In the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, Peach and Tiara can be found on the balcony above the entrance to Peach's Castle. Unlike in all other kingdoms in the game, here, Peach will wear one of her several outfits at random every time the area is loaded instead of having a single assigned outfit.

This post is going to contain spoilers for Super Mario Odyssesy. Press J to skip if need be, and tag spoilers if reblogged, please and thank you.

At the end of the game, Mario’s in a Tux, Peach is in her gown and Mario’s walking over and everything is setup to look like he’s about to propose. I don’t think it’s the best time given the hell she just went through, but they’re on the moon and that could be pretty romantic(under different circumstances, bit I digress).

As soon as Mario gets near Peach, Bowser ruins the moment and now both of them are shoving bouquets in her face while shoving each other shoulder-to-shoulder. Yeah, can you honestly tell me you’d stay after going through all of that then having two people shove flowers in your face making you choose, and one of them being someone that kidnapped you and others?

Peach is well within her rights to walk away after that. And Mario is comforting Bowser after she walked off. Yes, lovely, beat up your kidnapper then pat him on the back in sympathy.

Once they get back, Peach and Tiara up and leave to travel the lands they were dragged through so they could actually enjoy them. They’re doing their own adventure/vacation.

Now where it this gets even more stupid for me is with the fans.

There are people that genuinely believe Peach was gonna leave Mario there, with Bowser, on the moon along with all the other kidnapped people. She does say ‘Let’s go home’. Also, the Broodals have ships on the moon as that’s their home planet. Extra also, Bowser would have gotten there with his own airship. He wouldn’t have been stranded.

The common thing is people saying she owes Mario some sexual favors and is a bitch for not putting out after being rescued. Yes, please, go to a recently rescued kidnapping victim and ask if they put out for whoever/whomever rescued them.

One of a few common replies is that ridiculous Peach and Bowser sex game theory and you can fuck on right off with that.

Another is that she doesn’t fight/fight enough when the kidnapping happens. Maybe because she doesn’t want to see her people hurt or land damaged? She can count on Mario to rescue her and knows Bowser isn’t gonna kill her.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a whole other list of issues with how the ending was done in this game along with basic formula for the Mario games like this, but that’s for another post.

At the end of the day, I just want Nintendo to release some DLC where playing as Peach and Tiara is an option. It’s setup perfect for that at least.

Has Nintendo Forgotten about Super Mario Odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey released on October 27th, 2017, and as of September 2020, has sold over 19 million copies worldwide. Despite this amazing success, Super Mario Odyssey (SMO for short) has had no major updates. Personally, the main reason I bought a Switch was because I wanted to see Mario run around in New Dong City! It was an amazing sight to see and overall was an amazing gaming experience. Undeniably, Super Mario Odyssey was a system seller. To see this precious addition to the Super Mario franchise not receive any significant updates is shocking and disheartening.

The only updates SMO has received so far are Luigi’s Balloon Challenge and the (once in a while) new Mario outfits. SURE, new skins are cool for a moment, but it doesn’t provide any real enjoyment; well not an enjoyment that lasts more than 3 seconds.

I wish Nintendo would give us more new worlds to explore, maybe even an update that gives Bowser some revenge, or maybe an update that gives us a chance to explore the worlds as Peach and Tiara. Maybe Peach could have different abilities than Mario (As she usual does #PrincessGoals).

Nintendo please give Super Mario Odyssey fans an update! Paid DLC?! Anything?! PLEASE?

Something I kinda headcanon about Mario and Peach's relationship after SMO is that Peach makes it clear to him that if she wanted to get married, it would only be out of her own will, only when she's ready (which, after the incident, would be YEARS down the line, if at all), and if she proposed to him, once again, if at all.

Under the cut ‘cuz spoilers

I maaaay or may not have a one shot planned feat. the converstation that is BOUND to happen between them two after he got turned down and it has some of these elements, but the primary ones being:

Mario makes clear to her that he’s never gone to her rescue to get anything in return or make her feel pressured to accept his feelings. To him it’s always been about giving her the choice Bowser keeps trying to deny her, and if that means she doesn’t end up with him, he’s just going to have to live with it (this makes me think of that one anime movie tbh. I might despise the ending as the cop-out it is, but the point it makes on courage being born from inconditional love really strikes a cord within me).

Peach explains she NEEDED the trip with Tiara to heal and recover. Coming out of a forced wedding and immediately getting thrown into another wedding proposition really made her panic. I fully agree that she would only marry him when she proposes because it’d mean she’s thought about it and she feels ready.

She also makes clear Mario is fully in his right to say no when she proposes if this time it’s HIM that doesn’t feel ready.

Basically they both reaffirm their feelings for each other and how they haven’t changed but COME ON, that doesn’t necessarily mean they HAVE TO get married at all if they’re comfortable with things the way they are. They give the step when both of them want to, if at all.

Thoughts on Super Mario Odyssey

WARNING MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS AHEAD

To be honest, I’ve had a lukewarm response to all the Mario games I’ve played, excluding the RPGs and Yoshi’s Island. 64 was charming, New SMB DS and Galaxy were decent. But I’d never say they were favorites(but sunshine might be). They were good, but I wasn’t nuts about them.

I was really, really surprised that I loved SMO so much. It’s got some of my favorite things, collecting and open worlds, for starters. But there’s HUNDREDS of moons. I thought I had covered every inch of the worlds early on, but I would pull up the list and NOPE. I MISSED TWENTY.

Second, the worlds were vibrant and gorgeous. I remember going to Shopko to play the demo and I freaked out over the pretty sand in Tostarena and the realistic blocks of ice. There were less graphics freakouts after that, but I had gotten used to the graphics.

The music? Also good. I can’t remember any of the tunes, but I haven’t played the soundtrack alone yet. Still, the music was nice, and I loved going to the 2D sections to hear the 8 bit versions. I did go a bit bonkers when I heard the music for the lava part of the moon. Guitars and brass instruments are my weakness.

The boss fights were good. They were easy to figure out(except when I kept on dying to Bowser spinning around after I punched him) and I only got hurt when I was being stupid. The Bowser fights, the Broodal robot, and the dragon were my favorite bosses. I squeed when I saw the dragon for the first time. I GOT TO FIGHT A GIANT BONA FIDE DRAGON IN A MARIO GAME WOOOOOOO

The icing on the cake was all the little details put in the game. You can hear Bowser roaring and Peach calling for help if you smack the radio. There’s the minigames in every world, the environment and NPCS reacting if you bonked them, the threatening piano music when the shells in the Seaside Kingdom roll past you, the references to other Mario games, the dialogue having a nonsense language when spoken, the photo capture(i screamed when i looked at all the cool features), the characterization of Mario, Cappy, Bowser, and Peach...

The ending of the game was strangely my favorite part. The ominous chiming of the bell, going to the moon(I KNEW WE WERE GOING TO THE MOON WHY ELSE WOULD IT BE ON THE MAP AND IN EVERY SKY AHAHAHA), walking in to see Bowser trying to put this oversized ring on Peach, going to the final lava level, punching my husbando in the face, Mario TAKING CONTROL OF BOWSER, Pauline singing as I clawed my way out of the moon’s core, oh yeah PLAYING AS BOWSER IN A MAIN SERIES GAME, Bowser and Mario both shoving flowers at Peach, and Peach going “you know what guys i’m leaving” and going on a trip with Tiara. My face hurt from smiling. At a Mario game that wasn’t an RPG.

And there’s still end game stuff to do! There’s moons everywhere! More mini games! More outfits! Three more worlds! A music player! This game is a never ending gift!

So yeah this is one of my top five games now. I don’t regret saying that and I probably never will.
