So I am caught up with druck now. This is so interesting because this topic of privilege and how its being portrayed is actually how i thought wtfock was gonna write kato but in a moyo season the ridiculously obnoxious activism white girl who makes everything an issue and Moyo being very unfiltered would end up losing his shit on her. Here it seems like they have given Ava a break (thank god) and Finn and society will “punish” Mailin for being so high and mighty about her beliefs. My issue with these storylines is that a poc always has to be the educator and like Ava says its not her role to tell mailin what she is doing wrong. This has happened so many times in Skams I may have been somewhat interested in this portrayal 15 skam seasons ago but it feels very contrived and pandering to the majority now. I have a feeling by the end of this season I will have the same feelings I had for Moyo for Finn. Meaning they deserve better why do they need to be the knight and shinning armor that educates their ignorant love interest?Oh and let me guess Finn doesn’t come from money right? and Mailin we know is wealthy. Also this is more of skam universe thing but given we just saw the Maya activism storyline I feel like we just got taught this lesson. I get not everyone is a universe watcher but we literally just wrapped a similar storyline up in Maya and her troubling activism. Bilal having to burn clothes for their consumerism protest when he literally feels bad because he has barely any himself. IDK I feel like this season is like a mash up of many seasons I have seen already and many lessons the skam universe has been harping on about as of recently but always writing it rather poorly. Its like do I want to watch kato’s season thats better written but not as good as acted as a maya season!?!?! Idk do I? Not really, but I stick around because I love the cash queens and finn.Similar to why I watched Maya’s season for Ayumi acting and lamifex (the narrative was ok) and Kato’s season for Moyo’s plot and background Yasmina and Sobbe. Like am not actually watching for the mains plot but for everyone else. Is that considered a good skam season? I def want to be wrong about my Mailin season predictions but I just dont think I am.
