Chapter 6: The Dive

Warnings: 18+, angst, dislocated joints, blood, and mentions of suicide.

Pairings: Eddie x Mika (Forged in Hellfire) Steve x Jesse ((Mention)The Badass Babysitters Club runs in parallel in the same universe)

Mika goes into Lovers Lake with Steve.

Her grandfather taught her to surf when she was 10, so she's a strong swimmer and like hell is she letting him go alone.

Eddie tries to get her to stay, but she just throws her shirt at him, insisting she'll be fine.

The whole time they're under he's an anxious wreck. Even more so than when Jason and the team were searching Rick's.

As soon as the 2 resurface, he's holding onto her forearms, trying to figure out how to pull her back into the boat.

Then Steve gets pulled under and her eyes lock with his before she goes down too, Eddie nearly getting dragged down with her.

And he panics.

He's on the verge hyperventilating when Nancy jumps in, followed by Jesse and Robin. He has to calm himself down, to get enough air in his lungs so he can make it to the gate.

Both she and Steve get dragged through the gate and along the dry lake bed by the vines, getting scraped and bruised.

She puts up more of a fight when one of them wraps it's tail around her throat, once she's able to grab the knife in her pocket. They grab her wrist and one of her ankles, pulling, wreaking havoc on her joints and latching onto abdomen.

After the others buy them a moment of peace, Eddie is at her side. His hands on her cheeks and he can't get words out as she coughs and hacks.

She struggles to stand as the other bats descend on them, and, seeing she can't walk (let alone run), he picks her ups and books it.

Once they're at Skull Rock, he sets her down, hands gently checking her wounds.

"I think my ankle is dislocated... and- and my shoulder."

"O-okay? What... what do I do?" His eyes are all big and worried, shaking hands softly caressing her skin. She has to talk him through it, nearly biting through her lip each time a joint is popped back into place.

Both times he chokes out the most pained "I'm Sorry," she's ever heard.

He's seen her roughed up before, she'd been in so many fights growing up, most to defend him (though he'd hate to admit), but this is different. Bloody bite marks on her stomach, dark bruises forming on her ankle, wrist, and neck.

It doesn't even register with him that she's shirtless, sweater long forgotten in the boat, until she she shivers. And he's tearing of his vest and jacket to give to her.

"Don't you ever fucking scare me like that again!" he scolds, wrapping the leather around her shoulders, "If I ever fucking lost you... I-"

His voice breaks and she can't tell if he looks more angry or scared, knuckles white as he grips the jacket, "Damnit Mika! I'd fucking kill myself!"

"E-Eddie-"

"No! Jesus Christ, Mikaela. I can't watch you die because of my bullshit," tears stream down his face, he doesn't care that the others are right there, "If I lost you like that, there would be no coming back for me, I'd be ruined."

"Eddie," she cups his cheek, "Hey..."

"So just-" his head turns and he sobs into her palm, "Please don't go diving for weird Hell portals again. I don't think my heart could take it."

She winces when he pulls her close and buries his face in her neck, if he notices he doesn't react.

Once they feel safe enough to move, both Steve and Mika bandaged and in Eddie's clothes, they start for Nancy's.

Eddie insists on carrying her, so she let's him give her a piggyback, both of them finding comfort in the closeness.

He sets her down once they're inside the Wheeler's, but his hand never leaves her waist as he helps her up the stairs.

Eventually they make it to the trailer and he helps her up the makeshift rope, "You better be careful with my girl when she comes through, Henderson. Or I'll kick your ass!"
