I’m a huge fan of Rune Factory. It seems sort of niche bc when I ask other gamers (I’m a casual gamer, don’t ask me to be on any teams 😂) about it they don’t really know what it is. Enigmatic Elegance: The Lady Death Revelry by Jade Gretz

Moonlight carved obsidian claws across the desecrated landscape. Twisted metal skeletons of factories choked the horizon, their rusted husks spewing plumes of putrid smoke that snaked across the poisoned sky. Here, in the industrial blight of Carrion Flats, lived a symphony of despair, conducted by the insatiable greed of the Steel Baron, a leviathan of flesh and iron who ruled with a whip of molten slag.

Lady Death, her raven wing unfurling against the sickly moon, descended upon this festering wound on the earth. Her obsidian armor, etched with runes of forgotten tongues, gleamed with an unholy light, a stark contrast to the Baron's grotesque opulence. His palace, a monstrous amalgam of gears and bone, towered above the city, a monument to his gluttony and the suffering he devoured.

Tonight, Lady Death was the reaper of reckoning. The cries of the downtrodden, the choked gurgles of children choked by polluted air, they echoed in her veins, fueled her crimson rage. With a guttural snarl, she plunged into the underbelly of Carrion Flats, a swirling vortex of shadows and screams.

The Baron's goons, brutish automatons stitched from scrap and despair, swarmed her like gnats around a fire. Their rusted claws scraped against her armor, sparking showers of obsidian dust. Lady Death laughed, a cold, echoing sound that sent shivers down the spines of even the grimmest denizens of this underworld. Each swing of her scythe, a whisper of bone and obsidian, carved them asunder, sending them clattering back into the oily rivers that gurgled through the streets.

She fought with the grace of a predator and the fury of a storm. Through twisted alleyways and smoke-choked factories she carved a path, leaving a trail of mangled metal and scattered gears in her wake. The air crackled with necromantic energy, the very shadows twisting and writhing at her command.

Finally, she breached the Baron's iron gates, the clatter of her arrival drowning out the cacophony of the factory floors. His laughter, a grating grind of gears and bellows, boomed from within.

ANOTHER FUCKING IDENTITY V AU WHAAAAT (identity v x rune factory frontier)

I groan and my eyes gently flutter open. A young nurse is hovering over me. My eyes shoot open. surprised, I scurry backwards on the bed, my hands clutching the thin, white sheets beneath them. "Oh! Your awake!" The woman exclaims, a bit surprised. I look at my surroundings seeing I'm in a hospital bed, In a small room with a few other empty beds. I quickly look up at the girl again, still trying to process what's happening. "Where...am I...?". The nurse quickly replies "a young lady in this town found you collapsed in front of her house". I blink a few times, then snap back into reality. "O-oh...." I manage to say, fixing my glasses, a bit unsure of how to reply. "What's your name sir?" The young lady asks. My name....? What...what is my name?? "I-I'm...I...umm...I don't know...". "Oh dear..." she looks down at me again and asks, a bit worried "do you remember anything at all??". I look down "no...". The nurse was about to reply, but our conversation was interrupted by a man walking in through the front door. I turn my head towards the door, my eyes met with another man's. He was tall, had pale, white, skin. Slanted eyes and a long, black braid coming from his head resting gently on his back.

I walk into the room to have my eyes met with Lara, the town nurse, and trainee nun. But there was also someone else. A boy in one of the usually empty hospital beds, his green eyes staring into mine. A brunette with glasses and freckles plastered all over his cheeks, a rather scrawny boy. Lara notices Me. "Oh, Wijiu, Here for the cold meds for bi'en I presume?". Ah yes, My dearest friend bi'en is down with a cold unfortunately, I told him he shouldn't stay up and over work himself. I smile softly "yes...but er...who is this?" I glance over at the shy boy. "Oh, this is the guy who collapsed in front of mist's house yesterday. I'm afraid he has amnesia, he can't seem to remember anything." I look away from Lara, who is now occupied searching through the medicine cabinet for the cold meds, and turn my attention to the boy on the bed. I fix my gaze on him and ask "so how bad do you think the amnesia is?". She replies, not bothering to look up from the cabinet she was currently searching through "he says he doesn't remember a single thing, not even his name...when mist brought him here he was bleeding from the back of his head. My guess is that he must have hit his head somehow and that probably is the cause for his memory loss." I reply, still looking down at the boy who is shyly looking back up at me "I see, so where will he stay?". "At the inn I assume, that is if he has any money in that bag I found with him".

After I hear that sentence I look over and see a leather satchel near the bed, and pick it up to dig inside of it, desperately trying to find some money, any money. At last I feel a few round shaped, metal-like textured items in the bag and pull out a small handful of coins. "Oh, thank goodness..." I sigh. I see the nurse study the coins in my hands with her brows knitted into a slight frown. "Hmmm, not much...looks like it should only last you a week. And not counting paying for food!". I sigh, a bit worried. "W-well can't I just sleep outside?". The nurse Shakes her head "it would be dangerous for you to sleep outside, especially being unarmed". I tilt my head "why??". "It's not safe with the monsters that wander around at night". Monsters?!?! I shoot a surprised look "wait, monsters are near this town?!". "Yes, and they can be quite dangerous" the nurse says as she hands wijiu the meds. I sigh, a bit anxious. What will I do...?

Looking at the boy in panic, my heart can't help but melt with sadness for him. Bi'en won't be happy, but he'll be fine. I give into it, which is rare for me, but I look at nurse Lara and then back at the boy and say "listen, if you use the money to cover your medical bills, then I will let you work for me. And in return I offer shelter, and you can use the extra money for food". With that said, I can see the boys expression visibility light up. He looks up at me "really???". He looks so relieved, I can't possibly turn him down now. "Yes, we'll discuss your work once I get you settled in my home, we have a guest room. So you can stay there" I say, trying not to show much expression.

Here's a query for YOU: who do you think Lynette befriends first outside Guna and Mist in Kardia? And who does she befriend first of HER own volition?

I love this ask so much you don't even know.

For some clarity; for most Rune Factory games, when it comes to their protagonists and the possible love interests, I usually headcanon their ages as older than the game(s) hint at them being. So keep that in mind, and maybe add between 5 to 8 to even 10 years to your headcanon age. [I won't name any numbers, and that'll just lock me into my own math.] But treat these folks as their prime adult selves after the events of the first game, not ""kids""~

Mist is obviously the "friend whether (you) like it or not." Raguna is roped in by that genuine, adorable charm and Lynette would fall for it, too. Look at her, a second person so ready to extend care and forgiveness... And Lynn will just have to accept it and begin to move on into her new life. It's the easier choice. Better than feeling so goddamn sorry for herself (or worse, as we saw the lengths Ethelbard was pushing her to). Even if it feels strange being in such a tight knit and supportive environment, and even if she'll look for cracks that prove it's all a lie.

After Mist, though, once she forces herself to try and live in a new place...

Lara and Tabatha and Jasper wind up becoming nice to talk to.

[ With a bonus of Sabrina and Godwin, with the questions of Newmann and Felicity. ]

Lara likely puts up a furious air at first, How many people could have been hurt, how many HAD as those stupid things were put around town... (Not to mention those RUMORS that spread about how Raguna lost his memory....) but quickly comes to realize that Lynette was involved, but not solely, entirely responsible. Not to mention she sees Lyn as someone who is... Tired. Dragging themselves through every day. Lara gives a deep sigh. So. She aids this new member of the town under the promise that Lynette helps others as she tries to help herself. While those medical visits become less and less, both women can't help but cross the street and seek one another out to talk. They may not have much in common when it comes to interests or tastes, but. It's nice. Sometimes you don't need all that. A connection can just be there.

Tabatha and Jasper feel like easy conversation. Both are used to more sharp natured persons, so they wouldn't be offended. And both don't put stock in local prejudices, political lines, and the nonsense of governing bodies (Jasper with his ties to the Sainte-Coquille business affairs, and Tabatha connected to that+comparing to her original home). I feel like both would be very quick to see past where Lynette is from, and her previous "occupation."

Jasper is such a kind and happy fellow. I could see him just wanting to know about what it was like as a person in Sechs Aristocracy, if it's similar to what he's heard from x, y, z.... Asking Lyn about her life, not job, probably helps break some ice. Maybe Lynette gets to gossip about petty, tiny things that she hadn't gotten to enjoy before. And how about that line of meats from those critters native to the heart of the empire...? Oh Jasper NEEDS some of those cuts- marinated in a very specific way, Lynette swears on her life (and it's just a joke this time).

And Tabatha? She's so calm. So soothing. She won't force Lyn to talk, but will listen when the other dares to break the silence. She seems to know how to enter a conversation and could find the perfect, small gift to make someone's day. I've drawn Lynette before in alternate clothing before so she's not in her military gear, and I stand firm that Tabatha made that set. They're good for the local weather, they're made of comfortable, fine material... and it's got to feel better not being in something that made Lynette stand out so much.

Bonus in Sabrina and Godwin, who are names that wouldn't leave me alone when thinking about this.

Godwinnn. He's skeptical and rightfully so, but as everything calms down, he has to take a chance. It's either hold that grudge and be retaliatory forever, which would strongly influence those looking at him for his decision, or choose to trust this person and get back to some semblance of older life. He prefers the peace of the latter, and is rewarded- especially when she does find her own pattern in the town. In fact, he's able to, well, "forget" about her, in a good way. She's a face he'll greet with an "Oh-! Didn't know you were coming, how are things?" since he doesn't hear much about her. But it's a positive feeling. A hearty greeting. Not just a nod and a walk past.

(She has to be brought up in tangent given our affinity for her, as well, but Felicity was watching that decision- and she's. It's not that she didn't support the decision, and she doesn't think it was the wrong choice... but Felicity's going to need to see some effort and proof. This is a risk. Like Lara, but a deeper rooted feeling. Stronger if she's paired with Raguna, as she'd hear those rumors, and be disgusted by them. But she could be won over, if more slowly, as her patient FP/LP mechanic implies.)

I feel like, for some reason, Newmann would keep some distance, questioning Godwin's decision, while Sabrina would be able to immediately see this new townsperson means no harm. Sabrina keeps an open seat at the bar and the restaurant and could act as a conversation or a buffer- detract attention from some of those who haven't yet become comfortable with their new neighbor. Sabrina doesn't care for bullshit, and she's got a good example to set for her son. I almost wish Lynette were a jump older still, as these two could've been a fun freaking dynamic!

Double bonus; Ivan hates the living daylights out of her and there is absolutely no recovery, due to my headcanon of him having witnessed Raguna's abduction before his memory loss. Lynette also knows who Ivan really is, she'd done her research. This is a pact to act civil among civil people. That's it.

I know I've joked about not absolutely adoring RF4's characters as much as most people, but one thing it did that I appreciate was those conversations you could trigger if multiple towns people are standing near one another in a scene/on a holiday/etc. It'd be fun to get others talking not to Raguna, but to each other, to hear what they'd think. Early game, invasion time, post game...

RF1s. Please. I'm begging you.

Headcanon: Combat Prowess

I’ve been wanting to go into this with a lil’ headcanon on how Raguna fights and how his ‘stats’ would be defined in my portrayal. To start off- maybe I’m being a bit of an ass to him because of the age of his games compared to the others in the Rune Factory series but he’s a much different fighter than say- Frey/Lest or Micah (and ESPECIALLY Aden holy shit) where they can move in and out of combat and use hit and run tactics. That isn’t going to happen as smoothly or skillfully with this farmboy. When he’s in the fight he’s in it.

Raguna is very surefooted with his stance and attacks, but is also slower as a result. Low agility also means his reaction times aren’t sharp like a rogue’s. To offset this he is tanky as all get out. His fortitude and natural defenses mean he’ll take a lot more hits before he goes down or even staggers. Not to mention that he’s able to use his magic/earthmate abilities to passively draw energy from the natural surroundings to sustain him further if need be. This type of defense isn’t sure fire and can be interrupted by other types of magic or forcing a stagger.

He’s invincible with the power of friendshi--nah I’m just kidding. Invincibility is boring.

With melee combat he will utilize a two handed sword that he can use both offensively and defensively. The strikes are slow but made with determination and confidence. There’s a lot of force put behind each one, and he can fell multiple foes with a sweeping strike. Yes, he also has the whirlwind move from Frontier because it’s required and functions as a great defensive move when he adds his magic into the mix.

Thus, it should be said that he’s fairly limited when it comes to ranged attacks. He’s not proficient with a bow or throwing weapons, which makes his tankiness all the more necessary when he needs to close the gap between himself and enemies that would seek to exploit this. I touched on it with an ask about his magical abilities, but he’s attuned to the elements of earth and water, and uses them both for different purposes.

Earth magic is used for short range scuffles where his sword may not be quick enough or he needs more bludgeoning power to deal with armored foes. Stone fists, drill punches, short range quaking stomps and in the peak case he can send out eruptions of spires at a medium range. This would be considered a high risk high reward move given its large telegraph and slow speed.

Water magic is used for healing spells and for long range- and is usually the only thing he’ll have in his arsenal for distant or airborne foes if he isn’t gonna try something stupid like throwing his sword at them. It’s a possibility! You never know. The offensive water moves are water lasers that can be fired in place or swept a short distance for a slash. The offensive impact is unfortunately low. And they’re better used for temporarily disabling or interrupting enemies while he closes the distance through other methods.

Last itty thing to touch on would be items and potions. You can assume he has an assortment of things at the ready when he’s out adventuring or exploring in his utility kilt. Vitamin rich rations for restoring stamina without having to tap into his Rune supply. Potions for quick boosts of health and remedies for various ailments like poison and seal. These items are all personally homemade in a small laboratory that is attached to his homestead much like the small personal forge where he works on his tools and weapons. Being that they aren’t professional or extra high grade, their effectiveness would be medium and not something that can be relied on for a full heal or clearing deadly venoms. They’re for staving off immediate failure in battles of attrition and that is not a desirable case.
