I never thought I'd see Alphen get that mad on-screen. Hoo boy. His anger burns hot enough it scares me.

I wanna know more about "For Shionne" 👀

So this was actually one of the first fics I tried my hand at for Shionne writing about the ending of Arise. I think I had plans to throw it or something similar into the end of "Promise" or for the series it's under, but it's literally been sitting in my WIP's since...September 27, 2021. Whoops. I've looked at it a couple times because I'd like to roll it out, but it needs some TLC.

Not my best, but this was what I had written out before edits or anything else. I hope you enjoy!

"Shionne returned Rinwell’s cautious outreached hand with her own. The sheer joy Shionne felt was reflected back at her and she only had a moment to register it before Rinwell had reached over to give her the biggest hug of her life. Shionne staggered from the weight of it and could hear the tell tale hitch in Rinwell’s breath that she was trying to not cry.

Shionne knew that sound well but for once she let herself cry. 

The two of them fell to the ground and were soon joined by Law wrapping both of them in a hug. When he dropped his head to her shoulder, Shionne rested her head on his.

There were so many words she wanted to say that were choked behind tears, but somehow as she held tight to them she knew they understood."

You know, it's kind of weird how Gendered Renan society is actually, like, their entire society is based on lineage and astral arts proficiency, yet if we listen to Almeidrea's supporter on Lenegis there is a distinct glass ceiling for women to smash if they want to become war criminals back in the colonies, and there are ZERO female armored soldiers.

It's weird, you'd expect the hypertech armors and the artes to have leveled the playing field by then, especially since Berseria does have its generic "bad guys mooks" be both sexes and wear genderless clothing, but instead Lenegis is just... Not even a patriarchy just subtly slanted toward male sovereigns. For no reason. Almeidrea kills her father and brother to get the Wind Lord role and that's seen as revolutionary and unheard of, Dohalim kills the other guy wanting the Earth Lord Spot and the one person who hates him/remarks on it is the dead guy's fiance, his supporters are as lively as ever.

Which is again weird since the gender of the sovereign is specifically denoted in game to not be a factor.

Like, you'd expect them to be more Matriarchal in fact, between the armors leveling the playing field and the fact women would be the ones controlling the lineage, if not outright egalitarian between genders, but then again I understand that maybe the Devs didn't want to make the oppressing slaver empire robbing Dahna of its natural resources Girlboss Amazon Armoured Warriors, especially after having the rebellion leader in the one realm with a female lord be a Misogynist making crass comments about women.

I appreciate Tales of Arise having Law and Alphen bringing up Zephyr as much as they do. The game doesn’t take place over that long over a long period of time, so the entire game they are still grieving. Also, since he basically helped shaped their world views on freedom and this is a game where you go around freeing people… makes sense when he gets referenced. At first I was kind of rolled my eyes at having Zephyr’s kid as one of the party members, but actually it was a great idea because now you have two members with a strong connection to Zephyr. It feels natural when they reminisce together. He’s brought up in both big and small moments (I do so love the Tales Skit system). It was so obvious he was going to die from the beginning but I’m glad it kept being impactful throughout instead of just at one climatic moment as a lot of the kill the mentor tropes do.

So I beat Tales of Arise.

I’m really glad I played it.

The English VAs absolutely killed it.
