WHY IS RHYS SO WHITEWASHED IN SOME PANELS? Like, the man is black.

but in some panels he is like, white

Like, I know that color theory is a thing but like, you cannot tell me that these folks have the same skin color.

I know that the art is a bit... racially ambiguous (mostly due to the fact that a lot of the anime artstyle has same face syndrome and refuse to go into an other ethnicity other than asian and white.) but he's black? Was that just me?

apologies for any inaccuracies with his skintone, it's hard to get an accurate version of it with the pictures on the wiki, it's all very... purple, or he's in the shade/scene-specific lighting so it's not accurate

I'm finding that most of my MID redesigns are just... interps of their canon designs lmao.

speaking of, however, some Daemos hcs, mostly Rhys specific.

Daemos have blue blood, so for them, blue is the colour of danger and passion due to it's close affiliation with blood and such. This means that the Daemos have a more blue tinge to their skin, as well as blush blue/purple. The longer they live on earth, however, the pinker they get.

Rhys having blue/purple horns is kind of seen as intimidating because of this. Which is obviously a bit of a helping hand in Daemos society, but his horns are also asymmetrical, which isn't per beauty standard in Daemos society.

He keeps his hair short because of how close his horns sit next to his scalp. It's just easier.

he has sideburns bc i was staring at his skin for too long.

He's easily one of the more traditionally masculine of the Daemos in terms of fashion, mostly due to the fact he doesn't have the more showy-offy tendancies of Asch and Leif.

He wanted dress pants, he was denied.

He once saw Mrs Oates reading a book and asked if he could borrow it once she was finished because he didn't have access to any of his own. Did not realise what the genre was until it was far too late, but he continued reading it anyways under the guise of... uh... 'cultural research'.

he has a very fleshy tail, which makes Ava very uncomfortable, but is looked highly upon in Daemos culture due to how uncommon it is.

inline with the Asch!Harem of the rewrite, he originally held a professional curiosity about Asch because of the more potent magic in the royal line, and was interested in studying his magical capabilities. He was then fascinated by him, and then that slowly developed into a small crush. He's very professional about this too.

bisexual, never been in a relationship or even entertained the idea of one. He is married to his studies, after all.

Rhys has the least split tongue of the Daemos. the split is about half an inch, leaving room for him to have a tongue piercing.

I always hated that aphmau’s (or Jessica idk I haven’t watched her in years aside from revisiting MiD) ONLY black character is Rhys. And I just KNOW not a SINGLE black person was in the room/call with her when designing him (or whoever designed him) because his hair is ATROCIOUS. Like, I read somewhere that they were originally gonna give him dreads, and I’m like “WHY DIDNT THEY GIVE HIM THAT INSTEAD OF THAT GOOFY FLOOFY LOOKING HAIR!?” I get it if it was hard to model in a skin for Minecraft, but if that’s the case why not give him cornrows?💀

like I’ve always been a fan of aphmau before she REALLY started pertaining to the itty bitty kids that watch her channel and it’s kinda disheartening that my race isn’t represented well in ANY of her series (aside from one I think? But I heard it FLOPPED) Not only that, Rhys gets like, the least love out of any other Daemos😭 I love him but it’s hard to find anyone else who’s post isn’t from like MONTHS ago. (Like srsly it’s really rare to find someone who’s fav character is Rhys) And he’s SO underdeveloped. That’s a problem with every character that Aphmau’s ever wrote though. ESPECIALLY her male characters like they act like children when they’re FULL GROWN ADULTS. But I feel with Rhys it’s especially apparent cus his only character trait frfr is “smart fella not a fart smella” and like dang give him something else to work with😭

I also would’ve loved if they would’ve let the daemos find out the culture of some of their races. Cus I know Rhys favorite rapper would’ve been Kendrick and he would choke out Noi if he ever said “Eminem’s better cause he raps faster!” Just a small tiny rant though this was just something that bugged me.

I came to a realization about My Inner Demons the aphmau series.

the daemos + ava? theyre the divine warriors from mcd. theres six of them and ok hear me out. Ava is irene obviously. Rhys is Enki (the keeper), Pierce is Esmund (the protector), Asch is either Shad (the destroyer, opposite to irene) or Menphia (the fury). Noi and Leif could go either way, they could each be Kulzac (the wanderer), but Leif could also be Shad. 👍

i will always stand by the headcannon Asch and Rhys were the prettiest out of the Deamos. Yeah, the others were /handsome/ but they were pretty. I think maybe it's the royal themes they both share but they both give "model pretty" vibes.
