Los Angeles-based pop trio Cannons, consisting of Michelle Joy (lead vocals), Ryan Clapham (guitar), and Paul Davis (bass/keyboard), released a new song “Purple Sun” on January 7, 2022.
“Fever Dream” is the first album under their new label Columbia Records and is due out this spring.
The song is taken from their upcoming third studio album “Fever Dream”, following “Bad Dream” and “Ruthless”.
It was written by Paul Davis, Michelle Joy and Ryan Clapham.
Frontwoman Michelle Joy said of the song, “We're so excited to kick off the new year with a new song from our upcoming full length album Fever Dream. 'Purple Sun' is a song that transports you into a warm lighthearted world where reality and dreamworld intertwine, sparking the desire to love and enjoy the moment fearlessly.”

Sean Combs sampled Transformation by LaBelle member (and their main songwriter) Nona Hendryx a few times - see yesterday's post for more about about tracks sampled by Puff
LaBelle split up in 1976 and Nona Hendryx embarks on a solo career but she's also writing and contributing backing vocals. Hendryx sings on Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain In The Light and 1983's Speaking In Tougues as well as touring with the band (recorded for the live album The Name Of The Band Is Talking Heads). This led to the 1981 single Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart, a cover of the The Supremes original, produced by Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison and TH's session musician Busta Jones. Then there is Material, Hendryx's performs lead vocal on the 1981 singles Bustin' Out (written with Hendryx) and It's A Holiday, in 1982 she appears on Material's sophomore album One Down. And also in 1982 Hendryx features as guest lead vocalist on the Rusty Egan, Pete Barnacle (Visage), and his brother Steve Barnacle (Night Moves) project The Cage and their cover of the T-Connection classic Do What You Wanna Do
When it came to Hendryx's second album Nona it was Material who she chose to make it with, it was a great choice and of course Bill Laswell/Material had recently made that series of hip-hop/electro 12s for Celluloid. Nona Hendryx carries on working with Bill Laswell after the Nona album

Aux armes et cætera (1979), Mauvaises nouvelles des étoiles (1981), Serge Gainsbourg
Much of the subversion and provocation of Aux armes et cætera is lost on the likes of me, being neither French nor from the 1970s nor, er, spiritually either of those things. Still, I am left with agile and very good reggae from a stacked line-up beneath a mumbling, sarky Gainsbourg. What more could you want?
Serge’s other major reggae work, however, I certainly could want more from. Mauvaises nouvelles des étoiles undeniably lacks the quality and/or consistency of its predecessor, as well as its catchiness and mobility. The farting track is still very funny, though.

C41. Okay this is from 1982 but I've only recently bought it and tonight the worm moon should be at its peak, but it is 1982, from Sandie Shaws 82 album Choose Life
You feel cheated? so do I. When I was a kid I loved The Smiths. In 1984 Sandie Shaw recorded with the smiths and the band helped promote her. I remember seeing a feature framed as if Morrissey had plucker her from obscurity. It told the tale of a 1960s star whose name had once been spelled out in Golden Lights, with the passing of time she was now a suburban house wife doing things like the ironing, because who else is going to to do it, but Morrissey still remembers her and loves her
In reality Sandie Shaw was married to fashion designer Jeff Banks until 1978. In 1982 she remarried the co-founder of the Virgin Group and chairman of the European Film Academy, so not a suburban housewife by any stretch of the imagination
In 1983 Sandie Shaw is 36, Same age as Lady Gaga and 4-years younger than Nicki Minaj is now, 7-years younger than P!nk
