You sit in Café Nervosa, nursing your coffee and contemplating the wreckage of your recent breakup. The echoes of arguments and slammed doors reverberate in your mind, leaving you wondering what went wrong. As you absentmindedly stir your coffee, Roz, sensing your gloom, slides into the seat across from you, a mischievous glint in her eye.
“Okay, spill it,” she demands, taking a sip of her own coffee. “What's got you looking like a kicked puppy?”
You sigh, deciding to unburden yourself to your ever confident friend. “It's the breakup, Roz. I can't shake the feeling that I'm the problem. Am I a terrible partner? A bad kisser, maybe?”
Roz arches an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling with what you knew was about to be a crazy idea. “Bad kisser, huh? Well, there's only one way to find out.”
You try to keep a neutral expression, but you can’t help how your eyes widen at her suggestion, your mind reeling with the possibilities of what she could mean. Not wanting to jump the gun, you played dumb. “How?”
Roz smirks and before she even tells you, you realize that what you thought was exactly right. “We'll cut to the chase. I'm going to kiss you, and we'll see if there's any truth to this bad kisser theory. What do you say?”
The absurdity of the proposal catches you off guard, but a small smile tugs at the corner of your lips. You try not to let her see it. She was your friend. She didn’t need to know about the massive crush you had on her. Instead you try to blink back any look of surprise. Then it hits you. “Wait, you're really going to kiss me?”
Roz grins, leaning back in her chair. “Do you know a better way to answer your question?” She had you there. You shook your head no. “So, are you in,” Roz asked.
Despite the unconventional nature of the proposal, you find yourself intrigued and, surprisingly, a little flattered. “Alright, Roz. Let's do it. Kiss away.”
With a mischievous gleam in her eye, Roz leans in, and the café seems to fade away as she plants a brief, confident kiss on your lips. You suddenly feel a little dizzy. Pulling back, she smirks again as you open your eyes and bring her back into focus. “Well I'd say you're far from a bad kisser. In fact, I might need a second opinion just to be sure.”
You're left sitting there, momentarily frozen in time, coffee cooled and forgotten, a mix of shock and amusement on your face as Roz chuckles. It seems your friend has managed to turn a sour day into a good one.
Finally, your faculties returned to you. “I can do better,” you promised.
“That so? Alright, round two.” This time you didn’t let Roz back away so soon and you were able to really kiss her back. It was your turn to smirk when you spotted the flush that colored her cheeks.
“It’s most definitely not a you problem,” Roz concluded.
