So, Shiren 6 is coming this January/Febuary (depending on where you live in the world), and well. I'm pretty hyped! It's been a while since we got any new original Mystery Dungeon game from Spike Chunsoft! And while I have SOOOO much more brainrot over PMD than shiren, more MD from daddy chunsoft is always great!

This kinda came to me in one of my college class daydreams. and now, I finally got time to finish this!

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Offers Fans a Refreshing Focus on Fundamentals

Such has apparently been the case for the most recent entries in this series as well and is what the team at Spike Chunsoft are most directly addressing with its next installment: Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. We were recently able to have good hands-on time with the game, and it’s looking like the developers’ efforts on that front are paying-off. This new Shiren offers a lean and focused roguelike, dungeon-crawler experience, one that’s likely to please longtime fans and serve as a no fuss jumping-on point for newcomers.

I recently started playing the new Shiren game and managed to clear the first dungeon on my 3rd attempt!*

No synthesis used, since I unlocked it the run I beat it (not that I actually know how to do synthesis... my Shiren experience is mostly limited to Shiren 1 Table Mountain runs. This seems like the game to learn it for!)

Either item RNG is particularly generous this game or I got incredibly lucky, but it seems that everything you find during the main dungeon is really useful, with lots of good weapons/shields (that you are meant to synthesise with, I assume) and overpowered bracelets.

I totally would have got slapped by the final boss if I didn't have an invincibility herb... I didn't know it would shrug status off so quickly, so my plan of slowing it down with a staff and kiting it to beat it wasn't working, and I only had that herb as a backup plan.

*if you were wondering, my 1st run ended underwhelmingly on the 4th floor. I didn't have a shield and wasn't paying attention to the damage I was taking, and got slapped by one of the pumpkin ghosts, going from full health to dead in just two turns

my second run ended more hilariously. On the floor with the samurai's that turn into ghosts, all of the ghosts kept leveling up the same crossbow boy. He went through all the stages of bowboy, to becoming a tank! Naturally, me being the greedy bastard that I am, wanted to kill it for the exp, so I tried to fight it. in an open room. where other bowboys promptly entered. I died getting shot by arrows and cannonballs from all directions.

Lesson learnt from run: don't fight in open rooms on floors with ranged enemies if you can help it. Seriously.
