Hello! I would like to rec the amazing @juletheghoul!! Her fics have really gotten me through it the last year and here are my favs.

Oblivius: This fic lives rent free in my brain. I think about Francis and Spills on a regular basis. It’s just so good. Best friends since high school who are too scared to give into their feelings and then Frankie gets engaged to someone else and it’s top tier. Highly recommend.

Paradisum: This story is what introduced me to Jules. It’s Priest!Marcus Pike and it starts out just straight up smut but then evolves and it’s so satisfying. I love these two and how their relationship grows. I’ve also read this series an embarrassing amount of times, Father Marcus can get it.

Domum: Max Phillips and a witch!reader. This story is just so wonderful and really pulls you in, and my goodness, the smutty one shots are 🔥🔥🔥 Like 1000/10 do recommend.

Silk: Mob Boss Din Djarin, like my god. This man. I LOVE HIM. The way he protects his family?? How intense he is?? It’s so good, and also another story where there’s an evolving relationship that’s just so fucking good.

Honestly, all of Jules fics are incredible. She has a way of pulling you in, and keeping you immersed, and it’s just a good time. She just started a fic called The Huntsman that’s like epic fairytale vibes but reader is a badass witch, and I’m already hooked. 1,000,000/10 recommend checking out her masterlist!

Look I cannot pretend I haven’t been thinking about Ed/Stede for almost an entire year non-stop at this point.  C’mon now.  (Hard to say where they slot in my list of all time favs since they’re pretty fresh, but since we’re on this blog they’re getting top billing.)

Mulder/Scully.  The OGs, the trendsetters, the absolute 90s legends, what more can I say?

I guess the other major one in my life is Beatrice/Benedick.  Despite the amount of Macbeth in my current OFMD fic, Much Ado is my actual favourite play, and lbr despite my last bullet point these two are the real OGs, trendsetters and (15)90s legends.

This list was fairly heterosexual so honorable mention to Aziraphale/Crowley (the book versions, though I thank Mr Sheen and Tennant for their services).

first ever ship: Speaking of Mr Tennant, Doctor/Rose gets to go here (though of course this includes Nine and not just Ten).  I believe in RTDWho supremacy.

last song: My phone’s been on shuffle while making food so I’m halfway through Legends Never Die by Orville Peck ft. Shania Twain, which is one of his weaker songs imo despite the iconic collab.  But the last song I actively selected was Happiness by The 1975 because their new album fucks and I feel 17 again.

last film: Finally watched Everything Everywhere All at Once the other day so now I’ve seen like 2 films in preparation for Oscar season... I intend to watch more but don’t bet on it.

currently reading: Nothing currently - the last book I read was Slaughterhouse 5 (following my beloved Catch-22 reread: if you’re following my Mash blog you’ll have been bombarded with the ramifications of that for months now).  Sadly I didn’t really enjoy it though :/ Next up might be Jurassic Park since I found a second hand copy at a book stall, and that’s sitting on my bedside table, but whether I’ll actually get around to it any time soon is anyone’s guess.

currently watching: I watched the first episode of The Last of Us but haven’t seen the second yet, if that counts.  Also rewatching OFMD as it airs on BBC2, and it’s my favourite episode tonight so that’s fun!

currently consuming: Re: the above point, Kristian’s Instagram Lives have become something I look forward to every week.  Also been listening to The National’s new single a lot!

currently craving: Well I was craving pasta but then I had some so I’m all good now :’)

so I used to be rly into MASH like a solid decade ago so my memory of it isn't great, but that time loop post sparked a memory of a groundhog day fic that I was convinced I had read back in the day, but furious searching unearthed nothing and I was losing my mind a bit because I swear I had read a fic just like that!!

Now I have to apologize for this response taking a while, I've been busy the last couple days and wanted to take care in compiling this list.

There's quite a collection of hunnihawk fics on AO3 and I have gone through all of them because I don't have any self control. So yes I do have a few recs! You won't see any pwp fics in here, I'm the type who reads fanfiction for the plot lol so keep that in mind. These are in no particular order btw, and I'm sure my list will expand over time but for right now these are my top favourites.

I won't have comments for all fics and for that I apologize. Some of these are incredibly long and I don't have the time to re-read them and collect my thoughts. Whether there's a comment or not doesn't reflect the quality of the fic, only reflects the sieve like quality of my mind and how it cannot hold onto information for more than five minutes.

First off I am going to mention my absolute all time fav hunnihawk fic. Let me tell you, it took me by surprise because for mash fics I really don't enjoy mash aus as a concept (I think their relationships and personalities are really reliant on their circumstances) HOWEVER the film noir genre lends itself to mash very well. So I cannot recommend highly enough tallsinspace's hunnihawk noir au, if you don't read anything else on this list (tho please do!!!) you have to give this one a try:

In which Private Investigator Hawkeye Pierce gets in too deep with a couple of married blondes, runs up against some trouble, and makes a series of panic-fueled decisions. Story of his life.

I usually find it difficult to talk about exactly what I like about fics I read and recommend, however this one really lends itself to comment. Not only are the characters extremely well written, but the plot and situations are as well. This is the kind of story you find yourself paying attention to every word. Also this includes Hawk playing with gender, it works so well and feels incredibly true to character. Really well done.

Nostos; or, the Journey Home by Anonymous

This one is special for me. Not only was it the first BJ goes to Maine fic I read, but the first MASH fic I actually read! Yeah it had had an impact, I couldn't read anything else for a day or two after because I remember I was thinking about it non-stop.

But really my favourite part of this fic is BJ's reaction. Gotta love angsty moment's fuelled by our favourite repressee from California. Also if you couldn't tell, I'm very much in love with talls' writing.

Part character study, part experimental non-linear narrative, part a place for me to project and put all my unnecessarily specific headcanons in one place, today we’re taking a trip through hawkeye’s chaotic train of thought after being asked a simple question: “tell me about the bus.”

This one has a strong sense of melancholy to it, and I mean that in a very positive way. I found myself really sucked into Hawk's feelings when reading it. If you want something immersive and introspective, this one's for you.

When Peg Hunnicutt disappears without a trace, BJ is the prime suspect. He enlists hardboiled Hawkeye Pierce to track her down and clear his name, but how can Hawkeye be sure he's as innocent as he seems?

Yes, this is another noir AU, and it is very different from the last and just as incredibly well done. I especially love the way the relationship between Peg and BJ is portrayed here. And Erin <3 the way that both BJ and Hawkeye take care of her!! I just really love fics that pay attention and include BJ's love for his daughter and his goodness as a father.

Fic Writer Interview

Fandoms I write for: Spidey stuff (Peter/MJ, some Peter/Felicia, & Cindy Moon aka Silk) and Harry Potter (Harry/Ginny)

Favorite One-shot: this one was listed as two-shot, which I assume is a 2-chapter, but I don’t have any of those so I just chose my faves: A Welcome Interruption (for H/G) and Did You Forget Our Anniversary? (for P/F)

Most popular multichapter: right now it is Ginny Weasley & The Chamber of Secrets, but the moment I finish With The Click Of A Button that will take the top slot!

Actual worst part of writing: that phase of writing where you know what you need to wrap up a scene or convo, but you’ve looked at the section so many times that you can’t even tell if it is good or not anymore.

How you choose your titles: sometimes I have an idea of what I want the fic to be titled ahead of time, sometimes I figure it out as I’m writing it, but I usually have a vibe I’m trying to get at. Ideally something descriptive enough for a reader to remember once they’ve read the fic!

Do you outline: I love outlining and brainstorming! I go ham over an outline, it is probably one of my fav parts of the whole process because it feels like infinite potential. No deadlines, no editing or scrutinizing word choice, just pure vibes!

Ideas I probably won’t get to but it would be nice: I guess never say never but let’s be real: Miles/Gwen Inter-dimensional Detectives (I love the concept but by the time I would turn to this there will be like 4 Spider-verse movies that will be way better), HP Jumanji AU (Harry/Ginny & Ron/Hermione playing an HP version of the game with their characters as the founders, etc), HP Scott Pilgrim AU (Harry having to prove his worth to each Weasley bro, I have lots of ideas but no motivation), Spideychelle Princess Mononoke AU (it is just ripe for an adaptation and I’ve put thought into it, but I will make it way too big of a project if I ever start). Honestly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg here...

Best writing habits:

Outlining - see above

3 Draft Rule - I’m not always good at this, but remembering that: 1st draft is to just write it down, 2nd draft if to make it work, 3rd draft is to make it good (although my ‘3rd draft’ is just me editing a million times and screaming at the document until I give up)

Taking Notes - this probably goes with the outlining bit but I love just getting into an idea and sketching everything out, jotting down all my thoughts until I’m ready to make it into something, and adding anything I think of no matter where I am or what time it is

Spicy opinions: I don’t know if I have any spicy opinions so I will go with pet peeves. I hate when I pull up a fic search and there are fics with like a hundred tags. What am I supposed to do with this information? Like a character shows up twice and has 1 line but they’re tagged? They don’t need to be tagged! If your tags take up my entire phone screen I will not read the fic, I won’t even read the description. My rule of thumb when I’m tagging: if someone found my fic by that tag, would they feel like it was what they were looking for? Or would they feel like they got baited into reading it?

Since Tumblr's search function only works by selling a kidney and sacrificing a goat, I had to rely on Google. Which, not great. Anyway, useful stuff I found to understand this fandom: • MDZS on Dreamwidth: theuntamed_mdzs (active) mxtx (community focused on all the works by the author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. Not active, but it's there) theyilingweisect (community sharing fics, meta, discussions. Not active either since jan 2020) • MDZS aka Mo Dao Zu Shi (book) aka Grandmaster of Demobnic Cultivation / The Untamed (drama) (there's also an audio drama, a manhua, a donghua, ...) - the novel's en glish fan translation at Exiled Rebels (complete ) As far as I know, this is the most popular translation, though I would like to know if anyone has another translation that they think fit best. - the drama is streaming on Netflix, Viki, WeTV & Youtube. From what I heard around, Netflix and Youtube are the most accessible, obviously, but Viki has the best subtitles (and a whole lot of annoying pubs though). I think that I heard somewhere that there are fan subtitles made, will update if I find the link again). • About names: • The Untamed: A Primer Basically an overview of what is this drama, a few spoilers (but under arrows to open so less risks to see something you didn't want to see). Destiel Faves Survey: Preliminary Statistics

Happy New Year, everyone! Unfortunately, I won’t have time until at least this weekend to do the full post of top 20s with links, but I wanted to share some basics now that the survey is done!

I collected 175 surveys

245 authors received at least one “favorite” vote, bringing the total number of authors who have EVER received a vote up to 480.

I am in the early, early stages of (with help) using the survey author data to create a “if you liked this author, you might also like these other authors” database. More on this as it develops.

The top 20 authors list is actually the top 26 authors, thanks to a large-scale tie for 20th. The Destiel Favs Collection on AO3 is up to 1352 items in the main collection plus 435 bookmarks (bookmarks are of works not hosted on AO3 and of works where the author didn’t accept the invite to the collection).

I have gone through all the works hosted outside of AO3 and improved how they’re tagged in the bookmarks. However, this is a work in progress. If you’ve read any of these works and can suggest additional tags that would be fantastic - view the works here.

Backing up every story that received a vote (including every work in every collection) has resulted in my having a database of 2,980 works, totally 1.43 gigs of fic.

I will shortly be creating a spreadsheet that just lists all the authors and works that have gotten a vote, and the links to find the authors and stories. No vote tallies will be shared, but I thought this might help people, especially since some authors’ works are spread over multiple platforms.

I’m pondering a means of taking rolling submissions of works not already in the collection. I’m open to suggestions.

I have done my damnedest to get a digital copy of every work that received a vote, but I am still missing a few. If you have a copy of one of these please get in touch with me.

as for headcanons, i’ve talked about a lot of em before but oh well time to go very deep even though you didn’t ask for this

miranda is either a capricorn or a taurus, andy is a cancer or pisces. miranda’s a lesbian, and andy is bi. andy’s an infp, miranda’s an istj. miranda grew up jewish, andy grew up christian (maybe presbyterian? idk i’m not religious). andy i think would be a democrat and miranda would be a libertarian, but leaning towards left? miranda’s a morning person, andy is a night owl. andy loves fish, miranda hates it.

miranda grew up jewish and her mother was polish, but miranda was raised in england. her father died when she was very young and afterwards she had to take care of her mentally unstable mother. she’s fluent in french, enjoys gardening, can play piano well. she’s a very skilled dancer and cook as well. she reads a lot, mostly morning newspapers and really likes sylvia plath and emily dickinson. she’s a closet romantic and occasionally will do shit straight out of a romance novel-- she’s the one who proposed and she REALLY went all out. miranda listens to a lot of chopin, debussy, edith piaf, peggy lee, etc. an abba and cher fan (obvs). very possessive of aux cord, the coffee ice cream in the freezer, and andy. miranda has several pairs of reading glasses because she’s Extra like that, and sometimes can be found wearing like three at a time. she really loves old movies with audrey hepburn and william holden. she’s very protective of her relationship with andy, and refuses to make public statements about them. she and the girls always read harry potter together before bed. miranda used to smoke, but doesn’t anymore. contrary to a lot of fics, i don’t think miranda would be really insecure about her age-- she might say things occasionally like “god i’m getting old” or “ah, andrea. to be young again, and know a life outside of chronic back pain. what a life you live.” miranda always keeps giving andy outfits and clothes to wear without saying anything at all, and andy just pretends she doesn’t notice that her closet gets bigger and bigger every time she looks through it. despite being happily married for the first time ever, miranda’s still scary, mean, demanding, and treats her employees (and literally everyone else) the same as she always had. she’s not a very touchy-feely person, nor does she shower andy with praise, but if you talk to anyone that knows miranda priestly personally, they will tell you with confidence that she absolutely dotes on andy

andy likes ernest hemingway, virginia woolf, jane austen, f scott fitzgerald, and is constantly telling miranda about the books she reads. she probably gets along better with her dad than her mom. i think she has an older sister and a younger brother. her grandmother is the number one mirandy shipper. andy likes sports, pasta, 90s hip hop, and has the corniest pick-up lines that always make miranda laugh. she’s a very big dog person and miranda always gets mad at her (not really) for overfeeding patricia. she likes to make fun of miranda sometimes, and is constantly @ ing her on twitter. she loves harry potter just as much as the girls do, and lets them watch all the horror movies they want, which miranda gets mad at her for. she loves helping the twins study for school, and is the one handing them their backpacks before they leave, while miranda sharply reminds them to not get into trouble at school (they pull pranks and can be disruptive in class sometimes). she’s very shitty at interior decorating. oh and also andy tops 99% of the time

they make everything, no matter how small or menial, into a fun challenge (like speed shopping or water gun wars). they each have their own side of the bed and never stray from it, even when they’re apart. they’re constantly leaving each other post-it notes around the house- miranda lines her up neatly in rows, andy sticks them all over the place. they always fight over the tv remote and the twins dread movie night subsequently. they share their hobbies & interests with each other, and both are always willing to try new stuff out. miranda cuts out andy’s articles and secretly hoards them so she can read them whenever she wants. she’s very proud of andy and whenever they go to events miranda always introduces her as “my lovely pulitzer-winning wife, andrea.” before andy, miranda would never dance at parties or events, but now they’re dancing nearly all night long. when it’s miranda’s turn to host the met gala, andy is the first person on the guest list, and miranda obvs goes ALL OUT when it comes to planning their looks. they always walk onto the carpet holding hands and people always yell at them to kiss, but miranda has only caved ONCE to the press. after that incident they were trending on twitter for quite a while. andy always gets small gifts for miranda when she goes on trips, and they email each other all the time when they’re apart. andy keeps trying to get miranda to go to pride, but miranda’s stubborn as fuck and always says no. miranda and andy unintentionally end up wearing each other’s clothes around the house-- miranda in sweatpants and tank tops, andy in silk robes. they probably try to go out for drinks with nigel and his husband as often as they can. they don’t hug or kiss much but they do a LOT of hand-holding. miranda hates going to amusement parks but is willing to go because everyone in the family won’t stop bothering her about it (ESPECIALLY ANDY). 

when andy and miranda get older, they both retire from their jobs and dedicate most of their time to travelling together. they still make a lot of public appearances for charities, organisations, and events still though. they visit the twins as often as they can, babysit their grandkids (mostly andy because the kids say that “grandma miranda is scary”). every anniversary, they receive millions of messages and happy anniversary wishes from people worldwide. when they’re mentioned in a conversation, everyone agrees that they’re one of the best celebrity couples, and wish that they had a relationship like theirs

“Bullshit.”

“I swear.” Rick made a cross sign over his heart, though he couldn’t hide the giddy smile on his face. Daryl was less amused.

“You’re telling me you didn’t rig this shit? Ain’t no way outta all these people, you just randomly pulled your wife’s name out of that hat.”

Rick quirked an eyebrow at his friend. He really hadn’t messed with the rules—Carol wouldn’t have let him anyway—but he was more struck by Daryl’s choice of words in his accusation. “My wife, huh?”

“Ain’t she?”

He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel of the van as they drove back to Alexandria, pondering that. Of course she was his wife. Though, they hadn’t actually discussed that. What he and Michonne had wasn’t going anywhere, and it felt a little trite to call her his girlfriend. She was the mother of his children, his soulmate, if that didn’t make her his wife, no ceremony would. Still though, he wondered if she had thought about the fact that they hadn’t made that official yet. She’d never said anything. But would she—

“Hey!”

“Yeah,” he said, shaking his head. “Of course she is. But I didn’t rig the secret Santa thang. Sometimes you just get lucky.”

“Bullshit.”

“Who’d you get?”

“Eugene.”

Rick got home late that night, after Michonne and the kids were already asleep. He and Daryl had made what had become a weekly run into the city. They’d taken the whole group the first time, but now that they knew what areas to avoid, and cleared the rest, the two of them could manage just fine. Besides, this whole Secret Santa thing wasn’t gonna be possible if Michonne was with him whenever they were outside the walls. He’d lied and said he was missing his time with Daryl and she’d packed a sandwich for the both of them and waved them off.

He felt a little like the real Santa tonight, though, as he unpacked the backpack he had filled on the trip. The more essential stuff already went straight to the pantry, this was all for them. Michonne had found stockings in the attic of the house the year prior, and once they had found out about R.J., she’d made a fifth one to add to the mantel. It was red and black flannel, made from an emergency blanket he’d swiped from the trunk of a car, but she’d embroidered his name on the front and even found some white trim to decorate the top.

He plopped down in front of the fireplace and sorted his haul. A barbie for Judith, a football for Carl (that wasn’t going to fit in the stocking, so he set it aside to be wrapped somehow.) and a whole set of vintage matchbox cars for R.J.. Michonne might not approve of him playing with those yet, but he couldn’t leave them sitting on the shelf at that empty, burned out antique shop. Another thing he hadn’t been able to leave still sat in his pocket.

He stuck what he could in the kid’s stockings and hid the ball, then rifled through his pack for the little gift bag he’d found. It said Happy Birthday and had a picture of a cat in a party hat on it, but it would do. This was only day one of the gift exchange and besides, better he not give himself away by going out of his way to find the perfect wrapping. No one else would put in that effort for this little Christmas game.

He filled the cat bag with three silk headbands and some cowrie shells he’d traded Cyndi for, and crept back outside to set it on the front steps as per the rules. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Abraham approaching and he tensed. This couldn’t be good news if he was coming to knock on their door in the middle of the night. He was about to call out to him, when he noticed a package in his hand wrapped in shiny red paper. Since he had picked Michonne, and the kids weren’t involved in this game, he deduced that it had to be a gift for him.

“Rick,” he said, startled.

“Abe. What’s going on?”

Abe shoved the package behind his back and shrugged. This was exactly Rick’s objection to this when Carol suggested it. Grown men giving each other Christmas presents? Secret ones at that? It was a little awkward.

“Nothing, boss,” Abe said. “Just out for a walk. The night air is good for the old respiratory system, ya know. The lungs…”

“Right.”

“How about you? You delivering something?”

Rick looked down at the bag in his hands and glanced up the road toward Daryl’s house. He wasn’t even supposed to tell Daryl who he’d picked. He certainly didn’t want to get caught blabbing to Abraham. “Yeah, uh, was just headed out to drop it off.” He trotted down the steps. He would circle around, throw Abraham off the scent. He shook his head and headed left. This entire thing was so ridiculous.

...

Ok, maybe it wasn’t completely ridiculous. Rick beamed over his cup of coffee as Michonne tied the little shells he’d left for her into her locs. She had been so excited when she saw the little bag on the steps, that his cold, Grinchy heart had started to warm immediately. When she pulled out the headbands and gushed over the print and material, he felt like Scrooge on Christmas morning. Transformed.

He’d also found the little red package Abraham had left him. He’d opened the paper to find six cigars of different brands. He supposed even when you didn’t pick your wife in the draw, this idea still had its merits.

The next day went just as well. Michonne’s eyes practically bugged out of her head when she’d opened the original copy of the Articles of Confederation. He might have been showing off with that one, but if the end of the world wasn’t good for something…

Abe had left him a bottle of whisky, giving him the final push into all out Christmas cheer territory. Maybe he could get himself one of those ugly sweaters for Christmas morning. The kids would hate that. Michonne would love it. He was putting it on his list for the next run.

…

The next run happened to be the next day which was good timing, because after the reaction he got to the first two gifts, he wasn’t satisfied with the chocolate bars and tea he had planned on leaving her next. It wouldn’t really matter once she saw the fourth and final gift (he hoped) but still, he was on a roll, why stop now?

“So what’d you get Eugene?” Rick asked, hiding his laugh as he and Daryl cleared the aisles of an abandoned CVS.

“Hit the jackpot yesterday,” he said, plunging his knife into a lone walkers skull and shaking off the blade. “Found a pyrotechnics place outside of Hyattsville. Left him a bag full a morning glories. Should keep him occupied.”

“And what’d you get?”

Daryl reached into his pocket and pulled out a clean, red bandana, wiping his brow. “Ain’t even got any blood on it yet.”

Rick laughed. “It’s a Christmas miracle.” He shoved aside the last walker he’d put down and stepped over it to get to the aisle he was looking for. “Here we go,” he said, grinning. Bubble bath and lotion. Michonne had already used all of the products that came with the house when they moved in, and she was always looking out for stuff for the kids when she was on runs with him. She’d never get this stuff for herself.

He used his forearm to swipe the contents of the entire shelf into his backpack, then strode a few more aisles down and picked out a real gift bag. They hadn’t put out the Christmas stuff yet when the businesses shuttered their doors, so a plain red one would have to do. He even found a bow.

“Look at all this stuff!” Michonne dug through the overflowing bag of toiletries, holding up the pretty bottles to R.J. as he lay on his back on the blanket on the living room floor. The baby cooed as she showed him one by one.

Rick took a sip from his new coffee mug, printed with the words “World’s Greatest Boss” and smiled. Carol deserved a medal for this idea.

The final day of the Secret Santa was actually Christmas Day (as far as they could tell and had decided as a group). When he checked the front step, he found a pair of socks and some jerky with a note that said: “have a Merry Christmas, you’ve earned it -Abe.” Rick smiled and put his arm around Michonne who was a little dejected.

“Maybe your person is gonna deliver it later today,” he said, trying to keep a straight face. He’d already planned on giving her his gift later, after the kids went to bed. “The final day it’s not a secret anymore, so maybe they want to hand deliver it.”

“Maybe,” she said, holding the robe Carl had gotten her closed against the cold morning air. Her frown quickly turned into a smile when they walked back into the house and watched the kids play with their new things.

By the time everyone was put to bed, they were exhausted. He sat down on the couch and held his arms open for her to join him. She leaned her head against his chest and sighed happily. “It was a nice Christmas,” she said.

“It sure was.”

“I wonder what happened to my Secret Santa.”

“I don’t think he forgot you.”

“He? You know who it was?”

“Of course I do. You think I’m gonna let Carol organize someone else getting my wife gifts without me knowing who it is?”

He felt her stiffen, then turn slowly over her shoulder to look at him. “Your wife?” she asked, her eyes wide in a good way, like when she’d seen those headbands, but even better.

“Yeah. My wife.” He kissed her forehead and laced his fingers through hers. “At least that’s what I want you to be. If that’s something you want…”

She nodded, her eyes getting teary. “Yeah. I do.”

“Wait. Don’t say I do yet.” He shifted slightly so he could reach the little box in his pocket, pulling it out and setting it in her hand. “Michonne, nothing I could say could make you mean any more to me than you already do. The truth is, even this seems like an understatement in this day and age, but traditions were made for a reason, and while we’re rebuilding the world, maybe this is one we want to keep going. So…” He opened the box to show her the platinum and emerald ring he’d found in that same antique shop where he’d picked up R.J.’s cars. “...if you wouldn’t mind doing me the honor of wearing my ring, I’d like for the whole world to know what I already do. You’re everything to me, not the least of which is my wife.” He slid the ring on her finger and she stared at it while she wiped her eyes with her other hand.

“It’s beautiful, Rick. Now can I say I do?”

He reached up to press a finger in the corner of his own eye to keep his tears from falling. “Yeah.”

“I do, Santa.”

Rick laughed. “You knew?”

“Of course I did! I knew the second I opened up all that bubble bath that was so clearly wrapped by a man, and you didn’t even bat an eye!”

“Yeah I suppose I could have put a little more effort into faking it.”

“Well as your wife, I think you did a great job.”

“And as your husband, I’m gonna need you to take care of this for me next year.”

Michonne giggled, then laid her head on his chest. “Merry Christmas, Rick.”

“Merry Christmas, Michonne.”

ASDGL;DKLD WOW. I ADORE how the author wrote Arthur’s mindset, and the plot is so well done and fleshed out I’m totally obsessed. Wow. Such an intense slow burn I’m sure a small village went up in flames. Wow. Also, I love Gwen with my whole heart and this fic treats her RIGHT w/out ignoring her whole canon storyline. Great work!!!

Merlin spent the week and a half that Arthur was gone splitting his time between crafting careful explanations that never ended up explaining the important things, the things that would make Arthur listen, and making half-baked plans to escape to Ealdor. He found a number of fire-proofing spells that would have no effect if they decided to cut his head off, and figured out how to adapt an invulnerability spell he had been trying to find a way to cast on Arthur without him noticing so that it would protect him from being decapitated, but it would have no effect on anything but metal. Despite all his frantic searching, he did not find a teleportation spell, because that would have been too simple and if there was one thing Merlin had learned in his years at Camelot, it was that nothing was ever simple.

Fanfic recs - The Untamed

So, I was trying to put together a good intro-list of fics for a friend of mine, to get her started in the fandom and it made me think about my fav fics in general. I wanted to see if I could boil it down to my top five .... which was really really difficult! And to make matters harder for myself I’ve limited it to only completed fics (fair warning some of these are NSFW)

5. Gunmetal Grey by paperlungs (Words: 14,128)

Jiang Cheng has burned a lot of bridges in his life. It’s almost like he’s forgotten that you can walk across them to get to the other side instead of torching them to the ground.

He looks at Nie Huaisang and wonders-

-He wonders if there’s room yet in his scorched chest for one more bridge to burn.

This is part 1 an unfinished series (3 installments so far). I love a good spy AU and I love how the author wrote both Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang and their relationship. There’s a fair bit of angst in this fic (which is one of my major go-to tropes) but it all hurts so good. 

4. A Civil Combpaign by Ariaste (Words: 19,645)

“And,” said one of the pompous ministers, “there’s the matter of a marriage to consider as well!”

Jin Ling, who at the beginning of that sentence had expected to slam into the very last wall of his patience and lose his temper entirely, paused. “A what?”

Thing was… it wasn’t such a bad idea.

In which Jin Ling sets out to marry Lan Sizhui and it goes about as well as can be expected. This is my staple feel-good fic. It sweet and heartwarming and full of teenage dumbasses. There is also a companion piece told from Wei Wuxian’s perspective and podfics of both read by exmanhater

3 The Absolutely True Story of the Yiling Patriarch: A Manifesto in Many Parts by aubreyli (Words: 19,692)

In which the junior disciples (namely, Lan Jingyi, Ouyang Zizhen, and a reluctant Lan Sizhui) turn to RPF in an attempt to rehabilitate Wei Wuxian's reputation so that he and Hanguang-jun can get together and get married and live happily ever after. It's... surprisingly effective.

The premise of this fic boarders on crack by the author pulls it off marvellously. It does pretty much what it says on the tin but there are some wonderful juniors moments and cameo appearances from Jiang Cheng, our favourite angry grape, and Nie Huaisang, who as always had hidden depths. There is also a sequel of sorts, starring the juniors and a podifc read by Rhea314

2. The Lost Cause by KouriArashi (Words: 18,838)

AU in which Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao work together to take down Jin Guangshan from the beginning.

Or: the story in which Nie Huaisang just wants to paint fans and feed birds and he doesn't understand why this is so much to ask.

I love, love, love a good Nie Huaisang fic. And I love the hot mess of a murdering psycho that is Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao. So those two together in one fic is just brilliant. This was the second fic I read in the fandom and the first podfic I listened to (read by sisi_rambles). I love the idea of Nie Huaisang taking it on himself to fix things before they all go to hell and Jin Guangyao learning that he’s met his match. It’s a gen fic, which is unusual for me, but the podfic especially is still one of my first picks for entertainment when I have housework or a long drive to do.

1. My Age Has Never Made Me Wise by idrilka (Words:63,439)  

“We hear that His Excellency might be married by summer’s end,” the merchant’s wife says and Wei Wuxian freezes, his heart in his throat. “The Gusu Lan sect has been buying enough red silk and brocade that the merchants in Caiyi can’t satisfy the demand.”

He feels himself grow brittle inside, like a flick of a finger to his temple might make him shatter. His ears are ringing. 

“Who’s the lucky bride?” he asks despite himself. His tongue sticks to the roof of his mouth.

This fic broke my heart and then took the time to mend it again. It was one of the first I read in the fandom and I was late to work in order to finish reading it. The miscommunication trope in full force (another of my go-to tropes) and I just really like the writing style and the flow of the narrative. 

0. Linger by the Door by piecrust (Words: 78,447)

Wei Wuxian travels the world alone, finding homes in unexpected places, and loving Lan Zhan one letter at a time.

Okay, I’m cheating. This one should really have beat out My Age Has Never Made Me Wise for the top spot. It is so so good - I just couldn’t put it down. It also comes with a short companion piece on tumblr for those who want a bit more Lan Qiren in their lives.
