i did it… i finally finished the english->arabic course
only took me three years give or take 😅
#well. until the next update hopefully#bc imo this course is very limited#it only teaches two tenses and it doesn’t even touch on the dual pronouns or any of that#and it’s quranic/classical so you learn all the short vowels which doesn’t help you learn colloquial arabic#which makes sense as an msa course but still#and all of the helpful grammar charts and vocab lists are hidden or only found on the pc format which is super inconvenient#they also need to make changes on the last few units or so bc those were just dozens of the same few lessons each time#and it was very annoying to not be learning anything new for a large chunk of this course#ever since the last update removing the tree it all got messed up and claimed i made further progress than i actually did#so. next step i should probably get proper grammar books and avtually practice with my colleagues#duolingo#languages#arabic#my posts

I feel like.. people are extra sensitive when it comes to Islam.. me included tbh... A person brings a bible for example to a place idk... swearing an oath. It's nothing but change it with Quran and u start thinking?? what?? why? Islamist? Church? In some countries there are a lot of churches... ok it's just culture. mosque? it means something so much stronger. No no, we don't want that.
It's linked to terrorism. ISIS and all give a bad bad name so I understand... rn radical Islam is much more of a threat... but sometimes it's jarring reading people talking abt christianity in their lives bc change it with islam and thats.. a pretty religious life.

I still feel a lot of shame in that I can’t bring myself to hold or read the Quran or to pray because of how much dread and anxiety it brings me. Funnily enough I’ve been able to approach Allah via Christian and Jewish mysticism and theology but that’s more of a periphery understanding than anything, and it’s not where I want to end off on. But every time I even think of being in Muslim spaces or even practicing in private I get so bone-deep scared. I wish my mother knew just how much she pushed me away from my faith with everything she did to me.
#i can't even listen to recitation of the quran without remembering the beatings or feeling a deep sense of dread#i tried renouncing my faith to cope but that just left me feeling incredibly empty. it's so frustrating#and of course being gay complicates things because unfortunately there is not a single muslim space i could be out in#i dont even want to be out! i just want to exist without having to hear the eventual conjecture about gay and trans people being abomination#and ofc as long as i live with my parents i wont be able to reconcile my faith bc they always make it their business to remind me how i've#apparently forsaken allah and our cultural values LMAO#it just makes me sad. i hope i can be secure in my faith one day but until then#im going to keep swinging between resentment for myself or for my faith#at least i can maintain my faith in grace and justice if nothing else. because isnt that foundational in the end?

#one thing about me i dont give gifts often but i do give them and theyre always meaningful#bc i'm not especially creative or insightful in these things#so the ones i do give are thoughtful and precious. meaning if we were really really good friends for a while it's likely#i've given you such gifts#and (this has so far luckily only happened twice) when there's a friendship break up#i'm left to think if those gifts are haunting for them? bc mostly i won't have that issue for myself. i dont really receive gifts#i've been thinking about my recent friendship break up in this regard these days#for the record she fucked up and she ended it for that reason#and since then i'm left to think of the few precious gifts i've given her and how she looks at them now#how she was looking at them while she was intentionally ghosting me for months#and every day i remember another gift i had given her lol#a little self made bowl painted like her fav fruit. a cup holder she had told me had been so practical. a postcard saying wish you were here#a pretty classic hardcover from her fav author. a poem i had written her myself#and probably some other things i cant recall#when i make gifts it'w always at random times. not for birthdays or whatever#i just think of an idea or spot an item and i know i want to gift it to them#years ago when me and my then bff fell apart i thought about a gift i had given her#a notebook each page filled with another uplifting hopeful quote or quran verse i had written inside myself#whatever. i still feel heavy hearted of course and i pray for Allah to heal it#nesi rants
