Forgot the general Reddit Guilty Gearer isn't aware of how gay some of the official media is. GGCA 08 seems to be scaring some people over there. I've spent too much time in the rancid Sol/Ky mines; I've forsaken my humanity and need to be more considerate of what I post in the future [disingenuous]

Long, rambling, general post (with some detours into Austen + SW):
I find the academic obsession with novelty (at least in my field) rather irritating and in some ways actively harmful. But I've been thinking about it as I work on my dissertation, and there is an underlying concept I do find important.
Over here, I'm pretty content to scream my opinions at no one in particular, and have fun if people end up (courteously) answering back. But while there are commonalities between fandom meta practices and academia, a major difference (again, at least in my field) is that in academia, you essentially have to familiarize yourself with the wider community and discourse, and engage with it.
In literature, at least, it's important that you're not just reaching interpretations in a functional vacuum—interpretations that may well have been reached and argued thoroughly and well before. If you've got something fresh to contribute to the overall conversation, okay—maybe you basically agree with another interpretation but feel it could be expanded upon or there are some nuances that got missed. But the conversation doesn't particularly benefit from people just echoing the exact some interpretations over and over without adding or modifying them at all.
To put it another way, not everyone needs to (or should) cover every interpretation they agree with. This is not exactly literary criticism's reputation, but it's fundamentally social. Not everyone needs to do everything. Different people can and should cover different ground, and the general discussion benefits from this.
But this post isn't really about academia.
I think there's some real value in this idea that not everyone needs to be seen to repeat every correct take, or every take they agree with. Sometimes you're not really equipped to add anything. Sometimes you're not the best judge of a particular issue because it's not in your ballpark. Sometimes the ground has been so thoroughly covered in wider social discourse that you don't really need to add to it.
And I think this is especially important when it comes to the Internet firehose. People essentially repeating the same thing over and over and over without adding anything significant is a major way that ideas—including mistaken ideas—spread so quickly. Sometimes it's fairly inane jokes that become inescapable for an OP or within a fandom or whatever (book Isildur fans unite!). Sometimes it's mistaken or irrelevant corrections that someone/some people get bombarded with because no one bothers to check if the corrections have been made already. Sometimes it's the same reply ad nauseam, which quickly becomes intensely irritating while adding nothing. Sometimes it's worse than that—wrongheaded or exaggerated attacks on someone's character that get launched at the person incessantly, or active disinformation.
But basically, I think it's worth considering the shape of the overall discussion when you're considering what you specifically are going to contribute to it, if anything. Sometimes this is very serious. Sometimes it's a minimal consideration for others and for your impact on the general atmosphere in a fandom or some other social context.
For instance: back in 2005, when the Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen Pride and Prejudice came out, my part of Austen fandom was having absolute conniptions over it. Some of this was over literally any adaptation of P&P ever being made after the 1995 mini-series (especially anyone else ever playing Darcy). Some of this was over claims that the 2005 P&P was generally more Brontë than Austen. Some of it had to do with particular contractions, or certain depictions of characters, jokes, aesthetics, dialogue, etc. I remember very serious articles about how it was a flash in the pan that would soon disappear from cultural consciousness (lol).
I actually share a number of the criticisms, as it happens! But I thought (and still think) that the collective outrage was ... excessive, at best. So I mostly didn't talk about my personal gripes because they already seemed to disproportionately dominate the conversation (to me, etc), and I didn't want to add to it. But it interests me that people have sometimes assumed that not personally adding to the griping about it means that I love it (and often, that I need to be corrected from doing so!). The same thing happens with particular ships or dynamics I don't like but don't want to add to discourse about.
I've definitely erred in the other direction. I used to talk quite a bit more about my criticisms of the Star Wars prequels, for instance, which I later regretted despite still having those criticisms. The fandom rage was just so over the top and everything covered so exhaustively and excessively by others that it (very belatedly) started to feel like adding to it was kind of like kicking a dog.
On the flipside, sometimes the firehose is pointed the opposite way from my personal opinion, and even if that opinion is just a mousy little cheep amidst the roar of approval/disapproval, voicing it seems more appropriate to me than joining a stampede of disproportionate hatred. Or sometimes the general discourse is pretty mixed and you just have to exercise judgment about your role in it (I've definitely gone for "I see a lot of debate on this point and hell with it, I get a place in the ring, too").
But in any case, I think that the pressure to be seen to have a take all the time and the assumptions made about people if they don't individually weigh in on ... basically everything is really misguided. We're social creatures! Sometimes ground has already been thoroughly covered. Sometimes it's been covered far too much. And I think stopping to think of what we're really adding, even when we're not plodding through reviews of the literature in academia, can be worth attempting.

So as the person who created the Miku/Vriska poll and thus saw everyone's tags and comments about it I thought I would do a little write-up about it bc I thought that that it was pretty interesting.
A lot of people have accused me of rigging the poll (no idea how I would do this) or having biased followers-- however I did blaze the post specifically so that it would get outside my own circle of followers and thus be more fair.
For the first two or so hours of the poll, there was about a 60/30 Miku/Vriska split which was a lot heavier than I expected. After the blaze got approved (on the 3rd hour) the gap started to close, and the 4th and 5th hour were probably the closest it ever got, with the results at one point being 54/46, an 8 point lead for Miku. However, as the post started get more and more popular, around the time of it hitting 5k notes, Miku went back farther into the lead as the post spread around people farther and farther away from my own circle.
The poll ended at having around 6k notes (I was asleep so I'm not sure exactly, but I'm judging based on what it was when I fell asleep and when I woke up). The poll received 29,882 votes with 59% (~17,630 votes) for Miku and 41%(~12,251) for Vriska. For reference, the official poll run by @lutzlig for Vriska/Bayonetta that was happening at the same time received 33,249 votes and had around 5k notes at time of finishing. The Miku/Bayonetta poll where Miku lost 46% to 54% received 46,172 votes and had somewhere under 4k notes at time of finishing.
From what I saw in the tags and comments, the motivations for voting for either character were generally: • The character was more nostalgic to them (they had known of the character longer than the other one) • They felt the character had more personal influence on their life • They liked/identified with the character more • They liked/identified more strongly with the character's fandom
The reasons people voted for Vriska specifically were: • They felt her popularity/iconic-ness was more specific to Tumblr • They felt Homestuck/Vriska had a greater cultural impact on Tumblr • They felt Miku was a more recent occurrence in Tumblr culture • They felt that her level of controversy was more accurate to Tumblr's reputation and identity • They felt Miku didn't have a personality • They incorrectly identified the poll as a "sexywoman" poll and did not think Miku was sexy
The reasons people voted for Miku specifically were: • They felt she was overall more "iconic" and well-known worldwide • They recalled more specific memes about her (Miku at the grocery store, Thomas Jefferson Miku Binder, "Miku made Minecraft," etc) • Miku has an older internet presence • They did not know who Vriska was • They disliked Vriska as a character • They disliked Homestuck as a whole • They felt as if she had been wronged in the Bayonetta poll (sometimes specifically by Vriska fans sabotage)
Overall I felt the thing that had the strongest amount of impact on Miku winning the poll was simply that Miku was popular, well-liked, and well-known. I saw many tags of "I don't know who this grey bitch is" or "idk who that is but it's clearly homestuck and I hate homestuck" or even "I had heard of Vriska but this is the first time I've seen what she looks like-- so she clearly can't be that iconic." Whereas I got literally two comments out of the thousands of tags and comments that didn't know who Miku was. By virtue of Miku being basically whoever and whatever you want her to be, she's entirely uncontroversial. And well, any of us who've been here long enough know about vriskourse.
Personally I felt that they were both deserving in their own ways-- Miku was the tumblr woman we needed but Vriska is probably the tumblr woman we deserve.

i know there is and will continue to be a lot of controversy about the hate crime scene, so if you don’t want to read this post because you won’t agree with me criticizing it, then don’t read it, don’t clown on it, just don’t interact and move on with your day, i’m not taking names and hunting people down for their opinions especially when i do not personally know most of you.
obligatory statement: i’m not cis, not het, not white. do not be a bigot on this post :)
i remember very clearly the night that clip dropped + literally spending the next 2 or 3 days scrolling through the tag to read every single post in there to gather all of the opinions that i could find, everything from people who had been following the season from the very first second of the first episode, to people who were only casual viewers, who had not offered commentary before that point and only came out to share their opinions after the enormous shock wave that clip generated throughout the fandom. i don’t even think that sander running out of the hotel in episode 8 caused nearly as much of an uproar, mostly because the majority of us knew that was coming (though i do remember the outrage that we didn’t see robbe find him until it was past midnight, which is also completely understandable).
over those next few days and the following weeks, i saw the full spectrum of opinions continue to expand as more and more people gradually processed what they had seen and began to come to their own conclusions about it, especially those, like mine, with many layers of conflicting emotions. some even shared their own stories that were deeply personal and brave and heart-wrenching and hope-giving. what was pretty universal, however, was that no one saw the hate crime coming. it wasn’t in og, it hasn’t been done in any other remake, there was no hint or warning whatsoever that it was imminent. i know part of that is probably the production thinking that was an appropriate way to show how something like that can unfold in real life. do i agree with how that decision was made? ultimately, no. i’m sure that plenty of you also share that opinion to some extent. i’m sure that many of you also excuse, turn a blind eye to, or even defend the hate crime’s necessity and importance. i’ve said before that it’s not a black-and-white situation and i continue to stand by that. i also stand by the opinion that the writers handled the execution poorly even if they had good intentions. intention ≠ impact. there should have been a trigger warning. there should have been a better and more assertive resolution in the following episodes, like there was for zoë’s season (which was very well done and makes me confused why they didn’t give robbe the same treatment but i digress)
“but iT’S REALISTIC—” yes, it’s realistic that gay people experience violence for being gay. no one is denying that this stuff happens. but the aftermath of the incident, which robbe discussed only briefly twice with milan (and senne, but robbe never told him the full truth of what happened) and then was not addressed further, even when it was at some points clearly mirroring zoë’s struggle with testifying against viktor? that was not realistic. i recognize the very real possibility that they are going to drag the assault into s4 to show how robbe’s storyline impacts however they’ve written yasmina’s arc, but whatever they have planned for her honestly terrifies me to no end because we have never had an adequate sana season that does the muslim main justice. i am including og in this, for those of you who have not seen it. i’m sure that many of you who have seen skamfr s4 and druck s4 agree with me. it goes without saying that i believe they should have addressed the assault before robbe’s season actually ended in order to minimize the amount of interference that he would cause in yasmina’s season. don’t mistake this as me hating on robbe; he is one of my favorite isaks hands down. i can simultaneously love his character and hate what the writers did with him.
“but wiLLEM SAID—” first of all, if you yourself are straight and you are pulling willem’s words from the article to defend your opinion, i want you to step back from the situation and examine the details a little further. willem herbots, for all the speculation that has gone on, has now stated outright with no ambiguity that he is straight. i do not deny his talent as an actor; anyone who follows and reads my tags knows that i have many times before praised his skill in portraying robbe as intimately as he did in s3. but the hard pill to swallow for a lot of you is that by being straight, he lacks the inherent nuance that only personal experiences and struggles with sexual identity can bring to a character whose arc literally revolves around internalized homophobia and coming out. no amount of research can help him understand robbe’s character the way a gay actor would. and to be clear, this is not a moral condemnation against him; i’m not blaming willem for being straight, which is a wild thing to have to state lmao but you never know with tumblr. i do harbor the same sort of apprehension that i harbor towards any straight actor who plays gay roles regardless of their reasoning behind it (most of it falls somewhere along the lines of “i wanted to challenge myself” which honestly is such bullshit to me). but, to my knowledge, we have never had a single male isak who was played by an actor who is lgbt+ irl (i’m not counting skamesp because lucas doesn’t fit the original mold since he’s both isak and eskild, sorry if you have a problem with that), so i’m not exactly surprised that wtfock hasn’t broken that mold. saying all that, i do think he is incredibly sensitive and compassionate for his age and amount of experience, and it is rare to see someone answer questions with the kind of sincerity that comes through even in what appears to me is a fluff piece that is meant to please readers rather than present the most objective truths.
i will link a post here that pretty succinctly sums up my view on what willem stated about the hate crime and about how this interview happened in the first place, but something that i did notice that no one afaik has talked about: notice how willem uses I-statements to answer literally every single question in the interview up until he’s asked about the assault, where he slips almost too obviously into the royal “we” that is often characteristic of pre-fabricated answers: “The only moment we really showed... but we really wanted to show the harsh reality of being out...  it’s not something we wanted to ignore in WtFOCK.” in the same paragraph, he uses “we” 3 times, where at no point before he had done so. of course, it’s possible that he did say it at other points and those sentences simply didn’t make the final cut for the article, but i still think it’s pretty telling that all of his other answers are so grounded in his personal, individual thoughts and experiences, but that specific response is so stilted and formal it’s almost awkward. it’s very likely that he was regurgitating an answer that was fed to him from higher up, precisely because the production knew from fan responses that it would come up in any self-respecting interviewer’s questions. these are very basic PR procedures within the industry; willem, at the end of the day, is a paid actor on a show that is still in production and is bound very tightly by his contract. do not expect at any point that what he states about wtfock is fully his own opinion, as whatever he says will reflect on the show’s reputation. this is also, more importantly, why you cannot automatically associate the words and actions of a production with the words and actions of its actors; i seriously doubt that willem h or any of the other cast members personally agree with everything the show has done, but i can tell you with absolute certainty that they are contract-bound to not share their full opinions while the show is still in production. he nor any of the other actors wouldn’t be allowed to criticize writing decisions even if they wanted to. finally, please note that i am in no way trying to lessen the impact of willem answering this question in this way, fabricated or not; i am only trying to present all the facts as objectively as i can because i’ve seen 50 posts today worshipping him for giving answers that likely did not come from his own actual brain. i am asking for a little of the same objectivity in return from you all.
finishing on a personal-ish sidenote: but i have never been more aware than in this moment how completely at odds the druck and wtfock fandoms are, like i knew during the run of robbe’s season, from some replies i was getting on posts and anons in my inbox, that it seems impossible to some people that people can like (and criticize) both shows. but now in the wake of this article, it really goes to show that both sides are ready at a moment’s notice to fight each other over matters that do not need to be fought about. we can all just talk through things and try to see each other’s perspectives and, sometimes, yes, agree to disagree. for a show that preaches “everything is love” left and right, certain people really do not seem to take that message to heart. just to be clear, im not saying that you should lie down and take people’s bullshit, but i am saying that we should hear each other out more instead of jumping to conclusions based on thirdhand information.
in conclusion: no show/film/book/other form of media is perfect and we should be allowed to bring attention to their problematic aspects without being accused of blindly hating on the aforementioned medium overall.
tl;dr criticism ≠ hate, take what willem said with a grain of salt, the assault scene is not black and white, im fuckin exhausted

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
Tumblr media
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless /
Is your character popular in the fandom?  YES / NO / 50-50 (There’s a lot of love and a lot of hate, but I think many are actually pretty neutral on him too!)
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / 50-50 (I’d say he may be an... acquired taste? Of course a lot of people I know here find him sexie so it’s hard to say for certain, heh. We may just be the weirdos of the fandom :P )
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO
Are they underrated?  YES / NO (Not in terms of ability, but underrated for just how complex and multi-layered he is, I’d say)
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main character?  YES / NO /
Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO.
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL (I honestly think he’s a man of many reputations, both in canon and in fandom :’D)
How strictly do you follow canon?  —  I’m very much a ‘use the bones of what we got in canon and do my best to flesh them out’ kinda roleplayer. There are some things that can be taken too easily at face value that I see fit to build upon. For example, I think Jiraiya’s feelings on the prophecy and his relationship with Konoha is something that could be too easily played off as simplistic, or like they were immovable constants. But that’s unrealistic for a man of his years and many experiences, so I try to put myself in his emotional setting at various points in his life, and trace how his feelings and behaviours change, if that makes sense?
I try to avoid saying that any of the writing was straight up wrong because it’s disrespectful to the creator. But especially for Jiraiya, who had such a significant role to play in the narrative that it sometimes took precedence over his actual character, I do find some of his actions, and the way some interactions were handled in the canon to be a little OOC... so I’ll work with it and try to spin it in a way that I feel fits how he was characterised.
Basically, I’d say that I follow canon, but I like to enrich it in areas that were lacking detail or a nuanced view that took in all the surrounding events of the time. After Jiraiya’s canon death, of course, that’s when more divergence comes in to my portrayal... otherwise I wouldn’t be able to play any post-war scenarios! But the essence of his character is the same, which I try to keep as close to canon as possible.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.   —  A man of many experiences! You can bet that any topic that comes up, he’ll have some sort of amusing anecdote to share, or be able simply to talk shit about it. He's seen so much, and has a sensitive soul enough that he’ll give anyone a chance; he’s very open-minded and non-judgemental, and honestly is a humanitarian that wants to help those in need. Might leave your muse a little baffled as to how he could hold the status of ‘legend’, only to show it when they least expect it. You never quite know what you’re going to get with him: he’s generous and selfless, yet has many vices that seem selfish at times; he’s both a lover and a fearsome fighter; he’s immensely resilient at the same time as incredibly vulerable and damaged; he’s a himbo and a bit of a jock with the soul of a poet. Love him with no restraint and invite his love in return, and you’ll get not only a lover, but a devotee. Wears his heart on his sleeve... or does he? Chip away at him and find out!
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  The pervy, flirty, jokey schtick could get grating, or come across as disingenuous. In romantic situations, he’ll keep quiet about putting a label on whatever it is, and beneath his overall sweetness and devotion there may be an underlying reek of commitment issues and a fear of admitting he is afraid. He also has a habit of deflecting negativity in general, and playing things off as if they don’t matter or they’re a joke, making him actually rather a difficult person to get to know the heart of. One might feel as if they’re getting nowhere with him...
... Either that, or they get the complete opposite. Yes, as equally as he can be guarded, he can overshare like crazy, and has a tendency to become codependent with those he gets attached to, which is inconsistent with his free-spirited nature, and how adept he is at keeping others at arm’s length from his less sunny side. This inconsistency might make him seem unreliable—if the fact he’s always off who-knows-where doesn’t do the trick already.
What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  I’ve been a big fan of the Sannin ever since I first read the Deadlock, but being a very young person at the time I perhaps couldn’t relate enough to people who had experienced so much to do them justice in my teenage fic-writing endeavours, so I remained on the sidelines enjoying content by other people (there may also have been a little bit of ‘what the fuck, why do I dig the old dude so much’ denial in there haha). I’ve picked up and dropped my obsession with the series several times over the years, and my love for those three seemed to grow each time. They really are ‘the lost generation’, and as the sole survivors—alongside having a huge impact on the plot, how the shinobi world is shaped, and the three main protagonists—there’s a lot of juicy material there, a lot of emotional background, along with decades of history that basically goes untapped in the canon.
Anyway, I digress. Coming to the Naruto RPC for the first time around this time 2 years ago at the age of 25, I made this blog and my Deidara one on a whim, but focused on the latter at first. Villains were always comfortable territory for me in my other RP experiences, and I think it made me doubt that I could possibly do someone who is frankly a lovely guy any justice, no matter how much I loved him. I even had the intention of making him fully Akatsuki/Missing-Nin AU at first. Yeah. That’s how stuck in my villain/anti-hero zone I was! But, I think in the end, the fact he actually isn’t a two-dimensional typical ‘hero’ was something I chewed over and realised would be incredibly enriching to write, worth stepping out of my comfort zone for. And being a little more mature and less angst-ridden myself by that point, I found I could resonate with his feelings and ideals in a way that I know I couldn’t have as a teen... but I was still tentative.
Anyway, after leaving his blog empty for a bit (with its placeholder URL ‘frogdaddy’, which sadly got hoarded by someone else), I cosplayed the old bastard, along with my partner as Orochimaru. We’d been stanning that particular ship and talking about how great the Sannin are in general for quite some time by that point, but being casually in character for fun while drunk off my tits at a boat party, was a bit of an epiphanic moment. Not long after that, I threw myself right into writing this chaotic-good old bastard with gusto, and here I still am :’)
What keeps your inspiration going?  —  Taking breaks to recharge as and when I need to. Seriously. The death of all my other blogs has been pressure (mostly from myself) to be there and force myself to put out regular content, so I went into this not thinking that way and it’s really helped!
Of course, there’s also the fact that there simply seems to be no shortage of areas I can delve into with this guy. Again, it’s his age and all the missing years in canon... but I think it’s also how much love he has and his genuine eagerness to engage with others that makes him one of the most naturally bountiful muses I’ve played. Because honestly? Most of my villain muses wanted people to just fuck off :’D this guy is open to everything.
That aside, I guess I just gel with him more than I ever expected to. I’ve changed a lot as a person and gained more confidence since various areas of my life got better, and I really just vibed with this chill, funny, romantic, pervy, big-hearted energy. I enjoy angst, but my real love is peppering the serious and heartbreaking with romance and comedy—and isn’t that just befitting of him? Writing through his eyes also helps to keep my outlook positive, so that keeps me stuck on him as much as the seemingly limitless content potential.
And this is without even going into my cross-fandom AU ideas I have on the back-burner. Honestly, they’re there but I want to put a real effort into them while keeping his essence the same, which for some, involves brushing up on my lore!
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO.
Do you frequently write headcanons? YES / NO.
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO / RARELY. (depends on whether I get a flash of inspiration—which mostly comes with random asks that happen to stir up an idea for a scene, such as this one (NSFW warning))
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day?  YES / NO.
Are you confident in your portrayal?   YES / NO.
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO.
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / 50-50 /NO. (I tend not to take things personally but am also very passionate—call it my innate Leo-ness!)
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  Hmmm. I haven’t actually had any critique on my portrayal, so I’m not sure haha! I’d say if it’s constructive, then I’ll take it into account and consider it, especially if it’s a case where it helps me realise I’ve perhaps not gotten across what I intended to very well. But I’m also quite fond of my portrayal in its essence, so I may end up just thanking the person for their opinion and carry on as usual :P
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  Absolutely! I’ve had some wonderful ones recently and it’s exactly the kick I need to get ideas out, some of which I’ve had on the back-burner but not had a framework within which to write it without it getting derailed. I definitely appreciate a question that will keep me at least a little on-topic, otherwise if I go off on my own volition I really tend to... well, go off! Even if a question is a similar topic to something I’ve already done, it’s a good exercise for me to go back to the similar headcanon and see if I can build further on it, deviate, and link it to show what past thoughts I’ve been working with. A great way of keeping some consistency in my portrayal while making improvements, I find! And then of course I’ve had some questions that are entirely new morsels for thought, and it leads me to something new and fresh, which I greatly appreciate.
Basically, any questions at all, fire away! I may take a while but I will get to them eventually!
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  Yeah. I mean I think it’s just polite to present a reason as to why not, instead of just being like ‘this is wrong/a bad take’ or whatever. Source material is down to personal interpretation, so if I draw different ideas from it to another person after discussion, then we can simply agree to disagree on it.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  They are welcome to disagree with me I guess? So long as they’re respectful and don’t then treat me as if my interpretation is ‘AU’ or talk about ‘canon Jiraiya’ as if he’s obviously a different entity to my own, then disagree away. But if prompted enough, know that I will most likely defend my portrayal with what I consider to be justification from the source material :P I did pay close attention to it, after all, and I do consider my portrayal to align well with it.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  Depends on the nature of it and the conduct, really? Like, people are allowed to dislike characters. I myself find a couple of characters pretty annoying or don’t particularly care for them (granted, usually it’s in a love-to-hate or simply a ‘this character doesn’t interest me’ way), but that doesn’t affect how I behave towards the RPer of a character. It’s just manners, really. People tend to RP characters because they like them, so why would you take negativity right to their doorstep, in this space they’ve made as an expression of enjoyment for, and to develop said character?
There’s been some people who admitted to me that they didn’t care much for Jiraiya, but then began to like him more with my portrayal and that’s more than fine; I take it as the highest compliment in fact. It’s also the kind of open-minded attitude I like to have with portrayals of characters I don’t necessarily like or have much interest in, because by and large, people do tend to add more depth and nuance than the busy and character-packed canon allowed.
However, if it’s the type of hate that’s got its own devoted circle of bitter bitches, who seem to use so much energy hating a character... then please, don’t engage me. Doesn’t matter who the character is, don’t expect me to follow/keep following your negative ass if it’s constant on the dash—and if the target character is any of the Sannin then frankly I’ll have probably blocked/blacklisted in a heartbeat. The ‘critical’ views of them tend to diminish them as humans, diminish the context and events that surrounded their choices, and in a way that I find is a gross double standard compared to what people will allow other (read: young, attractive, fandom faves, ‘babies’ or ‘beans’) to get away with and excuse the behaviours of. I don’t need that kinda negative energy sullying my hobby, nor do I need moral superiority that isn’t applied consistently across the board.
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  Absolutely! I meticulously fret and check, and cringe when I get a reply and happen to spot errors while rereading what I wrote before it! I edit a lot but don’t always pick up on errors, so I’m more than happy to have it pointed out. Chances are, I’ll be far more brutal to myself about it than anyone else would be!
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  Overall, yeah. I’m not possessive or clingy (I don’t think) and don’t expect the world from people, nor for them to focus on or favour me or be super fast. I just expect the same respect in return. Having said that, I will express it when I don’t like something or it makes me uncomfortable, provided we’re familiar enough, because if we’re strangers I’d feel like I was coming across as entitled to your energy and emotional labour. I do my best to be diplomatic about it though, and rest assured it doesn’t mean I’m forever mad at you or turned off in any way just because I have a small grievance. I just find that being honest with each other rather than letting things pile up and fester makes a friendship more solid, and basically more genuine and long-lasting.
That’s about it, congrats for filling out!

Maybe music media should write an article about what’s going on and how this seems to be career suicide. Might wake up his team.
This, my dear anon and friends, becomes a very tricky, slippery slope.
There’s opinion and there’s fact. And there’s a whole lotta grey mess in between. Right now, I think we’re all wading in that damn grey mess.
There’s no hard data like ticket sales numbers or what have you that can back that up at the moment. IDK what streaming numbers are looking like but given that everyone’s home, it’s going to have a natural tick up overall. Despite factions of fandom saying we done with you boy. There’s still general mass pop that may take a listen or get him on a playlist and then venture to his own stuff. Can’t say track merch sales because economy being in the tank alone would bring that down to minimal.
What they have right now to go off of are social media impact/social sentiment and follower numbers. I’ve seen a few posts and rumblings about here saying his follower numbers are dropping, TBH I don’t follow them that closely to be able to say I, yes or no to that. What I can say is social sentiment and chatter is glaringly polarizing. The noise after iHeart concert alone made my stomach turn and I don’t work for this one. Like you don’t need to always combat or answer, believe me, there are some instances where silence is golden. This though? IDK man, I would be looking at this a little more carefully if I was in his team’s shoes. Real, fake, in between or whatever it is.
Are we seeing it affect “bookings”? And I use that loosely right now given what’s going on. Not really, not yet - what we’re seeing is more of the package deal getting pushed forward and folks are taking it because that’s what they're being offered is my guess? Again, I’m not in on these conversations so I have NO idea. And is it his team offering them? Her team offering them? Combo? Solo offerings and these outlets/organizations are asking for them together? I DO NOT KNOW. Believe me, I wish I did.
We got that TIME piece that was a solo which, pure PR pro gushing here, considering who they tapped for solo pieces on that microsite, a huge deal. It was personal, it resonated, yes it was what we heard before but we’re fandom, for the general TIME reader they probably haven’t from him. Despite the slippy sly product placement, but all in all a big 2 thumbs up and the right thing to be doing now. That gave me a slight glimmer of hope.
And then we had the CBS This Morning preview...
Global is also doing some pedaling back if you’ve noticed too - folks that were initially billed as solo that are now doing duets/group efforts, there’s new key art making its way around to make up for the noise they were getting on that. HOWEVER, I DIGRESS.
So, yeah not sure other than conjecture, assumptions, a writer’s own interpretations and rumors what they could base a piece off of. The lack thereof of hard facts that would make sense for them to write something that wouldn’t be thought of as tabloid shit or open themselves up for a libel/slander suit are slim. So you wouldn’t get a reputable outlet like a Billboard or a Rolling Stone or Variety getting caught writing this. It would be like a STAR or Life & Style, the supermarket tabloids which carry very little real weight.

Orders of Magnitude
Or in other words, the post I said I was going to do about Elements and Personalities, for all you element-loving people out there.
WARNING: this post is LOOOOOOOONG, and came about from a mish-mash of Tarot, Astrology, Wiccan mythology, Rosicrucianism (a mish-mashed sect of Judaism, but with heavy Zoroastrian influence) Zoroastrianism, Mesapotamian demonology, and personal experiences with Paganism and various Spiritualist people. I have done FOUR DAYS worth of reasearch on this, and originally spelled all of it out in this post; however, TUmblr has a dumb word count limit so I had to cut out a good 7, admittedly boring, paragraphs on my reasearch completely out of it -- which was actually probably a good thing.
Now, as you can imagine, I hit a few bumps in the road once I got to Azazel, Beelzebub, and Samael; Beelzebub especially. Hence, he will be at the very bottom, in spite of being nowhere near the top; yes, that means I’m starting from the lower tiers of the heirarchy and working my way up.
1. Earth:
Earth elementals are strong, body, mind and soul. Once they’ve made up their mind, there is no changing it. Earth elementals are notorious for being stubborn and hard headed, but they are less known for their ability to be kind, nurturing and extremely loyal. They find a cause and stick to it, which can create a situation ripe for them to be conflicted with themselves, causing their confidence to rise and fall, though it seldom falls far. They are also quite notorious for having a hearty patience with things they are familiar with, and a shorter fuse with things that they don’t intuitively understand. They tend to be tradition-oriented, and are cautious to outright resistant to anything ‘new’.
Tumblr media
2. Rot/Death
The Death arcana is a surprisingly positive one. Death means an end to things, both good and bad, and so death is not always such a bad thing. Decay and Rot, as well, are an end, and therefore the start of a new beginning. In light of this, death/rot can be said to be a remarkably carefree personality, who takes things at face value and seldom deeper. Death is a creature of conflicting self interests, with the ability to be both kind and cruel, and while they are steady, and therefore reliable, they tend to live life on their own terms, at their own pace, and tend not to dwell on things for too long. What’s in the past is in the past, and life is fleeting. They tend to be loyal to only a handful of very close friends, but are nonetheless friendly with everyone. That said, a creature of the Death personality is not one worth crossing, as they are notorious for having a cold, calculating kind of anger and are frequently spiteful. Their reputation for having a level head can get them into trouble, though, since they come off as careless or lacking remorse in dire situations.
Tumblr media
Rot is the effort before death, however, a bridge between what is alive and what is dead. Rot probably would be best personified using eldritch myths  as inspiration, denoting a personality which, unlike death, can hang onto and hold stark grudges, and while steady in their anger, are probably more overt about it, if still passive aggressive. Decay, like death, is constant, and therefore reliable, but also wildly unpredictable; small things can impact decay as an event quite considerably. Rot is also sometimes associated with greed, given that it “consumes” life, which suits Astaroth as a demon quite well.
3. Water
Water elementals are probably the most relatable for the widest majority of humans. Water is the element of emotion, and consequently water types tend to be quite sensitive, for the good and the bad. Do not forget, however, that water has multiple states, making water types extremely adaptable and ‘fluid’ in the way they live life, going with the flow of things wherever they may go. Passive as they are, water types are harder to hurt than you would think, since they tend to roll with the punches as they come. That said, everyone has their limit, and when a water elemental reaches it, they become frigid and aloof, or else they boil with rage, and there is no in between. Water types also, being emotionally sensitive as they are, tend to be either extremely empathetic, or else completely remorseless, depending on the depth of their heart; after all, not all water is deep. Some water, however, is defiantly deep, and very, very dark. Water types are not just adaptable, but highly variable as well, displaying traits that are on an ever shifting spectrum; this makes water types highly unpredictable when meeting for the first time. But just as a river likes to keep to the course it has always taken, so water types are highly traditionally minded and usually steady, though they are known to change their minds with surprisingly little pressure, and have a unique ability to bond very deeply to people, places, and things. Water types are also undoubtedly the most self-aware, often acutely aware of themselves and their effect on other people; this can lead them to be quite self punishing. Passively tolerant of almost anything, it can be easy for a water type to find themselves getting run over or taken advantage of.
Tumblr media
4. Fire
Fire is the element of passion -- and by passion, I mean the archaic meaning of the word, that is “powerful, raw emotions”. Fire is also a very relatable type, but unlike water, they are often very confident and undeterred by criticism or any kind of blow to their ego, since they have the ability, and spunk, to bite back instantaneously. Their ability to be quick and witty belies their fragility though; while fire types are very ambitious, they also do not tend to react well to failure to achieve their ambitions, and due to their outgoing nature, can be prone to loneliness. Fire is also sometimes considered the element of pride, as well as wrath - Fire types have a notoriously violent temper; even if it is short lived, it can be brutally intense, taking the lieu of either an explosion or a slow, hotter, burn. They have the ability to be very warm, to the point of being absurdly selfless, but in the same stroke can be exceedingly selfish as well, and have a very unpredictable nature overall. Wild and confident, they can be, and are often portrayed to be, quite cocky, which against a stronger opponent can become their downfall.
Tumblr media
5. Spirit/Air
Ah, the contradictions here.
Air is the element of freedom, and I suppose spiritualism is too. Freedom is paramount to the air element, as stagnation is literally toxic to them. They must move, breathe, be active and most of all have few or no strings holding them back. That isn’t to say that air elementals can’t be loyal, but they often hold loyalty separate from responsibility. In fact, if there is any elemental personality that can hold a bird in one hand and a stone in the other, it is air. They often are capable of holding multiple ideas or correlated things separate in their mind, and it can, in the extreme, cause them to have a very biased interpretation of things. Nonetheless, if you’re looking for a socialite, air is your element -- they love to do, never holding still, and are usually very good at making acquaintances and generally getting along with everyone. However, air is also deeply private, and is reluctant to share personal things with others; having many friends for support, and few friends for close things is just the way they like it. Air is also the element of pride, and air elements can  be portrayed as...well, kind of air-headed. Impulsive, is the word I would use; they don’t like to stop and think, preferring action over words. Nonetheless, even the wind must calm down eventually, and air elements can be quite introspective and wise when they want to be. Their temperament is one of a fast-paced, impatient, and action-oriented individual, whose anger is typically very brief but very strong.
Tumblr media
Spirit is something that has a very vague-at-best interpretation. Most often I hear Spiritualism described as a strong will or want for something.
Taking that into account, and with what we have seen of Azazel’s clones, as well as his kin, I would say that Spirit as an element is a manifestation of Willpower; the thing which gives life purpose, the drive that keeps all living things, well, living.
6. Time/Space, and the Devil
Now, the closest thing to Samael I could find was the Devil card/arcana. Devil arcana is one personifying -- well, actually, NOT the Devil. In fact, the Devil card is arguably one of the best cards you could recieve, provided it’s not inverted. People who are of a Devil type are upbeat, outgoing, and love, love, love to be the centers of attention. They are incredibly self motivated and independent, but also have innumerable connections through their often rich social lives.
That said, the Devil is a two-faced card; in one hand, the Devil represents outgoing passion and a strong, independent will; in the other, however, Devil’s enjoy their time to themselves, and are typically unconcerned with matters not directly affecting them.
The Devil inverse is one of the worse cards you could ever get, shy of the ten of swords; it’s a signal of impending calamity in personal life, one you got yourself into, but which you will struggle to escape.
Devil’s are adaptable, highly ambitious, and and incredibly devoted to whatever they do, but often are willing to set aside the needs of others to benefit their own. They are “big picture” thinkers and because of that can miss out on smaller details. They also can develop an over-inflated ego, or worse a superiority complex, when they are given too much due. (they’re not known for being humble).
Tumblr media
Now, Time/Space element -- that’s a tricky story. Some mythologies do have Time lords (and even Time angels) but the details on their personalities are lacking. From what I garner, if Time/Space could be personified, it would be simultaneously fluid and ever-changing, as well as very vast and very consistent. Consistently chaotic, one might say. Time angels, in particular, seem very contradictory; in one way, they benefit mankind, in another, they torment them.
7. Light, and the Judgement arcana
Aka, the “order of the angels”. The Judgement card is one well known for being the only Tarot card to feature an Archangel, which is usually Gabriel, (the angel of the Moon, ironically) or Michael (the angel of the Sun, also ironic) holding a trumpet, or in some cases a spear.
This is meant to symbolize, obviously, a calling to a higher power; which is perhaps why people who align with the Judgment arcana are very, very ambitious.
Ambitious, and often polarized - there is always two categories that any situation, person, or circumstance can fall into with these people; Good, and Bad. Righteous, and Blasphemous. Divine and Devil incarnate. There is always a black and a white, and Judgment’s often have a hard time switching between the two once their mind is made up.
That isn’t to say that they are all bad people; Judgements are very well known for being major figures in history and mythology alike, doing either very great or very terrible deeds. Due to their polarized views, their actions similarly take on either a good or bad light. What matters is that to them, their ideology will always be the right one. One fairly consistent trait among these types is their refusal to admit defeat or wrongdoing, which can be both a great and a terrible thing.
Because of this, Judgments are very apt at coming up with justifications for their and other’s behavior -- but also a lack thereof, where those who are in the “wrong” are concerned. You will never be able to convince a Judgment that they are the wrong ones here, and any attempt at explanation will be taken offence to as an ‘excuse’. They earn their name - often concerning themselves with not how others think of them, but how others think of their ideas. Once considered to be on the “black” side of the spectrum, however, you are as good as dead to them, since they value loyalty -- not to themselves, but usually to their cause-- to be tantamount to how they judge you as a person.
Tumblr media
Light is an element that I actually didn’t have to scavenge for. Light has a definite association, all over the world -- from wrathful sun gods to gentle, nurturing mothers; there isn’t a more universal deity in human history than one which features light at the center of their being.
Because it is so universal, you would think that it had very concrete associations -- and you’d be partially correct. But such global coverage means tons of tons of TONS of variations; you wouldn’t necessarily compare Horus to Amaterasu, after all.
That said, one thing all light deities symbolize regardless of where is hope. Hope for a brighter future, a better ending, a full belly, or a tender touch. Hope for good fortune, grace or humanity in general.
Kindness is often associated with Light as well, as is gentleness. Lucifer himself, in the New Testament, is described as an entity which “emits a gentle, warm light that is cold when touched” (paraphrasing). Light is alluring, because light is hope and compassion --
But be not deceived. Light is also a symbol of cunning, of deception and toxic self-righteousness (Sin of Pride, in the case of biblical Lucifer). Horus is a good example -- yes, he is a ‘good’ god, but he is also full of himself and well known for tricking other gods with his quick wit. (I know scholars often attribute Lucifer to a long-dead King, but I do honestly wonder if his mythology wasn’t borrowed from Egyptian gods as well, specifically Horus and Ra).
*8. Beelzebub and Insects/The Lord of the Flies:
Beelzebub is the only one that really doesn’t fit here. Doesn’t help that we know absolutely nothing about him other than his rank and his title.
Insect, in the generalized, common-use sense, could be anything with legs and an exoskeleton. Why, though, do insects get special attention?
Well there’s the fact that around 2/3 of the animal kingdom is made up of insects, if you count by number of species, possibly even higher. Arthropods, if you include them here, were the first things to walk on land, and they still exist here in the form of pill bugs and millipedes.
But I think Beelzebub is a manifestation of a very interesting concept as regards creepy-crawly things -- because humans have a deep, instinctive distrust of anything with legs and an exoskeleton from a young age. Yet insects have long, long been companions of mankind, in the form of now extinct homo-sapiens specific fleas and still-extant homo-sapiens specific lice. They also have a very good reputation for being pests.
That being said, is it so surprising that these feelings could manifest into the shape of a demon? As to what sort of personality he might have, I couldn’t really say. Mythologically Beelzebub is very belligerent and brutish, or else very cunning and cruel.
Well, that wraps it up for today. :) if you’ve any questions or comments, feel free to reply!

Grey’s Anatomy 15x16
*Spoiler Alert*
I could write a book about my feels. And I basically did. So please don’t hate me. Only vaguely in order; mostly just me babbling.
It’s all under the cut to hide the spoilers. But it’s long; you’ve been warned. 😏
Cool dream sequence with Ellis, Maggie, Amelia and Zola! Also so interesting connection throughout the episode about Mer getting a message from her Mom in a dream. I like how she embraced that!
My first thought seeing her jolt awake was why was she alone in that bed! Merluca has my mind in the gutter.
Schmidt and Nico are pretty adorable. I know they are getting a lot of positive attention and it’s well deserved. They aren’t my OTP but I’m happy they are around and I’m happy they are happy.
Pretty cute Merluca scene (sooner in episode than I thought). He brought her coffee. She asked about his Dad. It was very normal. I wanted more and I wanted better kissing. But I’m greedy. It was still cute though. The way she glowed and got flustered after he kissed her gave me LIFE. Oh my god.
The preview kiss was not what I expected. It was more awkward and less intense than the preview made it out to be. But she seemed to like it, so… okay fine.
Maggie’s arc was different. I’d never considered that people didn’t know who her birth parents are. Richard didn’t react great but I’m glad they worked it out in the end. I’m happy Maggie got to own her story, but it would’ve been better if it was on purpose, and on her terms - so she could properly honour both sets of parents that made her who she is.
Helen Karev is my favourite human, with her wanting to reorganize the hospital library and her gender neutral hats and the light she brings. She’s just good people. And I’m so happy that she’s doing better. And I’m so happy we get to spend this time with her and watch her relationship with Alex and Jo.
Jolex is great. Love them. It was cool seeing Jo’s arc and how she approached the baby topic from start to finish
Seeing Deluca interact with his Dad was interesting. I have larger opinions on this that will merit another post. But overall, I do not think his Dad was the catalyst not the root of the tension - I think Andrew’s relationship with Mer clouded his judgement and there is proof here that he has some stuff to work out. So his Dad may have brought it to the surface, but it would’ve been there regardless. It’s just unfortunate that the timing means it’s getting wrapped up in Deluca’s family drama too. I’m looking forward to hearing other people’s thoughts on it after they’ve watched. Other takeaways:
Their Dad talking about Carina and their Mom is upsetting and unfortunate
Deluca defending his sister and Mom is sweet (I ache for him. ugh. I want to give their whole family a hug)
I’ve watched the scene enough times and I get really worked up about how his Dad brings up Mer (as if it’s to undermine all the nice things he just said about Deluca and how he’s “proud” but it’s like it’s conditional. It’s very strange logic (which yes, could be related to his mental state or could be his personality): She’s beyond you and you need to do this with me BECAUSE the woman you’re dating is so brilliant. I absolutely HATE the implication that he’s not enough to deserve her on his own. And there’s no way Mer thinks that).
Alex and Mer are so sweet. I love their friendship. Like when she was trying to get him to read her face. He was being so dense. Lol
I don’t really want to talk about Owen right now cuz I have nothing positive to say about him. But I was mega happy for Amelia. I hope she continues to find clarity and get her happy. (I think I actually ship her and Link which they definitely planted seeds for… so if she’s ready to move on I’ll be here for that. But no rush. In defense of the two of them, they are both silly but I think they can also hold space for the struggles they’ve been through. I like the potential for balance with them. Amelia deserves that! Or she deserves to be happy on her own. Whatever she wants; but she definitely needs to get away from people who throw her addiction in her face, can’t check themselves, and call her unlovable!)
I really REALLY enjoyed the dynamic of Carina and Mer in this episode. I liked that Mer had her back and could really empathize with what Carina is dealing with. It’s not easy what she’s taken on and what’s she’s seeing her Dad through… not to mention that every interaction she has with her Dad or even when he speaks of her it’s quite disrespectful and even downright cruel. I really feel for her and I wish her brother could see the pain she is in. Come on Deluca!
Mer touching her shoulder in comfort and Carina being receptive and open to Mer’s advice and compassion was really beautiful. And I like that Mer’s relationship with Andrew did not get in the way of that connection / sisterhood. Mer definitely knows what Carina is going through and maybe Mer could be a bridge to help Andrew see that too (next episode. Please? Please? I just need them in a room talking things out, okay!)
Side note: was anyone else a bit surprised at what side Deluca took? When they were yelling in Italian I half thought it was opposite stances. That’s when I realized his Dad really did get in his head and this *probably* has more to do with him and Mer than it fully has to do with his relationship with his Dad. And that makes me so sad, because I thought we’d dealt with any lingering insecurities Andrew had in 15x12. As long as they actually address it, I’m fine. If they make that kind of connection (that Mer is “beyond” Deluca) just to IGNORE it I won’t be happy.
After having just rewatched 15x12 I’m a bit confused by how quickly Deluca changed his tune about his Dad. I get that there is a lot of emotions and baggage but he seemed pretty adamant that it IS complicated. But on the other hand, I can see that they may be playing off the concept that his Dad shows up seemingly fine and Deluca reverts a bit to the childhood he didn’t get. So maybe it is wishful thinking on his part. Or maybe his Dad is actually fine. But I’m not thinking that’s the case.
A big takeaway regarding Merluca is that I feel they jumped the gun on such an intense, and emotional storyline that directly impacts both of them (or at least, that they are both wrapped up in - since Mer has the ear of Alex and Andrew wanted her support too.. ) And can we also please remember she owns the friggin hospital and is quite tied to its reputation personally and professionally, so she has a stake in what happens there and she’s in a really tricky situation!
Andrew’s judgement was clouded. For sure. His dad baiting him with Meredith’s success was like watching a train crash in slow motion. Ugh. I’m a bit surprised he ate that up so easily. No. She’s not beyond you. She’s not above you. Stop that insecurity crap. I want to believe this is just about his Dad - right or wrong choice, I want for his motivation to be solely about his Dad. But I fear that a lot of it was sparked by his Dad getting under his skin and awakening an insecurity he has about his relationship with Mer. NO! Lock that down man!

Rise to the Sun, and Fall into the Waves: BNHA Arc Thoughts
Hey, so this post is probably going to be even less organized than most of my others; but when I get an idea I have to write it down or else it will explode out of me and dissipate into nothing.
This idea surrounds the present Villain Arc of Boku no Hero Academia, and how my mind can't seem to stop coming to the conclusion that Hawks will finally get accepted into the League by the end of it—even if only tentatively—and that this will inevitably bring Hawks into checkmate. Ending with his loss, and one of Shigaraki's final wins before society starts to crumble.
This thesis has many components that convince me of this, and I'm not quite sure which point to start off with. So, if you're willing to dive into the tangled hellscape of my mind; feel free to read.
1. Parallels...There's always parallels
I am certainly not the first person to point out the parallels rampant in this arc between Deku and Shigaraki; amplifying their roles as foils.
There are too many posts to link, but they point out topics such as:
-Shigaraki's hair growing longer to resemble the younger brother of All for One, and Deku's hairs spikes looking a bit too similar to All for One's for comfort.
-Spinner's narration pointing out that Shigaraki both looks like a child chasing his dreams and is constantly smiling; two distinguishable aspects of Deku's character (also a reference to Nana who seemed to start the whole idea of “a hero must smile).
-Both characters seem to have impossible goals, but the convictions to turn it into reality.
-And even in the previous arc, Bakugo points out the similarities between One for All and All for One.
-Plus, that even ignores the already present parallels of red shoes, successors, a hand reaching out...
However, these parallels are only general and I wondered if there was any specific parallels to any other arcs to predict just what kind of win the League of Villains will get.
Cause we know that the League will come out on top. This is an arc where the central focus is the League, and the overall arc of the story arcs is called “Rise of the Villains Saga”.
There are some notable parallels to the Overhaul arc with Shigaraki's being manipulated relating to Eri's manipulation by Chisaki; the protagonists aiming to rescue a person being tortured by the Villain group, and the last Villain vs Villain exchange was in the Overhaul arc.
However, the situation the League, and thus Shigaraki is in would not line up with Deku's place because the League already had roles in this arc.
So the parallels would likely come from an arc without much Villain interference or none at all.
And would you have it? The most recent arc had no villains in it whatsoever. Also, there was the slightest possible hint that Deku might get a bit more power with a recent development.
That being the promise of SEVEN FREAKING QUIRKS.
With a major jump in potential for Deku, to keep the footing evenly balanced, Shigaraki needs more power he can tap into. Something that is severely lacking at the beginning of the arc with 6 broke twenty-somethings struggling to survive.
Though, power has already been promised to Shigaraki through Gigantomachia and high-end Noumus. As long as he proves his worth, he could end this arc with an overpowered pile of quirks, just like Deku.
And that's not the sole parallel with the Joint Training Arc.
After all, which arc has the protagonist of said arc pulled into conflict through forces beyond their control against an opposing group lead by an eccentric guy desiring to bring down the protagonists in front of watching eyes to prove their own worth and devalue the—admittedly—overrated public perspective of the protagonists?
Is it
a) Class 1-A
b) The League of Villains
c) Both
d) Get to the point already and never use this style in posts ever again.
If you said c), that's right. And if you said d) just comment and this will never rear its head again.
Regardless, the Liberation Army has notable parallels with Class 1-B that form similar circumstances for the protagonists of each arc to overcome. I mean, even the battlefields are both urban or industrial environments—though that may be a stretch.
Yet, that leaves one major element of the Joint Training Arc unrepresented. That being Shinsou. One of Deku's other big wins from this arc besides the promise of more quirk arsenal and physically winning his battle was becoming on better terms with Shinsou and his acceptance into the hero course in the recent future.
So, who would represent Shinsou. Gigantomachia is a character primed to join the League before the end of the arc, and he has been previous introduced in the story before this arc like Shinsou. However, Shinsou actually interacted with Class 1-A before the arc, while the League only met Gigantomachia a few chapters ago. Bringing him over to their side wouldn't hold the same emotional impact as Shinsou.
But, you know who would? Hawks.
Hawks like Shinsou has already been set up in prior arcs to join both the League of Villains and the hero course respectively. They both also held a detached stance to the groups they would join, and they are commonly associated by others with the other side of hero vs villain conflict that they would join.
In simpler words, while Shinsou has been labelled to have a villainous quirk and is joining the hero course; Hawks is well-known as a talented hero—even back in his youth—but needs to join the League.
2. The Story Must Go On
Hawks had been revealed to be trying to join the League over 30 chapters ago with no updates on how well he is infiltrating the League.
With double-agent missions, time is always of the essence; especially considering the high-end Noumus and Gigantomachia that will be given as a power-up after the League's coming victory.
Plus, if any major developments need to happen to the League, now is the time. Since the story is diving so much into the Villains, we probably won't get a good look at their progress until a couple arcs later; which could easily take a half-year or later if no updates are given.
Furthermore, Dabi has finally been reconnected with the League in the latest chapter (ch 224), and considering the recruitment of Hawks was orchestrated solely by him; that is the best channel we have to receive new information on that front.
Essentially it boils down to Chekhov's gun.
The Law of Chekhov's Gun—dramatic principle that states that every element in a story must be necessary, and irrelevant elements should be removed; elements should not appear to make "false promises" by never coming into play (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov's_gun).
If the double-agent plot with Hawks doesn't go anywhere, it would be seen as irrelevant and should have never appeared in the first place.
Additionally, Hawks being brought into the League would be a double-edged sword that both adds to the wins of Shigaraki, while keeping a looming threat of betrayal that the heroes could exploit for an opening.
3. The Puppet Now Pulls the Strings
Shigaraki has proved in his most recent appearances that he knows how to take the motivations and actions of others, and manipulate it to result in him reaping the most rewards.
Before All for One's incarceration (the USJ arc, the Hero Killer arc, and the Bakugo Rescue arc) Shigaraki does not demonstrate this ability to consider anybody else's opinions or desires other than his master's; doing whatever the hell he wants instead because he doesn't need to manipulate situations. All for One already does it to give Shigaraki room to grow.
The USJ arc had Shigaraki releasing the Noumus just to kill All Might for no other apparent reason than: “I want to kill All Might.”
The Hero Killer arc presented a prime opportunity for Shigaraki to manipulate the situation. Releasing the Noumus would end the career of Stain and taking credit for his influence would attract new members in droves. Yet, the minute new recruits walked in the doors praising Stain's ideals, Shigaraki got pissed that Stain was getting all the attention and nearly turned away Toga and Dabi.
Then, the Forest Invasion/Bakugo Rescue arc do not demonstrate any evidence of Shigaraki bending the situation to the highest potential. But, once his master is locked in prison, things change.
The Overhaul arc provides an excellent example of how Shigaraki played everyone so he could gain all the rewards from the match. When the Eight Precepts of Death come up to him, asking to borrow Twice and Toga, he agrees—coaxing both of them into it buy promising revenge for the death of Big Sis Mag. By the end of the arc, Shigaraki is riding high; with his opponents brought down by both the League and heroes—reducing his workload—and sending a message that you don't try to screw over the League, got revenge for the death of a member, gained the power of quirk-erasing bullets, and strengthened the dedication of Toga and Twice since they acted out of their own desires that happened to bring more benefits for Shigaraki.
Now, the current villain arc is shaping up to re-demonstrate this new skill learned for All for One. Shigaraki is taking advantage of the desires of Twice to rescue Giran, and the Liberation Army wanting to destroy the League to cement their own power to defeat his opponents with Gigantomachia, rescue their broker, defeat Gigantomachia to bring him over to the side of the League—dragging the research of the Doctor along, will likely grow the reputation of the League, and reaffirm his skills and conviction to the doubting members. All of this while applying others agendas to fit in his.
Why does this matter?
Well, a lot of this section relies on the theory that Dabi is a Todoroki. But then again, it's basically canon already.
Cause a big question is why did Dabi choose Hawks to recruit to the League? He had many other options he could have picked, and even burned what could have been possible recruits to death without a second thought. So, why take the risk of the No 2. Pro Hero.
Well, when we talk about characters having their own agenda, Dabi is an example that would appear in the dictionary. Countless of times, he exhibited that he doesn't give a sh*t about League activities; disappearing for months at a time and launching the attack on Endeavour without any known authorization from Shigaraki.
Whether or not you consider the Dabi is a Todoroki theory canon or you want to wait for official confirmation, you have to admit that Dabi has a grudge against Endeavour, and what appears to be pro heroes in general. If he really wanted to give a middle finger to Endeavour and hero society as a whole; using the No 2. hero allied with villains to bring down the No 1. hero would cause chaos and hurt the others even more than if he cremated Endeavour himself.
Convincing Hawks to become a villain himself would be the best case scenario for Dabi since it would hit Endeavour the most, corrupting Hawks' public image would still work well to enact his petty vengeance.
And if this were to occur, Shigaraki could capitalize by drawing in Hawks with their similar origins. Both being raised with a goal in mind from a young age, swept up into something they don't even know is right because they don't know anything else; with the League offering freedom from the cage of hero society.
His intuitive nature, strong quirk, and connections to the heroes while it lasts would also be great assets.
But most of all, once Dabi enacts his revenge through Hawks betrayal, Shigaraki can sit back in his lair, remove Father from his face, and give a genuine smile to himself. Because his goals of exposing the fragility of hero society and destroying everything have just had the first domino pushed by someone else; and all he has to do is sit back and watch it burn.
Maybe this make sense, maybe it does not. Will I regret this later? Yes, yes I will.
Yet, I point anyways with the promise of new theories in the upcoming days.

Demonstrating E-A-T: Tactics to Use and Avoid in Order to Improve Search Visibility
Amusive Digital’s Lily Ray discusses the prevalent trends among core update losers. As well as the strategies she does help her clients improve their E-A-T.
The rivalry for site traffic, users’ attention, and trust are always increasing, and individuals. Now have more options than ever before for finding the information or items they need. That’s why, as a measure of content relevancy and quality, search engines like Google emphasize expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness (E-A-T).
Demonstrating a high level of E-A-T not only increases your chances of ranking higher for relevant queries. But it also protects your site from losing visibility after a core upgrade and informs people that your material, and by extension. Your brand is a trustworthy source of information.
Lily Ray, the senior director, SEO & head of organic research at Amsive Digital, discussed the tactics that she and her team have identified as being harmful to your E- A-T, as well as ways to bolster it for search engines and users alike, during her session at SMX Advanced titled “Demystifying major algorithm updates in 2021: Where is search headed?”
Practices that can hurt your E-A-T
“One of the overall themes I’ve noticed in my research is the increasing prominence of E-A-T, particularly for Your Money or Your Life [YMYL] websites,” Ray explained. “On the other hand, we have essentially eliminated fake news, pseudoscience, clickbait [and] sites that violate scientific and medical consensus, as Google makes apparent in many of its documents.”
While you may not be writing materials that contradict science. Low E-A-T content can be found across all industries. A handful of the characteristics of such content are listed below.
Omitting attribution and evidence.
Would you trust financial or medical advice from someone who claims to be an expert? But won’t back it up with evidence or reveal their name and credentials? Publishing articles without naming an author or including a byline with their credentials is the internet version of that.
Tumblr media
Sites that omit this information, particularly in YMYL categories like finance, civics, news, and health, are “just making a lot of bold claims without necessarily saying where they got that information from,” Ray said, adding that “there’s no proof or evidence of the claims that they’re making on the site.”And in other situations, the content or counsel they’re delivering throughout the content is downright hazardous. Which is something Google is firmly against.”
Thin content, duplicate content, and doorway pages.
“Another issue my team and I observed while doing this type of research and working with our clients is that a lot of sites that have been impacted by core upgrades over the last several years tend to have a lot of thin, duplicate, or doorway pages,” Ray explained.
Users are likely to have a poor experience on these pages. These strategies may be used by businesses to save time by reusing a page template or to alter ranking signals. These landing pages, for whatever reason, fail to offer the material that people clicked through from the search results. Eroding your brand’s credibility and visibility for search.
Generalist content.
While creating a range of material on many topics may help you appeal to a wider audience. It’s probable that you’re not expressing a high level of experience or authority in any of them.
Tumblr media
“Another thing I’ve seen is that these generalist sites that are jack-of-all-trades but master of none. A lot of these types of sites are on the decline,” Ray said. We can notice a reduction in visibility for DIY sites. Which are generally low-stakes themes, in the data above. For businesses looking to improve their E-A-T. If you’re posting YMYL content. It’s ideal to create content that relates to your topic area.
Unmoderated UGC.
User-generated content (UGC) can be beneficial to your SEO. But it can also harm your E-A-T and ranks if left unchecked.
Tumblr media
“One thing we’ve observed on a lot of the badly impacted sites is that they don’t have a good hold on their comments, or on user-generated content throughout the site,” Ray explained. “In some cases, we’ve seen people provide a lot of really sensitive information [in their comments], or perhaps they’re giving really awful medical advice. “So if you’re focusing on E-A-T and people come in and leave personal information or stuff that defies medical consensus or things like that. It can really work against you,” she continued.
Undisclosed affiliate links.
Affiliate links help certain businesses make cash that supports their content, and they can keep doing so without jeopardizing their E-A-T by declaring the nature of these relationships.
Tumblr media
If your affiliate links appear to be internal links to other material, as is often the case with YMYL content, search engines and people may take issue. “If you don’t make it plain that these are affiliate links throughout the material, and if you use instructional. Your Money or Your Life pages really urge the customer to buy things. “With the product reviews upgrade, and even with the core update in June of 2021. It looks to be the case that Google is really ramping up the importance of strong E-A-T and good usability on affiliate sites and product review sites,” Ray added.
Ways to convey more expertise, authority, and trustworthiness
There are several ways to show search engines and viewers that your material is well researched, accurate, and that your brand can be trusted. In addition to avoiding the tactics outlined above.
Tumblr media
Update, remove, redirect or consolidate your content.
Marketers might get so caught up in developing fresh content that they forget that quantity isn’t always better than quality.
Ray described the job her teams do for their clients as “updating, removing, redirecting, or consolidating underperforming content when necessary.”By incorporating these tasks into your workflow. You can limit the danger of duplicate content, remove old information from your site, and save time by giving existing evergreen content a new lease on life.
Improve your site architecture.
Ray told Search Engine Land that “the way a website is architected via its internal linking structure and breadcrumbs can actually aid to convey E-A-T. Use a logical parent/child relationship within your categories, subcategories, articles, and goods to help customers and search engines understand you have a depth of expertise on a certain topic,” says the author.
This method, she added, can also be useful for separating information that isn’t SEO-friendly or could harm your site’s overall quality. Such as user-generated content, adult content, or required website content that should be indexed.
Manage your brand’s reputation.
Your E-A-T may be harmed as a result of a bad brand reputation. The reputation of websites and creators is expressly addressed in Section 2.6 of Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines. Which instructs evaluators that “Many websites are eager to tell people how fantastic they are.”Some webmasters have studied the rating standards and have written reviews on numerous review sites. However, you must also search for outside, independent reputation information about the website when ranking Page Quality. Trust reliable external sources when the website claims one thing and reputable external sources say something different.”
Tumblr media
Although Google’s search quality raters have no direct influence over the algorithms or rankings. Their feedback is taken into account when the company plans future algorithm updates, and addressing your reputation will increase the likelihood that users will trust your site and its content.
Find ways to increase transparency and trust.
More and more sites are demonstrating their knowledge as E-A-T becomes more of a requirement to rank highly in specific verticals. Because of the increased competition. Ray believes that “the more you can do to show your users why you should be trusted. The more signals you can put to the page, the better your site will perform.”
Tumblr media
Diet Doctor clearly shows who the author is, who the piece of content was evaluated by, and when the article was last updated in the example Ray presented (seen above). The site also employs pop-up citations after each claim-containing text.
Expertise isn’t built overnight and neither is E-A-T
Whether you’re trying to recover from a core change or just futureproof your content. Keep in mind that the benefits of your optimizations may take some time to see. “Anyone hoping for shortcuts to this process will be disappointed to learn that there are none. Because this is extremely difficult work,” says the author.“Search engines might take a long time to process these changes,” Ray explained. So you might not see the consequences of your work until the next core update, or even the core update after that.”
However, the rewards of increasing your organic visibility and building more trust with consumers may be well worth the effort. The strategies you put in place to improve your E-A-T can also be utilized to improve your visibility in other areas. “It’s not just Google search; they’re focusing on E-A-T in so many various areas of Google,” Ray explained. “So the same techniques you’re doing to rank in organic search. Think about that for YouTube, think about that for your photos, and so on.”
