Inceptiversary 2019 MasterPost
It will soon be July and you know what that means! IT’S INCEPTIVERSARY TIME!!!!!!
In case you don’t know (and that’s fine, we love new blood in this fandom), Inceptiversary is the yearly celebration of the release of the film that keeps us darlings dreaming bigger: Inception. It takes place over five weeks (July 1st to August 5th) and includes fandom focused events, challenges, and content. It’s when we Inceptionites come together to strengthen the community, show appreciation, and welcome in a new generation of dreamers!
ALL SHIPS ARE WELCOME in the Inceptiversary festivities and we encourage you to explore a ship you haven’t before. You never know what you might find!
“But wait, teacup,” you say. “How am I to keep track of all these awesome events? How will I know what’s happening and what’s to come?”
I’m glad you asked, dear dreamer, because we have the super-organized and equally awesome @freighttraininmybrain over at the Inception Social Calendar and the miraculous trio of @flosculatory, @deinvatiwrites, and @dbshawnblog on the @Inceptiversaryblog keeping us from succumbing to Inception FOMO! So hold onto your grip on reality because the unbelievable details of this year’s Inceptiversary are laid out below!
1) Theme Weeks:
Inceptiversary is structured over five glorious weeks, each of which caters to a theme in fandom. Fans are encouraged to post and reblog all manner of content related to each week’s theme. Memes, fics, fanvids, artwork, conspiracy theories; all will find a home! And you may just discover something you didn’t know you needed in your life.
This year’s Theme Weeks are:
Week 1, July 1 - 7 No Stone Unturned - Inception Gen Week
This is a special Theme Week this year as we’ve paired it with a prompt challenge of the same name that will be run by @bayta-darell! The Inception fandom has a ton of love to go around, but what about the non-romantic kind of love? This week, we're focusing on all of the great platonic and familial relationships with a series of daily prompts. These are just meant as a starting point to get you inspired and by all means, disregard these as much as you want! All Inception content that isn't based on romantic or sexual relationships is welcome, and fanwork recommendations are certainly encouraged as well. Have fun, and happy Inceptiversary!
Day 1: Backstory
Day 2: Team Dynamics
Day 3: Character Study
Day 4: Rare/Underappreciated Characters (Philippa, James, Miles, Nash... anyone outside of our main dream team)
Day 5: Non-Canon Interactions
Day 6: World-Building
Day 7: Post-Canon
Week 2, July 8 - 14 It’s The End Of The World As We Know It:
Zombies! Meteors! The Rapture! Girl Scouts! It’s the apocalypse and we want to know all about the survivors!
Week 3, July 15 - 21 Curtain Fic:
Domestication at its best! Bring out all your happily ever afters and spend a week in bliss as your favourite ships ride off on magical rainbow unicorns and make all their dreams come true!
Week 4, July 22 -28 In Between The Lines:
We all have them. Those headcanons about what went on behind the scenes of Inception. What happened to Tadashi? Is Ariadne hiding gills under all those scarves? Just what did the team do with all that time left over in the dream? And for Nolan’s sake, did the damn top fall over or not?
Week 5, July 29 - August 5 Crack/Fluff:
It’s been a long month so kick back and relax with a large dose of everyone’s favourite guilty pleasure: Crackfic! We all need those fics that are purely for entertaining silly and happy ideas. They’re a soft place to land and a great opportunity to get wacky ideas out of your head! Indulge and enjoy the ride!
2. Watch Parties (@corinnetags, @noitsnacktime, @freighttraininmybrain ):
Watch parties are an excellent way to meet other people in fandom and tend to create a ton of inspiration for future wips! All movies are connected to the cast of Inception in one way or another and will be held on either Slack or Discord or both depending on host availability/preference.  The schedule for all viewings can be found on the Inceptiversary Social Calendar.
3. Watch Party Bingo: (@withinmeloveresides1, @zuulee63)
On July 1st, 16th, and 31st, Inception Bingo during the Official (not really) Inception Watch Parties! You can check out the viewing times on the Inception Social Calendar. More info to come!
4. Inception 30 Day Challenge (@flosculatory):
The 30 Day Challenge is such an interesting and entertaining look into the minds of your fellow Inceptionites! Learn how others feel about your favourite Inception moments and enjoy a look back at why we’re all still here, nine years after its release.
5. Trope/Kink Bingo (@teacuphuman09, @dreamhubbies):
One of the most popular aspects of Inceptiversary is the Trope/Kink Bingo, and goodness, does it ever deliver! Scoot on over to @inceptiversarybingo  for info on how to get your hands on your very own bingo card, then indulge your (not so) secret desire to write all the tropes and/or kinks your little fandom heart desires!
6) AELDWS: (@teacuphuman09):
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a stake in this year’s Arthur/Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing event. AELDWS was missed last year, but in 2019 it’s returning to its roots and eliminating one writer every week until a champion is crowned! (I’m coming for you, @deinvatiwrites)
Tumblr media
7)  Inceptionkitties: (@a-forger-and-a-point-man)
The Caption Contest is back! Send in your purrfect puss pics, captioned with a quote from Inception and you could win all the fame and fortune of the Inception cat fandom! Get to it, meow!
8)  Inception Quiz (@thingsbeginningwitha, @betterpausenow, @freighttraininmybrain):
Known by some (me) as one of the most difficult quizzes of all time, the Inception Quiz tests your knowledge, dedication, and attention to detail of all things Inception. Think you can handle it? (You can!) More details to come!
9) Inception Positivity: (@flosculatory)
Do you have a fandom crush? Someone you admire or look up to? Someone you feel needs to know just how important and appreciated they are? Then jump over to @inceptionpositivity to fill out a submission form and send your love across the fandom!
10) Fic Recs: (@teacuphuman09)
Looking for a specific fic or wanting to read along with the Theme Weeks? @inceptionficrx (@teacuphuman09) has what the doctor ordered! We’ll have weekly reading recs as well as special recs for Wednesday Hump Day and Bunk Fic Fridays (@avacynner); little pick-me-ups and some pants-tingling to see you through the weekend!
11) Inception/007 Battle Royale: (@a-forger-and-a-point-man)
The who, what, where, and when has yet to be announced, but get ready for yet another fight to the (canon)death! More details to come!
12) Inception Big Bang: (@dreaminghigher)
Back after a few years off, the Inception Big Bang is a fantastic event that combines titillating fic ideas with gorgeous artwork! Head on over to @inceptionbigbang for more info, and hurry because sign-ups are almost closed!
13)  Fandom Auction for @nolaespoir: (@corinnetags)
Fandom lost an incredible talent and friend, Nolaespoir, and this year’s auction is in her name, with proceeds going to charities dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health. Check out the auction site and bid on some amazing items up for grabs!
14) Here’s a list of other Inceptiversary blogs and tags you should follow to keep up to date on the festivities:
First and foremost there is the Inception Blogs Masterlist, curated by the incomparable @a-forger-and-a-point-man
Are you a member of the InceptionSlack yet? It’s a great online platform that allows us to communicate directly and get to know each other! We have chat rooms for just about everything from career support to writing & art, and everyone is welcome! We have the best custom emojis, let me tell you! This is also where the Watch Parties will be hosted, so if you’d like an invitation, send @teacuphuman09 or @deinvatiwrites an ask!
Looking for something a little more Inception-centric than Slack? Want to be part of everything Inception related? The Inception Discord is the place to be! So head on over and check their platform out and enjoy some sweet, sweet discord!
Wondering about who’s who or the history of our fandom over the past nine years? @flosculatory and @gessorosso have put together two wonderful resources! The Friending Meme is a place to put your deets if you’re wanting to connect with others in the fandom and the Fandom Page (which now houses the Friending Meme!) is an ongoing collection of events and moments in fandom history. If you’d like to contribute something to the Fandom Page, please contact @gessorosso.
You should obviously be following #inception,  #inceptiversary, and your ship tags (tumblr.com/tagged/[search term]), but may we also suggest:

2019 Fandom Year Ahead
After writing out my reflections on 2018 I thought I would share some of my fandom goals and things I have going on in 2019.
I’m going to do a fic related recap/meme of 2018 but I’m waiting for Erised reveals then I’ll get that up too. In the meantime, here’s some of the stuff I have going on in 2019 and I hope you’ll join in some of the fun :D
I’m also upping my participation over on Dreamwidth where you can find me as Writcraft, so if we don’t have mutual access or whatever then do come and say hello and I’ll subscribe back and grant access to my own journal if I recognise your username.
Moderating: Harry Potter
I’m excited about the fests I’m moderating this year and I hope we get plenty of sign ups and people enjoy them. The upcoming fests are below.
Harry Potter Kinkfest (@hpkinkfest): I can’t quite believe Kinkfest has been running for a decade, and I’m super excited to see what people come up with this year. The fest is designed to explore any and all kinks and hopefully be a safe space for creators who fancy working with kinks you see around less frequently, as well as creators who want to write those well-loved kinks and celebrate all the different ways there are to make our favourite characters get their kink on. Prompting is well underway and head over to the fest tumblr to find out how you can leave your prompts if you haven’t already done so.
My Bloody Valentine: An anti-Valentine’s mini-fest exploring the darker side of love, romance, sex, obsession and relationships. This will be a self-prompting, self-posting fest running from 10 - 16 February. More details will go up at @hpdarkarts in mid-Jan but you can start creating at any point if you’re interested. I already know we have a couple of brilliant entries ready to go, and I’m excited to see what people come up with.
Wand In A Knot: The Harry Potter 24 hour smut tag challenge. This is such a fun fest, inspired by similar fests in Teen Wolf, Sherlock and Supernatural fandom. The fest begins with a mod tag, tagging the first participant with a short prompt and then go, go, go, you have 24 hours to produce and post your fanwork, choosing your own character/ship to fill the prompt. You get your fanwork up, then tag the next participant with a short prompt and they then have 24 hours to create their contribution. It’s super fun to be part of, and we hope sign ups go swimmingly. There is a 30 participant cap and the tagging will happen on a dedicated fest Discord. Follow @wand-in-a-knot for details which will go up around March. The fest starts in May.
Harry Potter Horror Fest: The annual HP Horror Fest, an anonymous prompt based fest, will be back this year only this time it will run in September. Keep an eye on @hpdarkarts for details.
Moderating: Radio One RPF/One Direction
Grimmy Appreciation Fest (@grimmyappreciation): For those interested in 1D/Radio One RPF fandom, this annual fest dedicated to fanworks focused on Nick will be running again in 2019. More details will go up in the summer.
Gryles Exchange (@grylesexchange): I’m delighted to be part of a terrific mod team for this year’s Nick/Harry exchange which will open for sign ups at the end of January. Keep an eye on the blog for more details.
Writing
I’ve got a bunch of projects I’m super excited about this year. I’m going to finish off my Festive 500s, probably posting a bunch in a mad rush, then I’m focusing on all the new things. I’m hoping to be a regular participant in the @hpfemslash-minifest when a monthly theme grabs my interest, and I’ll be writing for Daily Deviant on a monthly basis again this year, starting this month. There are a few fests I’ve got my eye on, although I’m trying to limit fest participation. I’ll probably have a little something in the fests listed above as I want to write at least two pieces of dark/horror fic this year, I’m hoping to do the Snarry-a-Thon at Snape Potter, and after that, we’ll see! I’m sure I will do one of the Drarry fests, the question is which one??? It will likely depend on timing and other commitments.
HARRY POTTER
Play Me Like A Love Song - I am working on a novel length Minerva McGonagall/Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank story. They make a fleeting appearance in my Drarry fic, Little Compton Street, and this is their story set within that 'verse. It charts them meeting in the 50s, how they got together and looks at the communities they found on Little Compton Street and their work with those communities during the AIDS pandemic in the 80s.
Novel Length Snarry - I've been really enjoying indulging in writing longer stories and I haven't really written a novel length Snarry. I really want to spend some time on this ship this year in general. Expect much more Snarry from me this year and feel free to block the tag if it’s not your thing.
Losing His Religion Series - I swear the sequel to my Drarry fic Bedroom Hymns isn’t abandoned. It’s on the list of projects to complete this year and I’ll be glad to share the second instalment with you!
Festive 500s - God, I wish I had called these ‘suitable for any time of the year’ 500s :D - nearly finished with them and with 10 remaining chapters to post, I hope the rest will be up by the end of the weekend.
Daily Deviant - As above.
ONE DIRECTION / RADIO ONE RPF
Rebel Girl - I am super excited about this story, my first genderswap fic in this fandom, pairing Nick Grimshaw and Louis Tomlinson. This story will be a queer coming of age story focusing on Manchester's music scene, LGBT communities and self-discovery. On her first visit to Manchester’s Canal Street, Louis becomes captivated by flighty, infuriating DJ Nick who offers Louis the no-strings sex she thought she wanted. As Louis and Nick grow closer, pretending not to care becomes increasingly difficult.
London Rain - My Tomlinshaw hook-up app fic that I still haven't finished. Hoping to get this up at some point this year.
Someday You Will Find Me - Another 2018 WIP I haven't finished, in which non-famous Nick and Louis fight over the last copy of Oasis album What's The Story (Morning Glory) in an L.A. record store, and it leads them on a forty-eight hour music binge at Louis' posh house in the Hollywood Hills. A kind of liminal spaces story, structured around music from Northern England.
Thirteen - The Harry Styles/Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson Doctor Who AU with Nick as the Thirteenth Doctor that I've had in my WIPs for ages. Maybe this will be the year? Who knows.
Gryles Kink Fic - My Gryles muse has fucked off, but I’m hopeful it will return. Maybe? Anyway, it’s on the list.
Little Lion Man Sequel. Edited this in because I forgot to include it. But yes, this is happening. It won’t be a multi-chaptered WIP and definitely won’t be as long as the original, but it wraps up some of the things I set in motion towards he end of LLM. Yay!

In celebration of Delightfullyevil's...
1. Return 2. One year anniversary of it’s creation on Jan 19.
A bit late to be celebrating the latter, but the blog was recreated as a surprise to those who have missed it, including myself. But I have decided to dedicate this coming weekend to spending time on here turning it into a proper RP/Ask blog, not just an ask blog like it has been for the last few days XD
That includes doing: 1. Asks 2. M!As 3. Inbox memes 4. Crack rps 5. Fluff 6. Casual RPS
And much much more. I may add a bit of plotting in there, but not until I figure out how I will manage the RPS of two blogs at once, if I do decide to do a lot of serious RPS on here, I may have to cut down on the RPS on @semperaliena so I don’t overload myself. But we shall see what happens.
Happy late birthday Delightfullyevil, may you live and prosper once again.

An Open Letter to the Man That Broke My Heart
I’ve put a lot of thought into just writing this and leaving it locked away on some obscure blog where I happen to just vent there and leave every other thought I don’t post on social media, there, but I have made the decision to post this, and I am sure some will disagree with me posting it, but that isn’t what is important to me.
I don’t know what to say first. But what I will say first, and what I know ultimately, is that I loved you with everything I had. And the worst part is, I still did, even when I knew that you didn’t love me. You never even said that you did.
I remember the days where we just met, and we were just friends, and you would just randomly send me memes via Facebook and Snapchat, and I would sometimes send one back, or sometimes would just leave you on read. And to be completely honest with you, I wish that I had just continued to leave you on read and never gave you a chance.
When we first began “talking”, I really enjoyed your company. I really felt as if we had a lot in common. We both played Yugioh, we both enjoyed the same music and had similar interest in other medias. I mean, the first message you ever sent me was one asking about which member of $UICIDEBOY$ was my favorite. The Friday night at nats, I came into town late, but you decided to come to my hotel to come and see me and stayed for at least a few hours, just to chat with me and others. You even spent my birthday celebration with me. You went completely out of your way to show that you cared and that you were interested in making me happy.
After that event, we talked more and more, and we both admitted to each other that we liked each other. Even at nats, you told one of my friends that you were willing to see where things went even though you had never done long distance before.
I would say that things were very good at first. I mean, there were times where I felt that you were acting sketchy. You would leave me on read for hours sometimes, or you just would send messages that indicated you hardly cared.
I remember when I would always tell you how I felt about you, sometimes I would even pour my heart out to you about how happy you made me. And you know what you gave me in return? Usually just a heart emoji. That’s it. And when I would question why I never really got anything of the same value back, you would just claim that you weren’t good with words, and promised that you would be better in person.
I remember how I was always the only one ever asking to have phone calls with each other. I always asked. You never did, not even once. And I wondered why. I even asked if it was that you didn’t want to, and you would say that you did want to. Even when you would say you would call me around a certain time when you weren’t busy, you would almost always “forget”, unless I messaged you reminding you. Even then, sometimes when I would message you or even call you myself you would “fall asleep” and never answer me.
I remember that night that you told me that you would never do anything to hurt me. When you told me that you wanted to make me happy. That was the first and only time you had said anything of substantial meaning to me. But the worst part is, you didn’t mean any of it.
Near the end of August, I reconnected with a friend that I had previously had a falling out with, that was friends with you as well. By complete accident, this person found out about us being together. However, he had warned me about you. He told me that he didn’t think you were a good guy, and that you were known for bragging about how easy it was to fuck girls and how you would brag about your lays in a group chat often. On top of that, he had told me that he had never known you to be in a relationship the entire time he had known you. Which was a huge red flag. I brought up everything he had said about you, and you would just tell me that he was just trying to make you look bad and was trying to steal me away from you.
On top of that, friend 1 had also been pressuring you to fess up and admit to him that you and I were together. He would ask you if you were dating anyone, and you know what you would tell him? You would tell him that you were single.
Also, friend 1 and I had a past romantic history together. He had told me that back when that had happened over a year ago, that you would use to make fun of him for being involved with me. You didn’t even know me, yet you would cast judgment on him for having relations with someone you didn’t know, and it is simply because you wanted to fit in, and join in on hating me like everyone else did.
I remember early September when I started seeing that one girl around. At first, I was jealous that you liked her pictures and not mine. And it stood out to me because you didn’t like any other girl’s pictures that you were friends with. It made me upset because I felt that she was getting special attention from you that I wasn’t getting. When I asked about her, you merely told me that she was just a girl that your friend was hooking up with. I believed you at the time, because I had thought that you would never lie to me.
As time passed she kept more and more frequently liking your posts and pictures. Now, to me, the way I see it, if someone of the opposite gender is continuously liking your pictures and posts, it is normally perceived as flirting. The reason I say this is because I have been guilty of this behavior before, and my exes and other men that have had interest in me have all once done the same thing to get my attention. I kept feeling more and more worried about her, and with my past history of being lied to and cheated on before, I couldn’t help but ask about her yet again. You once again reassured me that she was just a friend, and that the two of you only talked to each other was when you were making small talk at your friend’s (who she was supposedly hooking up with) house.
On top of that, I checked her profile several times, and noticed that there were a couple of posts that she had tagged you in. However, they only appeared on her timeline, and not yours. Which is weird to me, because any other time someone would tag you in a post, it always appeared on your timeline. Except these ones. So, the only thing I can think is that you had deliberately hid the posts she tagged you in from your timeline. You were hiding them from me. Why?
I remember when you planned for our trip to Denver, starting in August. We had it planned for mid October. We both seemed like we were both very excited to go on that trip together. I spent about a grand on this trip. However, the money didn’t mean much to me if it meant that I got to spend an entire weekend with you.
Then, a week before the trip was to occur, we had a fight and you broke up with me. I remember as you left me, you said “I’m sorry I can’t give you the love and attention you need…..maybe Friend 1 can…” and honestly it hurt more than anything for you to say that because you were the only one I wanted to be with, and the only one I had any desire for.
During the breakup, I finally decided that I needed to know the entire truth, since the breakup made me begin to question everything about you, to you even being loyal to me. So, I messaged that one girl, and I simply nicely told her that I had been dating you for the last few months, and asked her kindly if anything had been going on between the two of you.
Her response was rather weird. She replied, “had been? are y’all still together?”. As the conversation went on, she just kept catching more of an attitude with me, and then finally told me that you two were just friends, but that you were always there for her. Which is weird, because to me, this implied that you guys talked more often than you had claimed that you two had. And it was so weird to me since you guys were such good friends as she claimed, that she didn’t know who I was or that you were even in a relationship for the matter.
We both had our flights booked and I had a hotel booked for us. I was completely devastated. Then, several days later, you decided to work things out with me and go on the trip. You told me that on the night of the breakup that you had put your flight on standby. Literally the night before my flight, you told me that you had to call the airport and ask to reschedule your flight, which, they wouldn’t let you. While I was boarding my flight and traveling all day, you claimed you were at the airport hoping to get on a flight all day while you were on standby. You just kept telling me that the one you were promised to be able to get on next, kept filling up and you were continuously being told that you would get the next. Yet, once I was at my hotel, I spent all night in my hotel waiting for you, and even bought food for you in hopes you were going to come out that night. Yet, somehow, you were unable to get on any of the flights that day.
So, the next day, you claimed to be waiting all day, again at the airport. And coincidentally enough, you were unable to get on a flight. Again. So I wasted my entire weekend waiting for someone that wasn’t going to come. Someone that just kept conveniently not being able to make it to the next state over. You said you were trying your best, but since you knew you were on standby that Friday, you didn’t even try to look into bus tickets or anything else to try and make it. You didn’t try at all.
I spent my entire weekend alone, by myself, crying in a hotel across the country, waiting for someone that wasn’t coming. The entire breakup and the whole situation with Denver, all completely broke my heart.
The next weekend after that was YCS Dallas. That Friday as I flew in, you told me that you were able to come. I was very happy to hear it, because I thought that it had meant that we could actually spend some time together, and you would try and make up for your absence the previous weekend.
Boy was I wrong. You came in late on Friday, but I had asked if you would come and see me anyways. You told me “oh, it’s really late”, and “we can just spend time together tomorrow”. I was pretty upset, but I waited for the next day. In the morning, I heard nothing from you whatsoever. You didn’t try to reach out to me or anything. So I had to message you, and later that day when I finally saw you and came up to you, I hugged you, but you didn’t return any affection toward me. Even though we hadn’t seen each other in 3 months.
Later that day, I had asked if we could have our first kiss together. We had been together for a while, so I thought that it would only be the appropriate time for us to do that. You gave me a strange look and said, “I really hate PDA, but sure”, so you had us walk roughly two blocks, completely away from any other Yugioh players, before you let me kiss you.
The whole time I tried to spend time with you at the venue, you often had your back turned toward me and paid no attention to me at all. I felt you were acting as if you didn’t even know me or wanted anyone to know that we were together. On top of that, you didn’t even display any kind of affection toward me at all at the venue.
You promised to spend time with me at the end of the day when you were done with day 1. You promised after the last round, you would be on your way to my hotel. So I waited. And waited. And waited. I messaged you again about an hour later asking if you were still coming. It turned out that you decided to go out to eat with your friends first, and didn’t tell me. You told me that you would be there after though. So again, I waited. And when I didn’t hear from you for a while again, you told me you just went to your hotel to drop some stuff off then you would be on the way. Then 10 minutes later, you tell me, “hey, I’m really tired, how about I just come over in the morning when nobody is around?”. I was very upset of course, because you had promised to spend time with me when instead you just kept blowing me off. I felt so unimportant to you. So, you decided to come over that night. For one hour. Then you left when I asked if you could stay the night with me. But you didn’t. And you promised to be over early the next morning. But you weren’t. You instead woke up late, and instead of coming to see me, went to the convention center, and blew me off, again.
I asked if you would spend time with me and go out and do something with me, but it seemed hanging out with your friends was still more important to you. The entire weekend, it seemed as if you had no interest in me or spending time with me at all. And it hurt. It hurt so fucking bad, more than you can even possibly imagine.
After Dallas, you were going under a lot of stress at work, and the more time passed, the more often you would take it out on me and on our relationship. Sure, you will claim that you didn’t, but it was clearly affecting us. You would often make smart remarks toward me and completely disregard any concerns I had, or my feelings nonetheless. You showed no affection toward me, whatsoever. I even asked about coming to visit you the next month, and you told me “I don’t think we should travel for each other right now”, and it stung when you said that. It broke me even more.
I had even asked when we could make our relationship public, and yet again, you said “I don’t know, I don’t even know if I want to do that right now”. And the more of that kind of stuff you said to me, the more it hurt. The more my heart cracked into pieces.
On top of that, one day, I was talking with Friend 1, and he told me that at Dallas, he talked to you early day 1 asking about me. He had asked if you and me were back together. And you know what he said that you told him? He said that you told him no. And once I brought that conversation up that you two had with each other, you instantly got pissed off and said “he’s just lying and twisting my words!” and “I swear he just wants some forbidden love thing with you”.
I remember one day, you were hardly talking to me. Your responses to me became less and less frequent. I had voiced my concern about it, and you told completely disregarded my feelings and said, “Fine, I’ll just set an alarm reminding me to contact you every hour”. Your smart remark made me feel hurt.
More and more time passed, and our old habits began to die. I remember whenever I would send you selfies on Snapchat, you would use to at least reply to me or send one back. But, every time I did lately, you did nothing but leave it on read. You never even commented on it or anything. You would leave my messages unanswered, but you would be posting on Facebook. At the same time, I was noticing every day your Snapchat score would go up by nearly 100 or more a day. So I knew it wasn’t that you were just too busy to reply to me. I really began to wonder who you were Snapchatting so much for it to go up that much. In my mind, I began to wonder if you had something going on with someone else..
I was on the brink of finally giving up. Then, I gave it one last shot and sent you a message, telling you how I felt about the way you had been treating me as of late. And so you decided to take it seriously and promised to make more of an effort to treat me right. So I thought that had meant you cared. Which I was wrong, again.
Another week later, was ARG St. Louis. Around that time, it seemed that things between you and I had gone back to what it was before our initial breakup before Denver. I was very happy and our 4 months had came up. I however, did have questions to ask you.
After asking those questions, you told me that we could finally become public once you were done “going through” what you were going through. You told me that you would make the effort to come and see me. Then, I had asked why that one girl didn’t know that you were in a relationship with me. You answered, “because she didn’t know me well enough to know that kind of thing about me, plus we hardly talk anymore”. Which for the most part, I believed, because she wasn’t liking all of your stuff anymore for a minute. Which is weird to me. On top of that, you claimed she didn’t know you well enough to know about you being in a relationship, but somehow knew you well enough to tag you in memes, and knew about other minor details of your life such as your job..
At the ARG event, I had gotten pretty drunk, and ended up telling people at the event about me and you being together. To my dismay, I found out that you were upset that I told people about us. Even after being together for 4 months, you were somehow upset about people knowing about us being together..for what?
A week later, you had dumped me. You told me, “I’m sorry, you’re such a good girl but I’m going through a lot right now and need to be alone. I hope you understand and won’t hate me. I still like you a lot.” The whole situation left me heart broken and confused. To me, the way you worded things, it seemed as if you were giving me hope to hold on by telling me that you had feelings for me still, and that you just wanted to be alone for the time being.
On top of that, as time passed, when I would message you saying I think you don’t care, you would just say “that isn’t true, but I think that we just need some space for the time being.”.
I remember hearing from a friend of mine telling me that a lot of other people had said that you had cheated on me, and when I brought it up with you, you got super irate and swore you never cheated, screaming it in all caps over and over again. And then, you said you were going to beat the person that told me that’s ass for saying that to me. And you also were telling me I was wrong for believing anything anyone said about you, because you said “they just want to fuck you”.
Then a couple weeks after the breakup, we had a phone call. And I asked if you wanted me to wait for you, and you told me that it would be selfish of you to ask me to wait for you. Yet I pressed again and again so you would actually answer my question. So you finally answer with “if waiting for me makes you happy, it makes me happy”. So, I decided to wait, because I thought that you were worth it. Because I loved you and wanted nothing more than to have a future with you.
However, after that when I would just hit you up on a whim to check in on you, I would tell you I miss you and all you could muster was “I know, but you’ll be ok”, or “I’m sorry you feel this way”. You would only give me the most insincere of responses. About a few more weeks passed. The more I felt you didn’t care, the more it hurt. And I would tell you that, so you eventually you finally began telling me “if it hurts you that much I think you should just move on”. Which hurt even more, because I would ask if you didn’t want a future with me if that was the case, and you refused to respond.
Finally, on Christmas Eve, I messaged you while I was drunk, and you said “I left the island”. I called you a hoe in response, even though I will admit was wrong, and you told me that it was over for good. You then blocked me. After that, I had given up any hope of us ever having a future together again. It was clear to me that you had no intentions of having a future with me, but just would never outright say it, even though that was the answer I was looking for. The whole time, I just wanted to know what you honestly wanted. And for some reason, you could never be honest.
From the way I perceive it given the evidence, I believe you were talking to someone closer to you, and you realized that she is what you wanted. However, you weren’t sure if it was going to work out or not. So, after breaking up with me, you kept things vague, and constantly sent me mixed signals, so that you could keep me around in case things didn’t work out for you. You didn’t want me to move on at the time, I was simply your plan B in case you couldn’t have your first choice. But, it seems as if things had been working out for you, so you knew that you didn’t need to keep me around anymore, so that is when you started telling me to move on.
After the breakup, another friend of ours, friend 2, told me that right when me and you began dating, right after nats, he had asked you if me and you were going to start dating since it seemed that I liked you a lot. And, according to him, you had told him that you had told me that you were not ready for a relationship. Which, you never said anything like that to me, ever. So, you lied to someone, again, about us being together. And the worst part is that unknown to me, you had been disrespecting our relationship from the very beginning.
I can say, above everything, I was naive, I was stupid to hold onto you for as long as I did. I just kept trusting that you had good intentions, I believed that you had felt the same about me and wanted the same future with me as I had wanted with you.
But you did not. There were so many fucking red flags, and I chose to ignore them all because I loved you.
You fed me lies for months, you lied to other people, for months. You would swear to me that you cared about me so fucking much, you would tell other people, “oh, I care about her more than she knows”. If that was even remotely true, how come you never even showed that, especially when it actually mattered!? You gave me the bare minimum, while I gave you everything I had.
You said that you just couldn’t give me the world. But the thing is, that isn’t true. The truth is that you did not want to give all of yourself to me the way I wanted to give myself to you. You didn’t want to try. You didn’t care. The reason you left me was a cover up for the real reason you left, and you continued to lie and lie to me after leaving me. You lied to others in hopes of them believing you so that I could look like the bad person.
All you ever did was lie to people about us. You cared SO MUCH about your Yugioh community/Casino cred that you went out of your way to hide our relationship. Your reputation to a bunch of people that won’t matter in your life 10 years from now, was more important to you than my feelings. Than the respect you had for our relationship. For a future with me. I would even ask you if I was embarrassing to be with, and you would tell me no. Of course, that was a complete and utter lie. I was too embarrassing for you to be seen with.
I loved you, I cared about you more than you could ever possibly fathom. I went above and beyond, just to try and make things work with you. While you didn’t even fucking try, I did so many things to show that I cared about you. I never let a single day pass to leave any room for any doubt that I had loved you.
When you would hardly give me any attention, I still loved you.
When I found out you were talking to someone else behind my back and not being truthful about it, I still loved you.
When you actively hid our relationship from people on the daily, I still loved you.
When you broke up with me despite planning a vacation with me for two months, agreeing to work things out and still not show up, leaving me alone crying across the country waiting for you, I still loved you.
When you completely blew me off and deserted me, and treated me as if I was an embarrassment to be with, I still loved you.
Even when I gave you a present for our 3 month anniversary, and a hand written letter with it, and you had absolutely no response to it, not even a thank you, I still loved you.
When you lied to me time and time again, I still loved you.
Even when I noticed the little things, such as you blatantly ignoring me, the signs that you were cheating on me, your less and less frequent responses and your attitude toward me, I still loved you.
Even though you had not even one time had told me that you loved me, I still loved you.
I loved you so fucking much, and I really don’t understand why I ever fucking did. You will never understand the heartbreak, the pain, and the utter mental anguish you have caused me. It is simply indescribable. I often cry and wonder why I deserved everything you had put me through. My heart has been shattered into a million pieces, and you have no remorse for it whatsoever. You never cared about me.
The worst part is that it does often hit me at night, but it also hits me in the middle of the day, at work. Or when I’m simply just trying to enjoy myself with a video game or I’m out with friends. I’ll randomly think of you, and my chest will ache and I’ll struggle to hold back the tears.
You have told me to go ahead and hate you. So, this medicine I have, is like an ointment. It’s my hatred, and my utter resentment toward you, and I try and slather myself with it daily. I immerse myself in my resentment towards you and believe that if I try hard enough to just hate you forever, I can finally kill the person inside of me that still loves you. And I want her to die, I wish she would die so fucking bad.
I don’t know how else I’m going to heal, but I do know that this will help me a lot. I really feel it is about time that I air out your dirty fucking laundry, and finally release the entire truth. I cannot allow any room for doubt about what has happened between you and me. I know a lot of people will believe that putting this out for everyone to see isn’t right, but I’m sorry, I’ve been silently suffering for far too long, and this is the resolve I need. This is my story and I want everyone to know the truth. I won’t let anyone silence me anymore. No matter who it is.

An Open Letter to the One that Broke My Heart
I remember as you left me, you said “I’m sorry I can’t give you the love and attention you need.....maybe Friend 1 can...” and honestly it hurt more than anything for you to say that because you were the only one I wanted to be with, and the only one I had any desire for.
Stephen Curry is playing a Web.com Tour golf event. Here's why that might make some pros upset.
Stephen Curry’s playing in the Ellie Mae Classic on the Web.com Tour. Is that bad? I don’t know, pick your own place on the chart.
Earlier today, the PGA Tour announced that Stephen Curry will tee it up in the Ella Mae Classic, a second-tier Web.com Tour event just outside the Bay Area in early August. It’s totally fine and normal for professional athletes and celebrities outside golf to take part in professional golf events – the Bob Hope Classic & Pebble Beach events heave been built on such for years. But this is different. Rather than competing in some exhibition pro-am, Steph Curry will actually be in the actual field. With professional golfers. He’s playing to actually playing to win as an actual member of the field, playing on sponsor’s exemption. Steph is a good player & big golf fan — he was a solid-to-good player as a junior and is now known to spend weekend mornings watching the European Tour. On the scale
Sponsors exemptions in pro tournaments are a thing golf people have, well, opinions on even for golf’s legitimate stars. We’re already debating whether Tiger Woods is worthy of entry to certain big events when his exemptions run out. Sure, much of that it golf’s holier-than-thou nature at times. But it’s a whole different type of situation when some dude’s coming to tee it up from some other sport for show. Any beef, whilst still possibly dumb, becomes much more legitimate.
Is it bad that Steph Curry’s playing in a Web.com Tour even? I don’t know! Rather than let me tell you how to feel, choose your own adventure! To help you decide how mad you should be about Steph Curry, not a pro golfer, playing in a pro golf event, here is Whether Steph Curry Playing in a Web.Com Tour Event is Good or Bad, As Explained by various levels of Glowing Brain Meme.
NORMAL BRAIN: This is totally fine and cool. Seems neat!
Steph’s gonna play a Web tour event! Cool!
Listen, golf needs fans and allies outside the traditional realms that they exist. Golf’s demo is aging and turbo-white – and anything that can be done to change that should be welcomed! Steph Curry is an uber-popular NBA MVP, current champion, and perhaps one of the most visible athletes on the planet currently – and he loves golf. He spent his weekend watching the danged Travelers! He’s friends with Jordan Spieth! He’s even admitted to having dreams of playing on the PGA Tour after basketball’s over!
This isn’t some guy who doesn’t understand what the Web Tour is — or what it means for the regular players. Steph is a true golf fan, and was probably good enough to play at college at some level. He gets it. This is good.
People asking why I’m playing. Unexpected invite & Always a dream 2 play golf w/ the pros. @WebDotComTour has so much talent it’s unreal.
— Stephen Curry (@StephenCurry30) June 28, 2017
Steph Curry being involved with second-tier tours is just fine, and this should draw some new eyeballs to the game. It’s cool he’s gonna give this a shot.
BIGGER BRAIN: Steph Curry playing in a Web.com Tour event takes a possible life-changing opportunity away from a struggling mini-tour golfer.
Hold on there, champ! Steph Curry’s a fine golfer – you don’t play at a 0.6 handicap index at your local club without being able to stripe it. But for context, at that rate he’s probably comparable at best to a replacement-level, low-major or lower-division men’s college player. Those guys don’t play professionally. They have office jobs. Or they write golf blogs. No, please, stop don’t look at me like that.
Even if he’s a scratch, there are thousands of players in America more deserving of a possible life-changing Web.com tour exemption than Stephen Curry. Presumably the spot taken by Steph in the Ella Mae Classic field is one that could’ve been populated by some Monday qualifier living out of his car. That’s bad! Sure, sure – sponsors exemptions aren’t zero sum, and the chances of the one player left out of the field because of Steph winning this given week would be slim. But still, this is bad! Any time someone’s appropriating the means of putting food on the table of another to create a sideshow, well, yeah – people are gonna get mad.
Making it through Q-School to even the Web.com Tour is extremely, extremely hard. Take Lee McCoy for example. Thanks to the NCAA’s rules, the former Georgia star had to turn down $300,000 when he only had $350 after finishing in the top five as an amateur at last year’s Valspar Championship. Now, even after proving himself on the sport’s biggest stage, he’s toiling on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada — a step or two below the Web.com Tour’s offerings. He’d be someone that loses out from Steph’s inclusion in the field. His reaction is predictable — and understandable.
Steph Curry, a 2.2 handicap, is getting a sponsor's exemption into a Web event. So many great players could use that chance. Sad
— Lee McCoy (@LeeMcCoyGolf) June 28, 2017
A heavy percentage of Golf Twitter, especially lower-level players, will be miffed about Steph’s inclusion in the field. It’s understandable.
GLOWING BRAIN: Steph Curry’s one-time appearance is worth more to Web.com tour players as a whole than one Monday qualifier’s spot.
Perhaps let’s be a little callous and blunt: Steph Curry’s possible hackshow is worth more than a shot at a Lee McCoy win to Web.com Tour players as a whole, probably.
Consider most of lower tour’s events generally toil in almost complete anonymity, occasionally one peeking the head out into consciousness of golf nerds only when something really interesting happens. Even we don’t pay much attention. Perhaps we should, but that’s another topic for another time.
The fact that I’m writing about a Web.com Tour event on a random Wednesday in June is a deviation from normal. Standard media fare for the PGA Tour’s developmental events are the occasional late weekend window on the Golf Channel on tape delay. They’re hyper-regional events (Evansville! Wichita! Springfield! Knoxville!) and come with relatively low exposure. What does that mean for sponsors? Little return on investment outside the immediate market where the tournament exists.
But today, more people have googled ELLIE MAE CLASSIC probably than the last decade combined. This isn’t perfect logic, but increased exposure here & happier sponsors should lead to more tournaments, bigger purses, et cetera. Some economist will probably come up with some half-baked calculation on what Steph Curry playing in this one event is worth for the Web.com Tour. That added interest coming in the form of dollars, in the long run, a net gain for most players.
Don’t ask me exactly how, but it will. I think. Something something opportunity cost, or whatever.
COSMIC BRAIN: THE NBA IS PAYING THE PGA TOUR MILLIONS TO LET STEPH CURRY INTO THIS EVENT TO HELP THE LEAGUE GENERATE OFFSEASON HEADLINES AND MITIGATE THE GROWING TV RATINGS THREAT FROM MINOR LEAGUE GOLF.
I’VE SEEN THE DATA. THE APPROXIMATE 3,000 VIEWERS THAT TOOK IN THE REX HOSPITAL OPEN TOOK A CHUNK OUT OF THE NBA FINALS’ NUMBERS. BIG BASKETBALL WON’T TELL YOU’RE THEY’RE OUT TO STICK IT TO GOLF AND ENSURE THAT CAPTIVATING STARS LIKE BRYSON DECHAMBEAU DON’T USURP THE BRAND POWER OF LEBRON JAMES.

EOFire’s May 2017 Income Report
May 2017 Income At-A-Glance
Gross Income for May: $196,304
Total Expenses for May: $81,185
Total Net Profit for May: $115,119
Difference b/t May & April: -$15,126
Why We Publish An Income Report
This monthly income report is created for you, Fire Nation!
By documenting the struggles we encounter and the successes we celebrate as entrepreneurs every single month, we’re able to provide you with support – and a single resource – where we share what’s working, what’s not, and what’s possible.
There’s a lot of hard work that goes into learning and growing as an entrepreneur, especially when you’re just starting out. The most important part of the equation is that you’re able to pass on what you learn to others through teaching, which is what we aim to do here at EOFire.
Let’s IGNITE!
CPA On Fire’s Monthly Tax Tip
What’s up Fire Nation, my name is Josh Bauerle. I’m a CPA and the Founder of CPA On Fire, where we specialize in working with entrepreneurs to minimize their tax liability while keeping them in line with the ever-changing tax laws.
I’ve been working with EOFire for years now, and John and Kate have included me in these monthly income reports with unlimited access to all their accounts so I can verify that what they report here is complete and accurate.
And because they believe in delivering an insane amount of value to you, my job doesn’t stop at the verification level; I’ll also be providing tax and accounting tips to you along the way!
Josh’s May Tax Tip: Charitable Donations
Charitable donations are an item I get a ton of questions on, and it’s top of mind for me right now, as this past weekend I was in Texas representing a client in an audit that mainly centered around a large amount of charitable donations claimed on their 2015 tax return.
Luckily, the client had done everything by the book, and we came out of the audit without a scratch.
So this month, I’m going to tell you how you can do the same.
First, let’s talk about what a charitable donation is…
To qualify as a tax deductible donation, the money and/or property must have been donated to an IRS-approved nonprofit organization. That would include most churches, schools and places like Goodwill and Salvation Army.
What it does not include is donations to friends in need, donations at fundraisers that go directly to individuals, and even most of the Go Fund Me campaigns for people in need. If it’s not an IRS-approved nonprofit, it’s off the table for a tax deduction.
Next, let’s talk about what records you need to keep to protect yourself.
In the event you are like my client and the IRS comes calling, they classify donations in two categories: cash and non-cash.
Here’s a run down on both.
Cash Donations
This is the easiest one to show proof of.
First, make sure you record exact dates, amounts and who they went to for each donation. If you can make the donation via check, even better.
Second, make sure the organization you donate to issues you a tax receipt. Do these things and you’re fire-proof against the IRS.
Non-Cash Donations
This is where things can get tricky; non-cash donations consist of any type of property donated to a nonprofit.
For most people, it will be clothing, furniture, toys and other household items given to places like Goodwill and Salvation Army.
If your total non-cash donations are under $500, there’s not much you need to do. Simply ask the organization to give you a receipt and you’re clear.
But if it’s more than $500, the level of proof you’ll need to provide is higher.
First, you’ll want to record exactly what you donated, the estimated date you purchased it, the estimated price you paid for it and the current value of it.
So if you donate a couch to Goodwill, you’ll record you bought it on April 3, 2012 for $2,000 and the current value is $600.
Second, you’ll want to be even more sure the organization gives you a receipt with the donation value on it. This will be huge.
Finally, if your non-cash donations are unusually high that year – say over $10,000 – I would even go so far as taking a picture of each item you donate. Example: for your couch, take a quick pic of it and store with your records.
And one more note here: if you have a non-cash item you donated worth more than $5,000 that you’ve owned for more than one year, the IRS requires you get a third party appraisal to determine the exact value. This typically comes into play for people who donate vehicles.
Charitable donations are an awesome way to lower your tax liability and help those less fortunate – a true win/win.
But it’s also an area that is frequently abused on tax returns, and the IRS watches carefully. Follow the rules above and you’ll be in the clear in the unlikely event they do decide to take a closer look.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you’d like to discuss what would be best for YOUR business. I LOVE chatting with Fire Nation!

David’s May Legal Tip: Copyright & Trademark
What Can I Do When Someone Takes My Logo or Image?
This question came from EOFire listener Lori Eisenstadt: What can you do when someone takes your logo or image and uses it online?
First let’s separate logos and images.
Images
If you create an image, you own the copyright. This doesn’t apply to online memes where you just add some words – I’m talking about an image you created yourself or that an employee created for your company.
If you find that someone has taken your image and used it online, there are a few things you can do.
1. Of course, you can contact the person who’s using your content and nicely ask them to take it down.
They may or may not comply. If not, you can hire a lawyer and sue them, but that’s a bit of an extreme – and very costly – step.
2. Fortunately, there’s a simpler option: if the website, app, or service is located in the U.S. or does business in the U.S., they’re required to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”).
The DMCA has what’s called a “safe harbor” provision for online service providers.
Websites that host user-created content – for example, every social media site – can’t be sued when infringing material appears on the site, as long as they comply with “takedown notices.”
These are notices provided by copyright holders that a piece of infringing content has appeared on the site.
If you go to any website or app that has user-generated content and search around a bit, you’ll find a section called “Copyright” or “DMCA” or “legal” – something like that.
They will have either a form you can fill out or an email address to which you can send the notice. In most cases, the content will be taken down quickly at that point.
Often the site will then initiate a process to ensure that the notice was valid.
Be sure to keep good records of images and other content that you create, so if you ever have to prove that you actually created it, you’ll be able to show that you’re the rightful owner.
Use caution, because some people abuse the DMCA takedown process – see this blog post for some examples.
Logos
The same info that applies to images also applies to logos (since a logo is a type of image), but logos are also trademarks.
A trademark is anything that identifies your company as the source of goods or services.
If someone is using your logo without permission – and they’re using it to market competing goods or services – they may be liable for trademark infringement and unfair competition. This is the type of situation where you’re definitely going to want to bring a trademark lawyer in to advise you.
Trademark law is complex, and there may be valid reasons for someone else to use your logo – for example, if they’re doing a “taste test” to see if consumers prefer your goods or theirs, or if they’re reporting factual information about your product or service.
If you’re not ready to hire a lawyer, and your trademark is being used online in a manner that you think is violating your rights, you may be able to take advantage of a takedown procedure similar to the one described above in the “Images” section.
Again, search the website or app for instructions on how to do so.
Wrapping It Up
It’s important to make sure that your valuable intellectual property is not being used against your wishes. Be sure to search for your brand name regularly on Google and your preferred social media networks. And, of course, always contact a legal professional if you run into a potentially serious issue.
Thanks, Lori, for submitting this question!

What Went Down In May
The Mastery Journal 1-day
Following suit with The Freedom Journal Kickstarter campaign, The Mastery Journal Kickstarter campaign offered a pretty special pledge level: a full day with JLD in Puerto Rico.
The investment was not insignificant: $10,000, not including travel.
Because we know pricing is a tough thing to wrap your head around, we want to breakdown how we came up with this number, and why it’s worth every penny.
How’d we come up with 10k?
Charging what you’re worth is a known struggle for most entrepreneurs, especially when you’re first starting out.
Has John always charged $10k for his time?
Not even close. There was a definite progression up to this number, which developed in line with the following factors:
John’s desire to do one-on-one coaching;
Other revenue streams; and
Our bigger vision.
When you’re first starting out, you likely don’t have multiple income streams. While this should be your goal, you have to build up to it one step at a time.
So when coaching was the only income stream we had, and EOFire and JLD were still proving themselves as a great brand and a credible leader, the investment matched that.
As the brand and JLD became more widely known and trusted, so did our diversification. With other income streams coming into play like Fire Nation Elite and Podcasters’ Paradise, we were able to start weighing our time investments in different areas.
The scales started to tip, and one-on-one coaching was no longer the only way we were generating revenue.
Because of this, John was able to increase the investment for one-on-one time with him.
And when we talk about the bigger vision, this is for the business as a whole. If John were to spend all of his time doing one-on-one coaching, we never would have been able to do things like create Podcasters’ Paradise, or launch The Freedom and Mastery Journals.
If your goal is to grow a coaching business, then that’s one thing; however, if your goal is to create products and other types of services, then there has to be a point where you start doing less coaching and more implementation.
How do we know it’s worth it?
Investing $10k is a big deal, and with it comes pressure and expectations. But as we’ve grown EOFire and JLD has proven his expertise and knowledge time and time again, we have proof that the one-on-one investment is worth it.
Plus, John now has the confidence of nearly 1,700 conversations with today’s most inspiring entrepreneurs, and real relationships with master minds like David Siteman Garland, Pat Flynn, Amy Porterfield, Russell Brunson, and Tim Ferriss – just to name a few.
YOU believing that you’re worth every penny and that you will deliver on the expectations you’ve set is key to not only knowing that you’ve priced your product or service correctly, but also knowing that whoever makes that investment will also walk away knowing it was worth every penny.
Saul, welcome to Puerto Rico!
Now that we’ve given some background, let’s have a peek at John’s first 10k Day for 2017!
From JLD:
In 2016, I hosted two $10k days, and in 2017 I’ll be doing the same :-)
The first person to rock the $10k day this year was Saul Marquez.
It started out with Saul and I jumping on a 30-minute strategy call the week before he came down to Puerto Rico so I could get a solid sense of where he was at with his business, where he wanted to go, and what he wanted most out of his ‘Day with JLD‘.
After our chat, I was FIRED up because I knew Saul was in the perfect place in his life and business to spend a day under The JLD Microscope.
Saul rolled into Puerto Rico Friday evening and I took him out on the town to meet a few friends and have a fun first night. We limited ourselves to one drink each, as we wanted to be 100% for Saturday’s 12-hour strategy session.
Early Saturday morning, we both awoke bright eyed and bushy tailed, prepared to IGNITE the day.
Without going into too much detail of what Saul and I accomplished, I’ll share that by the end of the first hour I had identified a MAJOR hole in Saul’s business model:
He had no FUNNEL.
In my words, a FUNNEL is the journey you take your Avatar on from the moment they are introduced to your brand to the moment you make a high-level offer.
There needs to be a LOT of value and know/like/trust at each level in your funnel, which in my opinion needs to be a minimum of six levels. I call this The JLD Method.
We built Saul’s ENTIRE funnel, and now Saul has EXACTLY what he needs to pour IGNITER fluid on the top of his funnel, and watch revenue drip (and eventually pour) out the bottom.
Saul (like my other 1 day peeps) has become a friend, and I know our paths will cross many times and that I will take pride in the success that awaits him.
And thanks to Saul, I now drink Matcha Tea!
Puerto Palooza
Saul’s 1-day in PR wasn’t the only deep-dive we did during the month of May…
Right before we launched The Mastery Journal on Kickstarter we had an idea: what if one of the pledge levels for the campaign included a 3-day mastermind here in Puerto Rico?
We’ve certainly gotten the request for an in-person mastermind or an event more than a few times from Fire Nation, so we figured this would be the perfect opportunity to give it a go.
Not knowing what to expect, we added a $6,500 pledge level to our campaign, which included a 3-day mastermind here in Puerto Rico, a signed Mastery Journal, and a spot on EOFire.
Five weeks later we had five attendees locked in and the planning was in full swing.
Even though we’d never hosted an intimate mastermind like this before we knew our experience with participating in masterminds and leading what we like to call a “hot seat” would play a huge role.
With a lot of logistical planning around travel and accommodations and a few strategy sessions between the two of us, we came up with a solid plan for the weekend.
We decided to host the mastermind at our home here in Palmas Del Mar; we knew this would add a personal and intimate touch that we’d never be able to create at a hotel or event center.
The first two days (Friday and Saturday) were the business-focused days.
Throughout these two days we crushed all five hot seats, which ran two hours each; we made sure all questions were answered with a shorter, wrap up hot seat; and we even had time to spare for some roundtable discussions.
All-in-all, the business-focused days were a perfect 10!
Then, the third day was reserved as our “Palooza Day”: a day to kick back and enjoy Puerto Rico, which we took full advantage of aboard a 40 person catamaran!
Island hopping, snorkeling and relaxing were all on the agenda, and we finished the day back at our home in Palmas with a BBQ pool party.

While we don’t have Puerto Palooza II planned just yet, there’s a good chance it’ll be coming up soon, so stay tuned!

Biggest Lesson Learned
Engaging with your audience
May was the start of Season 6 on my podcast Kate’s Take, and throughout this season I focused on a single topic: project management.
I learned a lot through creating the posts and episodes for this season, especially when it came to hearing straight from my listeners about the specific struggles they’re currently facing in their business.
Which got me thinking…
I wonder if others are leveraging tools like Google Forms and SpeakPipe to engage with their audience?
These are probably two of the simplest tools when it comes to collecting information, which is why I love them so much.  Plus, this engagement one-on-one with your audience is GOLD when it comes to understanding their biggest pain points and coming up with new ideas for what you can create for them that will be of value (i.e. what they’ll actually pay for!)
So I thought I’d go through a specific example of exactly how I’ve used these tools to gain feedback from my listeners.
Step 1: Set up the page
Once I have my goal in mind (in this case, to collect input for my next season on the podcast directly from my listeners) I’m going to set up the page I’ll be directing listeners to.
For this, I simply login to our site and add a new page.
Once I give the page a title and write a line or two about the purpose of the page, I’m ready to move on to step 2.
Step 2: Create the Google Form & SpeakPipe box
Because I’ll be asking my listeners to visit the page I created and either fill out a Google Form or leave me a SpeakPipe message, my next step is to create those two things.
The Google Form will simply ask which topic they’d like to hear about most (with an option for ‘other’ so they can write anything in that space), plus some other general info about how long they’ve been listening, how they found out about the podcast, etc.
You can check out my Google Form for Season 7 here.
Then, creating my SpeakPipe message box is just a matter of logging in to create the widget, and then pasting the code on the page like I’ve done here: EOFire.com/season7
Step 3: Create the call to action
Now that I have my page set up and my form and message box ready for input, I need to figure out what I’m going to say to actually get people to the page.
My call to action is typically in the intro and outro of at least 3 – 4 episodes: 1 of those episodes being the final episode of the previous season, and then 2-3 of them in the episodes I publish in between seasons.
Step 4: Encourage engagement
Don’t think that just asking for input one time is enough; you have to really encourage engagement, especially if your call to action is reaching people via a podcast.
If you think about it, podcast listeners are typically doing some other type of activity when they’re listening to your podcast, so the chances of them remembering something you only say 1 time is very unlikely.
There you have it. Now that you know how simple it is to request engagement and feedback from your audience, it’s time to put it to action!
Bonus step: if you want to take your engagement to a whole new level, also add a scheduler link on the page where people can sign up for a one-on-one chat with you via Skype or Zoom. Any time you can spend with your ideal audience one-on-one will equal massive results, because when you listen to the questions, struggles and pain points revealed, each one is a potential product, service or resource you can offer your audience.
Alright Fire Nation, that’s a wrap!
Until next month, keep your FIRE burning!
~ Kate & John

John’s desire to do one-on-one coaching;
