#Shen jiu’s body is finally his again
wildrosesayshigh3 · 15 days
Text
Does anyone ever think about how relived Shen Jiu was when Shen Yuan self destructed? Cause now it’s no longer his body that the imposter was connected to. It’s not his body the imposter is kissing the half—breed disciple. It’s not his body that’s clinging unto Liu Qingge like a limpet. Effectively he’s dead and while no one knows it his body finally died.

Fun Scum Villain fic concept:
So Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua are sent back to their original world temporarily due to system shenanigans and need to wait x number of days until they can go back. They wake up at the times of their deaths and get to use this time to do some final things in the world before returning back.
So Shen Yuan of course wants to spend the time with his family and getting to see them again and say goodbye in a less depressing way. But Shang Qinghua doesn’t have that and he’s just finished PIDW.
Shen Yuan makes sure he has enough money to get him through the timeframe (after learning about Shang Qinghua’s financial situation), so he doesn’t need to work to keep himself alive, so he decides he wants to write something a little more heartfelt as a sort of last hurrah.
He decides in honor of the two lives he and Shen Yuan stole, he’s going to share the backstory of Shen Jiu and write a story about Shang Qinghua.
Shen Jiu comes first and it’s mainly just a tale about him and Yue Qingyuan using his unposted backstory, but in the end he decides to make some minor changes so it’s not as depressing. Namely, that when they died, their souls were both sucked into Xuan Su. The pair ended up trapped there, but they were trapped there together in a world that couldn’t hurt them anymore and allowed them to finally be together.
It’s a poignant and bittersweet story that doesn’t excuse Shen Jiu’s behavior, but it does a lot to explain it and expand his character. And while it of course has its detractors, people generally like it and Peerless Cucumber is there in the comments singing its praises for all to see (and there in Shang Qinghua’s apartment smacking him over the head with a rolled up magazine and scolding him for being by such a good writer and selling out on PIDW).
The Original Shang Qinghua story doesn’t really have any old notes to go off. He was never meant to be a fleshed out character and was always just a plot device villain. But Shang Qinghua feels bad for PIDW’s Mobei-Jun, so he decides to write something for his sake too.
In this story, it’s revealed that Mobei-Jun didn’t actually kill the Original Shang Qinghua, but instead worked with him to fake his death after Lou Binghe ordered him dead. Shang Qinghua reveals that the pair were actually lovers and maintained their secret relationship over the years and that was why Mobei-Jun never seemed interested in romance.
And most readers are like wtf except for the bl fans who love it. And even Peerless Cucumber is a little more hesitant to praise it since it sort of came out of nowhere, but he can admit that it’s clever and well written. And Shen Yuan can tease Shang Qinghua relentlessly for it, even if he also approves and finds it very sweet.
Depending on how much more time they’re stuck there, maybe the pair can also write one more story, giving the original Lou Binghe a happier ending too.
Eventually, it’s time for them to go back. Shen Yuan says goodbye to has family and Shang Qinghua says goodbye to PIDW and hopes that his changes and additions can bring people some peace, even if it’s probably too late for those who need them most.
Shen Yuan realizes that Shang Qinghua was trying to alter the canon in hidden ways so that the system could silently incorporate them into the world without breaking anything. He figures it’s mainly for Bing-ge’s universe that’s still more or less PIDW, but being the mega-fan that he is, he decides to put a theory to the test.
It takes a lot less time with the help of the sect, but he manages to grow another plant body like his own. And then with Yue Qingyuan’s permission, he uses some of Shang Qinghua’s new hand-wavy canon to reach out to Xuan Su. And the next thing he knows, Shen Jiu is waking back up in the plant body after years trapped inside the sword.
And of course there’s a lot of questions and Binghe tears, but Yue Qingyuan gets his Xiao Jiu back and Shang Qinghua realizes that his changes must have taken in the other universe too, now meaning there’s less suffering there as well. He gets to curl back up in his king’s arms that night and rest assured that no matter what universe he’s in, both his king and that universe’s Shang Qinghua are well and truly loved.

hey, share the weight a little by Tossawary
Shang Qinghua is miserable as an outer disciple of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, doubtful that the plot will ever begin, when he finally runs into his first character. Yue Qingyuan is only a boy in desperate need of a helpful friend. Well, why shouldn't Shang Qinghua be that friend? A little investment now when they're young and Shang Qinghua might just be able to survive this world with the support of a sect leader.
It's definitely not because he's also in desperate need of a friend.
(He's definitely not expecting love.)
you're my number one by pennydaniels

The Evening by kat8cha
Yue Qingyuan wakes up, he gets dressed, he goes to work, he goes to the gym, he goes to a party.
He pays people to tell him what to wear, people to tell him where to be, people to tell him what to do, and pays for someone else's engagement party.
A broken mirror restored by bunnyfication
Yue Qingyuan is hit over the head with the realization that he could ask Shen Qingqiu to marry him, Shen Qingqiu's suspicious mind cannot make sense of the sequence of events. Yue Qingyuan would never, would he? What is this, mind control??? (it's happiness, but neither of them has ever felt it before).
nobody, nobody told me by AMereDream
“Qingqiu-shidi,” he started. “Are you al—”
Xiao Jiu tugged, surprisingly strong for someone who had collapsed out of nowhere less than an hour before. Yue Qingyuan followed, partly out of surprise and partly because it was Xiao Jiu; of course he’d go wherever Xiao Jiu wanted him to be.
He found himself being dragged onto the bed, only the thin sheets separating him from Xiao Jiu's body. His breath caught in his chest, and he clenched his eyes shut.
Xiao Jiu's bony elbows dug into his chest, his thin — too thin, having skipped too many meals even for someone who didn’t need to eat — shoulders curved to meet Yue Qingyuan’s body.
His long hair tickled Yue Qingyuan’s face. He smelled like the honeyed soap he washed his hair with. Yue Qingyuan inhaled covertly, deep and greedy.

One morning, Shen Qingqiu woke up a changed man. Yue Qingyuan is left trying to figure out what happened to make him so relaxed and affectionate.

The Yue Qi and Shen Jiu extras of SVSSS are all quite sad, especially since they apparently take place in the PIDW universe and show off some of Shen Jiu’s time in Huan Hua’s Water Prison (when Yue Qingyuan comes to visit him) and Luo Bing-ge coming to tell Shen Jiu about Yue Qingyuan’s death. I had read these extras before, but only the once, and a few years ago now.
So, while Shen Jiu was working for Wu Yanzi, he committed a number of serious crimes alongside his master, and Wu Yanzi had killed a number of famous cultivators using what most would call “dirty tricks”. Shen Jiu assumes at this point in time that Yue Qi has died horribly or gotten caught in some “worse than death” situation, so he’s shocked to encounter Yue Qi again, and see that Yue Qi has become the head disciple of Qiong Ding Peak and looks great.
The worst part is that Yue Qi and Shen Jiu meet again at an Immortal Alliance Conference. Where Shen Jiu and Wu Yanzi are looting the bodies of some of the disciples who “considered themselves elite”, and it first it seems like the disciples just died against some beast, so it’s not as bad as it could be. Yue Qi stumbles upon Shen Jiu, they’re both shocked, and then Shen Jiu is the one who dives forward and sets off one of the “distress signal fireworks” that disciples are equipped with for these conferences. Shen Jiu is in this case a trespasser and a murderer, and so bringing the sects down on them is bad for him, and he can only possibly be doing this to save Yue Qi from Wu Yanzi.
Wu Yanzi returns and scolds Shen Jiu (who quickly throws the firework shell away) for the firework going off, saying that it’s unusual for Shen Jiu to be so slow and asking why Shen Jiu didn’t just cut off the disciples’ hands, so, yeah, Wu Yanzi and Shen Jiu probably killed some if not all of these disciples. Best case scenario is that they sneaked up on disciples who were fatally injured and then dealt the final blow, but that’s an extremely generous reach.
Shen Jiu tries to convince Wu Yanzi to leave before more senior cultivators come and find them, but Wu Yanzi and Yue Qi get into a fight. Shen Jiu is terrified for Yue Qi. Wu Yanzi is about to pull a move that I think temporarily blinds or otherwise disables his opponents? It’s some move that Wu Yanzi has used to kill several famous cultivators, which Shen Jiu has witnessed him use before. So, before Wu Yanzi can use this move, Shen Jiu stabs his mentor through the back with his sword to save Yue Qi. Then Shen Jiu and Yue Qi run off together, hand in hand, presumably leaving Wu Yanzi’s dead body to be found surrounded by dead disciples, with his pockets full of loot.
Yue Qi and Shen Jiu then have a confrontation, in which Yue Qi apparently cannot bring himself to explain to Shen Jiu why he failed to come back, and which Shen Jiu immediately takes badly. Yue Qi apologizes, but Shen Jiu interprets it badly as well, which makes sense when Shen Jiu is jumpy as hell and running on survival instincts and a criminal. Honestly, in this moment, I cannot blame Yue Qi for failing to speak eloquently about this, because it read to me like he was just in shock. Like, holy shit. What a way to meet again.

hi, what are ur thoughts on SY!SQQ? do you dis/like him? do you think he “stole” SJ’s body?
Lol stole SJ's body.
No, I don't think he stole anything as "Shen Jiu" ceased to exist as an entity for the story the system wanted to fix. Shen Yuan was the change it needed as well as the other characters to have their fate changed. Shen Yuan is still the technical villain of the work, but that is not out of maliciousness as Shen Jiu, but situational mistakes made by him and misunderstanding that he himself has already altered the world's path.
Shen Yuan was the needed factor to right what even Shen Qingqua acknowledged as regrets over and turning it for the better. Shen Jiu regardless in Shen Qinghua's story would have never changed, regardless of what backstory he had untold and was revealed to Shen Qingqui. His past wasn't told for the reader's to think better of Shen Jiu, but for Shen Qingiu to realize he is not Shen Jiu or obligated to be, for the system or anyone. Shen Yuan has a lot of sympathy but is horribly dense to emotional empathy to others and time and again needs to have it shoved in his face that there are options to choose from that no longer keep hurting Luo Binghe as Shen Jiu had. It takes far longer than it should have to come to this realization as he finally acknowledges.
I will use this as an excuse to use another thought piece I've been poking at to add on as an addition. Due to Shen Yuan's awkward and low empathy processing and what that means that he is a villain antagonist that overcomes that trope:
Exactly what was this System? What was the point of its existence? So he could know exactly how unfortunate these people were? So he could personally witness the most tragic ways the world could screw people over?
Or so he could drive Luo Binghe to insanity?
Everyone said Luo Binghe had gone mad. Even he himself had smiled and admitted it. Xin Mo, which Luo Binghe had finally managed to suppress after a million words of struggle in the original work, had gained the upper hand in this struggle and invaded Luo Binghe’s mind.
This wasn’t a result of one or two events, but a slow accumulation over time, until finally it had completely erupted. Numerous signs had long since made themselves apparent,
but Shen Qingqiu had never noticed.
Or perhaps he should say that he’d never realized that Luo Binghe was actually so insecure, to the point of having an inferiority complex.
First, he’d thought Luo Binghe was unbelievably cruel and evil, then he’d thought Luo Binghe was unspeakably strong and bright. Looking back, the symptoms of Xin Mo’s invasion of Luo Binghe’s mind had appeared as early as Zhao Hua Monastery.
When Luo Binghe heard his backstory, he’d received a massive shock. In his moment of greatest panic, he reached out to Shen Qingqiu, pleading for his shizun to leave with him.
But Shen Qingqiu hadn’t taken Luo Binghe’s hand and instead had made Luo Binghe leave alone first. At that time, Luo Binghe’s psyche started to grow incredibly unstable. What he’d needed wasn’t a path of safe retreat, but to be together with Shen Qingqiu.
Even if he was trapped in Zhao Hua Monastery and unable to retreat, even if he was surrounded and attacked by everyone present—either outcome was better than leaving alone!
To a Luo Binghe in that state of mind, having to leave alone was as good as being "thrown away”—like he had been when Su Xiyan willingly drank that poison.
It was exactly as Luo Binghe himself had said. He wasn’t forcing Shen Qingqiu to choose between two options because he was completely certain he knew the answer, down to his very bones: that Shen Qingqiu would one day abandon him.
His entire mind had flooded with terror of and anxiety from speculating over something yet to happen. How could he not go completely insane?
Shen Qingqiu is not a mirror for Shen Jiu, he is one for Yue Qingyuan. As Luo Binghe in the changed plot is a mirror of Shen Jiu. Like Qingyuan Shen Qinqiu was unable to see what a perceived constant abandonment can do to a person's mind, especially with the "promise", that they would be there, they would make sure nothing would ever hurt them again, while being the catalysts of that continued hurt without acknowledgment. Yue Qingyuan expresses deep regret for just not simply being able to reveal to Shen Jiu what happened to him as well that caused him not to come back, desperately wanting to. Siblingship and what he felt for She Jiu was no less in yearning and love than the romantic adoration that Shen Qingqui had for Luo Binghe.
Shen Jiu:
Some time passed, then Shen Jiu sighed. “Qi-ge, you really gotta be less impulsive in the future. You mess up every single time. This time I was the unlucky one, but if you’re still like this in the future after joining those immortal sects, what are you gonna do? You gotta keep calm!”
He was lecturing someone older than him, and at such a tender age too. It was somehow comical. Yet the other youth didn’t seem the slightest bit unhappy. Instead he said earnestly, “I’ll remember.”
Now that he had hope, Shen Jiu’s voice became fervent. “You absolutely have to remember the things you said! You must come back to save me!”
Qi-ge seemed to be nodding his head hard. “All right,” he said emphatically. “Wait for me. Once I finish my training, I’ll definitely come back—then we’ll leave together!”
Luo Binghe:
Having just entered his apprenticeship, Luo Binghe had been full of joy and gratitude.
But now that he’d been splashed with a head full of tea for no reason, his heart had been wholly chilled and quenched, as if he’d taken a bucket of ice water to the face, complete with ice cubes.
He blankly remained kneeling in place, eyes unblinking. During this silence, two teardrops rolled down his cheeks.
This was Luo Binghe’s first cry since he personally buried his mother. It would also be the last time he cried at Cang Qiong Mountain Sect. After this, no matter what humiliation he suffered, no matter what “Shen Qingqiu” did to him while venting his twisted feelings, Luo Binghe’s tears never fell unrestrained in the way they did today.
Shen Qingqiu
Shen Qingqiu crouched before him, but when he raised his sleeves, they passed right through Luo Binghe. He was unable to touch him, unable to hug him. He was completely helpless to even wipe away his tears. His heart ached and throbbed to the point that he wished for death.
Despite knowing Luo Binghe couldn’t hear him, he still said, “Don’t cry, hm?”
Luo Binghe stared down at his knees, and the fists resting on his legs slowly clenched. His tears dripped faster, the drops splashing onto his lapels.
"Shizun will never hit you again.” Shen Qingqiu fruitlessly wiped at his cheeks and coaxed him. “So don’t cry.”
Luo Binghe raised a hand and rubbed at his eyes, then carefully picked up the teacup on the ground before placing it to the side. Clutching that jade pendant to his chest, he corrected his kneeling posture.
Shen Qingqiu knew what Luo Binghe was thinking at this moment. Surely he hadn’t understood the rules and had done something wrong, angering the peak lord. That was why he’d been given this punishment. As a disciple, kneeling for his shizun was also something he should do.
Looking at those subtle movements of his, Shen Qingqiu couldn’t help but kneel as well so that they were face-to-face. He reached out, tightly enveloping the entirety of Luo Binghe’s small body in a phantom embrace.
Yue Qingyuan:
But Yue Qingyuan’s next words would shake Shen Qingqiu to the core. “I’m truly…sorry.”
Even his voice trembled. “Even though I wanted to return as soon as possible, even though I wanted to come get you immediately…I made a mess of things instead. You were right. In the end, I’m an impulsive person…
"After that, Shizun destroyed all the tendons, bones, and meridians in my body, then shut me inside the Lingxi Caves for more than a year. My entirety was broken down, to be rebuilt anew.
"I screamed, I yelled, but it was no use. For an entire year, inside that pitch-black cave, no matter how crazed I became, how hysterical, no one listened closely to what I said, no one let me out…
"I pushed myself as hard as I could, but by the time I returned, Qiu Manor had already been destroyed for some time…”
It is Yue Qingyuan that is what is able to snap Shen Qingqiu to not continue a path of fake apathy and to actually take a step to fix their regrets. Shen Qingqui doesn't want to be the empty promise of sympathy as resounded so many times despite doing nothing but adding to Luo Binghe's hurt by faking passivity and aloofness to make good on what he says about not wanting to hurt Luo Binghe and leave him consistently. The running thread here is that they both said they would "be together" with Shen Jiu and Luo Binghe respectively yet were not able to, due to awful circumstance for Yue Qingyuan, and for lack of foresight of Luo Binghe's trauma that even Shen Qingqiu added towards.
They admittedly did fail to uphold the larger than life promises they made in the heat of impulse, Shen Qingqiu was just given the opportunity to be able to right his mistakes with the push from Yue Qingyuan. Shen Qingqui was able to show in actions finally that he did ultimately and truly care deeply for Luo Binghe, who had been consistently met with abandonment by those he loved, intentionally and unintentionally committed by Shen Qinqiu the most. His flippancy towards Luo Binghe's traumas are what he needs to tackle himself and make up for, something that Yue Qingyuan and Shen Jiu were unable to do despite the efforts on Yue Qingyuan's part.
In short, I very much adore Shen Yuan (motions to blog title), I feel he is a great rendition of what it means to be human, he's not amazing, he's smart, but he's emotionally dense, he says hurtful things but can care for someone with his entire heart. But he is not as omnipotent as he thinks to be and has to learn that the one he adored and then vilified wrongly, did not harm him as much as he had harmed the one he said he wanted to protect.

Day 10: Killing in Self Defence
AO3 link
(cw: major character death)
Yue Qingyuan had thought that it would be fine. It had been years since he had entered the Ling Xi caves, not since the time he’d been trapped inside them… but as Sect Leader he was expected to keep his cultivation up, and the caves were really the best place to do it.
It was only after Shen Qingqiu had requested seclusion in the caves for some time to improve his own cultivation, that Yue Qingyuan had finally decided to face his fear. Shen Qingqiu had an unstable foundation, and was prone to qi deviations — Yue Qingyuan had come across him recovering from them a number of times himself. If it happened while he was cultivating within the caves, with no one around to notice and call for help… would his cold body just lie there until someone wandering through the chambers happened upon his bones?
No, Yue Qingyuan would follow him in, would be there to save him if he could, no matter how much Xiao Jiu would yell at him and accuse Yue Qingyuan of thinking him weak.
Yue Qingyuan was wrong. He was very, very wrong. The first few days, he managed to meditate, but the memories slowly crept up on him, his anxiety increasing bit by bit, until he felt his qi go wild, as he was plunged into a violent qi deviation. His memories began to merge with the present as he ran through the passages of the caves, looking for the exit. It was like he was a disciple again, trapped behind the stone, unable to save Xiao Jiu.
Then he heard a shout from behind that grabbed his attention — a cultivator in fine robes with an elaborate hair crown and a spiritual sword at his waist. A Peak Lord, he concluded in his muddled state — Qing Jing perhaps, from the green? None of that mattered though, all that was on his mind was escape. The Peak Lord before him must be there to stop him from escaping, to lock him back up again until his punishment was finally over.
He attacked swiftly, surprised at the strength his blows held, without even drawing his sword. The Peak Lord fought back, first with a fan, only drawing his sword once it was left broken on the ground. Yue Qingyuan found his mouth moving without his awareness, mumbling ‘Xiao Jiu’ under his breath as he fought. He would escape, he would go back, he would save Xiao Jiu from that awful place!
The Peak Lord fighting him hesitated for a second, and that was all the time Yue Qingyuan needed to send him flying into the sharp and jagged stone of the cavern walls. He stepped closer, his rage clouding his mind as he went to finish off his enemy— only to let out a gasp as the blade of the Peak Lord’s sword cut right through his chest. As the taste of blood filled his mouth, his mind began to clear, and he looked down in horror at the Peak Lord he had just been trying to kill — Shen Qingqiu.
Shen Qingqiu’s eyes were filled with tears, in a way he hadn’t seen since they were young — not the fake bawling he’d do when they needed money, but those silent tears of fury that he’d try to hold back and hide. Xiao Jiu must hate him, was his only thought — but instead he reached out with the hand that wasn’t holding the sword currently impaling him, and held it against his cheek, which he slowly realised was damp with his own tears.
“Oh Qi-ge, you’re such an idiot,” Xiao Jiu told him quietly. “I never hated you, not really — I just thought you’d chosen to abandon me. But this — you were stuck somewhere awful as well, weren’t you?”
“I —“ Yue Qingyuan paused. He was dying, he could acknowledge that much. His qi deviation had wreaked havoc on his cultivation, and his qi was still too unstable for any of the techniques he knew that could keep him alive long enough to get to Qian Cao. If he died here, if the other Peak Lords saw — they would accuse Shen Qingqiu of murdering him in cold blood, he was sure of that. If he was going to die, he wasn’t going to bring Xiao Jiu down with him.
He leaned forward, pushing Xiu Ya further into his body in the process. Before Xiao Jiu could protest, he reached out with his hand, one dirtied with his own blood from his reckless actions earlier into the deviation, and began to write the character for ‘qing’, the same one that represented their generation of Peak Lords, onto Xiao Jiu’s cheek. It was an old ritual, one his master had only told him how to perform just before his ascension — a way for the Sect Leader to hand over their authority to anyone else. It could not be coerced, it could not be denied — the wards of the sect would answer the new sect leader, even over him.
As he finished writing it, he felt himself beginning to loose consciousness. As he finished the ritual, Shen Qingqiu let out a gasp of pain as the character embedded itself into the flesh of his cheek. Yue Qingyuan looked up at him one more time as he desperately tried to drag him out of the cave, and said what he believed would be his final words.
“I’m sorry.”

No Time for Farewells
requested by @meowmeowed on ko-fi
Fandom: SVSSS Pairing: Yue Qingyuan & Shen Jiu Summary: After already giving up hope, and resigning himself to live out the rest of his days in torment, Shen Qingqiu receives a surprising visit in the water prison. Words: 1.4k
What use was hope for the damned?
No use at all— and so, as one condemned to die, Shen Qingqiu had abandoned it long ago. That monster he had personally raised had grown and grown until its power surpassed any other power in this world, and had decided that Shen Qingqiu would remain in its clutches until he met his end— so of course it would be so.
It was only a matter of time.
Shen Qingqiu waited for that final day to come from his dark, damp cell deep within Huan Hua Palace’s water prison, because there was nothing else left for him to do.
He’d adapted to the low light, his dismal surroundings clearly visible to his one remaining eye. He’d adapted to the pain— after having both legs torn off one after the other, anything else was hardly a tickle in comparison. He’d adapted to the intense hunger and thirst, even though his cultivation had long since been destroyed, and he realized that the beast’s blood parasites alone were keeping him alive.
At a certain point, he became quite bored of the pain and the torment, and his consciousness retreated to the recesses of his own mind, his only awareness of his surroundings being a constant half-watch on the door, just to make sure that the beast wouldn’t come in and catch him off guard.
Even though Shen Qingqiu knew he was going to die, he wasn’t about to give Luo Binghe the satisfaction of seeing him break. Even if all he could do was glare with one eye, he would do so for as long as he remained conscious.
Shen Qingqiu was nothing if not stubborn.
Besides, Luo Binghe meant to torture him anyway, so it was better to make him so angry that he beat Shen Qingqiu into unconsciousness sooner rather than later. He had nothing to lose, after all, and he’d rather get it over with.
Shen Qingqiu had never considered that he might be rescued. He’d done that once before— and look where that had gotten him. Of course, this time, he’d made sure to drive that person away properly. He… had already burdened Yue Qingyuan for too long. Shen Qingqiu’s eye began to ache, so he shut it for awhile, ignoring the flashes of red and white and the burning sensation that filled it before the darkness settled in. He breathed in once, then again, the air rasping through lungs that had been damaged by his repeatedly-broken ribs, then healed messily, only to be damaged once again before the scar tissue had fully formed.
This couldn’t keep going for much longer, right?
He released a short, bitter laugh— really, it was more of a wheeze. Of course it could.
Shen Qingqiu knew he would only have the luxury of dying when Luo Binghe grew tired of him, and that… didn’t seem like it would be happening any time soon.
Time passed by— how long had it been since he’d closed his eye? He wasn’t exactly sure. Maybe he’d dozed off for a bit, at this point he didn’t much care. There was a bit of a commotion beyond the walls of his cell. He grimaced. The beast must have returned, and one or another of his subordinates must have made him angry. No doubt the remaining vestiges of that anger would soon be taken out on Shen Qingqiu’s own battered body.
Best to brace himself now, so that he could seem as unaffected as possible later.
He was too busy preparing for the pain that he didn’t notice that instead of one steady set of footsteps approaching the cell door, there were several. The gait was familiar, yet not the same sound as Luo Binghe’s— Shen Qingqiu’s mind had just begun to process this information when the cell door rattled.
He startled, his eye opening wide as he jolted himself up into a slightly-raised position, reaching to shakily brush his matted, tangled hair away from his face.
A moment passed, just the space of a single breath, but to Shen Qingqiu it felt like hours.
Then, there was a flash of brilliant white light, a sharp, high-pitched sound ringing through the air.
The door was split in two.
All of Shen Qingqiu’s senses were shorted out at once. A great, oppressive power reverberated through the space, and he felt as though he were being pushed into the ground by the weight of a mountain. His shaky arms gave out and he collapsed. That white light flooded into the cell, filling every corner, blinding him, and the shrieking sound like a thousand winter winds drowned out any other sound.
For a moment, Shen Qingqiu blacked out.
When he came to again, someone was gently holding his wrist. The hand touching him didn’t belong to Luo Binghe, but it was familiar nonetheless. Shen Qingqiu was too dazed to pull away, and when a cool feeling like a refreshing mountain stream washed over him, he went limp once again and didn’t bother trying— what was this? Why was he getting some kind of relief now, after so long in constant torment?
Had he finally lost his mind? Was he in his death throes? Or… perhaps he was just hallucinating.
He opened his eye—
Oh… of course. It had to be a hallucination.
Why else would he be seeing Yue Qingyuan’s face before him now, with that stupid concerned-and-guilty expression on his face… why would he be here? He wouldn’t even show up when Shen Qingqiu wanted him to, why would he show up now after he’d already been driven away…
Shen Qingqiu’s cheek felt damp. His remaining eye must be bleeding now.
Had… had something new happened? He didn’t remember. He reached up, brushing away a few drops of liquid onto his hand… they were clear, he realized, as his vision distorted, watery and shimmery, and Yue Qingyuan’s features blurred in and out. His lips moved, but it was a moment before the words left them and reached Shen Qingqiu’s ears, soft yet crackling slightly, as if stepping on fallen leaves after a light rain.
“Xiao-Jiu… Qi-ge is here. Qi-ge came to get you, we’re leaving together now.”
What was this…
What was happening right now?
“Zhangmen-shixiong, we need to go. He’ll be back in no time once he realizes you’re not going to show up, and we’ll need time to prepare for the inevitable attack on Cang Qiong Mountain,” another voice cut through the haze of Shen Qingqiu’s mind… this one was familiar too. Qi Qingqi? What… what was she doing in this strange vision of his?
A soft silken robe, black as night rippling with the last shimmering of sunset, fluttered down to cover Shen Qingqiu’s body, wrapping him up in a soft, comforting scent that seemed to ease the pain of his wounds along with the cool spiritual qi flowing through his battered body. The heavy metal collar around his neck which fastened him to the wall was suddenly snapped off like it was nothing, and before he could even register what was happening he was lifted up off the ground.
Somehow, he decided that he didn’t need to struggle. Instead, he leaned his head up against a strong, well-muscled chest, his fingers involuntarily grasping at the white silk of Yue Qingyuan’s inner robe. This was all just a dream, after all, and he had nothing more to lose— why not make the most of it?
……
“Are you sure you’ll be alright? You don’t wish to go with us?” Qi Qingqi’s voice was barely above a whisper as she spoke to a figure concealed in the shadow of the walls of Luo Binghe’s back palace.
"If I were to go, he would only have more of a reason to attack,” the young woman in the shadows replied. “Besides… there’s no reason he would suspect me.”
Yue Qingyuan was nearby, already atop his sheathed sword, carrying a too-small figure bundled in his arms as he waited to leave. His face was pale, but Mu Qingfang had said that he was safe to fly— and even if he wasn’t they didn’t have much of a choice. He looked anxious, glancing back and forth for any sign of trouble.
Qi Qingqi nodded. They didn’t have any time to argue. “I understand, then. We’ll be going now. Be careful.”
“I will. Goodbye, Qi-shishu.” With that soft whisper, a small, bitter smile stretched across delicately-painted lips. “Take good care of Shizun.”

that little snippet with Sayuri and Shen Jiu makes me incredibly curious about that AU. How much interaction have they had up to that point (because I'm assuming it was the real Haitang at some point? Or did Sayuri wake up without powers so had to bide her time or something)? Also how differently would the plot go, because I can't imagine Sayuri would stand for Shen Jiu treating children poorly or the suspicions of Shen Jiu's martial siblings/old peak lords
Yeah I definitely viewed it as a transmigration thing, where Sayuri landed in Qiu Haitang's body shortly before the Qiu massacre. I guess in this verse, I saw her as more of a mixture of Lily and Sayuri-- more jaded than Lily, less hardened than Sayuri. Maybe a Sayuri who died early on, who didn't survive the fighting rings, who thought it was over and she could finally rest-- only to wake up in yet another unfamiliar body.
Playing the part of the innocent, naive, happy-go-lucky girl (at least until she gets her bearings) is one of the more challenging things she's done but if there's one thing she's learned from Sousuke, it's how to put on a convincing mask. She latches on to Shen Jiu because his wounds so remind her of her brother's-- that same ruthless drive to do anything in order to survive.
For the first few months of their acquaintance, Shen Jiu is in a constant state of bewilderment that the girl he'd always viewed as the epitome of innocence is, in actuality, kind of a bitch. He's never felt closer to her. Shortly after they come of age, Haitang suggests very calmly and reasonably that they get married after all. She times her proposal perfectly to the split second after Shen Jiu takes a sip of tea and pretends that his resultant sputtering and choking was not at all her intention.
("It's only practical, it's not exactly a secret that you and I spend the majority of our nights together. We might as well make the rumors official. Now I've always been partial to the idea of a fall wedding, what do you think? The leaves are always so lovely that time of year, all golden and red like-- yes, the exact shade your face is turning, thank you for demonstrating, A-Jiu.")
It's a purely platonic marriage, of course, but it does wonders for fixing Shen Jiu's reputation. It's an ongoing debate on Cang Qiong over who's scarier-- the Qing Jing Peak Lord or his wife, who was once rumored to make a Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python cower away with a single glare. Things go pretty well for a while.
And then Luo Binghe arrives.
(In one world, Luo Binghe goes to bed as the Emperor of the Combined Realms with an unmatched harem of over 600 renowned beauties. When he wakes up, he is 12 years old again, weak, powerless, and back at Qing Jing Peak-- the source of some of his worst memories, a place he'd once burned to ashes. Worse, he is back at the mercy of Shen Qingqiu, who is now...happily married to the woman who was instrumental to bringing him down?)

Story-idea: Yue Qingyuan turns into a demon
Tianlang-Jun/Yue Qingyuan
Variation on the idea that humans can turn into demons when their heart demons get too strong.
A while after Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe married, Shen Qingqiu visits the sect again. Unfortunately, right at this time either someone brought back an artifact from a mission that reveals the original Shen Qingqiu was replaced by another soul or a seer is present who spills the information. This is obviously not good. After more questioning of either artifact or seer, the other peak-lords learn that Shen Yuan was unwittingly and unwillingly forced to live Shen Qingqiu's life.
And Yue Qingyuan finally breaks.
He's not angry at Shen Yuan, since he neither planned nor wanted this to happen and did a lot of good. But the sadness and despair Yue Qingyuan feels knowing Shen Jiu is gone and actually hated him to the end is too much. He already suffered through several traumatic, heartbreaking events and this time he stops trying to get a hold of himself. Despite the efforts of his fellow peak lords, his heart demons overwhelm him and he turns into a powerful demon. Even Xuan Su twists into a terrifying new shape.
Shen Yuan is convinced this means Yue Qingyuan will go on to attack and inflict horrible revenge fueled violence worthy of the PIDW protagonist on him and so obviously tries to bolt. He's not getting far, though. Big misunderstandings ensue yet again, because Yue Qingyuan very much demands his blood. But to Shen Yuan's eventual utter bafflement and relieve, Yue Qingyuan has no intention of killing or maiming him. He just wants a blood sample so that he can search for Shen Jiu's soul. Shen Yuan urges him that, if he does find the original goods, he absolutely has to explain to Shen Jiu why he couldn't save him from the Qiu's, because he's sure this would fix things between them.
Against everyone's protests, Yue Qingyuan declares he resigns his position in Cang Qiong. Then he leaves to find Shen Jiu.
His search leads him into the demon realm, where he by chance meets Tianlang-Jun, who is as nosy curious as usual. After hearing what happened, he offers to help. After all, this is highly interesting and, while Yue Qingyuan is truly strong, he knows next to nothing about the demon realm. They get along surprisingly well.
It doesn't take too long to find Shen Jiu. He reincarnated as a demon. (Depending on how long reincarnating takes and how much time has passed between the story events and now, I think he could be around 10 years at most.) Shen Jiu is yet again alone and struggling to survive. He does remember his past life, which helped him quite a bit, but his situation is still rather bad. Seeing Yue Qingyuan in demon form is a great shock to him.
Shen Yuan was right, though, knowing what really happened is mending things between them. It's a very tearful reunion. Yue Qingyuan finally has his little brother back.
Tianlang-Jun is happy to be around them. Two former humans with ample knowledge of human customs and art, now perfectly fine living in the demon realm where no one will dare oppose them having contact - what's not to love about this?
Tianlang-Jun and Yue Qingyuan get together after a while. Tianlang-Jun is not exactly a capable adoptive father. Good thing that Yue Qingyuan has that covered all the better and Shen Jiu doesn't really need it from anyone else anyway.
(Maybe they also find a demonic equivalent to the Sun-and-Moon-Dew-mushroom or another MacGuffin, so that Tianlang-Jun eventually doesn't have a problem with his demonic qi deteriorating his body if he isn't careful anymore.)
Imagine Shen Yuan accidentally stumbling over them after a few years and learning they are a weird, happy little family now. That reaction could be hilarious.

After coming across SVSSS-related stuff on the blogs I follow/stalk, I finally gave in to my curiosity and checked the donghua.
I tried reading the novel a while back, but it didn't entice me that much so I didn't finish it. I think seeing the donghua helped spark my interest again.
Then I held back from watching Ep 10 for the past week and started reading the novel. I'm almost finished with it.
It's so different from MDZS. I find myself laughing most of the time. Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan edition) are such disasters. I'm sure the more senior fans have already written eloquent posts about how codependent they are, Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan's relationship, why Cucumber Bro and Airplane Bro transmigrated to the novel they read/wrote, why the System exists in the first place, writing what you're passionate about vs writing what'll bring in money, and who is Jiang Cheng's counterpart in SVSSS, among other things. I think I read a post suggesting it's Liu Qingge? Or is it Shen Jiu?
Anyway, back to the donghua. I hope I'm not alone in saying I like the character design. At first it was a little jarring---maybe because I'm not used to watching CGI---and the donghua isn't actually 100% polished a la FFVII remake (on a side note, someone joked that Yue Qingyuan seems to be from the PS2 era). Regardless, I appreciate the design since it gave me an idea how the characters look like.
Which is why I'm a bit surprised when I started trawling the SVSSS tags here at Tumblr and saw art depicting Luo Binghe as a curly-haired, big-muscled mountain of a man. Perhaps this is influenced by Western taste? I'm not an expert in Chinese literature or culture, but in some pics I've seen from Cdramas those of demon blood who play major roles don't have the physique of someone who can crack walnuts with their biceps. Think Wang Yue (Wang Zhuocheng) from Legend of Chongzi and that actor from Love Between Fairy and Devil. Furthermore, Luo Binghe is described as a pretty boy in the novel so at this point, I'm of the humble opinion that the donghua got his body type right. And I subscribe to the standards of beauty from the source culture.
Okay, going back to the donghua Ep 10. As we say here in my country, papunta na tayo sa exciting part---I'm going to see Luo Binghe get pushed down the Endless Abyss by his beloved Shizun. Oh, the angst, the drama.
Nope. Nothing of the sort happened.
Oh, so they saved it for Season 2 [Tries to find Season 2]
[Season 2 not yet released] 😨
What. The. Hell.
I held off finishing Season 1 because I thought Season 2's already available. The site where I watched the donghua said Season 2's release is 2022.
Dude, we're two months' shy of closing 2023. 😱
Season 2, where art thou? 😭

Title : I’m lucky, God went to bed and we have fate in our hand
Summary :
It should have ended there. Liu Qingge should have come back to his peak, sleep a bit and then go back to an other mission. Shen Qingqiu would have done whatever the fuck this spoiled brat does of his time.
Maybe in an other world it would have been like that.
Maybe in this world, God was bored and decided to change fate. Who knows.
—————-
It began like this.
It was a normal mission, not particularly difficult not easy either. Well, except for the fact that his partner was Shen Qingqiu but even then it wasn’t really different.
They argued on the way, Shen Qingqiu wanted to go on the left path because « it’s safer, shidi ! », Liu Qingge wanted to go on the right because « You are just a coward, Shen Qingqiu ! It’s faster ! ». They ended up taking different path and coming to the town at the same time. Then, they fought because Liu Qingge couldn’t stand Shen Qingqiu smug face when he saw Liu Qingge’s dirty clothes. Liu Qingge won as always.
They slept in different inn (if Shen Qingqiu slept in an inn at all and not in some woman arms), fought again because Shen Qingqiu couldn’t handle himself and flirt with every young, old, married, unwed, poor and rich ladies when they should investigate. (Truly that hat guy has no shame !)
Still, they found the demon, Liu Qingge killed it, Shen Qingqiu tried to kill him again. They fought again, Liu Qingge won yet again. They went on a different path again, Liu Qingge came back to his peak, made his report to his shifu, trained a bit and then went to slept.
That’s all.
That should have been all. It should have been an other nameless not particularly special mission.
————————————
The first thing Liu Qingge noticed when he slowly emerged from sleep (which was truly unusual for him, he always woke up rapidly and ready to go on his day) was the smell. He knew that smell, but his foggy mind and oh dear- his headache (since when does he has headache ?) prevented him from knowing exactly from where he knew it.
His head hurt so much, he couldn’t even think.
The second thing he noticed was the hand that was playing with his hair and smoothing his ache. It reminded him of his mother.
Liu Qingge slowly opened his eyes, everything was so bright and overwhelming but the chest of the person he had his head on was so comfortable.
Wait.
He distanced himself from the other person as fast as he could and fells off the bed.
He fells off of someone else’s bed. He was on someone else’s chest.
Someone had throw a bucked of cold water on him, he would have feel the same. What have I done ? He dishonored a lady, he must have been drunk, he may even have forced her. How could he —
« A-jiu ? » The woman’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts « Are you alright ? »
« A-jiu ? » He repeated confused, frowning. The world finally seemed to be less bright, his gaze focused on the woman. She was a pretty and young lady, her hair was simply styled and she was in red robe. Then he looked around the room, it was a rather large room in red tone. There was a low table opposite the bed with a Guqin on it. Another table with a tea set on it was in the corner of the room, near the door.
However, it wasn’t the tea set that caught his attention.
Green clothes had been lazily thrown on the chair.
Carelessly on the table and half hidden by a sleeve was a sword but Liu Qingge would recognize it everywhere.
Xiu Ya.
Finally, his gaze fell on his hands, on his bare forearms and then on his half-naked chest. It wasn’t his hands, forearms or chest and the robe that slipped off his shoulder wasn’t his either.
« H-how ? »
The woman quickly got out of bed, barely readjusting her clothes « Are you ok, A-Jiu ? » she said close but without touching him.
If earlier he felt that a cold water bucket had been throw on him now he felt like he was in a volcano. With a red face and pointing at her, he stupidly said « You are a prostitute » which made him earn a confused look.
« Yes ? »
He pointed at himself « This is Shen Qingqiu »
« …Yes ? »
He was nearly going to embarrass himself by asking « did we have sex yesterday » as if it wasn’t obvious by the state of their clothes but a commotion in front of the brothel stopped him. Liu Qingge stood up rapidly and walked toward the window
He heard faint mumbling but the closer he got toward the window, « … you jerk … » the clearer the voices became « … get out of … » until he slides them open and went on the balcony. A silenced talisman must have almost completely cut off the outside sound in the room because once he went outside everything was so loud, it was like being thrown into the middle of a storm.
« WHAT DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND IN ‘GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BUSINESS’, ASSHOLE ? » The old madam screamed on top of her lung at a man.
The man didn't back down no matter what she was screaming at him, he was trying to talk to her but she didn’t seem to listen
« I SWEAR TO GODS IF YOU BOTHER MY CUSTOMER AND DESTROY ONE SINGLE VASE I’M GOING TO KICK YOUR ASS— »
Not any man, it was his body
« SHEN QING QIU » Liu Qingge could feel anger rise in this body he wanted nothing but to put that lech in the dirt. Immoral and perverted to the point of sleeping in a brothel the same night he returned to the sect after a mission
Everyone became silent. The women looked between the two of them with confused look.
Shen Qingqiu sighed and looked toward him with an annoyed face « Liu Qingge » he said to confirm their predicament to everybody there. Then he redirected his attention to the brothel madam. « May I enter, Madam » He slightly bowed to her.
Some people would say that Shen Qingqiu was very respectful but Liu Qingge knew better « STOP FLIRTING IN MY BODY »
« Stop shouting half-naked in mine, you brute ! »
« I WOULDN’T BE HALF-NAKED IF— »
They continued to argue a bit more, Liu Qingge was close to jump off the balcony to fight that womanizer but Shen Qingqiu calmed down strangely quickly when the madam asked him to. They talked, Liu Qingge couldn't hear much of it. Then Shen Qingqiu walked to the front door of the brothel and there was no way Liu Qingge would let that bastard go alone into a brothel in his body.
Liu Qingge ignored the prostitute that spend the night with Shen Qingqiu and ran towards his robes and boots, he didn’t take the time to put all of the layers. He just took an outer robe and Xiu Ya and roughly put the boots while running in the corridor.

(( CW mentions of alleged sexual abuse -- some more Shen Yuan’s Sister as Ning Yingying AU headcanons ))
Honestly, when Shen Yuan’s sister finally lets her brother in on the fact that she’s Ning Yingying, SY!Shen Qingqiu nearly dies again on the spot. Like what do you mean OG Shen Jiu was left unsupervised with his younger sister for six whole months?!?!
And now HE was in that bastard’s body. Gonna be sick now, thank you!
She has to very tactfully explain that-- No. Shen Jiu never touched her. Whatever crimes he allegedly committed against Ning Yingying in PIDW were either completely made up or heavily exaggerated. Because it is true that she spent time alone with Shen Jiu on occasion & it’s even true that it was, perhaps, a bit inappropriate for Shizun to seek comfort from her* -- but it was never sexual.
*though he’d never admit that’s what it was
Yes, it does... look awfully incriminating.... from an outside perspective, given how Shen Jiu doted on her & everything. Yet, unlike the original NYY, who was such a sweet, naive little thing? Shen Mei definitely would have caught on if he had Those sorts of intentions. And he didn’t.
These were just regular Bad Decisions, not Vile ones.
And, in the beginning, Shen Mei really didn’t mind the extra attention, because she was in a bit of a State™ when she first arrived. So, being doted on by an Older Brother Authority Figure wasn’t so bad...

Liujiu timeloop AU.
The first timeline LQG was strong, but he wasn't the War God, and he and SQQ were friends. He and SQQ would often go out hunting together. It was one of those hunts that LQG stumbles, and the next thing he knows, SQQ is standing in front of him, the monster's claws, aimed at LQG now embedded in SQQ's chest. Kills the monster, but by then SQQ is already dead. He carries his friend's body back to the sect. He watched YQY break down over his death, his disciples cry. A month later, LQG wakes up a disciple, the day SQQ joined.
This time, he trains even harder, with his future knowledge, his strength grows. He quickly befriend SQQ, but adamantly refuses to go on hunts with him. Years later, SQQ goes on a hunt alone, and doesn't come back. A month later, LQG wakes up a disciple, the day SQQ joined.
He tries again. Gets stronger. Befriends SQQ, barely leaving his side, to SQQ's occasional annoyance. It doesn't help, LQG makes a mistake, a stupid mistake, SQQ pays the price. A month later, LQG wakes up a disciple, the day SQQ joined.
This time, he kills himself, hoping maybe this time SQQ will live. Only, he's stuck as a ghost, following his friend. SQQ is on a mission with the new Bai Zahn head disciple. LQG doesn't think they deserve the title as he watches them run and abandon SQQ to the monster they were fighting. LQG wakes up a disciple, the day SQQ joined.
Over and over, SQQ dies. LQG looses track of how many timelines. He gets stronger and stronger. Earns the title of War God. It doesn't help protect his friend.
It's always worse when SQQ sacrifices himself for LQG, so LQG decides not to give him a reason to do that anymore. He stops befriending him, pushes him away instead. It hurts to have his friend look at him with caution rather than the usual fondness, but not as much as it hurt watching SQQ take a fatal blow for him.
AND THEN IN THE FINAL LOOP SHEN JIU ABSOLUTELY LOATHS LIU QINGGE AND LIU QINGGE DOESN'T LIKE THAT BUT CLEARLY THIS WAS THE SOLUTION SINCE HE IS NO LONGER LOOPING AND SHEN JIU IS STILL ALIVE...
But this is PIDW.
And now that PIDW is back on track with the pre-canon events of Shen Jiu and Liu Qingge being each other's worst enemies, the system can stop looping over the Qing generation's disciple days and proceed to introducing the protagonist's parents love story.

Mama Jiu week fic:
In honour of Mama Jiu week 2020 :)
Emptiness
Summary :
Patching some pieces of the past, to the present.
Shen Jiu went into labour several hours ago. While he’s held hostage by this beautiful but horrific feeling called “nostalgia”, he can’t help but lets his head be filled with messy thoughts.
Extract :
It grew on him like some vivid tints on a bland canvas. Slowly expanding its way from his heart to his brain. Recalculating the whole purpose of his life from every corner of his frame. And this new feeling taking shape tingles every pore on his skin.
For the first time in his entire life, the desire to keep on living submerged his being. Or rather, the desire to keep on trying to sustain this body he never wanted to, in the first place.
Partway between a scream and a groan, Shen Jiu's voice raises as he doubles over. Mere seconds after the last one fell, another contraction hits him, forcing his nails to seep in the hard mattress.
Now that he finally decides to remain among the living, the thing lodging in his belly says the perfect opposite?
Being an entire jerk for eight months straight wasn’t enough as it appears.
From making him spew out everything that even a grain of rice couldn’t pass down his oesophagus, to laying thrice into a pool of blood. Was all that not worth it? Why would this thing, at present, makes him suffer as if he was pierced by thousand arrows in a row?
No time to wonder: it’s Luo Binghe's offspring after all.
Shen Jiu straightens his neck when a little hand rubs his back. The corridors of his individual wing have been quite noisy from dusk to dawn. If it wasn’t for Shen Jiu’s breathy lamentations, it was the servants carrying bowls of white congee, boiled water and heavy quilts to replace the bloodstained ones every so often.
Of all these helpers moving in and out of the room, this tiny hand could belong to only one. The smallest bean of all the servants he knew in the Wolf clan. The youngest child, if he recalls well, of the Rat clan. Six-balls.
“Please, don’t hold your breath Third spouse.” Pleads the kid while passing a trembling damp cloth on his forehead, “Please, keep on breathing.” He adds before his voice rises again, “At least if Third spouse wants to die, this lowly beg Third spouse to die when Young Master is here! ”
“Shut your silly trap.” Orders Shen Jiu, shutting his eyelids tight to condone the pain from taking the entirety of his pallid face.
Six-balls slaps both of his palms on his mouth.
Of course, to Shen Jiu's hugest misfortune, it doesn’t last long. Does Six-balls even go short on saliva? Strangely enough, it’s reminding him of a certain someone. “Third spouse doesn’t want to lie down? Maybe it will appease Third spouse a little.”
After a quick cold glance, Six-balls finally gets it: he should definitely zip it. Or not.
“Does Third spouse need me to fan his face ?”
The kid’s fingers slightly tremors when a weak yelp unsettles itself from Shen Jiu’s lips. The pressure on his pelvic area increased, stretching hurriedly to his back as he finds himself asking Six-balls to put him back to bed. He should have listened to him sooner. Maybe he was true, maybe laying down would ease his pain. Or walking would be better? But he tried to walk right now, and apart from awaking spurts of cramps in his lower parts, it lead to nothing.
The child grasps the big man's arm and then, forcefully draws it to his side. Failure. Shen Jiu is not moving an inch. Another tentative. Tentative which, obviously failed too since Six-balls falls back. Why is he even counting on a seven years old body to help lift not only his body but also a miniature human inside?
“This one will go ask for help!”
Soon after, the sound of footsteps lighted out.
Eyes closed, Shen Jiu tries to slow his breathing. Mimicking the content of the book he read. He starts by inhaling deeply, holding it for a while, and then emptying both lungs as if blowing on a candle. His teeth clench. It. Does. Nothing. Not even easing the sensation of his limbs getting ripped off him and less with making him think about something else.
Does the kid really wish for his death?
It’s true he never wished for this in the first place, however, this type of punishment is too hard on him. And strangely enough, he’s finally happy he’s never done this kind of thing with Yue Qingyuan. This thought swept in a tinge of remembering.
