Today in Computer History (02/14/2024):
Today is Valentine’s Day, which means we say a very special happy birthday to the ENIAC! Today, February 14th 2024, the first ever electric, programmable, general purpose digital computer turns 79 years old!
Tumblr media
(Picture via University of Pennsylvania)
Completed in 1945, the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first computer to integrate all its features into one unit. The ENIAC took up more than 1,800 square feet and weighed over 27 ton, and was made up of 40 panels, 17,000 vacuum tubes, 7,200 crystal diodes, 1,500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors, and over 5,000,000 hand-soldered joints. These numbers have gotten bigger over time, of course. Today, a single stick of 4gb RAM has somewhere in the ballpark of 32 billion capacitors.
The ENIAC could perform up to 5,000 additions or 50 multiplications per second, with a clock speed of around 100 kilohertz. It calculated trajectories 40 times faster than humans could. For additional context by modeling calculators, the classic Ti-84 plus (2004), one of the most used calculators to this day, has a clock speed of 15 megahertz, 150 times faster than the ENIAC.
The ENIAC was the first dive into digital calculators in the modern age, retired in 1955 at ten years old. And nearly eight decades later, we now carry devices with calculators in our pockets. The ENIAC was thousands of times bigger than the largest smartphones on the modern market, and part of it is on display at the University of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Office Party
youtube
Further to the short version posted recently, here is the full version.
I think there is such a lovely story to be told here!
So here it is! If I may, please?
The opening scene shows us five women ... X
Sitting together on a quite luxurious sofa! ... X
From left to right ... as we see them ... they are:
(1) Cheryl, (2) Freddie [Frederica], (3) Monica, (4) Stephie [Stephanie] and (5) Saskia.
They are a team.
They are not involved in any (kind of) sexual relationship with one another.
They are the 'Internal Sales Team' of a major supplier of 'Industrial equipment and Consumables' in the United States of America (USA).
Cheryl is 'Team Leader' and reports to the Sales Director, Pamela. The Internal Sales Team support the 'Regional Sales' teams and complement the company's marketing programs.
They are regarded as a 'high performing team' throughout the company.
They have each worked for the company for over five years and none of them have ever taken a day off work sick.
Pamela has always been impressed by Cheryl!
Not only how she applied to lead this team Pamela knew the company needed ... six years ago.
But how all the team Cheryl recruited (on her own, with 'support' from Human Resources (HR)) have stayed and supported Cheryl's team ... and most importantly, the company!
And so ... with Board 'Approval' ... Pamela has granted Cheryl and her team ... the third Thursday of each month ... (not a day off!) ... a 'Training and Team building day" ... all travel, subsistence and accommodation expenses paid (by the company) under the 'Training & Development' budget.
We join the team at midday on their second such meeting ... 'get together' ... but the first at this venue ... a private, serviced suite of rooms which Pamela owns ... which includes this pool ... quite an intimate space, actually!
Cheryl takes a call from Pamela ('Pammy' as Cheryl call her ... 'these days') checking that 'Everything is OK?'
The manner in which Cheryl walks around the pool ... and then ... the wonderfully contrived and choreographed manner in which Cheryl 'slips' and then 'loses her balance' ... and falls backwards into the still waters of the pool is quite exquisite ... so feminine, beautiful ... and perhaps ... ? ... 'Submissive' ... too?
After a while ... Freddie goes to check ... that everything is 'alright' ... and so it is.
But how Freddie giggles ... and then sniggers behind her hand! ... about what has 'happened' to her boss, Cheryl ... and that Cheryl's mobile telephone ('SmartPhone') is ... well, ... fucked!
Cheryl indicates she would like Freddie to help her out of the pool. Poor Cheryl! Or does she mean Freddie should join her?!
It's all so beautifully filmed!
But we see Freddie enter the pool ... I think 'pulled in' ... by Cheryl ... so sweet!
And then Freddie leaves the pool ... and returns to Monica, Stephie and Saskia ... to brief them on Cheryl's predicament ... and invite them to join Cheryl and her, Freddie ... in the pool!
Monica ... apparently ... 'needs little encouragement' ... shoes off! ... she's in!
Stephie ... the thoughtful Stephie ... needs little more encouragement, either! She jumps in too ... but in a 'more reserved way' than Monica.
However, Stephanie soon commits completely!
And then ... Saskia ... the serious one ... who prepares the most complex customer quotations! ... is less sure ... no, unsure! ... no, she's refusing! ... to enter the pool ... in her clothes ... like her colleagues!
But then ... as Freddie deputises for Cheryl ... as so often! ... an informal arrangement! ... Freddie re-assures Saskia ... and in Saskia goes! ... completely! She's in! They're all in! It's lovely! X

Unsold clothing may no longer be destroyed in Europe
Tumblr media
More than 100,000 tons of discarded clothing ends up in a desert in Chile
Europe is putting a stop to the throw-away culture through a ban on destruction[1] and a digital product passport with information about shelf life and repairability. No more mass destruction of clothing and other unsold merchandise.[2]
Every second in Europe, a full garbage truck of clothing is burned or dumped[3]. And every year, an estimated 11 to 32 million unsold and returned garments are destroyed. Europe has been wanting to reduce this gigantic waste for some time. The European Member States and the European Parliament reached an agreement to this end on Monday evening 4-12: Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation[4]. The aim of the 'eco design law' is to make many products more repairable, reusable and recyclable. A product passport and a ban on destruction of unused goods are the key measures.
1. What is a digital product passport?
Consumers are already somewhat familiar with this: the energy label on refrigerators and washing machines gives an indication of their sustainability. That label (or product passport) has had an enormous impact on making those appliances more energy efficient.
The European Parliament and the EU member states now have an agreement to roll out the digital passport more widely and to deepen its content. First of all, almost all products on the European market will have to have such a passport: from car tires and steel to washing tablets and cosmetics to clothing or smartphones. The only exceptions are food, medicine, cars and weapon systems, for which there are separate regulations.
In addition to any energy consumption, the passport also contains information about the origin, composition, repair and disassembly options of the product. This should also make it easier to repair and recycle them. “People can know at a glance which product is the most durable or easiest to repair,” said MEP Sara Matthieu (Green), who was rapporteur in the negotiations.
2. What does the ban on destruction mean?
Initially, the ban applies to textiles. Globally, 92 million tons of textile waste are produced annually. A large portion of these are returned or unsold goods. In two years' time, they may no longer be destroyed, but must be reused or recycled. This ban will eventually be extended to electronics and electrical appliances. Massive quantities of these are also destroyed every year, especially cheaper items that are not sold or have been returned to the manufacturer.
The new rule goes hand in hand with stricter requirements for composition, repairability and disassembly of goods. The details will be worked out product by product by the European administration, but some guiding principles are a ban on adhesives, the absence of toxic substances, the obligation to have spare parts available and, above all, to offer them at an affordable price. The passport should eventually lead to a 'repair score', comparable to the energy label.
Matthieu (Green) expects a huge impact on the consumer market. 'Instead of offering disposable products for mass consumption, companies will offer many more services through robust devices. So to speak, you will no longer buy a washing machine, but an number of wash cycles.'
3. How comprehensive are the measures?
That depends on the control. The product passport is also an important instrument for this. Europe is counting on the famous 'Brussels effect': foreign producers will have to adapt their products if they want to maintain access to the gigantic European consumer market. Although the European consumer organisation BEUC[5] warns against loopholes. The organisation mainly sees a risk that international online platforms such as Amazon or Alibaba will circumvent the new law.
4. Is this agreement now final?
It has already rounded the most important cape. The agreement was finalised in the so-called trialogue negotiations between the European Parliament, the European Council and the Commission. Now it must be approved by Parliament and the Member States, but that counts as a formality.

[4] The proposal for a new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), published on 30 March 2022, is the cornerstone of the Commission’s approach to more environmentally sustainable and circular products. The proposal builds on the existing Ecodesign Directive, which currently only covers energy-related products. https://commission.europa.eu/energy-climate-change-environment/standards-tools-and-labels/products-labelling-rules-and-requirements/sustainable-products/ecodesign-sustainable-products-regulation_en
[5] The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC, from the French name Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs, "European Bureau of Consumers' Unions") is an umbrella consumers' group, founded in 1962. Based in Brussels, Belgium, it brings together 45 European consumer organisations from 32 countries (EU, EEA and applicant countries). BEUC represents its members and defends the interests of consumers in the decision process of the Institutions of the European Union, acting as the "consumer voice in Europe". BEUC does not deal with consumers’ complaints as it is the role of its national member organisations.

Co-op with Coop
On April 1st, I had a visit with the benefactor of my longest friendship Mark Cooper or “Coop” as I called him back in the day. It was April Fools, but this is not a prank and the only fool was me for not snapping a picture to mark the occasion.  Coop and I met sometime around 1979 on the neighborhood streets of what was then called Lakeview Heights.  Growing up in the late 70s and early 80s was one of those amazing times that, looking back on it, I feel so fortunate to have been a part of.  Our upbringing in those days has become solidified in modern pop culture by way of memes, pictures and stories from those who survived that time.  Depictions of kids jumping their BMX bikes over a rickety, hand-made ramp while 6 or 7 hapless friends lay prone beside the warped, plywood slope-- like decommissioned school busses in an Evil Knievel motorcycle stunt-- resonate with our generation on a deep level.  How about the memories of what water tasted like coming out of a garden hose and the reminder to let the water run for a good 30 seconds on a hot day or else you got a mouthful of 90 degree plastic hose-flavored H2O? Mark lived one street over from me in those days and the shenanigans we found ourselves in never ended. We honestly didn’t stop from sun up to sun down (except for the occasional dinner bell or call of nature).  All the kids in the neighborhood had each other’s phone numbers memorized back then there were no smartphone contact pages.  The prefix was all the same and Mark’s # and mine were only 14 numbers apart. His number ended in 5-7-1-1 and mine in 5-7-2-5 and it wasn’t uncommon in those days to know your best friend’s number better than your own. From street hockey matches with anyone that walked by and wanted to join mid-game, to playing tag and kick-the-can in each other’s yards, knocking the pickets out of our fences when we used them as make-shift soccer nets, to pranking unsuspecting families with nicky nicky nine doors and running onto the road and mooning oncoming cars -- there was never a lack of crazy things for a bunch of 6-10 year olds to do back in those days.  We would ride our bikes everywhere we could and usually that was to the local corner store, Grant’s Market, or a little further down the road to the laundromat or video store.  Westside Video Classics was THE place to rent all the latest movies and games back in the day.
Tumblr media
If it wasn’t movies or wrestling, Coop and I bonded over hockey cards (playing scramble,  knock-downs and closeys), making comedy tapes on our cassette recorders (we thought we were a regular Bob & Doug McKenzie duo) and later on playing video games.  At my house I introduced him to the two full-sized arcade machines my dad had bought from a co-worker and put in our rumpus room as he liked to call it:  Super Soccer and Wild Cycle and then later games like Raid on Isram and Cosmic Cruncher on the Commodore Vic-20.
Tumblr media
At his house we played endless rounds of Ring King and Super Mario Bros. 2 on his NES as well as countless hours of board games like Crokinole, Rummoli and Crossbows & Catapults. We had the definitive 80s childhood: trick-or-treating together in our shared neighborhood for years at Halloween time, sleepovers almost every other weekend, birthday parties and endless summer nights of hi-jinx.  We shared in common younger siblings that tried to do everything we did at that time and rivalries with our respective kin that gave us even more to relate to.  Sometime in the early 80s, Coop tattooed the drywall on his bedroom wall, in permanent marker no less, with the inscription:  Best Friend Bobby since 1980.  An homage to a friendship that, at that time, was a few years on but looking back now has been a friendship that has endured nearly 45 years.   To take a page out of his playbook, I mocked my 7up sign to display the following:
Tumblr media
I am getting away from my story. All of this to say that Mark came by to meet the family and check out my game room, but became quickly overwhelmed with it all.  He was audibly giggling from the moment I greeted him at the front door to the moment we made our way down to the ‘Arcade’ and then back up to the kitchen to sit and catch up.  His energy was infectious and I knew that we would likely not be doing a lot of gaming on this visit but rather getting reacquainted and spinning shared experiences from those good old neighborhood days.
Fast forward a week and we got together again and this time we ended up spending a good hour re-living some of those nostalgic times down @ 8bit Bobby’s.  Coop’s one pre-visit request was that he wanted to play some Raid on Isram.  To make this possible, I had to hunt through various backups to find my rom files for the Vic-20 and then figure out how to interface it with my current Hyperspin setup on my M.A.M.E. Arcade machine.  After some tweaking I managed to get it setup and somewhat playable.  The game itself is nothing earth shattering and is essentially a watered-down clone of the popular game Scramble, but, to a couple of 40 somethings reliving the times when they were likely in the 10 and under category, it was pretty neat to play again.  The object of the game is literally survival. You shoot a laser cannon and drop bombs on enemy ground-to-air missiles and fuel refineries. It starts out scrolling left to right in a pretty wide open playfield but as the game wears on the air-to-ground missiles begin taking off and you begin to enter narrow tunnels with what can only be described as flying spiders coming at you.  You can shoot off the stalactites that make the caves a tight squeeze but if you are too busy contending with them you are sure to get hit by the unpredictable and weird trajectory of these squiggle-like arachnid creatures.  Raid on Isram is a “one and done” game meaning you have one life to get as far as you can and then that’s it.  No extra lives, no continues, nothing. THIS was the epitome of gaming back in the days before infinite lives, cheat codes and save states were a thing.
Tumblr media
From here we moved on to some co-op games starting with Golden Axe.  We got swiftly through the first two stages cracking heads and laying the boots to the little magic-stealing gnomes that appear between checkpoints only to have the game freeze without warning.  I have played through several of these games and never had this happen before. It was a definite headscratcher but we were undeterred.  We continued our co-operative game play with the Midway classic, Rampage.  Just like back in the old days when we used to stomp around the neighborhood, we joined forces to destroy buildings, smash tanks and defeat digitized army men as George and Ralph the giant, Kong-like Ape and Wolfman respectively.  We played through 19 “days” or cities and after each one we wondered how long the game went on for.  After a quick Wikipedia search it would appear that the game has 128 days that, when completed, repeat 5 more times. It was good to know that this was a game we were not likely to finish in one sitting. Maybe a future stream event or something?  Pictured below are our two protagonists: Coop & Bobby and in true fashion I am showing my age and lack of tech savviness by being unsure as to where I am supposed to be looking at the camera. I suppose a goofy picture is better than no picture at all.
Tumblr media
This game room of mine and friends like Coop remind me how much of a role nostalgia plays in my life.  The way certain sights or sounds can just transport a person back in time.  I know we are not the same kids who hid in the willow trees on the neighbor’s property, cut through a field and hopped a fence into each others’ backyards with the ease and agility of an Olympic vaulter, and had water balloon fights while eating home-made popsicles to beat the summer heat, but for the hour or so that we connected tonight, we were transported back to a much simpler time. I leave you with the meme pasted below (which came up in conversation during his visit and I think really hits in the gut). Even though we can’t go back to that moment and give it the recognition and closure it deserved we can at least reminisce about what it was like just hanging out and teaming up against whatever was out there.  Co-op with Coop 4 EVA.

Apple's Move to USB-C is Apparently Really Popular with Consumers
Tumblr media
It took some time, but Apple's new iPhone 15 series phones finally ditched the company's own lightning port for the more standardized USB-C hardware format, joining the likes of the MacBook and iPad lines, not to mention countless other Android phones all over the market. With that said, it looks like Apple's latest move has been popular among consumers, especially folks who like to do a bit of reading online. More specifically, data from the folks over at mobiles.co.uk shows that the buzz surrounding Apple's new USB-C-equipped smartphones is nothing to scoff at - more than a hundred thousand news posts about the iPhone 15's new hardware feature have gone live, proving that the move to a more standard hardware connectivity solution - no matter how late - is favourable on Apple's behalf, at least in terms of public awareness and marketing reach. While USB-C ranks as the top dog in mobiles.co.uk's data chart, second place goes to Dynamic Island. The feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 series, and marks Apple's move from its rather divisive notch design, to a more mainstream camera cutout display style also seen on competing Android brands. These aren't the only pre-existing smartphone trends that Apple has adopted though, as the incorporation of AOD (always-on display) on the iPhone 14 series also proved popular, ranking in third place in terms of news posts. Given this new information, it's quite possible that Apple is feeling the building pressure from the competition. While iPhones continue to reign among the world's top-selling smartphones, it's no secret that they're somewhat behind in other hardware and software aspects compared to a multitude of Android phones, especially when it comes to battery technology and camera hardware. Still, the popularity of Apple's flagship handsets is something impressive in itself, amounting to huge sales numbers every year. The iPhone 15 series features four different models, which include the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The Pro models come with new Titanium builds, as well as the new USB-C ports. The phones also feature the new A17 Pro chipset from Apple, which features some promising performance upgrades including ray tracing technology for gaming. Apple even went so far as to announce a handful of console ports for the iPhone 15 Pro series, which include the Resident Evil 4 Remake, as well as Resident Evil Village. Meanwhile, the "regular" iPhone 15 and 15 Plus count as the more wallet-friendly models in Apple's 2023 lineup. They do adapt some newer hardware, and in addition to USB-C the iPhone 15 also features the Dynamic Island camera cutout, as well as an upgraded 48MP main camera sensor, a considerable improvement over the 12MP lens that Apple has used for so long in previous iPhone models. One caveat however is that the base models run on last year's A16 Bionic chip, instead of the A17 Pro as with the Pro models. With all that said, USB-C is a step in the right direction for Apple, and we can only hope that the company adopts more competitive hardware on its future handsets. Buyers can grab the new iPhone 15 series starting at £799 for the base model iPhone 15, and £999 for the iPhone 15 Pro. Read the full article

A Turning Point
"Papa, why have you been typing on your phone for so long? I need the phone to play games." said little Ishan in a mildly irritated tone.
"I'm sending an office mail Ishu, wait for some time", said Anand.
"Why don't you use voice typing, here, let me show you!", said Ishan excitingly, snatching the phone from his Papa.
Holding the big touchscreen phone in his little hands, he held the voice typing button dexterously and started dictating. "I am Ishan. I am teaching Papa how to use phone smartly. "
Anand burst into laughter watching the brilliance of his little kid.
Anand was in his mid-thirties and already a Senior Manager in a big tech company in Bangalore. His wife Amruta was a 'work-for-home' mom which was a full-time job itself except she never got any leaves. Little Ishan was a smart kid studying in Third grade. He recently started going to school after attending Online classes almost for two years. Anand's parents lived in their native village and used to visit once or twice a year. The city life never suited them well.
The family of three had to start their day quite early. Waking up Ishan early in the morning was a challenge. Amruta prepared breakfast and packed tiffin for both Anand and Ishan, while it was Anand's duty to get Ishan ready and drop him to the school bus. Soon after, Anand used to leave for office in his car which was pretty nearby. Amruta used to be all by herself till afternoon till Ishan returns from school. After all household chores are over, smartphone and TV were her best friends. She actually enjoyed this little 'me-time' that she got. After returning from office in the evening, Anand would sit in front of TV watching the stock market news with a cup of tea in one hand while mobile phone in other. This routine of the family rarely changed.
One day though this routine got deviated when Anand's car met with a minor accident while returning from office. There was a small dent and few scratches on the car. Anand decided to give the car to nearby service station for repair and head home walking instead.
While walking down the street, something caught his attention. There was a makeshift toy shop on the footpath below a Pipal tree. Colorful, shiny wooden toys from Channapattna. Different kind of spinning toys, Chinese dolls, musical toys and a train set...
It reminded him of his childhood's wooden train set.
Tumblr media
A piece of art it was. Different types of wagons made of wood with vibrant shiny colors. The wagons were connected together with rounded magnets on the end so that train could turn freely on the curved track. The train was pulled by a motorized metal colored locomotive which would whistle periodically. He recollected how happy he was when his father brought this train set. He had hugged his father tightly and thanked him profusely. Anand wouldn't let anyone touch his special toy and took great care of it. His father would set up the train set for him, carefully joining the tracks together and launching the wagons on the tracks. Once the train would start moving, Anand would also run along the train whistling happily. It was one of the fondest memories of his childhood and he always cherished this time spent with his father.  He could not remember though what happened to this train after he moved to different city for college.
And alas! Here it was now, a similar train set. Anand beamed with joy. Without a second thought, he bought it. He had no doubt that Ishan would love it as well. Anand got it packed carefully, wrapped in a gift paper and set straight to home. He was eager to present this wonderful toy to Ishan. He was hoping to have great time with Ishan playing this train as he had with his father once.
"At least something good came out of today's misfortune", Anand thought to himself.
When he reached home, he started looking for his beloved Ishu, hiding the present behind his back. Ishan was in his room playing mobile games as usual.
"Look Ishu, what I brought for you!", said Anand happily.
"Is it what I think it is Papa?", Ishan asked giggling and jumped off the bed hurriedly to open the gift.
Ishan tore the gift paper to see what is inside and his face fell.
"Do you not like it, Ishu?", asked Anand confusingly.
"It is nice Papa, but I thought you got me the iPad Pro that I wanted.", Ishan confessed.
And then it hit Anand... Their lives revolved around gadgets. He could not remember when the last time was that he played with his son or had a hearty conversation with his wife. Little Ishan already had spectacles due to excess screentime. Due to lockdown, homes became office cubicles and school, mere videos. Catching up with the latest new, fear of missing out on something kept them hooked to the social media. Mindlessly scrolling through the Youtube shorts became a habit. They all had got so engulfed in technology that they forgot the meaning of companionship.  Anand was disheartened but he was awakened now.
Anand held the cup of tea in one hand again, but this time, in his other hand, he held the hand of Amruta instead and asked her "How was your day?", with a gentle smile on his face.

On Saturday morning I drove the eight miles to the meet-up, only to discover that Herndon was having its winter festival, and there was nowhere to park. So I didn't get to game, and went home and watched The Batman instead.
Fortunately, made up for this in the evening, where I got to try Brick & Mortar (2021), which finally and fortuitously arrived on my doorstep about an hour before I had to head for my friend's home. (
This probably my second favorite new game of the year (behind only The Great Wall, which is in my top 5 of all time). It is a medium-weight economic game, although rather than winning by having the most money at the end it features the mechanism (most famously deployed in Clinic) where players must decide how much of their cash on hand to spend buying victory points at the end of each round, a decision that is here also complicated because the tiebreaker for buying and selling goods is being further behind on the VP track. (details and pictures below cut)
This falls into the same category as Keyflower and The Estates, in that the whimsical art is hiding a cutthroat game. (Below: main board/a player board, shop cards, and money cards)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is an extremely heads-up game; you have to be paying close attention to what other players are trying to/capable of doing. When acquiring goods from the wholesale market or selling to customers, players secretly set prices and quantities (where you get early dibs if you buy more dearly or sell more cheaply.
Tumblr media
On top of that, the amount of stock available to acquire and demand from customers is also set by the players, who each have a hand of cards that they prepare behind player screens - either face up to fill the market during supply, or face down to appear as customer demand during sales. Opponent has a monopoly on selling art? Guess nobody but them is putting any cards with art on them in the demand pile, etc.
Tumblr media
In addition to the tight economics, there is a dash of Glory to Rome/Mottainai in this, in that each store is unique and breaks the rules in some small or not-so-small way, so you are also looking for good combos in the shops in your storefront.
The box claims that Brick & Mortar takes 1-2 hours, which is a lie. Even when you're fluent in the rules, figure 1.5-2.5 hours. And while it's technically for 2-4 players, these mechanisms are only going to shine with at least 3 and ideally the full 4. But if you have 3-4 people who will want to play a tight economic game I highly recommend this one. (Complexity-wise, this is a definite step up from, say, Smartphone, Inc. but a step down from e.g. Arkwright or Food Chain Magnate.)

Best Methods to Sell Print on Demand Gadgets Online (Part 1)
Do you adore Apple products? Perhaps you have a strong interest in the most recent laptops or a thorough understanding of cutting-edge smartphones. Whatever the reason, now could be an excellent time to launch an online gadgets store, especially given that the consumer gadgets industry in the United States alone is expected to be worth $2.06 trillion by 2023. However, selling online isn't always easy – and you might find yourself at a loss for where to begin. But don't worry; this ultimate guide to selling print on demand gadgets online will assist you. Continue reading to learn more.

How to Sell Print on Demand Gadgets Online?

1. Source Your Gadgets
You'll need to source gadgets before you can start selling them online. There are several options to consider for this and suitability for your specific goals and situation.

Wholesale
When looking for products for your business, the first place you'll probably look is a gadgets wholesaler – this is how most online and local gadgets stores get their products. On new gadgets, wholesalers will usually offer relatively competitive prices. They're also likely to have a good stock level, allowing you to get the products you need when you need them. Some wholesalers may have minimum order requirements, so consider where you'll store your gadgets before selling them.

Print on Demand Fulfillment
If you don't want to waste time sourcing and storing products, print on demand fulfillment can be a great option. When using print on demand services, your primary goal is to market and sell as many products as possible. When an order is received, it is routed to the company that fulfills it. It reduces storage and eliminates the need to deal with shipping and distribution companies' often complex arrangements. Of course, less effort equals less profit. It can be much more difficult to make a reasonable profit on each product you sell when hiring a print on demand company. That is why it is best to concentrate on volume.

Second Hand
Selling used gadgets can be a lucrative business venture. However, it can take significantly longer than purchasing from a wholesaler or print on demand fulfillment products. You're also dealing with uncertainty about future stock levels, which could make meeting customer demand difficult. However, if you can pull it off, sourcing and selling used gadgets can be very profitable and environmentally friendly. You can find used gadgets almost anywhere, from yard sales, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Amazon.

2. Sell Your Gadgets Online
Touch the surface of the online gadgets business, and you'll discover a plethora of options for where to sell.

Personal Website
Creating your own online store is arguably the best way to sell gadgets online. When you do this, you create a true asset – not to mention one over which you have complete control. Using a market-leading website builder, such as Wix or Shopify, will provide you with all of the tools you need to create a website that you can use to grow your business quickly and easily. Although all online selling platforms have advantages, owning your own site gives you the most room to grow.

Marketplaces
You can sell gadgets on several online marketplaces. The most popular are Amazon and Walmart. Using an online marketplace has several advantages, including ease with payments. However, there are some disadvantages to using an online marketplace. Unlike your website, you do not own the platform, which means you have little control over any changes to it, such as changes in functionality or commission increases.

Social Media
Many major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, now allow you to sell directly to your customers, eliminating the need to link to an external site. It is a great way to tap into your audience's engagement with social media platforms while also leveraging the following and hype you've built on your own social channels. However, there are some drawbacks to using online marketplaces, such as having little control over the platform and how your business operates on it. Most businesses that sell on social media pair it with their online store to expand their reach and make it easier for their customers to buy from them.

Trade-in
A trade-in site is a final option for selling gadgets online. Unlike online stores, marketplaces, or social media, these sites guarantee to buy your products and price them based on the model, age, and condition. You'll usually get a much lower price for your products if you sell them on these sites. They do, however, save you a significant amount of money on sales, marketing, and store setup. These sites can be profitable if you can find cheap second-hand gadgets or shift stock from your online store that isn't selling.
