In 1935, while in Tibet, the time traveling alien known as the Doctor (Doctor 2) had his first encounter with the robot Yetis and the Great Intelligence. ("The Abominable Snowmen", Doctor Who vlm 1, TV)

I'm too tired to take pictures/scan text but I'm reaching the ending of Rebellion on Treasure Island, and:
1) there's Jenny (almost) parroting the Master;
2) Vastra (Spoiler!) suggests using the Master's TCE, that the Doctor keeps next to a bag of Jelly Babies from 1977.
My heart.
~
There's River Song, the Paternoster Gang, Clara Oswald (well, she's mentally in a Cloud and physically in a coin), Eleven doing Time Lord Stuff™, Rebels and pirates. Casting 10/10.

The Great Intelligence is a really nebulous idea that I'm glad plays a fun return with Eleven (and the Web of Fear here in a few serials). With that being said, ultimately I do feel like this serial dragged out a bit at times and could have worked across 4 episodes instead of 6. The Yetis were fun additions too.

Retcon idea: What if the place Clara ends up in "Name of the Doctor", said to be the Doctor's timestream, is actually The Edge (from "Power of the Doctor") but it's all dark and spookier and collapsing in on itself due to the timeline being messed with thanks to the Great Intelligence? The 'Doctors' we see running past Clara in the shrouded gloomscape are actually ghosts/guardians of the Edge desperately trying to flee.
Ohhh interesting, interesting! That's actually a pretty fun idea and adds quite a bit to the physicalization of the Doctor's timeline.
The Great Intelligence is basically jumping into the Doctor's essence to cause havoc and so all the Guardians are trying to do what they can, but of course, they're nothing but memories so they can't do much. It would also explain seeing the War Doctor as, regardless of how the Doctor and myself feel about his existence, he is an incarnation and would therefore be among the ghosts/Guardians of the Edge!
Fun retcon! Thanks for sharing!!

If anyone didn’t know any better watching “The Abominable Snowmen”, it would almost seem like the villain in this episode was the Master instead of the Great Intelligence. You got:
Hypnotism
Calling themselves the Master or having others call them ‘the Master.’
Being obsessed with getting the Doctor
Creating robotic minions that can disguise themselves
I mean, I’m almost thinking either the Master is influenced a bit from GI, or another of his past lives. 😂😂

The Abominable Snowmen #DoctorWho Animation to be Released Next Month on DVD, Blu-ray, and Steelbook
The animated version of largely-missing story, The Abominable Snowmen, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray early next month. The six-part serial’s release date has been confirmed by retailers like Amazon, stating it’ll be come out on 5th September 2022. In the UK, at least. This could very well be the last animated missing story too, after the plug was seemingly pulled; indeed, this Second…

Listening to the podcast with Tumblr's CEO about how Tumblr is running on debt because he believes it's worth keeping up because of how unique and good it is as a blogging platform and honestly it warms the heart
And how Tumblr may have been purchased for 3 million but at one point cost 60 million a year to run and they decided it was worth slowly fixing and honestly it warms the heart
And thinking about how Musk bought Twitter for way above its valuation when in fact he was also getting all of its debts and liabilities since Twitter was, like Tumblr, also running on debt, so he actually owes way more than 44 billion dollars and that's why he's no longer the richest man on earth and that's why he's floundering and losing his mind, and honestly it warms the heart
And about how Tumblr are happily poaching talent from Twitter and investors are looking at Tumblr as a worthwhile investment and the debt is going down in part because of Twitter's fuckup and honestly it warms the heart

Doctor Who: The Bells of Saint John
I rewatched this story, which starts the 2013 season, on 13 August 2023.
We begin with a pre-credit sequence about the connected world. The wirelessly connected world. About the dangers of trojan horse infiltration… that literally kills people. For a while. It’s about transhumanism. Unsurprisingly, there’s mention of all sorts of social media present at the time… including Twitter.
Ooh, new theme and opening sequence. Well, it is the start of the fiftieth anniversary season. Ten years ago now. Way-hay.
But, the Doctor is in Cumbria, 1207. He is contemplating the mysterious Clara Oswin Oswald. A bunch of monks tell him that the ‘bells of St John are ringing.’ It’s the telephone in the TARDIS, and it’s Clara asking where the internet is. The password is a riff off what the previous two Oswalds told him. He’s drawn to find her. Clara is looking after kids in a contemporary house. One of the kids is reading a book by Amelia Williams, aka Amy Pond. Neat bit of continuity.
It’s a creepy story with laughs. Shows off London nicely, too.

OMG next serial NOT ONLY marks the return of Great Intelligence but we also get introduced to THE Lethbridge-Stewart. How fun! You can feel us entering this era where they're ready to start really building out the Doctor's background, story, and entire universe a bit more.
