Okay, it shouldn’t be salty, so I’ll make a bowl with less salt just for you. I want to eat the same soup as you.

Drama Review: Recipe for Farewell
Tumblr media
I just recently finished watching this wonderful drama and thought I’d write some of my thoughts about it. The story is about Chang-Wook (Han Suk-Kyu) who works as a translator and humanities instructor and his wife Da-Jung (Kim Seo-Hyung) who suffers from terminal bowel cancer. Da-Jung asks him to cook for her every day and although Chang-Wook doesn’t cook, he followed recipes and picked fresh food and the best ingredients for his ill wife.
This tells a story about a man who loved his wife despite their differences and stayed beside her to take care of her.
Tumblr media
I really loved how Han Suk-Kyu made dialogues in this drama. I’ve watched him in Dr. Romantic 1 & 2, and loved his performance. I loved how this drama was able to convey each of the characters’ emotions, flaws, and faults as well as their softness and vulnerability. Through the episodes, it showed how his skills in cooking got well and over time he didn’t need the help of a recipe. He also logged his cooking in his blog.
I think it was just okay to give Kang Jae-Ho (Jin Ho-Eun) a bit of a story in this drama and it could work too, without it. Though I think they did it to show how it will affect his life after the passing of his mother and showed that there are a lot of people who are there for him to help.
I’ve watched Kim Seo-Hyung in Mine and really loved her acting and I was surprised in her performance here. It’s nothing heavy but she portrayed her character really well.
What got me in to my feels was when they took a family picture for the first time and hang it on the living room. It made the place feel alive. I just realized that we also didn’t have a nice family photo in our house so one of the things on my wish list is to get our family photo taken at a studio and hang it in our living room.

This is a slice of life drama and is based on a true story. It’s nice to watch something that is close/connected to reality. It was beautifully wrapped up.

Recipe for Farewell Review
"Sadness always follows us around like our shadows. But I write because I want to share joy and not sadness." - Kang Chang Wook
Tumblr media
Kang Chang Wook and Jung Da Jung have gotten divorced but recently found out that the wife has cancer.
He returns to live with her and learns to make different dishes for her.
This drama is so wholesome: the food making is very interesting, and how the husband tries every time. Seeing the family getting closer to each other was heartbreaking but just so beautiful to watch.
And as Chang Wook says, he wants to bring joy rather than just sadness. The drama does a good job of pulling a few fun moments in between the sad ones.
I found this drama to be healing in some ways but quite slow... This is mostly my preference, so if you like watching more sentimental dramas than action, this might be for you.
The characters are also very interesting. At first, I did not get the son's perspective because everything is surrounded by cooking and cancer. However, after a few episodes, I warmed up to him.
I also really enjoyed the relationship between Chang Wook and Da Jung, they had great chemistry together.
Overall, if you want something a bit more calm this is a great drama. It is a bit sad and talks about cancer a lot but it's great.
8/10

recipe for farewell episode 5
from starting this show to finishing the 5th episode made me do a lot of thinking. i just love how this show is being produced + the meaning behind the actions of each character
cooking food for the ones you love, trying to mend something that might not even be able to be mended. in these episodes changwook claimed that he doesn't know what his relationship with dajung is but from these episodes; it may as well be love. love can be expressed in many ways and although there's a valid reason why he's been acting this way, going out your way to blog his cooking experiences by making healthy foods for his wife is what we can call love.
kim seohyung who plays jung dajung is one of my favourite actresses, i loved watching her in 'nobody knows', 'mine' and obviously we can't forget her performance in 'sky castle'. i love her character in this show, dajung has a personality which doesn't like to be reliant on others so when she realises she's quite sick. she has to have an extra layer of support to be able to stand up like she did before. this will be interesting to see in further episodes on how she copes during her journey. i'm really excited to watch further.
but also throughout the episodes, unspoken emotions have been portrayed: desperation, anxiousness and isolation. dajungs son jaeho expresses these emotions so clearly with just his eyes. you can really tell how much he loves his mum just from the smallest interactions. in the scene where he was following his girlfriend, yeojin, around which led to him breaking down about how he truly feels about his mother's condition put a hole in my heart. jin hoeun who plays this character has done an amazing job at portraying this character, seeing him previously play bullies and characters that aren't the brightest, it's nice to see him portray a different type of character - unlike any he's done before.
i'm not ready for the next 7 episodes, i just want them to be happy and live happily ever after. but at the end of the day, these are based on real life experiences - those who have family who have suffered from cancer, my thoughts are with you all.
treasure your memories, treasure the experiences you share with your family and friends.

when i started watching Agency i couldn't imagine i'd end up enjoying it so much, probably the most i've enjoyed a kdrama this year. really did not see that coming
Strangers Again kept me entertained but i fast forwarded a bit through the last few episodes. the lead actors (i loved Kang So Ra in Misaeng and it was nice to see her again, while the male lead was an unknown. those eyes! soulful, someone said) were great and had just the right chemistry of two people who had known and loved each other for years, and i think this drama could have been really good if it had dug deeper and meandered less. to its credit, it ended how i hoped it would. all in all, not a waste of time but not something i would watch again either.
now, how the makjang of Red Balloon will end this weekend, i can't predict. my ardent wish to see everybody burn is still very much ardent. i can't believe i'll finally be free of it. human condition, so much human condition. let's kill them all, because they are too real and recognizable
the first two episodes of Call It Love were good. well done show, luring me in with all the My Mister stuff (i laughed when it turned out that Woo Joo, while dressed almost exactly like Ji An, did not possess her stealth and ingenuity. and why would she). no, seriously, they were good, and not nearly as depressing as some comments made it out to be. but surely we can't trust it yet. never trust a tv show. it will find a way to let you down. anyway, will definitely watch next week. i am mildly curious as to what this relationship will be like, but tbh for a drama with 사랑 in the title, that's the last thing i'm finding interesting about it for now. side note: the person who came up with the idea of using this god awful purplish filter and all those who thought it was a good idea should be forced to wear tinted glasses of this color for the rest of their life, even in the shower. and see all their dreams through this filter too.
CCIR: i would watch Kyung Ho (hey stupid android stop autocorrecting, he is not a lying ho) and Jeon Do Yeon, and the four teens being cute for ten hours straight, but i think it's safe to say we all know what's coming. the honeymoon is over! oh well. someday i will get my proper middle-aged romance. as it is, you're just making me want to watch Should We Kiss First? again. i mean, SWKF has terminal illness BUT NO ONE FUCKING DIES. also i love it smth silly.
OH! speaking of which, i almost forgot. i did finally watch Recipe for Farewell a few days ago. well, three episodes of it. now this one is definitely my thing, terminal illness notwithstanding. i only stopped myself because it was almost 7am and i wanted to binge the rest (and i will. it's so nice to know i have it waiting for me)
