We started The Queer Muslim Project so that LGBT Muslims in India would have a safe space to just be, without giving up on one or the other. We do monthly support group meetings, events like Eid potlucks, Iftaar parties and workshops and talks. We also had India's first ever LGBT Muslim retreat this year, which for me personally was a life changing experience. We also do digital advocacy and use personal narratives to tell stories of LGBT Muslims from all over the world.

Currently, we are doing a campaign called #SpiritofRamadan celebrating different facets of the month.

We have faced a lot of backlash from the LGBT commmunity here in India claiming that we are dividing the community, when the community here is largely right wing and very Islamophobic. We, of course, get the usual homophobic/transphobic people attacking us for 'ruining' Islam.
