."
