Kharge Holds Consultations with Mamata, Leaders of Opposition Parties on Presidential Poll
Kharge Holds Consultations with Mamata, Leaders of Opposition Parties on Presidential Poll
A day after the presidential poll schedule was announced, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday held consultations with West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee as well as leaders of the DMK, CPI, CPI-M and the AAP for putting up a joint opposition candidate. Sources said Kharge talked to Banerjee over phone and that the Trinamool Congress…

Aldous J. Pennyfarthing at Daily Kos:
Just two weeks after Donald Trump urged radical leftists to vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. this November—because “he’s got some nice things about him” and “I happen to like him”—he’s suddenly taking a different tack.
In the wake of new polling suggesting RFK Jr. would siphon more votes away from Trump than President Joe Biden, Trump is stablin’ and geniusin’ up a storm, taking to his perpetual prevarication platform Truth Social to knock the wind out of the independent candidate’s campaign. His latest tirade comes just days after Trump claimed RFK the Lesser could hurt both major party candidates but “he might hurt Biden a little bit more.” On Friday night, as Trump dithered between wishing his wife a happy birthday or lauding South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for her new and courageous puppy-murdering stance, he suddenly swung in an entirely different direction: claiming the guy he once praised as “very smart” and a “very good man” is actually a total disaster. And not because RFK Jr. would be forced to attend state dinners in a giant acrylic hamster ball to avoid infecting other world leaders with smallpox. No, it’s because Trump—and Republicans as a whole—are suddenly very nervous that Kennedy will loosen Trump’s once-reliable hold on the demon sperm vote.
As Daily Kos noted Tuesday, new polling from NBC News shows Kennedy support at 13%—but notably, he “picks up 15% of Trump's support in the head-to-head while attracting only 7% of Biden's original voters.” But that’s not all! In the Marist poll, Kennedy gains a point; and “17% of Trump voters threw their support behind Kennedy in this poll, compared to 11% of Biden voters.” [...] Trump’s latest rants represent a stark departure from what he was saying just last year, after it was revealed that former Trump adviser Steve Bannon had spent “months” recruiting RFK Jr. to run against Biden and serve as a “useful chaos agent.” In June of last year, when RFK Jr. was still running as a Democrat, Trump said he was a “very smart guy,” a “good guy,” and a “common sense guy.” He even lauded the Kennedy scion’s allegedly robust poll numbers, saying, “He’s a very good man and his heart is in the right place, and he’s doing really well! I saw a poll, he’s at 22. That’s pretty good.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has increasingly targeted his campaign to MAGA-curious messaging to appeal to disgruntled Trump voters, and that has Donald Trump shaking in his boots because indications that RFK Jr. will poach more from Trump than Joe Biden.

The author of this poll does not wish to influence anyone's votes, but would like to remind you of the following facts
Vermin Supreme came in 3rd place at the 2020 Libertarian National Convention, two heartbeats away from being a nationally recognized candidate who would have then come in third place behind Joe Biden and Donald Trump (Steve Kornacki would have had to talk about him in front of a map on TV with a straight face)
Lord Buckethead came in 7th place behind former Prime Minister of the UK Theresa May in her district (as pictured here in 2017; he's the one with the black bucket for a head, she's the one in the red suit), and later came in 6th behind Boris Johnson. He is an immortal space wizard, so he's technically a citizen of every country on every planet in every timeline, in case you were worrying about his eligibility.
Santa Claus is the only candidate to have been elected to any office (the city council of North Pole, Alaska), and is a monk, reverend, and democratic socialist.
I was going to include Jeb Bush as a fourth candidate, but I was afraid everyone would pick him as a joke and the last thing we need is another Republican in office. He singlehandedly appointed his brother president in 2000, and endorsed Ted Cruz in 2016; even in a stupid tumblr poll for fun, I would never vote for him or anything he stands for.

A new CBS News poll is another to contribute to the narrative that there is something wrong with President Joe Biden's age while Donald Trump's age and mental fitness are going unquestioned.
But as a young voter and host of "iGen Politics," Victor Shi observed, the same poll shows a record 65% support for Biden among voters under 30. For voters between 30 and 44, Biden enjoys 56% support. The lowest amount of support for Biden comes from those over 65.
The official question read: "If next year's 2024 presidential election is between Joe Biden, the Democrat, and Donald Trump, the Republican, who would you vote for?"
Comparing it to Donald Trump, who had 35% for those under 30, 44% for those ages 30 to 44.
The poll also shows just how important abortion is to young voters. Nearly half of voters under 30 (47%) said that the issue of abortion makes them more likely to vote for Democrats. That compares to 27% who said the GOP stance makes them more likely, and 25% said it didn't matter.
When asked what qualities Americans want in a leader, they said tough (67%), caring (66%), no-nonsense (62%), calm (61%) and energetic (58%). When voters talk about Biden's qualities they see him as calm (63%), predictable (61%), caring (50 percent) and has him at "no-nonsense" just at 35%. By contrast Trump is viewed at 55% on "no-nonsense." That said, he didn't even register on "calm" or "caring."
As Shi assessed, "the media constantly talks about age but they fail to mention other positive things that polling shows — like that the Republican Party is weakening fast or more young voters say they will vote for Biden in 2024. These things also matter…just not to [the mainstream media]."
The toplines of the poll can be read here.

It remains wild to me that people approach poll brackets like some kind of moral imperative. "Well this character only won because they're popular/people think they're hot—" yeah, that's pretty much how voting works. "There's no possible way this character is this popular, people must be cheating—" maybe consider that your experiences and perceptions are not universal. "This character should've won on the basis of x, y, and z qualifications—" cool, make an argument and make it fucking count.
Is there any actual reason that losing a poll has meaning to you, or are you just convinced that your fave is entitled to imaginary internet points?

Kerry Eleveld at Daily Kos:
Supporters of Donald Trump who are most likely to reconsider their support if he is convicted in his Manhattan hush money trial have very Joe Biden-friendly profiles, according to a CNN poll on Americans’ views of the criminal proceedings. While three-quarters of current Trump supporters said a criminal conviction would be immaterial to them, 24% said they "might reconsider" their support. In other words, of all the voters supporting Trump in the survey, 76% were MAGA diehards, while roughly a quarter were more malleable.
So let's take a look at a profile of these squishier Trump supporters, according to the survey:
They are younger: 64% who said they might reconsider were under 50.
They are less likely to be white: 49% who said a conviction could matter were people of color, while just 17% of whites said the same.
63% said Biden legitimately won 2020.
20% said they backed Biden in 2020.
49% are independents.
50% are ideological moderates.
"These are the exact voters who propelled Trump to his very narrow lead in the polling average. Younger voters, independents, Black and Latino voters are groups Trump struggled with in 2020 but is doing better with now,” points out Dan Pfeiffer, White House communications director for the Obama administration. The 2024 presidential race is effectively even now, with the 538 aggregate giving Trump just a 1-point advantage. Both camps need to persuade more voters into their corners to cement a win, but Biden even more so given Republicans' built-in advantage in the electoral college. And a candidate always wants the pool of voters they need to woo to be predisposed to supporting them in the first place.
According to a CNN poll regarding Donald Trump's criminal charges, a conviction could cost Trump critical votes he needs to be elected again.
