A Parade of Providence haikaveh analysis + predictions
HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO A PARADE OF PROVIDENCE!!! <3 as such I thought it would be fitting to talk about a parade of providence and how this affects Alhaitham and Kaveh's relationship in light of Cyno's story quest 2!
Through Alhaitham’s efforts in researching Sachin’s involvement with Kaveh’s father and repeatedly commenting on Kaveh’s internal conflict, it is established in A Parade of Providence that, ultimately, Alhaitham wants betterment for Kaveh – however, this is at odds with his enjoying of Kaveh, as in, Kaveh being a part of his way of life which he seeks to maintain. If he is direct with Kaveh about his intentions, he risks complete rejection, both in Kaveh rejecting him, and in Kaveh rejecting himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thus, it is evident that a new method of understanding one another must be established – and this is demonstrated in the note Alhaitham writes to Kaveh, in a language only the two know. Kaveh is unable to fully comprehend Alhaitham’s meaning, however, due to his misinterpretation of Alhaitham’s character.
As Kaveh views Alhaitham as an egoist who looks down upon his altruism, all of Alhaitham’s words and actions are interpreted through this lens. However, this event has the potential to cause Kaveh to question this. Not only within Kaveh’s uncertainty of Alhaitham’s intentions regarding the meaning of his notes on the idealist denying themselves happiness, but through Alhaitham’s understanding of their relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alhaitham states to Kaveh that the issue that they disagree over, is not the “correctness” of their philosophies, as Kaveh believes. There is a silence within the text here, which is cause not only for the player to question, but predominantly Kaveh to question. As Kaveh asserts: “What topic of conversation could be more sacred among scholars than… differing philosophies?”, being that their opposing viewpoints are the basis for their interaction, whereas Alhaitham has initiated the interaction due to informing Kaveh on his findings on Sachin: “I didn’t come here for the conversation. Well, not this one at least”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The basis of this interaction for Alhaitham is a personal interest in Kaveh, whereas Kaveh believes it to be about their conflicting differences. This sentiment, too, is applicable to the standing of their current relationship, where Alhaitham is personally interested in Kaveh’s existence and all that he offers, whereas Kaveh understands Alhaitham to be averse to the conflicts in their natures. For Alhaitham, then, to state that the reason for their disputes not hinging on the “correctness” of their respective philosophies, is an address to Kaveh for him to question what, then, is the reason for their disputes.
Tumblr media
Kaveh has understood the contextual clues which Alhaitham has provided, however, his perception of Alhaitham disallows him from fully understanding. He questions Alhaitham’s intentions in writing him the note; he recognises that Sachin’s research into nihilism do not intersect with Alhaitham’s egoism, and therefore, Alhaitham would have no interest in looking into him, and yet, Alhaitham has done so, only to unveil Sachin’s connection with Kaveh’s father. Kaveh thanks Alhaitham for doing so, however, he has seemingly not truly understood why.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adding to this, if Alhaitham does not keep Kaveh around out of arguing the “correctness” of his egoism, what is Alhaitham’s reason for doing so? This question is posed for Kaveh to recognise and, eventually, answer. By reflecting on his own perception of Alhaitham, Kaveh is closer to understanding Alhaitham’s intentions, and thus, his own betterment – depending on whether he accepts, or rejects, Alhaitham’s concern. Ultimately, it is Kaveh’s choice whether he seeks to absolve himself from guilt, although Alhaitham is integral as a catalyst.
Tumblr media
Communication is the key here, as for Kaveh to better understand Alhaitham, Alhaitham must better express himself in order to truly be heard. This links into the core principle of their characters as mirrors; what they lack in themselves is present in the other. With Kaveh being identified as an empath, he believes good communication is the key to mutual trust, and with Alhaitham viewing conversation as a means to an end, the two have conflicting methods of dialogue, and thus, this results in misunderstanding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Alhaitham to effectively convey his meaning, he must do so on Kaveh’s terms. However, such methods of conveying goodwill can be counterproductive due to Kaveh’s internal workings, thus, Alhaitham resorts to actions.
By researching into Sachin, despite his initial disinterest, Alhaitham further expands his view on the world, and his objective truth, through the catalyst of sensibility – Kaveh.
Tumblr media
His notes on the idealist denying themselves happiness at the risk of losing themselves to these inherently conflicted ideals resonate with Kaveh due to how he cannot assign a negative intention to Alhaitham’s action. By using less derisive language to convey his meaning, along with an empathetic interpretation of Kaveh’s idealist, this contradicts Kaveh’s perspective of Alhaitham as a detached egoist, and therefore, Alhaitham’s meaning is called into question. Sensibility present in actions appears to be an effective way of Kaveh questioning his perspective of Alhaitham, as this meets Kaveh in how he communicates his care of Alhaitham.
It is relevant to discuss that Kaveh held a gathering for his friends after winning the Interdarshan Championship, and in this, also invited Alhaitham, although he was not present due to him being in Aaru Village. Despite this, Kaveh orders dishes to take home for Alhaitham, which Alhaitham notes to the Traveler. These actions convey Kaveh’s thoughtfulness for others, however, it is noted that this is not necessary to do so in Alhaitham’s case, as Kaveh has established a “mutual” dislike between the two of them. This, however, is established due to Alhaitham’s wounding of Kaveh’s pride, as Kaveh’s feelings towards Alhaitham are inherently more conflicted.
Since Kaveh undertakes these actions out of his sensibility, it is relevant to discuss his critiques on Alhaitham’s chosen separation from others. In this event, Kaveh complains about Alhaitham missing out on the gathering in order to find a “hidey-hole to read in”, only to reveal that his complaint serves as cover for concern, when he states: “You need to change your ways, you know. You can’t survive on books alone”.
Tumblr media
This aligns with Kaveh’s critique of Alhaitham’s egoism in terms of separating oneself from others in order to better serve oneself, however, here it is a clear indicator of concern, rather than critique. As Kaveh understands meeting with friends as important to one’s livelihood, by Alhaitham avoiding doing so, he believes Alhaitham serves to damage himself. Sensibility, and the ability to value others’ company, to Kaveh is a means of looking after oneself, and Alhaitham denying this, thus, concerns Kaveh.
Tumblr media
This demonstrates that the concern the two have for each other does not stem from their belief in the “correctness” of their respective ideologies and enforcing it onto the other, but rather what the other lacks which threatens their development. Both, through their understanding of the world due to the respective philosophies, want to provide what they believe the other lacks in order for the other to be a better realised individual.
The issue, at its core, is not whether they are wrong or right about their beliefs, but rather if their beliefs can benefit the other instead of harming them.
Kaveh’s callback to his initial reaction upon meeting Alhaitham (that, at first, their views “aligned” and were “complete”, being a false judgement, and that instead their differing philosophies could adjourn new speculation (Old Sketchbook) in the line: “What topic of conversation could be more sacred among scholars than… differing philosophies?”, conveys that new speculation can be found in the balancing of their philosophies. Evidently, the idea of ‘balancing’ their philosophies can be seen in their positive influence over each other, in them providing solutions to the other’s problems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, the question of whether Alhaitham and Kaveh can balance each other out, can maintain a harmony of opposites, exists in the sole premise of their existence: “Rationality and sensibility, language and architecture, knowledge and human feelings... Things that can never be integrated are what constitute the two sides of the mirror”.
Tumblr media
Through Kaveh continuing to live with Alhaitham; Alhaitham’s assertion that Kaveh separating himself from the crowd not being a negative in terms of pursuing his ideals; and Alhaitham undertaking different methods of communication for Kaveh to better understand him, A Parade of Providence establishes that both of their fates lie within each other. This creates the promise of a narrative which follows the two reaching a mutual understanding potentially to be explored in future events.

I need someone, ANYONE to see what I'm seeing.
Wyll x Rion (Jaheira's sassy daughter).
Okay, okay, I know, but hear me out:
Wyll becomes Duke, Rion ranks up in the Flaming Fists. They meet again some time post game because of their jobs. Wyll trying to woo her while she is just struggling to keep him alive through assassination attempts and other political shenanigans. He tries so hard to have a romance straight out of a book, except he fails to realize that he's the princess and she's the knight in shining armor (and she's very grumpy about it).
They're both idealists and inherently good guys; they both want to protect Baldur's Gate as much as they can and help people. They're a perfect match in my heart.
He'd fall first, because maybe she reminds him of Florrick a little and maybe he sees the good she wants to do behind the grumpy sassy facade she shows the world and the love and care she has for her adopted siblings whom she practically raised. He would look at her and see how fierce and intense she is and maybe he would notice the assassin coming his way a tiiiiny bit before he shows it but she's always there to save him anyways and she looks really hot doing so, so what's the harm?
And she'd fall harder because she would be convinced at first that he's another one of those 'heroes' like her mum who in the pursuit of greatness forget to be good people but slowly she realizes that he's actually not like that at all, he's a 20-something romantic and a tiny bit goofy guy trying to take an entire city's wellbeing onto his shoulders both to honour his late dad and because he's just Like That and oh my god he's kinda cute actually what the fuck.
Wyll gets to be like "That's my wife!" *kicks feet* and Rion gets to be like "That's my husband!" *punches you in the face*
And their happily ever after would involve kids (adopted or not), awkward ballroom dancing with his very much not used to it wife, and reforming Baldur's Gate and the Flaming Fists to do better.
Does anyone understand my vision??? Please???

Angsty Bilbo dying Bagginshield art giving me another story idea~ 😂😭💕
But no, seriously? A play on the popular time travel fix-it, but one where Bilbo dies protecting Thorin during the Battle of Five Armies? And Thorin is inconsolable, I can’t even. And he might pull himself together long enough to stabilize Erebor, but there is No Way he can be a good ruler in his grief, so he has to pass it on. (I was going to say to Dain just to twist that knife a little harder, but actually there are reasons hinted below on why Fíli & Kíli must have lived.) And Thorin just… he wanders, probably. A shell of himself the rest of his days.
And yet, when he inevitably passes away, he awakens on the road to the Shire. And he’s younger. And he’s so confused, quickly suspecting he must be dead and this is nothing like what he was taught to expect. But then his instant impulse to check Bag End has him walking in on that same meeting from so many years ago, his Company intact, the wizard smiling at him, introducing him to… to…
Bilbo. His Bilbo. The sight of him makes Thorin want to weep and hold him and never let go again, but he is instantly terrified to do anything, because is this a dream? Will he wake? What happens if he says something new, will ‘this’ be ruined somehow? He doesn’t want that, doesn’t want to change anything, save for the end. The very end.
But, even as he strives to mimic himself, he knows something is wrong. He’s off-script from the start purely due to his shock, but he tries to recover, get back on track, and within words, he’s managed it. The discussion is righting itself, and no one there could possibly know the difference, right?
And yet, Bilbo stares at him. From the instant Thorin walked in, Bilbo was staring, looking lost. As he had before, that first time, but it wasn’t the same. Bilbo had been confused then as well, but it had been a light, anxious uncertainty then. This time? He was frowning, his expression tense.
His eyes haunted.
Because Bilbo has also lived that night before. Just once as far as that night was concerned, but it was familiar to him. So familiar. That first night had haunted him for decades, to the very end of his long, long life, when he thought he might know rest, and perhaps — if he was truly as lucky as some once claimed — he might get to see his friends again. See Thorin again.
Instead he had slept, drifted away, and awoken to a battle about to start.
And he had questioned it, had stumbled that first time, but he adjusted. He tried to save Thorin. To save them all.
And he failed. Again.
Then, when he finally slept for the first time afterwards, he awoke to the battle starting again.
And again.
And he tried, over and over, day after the same horrid day to find a way to get through. And sometimes Thorin lived. Sometimes the princes did. Sometimes, new people died. The wrong people.
Once, in his darkest moments, he thought that perhaps someone was trying to teach him humility, teach him to accept fate as it was and not try to fight it, not change anything. And so he went through the motions as well as he could remember them after all those years, following them to the letter, save for when he sobbed all the harder when it was done.
He sobbed again, the relief bone-deep, when he awoke again the next day, the battle still awaiting him.
He lost count of his attempts, and no one could rightly vouch for his state of mind when he finally resorted to the one thing he had refused to try: Not since that fourth (or fifth?) time, when he managed to be there for the fight and threw himself in Azog’s way, but Thorin pulled him out of the way, and screamed at him with such outrage and fear and despair in the few beats he bought by pushing Azog over, that Bilbo never attempted it again.
Until that final day. And that time, Bilbo didn’t give Thorin a chance to stop him.
And it broke a heart Bilbo thought long since shattered to hear Thorin scream, to feel him pick him up and hold him close and hear his voice like that. But the words faded soon enough, and he couldn’t feel anything, nothing except for regret and acceptance, because this was different. He felt it. This time, he would not awaken again, and that was fine. He had saved his king, kept all of his dwarves safe that last time. If that was to be the last, then that was all he could ask for. It was alright. He could sleep.
Then he woke up.
Not outside Erebor, but inside a hole. His hole. Bag End.
He walked outside, stood in the sun, and watched a wizard walk up the road to his door.
He did not understand.

Playing Fallout 1 and noticing Necropolis disappear from the caravans is just. So perfect.
The game brings no attention to it. No one mentions it. The caravans just don’t go there anymore. It makes you wonder what happened, you solved all their problems already, right?
So now you have a reason to go back there, cause otherwise there’s really no reason too. And when you do, everyone is gone. There’s no more ghouls, just super mutants. They invaded, and there’s nothing you can do to stop them. Once you hit that date, the city is gone.
It’s frankly a brilliant moment of subtle storytelling and even though I already knew about Necropolis’ fate it still motivated me to go back, just to make sure.
I wonder how many people discovered it this way? I can only imagine just how effective this reveal is for someone actually playing the game blind.

"hey yeah we didn't feel like doing long questlines anymore :) sorry!" feels like an ao3 author's note who stops posting and leaves their fics unfinished on chapter 25/27 because they moved fandoms, except this is a (supposedly) professional company getting paid to produce a product people are paying for who are just leaving not just the event questline but like half a dozen proper questlines in general abandoned and unfinished in their game on what is essentially a whim.
Finishing a project is a skill that is quite literally expected of university students, let alone working adults, and offering good experiences to your players means giving them satisfactory endings to quests after stringing them along for years.
Any goddamn professional who goes "hey these long questlines aren't working, lets shift to a more stand-alone shorter style of quest development" should still have the goddamn decency to finish the ongoing quests instead of abandoning them entirely. It's messy and immature not to.
"oooo but [insert name] left the company!! so we don't know how to finish it :(" the only thing less professional than just throwing shit out unfinished is to have entire parts of your process rely on a single person with no way to pick it back up if that person gets sick/quits/gets fired. do fucking better.

Book 8 is pretty neat so far, if a little bit bland (that's just cause it feels more like it fits more with the overarching aesthetic and plot of book 1 and 6 which are a little bland). I love Kozaki as a character designer so no surprise, I think the new characters look great.
I kind of wish we could get a mainline FE game that had a little more of the mystical feel that FEH has. The plot of the game is poo poo garbage but aesthetically FEH is really neat! Even book 7 had some really nice visuals despite the ugly characters. And the music for each book is usually pretty interesting, especially the last few which had that off beat kind of mystical feel.
They should make a really mage focused FE game with a bunch of cool shiny stuff and hire Kozaki to do more sleak designs.

guys i am BEGGING i was reading this one heart wrenching fic on ao3 but then i had to delete the tab and I CAN'T FIND IT
so basically it was based off of nahida's first story quest, where people kept falling asleep and staying within the dreams, except in the fic it spread to all of sumeru. everyone who fell asleep was at risk. BASICALLY alhaitham falls asleep, and then realizes it's a dream because dream!kaveh treats him too well and loves him too much for it to be reality, and then he wakes up, only to find out that kaveh has fallen asleep and hasn't woken up!!! also i think cyno checks on him and mentions that tighnari has also fallen asleep and succumbed to this disease (NOT DEAD just asleep)
please guys i need help

forever mad about how dirty they did aveline from act 2 onward
#thinking way too much abt it rn cus i just finished her quest today#she is important to liam and i enjoy their relationship a lot & also her character in general in the earlier acts#but MAN i hate what they did to her in acts 2 and 3#laya plays dragon age#feels like there is such a disconnect from her attitude between acts 1 and 2?#or well. maybe not disconnect exactly but even so there is an important shift there and we never even get to see it OR question it#she could have been such a good contribution to the story and the themes by putting her at a crossroads of#do i keep following what i know and become another cog in the system or do i challenge them and break out of it#cus like. in act 1 she is not above going against laws when her own morals (or even just biases) go against them#but is generally still in favor of ''regular'' law and order (which does get challenged by characters sometimes which is nice!)#(sort of) blind loyalty is already a fault of hers and now her loyalty is understandably mostly towards her guards#but then her companion quest is not in fact about herself but about frickin. courting the guy she likes???????#full on i thought this was a silly quest for levity in an act that has a lot of dark moments#but no it is Her Important Quest TM and not only does she not get with him if you dont do the quest#but her entire attitude and happiness going forward depends on it????? what the hell#also fun fact first time playing act 2 i thought that there was a lot going over my head and like#and some of it did yeah but i also just Assumed that bc the way aveline acted/ the guards actions were presented through her#didnt line up with what actually happened#(& her being so defensive and dismissive didnt line up with the impression i got of her before that)#sorry for the rant im just once again mad about cool characters being screwed over by the writing

Ragnvindr bros angst is fun but it’s also very important to remember that these absolute dorks still hang out with each other despite the Everything. I’m oversimplifying here but it’s like fighting with your sibling but then texting them a meme twenty minutes later but ramped up to 11 and more emotionally fraught.
