Why It’s Important to Have Regular Communication in Senior Citizen’s Community Living
A growing number of seniors are residing in care homes as the population matures. The American Health Care Association/National Centre for Assisted Living estimates that there are over 900,000 seniors residing in assisted living facilities and various types of care.
These senior citizen’s community living are home to a large number of elderly people, making it difficult for family members to stay in touch with them and the carers at the nursing facilities. However, it's essential to stay in contact for their security and well-being.
Here are several justifications for keeping in touch with nursing home patients and staff, as well as suggestions for doing so.
Tumblr media
Why You Should Communicate With Your Loved Ones
Ongoing contact can be beneficial for both you and your elderly loved ones living in communities. Here are a few advantages:
Enhanced emotional health: Seniors living in communities are frequently at risk for loneliness and isolation, which can exacerbate mental health problems like depression. Seniors who communicate often with their loved ones feel less alone, more connected, and supported.
Improved security and safety: Keeping elders informed about problems or worries helps to guarantee that they get help quickly. Seniors who communicate with their family members can express their worries and feel heard while the family takes appropriate action.
Higher quality of life: Research indicates that seniors who stay in frequent contact with their family members live longer and in better health. According to the National Institutes of Health, their chances of being happy, having better mental health, and going through less anxiety and despair are higher.
Enhanced socialisation: Seniors who communicate with their loved ones are more likely to remain involved and active in the community. Seniors might feel more at ease and have more opportunity to socialise in their communities if there is greater communication amongst them.
Making educated judgements: Seniors who regularly communicate with their family members at senior citizen’s community living can make educated decisions regarding their care and future goals. Families may support one another in giving their loved ones a feeling of autonomy and control over their care.
How To Stay Connected With Loved Ones
Establish a virtual connection: Make video calls on your phone or computer to stay in touch. Ensure that your loved one receives assistance from someone in the senior citizen’s community living or is at ease using technology. Strengthening the bond is aided by seeing the faces of their relatives.
Engage in social media interaction: Share anything on Facebook or other social networking sites. You may make them feel more connected to you if you send them information about your newest activities and share images of their grandkids. Moreover, private communications are available.
Place a call: Although it's outdated, elderly might feel more at ease speaking on the phone than using a computer. It might be reassuring and uplifting to hear your voice as well as the sounds of their other family members.
Plan face-to-face meetings: Establishing a regular routine for your beloved will provide them with anticipation. There may be many chances to visit, recall, and engage in enjoyable activities during these visits.
Why You Should Communicate With the Community Staff
It might benefit you and your family member to have open lines of contact with elder care providers. Also, you may get all the information you want on their status and treatment. In what way does this communication assist?
Improves care quality: Better coordination of care can lead to better results for elders and higher-quality care. This can be achieved via effective communication between you and community workers. This allows you to express your gratitude and concerns.
Assures customised attention: Good staff-resident communication is essential to ensuring that residents receive individualised care that takes into account their particular needs and preferences. Details on your loved one's care can then be exchanged and given.
Boosts openness: Open communication between carers and family fosters trust and transparency while also keeping everyone informed about the senior's care. For the benefit of both you and your loved one, cultivate this bond.
Information: Family members are a great source of important details that staff members might not be aware of regarding a senior's medical history, prescriptions, preferences, or requirements. This information helps staff members give better individualised care.
Helps with decision-making: Family members may guide elderly people through the complicated health care system and assist them in making well-informed decisions regarding their treatment and future goals.
How To Stay Connected With Staff
You can take many steps to establish and preserve a cordial connection with the personnel at the senior citizen’s community living where your loved one resides. What you can do is as follows:
Pose inquiries: Learn more about the care and activities of your loved one. This strengthens your bond with them and enables you to provide suggestions and counsel when needed.
Have patience: It's OK if carers are unable to respond to you right away; they are busy. Take advantage of this chance to learn who looks after your loved one and how to get in touch with them directly when you need to.
Pay close attention to what I say: Make careful to listen to employees when you speak with them. Make notes and ask follow-up questions to show that you comprehend what they're saying.
Please include your contact details: This makes it possible for administrators and personnel to contact you in case of emergency. Maintaining these channels of contact might help your loved one feel more at ease and taken care of.
Express gratitude to them: Seniors with varying degrees of need require a lot of care, so make sure you thank them for their assistance. Recognize their efforts and let their management know if you appreciate them.
Respect carers: Allow these experts to carry out their duties, but remember that you have the right to accompany them in obtaining the information you want. Carers are more inclined to cooperate with you if you treat them with respect.

Creepypasta is inherently cringy. It's foundations are built on the backs of mentally ill teens and young adults from the late 2000s-2010s. Of course it's self indulgent, we were suffering and needed escapism. Of course some of the portrayals of mental illnesses are less than perfect, we were navigating an ableist world while struggling with said illnesses. Hell, many of us were being abused and the idea of a found family made it so we could make it through another day.
I've been in the creepypasta fandom since I was a little girl. 9 years old, in fact, 2009. The dawn of ARGs becoming popular. I've only recently began creating content because I felt the community has matured enough that if someone didn't like what I did, they'd move on rather than rant and rave over how garbage my art is. That's mostly the case. Mostly.
See, I'm seeing a rise in "mature" portrayals of these characters. Not NSFW "mature", that's always been there. I mean supposedly gritty, realistic, "made for adults" kind of spins. It'd be fine if the people doing it weren't fucking trampling on the heritage of the community in the process. We're a goofy community, and the slenderman is our dad that makes us waffles. We write bullshit, but still entertaining stories about serious topic, then put those characters in goddamn tutus. You can have your cake and eat it too. You just don't have to be unpleasant about it.
My favorite example of this duality is @carnalhaus 's Nine Jeff. His story is heartachingly sad, it's fairly realistic, it's got mature and NSFW themes at times, and yet... we've got art of him in a cat maid outfit. And it's fantastic. The duality of this fandom is what makes it so great. Shunning one part in favor for the other is just a fundamental misunderstanding of the media. Being all high and mighty about how "mature" and "realistic" your interpretation is isn't unique. It's sad.

Sorry to be heavy on main but people love to talk a big game about helping “vulnerable populations” when really they mean the visibly homeless. You ask them what we can do for vulnerable adults living in unsafe environments that are a home or place that is not visibly publicly and they throw their hands in the air and go “well there’s nothing that we can do if they don’t want help.”
Okay so you want to force homeless people from their encampments into pretty little boxes designed to house them but when it comes to a senior citizen whose home is physically falling down around them, living in waste we’re just gonna let that happen? We put together a task force to “help along” the homeless people living in their cars that stop along our town green to take advantage of our free wifi, but do nothing for the people actually living in this town? It’s hypocritical as fuck.
You don’t care about vulnerable people, you only care about the ones that affect your physical viewpoint.

just had a nice moment of appreciating my friends all over the world (aka those of you i know here) because today’s episode of the podcast criminal told the story of a historical murder of a woman by her husband, and how when she went missing it was her friends who questioned her husband and found his answers suspicious and went to the police and refused to give up, and were even the ones to memorialize her in the end.
so given how small my daily life is, how in my actual city i only know the two people i live with, i just find it randomly sweet and comforting to know that i have at least two friends (and likely more) who i have never met in person who would be genuinely concerned if i cut off all communication suddenly, and who would probably politely hound the people they knew to be in my physical world until they received sufficient answers.
it’s like, i don’t expect to be murdered anytime soon, and i definitely would never expect my family to cover it up if i was, but knowing how easy it sometimes is for people to disappear and have nobody miss them, i am very grateful that i can say for certain i would be missed and worried about.

Daily update post:
Amazing news on the 129th day of the war: Israel's army has rescued 2 hostages from Gaza, 70 years old Luis Har and 60 years old Fernando Merman (they're two of 5 family members who were all kidnapped together, including Clara Merman who I mentioned before. The women were released as a part of the hostage deal, roughly 2 months ago). The rescue operation was started at roughly 1 in the morning, lasted about 1 hour from the first to the last bullet fired, and took place in Rafah, the last city in Gaza under full Hamas control. That Israel managed to do it in Hamas' last stronghold makes this operation (which required a lot of forces and VERY accurate intel) even more impressive, certainly when you consider how the difference between success and tragic failure in such complex operations is SO small. The IDF spokesman said that from the moment the soldiers broke in, they physically embraced Fernando and Luis to shield the hostages with the soldiers' own body (we've heard from released hostages that the terrorists told then in case of a rescue operation, the orders are for the terrorist to kill them, them themselves. I'm gonna admit, that's when I started crying. I was so happy to hear these two men are okay, but being reminded that young men, with their whole lives ahead of them, physically put their bodies between these elderly men and the terrorists' bullets got to me. It goes against every evolutionary instinct that human beings are supposed to have, and yet... And the truth is, that's what all of our soldiers are doing, they're putting themselves between us, all Israeli citizens, and the brutal violence of the terrorists.
On the left and Luis on the right:
Tumblr media
Hamas has made its own announcement about this operation, of course not saying a word about the freed hostages, and instead blaming Israel of committing a massacre. Hamas, which started this whole war by massacring over (at least) 1,200 people, most of which were civilians, and kidnapping over 240 human beings, is accusing Israel of committing a massacre because Hamas says dozens of people were killed (according to the soldiers who engaged in fire with them, there's no question that most of the people killed weren't "uninvolved civilians") during the rescue of the civilians kidnapped by Hamas. Make it make sense. Soap opera logic doesn't make my head hurt as much as that of antisemites.
Yesterday, there were two stabbing terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and near it. The first one happened in the Old City, ending with one person wounded and the terrorist neutralized. The other took place outside the town of Beitar Illit, no one was wounded, the terrorist was neutralized. On a personal note, there's an expert doctor who I've been going to in Jerusalem, and he called me back on a very specific date, but when I called his secretary, it turns out he's fully booked for an entire month past that day. My one option to see him around the date he mentioned, is to go see him at his Beitar Illit clinic. We're talking about a clinic that's 15 minutes from my home, yet right now I feel terrified of going there. It feels like if I go, I may pay for it dearly, and if I don't go, I may pay for it dearly. It's my own country, my ancestral homeland, a place my ancestors, who lived in the same place as I do, weren't scared to travel to. This is not a normal reality, and anyone calling this "resistance" just means they're against Jews having a normal life.
Tumblr media
Once more, a Gazan journalist was revealed to be a Hamas terrorist. This time, it's a man who has been reporting for Al Jazeera (which has a long history of antisemitism), and has now been determined to have been a Hamas senior, developing anti-tank missiles for the terrorist organization. I just wanna point out that anti-tank missiles were fired at homes in Israeli civilian communities, including on Oct 7. Please keep in mind these countless journalist who are also linked with Hamas when you hear the lie that Israel is targeting journalists just for reporting.
Tumblr media
A 21 years old Palestinian, convicted for terrorist acts, who had been released as a part of the hostage deal, was arrested yesterday after trying to infiltrate Israel using a stolen Israeli ID card. This is the third released convicted terrorist I've heard of to be arrested since the hostage deal in December 2023. There might have been more that I missed. This is a reminder that a terrifyingly high percentage of prematurely released terrorist end up returning to terrorist activity in one capacity or another.
Tumblr media
On the same day that Israeli IDF troops courage and willingness to self sacrifice made me cry, we also learned that two soldiers were killed tonight, in a separate (earlier) fight to the one where the hostages were released (in a different part of Gaza). Still, while they might not have been standing physically in front of Israeli civilians, but protecting them is exactly what they did. Every operation that saves a hostage is made possible by the army's presence and progress in Gaza. If soldiers were able to free hostages in the southern part of Gaza, it's thanks to each one fighting (and dying) in the northern parts, too. So today, I'm gonna remember that, as we say goodbye to these two 21 year olds. Our hearts bleed with their families for this loss. May their memory be a blessing.
Tumblr media
These are 32 years old Eynav Levy and her 33 years old husband Or.
Tumblr media
On Oct 7, they arrived at the Nova music festival just minutes before Hamas' attack started. Eynav was murdered, while Or was taken hostage to Gaza. They have a 2 years old baby, Almog. He doesn't understand, and there is no way to explain to him, where his parents have disappeared to. May Eynav's memory be a blessing, and Or return, so his son will still have at least one parent.

The leader of the Choctaw Nation is joining an outpouring of support for the family of a 16-year-old student whose death is being investigated in Oklahoma.
Nex Benedict passed away on February 8, following a physical altercation at a high school the day prior. Chief Gary Batton confirmed that the young student’s mother is enrolled with the Choctaw Nation.
“The loss of a child is always difficult for a community and a family to accept,” Batton said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Although Nex does not appear to be affiliated with our tribe, their mother, Sue Benedict, is a registered member,” Batton continued. “Nex’s death weighs heavily on the hearts of the Choctaw people. We pray Nex’s family and their loved ones will find comfort,” Batton concluded.
Nex’s death has directed widespread attention to Oklahoma, where Republican officials have increasingly adopted policies hindering the rights and freedoms of Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ people. Sue Benedict has embraced her child’s gender identity and has vowed to donate funds to other youth experiencing some of the same struggles.
Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ advocates incorrectly identified Nex as being a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, whose reservation borders that of the Choctaw Nation. Cherokee Chief Hoskin Jr. expressed support for the Benedict family on Tuesday.
“As Chief, the health and welfare of all children within the Cherokee Nation Reservation is of concern,” Hoskin said in a statement.
Nex attended Owasso High School in Owasso, located on the Cherokee Reservation. Local authorities are investigating the death and have said they will forward the results of the investigation to prosecutors in Tulsa County for potential action.
Hoskin has offered the support of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service as the investigation continues. The Owasso Police Department indicated in a statement on Tuesday that interviews would be taking place “over the course of the next two weeks.”
Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R), a Republican who happens to be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, has not spoken publicly about the death. He has repeatedly derided efforts to address diversity, equity and inclusion as discriminatory.
But a senior official with President Joe Biden, a Democrat, has weighed in. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre offered a message of support from the administration in a post on social media.
“Every young person deserves to feel safe and supported at school,” Jean-Pierre wrote on her official government account. “Our hearts are with Nex Benedict’s family, their friends, and their entire school community in the wake of this horrific tragedy.”
“For many LGBTQI+ students across the country, this may feel personal and deeply painful,” Jean-Pierre continued. “There is always someone you can talk to if you’re going through a hard time. Dial 988 and press 3 to reach a counselor dedicated to serving LGBTQI+ young people.
According to the 2023 LGBTQ+ Youth Report, a project of Human Rights Campaign and the University of Connecticut, more than half of transgender and gender-expansive youth feel unsafe at school. In particular, nearly a third said they feel unsafe in school restrooms.
“All students, including trans and gender-expansive students like Nex, have the right to feel safe and protected while attending school,” Tori Cooper, the campaign director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative at the Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement on Wednesday. “That Nex was only 16 years old compounds this tragic injustice and they should have lived to see a fulfilling and authentic life.”
The 2023 study was based on a survey of nearly 3,000 LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-18 nationwide, according to the organization. Some 0.6 percent of respondents identified themselves as American Indian or Alaska Native.
According to Owasso Public Schools, a “physical altercation” took place in a bathroom at the high school on February 7. The Owasso police responded to a local hospital on the same day of the incident.
Police then said they were informed that a “juvenile” was taken back to a hospital on February 8, the same day as Nex’s passing.
