baby teddy not really talking but she’s so animated in what she wants , so the little facial expressions go a long way
she'll be so expressive long before she'll start actually talking.
it starts with an exaggerated jut of her lip when she's upset. she'll stick her little bottom lip out so far when she drops her paci or carmen moves her from grabbing his chain.
"oh, look at that face. so dramatic." carmen cooed. "you're gonna be like your mom, hm? drama just like her?"
"says you." you scoff, rolling your eyes. "the most dramatic person to ever live." carmen scoffs back, shaking his head at you, grinning.
then it turns into the face scrunch. she starts realizing she can make faces, figuring out how to mimic them. she'd pucker her lip and push them up to her nose, a full face scrunch that looked adorably evil. she liked when people would cackle in surprise when they saw it.
she'd be so expressive and so fucking cute. my womb is fucking screaming and yearning.

I'm doing a rewatch of the bear and god he is just so irresistable. My childhood crush on lip gallagher has been revived and given new purpose! I can't promise to write for carmy consistently but if y'all have requests I wouldn't be opposed to them :)
cw: blood
Carmy Berzatto x fem!reader ♡ 972 words
There are tons of benefits to being in the same kitchen as a classically trained chef. For one, Carmy always gives you the easy tasks. Stirring pasta, scrambling eggs, chopping scallions. Today, you’re cutting up melon while he whips up some kind of citrus sauce, because your boyfriend is incapable of making just a fruit salad. No, it has to have some kind of fancy factor, or else they’ll take away his star, you guess. (Not that you’re complaining. That sauce is gonna be awesome.)
One thing that doesn’t tend to feel like a benefit is that any time you mess something up, you feel about three times more stupid than you would if you were by yourself.
How were you supposed to guess that instead of cutting down through the melon when you try to slice it in half, the tip of the giant knife you’re using would come jutting out of the melon and embed itself in your palm.
You gasp and pull away on instinct, and for a second, can only stare at the strangeness of it. You can see straight through to the inside of your hand, which is as unsettling as it is sickening, freezing you in morbid fascination until blood wells to the surface and your brain catches up to what’s happened.
“What?” Carmy asks flatly, having heard your gasp and well used to your kitchen mishaps.
You tear a paper towel off the roll, jamming it over the wound and fisting your hand around it. “I cut myself,” you say, somewhat shakily.
“How bad?”
You look down at the knife, miraculously clean-looking despite the blood now flowing from your hand. The paper towel is already starting to feel damp with it.
You use your good hand to take the knife out of the melon, setting it in the sink so you don’t forget to wash it. “I don’t—” You’ve never cut yourself this deep before. You don’t know how bad is bad. “It seems not great.”
You startle when a tattooed hand wraps around your elbow.
“Chill,” Carmy says, turning you around to face him. He takes your wrist. “Open your hand.”
“I can’t.” Panic makes your throat hot and tight. “It’s bleeding a lot.”
“Let me see,” he says, trying to pry your fingers away from your curled-up hand.
“I think it’s fine.” There are tears in your voice, and sometimes you wish Carmy was the type of person whose emotions naturally adjusted to balance out those around him, but your alarm only works him up.
“Let me see,” he insists sharply, and you don’t have the will to resist, letting him unfold your fingers. You flinch as he removes the paper towel, blood running quickly into the crevices of your palm.
“Shit,” Carmy hisses, tugging it over the sink. Your hand looks like a delta of crimson streams. He picks the paper towel up again, dabbing roughly so he can see the cut better.
“Do you think it needs stitches?” you worry aloud, then immediately want to hit yourself. Even if he says it does, you think you’ll push back, too fearful of hospitals and needles and odd, stinging pains to consent to getting them.
Your boyfriend is quiet, bending close to your hand as he lifts the paper towel again, and your voice goes a bit shrill. “Carm?”
“No,” he says, staunching the wound again.
Relief washes over you like a warm tide. Still, you ask, “How do you know?”
Carmy presses your fingers closed like they had been, loosing a breath as he gives your fist a light squeeze. “I’ve seen enough cuts that do need stitches to know the difference. What the hell did you do?”
You try to breathe out like he had, but your chest still feels too tight. You can feel your heart beating in your hand. “I don’t know,” you admit. “The knife slipped and went through the skin, or, like, the peel.”
His brows knit together, and Carmy picks your knife up from the sink. You have no clue what he sees that you don’t, his eyes narrowing, but he shoots you a look once he’s done, setting it back down.
“It’s dull,” he says, like this is a punishable offense. Maybe in his kitchen, it is. “This is why we keep our knives sharp, so these fuck-ups don’t happen.”
“How was I supposed to know sharp knives were less dangerous?” You’re trying to joke, but your voice comes out watery. You press your lips together as adrenaline catches up to you, your vision blurring.
“Relax.” Carmy sounds tired. His grip is strong, though, as he wrestles you into a hug, thick arms banding across your shoulders. You feel stupid, and silly, and he can tell, his hand cupping the back of your neck as tears carve hotly down your cheeks. “You’re just supposed to know.”
You laugh wetly, breaking up some of the emotion knotted in your chest. Carmy pulls back until he can see your face. His hand moves to the side of your neck, thumb pressed against your jaw.
“You’re okay,” he says firmly. “Does it hurt?”
You shake your head. “Not really, I was just scared.” Your lips wobble pathetically, tears dribbling off your chin. “And you yelled at me.”
Carmy blows out a breath, his mouth slanting wryly. “That wasn’t yelling,” he says, but brings his other hand to your face, brushing your tears away with his thumbs. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” you choke out, pushing against his hands until he gives in, letting you fold yourself into his chest again. “I’m sorry I didn’t sharpen my knife.”
“I’ll do it for you later.” You can feel his biceps bulging as he tightens his grip on you, holding you closer. “But there’s no fucking way we’re using that melon now.”

Tumblr media
This JUST popped into my brain, and I got MAD, lol. In S3, Chris and Joana BETTER NOT make Sydney, Carmy's therapist and/or mother. I don't want her to "earn" his love by doing emotional labor. Yes, she bore too much during the renovation, but that was for HER dream as well. So far, she's been really good about maintaining her boundaries. She shares her emotions and backstory when she feels comfortable. She also allows Carmy to share his, while not burdening herself with his trauma. She holds him accountable and doesn't baby him, nor does she literally or metaphorically give him coochie. In short, she's not playing wifey with this messy man. It would be so easy to bc look at HIM.
I appreciate that so far their dynamic is actually pretty healthy. Yes, they hit a couple patches, but Carmy corrected himself quickly after the Brigade and the Review. In S2 he just didn't know how to juggle the restaurant and a love life. At the end of that season he realized that the partnership with Sydney and the restaurant matters more to him, albeit he took it too far in the freezer meltdown.
In the scene above we see CARMY initiating this conversation and offering Sydney emotional support and commitment, practically giving marital vows (eek!). In S10 before he got trapped in the freezer he helped her stay on expo and got Marcus away from her. There was his momentary lapse over the 7 Fishes getting cold (was that after he thought he saw his old EC?), but again he corrected quickly. Oh, why, oh why, didn't he call the freezer guy?!?! That first night could've been a glorious bonding event for him with Sydney and The Bear as a whole. But alas, we need the drama. Anyways, when he goes into Michelin Star mode in S3 I HOPE that Sydney doesn't bare the brunt of it. If she plays the long-suffering work wife, I'm going to be PISSED!! They like doing that to women generally and particularly women of color.

I have not seen one good reason as to why SydCarmy shouldn’t happen. Age gap? They’re maybe 2-3 years apart and both full grown adults. Power imbalance? They very clearly view each other as equals and respect each other deeply (I couldn’t do this without you, You were the best cdc in the u.s.) Professionalism? Many chefs and people who work in the culinary industry have said it’s quite common to have work place relationships. Carmy needs therapy? He can go to therapy AND be in a relationship, many people are. The Bear doesn’t need romance? There are many ships and many canon relationships (CarmyxClaire etc.), yet SydCarmy is the only one you don’t like. They’re better off as friends? Maybe, but many good relationships are a balance of friendship and partnership, so really they can remain besties and be in a romantic relationship.

how do you think it would be carmys first kiss with someone who works w/ him?
I’m assuming you mean like how it would happen? I’ve thought about this a couple of times and the main way I see it happening is after closing.
Maybe you stay behind late to work a dish that you couldn’t work on during operating hours, or you stay late to clean up. Regardless of your reasoning for staying, Carmy’s there because he’s always the last one to leave the restaurant.
Carmy finds his way behind you, watching as you cook. He’s so close that you can feel his breath on your neck. “What’s this, chef?”
“Uh-it’s wedding soup. Well, it’s going to be, anyway. I’ve been trying to perfect the recipe, but I didn’t want to do it on company time.” Your hands pause in cutting the carrots. He distracted you too much to risk getting nicked.
“Are you wanting it to be on the menu?”
“That’s up to you, not me,” you reply plainly. “You know, Carm, you don’t have to stay. I know it’s late. I can lock up after I’ve finished.”
“Do you want me to leave?” His question comes out as a whisper. The tension in the air thickens as you set the knife down on the cutting board and turn around. Your back leans against the counter behind you. Carmy’s right in front of you, leaving barely any space between his body and yours.
“No.” It’s only a mere second after your reply that Carmy’s lips crash into yours. It’s full of passion as his hands wrap around your waist to press your body into him.
NOW. to be completely honest I fear in character Carmy would then profusely apologize like “oh shit that was really fucking unprofessional. Fuck I’m sorry. I’m going to uh- go now.” And then run out of the restaurant </3. He just doesn’t know how to handle his feelings and feels like he acted rashly. The thing he’s most scared of is there being an improper balance with you since he’s your boss.
He would in time though stop being a wimp and would take you on a proper date. He really, really likes you he just simply doesn’t not know how to be in a relationship. Bless him.

Moments on Film: Carmy IS The Bear - Opening Scene Analysis
Hello friends. I hope your year is going well. If we have interacted or you’ve read my work before, hello again! If you’re new to my blog, welcome!
This is the final part I’ve been building to in a 3 part character analysis series I have written about the character of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto from The Bear. In the first part, I analyzed how 🔗Carmy doesn’t know who he is yet because he’s never had the safety and freedom to discover who he really is by connecting with his true passion, art. In part two, I analyzed 🔗Carmy’s true purpose and how I believe his destiny is to set everyone up for success, leave the kitchen behind and step into his light.
I have rewatched The Bear multiple times, but nothing ever captures the wonder, intrigue, and immediate empathy I felt for Carmy after that fascinating opening scene in the pilot episode. I have been thinking about it since I first watched it and it has stayed with me.
Since the first time I saw it, I have always believed Christopher Storer wrote the opening scene of The Bear to provide a portal into the entire arc for Carmy’s character. Let me explain.
Think about what Carmy is doing in the opening scene. He’s approaching a bear trapped in a cage. He speaks to it softly and gently, shushes it, empathises with it, coaxes it out and unlocks the cage. Look at the words used in the script:
Trapped, locked away
Whimpers, cries from inside
Emerges
A mass of dirty, matted hair
Mouth bleeding and ill
Shivers
“Shhh…..shhhh…it’s okay…”
Sad, abused eyes
There was a cute animal in there once
“Come on….go….”
“I know.”
Why is The Bear so personified in the script? Why is Carmy talking to it like it’s a person? Carmy looks into its “sad, abused eyes”, and tells it,
“I know.”
In my opinion, in the pilot episode, Carmy encountering the Bear is more than a dream, it’s a premonition because….it is Carmy talking to his future self.
Tumblr media
Think about everything we have seen him go through so far and read the scene below:
Tumblr media
I think Chris Storer has given us the arc of Carmy’s character in the form of a fevered dream Carmy has while watching over a slow cooking pot of gravy while he sleeps on the metal counter.
Carmy is the bear in the cage. S1 set the trap, by the end of S2, Carmy has fallen deep into it, and I think in future seasons, Carmy will suffer greatly, then will make great attenpts to heal, get in touch with what he really wants and will set himself free.
The fact that the opening scene in the series takes place on the State Street Bridge is an indication that Carmy saving himself—letting himself out of the cage—will save his own life. This is the same Bridge where his brother Michael, trapped in the same cage he is caught in now, separately, but somehow together, saw no way out and took his own life. The symbolism is striking. The Bridge is the connection between the two realms, and the difference between life and death.
I also think that the words used to describe the bear mean that things will get so much worse for Carmy before they get better. Season 1 ended with Carmy committed to opening The Bear. Season 2 ends with Carmy caught in the walk in freezer of the restaurant, a literal bear trap of his own making where he is buried alive by his unprocessed trauma, and inability to thrive in the very place he was supposed to lead, and crippling pressure to turn a profit to pay off his debts. This is because in my opinion, the restaurant, his cage, is not his natural habitat. This is why everything in it always seems like such a struggle and so painful, forced and joyless.
Tumblr media
I’m worried to see how things will get worse for Carmy than they already are. In the script, the bear is described as tapped, locked away, crying, whimpering from the inside, a mass of dirty matted hair, mouth bleeding and ill, shivering with sad, abused eyes.
From the moment I saw the drawing on the wall in the pilot episode, I said, wow, look at the bars, it’s a cage. Of course, I didn’t know until 2x6 that Carmy himself drew the sketch himself, as a Christmas gift for Michael, who was trapped in a horrible cage of his own at the time, which makes it all the more telling and poignant. There’s a reason why Carmy drew the sketch this way, even if it was subconscious, with the same bear trapped in a cage, which we see again in his dream.
Tumblr media

At the end of season 2, Carmy is trapped, pacing the cage of the walk-in freezer.
Tumblr media
I’ve been so worried about Carmy as a character since the first episode because it is so clear that he’s sick and badly needs help that he’s not getting. He has undiagnosed PTSD, and inner trauma that manifests physically in the form of nightmares, trouble breathing and terrible panic attacks that ravage his body. This has been so visceral to me throughout S1 and S2 that I wrote an analysis post about 🔗Carmy’s Vital Signs, and how they are dangerously visible on screen through Jeremy Allen White’s exceptional acting. The Bear in the pilot script is described as whimpering, crying and ill. If I am correct, this is where Carmy is headed before it can all turn around.
Tumblr media
One other little clue that Carmy is metaphorically the bear from the opening scene, is the physical look of Carmy’s hair. From the pilot episode, Carmy’s hair has bothered me. He’s a 3 Star chef, trained with the best, and worked under the abusive chef in New York who must have had him and his hygiene under a microscope. It never made sense to me that his hair at times looked dirty and unkempt while his shirts were immaculately clean, pressed, and white. Below is a quote from an article where Jeremy Allen White talks about his hair as Carmy:
"I also wanted Carmy to always look just a little dirty. There’s a sink on set — everything was functional — and before most takes, I would get water in my hands and run it through my hair to get it looking kind of greasy.”
This always stuck out to me. He’s playing not just any chef, but, in the words of Sydney, “the most excellent CDC at the most excellent restaurant in the United States of America.” A chef who clearly cares about cleanliness, who gets on his hands and knees to scrub the floor more than once with just his hands and a washcloth. Why would he want him to look dirty? But thinking of it now, if he too knows the arc of Carmy, which he has said Chris Storer has shared with him, then he understands that where we are headed is to witness him as the bear is described, emerging from the cage, “a mass of dirty, matted hair.” The slightly dirty hair is a physical clue into the journey he is on as a character.
Tumblr media
I think in future seasons we are going to see a great deal of guilt and therefore self flagellation from Carmy to over correct his mistakes from S2 that is going to further impact his mental and physical health. As I mentioned in a prior post, just like his tattoo, he is constantly dancing on the knife’s edge, and literally putting himself in life threatening danger.
I also have predicted in prior posts that Carmy is going to push himself so hard that he has a major health incident that might finally force Claire (if she’s still around) to actually take note of how sick he actually is. I’m not sure if she’s going to be prominently featured in S3, but I would not be surprised if a health emergency forces Carmy into her life somehow. It never made sense to me that her (then) boyfriend is sick, she’s an ER Doctor, and doesn’t seem to really notice or care.
As I mentioned in my last post, Carmy’s True Purpose, I ultimately believe that Carmy needs to get out of the kitchen and into a life where he can be happy and healthy, and connected to his true life’s purpose. I do not believe that this means Carmy will abandon his found family, or that he will do anything to betray Sydney. I believe she’s his shining star and he will do anything and everything in his power to make sure she gets hers. I also believe they will be in each other’s lives forever because they are truly soulmates. This isn’t about anyone else, though, I think this is about Carmy coming to terms with decades of abuse, unspoken thoughts and feelings, buried passions, his precarious health situation, which is in fact, eating him alive, and letting go of his long held mantra to 🔗 “just keep going”, before it kills him.
Perhaps there’s a way to marry art with the restaurant. That doesn’t solely mean he is only drawing. Maybe what Carmy really should be doing is creating, planning and designing menus, traveling the world to discover new flavors and finding inspiration that can help the restaurant, and provide him with much needed creatively, peace and, yes, joy. Maybe the restaurant will become seasonal and he and Sydney can spend the off time traversing the globe and creating menus together. Maybe down the line he can get out of the commercial kitchen, and he and Sydney’s can revamp her catering company and they can create together is a different environment. I must believe we are headed for somewhere healing, positive and beautiful, despite the valley of despair that ended S2.
The character of Carmy honestly breaks my heart. In him I see someone who so desperately needs a breakthrough and help on so many levels. He so badly needs to discover who he is and what actually makes him happy before it’s too late. I think Carmy is subconsciously very connected to this. His dream, which started the series, continues to haunt me.
One great thing about Carmy’s life are the people who now surround him. In my opinion, he needs to be very careful about how he treats them moving forward. He has people who genuinely love him and who I believe have his best interest at heart. If he pushes himself to the brink and then decides to leave the kitchen for the sake of his health, I believe everyone would ultimately understand. However, no one can take the reins of his life and fix it for him. Only he has that power and create his own reversal of fortune.
If I am correct, for his character to follow the arc of the opening dream scene, all Carmy ultimately has to do is unlock the cage and set himself free.
How he will arrive at that point is the journey of The Bear.

nothing in this world legit changed the trajectory of my life it was that good!!!! it made me think about the first birthday you celebrate with carmy and its obviously at the restaurant and he's so nervous and wants everything to be perfect for you
ahhh thank you so much!! i'm so overwhelmed with joy for the love it's gotten. i also can not say thank you enough to the og anon who requested it! whoever you are, non, if you feel comfortable and want to message me so i can say thank you personally i would appreciate it <3
but i think carmen would be so nervous for a lot of reasons, especially because he doesn't "share" his personal life with his family very much bc it always gets fucked up in a way. so that would be a huge step. not only making sure that the food and everything is perfect, but also that no one (richie and sugar mainly) says or does anything that would stress him.

Season One Episode Six, where Syd handles the rowdy John and Mr. Carl outside of the beef and Richie is running around trying to find his gun to defuse it. Richie and Carmy are shown handling violence with violence so often (or in Carmy’s case sometimes just shutting down) and that scene just really highlights the type of dynamic change in the Bear Syd is responsible for.
She reaches out to those guys with food, feeds them and gives them a reason to connect. In the face of violence her first instinct is to offer comfort, connection.
Or maybe I’m trippin idk hehe

bimbo sydney and pathetic carmen: ways they met? still choosing
no nsfw under cut! i just don’t fw long text 😆
1. carmen taking a different route home one day, noticing like a pink themed restaurant with a line out the front door. he remembers something about richie and nat saying the pastries were good so he decided to stop by. maybe give marcus some inspo. when he finally goes in sydney is leaving but she recognizes carmen from being a top chef and all. carmen is sitting there dumbfounded with frosting on his face and the most beautiful girl in the world dressed head to toe in pink gushing over him.
2. sydney went on a blind date, her friend set her up, and the guy is absolutely disgusting. she got her hair done, wore her shortest dress and highest heels, and put on a pretty perfume just for her date to look like grease ball. needless to say she excuses herself to the bathroom and plots her escape. unfortunately for her, her date is standing outside the bathroom so… she makes a run for it. out to the back of the restaurant where a guy in chef’s whites is smoking a cigarette. great another grease ball. except when he turns his head and he has the prettiest sleepy blue eyes she’s ever seen. they stare at each other for awhile and then sydney remembers why she’s even out here. so she pulls her dress down, fixes her hair, and asks which way is the nearest subway.
3. carmen’s at the flea market and sydney’s selling all this vintage clothing. when he approached her stall she was behind it doing something but he did peep the tight jeans covering legs that never seem to end and her almost stripper like heels on. when she comes around in all her glory he knows he’s fucked. he doesn’t even want to bargain with her. he’ll buy everything she sells. when they start talking, carmen sees that sydney really knows her stuff and every time carmen tries to test her she comes right for his ass.

I'm hoping for 90s RnB levels of Carmy spiraling over Syd and from pushing The Bear crew too hard mid to end of S3. I want to yell at my screen, fists clenched, dinner uneaten because Chris and Joana have tied my stomach in knots. Then Carmy confesses to someone. Maybe to her or even just out loud to himself, in the rain, like it's 1994.
